Speaker 3 (00:58):
Hello, everyone, and welcome in to our show for this Monday,
as the Wildcats celebrate a win over Eastern Michigan forty
eight to twenty three at Kroger Field on Saturday night.
This is an open date on the schedule for the Wildcats,
one of two this season, another one coming up in
the second week of October. Coach Oops not with us
(01:19):
weeks Offensive coordinator Bush Hampden will be with us. Josh
Katis from that offensive side of the ball at tight
end got a touchdown catch on Saturday, and Ty Bryant
from the defensive side had two picks the week before
against Old Miss, And we'll be talking to all of
them and to you over the course of the next hour.
(01:39):
Coach Oops, we'll be doing the SEC teleconference on Wednesday,
and I think he's got a news conference he's doing
Wednesday well, So you get a little update from the
headman later this week as we find out what the
Wildcats are working on looking ahead to the matchup with
South Carolina. Several superlatives of note in the game on
Saturday night, four hundred and ninety two total yards in
(02:02):
the game. That was Kentucky's best production against an FBS
opponent since the game at Louisville and twenty twenty one.
Kentucky has rushed for six hundred and forty four yards
through the post in the first three games since twenty eighteen,
and there were eight runs of ten or more yards
and seven passes of twenty or more yards. And we're
going to talk to Bush Hampden about that and getting
(02:24):
the big play going for the Kentucky offense. Wildcats also
seven of seven in the red zone in this game.
They're fourteen of fifteen through Week three and think they
are I want to say eight of fifteen touchdowns Tony
Neelam checking the touchdown percentage is high. They had all
(02:46):
touchdowns but one in the red zone on Saturday when
they were perfect in seven for seven. Coming up, we'll
get to our conversation with coach Hampden when we come
right back. It's The Mark Stoop Show presented by UK Healthcare.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Welcome back into our show for this Monday, and we
are joined by UK offensive coordinator Bush Hampden. By the way,
we did get that stat on the red zone. It's
ten touchdowns out of fifteen attempts, so that's sixty seven percent.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Bush.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
One of the areas that you guys want to improve
in was the red zone and checking that box. So far,
third and short production has been improved. Offensive line is
an area that everybody was talking about coming into the season.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Nice job for you, Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 10 (06:33):
I mean again, you look at what Eric Wolford did,
certainly in the short amount of time you have in
the transfer portal these days. And not only are the
five guys that we have with you know, Jagger and
Farmer being back, but the other three that we brought.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Can't say enough about them is.
Speaker 10 (06:52):
How they've worked, how much they care about their craft,
and it's it's been their leadership.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
The third offense as a hole, well.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Let's talk about Cutter Bowl. He makes his second start,
gets his first win as a starter for Kentucky. And
what did you like best about what he did on Saturday?
Speaker 10 (07:10):
I think he was extremely decisive, you know, from a
decision making standpoints. Sometimes when you have a guy that
hasn't started a ton of games, they can tend to
overthink things, if you will, Tom and you know, we
really tried to keep it not necessarily inform, but just
in his mind of allowing him to play fast. Certainly,
(07:30):
he made a lot of really nice throws, but I
liked when things were not there, some of the running ability,
the scrambles to make plays.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
I think that's something we have to build on.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
When Jeff and I talked to you on Thursday night,
you said you were one thing you wanted to do
on Friday was to get one last meeting with Cutter
and just go over, Okay, what do you like best
in the game plan? Kind of what he was most
comfortable with. You don't have to tell us those things,
but talk about a little little bit on how the
(08:02):
look you saw or that you're seeing now in him
versus last year when he was in his first.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Year in the program.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
He's had a spring and now a really solid training camp,
and do you see a noticeable difference.
Speaker 10 (08:14):
I think it's always a huge jump to go from
high school to college and get making the jump into
the SEC, and so I think for him, we've just
seen tremendous growth.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
We really have.
Speaker 10 (08:25):
I think you guys know that through this past spring
and through fall camp. There's a confidence level I think
one in the system, but just the speed of the game. Again,
we just we've been pleased with him and how he
settled in and he's really had a calm demeanor, never
too high, never too low, and I think he used
that as a vantage.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Christ You and I were talking chat on a little
NFL before the show started, and it's a good example
of the kind of the mindset of quarterback has to
have a guy you worked with when you were at Washington.
