Speaker 1 (00:03):
At least is the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt
Williamson on your twenty four to seven home of the
Black and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
And we are back.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
I am Dale LOLLI he is the Matt Williamson and
well Matt at this time for a little fantasy football focus.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, we'll do this a little you know, I mean
do this for this week's games a little bit differently.
We usually on Wednesdays go through the injury reports and stuff.
Part of the injury reports this week, even if you're
not doing any fantasy stuff, is who's playing and who's not, and.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Who has something to play for and who's to sit
down And it's a hard thing to figure out.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
There's a lot of news with that. But before we
get into that. According to Yahoo Sport, fantasy sports are
one of the big hosting platforms. The five players who
are on the most championship teams. Okay that you if
you won your championship this week, these are the guys
that got you the championship.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
So these are guys that we talked about the soft
year is why make it clear because they were actually
in your lineup on champing.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
The guys who were in championship lineups.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Because ESPN used to do it. Where who are the
most ones that took you to the championship, the eleventh
round pick that ended up hitting big, you know Lamar's
rookie year, that kind of those type of ones, which
is a different conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, So in this week, it was starting from the
bottom up. If you had Adam Thielen.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
In your lineup.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Sixty eight point two to two percent of their championship
winners had Adam Thielen in their sixty nine percent of
their champions had Joe Burrow in the lineup.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Bengals were strong.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Uh, seventy point seven percent seventy point oh seven percent,
I should say, had lab McConkey in the lineup. Okay,
seventy three point one nine percent of winning lineups had
lak neighbors met in the line and six point eight
three percent had T Higgins.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Sure, including me. Yeah, three touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Three touchdowns, So if you look at it that way,
four receivers in the top five and a quarterback, yeah,
and a quarterback means a lot of people had multiple
of those guys. Oh yeah, you were, you were winning
your championship. You have T Higgins and Molak Neighbors in
your lineup. You were walking away with the championship.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
And you might have picked Feeling up off of waivers, right,
I mean, so it'd be different, and it could be
the case. It could be Chase and Jefferson where they
had the best two but he didn't know team has both, right,
you know, where some team might have had all five
of those. I mean, it's possible, possible you could have
drafted all five and picked up all five. They're not
(02:46):
super expensive on draft days.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
And mcconkee, you know, was a late draft pick, late
late ish, I should say it was certainly later than
Higgins or Neighbors. Oh yeah, you know, in fact of
that group, I mean, to your point, theling was probably
Undre didn't.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
One draft in a lot of leagues or not picked
up for a while. Yeah, right. Didn't he have injuries
early on too? Yeah? Yeah, so they probably was.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
He was coming off of one hundred catch season last year.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
But and then their offense was so bad everybody cut
off it. Yeah. Yeah, I am interested in the other
side of it too, though, Like if you drafted that
guy at his ADP, wow, I was at a home run,
you know what. I mean like these are you had
him at the right time.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
If we go back and look at just the draft
from our league and look at some of the values, yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
I always go back to Lamar's rookie year. Oh yeah,
actually it was a second second was insane, got my
home second year was yeah. Yeah, you got those guys
like after round ten, they can be any good or not.
Not sure, you know, I haven't seen a lot from
him yet, you know.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, I'm just looking here late round draft picks around sixteen.
I say, look at the that was all kickers. Yeah,
got drafted in the sixteenth round. That was okay, But
he's got lea winner, not a league winner.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
And all those guys get cut of course of the
course of the year. Bucky Irving in round fat that's
a league winner. Yeah, that's a league winner. Yeah, like
people talk about, oh, this guy could win you the league.
Drafting Bucky Irving the fifteen round.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
That pretty good league, Yeah, pretty good.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Only problem with those guys is whoever that owner was,
probably was a week or two too late to put
him in the lineup. But once you did what you
did right your team.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
On the other hand, he took Jordan Mason early yeah,
in the sixteenth, in the fifteenth round. This we did
our draft before the McCaffrey.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
News came out. Yeah, I just remind you rode him
early in the season. I thought McCaffrey is gonna be
the one. Yeah, right, but I got four or five
good weeks out of him before you get hurt. Yeah,
for a sixteenth thrownd pick.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Looking here in round fourteen, Rico dal Dell went in
round fourteen.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
That's huge. Yeah. He was big for me to get
to the finals because he was a throw and in
the most recent trade I made and he wasn't great.
I just was like, I need a run back back.
Just give me your worst running back, and that's who
we decided on. But then he took.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Off Baker Mayfield in round thirteen.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
You'll take that all day long. But that was also
the guy.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Who had Lamar Jackson, so he started Baker Mayfield once, Yeah,
but held on to him all year.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Would have traded him, I'll say, if you had traded
Lamar for neighbors, yeah, or you know or somebody like that,
you know, some star receiver running back would have been
fair value.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
That guy's not bright enough to do that. Looking here
in round twelve. Jared Goff went round twelve. Yeah, got cut.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I picked him up.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Oh yeah, you picked him up. Darnell Mooney in round twelve.
That's a nice One's a nice pick up. He's another one.
Takes a while til you start starting him and trusting him. Yeah,
but yeah, for that investment, it's great.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Let's see here, the mid rounds might even be more loaded.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Jamison Williams in round eleven.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I he solid pick. Yeah, a solid pick. Uctually after
last night, I mean he keeps stepping up more or more.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Round ten, I got Brock Bowers.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
That's that's a league winner. Yeah, that's yeah, that's right there.
