Headrick and tonight they're on location at the Drakes and

Brooks of UK women's basketball and my broadcast partner for
(05:42):
the UK men's games, the Ghost Jack Gibbons and Coach
Brooks and the UK women at a big win at
Buffalo yesterday and the return to her home region for
Clara Strak. She had a career high twenty seven points.
The UK men's soccer team had a big win, went
to penalty, but they defeated Coastal Carolina and advanced in
(06:03):
the CUSA Tournament. So they at which Kentucky is hosting
this week out at the Bell Soccer Complex, so they
move on. Coach Getner at Kentucky Volleyball with a huge
win before a sold out crowd yesterday over Tennessee at
historic Memorial Conliseum. So a pretty good weekend all the
way around for UK Athletics, to which Mark Stoops and
his guys made a big contribution. Congratulations, thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Tom. Yet it was a fun night, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
It looked like a pretty festive locker room.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Some of the Yeah, that's out of doubt. You know,
the guys have been working really hard, as we've talked
about the last couple of weeks, and doing some better things,
and certainly it came to fruition here this past Saturday.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
How did go at practice today?
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Good practice? Everybody's good. We obviously challenged guys to continue
what they've been doing, and that's having a great approach
to the week starting on Monday. And it was a
little chilli out there today, so we went inside. Actually
the fields were covered to get some growth on the
grass for the end of the season here, so we
went in the indoor today. But we'll be back outside
the rest of the week.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
And you had some bad news to report at your
weekly news conference regarding injuries for a couple of starters,
Sam Green and Jordan love It. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
I just feel absolutely horrible for those players. You know,
obviously two of the best players we have on defense,
but but also great leaders, great young men have worked
really hard and unfortunately their their season will be over.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
And Sam was playing his best football and you figured
them out for what he did down at Auburn.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Yeah, he was player of the game at Auburn. Very active,
plays extremely hard, was very productive, just playing really good
and he's been one of our guys for a long
long time. So I just really my heart breaks for them. Uh,
you know, they worked really hard, and you know, with
Jordan being a senior, that's that's tough loss for.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Us and for Jordan now nine career picks, most recently
coming down there to steal the win at Auburn, and
that's I think just outside the top ten all time
at UK. And you said Alex Safari is a little iffy,
but sounds like he'll be back at some point.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, you know, let's hope he has an injury that
will you know, take you know sometime you'll be very
questionable for this week and you know, probably fifty to
fifty the following week as well.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
You have on that side of the ball, been able
to work in a lot of young guys at really
about every level. You've been playing, rotating six up front
and occasionally one or two more, but particularly the linebacker,
your line, and then the back end and so guys
are it's not like you're putting in somebody cold.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
No, those guys are playing. We have a ton of experience.
Cam Dooley will get to start to talk to Cam today.
And obviously none of us want to ever see any
injuries or anything like that, but you and I have
talked about it over the year. Again, you don't want
any injuries, but you are, you know, excited for the
next man up because Cam is a very good football player.
(09:09):
He's he's been working really hard. We look at him
as a starter. He's going to get much more opportunity
here this week to prove himself and you know, I'm
excited to watch him play and I'm confident that he'll
play well.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Had a fumble recovery Saturday and played Jordan got hurt
early in the game first series, I think, so basically
can't play the whole game.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Yeah he did. Cam's Cam's been really solid for us.
Grant stepped in and did some really good things, you know,
this past week, and it's been getting more and more confident,
So you know, we're you know, when you get injuries
it helps develop you know, some players for the future
as well.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
And as far as Sam Spot, You've got Cam Olds,
there's made some place for you already. Souls. Yeah, lorenzo'callen
is coming on.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
We do we we definitely have some guys that can
step in at that position. You know what you what
you miss with Sam is that heartbeat. You know he's
that guy just you know, just playing so strong, you know,
making things happen, great energy. But you know, we have,
we do have a lot of confidence in the other
guys and that's where you know, that is a position
where there's some decent depths. So that's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
This is a senior day, last home game for all
of these guys. I remember one of the great stories
was Jacob Tammy played in his last home game and
went back out on the field after it was over,
still in uniform, just to drop down to it to
just soa get in one last time. So it's a meeting,
really meaningful day for those guys who have you know,
(10:37):
put a lot of blood and sweat in out on
the field here and the practice fields as well. And
I know this group you've been especially close to it seems.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Yeah, yeah, very much. So you know, it be twenty
five guys playing. There's a lot of support staff that
have done a lot and that dedicate a lot as well.
