Speaker 2 (06:20):
Welcome back into the show. As we said, the Wildcats
are coming off that ten to three win at Auburn.
It was the eleventh consecutive season that Kentucky has won
at least one SEC road game. That extends what was
already a school record, and the three points that Auburn
scored was the lowest for the Tigers in a home
game in thirteen years. They previously had been shut out
(06:42):
by Georgia back in twenty twelve, and the Kentucky defense
had twelve tackles for loss for a negative sixty three yards,
seven quarterback sacks for a minus forty nine, added an interception,
four pass breakups, nine QB hurries, and a couple of
fourth down stops. So just a lot of numbers to
life for the guys on that side of the ball.
(07:03):
Cutter Bowli named co Freshman of the Week by the
Southeastern Conference today, Jalen Farmer named the co Offensive Lineman
of the Week, and Aiden la Ross named to the
Rays eight list for the Ray Guy Award for his
punting performance. And we could go on and on and
on with the superlatives in that game for especially a
lot of guys on the defensive side of the ball mark.
(07:25):
But had to be a pretty pleasant film session to
go through that one.
Speaker 12 (07:30):
Yeah, definitely, Tom, very good Monday. You know, just as
I said, just very much, appreciate our players. You know,
I wanted it badly for them. You know, they've been
working so hard. We've been close many times, and we
know we're getting better in a lot of areas, but
had to put it together in all three phases, and
(07:51):
you have to do that to go on the road
and win. Very tough environment down there. I give them
a lot of credit for the scene that it was
down there on Saturday night. Quite impressive. But anyway, our
players played really well in all three phases. We had
defensively pretty much complete game, special teams, very very good
(08:12):
entire game offense really you know, had a few plays
here there that were very you know, aggravating, but we
were able to overcome them. But they also moved the
ball and critical situations flipped the field. We played a
field position game the entire game, and he talked about aiden.
I mean he hit it inside to twenty six times.
I want to say three times inside to ten.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I think their average starting field position was inside their
own fifteen yard lin maybe the twelve yard line.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
It was.
Speaker 12 (08:40):
It was after kicks, you know, so if a factor
in the turnover. I'm not sure what the average was,
but on any time we kicked the ball off a
kickoff or punts, the average was twelve.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
We touched on several of the individual stars in our
postgame chat on Saturday night down there, but I think
we missed that deserves and mentioned was the seer Addison
who made his first start and doing so because of
an injury to run Nichols at that position, and so
you had to know Auburn would go at him early.
And what they did is line up their best receiver
(09:15):
out next to him, and they went right at him
on the first play and he came through and kind
of set the tone for the night.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (09:22):
I really am proud of nus here. He's a guy
that has had some ups and downs. If you know,
that's going to happen to most kids coming in. He's
overcoming some injury right now, playing through him because we
need him, and he's stepped up and helped us and
really played a very good game against some really talented
(09:42):
wide receivers. So was very good in the open field,
made sure tackles, broke on the ball, played confidently, executed
very well. So very proud of us here.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Outstanding game for your corners, I thought.
Speaker 12 (09:56):
Yeah, definitely, Yeah, well yeah, we yep. And you know,
I think everybody knows we needed to bounce back and
play better on the perimeter than we did the week prior,
and they really you know, took the challenge, accepted it
and owned it and went out there and played very well.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
So The Mark Show, it's presented by UK Healthcare we
have plenty to talk about a little later. We'll get

In the SEC, it just means more. But what is
it exactly is it's the fans, the students, the traditions,
the legends. It's passion to celebrate deeper breach. Father thinks smarter,
make an impact off the fields. That intelligible thing that

here at the stadium, and we're just about ready for kickoff,
score zero zero, And suddenly I'm in the mood for
a Coke zero sugar real Coke Taste zero sugar.

No, that's a winning combo. Yeah, Chris, refreshing that hits

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Brew, Welcome back into our show. Tony eey just standed
to be a note of a line that came from
Eric Crawford's column at WDRV dot com. And sometimes somebody
(13:52):
writes something really well that is just better than I
can try to say it, so I'll just share it
with you. Talking about Lross's plenty, he said Albert had
an average starting position somewhere between hopeless and the abyss,
so again an oppressive performance. Another guy we want to
talk about mark that came up big in this game,
and that was Fred Ferrier, who has been a starter
(14:15):
at times for you earlier this season certainly, and then
with guys like DJ Miller cam Miller coming on, he
lost some spot in some of his plays of the rotation,
but clearly stayed ready, made two key third and eleven
catches on your touchdown drug.
