Speaker 1 (00:13):
Ho League Cow high five for the Minnesota Vikings. They
improved to five and zero into the bye week against
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets with Pete Bursig,
I'm Paul Allen. We called the games on FM one
hundred point three Kfan and the Vikings radio network. Aaron
Rodgers caught fire late. He did throw for two touchdowns,
(00:33):
but for the first time in seven years, he had
a three interception game. And speaking of the number five
high five for Andrew van Ginkel, he scored his fifth
touchdown three via pick sixes and Aaron Rodgers threw the
fifth pick six of his career. That was a massive
moment in the game. It took place way back in
the first quarter, but it aided the Vikings in the
(00:55):
twenty three seventeen win over the Jets and into the
by Hello, mister analyst, what do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Well, I know that coach O'Connell made it a point
with the team is start fast, start fast against this giant,
this Jets team. Excuse me, get out, And we did
exactly that with the pick six, got up on him
seventeen to zero. The problem was we just did we
just made too many mistakes to close and slam that
door and take him out of it. So we let
(01:22):
him hang around. We let him hang around, and we've
seen Aaron Rodgers for a very, very long time. You
let that guy hang around, he's gonna come back and
make you pay. But fortunately Stefan Gilmour comes up at
the end. Some great plays by Shaq Shack Griffin. I mean,
a lot of guys made a lot of big plays today.
Good pressure on the quarterback. The interceptions and turnovers keep
(01:44):
coming our way defensively, and that's absolutely fantastic. Being five
games into the season.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Gilmore's first interception as a member of the Minnesota Vikings,
and for the first time really in four games and change,
he saw a lot of action. He just hadn't gotten
a lot of action in the first four games. They
were going to Jack Griffin or they were going to
Buyer Murphy Junior. And Gilmour gave up some yards today,
but he came up big when it mattered most. Darnold
(02:09):
finishes fourteen to thirty one, no touchdowns, with one interception.
But the a topic for the Vikings heading into the
buy is Aaron Jones left the game in the first
half with a hip injury and did not return. Everything
changed offensively when that happened.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It really did in his ability with Aaron Jones and
just being able to move the chains, getting the longer runs,
those kinds of things. It's so important because once he
left the game, we became rather one sided and you
got handed to the Jets. I think they had a
pretty good plan, if you want to call it that,
(02:48):
of what they were going to do to our receivers,
and that's be super physical with the corners, go ahead
and take the penalties early. We're just not going to
let you guys get in any type of a rhythm.
Right and Old Justin Jefferson has six receptions for ninety
two yards, no touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Think about what you just said, helling Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
You know, and then you look from a from a
passing standpoint, you know, Darnold did not have a great game.
He was fourteen to thirty one, so he's well below
fifty and fifty point three rating. Right, So they're what
they decided to do on defense I think was the
right call. It's just we couldn't run them out of
(03:28):
what they were trying to do, and that's why the
Aaron Jones factor becomes huge. We had huge time of
possession of advantage in the first half. Everything was being
set up to be able to just say, hey, we're
just going to run this football, We're going to control
the clock, play action off of that, and you know,
making mistakes here and there, and you know that's I
think the big thing or the part that take away
(03:50):
from this is just all three phases have to play well.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Right.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
He made some big plays on offense, he made some
huge plays on defense, special teams, a couple of good
punk covers, those kinds of things, but too many mistakes
and too many spots kept the Jets hanging around. And
you can't allow an NFL team to do that because
someday it's going to come back and bite you.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Unsung hero of the game punter Ryan Wright. He had
four punts, two inside the twenty, and he was really
on his game today and they needed it badly at
a couple of times in the second half. But before
we hear from Kevin O'Connell, then Sam Darnold, Harrison Smith,
and the rookie kicker Will Riker. First to the veteran
Harry the hit man. He had a sack today, giving
(04:33):
him twenty and a half for his career. He joined
six Hall of famers like Nick Bonacannie, Larry Wilson, Charles Woodson,
Ray Lewis and so on, as one of just seven
players in the history of the NFL to have at
least thirty interceptions. He has thirty five and at least
twenty sacks. So good for the hit man on that
Will Reiker three of three on field goals, two of
(04:55):
two on extra points. Our kicker is twenty four of
twenty four kicking all kinds of kicks this year. Holy cow.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah, that that does. That deserves a while, right, and
Chris Meyer speak, it's just a matter of you know, you,
when things are not going well, you just have to
get close enough and let that kid do his thing.