But for the twenty five players, you know, some of
the guys that have been here a long time, you know,
four years, five years, and you know some you know
with the transfer portal, not so many. But it's a
great group. They're great leaders. You could tell by the
(11:08):
way they're playing down the stretch. They care about this university,
they care about each other, and a really good group,
very mature group. So we're going to miss them. I'm
glad we've played well, you know, this past week at home.
To continue to bring out the great fans and support
these guys during some daylight hours for a change, and
(11:29):
hopefully enjoy a nice Saturday afternoon. It's going to warm
up a bit, so that's a nice thing.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
It is the one thirty Eastern time kick for Kentucky
and Tennessee Tech. Back when I first started coming to
games with my dad at the new Stadium in seventy three,
if they played in the afternoon, it was at one thirty.
They played at night in October it was at seven. Yeah,
and it was always pretty much the way it was
our Alumni Hall fan question of the week. We're talking
(11:54):
about some of the young guys. Tell us who which
of the young guys a first or second player will
say has impressed you the most of this season and
let us know. And if you send in an answer
to at Alumni Hall UK on X you could have

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Please welcome back into our show for this Monday. Couple
of other notes from the win over Florida, third straight
win on Kentucky's home field in this series. That hadn't
(15:36):
happened since nineteen fifty five. Largest margin of victory in
an SEC game since a thirty eight point win over
Vanderbilt in nineteen ninety eight. Kentucky did not have to
punt in this game, and that had not happened since
November of twenty twenty one. As we welcome coach Stoops
back into the program here, you had David Rayner named
(15:59):
player of the week on the defensive side for the
SEC today and he's been very disruptively.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
He's been really good and he wasn't even the team
defensive player game, so I had to add him on
late and make sure he was co you know, with Tye.
You know, so ty had a really good game as well,
but heck, with that kind of defensive performance, you could
probably name quite a few other guys. So, yeah, they
really played good. That's two weeks in a row really
good defense. And you know, I think the effort has
(16:27):
been consistent, but the execution is getting better and better
as the season goes on, and that's a good thing
on both sides of the ball. I thought we really
got off to a fast start, you know, even offensively
with some good you know, critical third down conversions and
you know, played with the lead and you know, so
it was just fun.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
The Raider got a pick, he set up a pick
yeah for Tye, which was his third of the season.
Cutter Bowley once again Freshman of the Week in the SEC.
He is, as we say, it seems like we're sitting
here and talk about this every week. He's just you see,
ways he gets better each game.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
I mean, he he did, you know, so many good
things and really if you you know, you just look
at the stats, it won't overwhelm you. But he really
didn't have to throw the ball at all in the
second half. We actually started because I was even thinking
through this and you know, and buzzed it again today
prior to my press conference because I felt like, you know,
(17:24):
I'm like, wow, you know, threw for almost one hundred
I think one sixty eight or whatever it was, one seventy.
It felt like it could have been three hundred, so easy.
But we started the second half. I want to say
we attempted to throw the ball. He pulled it down
and scrambled once. But if I want to say five
or six or six of seven and then we got
in you know, the high red and ran it in
(17:45):
and at that point you didn't want to screw around, right,
You felt like that could be a dagger, and you
wanted to get that score to start the second half.
And it was a seven and a half minute drive
and we mix it up throwing in running to get
down their score. And then the next drive we rip
off the long run and that about put it away.
You really didn't even have to throw it after that.
(18:07):
But but prior to that, man, you know, you take
away the interception at the end of the first half,
and it was it was really impressive. He threw the
ball in such good locations that in the and the
guys are starting to make you know, tough catches look easy,
like like Hester's, you know, like Patterson's. You know, that
(18:31):
was a heck of a throw on the back shoulder,
you know, for a running back to make that adjustment
so and make it look so effortless in the throw.