Speaker 12 (14:32):
Yeah, just so proud of Fred. Mentioned it to the
team today, just him and so many others like him,
you know that have just stayed with it. And like
you said, there's there's a rotation of wide receivers and
some guys are emerging, some young guys, but in a
game like that, we needed Fred. He's going to get
(14:53):
his reps in the game, and he certainly made the
most of it. You know, just two huge catches on
third down and up to chains moving and the one
was explosive play. I'm not sure how many yards it was.
It had to be in the twenty five yard range
or something like that. But yeah, very big play for us.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
By the way, if anybody that missed it on the
availability report, Tory Macklin, we didn't hear his name called
because he was out.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
He was out available, He was unavailable.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Your young quarterback. I mentioned this to you after the
game through that interception late in the first half. But
nothing seems to bother cutter, which is great. That's what
you wanted a quarterback. Because he came out. He was
six for six on the touchdown drive and actually completed
eleven straight before it ended any completion.
Speaker 12 (15:38):
Yeah, I didn't realize that until you told me that postgame.
You're always good for some good stats, you know, I'm
both good and bad, but a lot of good, and
that was a lot of good in that one. But
you know, it's just a testament to who he is,
what we've been talking about. He very much is very confident.
You cannot shake him.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
You know.
Speaker 12 (15:59):
I didn't even worry about it, you know, after that,
because I knew he would respond the right way. You know,
you knew it was going to be very difficult, difficult game,
and and you know he bounced back with eleven straight
that was quite impressive. And you know, it was interesting
after the game when we were crossing over between you
and I doing radio and him doing some press, I
caught him in a room, you know, in between there,
(16:20):
and I just had a you know, five minute conversation
with him, and I told him how proud I was
of him, because you know, it's easy.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
You get a lot of.
Speaker 12 (16:27):
Pats on the back when you throw for three hundred
yards and a bunch of touchdowns and things like that,
but in the sec on the road, it's going to
be brutally hard and against a really terrific defense. And
for him to hang in there and not play his best,
not have his best night, still be able to lead
us to a victory is you know, so good for
us and so good for him. He's so eager to learn,
(16:50):
like he's just eating it up, like right after the game,
just you know, you know, so excited about the team win,
not worried about the mistakes he made or the good
and the bad, just worried about the team winning and
worried about growing from it. The first thing he said is,
oh my gosh, I'm gonna grow so much from that.
And it's just you just gotta love that attitude.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Your two freshman receivers seemingly are that same approach because
Cam made the huge play by forcing the fumble, but
had three catches and he's getting He and Cutter have
a good thing going there on that slant and then DJ,
I think I'm right on this has caught every pass
thrown to it?
Speaker 5 (17:29):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Yeah, because you get the targeting number on the stat
sheet and I think he's caught everyone thrown his way.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
You know.
Speaker 12 (17:34):
He They're both just really playing at a high level
and uh, you know, really taking big steps this season
because you know, obviously we need them and they're both
playmakers and just both playing very confident but playing faster.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
You know. It is funny.
Speaker 12 (17:51):
We were on the on the field today on a Monday,
it's always a little lighter, lighter day on Monday, and
and going through plays and then between one of the
special teams period in the team period, I was talking
with Kendrick Law and we had DJ and Cam there
and we were we were me and me and Kendrick.
We were harassed and those two youngsters a little bit
(18:12):
about and Kay Law was teaching them. You know, we
were just teasing them about how you have to play fast, fast,
fast all the time, and when you're a young guy,
sometimes you just kind of ooze into it, you know,
and and you know, the game is really easy to
them when they're in high school and then they come
here and they they have the adjustment, but they've they're
learning super fast and you know, willing to take the
(18:34):
coaching and just getting better.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
So they've been a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Kendrick had the big touchdown on the screen against Tennessee,
but he had the it was not for as many yards,
but the touchdown was just as big. And the two
tight ends, like Willy came in motion and got a block,
cant of sealed his guy, so he had his path
to the throws where it needs to be, so he
gets to head downfield at top speed and then that
enables him to do what he did in space.
