Speaker 1 (00:03):
Your tune's about drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good evening, Stealer Nation. How we doing? Yeah? Us two
our number two here on the drive on your twenty
four to seven home of the Black and Gold West Shooler.
Matt Williamson with you on a jam packed Monday, jam
packed week twelve around the National Football League. Matt, what
do you say?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
We?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Uh? You want to kind of the run the gambit
here and and talk about some of these other games around.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, there's some new round. His coordinators getting let gos.
You know, should Or Sanders is named the starter. McCarthy's
got a concussion. I don't think he's gonna be playing
this week. I mean a lot happening on this Monday
when a lot of these rough teams are in a
lot worse shape than Steelers.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Also, I don't know if you saw the news that
the Bengals are anticipating Joe Burrow playing on Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I did see that, which is kind of exciting, and
that gives him a better chance to beat the Ravens.
You guys are everyone's rooting for the Bengals here now
Higgins suffered a pretty nasty immediately ruled out concussion that
I would be. There's no way he's playing through right, right,
but chased maybe chasing a little wound up after getting
uh it's true, suspended.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Last week to for a week, and he gets his
boy back at quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Ravens don't look the same. They really struggled with the Jets,
Like I'm trying to like instill hope that it shouldn't
be there. They're playing better than Steelers, don't get me wrong,
but they're not this powerhouse I thought they were going
to be. Including how Lamar.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I was gonna say, he's going on with that knee,
and hey, maybe that'll end up being the difference down
the stretch. Yeah, we'll obviously wait and see.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
But yeah, but since he could win that game.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Since he certainly certainly could, that's the night game.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
I think that's a last one.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, there's actually a pretty good slate of games on Thursday,
and there's a game Friday, and there's a game the
Black Friday Game as well too. Baby. Yeah, so let's
let's run the gambit here and then we'll get into
some some more of the specific news stories and and
things that have leaked out since, you know, the last
twenty four hours or so. Here Patriots get it done.

(02:23):
Speaking of the Bengals twenty six to twenty ten and two,
the New England Patriots, Matt have not lost since. I mean,
you talked about how that Seattle game feels or Jets
game feels forever ago, so does that win in Foxborough.
But the Patriots keep humming. They are undefeated, a perfect
six and zero on the road, probably a little tighter

(02:43):
than they wanted, but they going to Cincinnati and get
a win.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, and hey, any ready road win, you know, is
not an easy accomplishment in this league. But I bet
they're not thrilled with how they played there. They lost
their left tackle, you know which, their first round pick
for an extended stretch. It might it might be the year,
might be, you know, playoffs, who knows, but for a

(03:06):
while now, and they really don't have depth to deal
with that. He's been okay, the kid out of LSU,
I mean early pick at Campbell and frankly, they didn't
move the ball against another very great Bengals defense like
you to expect, you know. So they won, and I'm
not saying they're coming back to Earth or anything like that.
But and the Bengals d was a little bit better,

(03:27):
to their credit, but it wasn't a resounding win for
the Patriots. You know, it's just I'm just trying to
figure out the AFC packing. Yeah, it's really hard right now.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
It's very bizarre. I mean, they have the best record
at ten and two. They've got what two and a
half game lead over Buffalo, three game lead over Buffalo.
That's impressive at this point for them. You know, the
Colts could have moved to nine and two and been
right on their heels, but they obviously followed the Chiefs.
We'll get to that in a minute. I mean, you
have the playoffs started today, the Patriots would have a

(03:55):
first round by the number one, okay, which is uh Broncos.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Denver did a week ago, but Denver.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Was off they were off this week. So so so
technically New England's ten and two, the Broncos are nine
and two. They're just a half game had because New
England hasn't had their boy, I think you are it
might be this week or.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Now it might be this week. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Uh. In one of the crazier games of the weekend,
Matt in overtime. Another one that we didn't see coming.
I think everybody thought the Lions would beat the Giants,
but that it wouldn't be this tight, wouldn't take overtime.
Jamis Winston caught a touchdown pass the Giants. Crazy crazy play. Yeah,
really athletic catch and run from from He looked.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Like a football player, right, not like a you know,
old quarterback.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
The Lions, though, was scary for them for a little bit,
but they moved to seven and four with a thirty
four to twenty seven overtime win against the g Men.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah, and really, the story here is Jamior Gibbs just
went indigious. I mean he's playing at a really, really
high level. I said last week I was talking our
buddy Justin. I mean, he's like, it's Jamier Gibbs, the
bes running back in the league.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Did you say Wes just had him number two on
his list last week?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
I didn't, But I said last week, even before this game,
I think he's the best player with the ball in
his hands in the league. I mean, I don't know
if he's a better.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
He's the last person I would want to see. He's
the last running back I would want to see in space.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Absolutely, and they do a really good job of getting
him in space. Oh but he Yeah, and since Campbell's
taken over as head coach, they're getting him the ball
even more and advantageous waves. But they did have a scare.
The Giants are playing tough. They are so I just
heard this number when I was driving here, so it's