And it turned out that the field goals were the
difference in this game.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Right.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
We had a hard time getting you know, getting getting
in the end zone and CJ. Hamm was the only
one that made it in the end zone. If you'd
have told me CJ Ann was going to score the
only touchdown for the Vikings today, I would have been
you know, it would have been offensive touchdown, right, offensive touchdown.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Excuse me.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
So it's crazy, but yeah, he's he's just been he's
just been on point. He's been unflappable, you know. And
I've said up before, your kicker is going to be
your leading scorer, and thank goodness we drafted him and really,
you know, addressed that position going forward.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
A couple of things here coming and clean up. Ryker
is twenty five of twenty five. He hit three today,
including one from fifty four and another from fifty three.
So you put the extra points and the field goals in.
There were five into it. And the Alabama rookie is
twenty five of twenty five. That's beautiful. CJ Ham's rushing touchdown.
(06:16):
It was his first rushing touchdown since twenty twenty. So
they had to get creative and they had to get
sneaky without Aaron Jones, but they did what it takes,
showed tenacity and fortitude and proved to be indefatigable as
they beat the New York Jets by six to improve
to five and zero. Here are the thoughts of head
coach Kevin O'Connell.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Absolutely gritty win by our team. So many things that,
so many moments in that game, so many things we
talked about going into this football game that materialized. Especially
got to give it up for our defense. Flowing those
guys we needed them today was not good enough to
our standard on offense. And moments like this are where
(06:57):
we lean into a lot of things that our organizations
built off of adversity, dealing with adversity together, no flinch,
all three sides, figuring out a way to come together
and win a football game. What I told our team
is there's gonna be days like this, and when there's
days like this, good football teams find a way to
pick each other up against you know, a future Hall
(07:18):
of Fame quarterback and you know, tough circumstances. Kind of
a sloppy day all the way around, with little spit
and rain and all those things. With a thousand excuses
out there. Our team didn't look for any of them.
They just kept playing. Will Rekert was phenomenal for us.
When we needed three, he got it, and like I said,
our defense just just lights out from a standpoint of
(07:39):
picking up our team when we needed him. We'll go
into the buy five and oh five incredibly difficult challenges
so far to start this season, including wrapping it up
with a trip that we very much look forward to
coming to London. It's been a phenomenal trip. Want to
thank everybody that took care of us at our hotel,
the NFL putting on a great trip for us, and
(08:00):
obviously all the folks with the Vikings that planned this
thing year round. There's a lot of people that their
names can't be mentioned right now, but I just wanted
to personally think all of them for helping make this
trip go. We'll go into our buy get healthy at
a couple of spots and hopefully come out with the
momentum that a five to zero team should. But tons
(08:22):
of challenges out in front of this team and I
can't wait to attack them with my guys. Just injury
updates on a couple guys. Aaron Jones did have a
right hip and not return. He'll be evaluated. I'll keep
you guys posted from a standpoint of what that looks like,
but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that hopefully will
be short term. And then Caleb Evans did have a
(08:44):
left hip flexer and did not return.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
But with that, I'll open it up to questions in
the third quarter up to scores and then up one score.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
There are a lot of deep aggressive shots that work out.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
How do you mediate being aggressive in.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Those situations where you want to kind of put the
game away versus staying in control so they don't have opportunities.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Yeah, we want to stay aggressive. I think that's one
of the things that have helped us this year as
a team. We had some opportunities. Sometimes you're not going
to hit them. Sometimes there's going to be some things
that maybe happen from an all eleven standpoint that disrupt
the ability of a play to be successful.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
There's gonna be a thousand things.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
I didn't think, particularly offensively, our execution was up to
our standard. Way too many pre snap penalties, way too
many things that we really talked about, And it starts
with me as the play caller, and I got to
make sure that I find a way to continue chasing
improvement because there were some things offensively that you just
(09:49):
can't happen in the big scheme of seventeen games over
a season. Proud of our team for how we battled,
but there was certainly some things. There are probably some
plays to be had, some players I'd love to have
back as a play caller standpoint, and then just the
effectiveness as the day went on, not to our standard,
but like I said, uh, being five and zero, our
(10:09):
offense has had a lot to do with that. But
there's gonna be some days where we've got to figure
it out and we need to do a better job
at that, and that starts with me.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Coach, you know what this is.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
I believe that's a football Brandon, former teammate of mine.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Love this guy right here.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
This is the football you threw to me before the game.