Speaker 12 (18:58):
It really was it was really good timing. I'm trying
to think which which guy came in motion, whether it
was Catus or Willie Willy. Willy came in motion, but
he picked off the one guy that was triggering. They
were kind of reading it, you know, felt like, you know,
we may be running that, but still it's not much
different than a than a well blocked run play. Once
we get the ball in his hands, you know, we
(19:18):
got the blocks necessary and k Laude, you know, he
kind of does what he does. He makes a couple
of people miss and he's so strong and uh, you know,
he wasn't going to be denied getting that ball to
the end zone. And you know, he's one of those
guys that also deeply cares cares about the team, and
he's so passionate and you know the play in overtime
versus Texas that he got to the three. He's the
(19:40):
type of guy that feels like I should have leaped
that it should have done something, you know what I
mean to get it in the end zone. So you know,
I love his attitude and his mindset.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
And Dick Abriel caught up to him on the field
after the win and he uh noted that he's a
former Alabama guy. So winning at Auburn extra beating.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Yeah, that's that's true.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah, definitely, but certainly all wildcat. Right now, we'll get
to more of a coach doops. We'll got to some
of your questions and comments when we come right back.
It's the Mark Stoop Show. Presented by UK Healthcare on
the UK Sports Network.

For the countdown to kickoff coverage of Kentucky and Florida
on Saturday. Christy Thomas, Logan Stenberg, Ricky Lumpkin. They'll be
set up outside Gate four at Kroger Field for the
Jack Burford Chevrolet Countdown to Kickoff show that'll get started
at five thirty Eastern time, and then we will let
count it down to the kickoff at seven point thirty
(22:50):
with the Jeffcorro Dick Gabriel all right here on these
UK Sports Network stations. TV coverage will be on the
SEC Network and again seven thirty Eastern time kickoff for
the Cats and the Gators and Florida will come in
off a tough loss to Georgia and their big rivalry
(23:12):
game this past weekend. We'll start with a question here
from Chris or not so much a question is just
a comment that you can elaborate on. Coach Chris sends
in this to a UK Sports network he said he
married into an Auburn family and lives in Florida, so
he said these two games mean a little extra. He's
thanks you for the bragging rights for this past week
and wishes you good luck so he doesn't have to
(23:33):
listen to the Gator fans if you could win this week, is.
Speaker 12 (23:35):
That Chris Chris, Well, Chris, Hopefully we can make one
fan extremely.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Happy right, it's right, it's right.
Speaker 12 (23:43):
So I know we'll make a lot more happy if
we can get number two here. So now i'm and
it was a big win and hopefully we'll get this
second one for Chris and for many others. You know,
our approach each and every week on Monday is to
you know, win the we can. You know, be prepared
and embrace that process and how hard it is to
(24:04):
put yourself in a position to win. So reloaded it today.
You know, obviously it feels good coming in after a victory.
Our players really deserve it and needed it. But you know,
each and every week it's a new challenge. And Florida
is a very good football team, loaded with a bunch
of talent. You know that they've also been searching for
some wins and some really close calls. But it's hard.
(24:27):
You know, it's hard, and you see it around this league.
You're going to see it more and more how difficult
it is. They've been very, very close. They played a
super game against a big rival of theirs this past
week against Georgia to a four point game and it
could have gone either way. So you know, they're they're
very talented, like you would expect a Florida team and
(24:48):
you know, we have another great opportunity here at home.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Handled Texas earlier this season.
Speaker 12 (24:53):
Yeah, they sure did, and you know they're just they're
more than capable of it, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
DJ Lagway, the quarter back, had his big breakout game
against you guys last season. I think it was his
first start and had a tremendous game and their win
down in games will how will he test your defense
versus others you've seen this season?
Speaker 12 (25:13):
Just like you know you mentioned the Texas game, he
played very good there at home, and you know he
Dj is just very talented. He has the arm strength
to make any throw on the field. We all know
that he's very good on the move and he's a big,
strong guy.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
So he's explosive.
Speaker 12 (25:28):
In the run game. You know, last year, I want
to say they first played the game. They play action,
try to take a shot, we got it all covered
and you know, and playing it really well and then.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
Pulls it down and runs for twelve yards. You know.