That's a that's a pretty good one. Uh.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Thelm went in that round. Actually in our draft, he
didn't get held onto as mconkee Really okay, how about
that those teams? Yeah, the Mconukee team, I think he's
stuck with him all season long. Theland got cut.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, I don't think mconkey in most leagues got cut,
but thelan probably did. There was some down times early
in the season for the Panthers and feeling. Yeah, the
Bower is a perfect example. I mean he stayed healthy
the whole year. So many tight endingies back and forth,
you know, and he'll probably be tight end one next year.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Chase Brown went round nine.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
That's huge, that's a good, good Pickture then traded him.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Jerry Judy got taken him round ten, but then cut
around nine and then cut, I should.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Say, because he needed Winston to be worth it. Yeah,
I mean his whole season is the Winston stint.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Brian Thomas in round nine.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
No, now you're talking. Yeah, now you're talking. Now, we're
getting some every week starting receiver wide receiver one or
two in the ninth round.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, for a large portion of the season. Brian Robinson
in a round eight was pretty darn solid.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Again, you start him every week? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I got Jackson Smith and Jigba in round eight.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's absolutely qualifies. I think he'll be like a third
rounder next year.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Courtland Sutton went in round the eight. That's cool, it's
a solid Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Jordan Addison in round eight that was pretty good too.
Round seven. George Kittle, Yeah, long long after many of
the other tight ends have been taking a.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Knock on him. Just so many mouths to feed there,
I think. I think so it's a little bit. Yeah,
it seems dumb though, but I guess I wasn't there
all year.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
And you know, Terry McLaurin went round seven. Yeah, that's pretty.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Solid, A really good year. A little quiet lately.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
But David Montgomery went round seven, one pick before I was.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Gonna take him.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
You took Jayden Daniels in round seven.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
That was my league best pick probably, yeah, right, because
he was my first quarterback taken. I think from what I.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Remember, Tony Pollard went round seven, one pick ahead of
ty J.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Spears. Hmm. I do remember even on my running back list,
I had them like right next to each other. Yeah,
how is this going to shake out?
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And then Chris Godwin in round seven.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
It was awesome until you got hurt till he got hurt.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
And David and Joku in around seven, which once Winston
got in there, and then that round six up you're
looking at.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's more bus at that point. Yeah,
just curious who were like the first round Bus McCaffrey's the.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Biggest first McCaffrey. Bryce Hall went second.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Which is okay, but he won't be in the top
five next year.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
No, Ceedee Lamb went third.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
His stock won't fall much though.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
No, you know Tyreek Hill went fourth.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Where do you think he goes next year? Probably not
in the first.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Round, second round probably yeah, yeah, uh. But Jean Robinson
went five.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
He might be one or two next year.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Amn, Ross Saint Brown went six. His stock hasn't changed,
justin Jefferson went seven.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
To me because he had a little bit issues at
the time. Yeah, quarterback stuff. Jamar Chase went eight to
top two receivers. Jonathan Taylor went nine. I think he's
a first rounder next year, probably probably at the end. Yeah,
But like I say, Gibbs ahead of him, who we
haven't mentioned, probably.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Henry Garrett Wilson went ten. What the thing about him?
And you don't have no idea what the quarterback situation is.
Jamir Gibbs went eleven.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
He'll go up, he'll be higher than that next year.
And then Kyron Williams went twelve. Do you think he
goes right in that neighborhood? That first round is not
as busty as I thought.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
No, No, I mean the guys you kill and lamb
or actually the top part of the round was where
most of your bus were at.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I mean everyone on the planet took McCaffrey one. Yeah,
no one, No one knew the information, so that that
one's almost like an asterisk by it.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
In round two, Isaiah Pacheco was thirteen.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
I don't think we'll go in the top fifteen now
A J.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Brown went thirteen or fourteen. I should say Sae Kwon.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Barkley, he'll be top two or three. Pooka the Khua.
I think he's higher than next year than this year.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Devin Chan probably higher. You took a chance. I took
Drake London.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
I think London goes right about there. Again, it's pretty
solid year solid, Yeah, yeah, really good.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Travis at n Then when that one, that one hurt.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Then Derrick Henry went that's why tre a ten and
really hurt because at M was the next pick or
Henry was the next pick. Marvin Harrison Junior.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, yeah, yuck. Cooper Cup.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Not in the second round, yeah, DeVante Adams, you struggle.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Up and down. Yeah, it was a roller coaster.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
And then Rashad White was the last pick of the
second round.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Nobody saw Bucky Irving coming. Yeah. It wasn't as busty
in the top twenty five as I thought, but there's
a lot of change. It's also not a massive group
of injuries either. Yeah, those swings. Some years of running
backs just get wiped out by injury.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
The third round, you had Michael Pittman, Alvin Kamara, Sam
laporta first tight and uh yeah, I think so. Yeah,
Josh Jacobs, that's nice one. Mike Evans, James Cook. I
took Kryslave. I couldn't believe he was still there. Yeah,
that didn't work out so well.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
I was. I think I would have with the next
pick him I have after that. Yeah, you took Jaylen Waddle.
I would have taken a lave over Waddle. Joe Mixon.