So the game ball goes the coach back. Oh man,
thank you, and.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
And luckily you remembered from our short stint with the
Dolphins together, I should say, my short stint.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
There we go. I knew that was coming, man, I
knew that was coming. But it does mean a lot
to see.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Man, you are a great teammate and uh, you know,
unbelievable football player. And I know you know many many
people besides just me think that. So I'm incredible honor
to get that from you, brother, and I really appreciate what.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
That represents for me is US athletes transitioning a lot
of mus struggle and the ones that figure out to
do it right. So your example for a lot of us,
Super proud of you.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
You got this team, Roland.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
Who would have thought you guys would be sitting here
five and oh with all the controversy or just the turnmoil, right,
So great job.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I love my team, man, I love every single player, coach,
you know, I know that we've got something good going
and the record, the results phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Hopefully people are excited about this team.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
But what it all starts with is what's in that
locker room, as you know, and the makeup of a
bunch of smart, tough guys that love football, they love
playing together, they love working together, and they're very much
looking forward to chasing improvement, which is what you need
to do in an NFL season from as you know,
from all the great teams you were on. So that's
what we're gonna do. But thank you once again, brother,
(11:55):
I really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
Man Hey, coach, on Friday, I spoke to you about
why you got to and you to find ways to win,
especially giving Okay, you're talking that rather dessumption that you're
five where you're still undefeated in the UK going into
a buy. Yeah, so what kind of message do you
now relay to your team going into.
Speaker 8 (12:12):
That by.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah, this has been. This has been.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Uh, you know, we played some really good football teams
and we and we've found a way to win five games.
We'll get a chance to rest up, recover, get home
and hopefully, uh you know, have our ability to hit
the ground running coming out of the buy. But my
message is going to be very simple. You know, not
a whole lot of folks thought, uh, this team would
certainly be where we are right now at the buye.
(12:38):
So that's an you know, that's a it's an easy
thing for me as a coach to remind our guys
of what got us here, which has just been work,
total elimination and you know, almost in ignorance to the noise,
confidence in what we are as a football team, and
and just doing the little things. And there's a lot
of little things that we're gonna have to get better at.
And like I said, it starts with me coaching staff.
(13:00):
I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to have the guys
coaching with me that I do. And I absolutely love
my players. I love this team. I love coming to
work every day.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
These guys are making it a joy to get to
do what I do. Very fortunate to do that. But
there's just something about this group that they believe in
each other. They believe we're going to find a way
to get it done and come in this locker room
and enjoy another one. But it was just about going one.
And know today it sounds incredibly cliche. I get that,
(13:29):
but when you're traveling as far as we traveled, and
there's a lot that goes into it. We've played some physical,
physical games over this first kind of five week sprint
to this buy.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
I'm very, very proud of our guys.
Speaker 9 (13:43):
Obviously, one of the Marquie matchups in this game was
justin Jefferson. Yeah, how did you manage balance in giving
the ball to one of your best players?