The way he set that up and threw it on
the back shoulder was super impressive.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
That's the one I wanted to talk to you about
because Jeff Pacorrel and our broadcast immediately went to talking
about how cutter looked off the safety, you know, he
kept his eyes on the safety to make sure the
safety didn't release to get over and defend Jason.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
It was actually a corner in the corner in the
safety they were and they drifted a little inside, and
he looked them off and he had the confidence. Now
you're still talking about a very elite athlete there and
you know, maybe three yards of space, and I mean
he ripped it in there with a ton of confidence,
I thought. In the two minute drive. You know, also
(19:16):
it was Jamoury Macklin after the fumble the muff pump
put him back in there in the two minute drive
in the corner route that he threw to him, the
one he threw to Hester was impressive, and then the
corner route that set up the touchdown. In the first
two minute drive. We ended up with three of them,
I think, but with a minute and mint and thirty
we scored there. But that was a heck of a
throw to Jamory Macklin and it was really good to
(19:39):
see j Max bounce back and and us pick him
up because that was a bad muff give up seven points,
gave up some momentum there, But you know what the
team responded extremely strong and he bounced back. So that
was great to see.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Let me give you a couple of Cutter numbers. You're
gonna like look these up today. Last two games, the
wins that were Albret in Florida. You've been in third
and seven or more thirteen times. That's not a high
percentage situation. No, seven of thirteen.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Yeah, impressive those situations really impressive conversion. Yeah, and you
know in that game we were you may have his stats.
I don't have him in front of me, but uh,
the overall third down conversion rate was super high. We
were super effective in third medium and a couple we
didn't convert. We you know, another big dagger was two
fourth down conversions and it was the first draft, first
(20:28):
draft of the second half was you know, is a
from a defensive coach. You know, when you get a
long drive and you have somebody convert two fourth downs
against you, it's kind of heartbreaking.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
And Cutter on third down all third down passes sixty
eight point six percent right now, and there's one guy
ahead of him in the sec standings and the guy's
thrown like five passes completed four So essentially he's best
of the sec and I.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Mean when you're when you're up around seventy percent in general,
you're impressed with that, let alone on third down.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
They're gonna get to a break. It's the Mark Stoop Show,
presented by UK Healthcare. We'll get to some of your
questions when we come right back. Here are the UK

Welcome back into our show Saturday's Kentucky Tennessee Tech Game.
It is presented by your Kentucky Select Chevy Dealers, Fine
New Roads.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Yeah, another thing I wanted to mention was again thanking
the crowd. I thought it was a fantastic atmosphere Saturday.
I sat here with you, Tom and acknowledged that last Monday,
prior to the game, it was important for us to
play good at home, you know, and the fans have
been loyal. I said it leading into it. Another puts
pressure on you, but you know what we needed to
(23:53):
and the fans have been loyal. They've been there, they've
been showing up. And I make no bones about it
that it was important, important to play well, and I'm
glad we did. It was a great celebration to honor
and salute the veterans as well and play well in
their honor. So we thank them so much for their service.
And that's the least we can do, but it was
(24:15):
a great atmosphere and want to acknowledge them again with
a big day coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
I know that it's the videos with some of your
players that have members of their family that are in
the military that pay contribute to them. Saw something where
Brad White talked about it. He comes from a military family,
I guess, or certain military connections in his family, and
so it's when you have that it's even extra meaningful.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
No, it definitely is the sacrifice that are made by
so many people, and in the people in our big family,
that football family. You know, it affects. It affects you
in different ways and like I said, we greatly appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
It's got to some of the questions. We'll start with
one from Ken on social media at UK Sports Network
said he enjoyed the hurry up offense that we saw
on Saturday night one drive. I know you pretty much
went hurry up for most of the drive and kept
your guys out on the field and went down and
scored a touchdown. He asks if we'll see more of
it going forward.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yes, and you know we definitely will. You have seen
that at different points throughout this year. Maybe not for
the entirety of the drive like you saw this last week,
but it comes with execution. It comes with moving the football.
