on a journey through the Houston Texans twenty twenty five offseason,
which will have another milestone tomorrow with the start of
Rookie Mini Camp. Mark VanderMeer with you along with John Harris,
and it's Thursday, that means the General. John McClain joins
us in general. Good evening. Here we go with the rookies.

A little chapter here in the build up to the
twenty twenty five campaign. What are you thinking about seeing
the rookies at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I'm fired up to see the wide receiver Higgins and Noel,
those guys being big to where they were. Texas have
got a lot of praise around the country from people
that know what they're talking about. When it comes to
scouting about getting those guys in the second third round,
they're not going to be able to try to tell
anything about aeron Ocde years. They can't hit anybody. And

Woody Marx, I'm fired up about seeing him. It'll be
as a but he is a great receiver. Was there
a better receiver out of the backfield in college football
over the last four years than Woody Marks I can't
wait to see him too.

Yeah, it's gonna be fun to see Woody.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
And I said, once Woody Marks was drafted, I thought
he was the best receiver running back in this draft.

I did Glossover Brishard Smith, who actually.

Played receiver at SMU at Miami before he became a
running back at SMU. But I'll still take Woody Marks.
There's no uh, There's no question about it.

A lot has been discussed because Nick Cassari went on
Sports Radio six'. Ten he was talking about the offensive.
Line if we were playing a game, today not that we,
are but if we were playing a game, today how
would you line up the five starting offensive?

Lineman what would you?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Do the left tackle would Be Cam. Robinson the right
TACKLE i would think would Be Blake fisher going into
his second. Year but they Signed Trent brown for a,
Reason So i'm gonna say It's Trent. Brown and the
right guard Is Jew, scruggs who played well when he
had a chance there last. Year Titus howard is the

best inside player at left, guard And i'm Guessing Jared
patterson at. Center, now that's a lot of new guys
who are on the. Bench by the time the season,
starts they may have a new, center may have a
new right. GUARD i feel strong About titus at left,
guard and we know left tackle will Be robinson because
of his one year contract in which he can earn

up to fourteen million. Dollars and they Drafted Blake fisher
and a reason for a second round last year for a,
reason and he got a little taste of, it SO
i know they would like for him to be the,
starter because you got a figure he's gonna only get.
Better Trent brown may have seen his best, days so
that's going to be a competitive. Position but right, now

say the Veterans, Robinson, brown and then the Center Jared
patterson unless somebody else comes along.

Better JOHN i used the word loaded to describe The
Houston texans defense for twenty twenty, five and they just
added another piece this week In Florunzo fanacasi coming. Back
AM i correct in saying the defense is?

LOADED i believe it is, loaded and there's gonna be
so much competition at, tackle and that's the way they like.
It of, course The Sheldon rankins played better here than
he Had foley for the, case he played better. Here
he was really good against the. Run Mario edwards has
bounced around so. MUCH i don't know if he played

better somewhere else BECAUSE i didn't watch, him but they
got a lot out of him last, year And Tim Saddle.
Junior Tim Saddle junior played better than he had In.
Buffalo so it's something about the coaching and the scheme
and what they asked of their tackles that's going to
be so much fun watching. Them injuries will play a roller,
course but say everybody's healthy when they go to the fifty, three,

boy they're gonna have some tough cuts with some guys
that'll either be trading for low picks or out and
now cutting.

Them, YEAH i could see a, trade for. SURE i
could see a trade from a couple of.

POSITIONS i think linebacker's gonna be, interesting and we'll talk

has more pressure to perform well in twenty twenty? Five
Tommy rockets Aka Tommy townsend Or Kyamie? Fairbaron who has

Five, well if you'd have thrown in the snapper that's gonna.

got all the pressure after.

weeks who they like to get? AWAY i would Say
Kyamie fairbarn because he's a. Veteran he's been here longer
than any player on the, TEAM i, believe, now is
there somebody's been here as long as Fair? Bear? No,
No so he is the senior member of the, team

obviously the division or The, Chiefs, Chargers Ravens, Rams. Seahawks
what opponent are you most excited to see The texans
take on on the road next.

Year IF i was still traveling and going on the,
ROAD i would have that. Group i'd pick my favorite
cities and there's a lot of them on, there and
at some point they have to Beat baltimore With Lamar,
jackson and this could be the year because they should
have the, best maybe the best defense The texans have ever.

Had So i'm gonna say The ravens where they're their
dreams have died in the, playoffs And i'm gonna Say
Lamar jackson because that is such an important. Game they
Wanted Arrowhead stadium When patrick mahonz threw three touchdown passes
in two thousand and, nineteen And seattle is not any
big big, DEAL i don't. Think and The rams are,

good but, yeah and The chargers gonna have revenge on
their mind for the way The texans humiliated. Them BUT
i Think Kansas city And baltimore will be the. Toughest
and give Me baltimore because at some point they're gonna
beat The ravens With Lamar, jackson and this gives, them
maybe when it comes TO M Andt Bank, stadium their

Deshaun watson had as a, rookie and all those defensive
players from The legion Of boom saying that kid played
better AGAINST us than any quarterback has and we're not
talking about. Rookies And Russell wilson authored that incredible comeback
to keep The texans from. Winning it's a bat. Time
The texans win In seattle as.