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (13:53):
Again, not throwing to what's one of the best products
in the league.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Direction, Yeah, I mean that was I thought those guys know,
we knew coming in the game it would be incredibly
tight coverage. You know, both Sauce and Reader two of
the best corners in the league. I know that Robert
and his staff feel that way about those guys, so
we knew there'd be some ops. But at the same time,
I thought it was a battle back and forth all
day long. There were some tight coverage where they got
(14:17):
the best of us. There were some plays where Jets
and Jordan were able to get loose, and I did think,
you know, as much of a struggle as it felt
at times there in the second half. Offensively, I was
really proud of the way we went down there and
got those three points. That really kind of there's been
some of that in this five game run here where
(14:37):
the momentum, the energy in the stadium, the adversity that's
kind of hit and Sam Darnold finding justin on that
big hit to start the drive and then Johnny Munt
later on and would have loved to finish that drive
with a touchdown, but we ensured three points and made
sure that they had to score a touchdown to beat us.
And then that's where the complementary football, I thought, special teams,
(14:58):
although we had, you know a few penalties that were
pretty critical field position wise, to battle back and get
a couple down in there inside the ten, Ryan Wright
with that, with that unit down in the football and then,
like I said, Will Reikert, So there's gonna be days
like this, That's what our game is all about. And
I'm just proud of the way our guys battle and
not one time did I feel any sort of tearing
(15:19):
it the seams with the adversity as we dealt with it.
And that's a mark of a good football team that
hopefully will chase improvement across the board. And uh, I'm
very much looking forward to doing that with my guys.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
That's a good regulation.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
And my question is for the last game and tonight,
you had an amazing up but you justin't gonna help
the upplements in the right adjustments and you had more struggles.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Yeah, just gonna help.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
So how are you going to manage it for the game?
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Yeah, that's a it's a great question because that, ultimately,
you know, was why the game was so close. I
think we won the turnover battle by one. But I
think when you look at our penalties and you look
at just you know, from a standpoint of just effectiveness
of offensive football, not a lot of you know, decent
hits in the run game kind of after you know
a little bit there, and then we did have some
(16:16):
penalties eliminate some yards and then it just felt like
we were backed up kind of against ourselves a little bit.
In the second half, had some plays that coverage kind
of dictated. Maybe you know, maybe the ball had a
chance to be completed, but either pressure or just missing
a throw here and there.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Sam's been lights out.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
My confidence level I think was on full display, no
matter what kind of day it's been to allow Sam
to push us down the field right there with some big,
big time throws at the quarterback position.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
So, like I said, starts with me. We got to
improve and try to avoid.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Even though we stayed aggressive with some calls, the execution
wasn't really really where we needed to be to try
to put that football game away when we had that.
Speaker 9 (17:00):
I talk about your confidence in christ is to push
the ball down field.
Speaker 10 (17:03):
Is ever a point where it's not working, you say
I need to back off that, try something different.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Yeah, Well, the thing was, I mean, the coverage was
pretty tight. You know, they were taken away and they
were getting up on us a little bit and kind
of taking away some of the quicker throws. So trying
to you know, live in the world where we can
maybe use that against them and get the ball down field.
You know, I thought it was incredibly competitive to two
or three really good wide receivers going against some good
coverage players and we took some shots, and what happens
(17:30):
is when those are incomplete, a lot of times you're
either falling, falling into second and long or into a
third and long, and then you're throwing a couple of
pre snat penalties and it's going to be some tough sledding.
So player two away from maybe looking differently, and that's
what the NFL.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Is all about. But we'll go back and look at
it and make sure.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You know, like I said, either there's some definite play
calls that maybe we can package differently, maybe we can
build to give our players more clarity. How how I
kind of put it together with the offensive staff. Great
time to do it over that bye week and and
kind of hit the refresh button and come back ready
to roll.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
So last one, last one to a front.
Speaker 8 (18:07):
After this defon pick, it looked like you kind of
hugged flow. What did you say that?
Speaker 3 (18:12):
I just love doing football with him, you know, as
simple as that.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
There's a reason why I've always envisioned getting to do
football Brian Flores because of his mentality as a play caller.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
How him and his staff are coaching that group.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Sometimes you know, you you you do some things as
a head coach and offensive play caller, knowing maybe we
can't take a shot here because I know, you know,
we're gonna we're gonna hit a lot of them.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Over the course of the year.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
But I also know I have ultimate trust in our
defense and and for Gilly. That's why we went and
got Gilly to put it to put a game away,
take coverage like that and makes a hell of a
catch there.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
So we're kneeling it out for win number five.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
But yeah, I just I've got so much respect for Flow.