So if we're having success with that, we're not going
to let him off the hook. We're going to continue
with that. And we did it Saturday and it was
(25:31):
an important touchdown the one we got there, and we
liked it. We have been working on it, and again
it comes down to us. Our execution has been much better.
You know, it's nice to see our execution catch up
with our effort. You know, the effort has been consistent,
but our execution is finally catching up with that.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
And you know quarterback completing around seventy percent of his passes. Yeah,
it helps fuel the fire for the hurry up.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Yeah, that's going to help with all of it.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Running game was really strong, I think two twenty three
on the ground and it was the most of this
season against the Gators, and Dante dal Dell when he
gets a touchdown, he makes you remember it.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Yeah, it was really good to see Dante rip off
the long run and get some yards because you know,
with Seth, you know, when Seth's one hundred percent, you know,
Set's a real weapon. That's hard to get off the field.
We have a lot of confidence in Dante, but Seth
is definitely different and he's playing at a higher level,
and his pass catching ability is so strong as well.
(26:35):
And then you know JP Jason Patterson with another strong
catch by running back for the touchdown. And Dante is
that big physical guy. He runs extremely fast, as you
could tell with two long runs for touchdowns this year.
So he has great tapa and but he's really physical.
He had some really tough runs in there. I want
to say, I can't put it all together now. It
(26:58):
was first first touchdown or second touchdown, but he had
a you know, fifteen yard run and he was he
was thumping some people. I mean, you feel him late
in the year when you have a big, physical backs
and if we could continue to play at a high level.
You know, an offensive line, you feel that late in
the year as a as a defensive guy's a defender.
You're sitting there tackling these big old dudes over and
(27:20):
over again. Late in the year. You know, that's a
that's a real checkup.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
The offensive line. We should spend a little time on them.
You talked about the drive coming out of halftime, and
the seven straight runs to finish it off. I know
that's something those guys take a lot of pride in
to be able to take ownership of a line of
scrimmage like that. And that is a group that seems
to be getting better.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Yeah, without a doubt. I mean they again, extremely mature group,
you know, really care, you know, unbelievable camaraderie in that room.
They work, you know, Coach Wolf works some extremely hard
and they respond. I mean, you know, you're never going
to be perfect in protection. I mean watching NFL games,
(28:08):
these are the you know, best tackles in the world,
you know, playing out there, and they have a hard
time protecting in the SEC the guys you go up against.
It's hard. It's not going to be perfect. But we've
been given them good time and it really helps that
Cutter has been very decisive on where to go with
the football as well.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
And you were able to get some of the second
unit O line guys in there late in the game.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Very important because you know, it's been nice with that
continuity of those guys. But I always like to play
a lot of guys going way back. You know, we
used to rotate quite a few, but you know, we're
in a lot of tight games right now, so you
know it was important to get that that group. We
have a lot of confidence in some of those guys
coming back for next year, so that's the good thing.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Another question at UK Sports Network, the King notes that
there was a believe sign he saw at the Texas
game and he talks about, you know, how you guys
have played so well going back to that game. Did
that sign inspire you guys? Imagine your guys were already believers.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Yeah, we're definitely believers. That did not see the sign.
I'm not sure if the players did or not. That's great, but.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
The curious they believe that, thank you.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
We believe too. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
I think back to I interviewed Ty Bryant this summer
and he's one of your leaders, and he talked about
nobody wants to feel like we felt walking off the
field after that last game last season, and certainly everybody
would say that if you're coming back, but there's a
lot of work that goes into saying it and also
then putting it into practice and making it happen that
(29:41):
you don't feel that.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Way of making it have especially when you're not getting
the results that you want, you know, throughout the year.
But for guys like Tie and the team to continue
to work and to put ourselves in a position to
win those games, you know, just it's a testament to them.
I've been consistent with it all year because that's how
I feel, and they've given me no reason to think otherwise.
So really special group, and I'm glad for them, you know.
(30:05):
I know, I think a lot of people feel. I
get those looks around town, you know, and I have
talked about, right I go get a coffee or something,
people are like, oh my god, like what this guy?