Neither worked out really, Yeah, Mixon was worth it.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Brandon Ayuk that's an ouch. Nico Collins great, but well
you miss some time. He'll go much earlier next and
then Kenneth Walker.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Okay. I don't know next year's drafts going to be
drastically different. I mean there's obviously some guys moving up
and down. Yeah, but it's not like, boy, this is
or shattering difference from year to year.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yeah, So that's that's kind of the way it went there.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
And what was the first quarterback taking the next round? Okay,
the next round, Josh Allen and I think hurt No, actually,
Lamar went, Lamar went. I had a Allen Ands.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Yeah, Allen was picked to two picks later, and then
Hurts was at the end of that round. And not surprisingly,
none of those teams, well, the two teams that had
that took Jackson and Allen both made the semi finals
and lost to US. Yeah, with our deeper, more well
constructed units.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Allen was an odd one because there are three of
my Dynasty leagues where I was the biggest point scorer
of all but I lost that round because of course
I started Allen and nearly got like fourteen points, you know,
I mean, like I had some other guys that didn't
do great, But I was clearly the best team in
all three of those leagues and got knocked out the
same round with the number one quarterback in Dynasty. I mean,
(12:43):
that's just kind of how fantasy works. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Looking at this week's injury reports, Jake Moody will remain
the forty nine ers kicker in week eighteen. Reason to
change now, Yeah, but Rock Perdy likely to miss eight
week eighteen. Why would he play, right, He's dealing with
the elbow contusion and some nerve inflammation. Yeah, so yeah,
not playing Ezekiel Elliott released. As you mentioned, he got
(13:11):
seventy four whole carries this season.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Uh, not the best movie.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
We mentioned when we were going through the Bengals injury report.
Chase Brown a non participant. I'd be shocked if he goes. Yeah,
by the look of it, Brown wants to play. But right,
he's ten yards short of a thousand.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
I get it. That's cool. But if you if you're
a knee shot.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah, can you run ahead ten times? Straight ahead ten
times and get your thousand yards?
Speaker 2 (13:36):
And I hope they do because that's not exactly that's
not exactly what you want to do games, right.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Xavier Lagett is going to need surgery in the offseason
for his wrist, so.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
At least that's something he'll be back from recently quick.
That shouldn't stunt his career too much. Looks like the Rams,
they bring back theling he's a free agent after the year.
Probably they've all those young receivers. I would try to
if I were that, Yeah, I would would you consider them?
If you Steelers? That's what everyone's gonna What else is
out there? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, Matthew Stafford and the starters may sit in Week eighteen,
So they could either be they won the division, right,
they've clinched the division title, but they could.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Go to four. Yeah, I would see them too. At
his age, that.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Could get you a matchup with the loser of the
Detroit Minnesota game, right.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
As opposed to Packers or whoever is Washington. Yeah, I
guess that's when you go to Stafford and be like,
how you feeling, dude? You want to play or not?
How important is it to you? Yeah? At his age,
he's earned that.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
I mentioned the Jannik andckway waved by the Patriots. Uh,
the Browns play finally placed Cedric Tillman on IR That
poor guy.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
I mean, that's kind of an underreported. That's been a
concussion for like five weeks.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Yeah, that happened against the Steelers the first time.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah, that's a long time to be in concussion protocol.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Yeah, Daniel Jones could be added to the Vikings fifty
three man roster for Week eighteen.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Okay, so he's gonna be the true backup I guess, Yeah,
makes sense, that's why they picked him up.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Kendre Miller placed in concussion protocol could be Clyde Edwards
Hilaire against the leading the Saints backfield.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Makes you played a fair amount this week.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Aaron Jones, with a quad injury, expected to practice this week.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I would you push him? Yeah, you're gonna push him.
He's gonna play.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Derek Carr will have his hand reevaluated heading into Week eighteen.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, I heard that there's actually a legit chance he plays.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Chris Olave with that concussion finally expected to practice this week.
He's been out forever as well.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
I wonder if you're him, if he was going to
get one game in post concussion or go out there
and run twenty routes or whatever. Yeah, he's like, we're
they're only foundational pieces.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Jade and Daniels and these starters will play in Week eighteen.
For Washington, what do they have on the line, Just seatings, seating. Yeah,
they could win this sixth seed and face the Rams
instead of the Eagles the wild card round by moving
up a spot.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I guess it's worth it. They the Cowboys, right, Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Jaylen Waddle optimistic for Week eighteen for the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
No, they're gonna give it a shot, yeah, and try
to win it.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Bryce Young and the starters will play in Week eighteen
for the Carolina Panthers, no reason not to.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
They just keep building on what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Josh Allen, and the bill starters will start in Week eighteen,
but be taken out quickly.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
That sounds like a series. Yeah, hand it off three times,
and Mitch, you're in a put a baseball cap on.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
The Chargers are unsure if they'll play their starters in
Week eighteen, and that might depend on what happens in
the Steeler game.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yeah. They have the luxury of knowing more things.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Which is really the league doesn't like to do this.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Yeah. Yeah, and it's an almost impossible puzzle to put
together that everyone is fair footing. Yeah, but if the
Steelers are playing when the Chargers are playing, the Chargers
are playing when Steelers are playing, you have an advantage,
right being the Sunday team knowing things.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Here's the thing though, for them, Josh Palmer with the
heel expected to require an ir stint. Oh really, that's
that's bad for them. I was just thinking more along
lines to Herbert. He's had like five.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Different injuries this year, including the Liz Frank which I
bet has never healed. I would love to sit him
if I were.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah, Elijah Molden also out for the season for them.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
They're starting free safe injuries.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Yeah. Justice Hill expected back this week for the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Okay, they use him. He's the third done back.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
The Chiefs could be getting Jalen Watson back for the postseason.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
I don't know much playing time he don't have, but
he makes plays.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Nicole Hardman could return for the postseason.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Would even be active for them, right, They's a lot
of receivers all of a sudden.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Uh to at tag of I Lowe with that hip issue.