Jake brownings with the Bengals now and he was forced
into action because of the Joe burn injury yesterday, and
he throws three interceptions, but he also leads him on
(09:04):
a game winning drive. So they're going to be mistakes
in that position, they get noticed anybody else's mistakes, and
yet if you keep playing, sometimes it.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Does work out.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Absolutely.
Speaker 10 (09:15):
I think you know, particularly at that position, you can't
ride the roller coaster and you never know which drive,
which play it's going to be that's gonna ultimately determine
the outcome of a game.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
And so.
Speaker 10 (09:27):
Obviously proud of Cutter and how he played, proud of
how Jake's playing and what he's been able to accomplish.
And I'm excited to watch those guys as they keep going.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
From last year the Louisville game, when he was getting
ready to make his first start at things that you
had told us, and one of them ahead in the
notes was that you described him as sneaky athletic, so
he can do a little damage with his legs if
need be.
Speaker 10 (09:50):
I think so, and I've always felt that about him.
He's got great length, and you know, so much of
the game these days with as tight as the coverage
is on the outside, sometimes we joke around that scramble
drill is going to be one other year, and so
certainly very pleased with what he did when things broke down,
or his vertical running ability. You know, those are things that,
(10:12):
again you can't really coach, but can add a lot
of energy to an offense.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Probably especially true in the situation you're in right now,
where you have a wide receiver group that have a
ton of experience, and so those guys are getting pressed
pretty hard. I saw that certainly in the Old Miss
game Eastern Michigan in Week one at a really good
secondary where it can be hard to get off the line,
but if guys, if the opponent's playing a lot of man,
it does offer opportunities for the quarterback to get loose
(10:38):
because the receiver is locked up.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
With the cornerback.
Speaker 10 (10:41):
Absolutely, I think it's the golden rule. If they're not open,
you're open. And again, I just think it really added
another dimension, if you will, to that game on Saturday.
His ability to climb the pocket, which is something we've
addressed and talks to detail about, and add that running ability.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Offense and back to the offensive line, and they're giving
him a clean pocket most of the time.
Speaker 10 (11:02):
Yeah, I think it's been, you know, certainly improved. It'll
be a great test this next opponent. We think, you know,
these are two of the best defensive ends maybe in
the conference, and so you know, it'll be a great
test and we're gonna do everything we can to be
ready for it.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
We will continue our conversation with coach Hamidon. If you
have a question, you can send those in at UK

Pistol formation doubt Dell Now the deep back. They fake
it for him. Bowley looks right, looks lamp fires touchdown Kentucky.
It's Willie Rodriguez wide open along the back line of
the end zone. Two touchdown passes for cutter Bowlly. On Saturdays,
(14:51):
this is the Mark Stoops Show, presented by UK Healthcare.
We're visiting with offensive coordinator Bush Hampden. Two throwbacks to
the Titans. That one to Willie works superbly, perfectly executed play.
When you guys are coming up with creating plays, do
you ever get them from I mean you see an
(15:12):
NFL game and think that looks like work that in
or another college game or anything like that.
Speaker 10 (15:16):
Yeah, I think weekly, you know, we definitely it's probably
the first thing you come in on a Sunday and
after you put the last game to rest, we'll watch
explosive play cut up or short yardage conversions in college
in the NFL, and so sometimes it might not be
a different scheme, but a different presentation of it, if
you will. And so you know, that's certainly something we
(15:37):
always like to do every week.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
You mentioned big plays, there were a bunch of those.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
I know that's something you wanted to get that total
up and we saw that in this game. I think
seven of Cutters completions, seven of his twelve were for
at least twenty yards.
Speaker 10 (15:51):
Yeah, critical, I mean there's you know, for us, the
three things that we've really been focused on. Number one
is taking care of the football. You know, in the
games that we've one, we feel we've done a good
job of that certainly. Second is what you're talking about,
those explosive plays, changing those can be so a lot
of positives in that game to be able to push
the ball down the field. Fortune have the two running
(16:13):
backs we do who can make some people miss and
got to keep doing that as the season gets going.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Speaking of the running backs, that's a good segue into
Seth McGowan's game. He had his second career one hundred
yard game, scored three rushing touchdowns gives him five for
the season, which is most in the SEC. What skill
what in the skill set for what's most impressive to
you about him as a running back?
Speaker 5 (16:36):
I think it's his physicality.
Speaker 10 (16:38):
I mean every time you know, Josh will come up
here and talk to you about him as well, But
I think every single time that guy touches the ball,
whether it's in practice or games, he's looking to score.