All right? And I'm like to you and like, I'm fine,
I'll be fine, you know, let me get that for you.
I can handle it, you know, I can handle it.
But but for the players, I'm super happy for them
because they do all the work and they're great young
(30:28):
man and they deserve some happiness and some joy. And
it's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (30:33):

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Well?
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Good, Hey, I'm John? Hey John? Is that the first
time this year you're not horse from yelling at me?
Speaker 2 (34:56):
I've got twice?
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Okay, that's that's fair. Probly, I damn sure probably deserve
those two.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
My questions.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
That is what's been beating them bos for two weeks.
And if it can be put in a bottle, I'm
coming election them and buying two courts. All right, Well
you can. It's belief, as we said that sign in
the stadium. No, it's you know, it's just you know,
getting the results that we want and sometimes, you know,
that's what makes sports fantastic is because you have to
(35:30):
do so many things right, and alls that does is
give you an opportunity. You know, so if you don't
do that, you have absolutely no chance. And our players
have been doing a lot of good things and it
hasn't all come together, and just grateful that it has
in the past couple of weeks and we want to
continue to build on that. So thank you.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
John Frank asks it's actually a question in the directed
to be was the confidence of the players as noticeable
as it was to him? I would say most definitely,
because you could see, you know, we've talked about this
and people think it's you know, coach speaker whatever week
to week, but there was still an energy level out there.
It's if I've been to a lot of practices for
(36:12):
a lot of years, and when they're dead, that's usually
not a good sign. But when there's energy, there's usually hope.
Sometimes it's more even more energetic than others. I thought,
you know, coming out of the open day it Gainst Texas,
it kind of started. It's kind of ramped up from there.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Yeah, you've mentioned that to me off air because you
always swing by, and you know, you've said that to
me throughout the year and it has been consistent, you know,
and you know, I think, you know, the other thing
with the belief and the confidence is is can't be understated.
I know I've said a lot about it, it's the
entire team. But when you have a quarterback that that
(36:45):
you know is starting to play like that, it makes
everybody around them. The great ones make people around them better,
and I definitely feel that right now as well.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
A few more notes from this game against Florida's the
fewest points allowed to the Gators by a Kentucky team
since ten to three win in nineteen eighty six, first
time the Kentucky's given up two hundred and forty seven
yards or fewer to consecutive SEC opponents since nineteen ninety nine.
And it is, as I said, without some key players
that you lost on the opening series, and then coming
(37:16):
into the game you had another injury, Tavian Gadson that
wasn't able to go.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Tavian and Tryan's been out, yeah, and.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
So the seerc steps up, plays very well down at Auburn,
and then Cayden Williams who played you know here and there,
but he gets his chance. And we've talked about this before,
I think probably with Fred Fairy in the last couple
of weeks. But being ready, you can either if you're
not playing and they all want to play, you can
get down and hang your head or you can keep
(37:42):
working and be ready when you get your chance. Cayden
had six tackles to lead.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
The team, and that's truly amazing because he hasn't had
many opportunities this week. But what's good about that, you know,
even for us, is like, listen, we have to trust
you during the week, like we have to trust you
that you're going to execute and play well. We got
to play the guys that you know the games are
on the line, you know. So but for him, you know,
you know, hopefully it'll boost him and his confidence that
(38:08):
you know would mean to continue to prepare that way
because you certainly went in there and been productive. But
that is something as a whole, that's something that I'm
extremely proud of with with so many people that it's
so easy just to say, you know, I give, I
submit my cave. You know, I'm not playing but five
snaps of game, so you know, I'm just going to
do my thing. And and all of them have stepped
(38:31):
in and made plays when we need them to, and
you know that that I'm super proud of.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
And that's again, sometimes you see guys get that payoff
when they do that. Yes, like a callin who's getting
his opportunity and now making the most of it. Cayden
making news. Maybe do is the same here Addison And
sometimes I'm sure it's a player maybe whether they would
acknowledge it or not. They lose a little confidence when
they get in and it goes well, that get they
get the confidence back to be the guy that you recruited.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Yeah, without question, because you know it gets back to that.