He is leading that defense at at a world class level,
excuse me, and really impacting our organization with how we
play and how we win. And just you know, that
was what that moment was. You always won for the moments, man.
I love thanks, love it.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Next Congress, Thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
All right, thanks coach Sam Darnald coming up here shortly now.
Donald got hit one time and left the game. Nick
Mullins came in and went one and won for like
twenty nine yards. That was cold blooded. But do you
think there has to be more to it than losing
Aaron Jones with Darnal because he you know, like on
that interception to Brandon Eccles who never plays, but Sauce
(19:39):
Gardner left for like a quarter quarter and a half.
Eccles had an interception, and and Sam was overshooting some
receivers or undershooting them at times. But Sam got hot
when it mattered most specifically to like Jefferson and tighten
Johnny Munch.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
And I know, I think you got to give some
credit to DJ Reid and Sauce guard because they did
a very very good job.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah, they got a lot of penalties called on them,
but they did a pretty good job of tying up
our wide receivers. And I think that there was a
trickle down or trickle up effect to our quarterback. Again,
the completion percentage way down, you know. And and and
he just didn't have, you know, talk about a gay argee.
This is a game you wish he had TJ. Hockinson,
that guy in the middle of the field, right, someone
(20:25):
that you could just you know, get the ball to.
He's going to find a way to get open against
any linebacker in the league or a safety. It would
have been, I think been a big plus. He didn't
have that go to guy. But again, it I don't
think it's necessarily because there was no Aaron Jones. I
think it's it's a combination Platner DJ reading Sauce Cartner
being the best duo, you know, defensively a corner we've
(20:47):
seen and losing Aaron Jones and the adjustments that had
to be made from there, I think are responsible for
our quarterback just not being You got to give him credit.
He threw the interception over the middle of the field
and then came back on the next series and delivered
a couple one one big pass to JJ, So you know,
he stepped back up and he you know, didn't shy
(21:09):
away from it. He just continued to do what the
offense called for and and and got that done. So
regardless of a bad you know, not necessarily a big
stats day, you know, for Donald, I think he improved
and and showed what he could do and hung in there.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Sam Donald led the Minnesota Vikings offensively with some cold
blooded connections when they needed them badly at the end
of the game, and the Vikings beat the New York
Jets by six. Here's our quarterback, Sam Donald.
Speaker 11 (21:36):
No after after yeah, uh yeah, just real quick, I think, uh,
you know, obviously it wins a win, you know, I
think our defense, our special teams played out of their
minds today.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
And I think as an offense, you know, I think
we just got to find a way to continue to
play consistent football and you know, the pre snap penalties,
the communication just.
Speaker 8 (22:01):
Has to continue to get better.
Speaker 10 (22:02):
But you know, as a whole, as a as a whole,
I feel like we're able to make plays when we
needed to, but we just gotta continue to get better
that way.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
I really do want to love it. And the reason why, brother,
is I'm so freaking proud of you.
Speaker 6 (22:18):
So freaking probably twenty eighteen drafted third overall to one
of my teams, your.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Team's and Jets. Three years later, you're traded for.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
A couple of picks right, right, and for you to
be in this position five, to know, leading your team
even coming into the press conference that way, right, that's
true leadership. That's Peyton Mannings, that's Tom Brady as right,
and now you're a candidate for.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
The you know, to be an MVP. So I just
want to say I'm proud of you.
Speaker 8 (22:50):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Yeah, how do you feel?
Speaker 8 (22:53):
Yeah? I think you know, I feel good.
Speaker 10 (22:56):
Obviously, you know, we got things rolling, but like I said, Man,
I mean there's so much room for improvement. You know,
for us to be able to go out there against
a really good team and get a win like that
shows you a lot about our resilience as a as
a team and as an offense too. I think just
going down like you, we would have loved to score
a touchdown or to score a touchdown on that last drive.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
But the way that we were able.