And I think, as we know, it's a physical game,
and his ability to play with that kind of physicality
and that kind of passion is tremendous. But with his size,
this has been a huge plus for us, and you know,
(17:01):
he's certainly one of more talented backs.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
In the league.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
We'll make that out our Alumni Hall Question of the
week fans, what do you like best about Seth McGowan's
game from the running back position? Your answer to that
question can go to at Alumni Hall uk on X
and you get a chance to win a gift card
courtesy of Alumni Hall. Dante Dell Dell got dinged up
and didn't play. I don't know if any in the
(17:25):
second half or much gave Jason Patterson a chance to
get several carries and he was a guy that carried
a big workload in the two August scrimmages, and this
was his first chance to show you what he can do.
And I know from a coaches standpoint, it's important for
guys who are down the depth chart a little bit
to show you what they can do and when they
(17:46):
get on the field to gain your trust.
Speaker 10 (17:48):
Absolutely, I think Jason remarkable story from the standpoint of
did a lot of good things last year. We bring
in the two transfer portal backs and he really hasn't
bad an eye. You know, he's gone to work, he
doesn't say much, He's continued to work on his craft
and just keep getting better. Sometimes that can be rare
in this day and age, and we're fortunate he was
(18:09):
able to go out there and have some early success.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
You know.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Back to Seth, I know, one of the things you
mentioned about about him outside of between the white lines
is but on games is the approach that he's taken
to practices. Really, from the time he came.
Speaker 10 (18:25):
Seth's approach has been tremendous. I mean, you know, from
the day we got out here, the way he was
working all summer, every rep he's taken, we try to
have a saying of practice execution equals game day reality,
and really nobody's embodied that as much as Seth knows
how important it is to get it right, especially when
you're new and you're in a quick situation where you're
(18:47):
trying to develop chemistry, that every rep's important and you
know certainly the rhythm of him and getting us in
rhythm has been critical.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
That's offensive coordinator Bush Hampton. One more segment with him
when we come back. It's the March Stoop Show UK
Healthcare here on the UK Sports Network.
Speaker 18 (19:04):

And off McGowan trying to get outside right. He does
three touchdowns today for set McGowan untouched into the end
zone on the far side, one of three in that game,
five on the season for SETH and again points to
the offensive line doing a good job and also tight
ends are a big part of the blocking plan and
(21:28):
you are blessed to have an abundance of good ones
and those guys, I mean you saw two touchdown catches
from Caddis and Rodriguez and Boyer, Uh looked like he
was gonna get one as well for you.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Yeah, they've been doing a great job. And you know,
again you look at consistency and day in and day
out what it needs to look like. Uh.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
You know, Josh, who obviously will bring up here in
a little bit, has been the leader of this offense.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
In a lot of ways.
Speaker 10 (21:57):
For a while, and so uh, I think Willy's a
certainly high end talented kid that's really coming and putting together.
And I think both of those guys are feeding off
of each other. And Boyer's been an addition. He really
is a guy that maybe didn't play as much in
Illinois but has been able to come in and provide
a lot of valuable reps. Take some reps off of
these two guys, and it's been huge for us.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I always think it's neat when you can come up
with a way to find a play or a couple
of plays that gets somebody on the field that maybe
wouldn't otherwise get out there. And right now your offensive
line has been blessed in I have any image.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
In short yardage that you're using.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Malack high Wood a backup tackle as a tied end
on the line of scrimmage. Yeah, I think it's Boyer
on the other side, and maybe the wing back is
Willie and Caddis is the full back.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
I added this up. It was I think.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Three and sixty five pounds of player you have out
there at that point.
Speaker 10 (22:54):
Well, I think it was a package, to be quite
honest with you, when we were going through just the
evaluation pross and watching him on short yardage and I
can't say it's exactly what I think Nebraska was using,
but it was very similar. And so but you're right
for a guy like Malachy, who we've got a lot
of confidence in being the next tackle in the game,
(23:15):
to be able to get them out there, get them
some reps is really valuable.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
At Bluegrass Recruiting, sends in a question at UK Sports setwork.
Not a question really, just to comment that it was
great seeing so many of the young play on Saturday
because those reps are critical, as he says, for the youngsters.
And we mentioned Neo Malachi there, but mentioned Jason Patterson
and so others that got a chance to get on
the field. That every snap and rep is I guess
(23:41):
meaningful when it's in a game situation.