His status is uncertain for Week eighteen. That's kind of
a big deal.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
It's a huge deal. Huntley wasn't horrible.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Yeah, the Big Brown's offense was and that didn't help.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
But they might beat the Jets Withtley.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Now they were asked.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Mike McDaniels was asked if that's the same, if this
is connected to the hip issue that Tago Viloa had
in college. He said, no, this has nothing to do
with with that.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
So that's a plus. Unfortunately for that guy. Every injury
this is red flags the lore Yeah. Yeah. Uh.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Caleb Williams and the starters expected to play for the Bears.
In Week eighteam but it's a road game and don't
don't start him on the road in Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
And a new staff there too, But you want to
play the young guys. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Kate Auton status uncertain for Week eighteens, dealing with that
knee injury.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I would think you want to keep him fresh for
the wild I would think so.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah. Shaq Mason misspractice on Monday.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Starting guard who, like everyone on that line, is kind
of crumbled but needs to be good.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
They did get Juice Scrugs back though, so one out
one back Deontay Johnson practicing on Monday for the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Would you want to get him fired up in this game,
just to get him in uniform and catch a pass
or two in case you really need.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
But if your quarterback doesn't play, it doesn't do you
any good. They're gonna they're gonna rest starters.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I know, he just hasn't played in so long. Yeah,
looks you know the playbook, right, you know, do it
in a stadium as coach.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
A couple of last things here, ty J Spears dealing
with a concussion. His status up in the air for
a week eighteen, but Tony Pollard could return. He was
dealing with an illness and an ankle issue last week.
And then the Titans also will play both Mason Rudolfie.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
That was in there. I thought that was interesting. It
was both the guys audition a little bit and we'll
see what happened.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
See what's when we keep going in the next season.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Yeah, yeah, I mean for fantasy, I'm not real interested
in any Titan for this week. I wouldn't think. But
now it's been good, really has been good, you know.
But that's weird with the quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Yeah, absolutely, But I don't say it's wrong.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
It's just an interesting approach.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Yeah, that's the fantasy football focus. Matt and are going
to take another break. When we come back. It is
power ranking day. Let's go through those and see who
we think should be up, who we think should be down.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Right after this.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
In the least, He's the Drive with Dale Lolly and
Matt Williamson on your twenty four to seven Home of
the Black and Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
And we are back.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
I am Dale Lolly, he is the Matt Williamson and
Matt it is time to dig into the well. I
guess this is the.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Final regular seas year or next week or not.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
So the final one of the regular season, I suppose,
because next week will be playoffs.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Yeah yeah, so playoffs. Let's again playoffs. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
So these are Eric at Holmes ranking Saints.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Past your Giants to be thirty two after one week
of another miserable loss and a win for the Giant.
I think they're the only two contenders. Well, Patriots are
really bad too.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
That's none of those teams are who he has two? Okay,
somebody else you're not thinking of.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
They're that bad though. I mean the Giants are running
away with it and only happen to get a win
the Tennessee Titans. I still think they would win against
all those teams more often.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
They lost to the Jaguars twice in the last three weeks.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Oh they're not good.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Man.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
The Jaguars were living down here for a long time.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
I know. Patriots have like three good players.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
The Patriots are thirty one. They're down three spots.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Okay, so they think the Saints be either one of
those teams, right, I get currently constructed? I don't know
I agree with.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
That at thirty The Cleveland Browns pretty miserable as currently constructed.
If you're going to tell me that the DTR and
there's you know they're bad.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
I'd say, is that the worst offense in the league
on New Year's Eve? Yees strong case or they can't
even operate right? Saints are pretty bad, like the Giants
are way better on offensive? Those lit yuck.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
At twenty nine, up three spots are the Giants.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
I mean there's something awful teams. A win goes a
long way. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
At twenty eight, up two spots the Jaguars, Yeah, on
the Titans and beating up on the Titans. At twenty seven,
up two spots the Raiders. They've won to a run.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Yeah, Okay. O'Connell's not terrible. Yeah, I think he could be.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
He'd be a long time backup in that league.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
I think you'll have a Minshew fitzpatrick career. Yeah, probably
play for ten teams, you know. At twenty six holding
steady the Jets, boy, they were I thought the saddest
team of all. They were garbage, Yeah, I mean miserable,
old bad, didn't want to be there.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
No, it all started with Aaron Rodgers walking doing the
walkout before the game started. As they're coming out of
the tunnel and they had this big. They don't call
them boom boxes anymore.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
They call him bump boxes. Yeah, giant.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
And they're playing Gangster's Paradise by Coolio, which is about
what thirty years.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Old, right, it was just old folks.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Yeah, yeah, I mean nothing gets you pumped up like
a thirty year old.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah. I'm not sure the rookies is into that, right,
that would.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Be like, why are you playing? Like when I was
in high school. We come out, we're coming out to
h Buddy Holly and the crickets.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Lawrence, Well, thirty years old and what are we doing here?