(05:36):
far from exact, but almost all their rushing productive production
came when Deshall Lawrence was off the field. Like when
Deshell Lawrence was on the field, they ran for like
sixty yards average, like three point eight yards to carry,
and then every step he was out, it was like
they had like two and twenty yards rushing or something.
It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
He's one of the more underrated players of the last
five year. Not so great, the team is so bad.
Packers get it done. They roll at home against the Vikings.
They moved to seven to three and one to stay
on the heels of the Bears and yeah, and you know,
half game ahead of the Lions. Maybe finally that first

(06:16):
first time in a long time, like a comfortable, convincing
win from the Packers that we've been waiting to see.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, I think that's kind of what we've been waiting
to see and kind of expected. I mean, I think
that they've they played like a good team, like a
true contender. Minnesota's got a lot of problems, and it
starts with quarterback.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
It does, Yeah, it sure does. Is Yeah JJ McCarthy concussion.
Who knows that might have just been justin Jefferson smacking
him on the back of the head when they got
on the Yeah. But yeah, the Vikings, they have issues
on offense, and they are many. They are as I
think you probably for a couple of weeks now could
stick a fork in them. But that is definitely the
final blow there for Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Just such a disappointing season after all the wins last year.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
I completely agree, and you know, in particular, what felt like, Okay, yeah,
you lose Sam Darnold, but if you could just kind
of maintain B plus quarterback play, you'll be fine. You
got enough on offense. But that has not been the
case for Minnesota at all. Matt, what we predicted what
happened in Music City is what happened in Music City.
Seahawks comfortably in the lead pretty much the whole way.

(07:19):
Tennessee did give him a little bit of a scare
at the end, but the Titans score to cover, but
Seattle wins starting to twenty four.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, and the Titans had a return for a touchdown
which kind of inflated things a little bit. But cam
Ward played really well, Yes he did. Like so some
of these downshrot and teams, we'll get to a few
of them. Raiders come to mind, you know, with their
loss of the rounds, I mean, at least they don't have.
At least they got a quarterback to be excited about.
And I think Ward is ups and down. It'sn'ting me wrong,

(07:49):
but he's a pretty exciting guy.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Did you see this kind of mean thing between some
Falcons and Titans. It was going viral over Twitter yesterday,
so some Falcons fan, uh last week I think it was, yeah,
heading into some Falcons fan heading into this week, like
tweeted out three and seven and no first round pick. Okay,

(08:14):
and it was like a like an animation of like
someone jumping off a building. Yeah, ok yeah, yeah, so
Titans is some some Titans account like reposted that it
was like one in ten and have our franchise quarterback.
It was like two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, like they may have the first pick
in the draft. Just entertaining offers and you.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Don't have to like jump it. You can entertain offers. Yeah,
you don't have to be like concerned of are we
going to pick the right quarterback, who's the right one,
who's the You go take the best tackle if you want,
the best edgeresher if you want. You could trade that
pick and get a haul.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
That's what I was thing. They might get the best
defensive player in the draft and the best receiver in
the draft, you know, right, seriously, Okay, if you trade
down and play your card.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Maybe a Day two pick for the future.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Right, right, So at least there's that, you know, despite.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
It is funny to say, but yeah, despite being one
in ten, I think you could see things going in
the right direction next year for the Titans. They gotta
have a good offseason, They got to hire the right
head come but it happens. But cam Ward seems like
a big piece of that puzzle. Massive and and you
gotta be at least encouraged about that if you're in Nashville.

(09:19):
Speaking of massive Matt for the Chiefs man, they needed
a huge fourth quarter to force overtime they get it
done six and five, staying alive as they beat the
Colts at home in overtime twenty three to twenty.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Colts looked like they had them where they wanted them.
I mean, there's two games to come behind like. It
looked like the Eagles had that game and control. Looked
like the Colts had that game and control and until
they didn't, until they didn't. Racey Rice is making big plays.
But to me, that was all about Mahomes. I mean
it's like, oh, I remember when he used to just
like takeover playoff games and being unstoppable Thanos Force.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yes, right, Yeah, that was much needed for him, much needed.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
For cam as a city, and they're very much alive.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Matt three hundred and fifty two yards passing for Mahomes. Wow,
I mean didn't have a touchdown pass, but still.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
He was not taking no for an answer.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
He was not taking no for an answer, that's for sure.
As again, the Chiefs still work to be done, but
they're staying alive. They're hanging around back above five hundred
at six and five with that important overtime win against
the Colts. Ravens. We touched on this a little bit.
Matt but they have won their fifth straight game twenty
three to ten. Maybe was a little bit closer than

(10:32):
that final score indicates against the Jets, Matt, They're a
tough one to pin down Baltimore because now they keep winning.
They're not overly impressive if you watch the games, but
they find a way to get it done. Lamar, I
think clearly is not one hundred, but continuing to find
ways to make some plays.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
I think Hamilton got hurt and I don't know the
extent of it left the game.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Miss that.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, yeah, I need to double check on that one.
Jets did a couple like. I don't want to put
the Jets in the same conversation as the Titans though,
either because they don't have their quarterback, but they got
a million first round picks. It looks like Metchi and
Mitchell could be okay with like Quentin Wilson, Quentin will
what's face the other receiver Wilson who's been bagged up? Yeah,