Speaker 10 (23:43):
Right, absolutely, And we feel, you know, there's a lot
of young players in this program that we think can
be really special players, and so naturally for when you
got to throw them in the fire and the sec
and when you get an opportunity like that for them
to go take those reps. You know, any reps are
great reps in those.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Situations from Cats, then how are Stone Solanders and to
Vanni and it's Fefani Mozelle doing.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Both are doing great today.
Speaker 10 (24:14):
We actually just during the bye week we're able to
get about thirty forty reps with some of those. Again,
the ability to get those guys out there they've been
on working with scout teams if you know whatnot, and
to get them right back into your system and watch
them go compete was great.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
And you know you have with Zach Hurt last week
would normally have been the backup in that situation. It's
a nice luxury to have a guy's experienced as Bo
Allen to be able to be in your quarterback room.
Speaker 10 (24:42):
Absolutely, if you know all we said about Bow, you
can take a lot of really really you know, talented
guys and go to where Bow's gone and and not
have the success that Bo's had there. You know, he's
a guy who really understands the game and we're very
confident that he can go in and and certainly move
a football and so fortunate to have Bow.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
In the room.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Mentioned the tight ends earlier in terms of the production
that you're getting from them, getting a lot of targets
and making a lot of catches. To this point, is
it just favorable matchups to meet.
Speaker 10 (25:12):
I think it's you know, them making the plays, and
that's you know, every week has a life of its
own if you will. But you know, Josh has always
been a guy if we put the ball somewhere around him,
he's going to go compete for it, and I think
it's that competitive nature with the ball in the air.
Certainly this year, both those guys are guys that we
know we can rely on and make plays and we
(25:34):
hope to continue to target them.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
And Josh, just to your point, I think it was
I think it was Week one where there was a
contested play down the sideline that he nearly came up
with good play by the defender. And then Saturday he
made a fantastic catch along the sideline and nearly had
one in the end zone. It I know Jeff certainly
was lobbying for him to get the touchdown on review
(25:57):
and that play didn't happen, but it was He's good footwork.
Speaker 10 (26:00):
Yeah, absolutely, and again he's worked at it. There's harder,
uh certainly offensively in our building than him to become
as complete a players he can be. I think there
were times in training camp where the coaching staff was
getting there early and all you just kept hearing were
the jugs machines at about five point forty five six
o'clock in the morning. And that's the commitment that he's had.
(26:22):
And you know, he doesn't do anything half speed. Anything
he does, he's going to put everything into it. And
it's been a huge consistency from him since I've really
been here.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
So three games under your belt now is an offense?
What are the points of emphasis for improvement as you
go back into SEC play a week from Saturday.
Speaker 10 (26:45):
You know, I think the number one thing, you know
we just talked to talk to these guys about is
the physicality piece. And you know, we want to be
a blue collar physical approach. That's something that we have
to tank every week and empty it every week. And
I think that's where it starts. Obviously, that's to be
in our DNA. The ability to run the football. Certainly
coming off you know, a disappointing Week two against Old Miss,
(27:07):
the urgency in our operation, that's that's the next thing
that we've been discussing from the standpoint of much better
in week three. But the personnel groups, the getting aligned,
the communication with a new offense will be critical and
then like I said, it's been the same thing, taking
care of the football, creating explosives, making people miss. Those
(27:27):
are the factors that are always going to be critical
for us.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Week in and week out, and you look, you look
for ways to give your guys the best chance to
have success. And so some of the motion things that
we see you do, especially a lot with Kendrick Law,
a lot of that is to not only give the
quarterback a look at what the defense is doing, but
to give them a chance to get open against tight
coverage that they're going to see in this league.
Speaker 10 (27:50):
Absolutely, I think you know for us, there's a fine
line there again for not making it too complicated for
our players, but as much defense as these defenses are
playing these days, to force them to communicate, whether it's
their coverage or stacks and bunches and movement, it's always
going to be a part of what we do to
(28:10):
try to get guys open. And we've got to continue
to go.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Start game planning for a next opponent. Is I'm guessing
the first thing you look at is probably just reviewing
the most recent game for your guys. The previous game,
if you played the team the year before. Is the
case with South Carolina? Is that something pretty early in
the week you're looking at that too, I think so.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
I think it's always the give or take one.
