We were supposed to get him a cake and it was supposed to be a surprise

Lt had like some stuff and he needed to take off. Well
He had mentioned saying like hey let basan know that he needs to go pick up the cake and what will cash happen

so I get a text message like maybe like an hour or two and mike says like hey, did you go get the
The cake and I was like, oh shit
Like I didn't I wasn't told anything so I texted him like oh no one told me anything and then
The other firefighter was like I did tell you I did tell you and it's like bro. No the fuck you didn't

So it was kind of scary bro, because we went to that pizzeria place
Okay, the guys they wanted some like slices of pizza or whatever. Yeah, and it's well, it's right next to dairy queen. Yeah

Yeah, so that's that's what the other firefighter did if he went to go order the pizza and we were all there inside
I'm there trying to like distract bayaz, but bayaz is facing outside

To dairy queen and he's walking back to the truck to go put it away
Well, dude bayaz sees like dude, there's someone by the truck and I was and he had asked me

I was at central day one. I was at station three day two

And don't even run it's cool, right? I like I like going over there and obviously the acting pays good and everything like that
But god does it suck to have to take everything with you? I know bro

Semi good thing is ray is out on that cycle. So I will be at two
And i'll be chilling i'm gonna leave all my stuff there finally for the first time
My truck's gonna finally be a little and that's not gonna be clean, but it'll be uh, it won't have all my gear and shit
So yeah, I think our driver is out next cycle, too

I know he's there for one day, which is monday
And then this one
I think we're we're short one or two lieutenants. This this next uh

Because they're they're they're going to frisco for training

Yeah, other than that no exciting calls or anything really this past week
We kind of had a I mean not to say not to say that I want a busy busy week
But we kind of had a slow week. There wasn't really much going on
A few fires few little things like that. But I mean car fires and all that stuff isn't like major major

And it's just nothing but like hay like plastic bags. I had the owner like drive the car in a while or what? No, dude

Was driving the car all day like that day like, you know, like
Like they went to work. They went to go do all this and that they had they had errands to do
But even before then like that person would be using the vehicle

With that type of vehicle was uh, it was a ford bronco like sport or whatever. Yeah
Well, dude, like they have a huge like void space like in the bottom like just beneath like the engine bay like huge bro

And I wasn't paying too much attention to the radio traffic who we were doing our thing
But it was just fucking like once I got there, I was like, oh my god
It's fucking like once once I heard mike say that it was a possum. I was like brothers. No way

But how was y'all's uh, the two vehicle it was it was all right, man. It was
For one shout out evan, uh almost getting second due to his own district. You know what I mean?

We got there and honestly, they said it was close to structures bro, but the closest structure was probably like
Uh like 20 feet away, maybe maybe 25 feet away. Oh shit

um, and it was just the engine compartments and they were starting to go into the dash but nothing too
Too crazy robert deployed the line
And pretty much knocked it out pretty quick josh and iza just backed them up
Um, robert, i'm not nothing nothing too crazy bro. It was just chill
Yeah, man, hell yeah, and those vehicles they were like a little bit older or um

No, so I don't have to be honest with you bryan and pay attention to what kind of vehicles they were

They were they were jump starting it or they were charging it or something. They had the the fucking uh, those cables the jumper cables
Connected to each other and they heard like a pop and then it just started bro like shit dude. That's what happened
That's what happened, uh to to rescue one bro

Like yeah, we took it out bro. Like we're there doing our daily checks and we're gonna back it in
And i'm there like in in uh truck one like ready to back it in stuff
I literally just turned it on and then I heard a loud pop bro
Like a huge pop and I was like, oh my god. I just fucked up this truck
No, dude, it was rescue one like the battery like literally popped no shit

Yeah, dude, and that was like maybe a month ago month and a half ago
Damn. Oh, that's why I was out of service for a while. Yeah, man. Now they um
That was pretty much it man. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. It was it was a simple
Simple car fire. It wasn't too crazy. It wasn't it didn't catch any tree branches on fire. It didn't catch any grass
It was literally just the vehicles. That's all it was quick little knock down for robert and that was it

But you know it is what it is. We we gotta make sure we hold them back bro. We don't let them be great

Other than that though, I mean aside from the the the cycle and the calls and everything like that

um, I know one of the things that I kind of got asked from some some uh
uh followers on on instagram and stuff like that was kind of discussing a little bit about the
the challenges
Um and rewards of working long shifts and how we can manage our personal and our work life
um
Me personally 24 hour shifts doesn't really feel that long, right?