(11:17):
Garrett Wilson Wilson. They have an O line. They're so
far away, but they hung around with a good team.
I don't think the Ravens are a great team this year.
I think I overrated them in the preseason.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I think everybody, even if you were the biggest Ravens hater,
you probably still had them winning eleven or twelve games. Yeah, Matt,
I've been guilty of this. But the idea like the
Ravens have made it through the toughest part of their schedule,
there's no denying that. But they still do have to
play the Bengals twice, which is a much different task

(11:49):
with Joe Burrow. All respect the Flacco and how well
he played at times, it's a different task with Joe Burrow.
They got to play the Steelers twice, which, hey.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
I mean, they're not gonna go four to zero in
those games.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
I'm not saying it's the classic days of the Steelers
in Baltimore. Two dogs, one bone, and one of these
teams is probably gonna go to the AFC Championship Game
or the Super Bowl, and the other one is gonna
be mad all off season that they couldn't best their rival.
But they have to play the Bengals twice. They have
to play the Steelers twice in division games. Weird things happen.
Good good quarterback for Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Maybe La Marget's healthy tomorrow, whatever, But and then they
start rolling, but right now they're just struggling to get by.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
They also have to play New England at home, do
they Which is gonna be important for the Patriots. I
mean it's it's not. Yeah, the Patriots are gonna be
resting guys or anything. They're gonna be holding off Buffalo.
They're gonna be working for the first seed. They still
got to play the Patriots. They still have to go
to Lambeau.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Oh wow, I didn't realize that Lamba trip.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
So I think both where I'm going with this is
Steelers in Baltimore, both with tough schedules down the stretch.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah, and a lot of unwritten story for both teams.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
No doubt. And hey, I certainly think on this Monday
they're feeling better in Baltimore than we are here in
western Pennsylvania. Yes, well, he should be to week to
week league. A lot can change in that. As much
as hey, I was willing to kind of play the
bad cop, the sad cop, the like I'm not gonna
lie to everybody my glass was half empty this morning,

(13:12):
you know, but by seven days from now, or heck,
even Friday morning, depending on what happens in that Baltimore
game Thursday against Cincinnati, we could be singing a different tune.
Chador gets in, Shador gets the win, Matt in a
battle of teams jockeying for top five picks in the draft.
The Browns go out to Vegas and they win twenty

(13:35):
four to ten. Yes, now, the Raiders are the worst
team in the league.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
I think the Raiders are the worst team in the league.
And they fired their offense coordinator. They maybe all should
get fired.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
And Gino got sacked ten times.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
That was gonna say, like, everyone's gonna talk about Shador
and that's great. I mean, he played okay, you know,
he played decent. He looks like he'll probably start the
rest of the year, which makes all the sense in
the world. And maybe he's the answer. Maybe he convinces
him to give them a year. Who knows. But man,
that Brown's pass rush led by Miles Garrett is awesome.

(14:10):
But that looked like Bama versus Bama State. In terms
of the line versus lines.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
The Raiders offensive line is one of the worst I've
seen in a long time.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Yeah, and you can they pick up stunts and things poorly.
And like they're not well coached.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
And you combine that with Gino has not been good
this year. He's clearly like trying to do some Caleb Williams,
I'm the best athlete on the field stuff, But at
least Caleb Williams is Sometimes Gino is not Like held
three for two to eighty five and a touchdown, but
you take ten sacks and they just can't get anything

(14:47):
going in the run game now sixty yards rushing on
the day.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yeah, I know. I think they are the worst team.
They lose the Titans right now, for sure.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
I think so, which is insane because just on paper,
their roster is much better them the Titans. Yes, speaking
of news around the league, Chip Kelly getting the.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Acts today as a coordinator a couple months ago.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, eleven games in see you, buddy, I.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Mean the offensive disasters. I guess something had to be done,
but they might all be gone.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Jaggs get a much needed overtime win, move to seven
and four, stay in that wild card position. Jacksonville does
in Arizona twenty seven to twenty four over the Cardinals
thanks to an overtime field goal.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Yeah, they rushed the passer well too, and that's you know,
two wins coming back to back against the Chargers and
Cardinals after coming out of their bye. So should be
some optimism around Jacksonville. And that's one of those teams,
the Steelers we really need to Steeler fans need to
focus on. We need some losses from those guys too,
because you could definitely be fighting them for a wildcard.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yes, one. To keep an eye on the Jags ever
since that remember that that just bad game that they
coughed up down in Houston against the Tech since a
few weeks ago, and we were like, that might be
it for Jacksonville. Right, they've responded since the quietly they've
responded since things. I think Liam Cohen might be the
right be the right guy down there, Matt. A couple

(16:15):
very surprising NFC results for two different reasons. The first,
the Cowboys beat the Eagles twenty four to twenty one.
They get back to five hundred and keep their season alive. Yeah,
I mean if you look at the you know, like
the analytics, it's still only I think like a twenty
percent chance for them to make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Quite the hole.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah, but they next year they are five to five
and one. They are playing good football. They do have
a lot of foundational pieces there, but that was with
the Eagles going up twenty one. Nothing that felt like
curtains the way that the way that Eagles defense is playing,
the way that they can we know, can run the
football and put games away as good as anybody. Dallas