Speaker 10 (28:34):
You're studying their current personnel, so maybe last year's game
would it is, But certainly when the coordinator doesn't change,
you get evidence into exactly how they decide to play
in So it's always that back and forth. If you will,
you know, studying this year's film, get a feel how
much scheme they have changed and really get a good
(28:55):
feel for who their personnel is.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
It's offensive coordinator bush Hamnon. Thank you for coming out.
Speaker 5 (28:59):
Thanks to appreciate you man.
Speaker 3 (29:00):

It's the fans, the students, the traditions, the legends. It's
passion to celebrate deeper, reach farther, think smarter, make an
impact off the field. That happens when sixteen schools raise

Speaker 3 (32:34):
Tatis the tight end right, boldly sliding right, he says,
looks back laught touchdown, Kentucky. I mean you were wide
open as we welcome in Josh Katis to the program
here on the Mark Stoop Show presented by UK Healthcare.
When the ball's coming to you and you're that wide open,
what's going through your head?
Speaker 1 (32:53):
It's like, please don't drop this.
Speaker 25 (32:55):
Your heart starts to beat a little bit faster than normal.
Got to make sure you secure it in and cut
it through a good pass there, and but your heart's
definitely definitely pound a little bit there.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
When on some of those plays, can you tell when
you guys line up that it's gonna work?
Speaker 25 (33:12):
Yeah, yeah, I mean there's some you have like pre
snap indicators and then post snap reactions. So like obviously
if you're looking at the safety, you're looking at the
leverage of the defender that there's a shot that it
could happen. But the defense you know right as the
ball snap, So you definitely have some some pre snap thoughts,
but ultimately it's just going out there and reacting.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
If you have a question for Josh, send it in
on social media at UK Sports Network. Kind Of an
interesting nugget that we all heard in the post game
from Cutter is that the two touchdown passes went to
his two roommates. So does he get like a break
in the rint you guys cover the rent this month
because he threw the ball, or does he have to
(33:53):
cover because you caught him?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
That's funny. Now, I don't know.
Speaker 25 (33:57):
I mean, I think it's it's ironic that that happened.
But we were definitely all very excited after the game,
and you know, he he put it on us. There
were a good good execution, good play call by coach Hamden.
It was wide open both times. I think Willie and
I both ran the same route, so uh yeah, it
was just ultimately good execute to play and the blocking
up front.
Speaker 26 (34:16):
And all that.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
So, Joshkatis from Bowler High School up in Cincinnati, your
dad was college football player too.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Right, Yes, sir.
Speaker 25 (34:25):
He went to Colrane High School and then played at
Michigan under Bo Schimbckler and then fortunately got drafted back
to his hometown and that's where we've lived for many years.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
So that's where I grew up and he grew up
as well.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
So you have that kind of resource as you're getting
ready to come and play at the university ent college
level in the Southeastern Conference.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
What's the best advice the dad gave you.
Speaker 25 (34:49):
I think just go out there and give your best
each and every day.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
I think once you get to.
Speaker 25 (34:55):
The college level, there's a there's a lot of pressure,
and especially with how it is nowadays with nil and stuff.
But he ultimately just told me to go out there
and have fun and be a leader. Uh And you know,
you only get this. This is such a short time
span within your life, so you got to enjoy it.
It's really flown by. I can't believe I'm already a senior.
(35:15):
And I really like the team that we put together
this year. And we got a really close knit group
of guys, and I'm very thankful that Coach Stoops and
Coach Hanman, you know, went after some of those some
of the guys we brought in because they're really good
people and we got a really good culture within the building.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
So and you guys have been very productive thus far.
I mean, I don't know how much of this you
guys are here to get. The coaches and Coach Stops
has heard it for the years he's been here. I've
heard it for as long as I've been around it.
I think, maybe except for James Whalen's All America year,
throw it to the tight end more throw it to
the time, which I'm sure you guys would say amen too.
(35:52):
But there you guys are getting more catches and targets
this year.
Speaker 25 (35:56):
Yeah, I mean, I think the addition to Coach Shay,
I mean, he's done an incredible job. I mean, he's
the younger, younger experience. He's coached some really talented tight
ends in the past, some of them that are in
the NFL right now. And you know, he has brought
a lot to the table. He's taught us a lot
of new things, and I think just his mentality each
(36:16):
week and inspires us. And one thing I'll say about him,
not to like expose him, but like just watching how
much this game means to him. Like he'll have us
all in our like little tight end huddle right before
the game and he'll tear up just like talking about
how much. And that fires you up as a player,
and that makes you want to go play your heart
out for him. And you know, I'm really really thankful that,
(36:37):
you know, how he's been developing us and we got
a really close knit group of guys.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
In that tight end room. What's the.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Significant coaching point that he's been able to give you
that's really helped anything.