Speaker 12 (25:42):
So he's one of those those guys that can do
that to everybody. So we're just gonna have to play
great team defense.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Let's go to the Clark's pupping shot phone line. David,
you're up with coach doops. What do you have for us?
Speaker 22 (25:53):
Hey, coach, congratulations man, thank you, great win, big win.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Thank you.
Speaker 22 (26:01):
I'm a season ticket holder, as you know, and coach
I called you a couple of weeks ago and told
you there were still some peaches out there to be
picked from the tree man, and we got one Saturday night.
We got four more peaches to pick.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Buddy, I'm telling you, yep.
Speaker 22 (26:17):
Your team seems like they believe and they haven't quit
playing hard. When I was a judge, I had a
staff attorney. He went to school to Florida. So when
the game doesn't end the way it should, I get
a text message, judge, and I'm a coach, and I'm
sure hoping not to get a text mess Saturday night.
Speaker 12 (26:36):
Well, David, I hope you get to send the text,
but no. I appreciate the support, David, and you know,
being a season ticket holder and being there to support
our team, And you did say that a few weeks ago,
and you could tell that the team is working extremely hard.
They do believe, and we got a ticket one week
(26:58):
at a time. So we're very excited about this opportunity.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
David, thank you for the call. It's a question from
Mark and it's about a rule that this came up
in the game. So but it broke in your favor,
and if you can't comment on this, comming on this,
you're gonna be Nobody said asks why are running backs
allowed to use their heads helmets slash helmets as weapons?
Defenders can get hurt. To any talk of targeting rule
(27:24):
change with an offensive player being penalized for.
Speaker 12 (27:27):
Targeting, Yeah, no, there's not any talk of that to
my knowledge, but you know, certainly a player can get
hurt that way.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
And it's tough on the defender. This happened to you
guys in the Florida game a few years ago. I
can't I want to say it was was a TJ. Carter.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
That was one of the worst. Sorry, one of the worst.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
But you know, he's making a big hit and the
quarterback bends over as he's in his tackling motion.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
That was the worst.
Speaker 12 (27:54):
And I'm not being critical because it wasn't the official's fault.
That the rules have since then, So at that point
in time, point blank, if the Crown hit Crown, it
was a penalty. Arc player was actually getting held and
was totally off balance falling down on third and eighteen
(28:14):
and fell into his helme. And I know the play
exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
The and the offensive guys instinct is to drop down again.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
It was totally by accident.
Speaker 12 (28:24):
What happened there was totally by accident, and they did
away with it that way. Now, I was quite confident
on the field that that play would be overturned. So
I was really worried about, you know, accepting the penalty
and they'd be backed up and getting ready for the
next would have been first and long from them from
about the five or six yard line, and so you know,
(28:47):
there's four indicators now with the targeting and so there's
there's definitely a lot less targeting than you used to have.
So I was pretty confident that that would get overturned.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
The game on Saturday, I thought the tackling was very good.
It didn't feel in watching it in real time, and
our call didn't feel like there were many misstackles. Is
that how you guys saw it?
Speaker 12 (29:11):
Yeah, definitely that, you know, one of the better games
we played. You know, certainly the Texas game was up
there as well, But guys, in great position. And you know,
I sat here last Monday, I think I talked about
and I said, week the week, we either talk about
being exposed and missing tackles and what's the problem or
how good we did it, you know, And you know, again,
some of it is sheer talent. Let's be honest. I mean,
(29:32):
some of these guys we play are gonna make you miss.
Our guys make people miss all the time. I mean,
look at in the touchdown. I mean, it's going to happen.
And that's a dynamic defense. So we play against very
talented players. They're going to make you miss. But you
know we're better when we have guys in great position.
You have some like Nasier that we talked about that
is flat out in the open field and you have to,
(29:54):
you know, for us to be successful, for us to
be good, you have to make those tackles, and he did.
But then there's other time times where when you have
great position on the ball, there's three or four people
you haven't contained. You could take your shot and you
could be more firm and understand the leverage of the game.
And you know, we're going to be better in that way.
And when you know, we absolutely play our best when
we have great position on the football.

Welcome back into the show. It's presented by UK Healthcare
And let's go back to the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. Ryan,
you have a question for a coach, dous.
Speaker 6 (33:50):
A Poppliman. I want to thank coach. I want to
thank coaching the boys, for the Yankee for the win.