(16:53):
comes back scores twenty four straight unanswered to keep their
season alive.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, I think Dallas is kind of one of the
most interesting teams in the league in that they may
made all these big moves, you know, and you can
say we want about Jerry and he's an interesting character
and is a businessman obviously, but this team for years
has identified talent well you know, and I know they

(17:17):
traded away Parsons, which I did not agree with it all.
But quinnin Williams has made a massive difference. Needless to say,
George Pickens has been a nice addition. He's been frankly
one of the best receivers in the league. He has
The defense is far from one of the worst in
the league anymore. They can hang with anyone.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Else, playing like a top five quarterback in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Right, and he has all year, you know. The offense
has been great but that team, it's probably too little
too late, but they can hang with anybody.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
It in all likelihood I think is too little too late.
I did, I did too, But they're that proverbial like
I wouldn't want to play those guys right now. No,
if I was Kansas City and desperately needed a win
on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
You know, is that who they got?

Speaker 2 (17:57):
They got Kansas City on Thursday on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
That's the at Dallas.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
That's a four third game. You can't wait for.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
That, right when the trip the fans setting in from
all that turkey.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Yeah, time for a time to lounge on the couch
and watch a good game. Then they go to Detroit.
That's a tough one.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
They do the three real tough ones in a row, Philly, Casey,
Detroit out.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah. They have Minnesota, they have Washington, they have the Giants.
So I tell you what if they.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Can split they think it won on these two?

Speaker 2 (18:25):
What these next two with Kansas City and Detroit and
be six and six.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
I mean they're probably a dog at home, but short
week at home on Thanksgiving in Dallas, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
You'll take it. And then Minnesota they should beat Chargers.
Will be a tough one, but Washington they should beat Giants.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
They should beat one. Note though, this game went like
all the way to the end of overtime too, Like
they played a lot of snaps to be hosting a
Thursday game. Quick turnaround. I know it's at home, thankfully
for them. It wasn't meant to Thanksgiving joke.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
And just a physical Eagles team too, That's what Yeah, man, Dallas.
I got a feeling at the end of the year
they're going to rue that loss to Arizona at home
that they had a few weeks.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
That might be that losing that's a different from.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
This team might be the difference for them when it's
said and done, especially with that being an NFC loss.
Dallas is a really interesting They're very they are a
They're almost like must watch TV the rest of the
season at this point, Matt, the Falcons take care of business.
Kirk Cousins gets a win in New Orleans against the
Saints twenty four to ten.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah. I don't have much on this one. I mean,
it was going on during the Steeler game and it
was probably the least exciting game of the of the day.
It's a big rivalry. I don't I'd have to look
more into it. I don't have much to really comment
on that one.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
That's about it. That's it's about it. Give give a
shout out to my WU guy, David Sills. Been in
the been on practice squads in the NFL for seven years.
Yeah yeah, god activated scored his first touchdown. That's called
determination children, seven years of practice squads, hanging on baby catches,
his first touch down there in a Superdome. And then

(20:02):
Matt I mentioned I think two really surprising NFC games
with how they played out, the first being that Eagles
Cowboys won, the second being Rams and Bucks. Just because
I did not see the butt whooping that the that
the Rams put on the Buccaneers last night. That one,
it took.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
The points in that game. Thinking the Bucks would stick around.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
I think we both did. That one to me was
like it.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Was over in five seconds. They're the best team in
the league and them night. Now, I don't think it's
particularly close.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Throughout that whole second quarter, I kept telling myself, I'm
not going to go to bed. You know this is
the Bucks will get back into this one, will make
it interesting. It's like I'm going to bed.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
I mean, Stafford Nakua Adams is ridiculous. They really don't
have any weaknesses right now. Defense is playing great. Stafford's
the MVP. I mean, Bucks, Bucks probably still win the division,
although Carolina wins the night they should be working, which
was weird, but right they're so beat up though. Baker's
banged up and they've had a lot of injuries in Tampa.

(21:01):
I kind of feel for that organization.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
If Carolina wins tonight, which is a tall task there
is in San fran and a Niners team that needs
a win to kind of keep pace in that division,
in that playoff outlook in the NFC as well. The
Panthers would be half a game out of the Bucks
if they wont tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Though I know it's crazy, it's nuts, it's.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
Crazy, but San Francisco's seven and a half point favorites.
We might as well since we're just talking about it here,
you taken the points or you lay. I might lay
them with San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
I think I won Carolina in the points, yeah, just
because they run the ball well and San Franz d
is pretty it's over seven, right, seven and a half,
seven and a half, Yeah, to me, that's a lot.
That is a lot I like san Franzo right now.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Yeah, I mean, hey, I keep waiting for the Panthers
to turn into a pumpkin, and to their credit, that
doesn't happen yet.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
This season they have a coach to the smarts. Yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Smart play there was speaking of which.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Those two coincidental. Those were both Bucks offensive coordinators that
took head jobs. And they look like they're doing a
really good job. And I and.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Both the Bucks and the Lions struggling a little bit
compared to where people thought they would be this year
after losing. Yeah, four between them, very talented Corda.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
We say Todd Bowles did a great job in company,
did a great job hiring offense coordinator. And then another
one this third one though I don't know, I only
got three in a row. Right. It's tough. Yeah, yeah,
that's that's a tough chore.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
It's it's it's very tough. It is. Hey, It's one thing,
like if you're winning a Super Bowl and you're losing
your coordinators, you're like, okay, we get it. It's another one.
You feel like you're getting closer, and yeah, that's that's
tough to overcome. It certainly is more around the league,
more on the Steelers, maybe some of your tweets as
well too, before we get up out of here. Wes Shooler,
Matt Williamson, It's the Drive on Steelers Nation Radio on