West you Have arizona coming, here the forty Nine ers coming,
Here you go to The, rams you go to The.
Seahawks do you think And i'm not gonna, say is

favorite to win that? Division can the forty Nine, ers
even though they've lost some, people can they get back
to where they? Work can The cardinals finally do? Something Under?

THINKING i believe that The rams are run away with

Well let's say they'll get two in the playoffs On
saturdays before the wild card and the divisional. Round so that's.
Two so if you count those two, PLUS i think
they'll get three primetime. Games So i'm gonna, say if
you're counting the playoffs. FIVE i look at all the,

priests the rankings that people have out and who gives them.
ALL i do BECAUSE i rate, them and The texans
are not getting a lot of love because they're being
picked to win the, division but to be the worst
or next to worst division winner To Tampa. Bay and
a lot of it is because the offensive. Line people
think they should have done, more And i'm thinking they

haven't paid. Attention they just looked at the. Draft they
saw one draft. Choice they don't realize that The minnesota
Guy ingram came into trade and the others were free.
Agents and how much better the competition's going to be
with a new line, coach new play. CALLER i Think
texan's going to run away with a. DIVISION i was

listening to a guy From jacksonville saying they expect to
win the. DIVISION i was listening To Bill polly and
talking about It, colts of, course can get back in the,
playoffs AND i think The texans is going to dominate
the division.

Again let's go. Here we were talking about THE Nfc West.

SEATTLE i think this is a forgotten team that won
ten games last.

YEAR i Know Gino smith is.

Gone they Got darnald good for, them and they Got
jail And milbroe in the, draft WHO i think is
a sneaky hot selection for, them Should darnald suffer an
injury or Maybe milroe does What Russell wilson did back
in the. Day what are you thinking Of seattle here
as a big? Threat we said we got to go
up there and see.

THEM i think this With Sam darnold coming in there
on a one year, deal he's playing for multimillions. Again
if he stays. Healthy that's a big. If because their
offensive line was. Horrible it was one of the two
worst in THE. Nfl we know who the other one,
was and SO i don't see them going. FORWARD i
could see them taking a step back unless they're able

to finish second in the. DIVISION a lot of people
are fired national people are fired up about The, cardinals
AND i don't see. IT i just don't see. It
prove it, first And i'm thinking if you're playing another,
division it's better than playing THE Nfc east or THE Nfc.

North to play in THE, NFC i, mean playing THE
Nfc west is kind of ideal to me AND i
look forward to seeing those, games and, boy those are
some great cities to go. TO i think The, texans
besides dominating their, division if they can two in that,
division that would be. Great and then maybe three and

one concerning how good this defense should.

Be, general do you think The texans get an international?
Game they have three Opportunities, London, Germany brazil For, Jaguars, Colts, chargers.
Respectively do The texans get an international game in your?

Opinion you, Know, JOHN i would think that if there's
ever a playoff season in which they're not in the
Early saturday, game that's when they get, one because it
shows you what the networks. THINK i think that considering
they they're, exciting they got a lot of stars on
both sides of the. Ball you know the fact That
i'd love to see him Play jacksonville. Overseas So i'm

gonna say, yes and and they will get one because
eventually all of them are going to play a home game,
overseas and So i'll say this is the.

Time so when they get the eighteen game schedule implement
after they tear up the deals on THE tv contracts
within a couple of, years are you thinking the eighteen
games or whatever we get maybe at least sixteen overseas
games or Off american soil type.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Games they've said that before that everybody is eventually going
to have to play a game overseas AND i AND
i think that's. Great you know the reason they're gallivanting
around the. World you, know they want to play In,
india they want to play In. China it's not just
spreading the. Brand it's. Gambling it's all about. Gambling those

countries have been gambling for centuries before we were even.
Created and it's the money that's coming, in and then
the money that will come in because you're spreading your
wings and taking over the. COUNTRY i remember when they
told me when the oilers were, here they were thinking
about playing a game In Hong, kong AND i was
telling the, league please please please put The oilers In Hong.

Kong they set the all time record In, tokyo set
the all time record In Mexico, city set the all
time record at The Sun. Bowl of course they played The,
cowboys but that's beside the. POINT i, thought still they
should be able to go To Hong. Kong so eventually
they're going to these other countries because it just raises
the value of the franchises even more, general.