Speaker 10 (23:19):
To kind of go down the field and continue to
to just play ball and you know, not not get
caught up in how the game's going or the flow
of the game. You know, I think we were just
able to to really just continue to take it one
step at a time throughout the game and you know,
you're gonna go through the ebbs and flows of it,
and for us to just be able to, you know,
(23:40):
have a good drive. Obviously, we would have loved, like
I said, to score, but to end it in a
field goal and make them have to go the whole
way and score a touchdown, you.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
Know, put a lot of pressure on them to go
do that.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Sorry, guys, just one more you brought up resilience. You
were resilient, so anyone out like that may be dealing
with something, what advice would you give to.
Speaker 10 (24:07):
Yeah, I think I think the biggest thing is lean
on the people that you trust in the world. You know,
whether it's your friends, whether it's your family, whether it's
your teammates.
Speaker 8 (24:15):
Your coaches that you're with at the time.
Speaker 10 (24:18):
Just continue to lean on those on those people because
whether you're going through tough times or whether you're having
success like we are now, you know, you just got
to continue to to have those relationships. And when you
have those relationships, you know who you are as a person.
And for me, like, I'm very confident in who I
am as a person, so I'm never going to change
(24:39):
that way. And I feel like we have a lot
of guys in that locker room with that same kind
of mindset, and you know that's just you know, to
be able to come into work every single day with
with guys like that, you know, it's a blessing.
Speaker 8 (24:53):
So what did you think of when your able let's
go through It's incredible.
Speaker 10 (24:59):
Man, when you can get defensive touchdowns, it's always fun
to watch sitting there on the bench. But yeah, you know,
I saw him catch it and I was like, all right, cool,
Like let's go grab my helmet and uh, five seconds
later or you know whatever, it was eight ten seconds
later he was in the end zone and uh, I
was like, all right, let's go man. Another pick six
(25:19):
for Gang. So uh, you know, it's awesome to see
awesome to see our defense play the way that they
did today.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Are kind of disrupt you.
Speaker 8 (25:27):
Guys there for years.
Speaker 10 (25:29):
Yeah, I think for us, obviously Aaron's a great player,
but we just got to continue to, you know, have
a next man up mentality, you know, kind of similar
to you know what we did in the San Francisco
game with Jets and Jordan being out and having some
guys be able to step up and the way that
they did, and Aaron going out in that game as well,
just just having guys continue to step up the way
(25:51):
that they did. You know, We're just always gonna have
that mindset of of next man up.
Speaker 7 (25:56):
Kind of it's hard to win one game in the
NFL and VIVM defeat, especially when you have to travel,
or how do you feel reflected on those five games
knowing that you are the quarterback in Minnesota Vikings by
and no Minnesota Vikings, reflecting of what you've done so.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Far that makes you feel.
Speaker 10 (26:15):
Yeah, you know, I think for us we have a
lot of good things clicking right now as a team.
But it's early, and uh, you know, we know it's
a long season, and you know, we just again like
I said, kind of in the beginning, we just got
to continue to to take it one stip at a time.
And if you know, you get caught up in what
people are saying about you, and you're this, you're that,
(26:36):
you know, you know we we weren't listening to to
anything that people are saying before the season, so why
would we start now? And so I think for us,
it's it's kind of having that mindset.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
That the moisture affects accuracy at all, just trying to
get a feel for the walls and ring picked up
a little bit there.
Speaker 10 (26:51):
No, I felt like, you know, I had a good,
good grip on it the whole time.
Speaker 8 (26:55):
See Kevin gives it.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
You wanted to say you kind of stay aggressive with
the shots down in the fielder.
Speaker 11 (26:59):
Is that something that you felt like was there?
Speaker 8 (27:01):
And just he has work connected you know that there
was opportunities.