I'm about down here in Florida where my football gear,
where I go and listen to a bunch of trash
talking from these Gator fans. But I'll be at the
game Saturday night, and man, I sure thank you. And
I love the blitzing on the long seconds and the
(34:12):
long third downs, and I hope we keep that up,
especially on the younger quarterbacks. Man, I think we get them,
We get them on third and long and second and
long and just throw that pressure at them before them
receivers can get, you know, to where they're supposed to be.
I love seeing that the special teams have been outstanding.
Keep that up, and I wouldn't mind seeing that offense
get a little more aggressive. But you're the coach and
(34:35):
you just you just get his imposition to win and
go Cats.
Speaker 12 (34:39):
Thanks Ryan, appreciate it. Thanks again for your support, and
look forward to having you up here this weekend. Definitely,
special teams played lights out in that game. That that's
for sure. Our kickers have been really solid. We didn't
even talk about it, Tom, I mean we got on
the board first with a what forty eight yard or
right down in the middle. I mean, it was perfect kick,
(35:00):
and then we talked about aiden and the punting, and
then on the kickoff team they tried to return it
and who was that c Scott. He tackled him on
the I want to say the eight yard line. So
that was a huge play as well, pitting them back there.
So yeah, we've been playing good and you're right Ryan,
the conversions on third down offensively we're big. We got
(35:21):
some converted some third and lungs, which is hard to do.
And then conversely, we did a nice job of getting
off the field. We did get very good pressure. I
thought Brad in the defensive staff did a great job
of mixing it up. We brought many different kinds of pressures.
We brought all out pressure a few times. In particular,
it was the second to the last played the game
(35:42):
Tom on that sack we went we went with a
pretty aggressive blitz on that and got the sack and
basically iced the game there. And but then we did
some zone pressures and you know, just mixed it up
a lot, and you know, had a really good plan
and executed very well, you know, and then offensively, again,
we did a very good job.
Speaker 5 (36:02):
That's a that's a good defense.
Speaker 12 (36:04):
Now they haven't given up a heck of a lot
of points all year to anybody, and so I thought
we moved it very well. Definitely a few drives that
you know that that we can be you know better
for sure, and you know you want to get more points.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
The other big.
Speaker 12 (36:18):
Drive that we didn't talk about, but the the the
interception at the end of the end of the first
half was definitely could have been a big momentum switch
for us. But you know, we we held them to
a field goal, and then we came right back out,
you know, on the third quarter and had a great drive.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
So showed a lot of resolve there as well.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Sean kind of follows up on that with a question
to at UK Sports Network or comment. Really he loved
the aggression of getting after the quarterback on third downs especially,
So we'll make this our Alumni Hall Fan question of
the week. What impressed you the most about the Kentucky
defensive performance in the win at Auburn? Said The answers
into at Alumni Hall UK on X and you could
(36:59):
have a chance to win a gift card courtesy of
Alumni Hall. Speaking of good defensive place, Maxwell Harriston got
his first pick as an NFL player last night of
Patrick Mahomes late in Buffalo's win.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (37:13):
It kind of helped seal the game, did it not. Yeah,
that's good for Maxwell. I saw him a couple of
weeks ago. He grabbed me on the field before in
one of our games. They were during their bye week,
and it was so good to see him in that
bright smile, that's for sure, because he was smiling ear
to ear and so good to see him. He brings
so much positive energy.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
I saw a note to Gabriel, our sideline reporter, posted
where he got a quick interview with Maxwell during our
broadcast whatever game that was he was here for, and
he asked him about was he close to getting back
on the field, and he said yes, get your popcorn ready.
So he doesn't lack for confidence.
Speaker 5 (37:51):
No, he does not. That's good.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Speaking of confidence, I'm guessing Jalen Farmers playing certainly with
that co offensive lineman of the week.
Speaker 13 (38:01):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
You can talk about the old line as a group,
but in particular, what did Jalen do especially well in
this game.
Speaker 12 (38:07):
Jalen has been really terrific all year. He's very physical,
he moves people. Uh and these are some very strong,
talented defensive lineman. But he's been a great leader for us.
He is really something else. Just can't say enough good
things about Jalen, But really the entire offensive line we
(38:27):
are playing so much better given Cutter at that time
and that confidence to sit in the pocket and go
through his progressions. Certainly, there are times when there is pressure,
but everybody, I mean, look at what we didn you know,
I mean, it happens. I mean, you're you're, you're you know.