You know what I said earlier. If you're not doing
all those things, you have no chance, you know what
I mean. So you know for players as well, if
they're if they're gonna give, if they're gonna cave, there's
no chance. Man. These people we play are relentless. I
know people think this team's not that good. This team,
I mean, look look at Auburn. I mean, look look
(39:18):
at what they did that game. I had an opportunity
to watch a lot of that against Vandy game prior
to them. I mean, they absolutely lit it up. And
you know it's a good football team that's talented. Everybody
looks at it and thinks, so look at the record,
and they think that's what they want to define it by.
Look at who we play, Look look at who the
heck we all play guys. And you know there's half
(39:39):
of our league. Think about this, You heard me. Half
of our league has the same amount of league wins
that we do. Are less, that's nuts.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
And the Florida team that you just beat the week
before had the lead against Georgia in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
Yeah, exactly, had the lead and the football, Yeah, in
the fourth quarter against Georgia. And yeah, I mean, so
you just it's it's not apples to apples. I'm sorry.
You know, our league is monstrous, and you know, people
outside of our league don't want to understand that, but
it is. It's it's it's.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
They understand it. They just maybe don't want to acknowledge it.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
They don't want to acknowledge it for a reason.
Speaker 2 (40:20):

That's like UK Sports Network on a variety of platforms.
It could be on Facebook. You can also follow on Instagram.
It's at UK Underscore Sports Network and you can follow
on x it is at UK Sports Network. There the
two hundred and thirty three rushing yards, the most against
an SEC opponent since that monstrous day that Ray Davis
(43:07):
had and Kentucky went for three twenty nine against the
Gators back in twenty twenty three. Of course, that had
been the last SEC home wins, so I know Coach
Stoops and the guys were happy to check that box off.
Kentucky converted two thirds of its third downplays eight out
of twelve, best number in a single game since they
went eight of twelve against Missouri in twenty twenty one.
(43:30):
And this is the first time that UK has allowed
sixteen or fewer points to three SEC opponents since twenty twenty.
So there's a long list of these I won't go
through them all, but there's a lot of positives out
of that game and what is going on right now
for the wildcatch. You can reach us on the Clark's
Pumping Shop phone line or on social media at UK
(43:52):
Sports Network. Let's go back to the phones, Terry, what
do you have for Coach Stops?
Speaker 23 (43:57):
Yeah, Coach, I want to say you that I listened
all all your Mondy press conferences and today was beautiful.
I love my football coach to talk like you talked today,
very candid, very to the point. I love the way
you handled the Zacht question. You didn't embarrass him, but
you got the point across that he got the discipline.
Two quick things and I'll get off here, we're having
(44:20):
a little trouble handling the punts. From where I stand,
I think Kendrick does the best job of handling those punts. Well,
we see him on a more consistent basis going forward.
And then in the Auburn and Vandy game, they both
got away with blatant grounding calls. I want to know
what the referees told you, who was in the area
(44:40):
besides the vendor selling popcorn.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
Well, thank you. You are absolutely correcked on the punts.
You know, it's been a bit of an issue all year.
That may have been the first we've muffed and lost.
I think Tie muffed one and got it back, But
that's the first one we lost. And Kendrick did it
the we before because it was that rugby style end
over and and he's very comfortable with kickoffs that way,
(45:06):
and so you know, punts are just much different. And
you know, so we'll continue, you know, to work on
that and and uh, you know, our guys got to
do a better job. They got to get up under it.
We didn't get up underneath the ball. Ye he extended
out to reach out. So there's some technique things that
we could work on to get better. And will and
(45:27):
you know Jimori is the best at that on our
team right now. It is something to certainly address as
you you know, put your roster together because we have two, three,
four guys that are used to it. I tell you,
our stadium is not easy, you know, with the with
the wind and everything, it's very different. I've been emphasizing
this for three or four years because we do a
lot of practicing as you know, out on the grass field,
(45:50):
and it's just different there. The stadium is different with
the way the wind blows and all that. So I
try to get him as many catches as we can
in that stadium, and we got to continue to do that.