(22:43):
the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Your tunes about Drive on your twenty four to seven
home of the Black and Goal, Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
A few more teas to cross and eyes to dot
around the National Football League, Matt. Dylan Gabriel cleared, but
Shudor Sanders will stay as Brown as QB one. I
this is the right, right for Cleveland, right.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
It's it's I think it's kind of the plan all
along was Dylan Gabriel has picked first. Let's see what
he can do. Unless he blows your doors off. Let's
at least you have to see both throughout the course
of the year, especially their draft resources. So I don't
give the Browns a ton of compliments, but I actually
kind of think they've handled this pretty well, you know,
and getting Flacco out of the equation kind of made

(23:48):
it easier to you.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Know, completely agree. And I mean Kenny Pickett as well too,
like we need.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
To at least evaluate we forget it.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
At one point we were all talking about they've got
on the froster or in the organization. They've got Flacco, Pickett, Watson. Yeah,
and then they drafted.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
To like Watson actually went on this road trips, the
first road trip he's been on.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I didn't see that.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
They just wanted to go to Vegas.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Hey, worst place is to spend a week. Especially in November,
Matt we We mentioned Chip Kelly fired as the OFFENSI
according to the Raiders. Shane Bowen also dismissed as defensive
coordinator of the New York Giants.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
The Giants have fired a head coach and a defensive coordinator. Now,
I think they actually have good talent on defense, especially
the front line.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
I was just going to say that the front is
one of the more talented units in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
And it's a pretty darn bad defense. It's not a
horrible job though for the next group. You know, same
with Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
And I mean again, it's the Jackson Dark thing. How
much you like him, but they're going to hire a
coach who likes him, of course, of course, or at least.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
I mean, I wouldn't be blown away if he gets
a crack Lane Kiffin. He's been linked right can I can?

Speaker 2 (25:02):
I can? I just tell you guys this. I've got sources.
I've got a little birdies at L s U and
Florida that are both convinced that they're getting Lane Kiffin.
Like in a few days, he's going to coach the
Egg Bowl, which is their big rivalry against Mississippi State
on Friday, and then it's going to be announced where
he's going next.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
They're not playoff? Would they might take the playoff?

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Which would throw a real wrench into the thing. I mean,
they're ranked like sixth right now, I think, so, you
know they're they're not gonna play for an SEC championship.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Game, but they still could be alive after.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Oh absolutely, I mean there could be five or six
SEC teams that go to the playoff. Well maybe we'll
a little bit on Wednesday. But it is funny L
s U and Florida both now are convinced that they're
getting Lane Kiffin. And uh, I'm sure that will end
out well and respectful as everybody. Maybe he will, And
wouldn't that be funny he just ends up in New
York regardless. Matt JJ McCarthy in concussion protocol? Could this

(26:05):
be it for him? In Minnesota. I mean, listen, it's
been historically bad. Really, like we were let his his
for guys who qualify that have played so many snaps
his EPA. Out of eight hundred and fifty some eligible
quarterbacks in the twenty first century, it's like last, dead last,
except for JaMarcus Russell, the most notorious draft bust of

(26:27):
all time. Yes, I will say though, like he's only
started what like eight or nine games in the NFL,
and he's still pretty small. But man, it does not
look good.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
I don't know what will happen the rest of the year.
I'm sure he won't play this week. Maybe this concussion
is very convenient. I mean he saved him from himself
in a way. I mean I thought they could have
brought him back quicker than they did the last injury.
I feel like they have other great options this year,
but there are season a shot. I would bet everything
I have that it's McCarthy and Kyler Murty.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Oh yeah, something another first round pick.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
I bet it's a veteran, a reclamation project, or somebody
that's had some success, you know, something like that.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Next year interesting and that crop of those type of
Kyler Murray quarterbacks doesn't seem to.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
Be now, I'm not even sure who they are.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Like, you wouldn't put Kirk Cousins in that group anymore,
You wouldn't pt Gino Smith in that group anymore.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
Daniel Jones isn't going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Jones.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
The only thing I can think of.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
R Kyler and Flacco is so old now that like.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Right, maybe Mac Jones you could trade for Mac Jones. Yeah, yeah,
he's one name. I think he'll be a starter somewhere.
I don't know if Tua moves now, but I thought
maybe Tua or Kyler, but I think Kyler would be
on the move Matt.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
We mentioned one of them. But a couple of significant
left tackle injuries, the Patriots lose Campbell, although they are
quote optimistic he will return this season. Cowboys, this one
could loom large for Thursday. On a short week, Geyiton
has been described as out against the Kansas City's Chiefs.
On that short week.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
He's been moderately successful. You know, he's from the Fulton
who tackle class. It was reloaded. I would have went
earlier than that. If it wasn't a loaded class, they
could probably live with it, except that that's a nasty
group of pass rushers they're playing against?