Speaker 25 (36:49):
I mean, there's a lot of stuff he's cleaned up,
you know. I mean he's helped us in the run game,
he's helped us in the past game. And then also
like mentally, like we kind of have a quote the
word each week. It's called the bull. It's the bull,
don't care. And early in camp, he showed us this
story of this uh, this famous bull rider. I don't
know all the details, but he was maybe in Texas
or something. He was the best of the best.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
He was. I think the story said he was like
the Joe.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
Montana bull riding.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Uh.
Speaker 25 (37:12):
He won this big championship and he the next day
he packed up his bags. He didn't celebrate, He moved
elsewhere and he was gonna go on and and when
they asked him why he did that, he answered, the
bull don't care what I did last week. And I
think we take that really personally in the tight end room.
It's like, Okay, you know, you have a good day
(37:33):
in camp, you have a good practice, you have a
good game, whatever, but you know the bull's gonna trying
to buck you off the next week. And I just
think the mentality that he's brought into the room has
been incredible.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Boyer's been a nice edition coming in from Illinois. The
scouting report that we all got his media members and
fans was that, you know, excellent blocker. Not used much
of the passing game. He catches the ball well. Who
got robbed of a touchdown unfortunately when the play was
blown dead the other day. But he can catch the
ball well.
Speaker 25 (37:57):
He's a really good addition, you know, not only on
the field, but He's one of one of my better
friends on the team, and he's a great addition, great
culture guy. And you know, he actually showed a lot
in camp that he could make those plays and run
some really good routes. And I'm really excited about him.
I'm so happy we got him and he I was
celebrating with him in the end zone and they robbed
(38:19):
us of the the trifecta that last week.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
So yeah, good had three touchdowns by three different tight ends.
So that would have sent to Tony and Susan in
the research department scouring the record books. H So maybe
it will happen at some point. I got to ask
you another one. I mean, you had a catch on
the back line of the end got ruled incomplete, but
very close to get you a Touchdad. You made a
(38:43):
great catch on the sideline. H later in the game.
How much of that footwork was built through dancing with
the Lexington Stars.
Speaker 25 (38:52):
You know, I know you're gonna ask that, you know,
I think I think a lot of it. As you know,
we did the I said this a lot. We did
the the three step or the two Stephen when we
competed this last year, and it's type four when you're
on the siline, you gotta have tight type four working
to get the ball and bounce. And so I all
credit goes out to uh dancing one of the stars
in a little bit to Coachet just a little bit too.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Uh, Let's talk a little bit about Cutter before we
cut you lose. Uh.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
You know, he gets his first start last year in
the Governor's Cup game, and I was telling Bush I
went back and watched the tape of the early part
of it, and he seemed to miss high early in est,
which would be understandable. He seemed very composed, and even
the throws that were incomplete were in spots where you
guys had a shot at them.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 25 (39:38):
I obviously it's nerve wracking coming in as a freshman
quarterback in a big rivalry game. But I will say
he is extremely composed, not I don't want to say
care free, but he just goes out there and plays
and has fun and he's he's ultra competitive. He made
those throws, and we saw make camp and he looked
(39:58):
like he ran the offense, and obviously being out there,
I could tell that as well.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
He ran the offense very well.
Speaker 25 (40:03):
And I think, Uh, there's a lot of excitement around him,
and I think he just has to keep putting his
head down and going to work. And obviously we have
a big SEC opponent coming up after this next week,
so if he got the start, you know, that's that's
a big test for him, but I think he'll be
ready for it.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
On a text chain with some high school buddies and
one of them for the game when heard him interviews,
so he sounds like a surfer dude.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
He does.
Speaker 25 (40:27):
He gives off surfer dude vibes. That's just kind of
who Cutter is and like I said, kind of a
care free like almost like a gold retriever. It's kind
of his personality. You know, he's super happy, always smiling,
and yeah, that's how he is until he gets on
the football field.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
I don't know he turns it on. Well, the Golden Receiver. Gosh, Katta,
I liked that. Thanks for coming by, Yeah, thanks for
having me.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
That's Josh kattis joining us here on the Mark Stoop Show,

UK Healthcare, and we've kept Josh gatis Ren for one
more thing, and that is to talk about a special
event that is coming up.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
So take it away, Hi guys, Yeah, I'm back.