And technique wise, there's some things to get up underneath
the football and help them be more accurate with that.
And then I can't comment on what the official say
on that. I can't wait myself because I'm waiting on
(46:11):
this one to come back. I'll probably get it tonight
when I go back to the office and it'll piss
me off all night, you know. But but there was, Yeah,
that was that. I don't know how that wasn't called
grounding at all. Have no idea.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
So the wind I always look for it before the
game starting as far as could impact the game. And
there will be times there at at Kroger where the
flags atop the uprights, yeah might be going one direction
and the flags atop the stadium could be another direction.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
Very much yeah, very much so. And I think the
way we have those breaks in between the gusts that
come through there, it's just different. And listen, a lot
of steams are It's no excuse, it's just how we
got to adjust to it and get catches in there.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Kendrick catches the ball above his head. He does.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
Yeah, hey man, just catch it as long.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
As you catch it. So uh. Coach Ortmeyer the legendary
special teams coach here with Coach Brooks, ort headed down,
and I mean he was like a savant on special teams.
You know, Bradley Dale, be Vatoli came in with you,
some of those guys that Coach Bulward now that study
it and have done it a long time. Ort headed
(47:20):
down that you could kicking toward the field house, you
could actually I think it was get about two extra
yards on a field goal.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
Yeah, yeah, that You've always told me that Coach ort
he was he was. He was a great one, that's
for sure.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
Let's talk a little bit about your next opponent, Tennessee Tech,
because they're undefeated. They are FCS level team, but undefeated
scoring a lot of points.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
They are. They have a really good, uh, offensive line
that works really good together. Everything's going through the quarterback.
Anytime you have a confident quarterback, you've got to go
play well. And you know, you know, our our team
in Tennessee Tech is undefeated. Again, You've got to credit
anybody that that's undefeated because it's hard to do.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
So.
Speaker 4 (48:03):
They're disruptive and active on defense. Uh, they have some
maturity on offense. The Old Lion works well together. The
quarterbacks are really good player. You know. But as I
no disrespect to Tennessee Tech. But it's the same thing
I've said every week, like it's really about us, you know,
and it's about our energy level and continuing. I love
(48:23):
the execution that's coming together. I mean, we're playing good
and that we have to just continue to build on.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
And complimented, compliment.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
And specialty, no question, and in tight games, you know
you have to do that. There were games that we've
talked about all year. You know, where's two sides are
played good or one side plays elite, and then you know,
a couple of plays here and there and you just
have to put it together, you know. And most of
the time it's one possession game. It's the most one
possession games in this league in a long time. Uh.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
Sometimes guys will be playing well and maybe they don't
get sacks, TFLs and doesn't they don't get the name
called as much. I was reading Cole Kublck's breakdown. He
does a film review of every team in the league
every week posts it, and he was covering your last
couple of games, and he mentioned CJ works and the
(49:17):
pressure he applied to the quarterback even though he didn't
get credits for anything in the stats. He's a true
freshman that I know you guys are very high on
and getting more opportunity here in the last couple of weeks.
How's he taking advantage of.
Speaker 4 (49:28):
That very much? Just the terrific young man he has
that you know, prototypical body type you're looking for. He's big,
he's putting on good weight, He's going to get stronger
and stronger. He's really good in space for a young guy.
In our outside linebackers have to plan space some but
(49:49):
he's also becoming gonna be a really laid pass rusher
as well. So you know that's the type of guy
that's the whole package. And you know he's getting better
and better and he's got a terrific attitude. Just just
love everything about him.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
I think of one on one tackle he made in
space against Arch Banning in the Texas game, and there
were others in this most recent game where you'd have
I think tie one time was one on one against
ball and got an.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
Impressive, impressive tackle, the one you're talking about very much.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Leading up to it seems like the tackling is better.