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Boy, is it ever?

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Oh no, they just played the Eagles. I was Chiefs.
Aren't that crazy? They're playing Kansas City coming up? Yes, yeah, okay,
I was. I was thinking that the Eagles is when
I was Cowboy.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Yeah, I know, Cowboys and Chiefs on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Yeah. They don't have a great group of rushers, they
do not, but it's a good it's a good team.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
It's a good Yeah, that's that's true. Although I wonder
if that's one of those where kind of Chris Jones
is like, oh, maybe line up over there if.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
He's uh, I'm sure he'll do some of that.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
If he's if he's not uh not returning to to
action on this on this short week. But yeah, I
mean there are a lot of injuries across the NFL.
I mean a lot for the Steelers, Matt you know too.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
We haven't even touched on it, like, but that's more
of a Tuesday conversation for us.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
But we'll get more into it obviously when we hear
with Mike tom on us to say tomorrow. But Roger
Jones exits and ends up on street clothes. Not a
great on the sideline and street close. Not a great sign.
Joey Porter Junior exits and ends up on the sideline
and street clothes, not a great sign.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
We did get our answer to Pierre versus Slay, though
it was Pierre pretty bad. Slay just came in when
as a replacement for ford Er. Basically it was I
think that's how it went. I mean, just watching on, Yeah,
it absolutely did.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
I don't think we even saw Sleay.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I'm not sure the injury.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
Until the enjury, I think he was just stay backup.
And so that was one of those hey, you know,
we'll wait and see what they say. You know, what
they said was one thing, but what's late, wait and
see how they deploy them, And it was it was
very clearly Pierre. I think we saw some of that.
We were talking about that a couple of weeks ago,
with the usage of Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin, Like
Calvin Austin might be the one who gets introduced as

(29:58):
a starter by Larry Richard at Akroscher Stadium, not a
Memphis number nine Austin. But Roman Wilson ends up, you know,
three times a snap count or whatever it was the
other week.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
And then they went back to Austin a lot heavier passion.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
And then they went back to Austin a lot heavier
this week.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
I forgot we didn't talk about this because I did
on the other show. To me, that just screams that
they're searching. They're searching, and I don't mean that in
a good way at all. I Yeah, concur like neither's
the answer. You know, they're not.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
And when you combine the you know, the DK stuff too,
it's not a great place to be. No, we could.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
They need more from their receiver room.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
They need more from their receiver room. They need they
need more from everybody on offense in general, but especially
from those who aren't on the offensive line or running backs. Yeah,
getting better and I'm not saying they're Ammona Lisa, but
getting better and better where.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Well blows me away. I mean, like every chance he's
like better than the next time.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
You know, he's been very It's almost remember when I
think you said this sometime when we were like out
in Dublin or maybe when we came back for the
bye week, you were like, Jalen Warrens, this team's leading
wide receiver and that's not a good thing. But it's
a testament to him.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Yeah, Kenneth Gainwell is their most reliable playmaker right now.
And it's not a good thing, but it's a testament
to him.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
It's kind of like Boz is great, but I don't
want to be the MVP conversation we have all the time,
right right.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
He continues to make plays when he gets opportunities.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
Yeah, but man, really nice edition.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
And I still think Jalen Warren, especially dealing with an
ankle injury, has been has been good, has been fine
as bad.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Yeah, yeah, this isn't a Gainwell is better than Warren conversations.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Just game Well's good Aside from those offensive linemen and
those two running backs. I need more from the wide receivers.
I need more from the tight ends. I need more
from the quarterback play.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Oh a thousand percent. Now I am curious what we
get from Rogers now.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Totally.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Yeah, week off totally.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
You know, let's there's some renewed op. Like if he
would have played on Sunday and struggled again, there would
have been two camps. The first would have been, well,
he's not one hundred percent healthy, It's okay, it's fine.
He was playing through a wrist injury, and I'm sure
there was probably some truth to that, and it always is,
or it would have been. He's fallen apart, he's washed.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Russell Wilson there all the time now, blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
I'm kind of glad that we had a reset point
and now I think we'll get a clear and it's
now observation and.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
It's one performance. But I would have liked their chance
to win that game better with Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Maybe that maybe that illegal formation, illegal shift at the
end of the game doesn't happen with Rogers. Yeah, that
was That was a telling moment. And in that regard
between a good quarterback and Mason Rudolph and an all
time great and a guy like.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Yeah, I mean, it probably would have been better.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I think it definitely would have been better. That's not
even to say that Mason was terrible, but in a
in a thin margin game like that, throws an interception,
has the the the the stripsack fumble. Maybe Rogers avoids
one of those turnovers and it's one instead of two.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Frankly, I expected more from Rudolph going into the game
than what we got.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
I agree, yeah, but I don't think it was all
on him no time. I don't think the Titan the Titans.
I don't think the tight ends, pardon me, or the
wide receivers helped him out very much. Forty and slipped
there with Mason was a Titan.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Well, tight end, Titans, Titan warn.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Whatever I reached, I'm reaching too much with that one.
But yeah, I I that's against a Bill's defense too.
That is not the greatest Han't haven't covered themselves in
glory as of later throughout most of the season, but
obviously we'll have plenty of time to discuss all of
that as we roll along.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
I think that's about it in terms of our around
the League Week twelve conversation. Let's take our last break
here when we return on the other side. Some final
Steelers thoughts, some tweets to get us out of here
as well. Matt Williamson west Huler. It is the Drive
on Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Your tune is about Drive on your twenty four to
seven home of the Black and Goal Steelers Nation Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Down the home stretch, your final segment on a Monday. Matt,
you're usually better about this than I am. But before
I forget a little housekeeping for everybody. No show Thursday