Speaker 10 (27:04):
Yeah, there were definitely opportunities out there that I missed,
you know, And then like I said, you know, we'll
watch the tape and and get better that way. But again,
you know, there's there's a lot of opportunity out there
to be had, and you know, we just gotta, you
know myself personally, you know, just got to continue to
take it, you know, one play at a time, and
you know, I feel like if I can do that,
(27:24):
we'll be good on.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
Those deep shots. Do feel like you were pressing a
little bit or do you.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Feel like you're really comfortable with all the decisions you made?
Speaker 10 (27:32):
Yeah, I mean I'm always comfortable with the decisions that
I make. You know, you have to be as a quarterback.
If you're ever doubting yourself out there, it's which is
kind of you know some things that I did early
in my career.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
You know, it can be a long day.
Speaker 10 (27:44):
So I think just having that confidence in myself to
be able to let it rip whenever I see something
or what you know, when I'm confident, you know, I
feel like, you know, I can you know, just uh,
you know, continue to to stay patient that way and uh,
you know, wherever the coverage, wherever the defense, wherever they go,
and you know, whatever guy's open, you know, you just
(28:06):
throw it to them.
Speaker 8 (28:06):
You know, it's as easy as that.
Speaker 10 (28:07):
But I think for me, it's continuing to to see
the field and just go through my reads and and
time my feed in with my eyes. And I feel
like if I can do that and stay patient, that way,
we'll be good.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Saying what are the main.
Speaker 9 (28:20):
Nues that this fight us guilds on.
Speaker 6 (28:23):
What are the main minds that this fighting now runs
going to go on so far as season?
Speaker 10 (28:27):
Yeah, I think some of the biggest things, just to
name a couple, are, you know, consistency and resiliency.
Speaker 8 (28:32):
You know, I feel like that's kind of our m O.
Speaker 10 (28:36):
If we can continue to to stay consistent and kind
of like I talked about, like as an offense, you know,
just continue to continue to you know, sustain drives and
you know, you get in these third and long situations
which are tough.
Speaker 8 (28:49):
You know.
Speaker 10 (28:49):
I think for us, for me, just being able to
put the ball in play and live to see another down,
you know, and then go like I said, you go
through ebbs and flows of every single game and just
being able to you know, have that resiliency to just
take it one play at a time after that, you know,
that's kind of our mindset as an offense, but as
a whole team as well.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
So now the Vikings head into the bye, we have
no Vikings football next week, two weeks from the taping
of this postgame report. The Detroit Lions, who are on
a by this week they head to US Bank Stadium.
Some things on which the Vikings will work during the bye.
I don't have any idea what that will be, but
healing Aaron jones hip that's the a topic right now,
(29:32):
and the oncoming return of TJ. Hockinson. Don't know if
it's going to be Lions or maybe Rams after that,
but you're gonna throw some gas on this fire that
is the Minnesota Vikings offense with Jefferson and Addison, hopefully
Aaron Jones and then TJ. Hawkinson.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
You're right, and when you have all those weapons working together,
you know, it's one thing to game plan for a
guy not being around. I think you can work around that,
but when you lose a guy, you know, midway through
the second quarter, it's tough to make those adjustments for
in game. Now, talk about the Lions. We gave up
thirty six yards rushing today.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
If we can replicate that against the Lions, team. As
much as they throw the football, it's their running game
that they use to break the backs of defenses. It's
just they have such a good running game. If we
can hold the Lions to thirty six or you know,
under like fifty yards rushing limit, that I think that's
that's going to be a you know, it's going to
(30:26):
be a need and that's something that we're going to
have to do. But a huge, huge game coming up
against the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Let's go find some fish and chips and celebrate this
victory with thousands of Vikings fans in town taking in
the game at Tottenham Hotsburg.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Great job, now London's been good to us, Paul, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Four and oh baby started back in twenty thirteen at
Wembley when they toppled Big Ben and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers,
and most recently a twenty three to sixteen victory over
the New York Jets. The Minnesota Vikings are five and
zero into the bye for Pete versuch On, Paul Allen.
This is a Curly Hearess production. Thank you for listening
to the undefeated Vikings postgame report. Have a wonderful day.