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Are you saying without a question that tackle you're talking
about what tie in space against an elite running back
was big time And and with CJ, I know a
couple I think you're talking about as well, because you're
seeing that big, long, you know body that I'm talking about,
big physical guy, and he's in and he's doing it
with some bad intentions at times, which is what we
(50:43):
like when you're on defense. So he's he's been getting
more and more physical, so you don't just really like
what I'm seeing there.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
There's a guy the old Oakland Raiders Guy way back,
Ted Hendricks the Stork. Oh yeah, CJ's got a little
bit of.
Speaker 4 (50:57):
Old too, I remember that.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Yeah. Head to a break and have one more segment
just as we note. As we get there. Tennessee Tech

It's the fans, the students, the traditions, the legends. It's
passion to celebrate deeper, reach farther, think smarter, make an
impact off the field. It's that intelligible thing that happens
(52:36):
when sixteen schools raised the bars one Because in SEC,
it just means more.
Speaker 22 (52:46):

Final segment of the Mark Stoop Show, presented by UK
Healthcare and congrats to UK Women's Soccer. They get the
news today that they have been chosen to play in
the NCAA tournament. They will play Saturday at two Eastern times,
So if you're headed to the soccer field for that,
take your radio along because Kentucky and Tennessee Tech kickoff
at one point thirty at Kroger Field, and then the
(54:44):
men's soccer team mentioned them earlier. They won over Coastal Carolina.
They will play Central Florida Tomorrow night at seven or
Wednesday night at seven.
Speaker 4 (54:52):
That was a little home cooking right. Coastal Carolina had
to play here last night and it was well Cole,
little cold, Wendy and Na.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
It wouldn't have been the worst thing. Of course, it
turned out well anyway for the Gators, but it wouldn't
have been the worse that I have this hit a
little bit earlier, yeah, and then this, but it's supposed
to be sixty, like mid sixties against Saturday.
Speaker 4 (55:09):
Well that's good because I want our fans to enjoy
it and it's the last time for these seniors and
want to send them off the right way and for
us to play well and have a nice crowd there
to support them.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
Kickoffs been set for the Vandy game, by the way,
a week from Saturday, and that is November twenty second.
It'll be a three thirty Eastern time kick. They are
still in flux on where it's going to be shown, ABC,
ESPN or ESPN two is what the SEC network release
said today. So but we know this week it's Tennessee
Tech at one thirty Eastern time. And for the Wildcats,
(55:44):
a chance to close out the home season in a
good way with a win would be three in a row.
And we talked a little bit about this last week,
but just the power of the force of confidence and
momentum in sports, and your guys are riding that wave
right now.
Speaker 4 (56:00):
Yeah, without a doubt, you know, and and again that
you know it's not coach speak, it's it's the truth.
I have to beat it into them all week. It's
it's our preparation. And you know, it's not just this
result we're looking for this Saturday. We're looking to continue
to improve and finish strong the entire year. So let's
just you know, do the next right thing and keep
on stacking good days together and good things are going
(56:22):
to happen.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
There's another vote for the uptempo offense from Gary says
Pedal to the Metal. Bush Bush Hampton, your oc has
to mention this to somebody at the stadium of the night,
I said, when things are clicked, when you've hit a
quarterback that's in a groove like this, you're like a
catcher calling pitches and you know he can get anything
(56:44):
and throw it in the right spot, as opposed to
sometimes you're calling pitches for a guy that you're not
sure what he can get over the plate.
Speaker 4 (56:48):
Yeah, without a doubt. I think you know, some people
were asking me that today and you know, talking about
like you know what I want and everything else. I'm like, heck,
if we could have that type of efficiency, I'm good
to throw it every down. I mean, but you know
you have to be able to do that. You have
to be able to protect, you have to be able
to catch find the open guys, and and you know,
you know you want to do that now. I say
(57:10):
that tongue in cheek because you know, you know I've
said that. You know you have to have some physicality
about you as well. But the balance is what we're
striving for. Let's be honest. I've been a defensive coordinator
a long time before head coach. Balance is an issue,
especially when we continue to you know, play at the
way we're playing a quarterback and continue to build some
(57:30):
elite dangerous guys outside. Now you're really, you know, doing
what you need to do.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Good luck on a see your day win.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
Okay, thank you very much, Tom, appreciate everybody.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