I don't remember this right? Every day?
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Twenty five the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
That's the first respectable team. Yeah, I don't win a lot.
They don't win a lot, but they're I'm kind of
in it, into it.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Although they weren't last week they got smoked.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
They did. Twenty four the Bears. I guess they're the
best yet, but they're pretty miserable.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
At twenty three, you finally have the Saints.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
That's wrong, Yeah, that's right. Wrong. I mean, watch the
Packer game two weeks ago. It was the worst performance
any team that all year.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Well, Darren Rizzy, this week is trying to go four
and four as the interim coach.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
I get that they have some wins in the second
half of the season. Yeah, I mean, I guess that's
the argument that was.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
When they had a quarterback right now, the car might
be back this week. We'll see, and that might make it.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Their lave mic those the weapons are terrible to Oh,
they're awful. Yeah, yeah, but without Kamara and yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
At twenty two are the Colts Welcome to the club boys.
That's they didn't move at all. Yeah, but that's where
they're at. They lost to the Giants this week with
a playoff spot on the line.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
So we always do. We just started doing that when
a team gets officially eliminated, we just do like a
whole segment on them, and today was the Colts, and
I stole your Field's idea of what I do. But
I think coaching staff is a problem. Defensive staff, it's
a real problem. And I think they're the only team
we got eliminated this week, like truly eliminated. Cardinals were
(24:55):
already eliminated. I'm pretty sure we just kind of scanned
my head real quick, and there's going when I could
come up with it's the only one.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
They're only one in the AFC. Somebody else had already
been a limit alive.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Yeah right. Uh.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
At twenty one down a spot the Cowboys, they're in
the same tier, they're both no c I mean there
now it's over. Yeah, they put up a fight for
a while. At twenty up a spot the forty nine ers. Well,
I don't know to bump the forty nine ers up
a spot in the Cowboys down a spot.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
I left them right where they were at. Niners were
good last night, though, I mean, you can make a kick.
They lost by six the two mixed kicks that and
two interceptions for the differences interception.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Yeah, don't throw interceptions and miskicks do happen you don't
have a good kicker.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah, but that was against the Lions kick not Lions defenses. Oh,
it's atrocious. I don't think they can go through the
playoffs with that. Tea No, no, no, I agree.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Nineteen is the Cardinals, fine, Eighteen the Dolphins. Dolphins better
than the Cardinals, probably probably, assuming who is in there. Yeah,
seventeen down two spots are the Falcons.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Pennix is interesting in that we all want to get
excited about him and I think there should be excitement
about him. He's only played two games. But if you
watch that game, the broadcasters never mentioned like all the
open throes he missed. There were a lot, Yeah, and
there was. You know, deep ball doesn't have a lot
(26:31):
of arc on it yet or maybe ever. You know,
like it's not like, oh we got another one, that's
the next coming.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Not a perfect situation. He's just better than Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
And the move should have been made a month ago.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Which if you're watching that game, they kept talking about.
I can't remember which game it was because I watched
a thousand games last year.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
It was against Washington.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
It was a fun Yeah, but I've watched a bunch
of different games, and somebody was talking about, you know,
all the quarterbacks that are going to be out there,
maybe this team signs Kirk Cousins. Who in their right
mind would want to sign Kirk Cousins based off of
what he put on the field this year.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Yeah, after people are like, oh, some might trade for.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Him, No way, there's no you that contract it's like
almost fully guaranteed.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
It's a ridiculous deal, right, Could he get the Wilson
deal next year? If he gets cut. He's got a
lot of.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Guaranteed money potentially if you didn't have to pay him.
That's what I mean, if you make more sense than
bringing him in and hoping he's the savior, right because
you're paying him a bunch of money, because that's not
who he is at this point.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Yeah, I'm thinking the team that drafts Should or Sanders
also has cousin he becomes the big brother mentor type
and a million a year.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Speaking of which, somebody on the message board today said,
I'm going to remember your your Should Door Sanders take.
First of all, I don't give takes. I give my opinion.
I'm not twelve, I don't work for this the state,
the station across town. These are not takes. I'm not
giving you a hot take. These are my opinions. I
don't know that Should Sanders, from what I have seen,
(28:01):
is going to be a good NFL quarterback. If his
name were Lally Orster Door Williamson, I don't know that
people will be talking about him as being the top
pick in this draft.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
I was going they my kid should Yeah right. Yeah,
I don't know enough about him, but I'm not blown away.
At the point, I'm not blown away.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
I see a lot of sideways passes accurate.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
But I think also the one thing about him that
I have noticed is because his last name isn't Lawlier Williams,
and they think he's a really good athlete and he's not.