The cowboys And steelers made a deal Sending George pickens To. Dallas,
Essentially steelers get a pick swap in twenty twenty seven
and they get a third. Rounder your thoughts About George
pickens going To dallas on both, Sides does this you
think have any bearing on What Aaron rodgers does with
The steelers come out to you encapsulate that entire situation

UH i do a weekly thing With Clark Judge's talk
Of fame network in which he writes a column and
sends out questions to historians And hall Of fame, Members
and he has one it'll be out today who Won
pickens or The? Steelers and WHEN i Said, pickens he text,
said you're the only. One, well my reasoning, was in
the last year of his, contract if he's on his best,

behavior no being, late no, pouting no throwing, fits and
he's got a chance to make some, money if not from,
them with somebody. Else but on the other, HAND i
saw a long list of receivers That Mike tomlin has
gotten rid, of and every one of them has done.

Antonio brown and he was, terrible left in a cloud of.
Controversy So tomlin knows what he's. Doing obviously this weakens their,
offense but they don't care because they thought he's too
much of a pain in the butt to put up with.
It and SO i think The, cowboys you, know they
run a pretty liberal ship up. There there's gonna be blow.

Ups there's no doubting that he's. Talented BUT i don't
know who else they have the playwide receiver other THAN Dk.
Metcalf and if they don't Sign, rogers they're not gonna
need receivers because they're not gonna be able to throw the.

whether he's playing or. Not everybody thinks he's got a

handshake agreement with, him and either start OF OTAs or
the veteran mini, camp he'll be in and uh and
he'll he'll play the way he's. Capable, however that is.

General what do you think happens With Kirk cousins now
that everything's starting to sort of settle throughout the? League
is it is this as simple as he's gonna be
The falcon? Backup or do you think somebody makes a
move over the next two to three weeks or whatever
it is before training Camp For Kirk, Cousins.

I'm told he's staying there because you, Know Michael pennix
look good in what a half? Year how do they
know he's not going to. Regress how do they. Know
once all these defensive coordinators had the off season to
watch him and they changed their strategy and their coordinator
And Ken pennix adjust to. That SO i think they've

paid him most of his. Money but if somebody were
to offer him something that blows him, away like say
a playoff team lost its quarterback didn't have a good back,
up then they might offer something they couldn't turn. Down
but right, now the plan is to Keep Kirk cousins
at the, backup even though he's Asked Arthur blank to
trade him so he can go somewhere, else and a

lot of people forget he was benched last. Year there's
no guarantee he's going to be real good or even
good if he does play.

Again, general we talk a lot ABOUT Afc south changes
with the various, teams and one change we haven't discussed
much is Lou An arumo becoming defensive coordinator of The.
Colts is this something that makes a big shift in
production for them on that side of the. FOOTBALL i
know it didn't go well at the end In, cincinnati but,

injuries personnel not being up to, snuff that kind of.
Thing The colts do have some assets to work with
on that side of the.

Football what are you Thinking.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
The last time they played In, rumbo they beat him
In cincinnati and Beat Joe. Burrow that was in what
year was? That two years? Ago they went up there
with a Healthy borrow and they came away with a.
Victory AND i think that that's going to happen. Here you,
know he's got some. Talent as long As Jonathan taylor is,

healthy we know they're going to run the ball, with
but we don't know who the starting quarterback is going to.
Be you'll probably be rich and they try to validate
the fact that they took him in hope that he
can stay healthy and play better than he has in
the first two. Years Daniel jones could be. Solid he's
playing for another, job not playing for. Money he's already
made a. Fortune BUT i think they're going to. Struggle

they might win eight. GAMES i Think jacksonville With Liam,
cohen that they could win seven or eight games and
The titans be lucky to win like. Five AND i
think The texans are gonna win ten or eleven and
that the division won't be, closed and Then texans will
probably Go i'm guessing five and one at, best four

and two at, worst AND i think it'll be between
them and The, colts and they'll handle The.

Colts General Shween now on the start of the, season
would you anticipate The texans making any kind of move
before the season, starts before training camp? Starts do you
anticipate them doing anything like? That or you think they've
got what they've got right now and they'll make moves
in training, camp but not until.

Then we know With Nick, cassario unless they were to
send him To, pluto between now and the star of the,
season he's gonna make. Moves i'm guessing if somebody finds
out they got depth in the offensive line and they could, afford,
hey will you give me a six or seven for this,
veteran he might do. It he's got a lot of,

veterans but there's nobody that stands. OUT i think of
all the people he's brought, In Cam robinson is the
most likely to. Start he started every, year he's been
healthy seventeen games last year For jacksonville And. Minnesota but
if there's somebody out, there he's gonna do whatever he
can to get. Them So i'm gonna say by the
time they step on the practice, field we'll have another offensive,

lineman and they time the season, starts he could have
even another. One because they all coaches they love the.

Competition, JOHN i don't know if you were aware of,
this But toro is up for The Mascot hall Of.

railings and. Stuff AND i Asked Jerry Drew, piano the
voice of The. ARROWS i, said what the hell is?

up like a. Chicken he won't be around for. Long

Going they've been very frustrating because they can't. Hit there

eleven then lose two or. Three at The White, sox
they lost four of, six and they came home and
lost two and they got big time struggles at the.

like last year when they were ten games up and

challenge for us because the girls have been quite open