People are creative, they're bringing lots of you know, exotic blitzes.
You have talented players. There's going to be pressure, but
(38:47):
by far and away, you know, we're getting better and better.
And I think they had I think we gave up
a couple sacks in that game, you know, but overall
the old line's playing very good.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Receiver are seemingly developing a little chemistry week by week
more and more with Cutter, like of one play on
Saturday where Katis just basically moved horizontally as the protection
was starting to break down and Cutter gets out of
the pocket. But Kaddis is just moving parallel to him
and Cutter's able to see him and hit him for
a big play.
Speaker 12 (39:18):
Well, we've had a lot of big plays. You and
I have talked about that last week as well. You know,
he's done a really good job off schedule, both the
receivers and the quarterback. But you know, I'm more impressed
with you know, in rhythm and in on schedule, just
going through the progression, having the time to go, you know, one, two, three,
And Cutter made some really good decisions this Saturday. You know,
(39:40):
it's it's really hard.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
You know, you have a.
Speaker 12 (39:43):
Play and you have the primary you know, maybe your
first second, but you know, things change, you know, and
you have to have that vision.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
You have to have the.
Speaker 12 (39:51):
Ability to see what's going on and make throws.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
And Cutter's really.
Speaker 12 (39:56):
Doing that and he's you know, really making some jumps
for a young guy rather quickly, so that you know,
really gets me excited.

to a question from the social media feed. It's from
Larry down in Corbin and he he says, congrats on
the big win. What challenges will Florida bring on Saturday.
Speaker 12 (43:20):
Yeah, they're they're a good football team. I know, you
know a lot of people just want to look at
records and think, oh, you know, you should win that
or this whatever. I mean, it's it's tough each and
every week, and I think most people can understand that.
Speaker 5 (43:34):
Now to follow SEC football, Well.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Look at the team Mississippi State, which is trying to
elevate their program, and they had a bunch of games
to go right down to the wirel like last week,
and they won this one.
Speaker 5 (43:45):
No, and we don't play them, but they're a darn
good team. I watched crossover tape all the time. And
believe me, they're a very good football team. But Florida
is just good. Listen.
Speaker 12 (43:55):
You know when was the last time Florida lack talent? Yeah,
you know what I mean. So they have dynamic players.
I think the best running back we've played all year.
You know, they have wide receivers that, you know, great skill.
It's hard to tell. A couple of them are a
little bit hurt. So who's playing who's not. But they
have you know, they're probably six wide receivers that are
(44:18):
dangerous and you know in DJ you know as a
guy that can hurt you at any moment, you know,
with his legs and throwing the ball defensively, a bunch
of big guys. But you know, listen, you know how
it is in this league. It's it's really each and
every week you're going to play very good opponents. It's
really about us and our preparation and doing everything we
(44:38):
can to put ourselves in a position to be successful
on Saturday. That doesn't change. I don't care who you're playing,
you know, So you know, for us, it's about our
preparation and what we do during the week, keep on stacking,
you know, little victories having a good Monday.
Speaker 5 (44:52):
Let's have a great.
Speaker 12 (44:53):
Tuesday, and you know, can't get too far in front
of ourselves. You know, Tuesday's a big physical practice for us.
We got to have a great right day tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
The challenge of a running quarterback is always a difficult
one for a defensive coordinator. Lagway gives you that, like
you see so often in this league, and like Cutter
is giving the teams you play against.
Speaker 12 (45:12):
Yeah, I mean, Cutter has been very effective again Saturday,
just getting out of some trouble, getting those aggravating yards,
keeping the sticks moving. It's important and you know you
see it. You watch football all the time. I mean,
you have to make some plays off schedule. Everybody does,
whether it's the NFL, high school or college.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
While we're talking about running with the ball, let's talk
about the two guys you played at running back Saturday.
One seth mcgawan back off, having missed the previous game
with his injury. I thought in practice last week he
looked fresher and he ran the ball well. But it
was just I mean, that's the number four defense in
the nation against the run, and they played like it.
(45:53):
And I mean a three yard game was a good
job in a lot of cases. He finally got a
chance to break one and get out of space, and.