Speaker 25 (43:17):
I just wanted to talk about an opportunity that I'll
be taking part of this Thursday, I will be doing
a shoe drive. It's parking lot in front of Malones
and Drakes from six to eight pm on Thursday, and
and all the shoes will be purchased by a third
party and given to be reused in developing countries. And
(43:37):
also all the money will help with this camp horsing around.
So if you guys have any shoes with no holes,
no roller blades or ice skates, if you guys could
help us out, and I know Cutter will be there,
we'll be there. If you guys can help us out,
that would be really appreciative.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
So it's six to eight this Thursday, yep.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
And we're at the Malones and Drakes in the Lansdowne
shop center here in Lexington off Tates Creek Road. So
you can come by after work or whenever you can
fit it into your schedule. You get a couple of
hours there to do that and it helps camp horsing
around great. All right, well that's a great cause. Thank
you again for coming out, Josh.
Speaker 25 (44:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (44:16):

(45:03):
joined now by Ty Bryant. He is a safety for
the Wildcats also returns punts and get just a little
big on Saturday because the guy from Eastern Michigan punted
one flat and we sat on the air He's going
to get a shot to return this and you took
it back I think twenty five.
Speaker 26 (45:19):
Yards, yes, sir, Yeah, I mean when I seen the
trajectory of the plant, I was like, okay, I've been
waiting just to get one where I can actually return,
and I mean that was the one.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
You know, punters are so good, especially in the SEC
when you're back in the league, that you know you
don't get a lot of chances like that where somebody
or you know, didn't you know, get the the length
that he wants and where you get actually a shot
to return it. So and you did a lot of
that in high school at Douglas.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
Yes, So yeah, I did.
Speaker 26 (45:48):
Majority of my time in high school, I spent you know,
playing defense obviously, but then returning kicks and punts.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
So Saturday, on the defensive side. I know Coach White,
who didn't sound too had after the game, right Kentucky
defens court. I saw him in an interview and he
just said, it's not gonna be a you know, just
a fun open week or something to that effect. So
he's going to challenge you guys this week and.
Speaker 1 (46:11):
This player he is.
Speaker 26 (46:12):
We walked into the meeting and off the rip, it
was a defensive unit meeting, and you know, he just
watched I think, like he said, thirteen plays of the
game that he just did not like, and you know,
it's just it's all fixable things. And he just said,
you know, we have really good things that we do,
but you know, we gotta start to because the bad
things really could come back and bite us.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
And the one way you know that it's fixable. I
went back today and looked at where Kentucky ranked in
giving up big plays, and I just focused on twenty
yards or more. And the numbers not good this year,
as you guys know, and you're working on that, but
if you go back every other year, I think the
average rank is somewhere about in the top four or
five of the league. Right, So it's something that Kentucky's
(46:54):
known for, like, so clearly it's something that you guys
work on. You know, the the emphasis on it, so
that would suggest there's a high level of confidence you
guys can get it figured out.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
Yes's definitely.
Speaker 26 (47:05):
I feel like every single day that we come into
like the workspace, like the office and stuff like that,
we watch practice or the game or something like that,
that's just always an emphasis like we don't want to
give up any explosives. And obviously it's the game of
football is going to happen, but we need to eliminate
those two you know, minimums possible, say.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
To get takeaways.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
And you guys have a streak now twelve consecutive games
with at least one got one on their first play
last week.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
Did Yeah, that was really nice.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
I love that to Ryan made a tremendous play and
then Rainers right there to benefit from that. Jake, you
got one of the first week, you got a little selfish,
took two of them astly.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
It's all pretty great and good though.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
We would talking with with Josh about advice from his
dad who played college.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Foot college football here on the other side of the ball,
he did.
Speaker 3 (47:50):
Cisco Bryant, And what did Cisco tell you when you
were getting ready to come and play at his alma water.
Speaker 26 (47:56):
He just said, going there and be myself. I mean,
he gave me all the tools, he prepped me the
right way of growing up. Here's the reason why I
worked so hard today. You know what I mean when
it comes like sports and stuff like that. But you know,
he just going there and be you, be confident, do
what you do, have fun while doing it.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
And yeah, that is ty Brian Safety. Take a break,
come back and one more segment with him when we return.