He's more to attack of Vailoa than he is. Yeah,
Jayden and Daniel. He got a little bit of mommy's
jeans from athleticism. Apparently not all dads, because Dad was
like the best athlete I've ever heard. And again I'm
(28:40):
not saying he might be great. I have studied.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Depending where he lands, yeah, I think he's going to
be a systems quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
But for the turn of the new year, where I
always am in draft prospects, usually the top quarterback I
like a lot better than this guy.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
I would not take him number one overall. That's just
me me putting that out there on December thirty.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Fast.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
I haven't studied this. I haven't looked at all the
tape and you know, seen all that stuff. I haven't
seen any.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Very very early for draft takes.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
I like cam word better. I get that's better arm anyways.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
But anyway, so.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
At sixteen up a spot the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
I think they're the best team yet.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Yeah, and may not get in.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
May not get in successful year though, I would say,
I would say, I mean, consider it's a whole new
coaching staff, bring back Geno, add to it. You get
some lineman where you're at.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
If they don't get in, they can point directly to
losing to the Giants at home in Week five.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Oo. I mean every team has one of those give
or tape, but that's at the bottom all.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
I thought, Mike tom Lomley coach those games. You only
lose games that.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
You're supposed to win. Yeah, because underdogs never win. Yeah,
that's a bad one. The Seahawks lost the Giants at
home at home. See that as hard place to play,
as people think. Not what the Houston records.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
At fifteen up a spot the Bengals, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
That's proper. I bet a lot of people would have
them higher because the win streak. There's still an even
steven bad defense the road team.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yeah, at fourteen, down a spot the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Who's better of those two today?
Speaker 3 (30:31):
I'd still take the Texans over the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
There are more complete defense is quite good. It's much
better than Cincinnati's not not even close. And I think
Joe Mixon would run all over that Cincinnati defense because
he would be highly motivated to do so. Yeah, I
don't think the Texans offense is as broken as the
Bengals defense.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Yeah, Bengals defense is bad. Yeah, they said last week
the Bengals defense, if we're if we're putting sixty two
units out there, four units out there, it's in the
bottom four or five.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
I definitely thought so. The second the whistle blue after
the Steelers win, I think it's gotten a little better.
They've taken the ball away and they got me say,
at least they've saved their butts a little bit.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
They just they finally figured out. As I was watching
the game the other night, I'm like, oh, they finally
figured out, Hey, let's not have Mike Hilton cover somebody.
Let's have him blitz on every every play because that's
what he does better best, because he doesn't cover anybody,
not that he doesn't cover anybody, but he's not great
in coverage. But we're gonna blitz him because he's really
good at that.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
So my dad just sent us a text. Yes, said,
Mom pushed me to name you should do or in
a weak moment, I almost gave in. Glad didn't Dad,
Happy new your buddy.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
I've already told you what you should have named your
your your son, Michael should what his middle name should
have been.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
But not all this on the air for on the air.
Yeah stories uh.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
At thirteen, down two spots the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
I'm cool with that. They're hard to play against. Yeah,
they have a good defense, they can run the ball,
really good O line. At twelve holding steady the Rams.
I put the Rams over the Broncos. Yeah, quarterback.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah. At eleven, up three spots, Tampa Bay.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Baker has been really good and they can run the ball.
They can run the ball, they have an O line,
they have enough weapons. The defense isn't great, No, it's not,
but neither is the Rams. Right, and he'll scheme things up.
Those three are pretty similar to me. Yeah, in terms
of power ranking.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
At ten, down a spot, the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
I get it, but I don't agree with it.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
So who's next?
Speaker 3 (32:53):
I would still have them ahead of the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Yeah. It's funny because it wasn't malicious, believe it or not.
That after the Chargers game on Saturday, I got a
nicely worded tweet basically saying, I think the Chargers are
more buttoned up, better shape than the Steelers. And I
understand that take, and especially after watching those games on Christmas,
(33:19):
and then again it's a little recency bias, and my
answer was, I don't disagree, but look at the level
of opponents, correct, Like, I don't think the Chargers will
looked like that against.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
They're not out there, They're not out there beating the
snot out of good team.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
No, I mean they beat a horrendous team this past week.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Their wins are over the Raiders. The Panthers lost to
the Steelers twenty to ten with Justin Fields at quarterback.
Lost to the Chiefs. Bye, beat the Broncos twice. Good
for them, Yeah, that's great. Lost of the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
That's kind of their signature moment season. Denver wins over
the Broncos. Yeah, lost of the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Beat the Saints, beat the beat the Titans, beat the Bengals, Okay,
lost to the Ravens, beat the Falcons, lost to Kansas City,
got crushed by Tampa Bay. Yeah that was in Week fifteen.
That's not that long ago. That was forty to seventeen.
(34:19):
Beat the Broncos, and then they beat the Patriots, and
you're gonna move them up.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Yeah. I mean the Patriot thing is that I don't care.
It was a non competitor.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
You beat this, you beat the Patriots forty to seven,
You should beat the Patriots forty to seven. It shouldn't
be it shouldn't be a contest.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
I would have the Steelers ahead of the Chargers, but
they're in the same neighborhood today.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
At nine, he has the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
Yeah, yeah, at.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Eight the Commanders.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
That's a little rich.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
I think the Steelers are a better team than.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
The Chargers are a better team than Commanders. Yeah, little
Rich who was right behind the Steelers Tampa Bay. I
would have the Commanders every time. But yeah, I'm not
sold on Washington's defense either. No, I'm not either.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
I think it's it's a year troublesome, Yeah, troublesome. At
seven down a spot is Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
They should be falling a little bit, though. The six
ahead of them are clearly ahead of them.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
I think I think the Steelers and Packers are on
the same level.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
I do too, And it's all said and done, I'd
probably take them both ahead of Washington and the Charger. Yes. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
The only difference between the only difference to me between
the Steelers and Packers right now is that the Steelers
have a quote unquote signature win over the Ravens. The
Packers don't have one of those.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
No, No, they're they're their best in drive.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Their best win is kind of Seattle, is it?