Speaker 12 (46:00):
It was I mean, he You're right. We had efficient runs,
you know, you know, you don't want them to be three,
but you could take four or five on first downs.
And I thought offensively, we did a really good job
of moving the sticks, getting out and pinning them. Even
if we're not getting points. Of course, we want to
get more points. But as you just mentioned, defensively playing
(46:21):
a very good team, you know, so I thought we
were still efficient, and I thought we bush did a
really good job of staying patient in the run game.
I mean, yeah, everybody, we all want to get more aggressive.
But we are throwing the ball more than we have
because why because we've been effective at it. We've been
able to protect and cutters making really good decisions, and
our quarterbacks and our receivers are making good catches. So
(46:43):
of course we want to continue to improve the past game.
I mean, people think that I'm just run, run, run,
I mean, believe me, we could throw it all day
if we're efficient with it, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (46:52):
So to me, I just want to move the chains.
Speaker 12 (46:55):
I want to score points, and we are getting better.
I know everybody, you know, we all want to make
that happen overnight. But I have a ton of confidence
in what we're doing. I have, you know, a ton
of confidence in Cutter being the guy that could lead us,
you know, in that direction. And I feel like we're
getting much better. But you always have to have the balance,
you know, you have to have a threat of the
(47:16):
run game.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
The other guy I want to talk about, and we
mentioned this on the post game on Saturday, but for
folks who missed it, I thought had a really understated
good game.
Speaker 5 (47:28):
You would put.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
Dante Dalladell in because he has more size in some
of those third long situations obvious past situations, and Auburn's
very aggressive defensively, and it's one thing if to an
offensive lineman in that situation, it's kind of a wrestling
match with the guy that you're going up against. When
you're the running back, you're going to see a guy
that's probably coming clean frequently and is at top speed
(47:50):
and you got to catch him and keep him from
getting to your quarterback. And I don't think he missed
a one.
Speaker 12 (47:54):
Yeah, And you're right, Tom, I mean, you got a
man up in that situation and Auburn makes no bones
about it. They're putting seven up, They're coming, they are
all out blitzing, and I thought we didn't as good
a job as we have in a long time with
the protection and making good decisions. Late Cutter took a
(48:15):
sack on one that that we had, so we had
a well that was a little different. That was a
little play action role pass that we were trying to
put a dagger and I'm trying to throw it there,
and you know, it backfired on us. But on the
on the zero blitzes on second and long, third and long,
it was, you know, somewhat predictable they would cut a
guy out here and there, but we had opportunities on
(48:37):
the perimeter. He held it an extra moment and took
a sack on one of them. But they were bringing everybody,
and you know, but earlier in the game we were
very effective in that and converting some of those, which
is hard to do.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah, mention of the two third and eleven's on the
touchdown drive, there was also a big third and ten.
Speaker 5 (48:54):
Yeah who that was yeah, k log, Yeah, it.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Gave you another first down. It is what led to
punting them inside their twenty exactly.
Speaker 5 (49:03):
That was in an all out pressure as well.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
But I don't know what the national conversion rate is.
Would it's say third and eight or more, but it
can't be very good.
Speaker 5 (49:12):
Now. You guys were very not at it.
Speaker 12 (49:14):
We looked at it during the bye week of the league,
and you know the percentage was extremely low.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
On third and.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
Loan Kentucky and Florida seven thirty on Saturday night at
kroger Field. SEC Network has the TV coverage. We'll have
the radio coverage starting at five thirty against the Gators.
Larry sent it a question earlier about the challenges from
the Gators and he's from Corbett, which gives us a
chance to give a little love to Gerard Smith, who
(49:41):
had several tackles early in that game.
Speaker 12 (49:43):
Yeah, Drawd is getting better and better, very active, you
know that the line. You know, we're you know, have
the luxury of rotating those guys and playing a lot
of guys. And he's another one that's really done a
nice job, very active, getting better, getting more confident, and
so you know, excited about him as well. Another great
young man, just great attitude, work ethic, you know, so
(50:05):
he's doing great.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
One last break to get to we'll come back. Get
a question here from a list on social media that
we'll get to when we return. If you have a
quick question, there's time to take another call or question
as well in our final segment, which is coming up
here on the UK Sports Network.