in his first quarter.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
So did you think you were going to score on
both of them or one or the other.
Speaker 8 (51:48):
Uh?
Speaker 26 (51:49):
If I'm being honest, When the ball hit my hands
on both of them, I thought I was going to
score the first one when I started running, I have
more confidence I was going to score. The second one,
it was just like I made a few cuts and
then there was just I was a rounding by misplayers.
I was like, yeah, I'm not taking on hit, just
get down, thinking like a quarterback there.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Yeah, yes, there on Saturday where Cutter whether it's the
old miss game, and I think there was another one
on Saturday where it's like, you know, I appreciate your
your bravado for taking on the hit, but you know,
sometimes the slide.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
Is to stay in the game. Facts. I agree.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Defensively, what do you think is gonna be the strength
of this defense as the season plays out?
Speaker 26 (52:29):
I think, honestly, probably like our back I'm really confident,
not just because like I'm in there, but I feel
I'm really confident everybody on our team. But I feel
like our back ends probably gonna be our staple. But
like just playing fast, playing physical, like not for like
every every position brings that to the table.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
At the one corner opposite JQ, you guys have been
we're down Saturday two guys. Waller was out before the
game and then Tryan gets hurt during the game and
a true freshman Grant Greaton comes in and plays them
in the second half. How did you, guys, as veterans
help him out when you're out there on the field
with him.
Speaker 26 (53:04):
Obviously, you know, going in there as a freshman, his
heart was probably founding and stuff like that. But I
told him when I was on the same size, so
I'm like, just listen to me. I'm not gonna stir
you wrong. And him and I we haven't had too
many reps together and practice at all, but I told him,
I'm not gonna stir you wrong. I just just play
you know ball. I mean, at the end of the day,
it's just you playing ball. So I mean, I'm proud
of him, I'm proud of them. We watched the tape
today and it is.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Quite a challenge in this league. I mean, you're facing
guys that are going to the next level practice, You're
playing teams in this league that's kinda be fun.
Speaker 26 (53:34):
Though it is, it's a challenge every single week. I mean,
you just got to look at it like as a
new week. I'm a new challenge, like we just said,
and it's a chance for you to go out there
and shine. I mean, if you do it at the SEC.
You do it at the highest level in college, so
I mean it's it's definitely just a chance just to.
Speaker 1 (53:47):
Put your name on the mapping. Yeah, I enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
What's the appeal of the defensive side of the ball
to you, because coming up, you know, playing until you
get to college, a lot of guys that are great
players play both sides of the ball.
Speaker 26 (54:00):
Yes, sir, I mean really, just like I mean, I
was a type of guy in high school. I played
both sides too, but just playing defense, you just got
to have a certain type of like swagger and confidence
about yourself. And it is different, I would say from
my point of view because obviously, like in high school,
I was scoring a lot of touchdowns and stuff like that.
But then you get here and it's not that and
it's a lot of learning and it's a learning curve
you got to go through. But at the end of
the day, I feel like, you know, playing defense is amazing.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
It's great.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
Back to the game last week and what Coach White
was not happy about. What are going to be the
points of emphasis that he talked to you guys about
that you're going to try to take to the practice
field before you go to Columbia.
Speaker 26 (54:35):
Just staying in our books and knowing our assignment. I
feel like you can't be too good at tackling either,
and that's just emphasis that. He also talked about just
tackling and being smart and stuff like that, So you know,
really just taking all that to the game, feeld once
we're done practicing, and yeah, I mean, we're hoping for
a different result when it comes to like the execution part.
Speaker 3 (54:54):
Of the game. You in this league, you get a
chance at a lot of big moments, whether it's individually,
is you know, getting the picks that you did, but
playing ranked teams ole, this was one. You guys were
in that one in the fourth quarter, player two away,
gotta get another chance. I don't know where South Carolina
was ranked today. I didn't check the poll, but they
were up to eleven, so I'm assuming they're still in it.
(55:15):
But uh, you're facing that kind of team just pretty
much week in and week out.
Speaker 26 (55:19):
Now, Yes, I definitely, I mean, and I feel like
that's what it is like with the SEC's is tough
and a lot of people don't understand it. It's a
battle every single weekend. So I mean, it gives you
something to look forward to at the end of the day,
all the film study, the film breakdown, the practicing. I
mean you get to go out there and showcase everything
on Saturdaysky, thanks for coming out, Yes, sir, thank you
for having.