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Yeah? I mean I know They're five losses are very
respectable losses, yeah in one of them. Yeah, you're allowed
to win one of the team. You know.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
You start looking at the Steelers and like they're five
and three against playoff teams right now, and the Packers
don't match up quite as well in that regard. Here
at six up a spot is Baltimore.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
I might have them higher, but I understand the teams
ahead of them are good.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Five down the spot is Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
I think you still have to have Philadelphia ahead of Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
They played They played them like three weeks ago, and
I would meet them hand.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Philly as if pickets a quarterback. I would rank them
as Hurts. Hurts should be back. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
At four up a spot is Minnesota, Okay, and I've
been slow on Minnesota the four fourteen and two is
fourteen and two.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
I might have all three of them ahead of Lions.
Lions defense might be the weakest unit of the top
six teams. Now. Their offense is near the top.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Yeah, it might be number one, might be number one.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
But that defense to me is concerning. Yeah, it's it's
definitely troublesome. Yeah. Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
At three, Holding Steady are the Lions.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
They've had a great year. I'm not trying to crush
the Lions, but I don't love where they're at. I
don't either.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
At two, Holding Steady is Buffalo and then Kansas City
is number one.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Okay, top six are pretty clear, and really the order
isn't clear. But the top six to me are the
best teams in the league.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Yeah, I would agree with that, Yeah, I would agree
with that. I just think that Pittsburgh and Green Bay
are seven and eight kind of on a tier that
next tier by themselves.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
I tend to agree. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
And if there were a team that I thought could
be on that tier with them, I think it might
be Tampa Bay.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
I don't know the Chargers can get there. I don't
know that Washington could get there. Could Houston start playing
like that? I've been saying that for.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Like, so I don't think I think that ship has
sailed for this season. I think they are what they are.
I said this over and.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Over after Week fourteen, I'm like, I think Houston and
Baltimore will get things right after this late by I
was half right.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
I think the scariest quote unquote wild card teams going
into this or teams in that first round who aren't
going to be necessarily the favorites our Pittsburgh, Green Bay
and Tampa. And Tampa's gonna win their division.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, but they'll probably be a dog,
probably because they probably get the Lions.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
They're gonna get Lions or Minnesota, And I would not
be surprised at all if they won.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
That game at home. Yeah, I could see that.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
I just I don't know a little.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Bit of a giant killer thing to them.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
I don't know that Denver or the Chargers, Washington, Washington.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
They're all teams that kind of OutKick their coverage. This year. Yeah,
I don't know that's the year. Even if they're one
and done building on something.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
I don't know of those go in and pull pull
on upset in the first round of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
No, I lean that way too, But I think I
don't think they walk into Baltimore or Buffalo, and.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
I think the Packers, Steelers, and Box could all win
as underdogs in the opening round.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
The Bucks will be at home. Oh the Steels are
gonna be a dog. I mean, if it's they're playing
Houston today, would they be a dog? I don't know.
I bet not even in their building. Yeah, assuming Pickens
and Porter and all those guys are playing, right, Yeah,
I think I think the Steelers are two or three
point favorites. It could be, could be. And there's people
screaming at.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
The radio right now, you guys radiots not sure. We're
just giving our opinion. These aren't hot takes.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Houston's a problem. If you studied Houston, you'd be really
frustrated with them. Yeah, because it's not like last year,
not at all.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
It's a different different team, different team. I mean, they're
in a bad spot right now.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Anyways. Their offensive coordinator is not gonna be fielding any
head coach.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Don't believe so, nor Iso.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
No. Yeah, the bloom is off those roads anyways.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
He is Matt Williamson. I am Dale Lellye, you're listening
to the Drive here on the Steelers Audio Network along
with Matt Stadt. How you doing, Yeah uh, and we're
ready to get to a break. Of course. You can
hear the Drive every Monday through Friday from four to
six pm right here on these very airwaves. We're going
to continue into the off season. Here will probably take
you all the way through free agency, five days a week.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
So it's a little good news.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Some senle flights they're ready to go, or it will
be right there in the stadium watching practices and giving
you the rundown from.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Really dig into the draft. But that's like, that's not
after the Steelers get eliminade. That's down the road. Super
Bowl's done and all that stuff too. But yeah, it
is a fun next stage of the.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Development's always fun learning about players. You're like, oh, that
guy looks ae you. We'll talk about this when we
get back. Now we're gonna take a break right now.
Of course, you can also download the Steelers mobile app.
You can also watch our show on YouTube. I'm Dale Lolli,
he's Matt Williamson. We'll be back to finish up the
show right after.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
This, and at least he's the Drive with Dale Lolly
and Matt Williamson on your twenty four to seven Home
of the Black and Gold cast in Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Welcome back. I am Dale LOLLI he is the Matt
Williamson and this is the Drive on the Steelers Audio Network.