Speaker 2 (53:26):
Saturday Kentucky Games presented by aih More of Appalaca. That's
Kentucky and the Florida Gators, and it'll be a seven
thirty Eastern time kick coverage. We'll start at five thirty
on our UK Sports Network stations. And the Gators coming
back into Lexington in the month of November, by my count,
(53:48):
for the first time since nineteen ninety and for those
of you that go back as far as I do,
those were the days when that Bermuda grass would freeze
and be brown when Florida and Vandy came out in
for those November games every other year. So good to
get the Gators back in Lexington for a November game.
And I think it's supposed to be cool, but not
(54:12):
two frigid for the guests from Florida coming up on Saturday.
Coach Kersey back in the seventies, Mark would change sides
of the field and he put the Gators in the
shady side of the stadium when they came up in November.
They didn't like that much.
Speaker 12 (54:26):
No, I don't think we'll do that this week, but
you know, a little cool breeze would be all right.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
From our buddy Dick Gabriel. An update from over at
Historic Memorial Coliseum. The UK women have w I've gone
on a twelve ozer run and I lead Moreheads State
sixteen thirteen. It is the opener for coach Kenny Brooks
and company. And I noticed you didn't jump up on
the table today.
Speaker 12 (54:46):
Like coach coach Skinner. Yeah, he's what the great job
he does. Congratulations to him and his team. They're really
quite fun to watch. It was on in our office.
Speaker 5 (54:58):
When was that Sunday, I want to say yesterday?
Speaker 2 (55:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (55:00):
Yeah, we're always in the office and it was on
in the different TVs throughout the building and you always
get a chance to get a little glimpse at them,
and you know, he's done a remarkable job. And yeah,
he jumped up on the table to get him the
pack memorial. I guess right before my press conference today,
I didn't think I had the athleticism to get up
there on that desk.
Speaker 5 (55:20):
I don't think anybody wanted to see.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
That question at UK Sports Network from Frank and Florida
has an interim coach now, and he asked, is it
any more challenging to prepare for a team that has
made that kind of a change, because they could make
some tweaks to what they're doing, But have they made
any significant changes?
Speaker 12 (55:39):
They haven't made any significant changes. There's coaches on that
staff that have been with Billy for a while. You know,
certainly they may you know, morph into some of the
things that DJ's comfortable with or try to simplify in
certain areas just to make sure they execute at a
high level. But there also can throw caution to the wind,
and you know what I mean, do you know, throwing
(55:59):
some chicken trick plays or you name it. But you
know they're a well coached team. They were when Billy
was there and it didn't work out, but he assembled
a very good football team. He has a good staff.
You know, they looked very good last week as we
talked about, they had every opportunity to beat a great
Georgia team. So it's a good football team.
Speaker 2 (56:18):
A new name that popped up for the defense for
the Wildcats on Saturday got in on a sack, Lorenzo Cowen.
Speaker 12 (56:25):
Yeah, Lorenzo has been a guy that's been coming along.
You know, he's another youngster that's been working and getting
reps and you know, getting better with every practice, and
so we like him.
Speaker 5 (56:36):
You know, we like a lot of these young guys.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
We've talked about CJ works on that side of the
ball before, the young wide receivers. A lot of Steven
Soul's second year guy was he only got credit for
half a sack.
Speaker 12 (56:45):
It seemed like he was he's disrupted deserved more. Yeah,
he's very disruptive. He's very quick off the ball. He
plays relentless. He has one speed, you know, he goes
fast all the time. Sometimes we're trying to go good
against good in practice and late in the year like this.
I mean, I don't need anybody falling into the quarterback
or anything like that. And he's like always ripping off
the ball and I'm like, you know, easy here, you
(57:06):
know you're right, Yeah, slow your roll a little bit here.
So but you know you love that. You'd rather say
whoa than get you up?
Speaker 2 (57:12):
And you have some some exciting young guys. Cam Dooley
made it hit. Was it Tennessee or Texas? Where we
put the helmet right on the goal, right of the
ball the goal line. Yeah, so and uh you know
Carter from Paduca. So yeah, yeah, a lot of good
exciting again guys, Mark, thank you much.
Speaker 5 (57:28):
Best, thank you very much, appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
It's a seven thirty Eastern time kick and you can
tune in the pregame coverage here on the UK Radio
Network starting at five thirty Eastern time with Christy Logan
and Ricky. We'll see you then for Kentucky against Florida.
This is the UK Sports Network.