deserve that with our families, but will be doing the
darn war usual programming every other day. We will have

(34:56):
Black Friday shows of course Wednesday show. So if you're
traveling around, be safe, yes, be responsible, and you know,
make sure you're tune in. You're you're spreading the propagada.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Just take after they pass out, after all the trip
to Fan.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
All that, all that SPIKEE punch. You know, your your
nieces and nephews, your cousins, your aunts and uncles. Just
grab their phone, you know, subscribe to the Drive and
and and make their holiday season even brighter. Matt some
tweets to get us on up out of here on
this Monday, angry bike Lane tweets us. I can imagine
he's angry. Is there any excuse for the Steelers ignoring

(36:02):
the middle of the field, particularly considering all of the
injuries to the Bears. Ain't that the million dollar question?

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Cousin, Well, let me go backwards in a minute here.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
With a thousand dollars question if I want to be.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Over there?

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Yeah, he's right. Only members as well. Subscribe on YouTube
and really watch our videos. Okay, I mean all these other.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
I'll be honest, I should have chewed out Steel Nation
a little bit by well before this. Go to YouTube
and just hit the subscribe button. I mean I never
asked people to do that stuff when any of my podcasts.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Or outlet, but especially our video too, well watch.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
It too, but yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Subscribe, So he's dude, on the YouTube and watch our
We all know, the Aaron Rodgers press conference, the sight
and sounds, It gets all the love rightfully. So yeah,
but you know, don't you want to see Matt and
I's handsome mugs here as well?

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Get on it.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, help make make get Tyler a nice Christmas bonus
and show us some video, show us some video love
as well. Uh Matt Millfield sixty four thousand dollars. Question,
is it's a massive We know that it's something quarterback coordinator.
It's been an issue for a long time now. Yeah,
but I think particularly in this game, it's it jumps

(37:10):
out when you know that they were down so many
key pieces Chicago. I'm talking about the kind of the
spine the middle of that defense.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
Yeah, And I'll be honest, it made me a little crazy.
I mean looking at it on Monday or Sunday night, going, hey,
you know your your top three linebackers are out, another
one gets injured in this game, and you got all
these tight ends in middle of the field options. Why
not attack the middlefield some? And we know really hasn't

(37:40):
matter who the coordinators or quarterbacks have been since Ben
has been at his best. That is not how this
offense is operated much now. They it's not like they
didn't challenge the linebackers at all. I mean, who do
you think's guarding Warren or gain Well in the flats
and things like that too. I mean it doesn't all

(38:01):
have to be over the middle. I without question. Would
have liked to see much much more of it. I
also will say, let's not forget that this is the
best takeaway team in the league, and takeaways happen in
the middle of the field. Now, it's still makes me
crazy that they didn't do.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Some that's kind of living in your fears.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
In some way. Yeah, I'm sure its.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Game big hit, big game small.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah. Yeah, yes, I'm sure. It was stressed to no
end all week in prep for this. This team takes
the ball away. This team takes the ball. That's our
path to losing.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
That's our path as that should have been one of
the first things on the grease board.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
It's number one, and whoever the Bears play next week,
it should be number one on their list too. And
then we're going to a backup quarterback. It's one we trust,
but it's a backup quarterback, so maybe we reel it
in even more.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Just trying to spell it'd be easier to stomach the
regard if it was if it felt like more of
a one off right, and again, to I don't want
to make it seem like all of a sudden harping
on this on this Monday, but it really stood out yesterday.
This trio of tight ends that we spent so much
time talking about how you can attack defenses with these guys.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
And they're on the field a lot, and they're on
the field a lot. There you traded for one one
looks like an up and coming star. I think for
Iar Moose vastly underrated by Steeler Nation. You need more
from these guys. But I would have loved to scene
sit down in zones against linebackers I've never heard of,
or stretch the scene up the middle, you know, And

(39:40):
we didn't. And I'm trying to explain it the best
I can from every angle, but I think it was lacking,
to say the least.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Joe tweets us here and says, with everything that the
NFL does to kind of fix the game and prove
the game, when will they admit they have an officiating
problem them? There's so much inconsistency drive to drive game
the game week to week. I agree with that.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
I do too, but a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
One and I don't know exactly when Joe tweeted this
or what was on his mind. It could have been
the illegal shift penalty, It could have been that change
on the punt with the penalty that they messed.