And one of the things we were just talking about
there was the draft process and a lot of times
like I'm not a scout, I've never been a scout,
but I've covered the game for a long time sure,
and covered a lot of Steeler practices and Steeler drafts
(41:09):
and talk to people within the organization, and so you
get to an understanding of what the team values, yea
in the draft process by doing that, what they're looking for,
and as a former scout yourself, you have a better
understanding of those Well look at him flip his hips.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
And that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
I don't get into it like that, but but.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
You can always just even looking through a Steeler perspective,
like that guy's.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Offer that that guy's not going to be yeah right.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
I mean, even like step two of draft process, there's
some guys who could probably start to eliminate already once
we start to learn about you know what I mean,
Like just a hunch. I'm assuming Austin and Roman Wilson
are going to be Steelers next year. Therefore, I'm out
on five nine receivers.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Right, I don't mean like another and I don't ness
necessarily like. One of the things I was thinking he
made me think of this is I'm looking I was
looking at the top receivers over the weekend as I'm
watching football games, and I'm like, oh, this guy just
plays the slot. That guy just plays the slot. He's
he's been slot on. You got you've got slot.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Guys might love him, but we got that. Yeah right, Yeah, So.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
You're looking more for an outside, physical presence kind of guy,
and that's the you know. So I see a lot
of mock drafts that come out this time of year,
and they just put the players in an order based on, well.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
This guy's receiver obviously, just give him this five to
ten fast guy. Yeah right.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
So for example, the Missouri receiver, what Burton or Burton?
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (42:38):
Yeah, And I'm like, yeah, he's a good player, but
he's five ten. Does he necessarily fit what they want
to do in this offense?
Speaker 2 (42:45):
Again, I don't know these prospects super well, but I
think he kind of has like the Jamar Chase build.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Yea to him, he's a bigger guy and so maybe
he was a But the other example was the Ohio
State receiver whose name I can't pronounce, Bob.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Yeah, he's been a.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
Slot receiver his entire college career, right, even though he's
six one, two of five, Like, can you play him outside?
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Maybe? Maybe? I mean that was the conversation with Justin Jefferson, Right,
if he proves he could be an outside guy, show
that blah blah blah. Then if he can check that box,
then yeah, I'm interested. But he's slot only or just
a little fast guy. Got enough of them.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Yeah, those are things that you look for at the
Senior Bowl. To your point, sure that we're looking at.
Those are things you look at, you know, if you're
watching the East West Shrine practices or those Bowl.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Games, even the game tonight. I'm gonna yeah, these these
late late games. When I actually watched the whole thing,
I always pull up who are the prospects? I at
least want to be familiar with them. Yeah, Like a
real good example is like along the lines of the
steel wide receiver position is if not he's not back,
they're not the market for one hundred and ninety punds
running bay. No, you know, I mean they have a type.
(43:55):
It's gonna be two twenty plus.
Speaker 3 (43:57):
Yeah, they like bigger backs.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Yep. So all these guys on the list, yeah, I'm
gonna pay attention to him, but not as much as
the ones that are two twenty year bigger. You know.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I mean there's in the trends that you know, we
we often joke about this that you know, you're you're
looking at the stuff and that guy's a Steeler, a
raven like because he fits, he's big enough to ride,
to ride, yeah yeah, and has a certain demeanor play demeanor. Yeah,
oh that guy's That guy looks like a Bengal. You know,
you just you learn things about players that prism we.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Were watching or you know what the mentioned before that
Falcons commander's game and I'm sitting there watching Saintstril like
seroucuse that guy, you know, Like, I mean there's a
lot of dudes. Of course, you don't get every pick,
you know, like boy Brian Thomas, like receiver would have
been really nice, or a tough dude slot that can
also go outside. Yeah, that'd be really nice. To Gene.
(44:48):
You know a lot of guys we liked on draft
Day that ended up being exactly what we wanted, but
you don't get so many picks.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
I was kids that when I watched Brian Branch from
my car.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I don't remember your take on them
other than he loved them, But I do remember, and
people kind of didn't like the sound of it because
he's Joey Porter's kid. But when Day two opened and
I was asked, who would you take right now with
first overall pick and my Branch, I'm pretty happy with Porter,
but that would have been my pick of the day,
I said on the air, you know, and both would
(45:16):
be great.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Yeah, you'd be in a different place right now. But
you're right, they're both really good players.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
We liked them in the first round. Yeah, we walked
them a lot in the first round. Yeah, so I mean, like,
Porter be my next pick, but I would take Branch.
But they're both right.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
And I mean, you know, they're you know, I loved
her big. You didn't necessarily like her big as much,
but I could see why he wouldn't like her. I mean,
he does have short arms. Yeah, yeah, he also has
a very active.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Yeah, pass rusher, and that that position is a good
example too. Is I think it's become really apparent that
a trait the Steelers, absolutely Covid is get off speed,
get off speed. Yeah, absolutely, And he's as good as anyone. Yeah,
the first two steps in the ground is going to
be really quick. They're gonna be looking at ten yard
you know, splits, They're gonna be watching tape of his
(46:02):
get off. If they probably won't this year, but next
edge guy they take in the top four rounds, I'll
bet everything I have he's got a good get off.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
The other thing is motor like. I don't they don't.
I don't think they're real interested in guys who kind
of half asset out there.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
Yeah. I wonder at the D line position in particular,
you know, going back to the deg line coaches and
many decades, you better run on the ball loafers, Yeah,
you better run to the ball ninety seven is and
be cool with a loafer first round pick in know,
no way, no right, so or they're gonna whip it
out of you.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Yeah, you know, so there's some of that. Anyways, that's
gonna do it for today's show. So for my partner