Speaker 3 (40:21):
That was very confusing from just a TV watcher soon.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
Because they went right to break, and so I get that,
and that's one of the things I can maybe maybe
I should have done this earlier. Paint a little bit
of a picture for everybody that isn't like sitting right
there in the press box.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
It was the I didn't know what the heck was
going on.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
I guess when the side judge or whoever threw the
flag relayed it to the head official, the head official
heard him wrong, and so the head official gives the
call on the broadcast right, holding on the bear is
going to put them inside their own five yard line
or at the five whatever it would have been. Hold
on Chicago time out, go to break. As soon as

(40:58):
that happens, they sure that through the flag is like
calling everybody ose and there's a quick hot like so
it was clearly, like the guy pointed out he made
a mistake right away. It wasn't some conspiracy minutes later,
like it was like right away the guy was like,
huddle back up, and they came out of the huddle
and were like, you know, apologies, like it was on
the kicking team holding on the kicking team, not on

(41:20):
the receiving team, and because of that, Chicago has elected
to rekick, and so instead of having them penned at
their five, they get the ball at what they're thirty three.
I mean it ended up being like a thirty yards.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
It was like a thirty yard different in a big
time of the game. But doesn't mean they officiated wrong.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
It was just confusing and at a poor time on
the broadcast, and it was just their signals got crossed.
It was a human air moment, but still the right
call that they wanted to call.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
The other wrinkle I would add, though, is because I
I'm glad do you explained that because us watching on TV?
That was never explained. He never really quite understood, and
was explained to me earlier too, And that makes all
sense in the world. But I've never maybe I just
missed it. Remember a holding call on a gunner. I'm

(42:12):
not sure how that happens.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
I would like to have see. This was another thing
we the way that old Soldier Field, like the oldest
stadium in the NFL, is built, we can't see the
jumbo trons, so from our broadcast booth, it was a
really cool vantage point, but the overhang of the upper deck,
we can't see the jumbo trons, so all we had
was one little, tiny monitor, which made it very difficult

(42:36):
to see replays and see stuff like That's me sure
if it.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Was shown on TV.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
Or you know, maybe we'll have some more on this
on the Tuesday rewind. But Matt, I'll tell you this.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
I mean, a gunner running down field, how they hold
you know.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Unless the play is like starting to head Yeah, confusing, confusing,
Like that's the that's the call that they wanted to make.
I'm not saying it was right or wrong, but that's
the call that they wanted to make. I will say this, Matt,
I don't I'm gonna preface this by saying, I'm about
to do the classic thing where a guy complains about
a problem but offers no solution.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
I know, like, tell me how to make the reft better.
I'm all years.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
This is a problem in every league, NFL, NBA, Major
League Baseball is a little different because it's such a
contained environment. It's slow, but anything that's as rapidly moving
as football, basketball, hockey, Yeah, college sport. College officiating in
college football and college basketball is terrible is it. These

(43:37):
athletes in the last ten to fifteen years have gotten
so much bigger, so much faster, so much stronger. These
sports have gotten so much more specialized. Yeah, the margins
between the best teams and the best players, and the
worst teams and the worst players is thinner than ever before.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
And our ability to analyze them has gotten so much
hyper focused.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
The only answer is that every referee in every sport
can review every call that they want to at any time.
But then that would drive us nuts because all these
games would take five hours.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
I don't know what.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
The solution is, but nobody seems to have it.

Speaker 2 (44:09):
Nobody seems to have it when it is the one
grain of salt. Refereeing in all sports right now is bad, the.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
One more recognized in the seventies. He didn't even notice, right.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Right, because again it's all over social media. It's it's
a million different camera angles.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
I told you my nineteen year old watch something. He's like,
what do you mean? They didn't ever replay when there
was an old replay on the NFL network, It wasn't
that like call.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
They didn't never replay.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
I didn't know they never There was a time in
NFL history where replay didn't exist, right, I mean, I'm like.

Speaker 2 (44:41):
Wow, I don't know what the solution is. But the
product on the field, on the court, on the grass,
on the ice has in terms of athleticism and speed,
gone through the roof in the last fifteen years, twenty years.

Speaker 3 (44:55):
It's increasing incrementally like the Internet, and the officiating is
not in used to with it, right right, right, It'd
be like if everyone was getting cell phones but we
still only had one Wi Fi.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
Tower, right, We're building zillions of Wi Fi towers and
it's just I don't know what the solution is. I
don't know if they need younger, more specially trained officials.
There are a lot of the same officials that have
been doing it for twenty thirty years and don't get
up and down the court of a field like they
used to.

Speaker 3 (45:20):

driver's license should be this way, yes, and running.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
From running for political office you got forties or fifties.
After that you get no more officiating, no more run
in the country.

Speaker 3 (45:33):
All right. I've also heard the arguments like they should
be full time, Like, well, maybe, but what are they
doing on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (45:39):

Speaker 2 (45:47):

that'll do it for us. Today. We actually a couple
more tweets here that I had bookmarked that I want
to get to.