Um, just because you're with a whole bunch of dudes that you're just fucking around all day. Literally. That's all it is. Yeah
Um when i'm at station two the shift flies by so quick by the time I know it it's lunchtime by the time
I know it's dinner time by the time. I know it it's memes time you go to sleep and you wake up and you're done
Yep, it's quick. It's it's uh

To me, I don't think it's that big of a
I guess that longer of a shift. Um, yeah
But obviously, I mean the main challenge obviously is being away from obviously for me at least being away from amy and kyon, right? So
um, i'm pretty sure it's like that with everybody that has family and kids and stuff like that, so
um
but aside from that, what do you think is a

Challenge or reward from working the uh, the long shifts and managing it with the personal and work life
I mean like the rewards. I mean, it's just kind of more of like, I mean you're helping your the community
You know what I mean? Like yeah, like the calls that you get and you can go make a difference any little thing makes a difference
So like that's a huge plus
um, but at the end of the day like I mean like the way you said like we have

A bunch of guys there at one station, you know
Like if one like there's no yeah, like there's times where people want like their privacy and stuff like that
but I mean you guys gotta like learn how to
How to like adapt with each other and then even then like if you were to like fuck up on something or whatever
Those are the guys that are gonna be like right there behind your back like they're always gonna be backing you up

I mean, it's a it's it's honestly like a beautiful like brotherhood and stuff like that. Yeah, but um
One of the other things is I mean missing missing family time, you know
that's the stuff that kind of that kind of sucks about like the service, but even then man like
Working 24-hour shifts it flies by it flies by especially like me. I'm on probation. I'm there at central

So it's kind of like you got to be doing some shit
But I mean, I mean even then I kind of feel like you're your first year's kind of flying by what are you at right now?
Dude, it is flying by I think i'm at
Five months or six five months. Yeah, I mean you're flying by it man. It's it's uh,
I mean shit. I just hit eight years bro, dude. I know last month bro. Yeah, baez is telling me to that too

So little stuff like that dude, like I think that's fucking badass, you know
Yeah, I think I think one of the the big rewards for working the shift life is is obviously
I mean and it's one of the reasons we named it the way we named the podcast right is the four day breaks
You cannot beat the fact that I could be off four days in a row on my regular schedule every week

Yes, sir. And then requesting requesting one day
Like oh and you make sure you have six days bro. Like you cannot argue with that dude
Like the only way that I can see it being a legitimate argument is
I'm i'm kind of all for the 4896 schedule. You know what bro? I have zero problem with that
I've never personally worked with that me neither me neither

But i've heard good things and I know larry sent over some information on it to me
And all I can see is a bigger benefit for us to work the 4896 like hey, you know what?
You're away from family for two days straight, but you go back for four days bro
Like right immediately right after yep
There's no you know five day work week with an off day in between and you have three shift days

You're down 72 hours and then get a four day break kind of I mean i'm for the 4896
Or I know there's obviously a few older guys and stuff like that in the department that wouldn't be for it
But I think a lot of the younger guys are kind of yeah, you know what? We're we're all for it, you know
No, I agree with that dude. I mean, yeah four day breaks are amazing
That's one of the main reasons I don't want to go over to you know admin or prevention or anything like that

It's switching over to that fucking eight to five or nine to whatever the hell they work now. Yeah, bro for um, yeah
I'm not I don't know man. That's uh, and that's because like I heard that they do get like uh, like a four day three day breaks
I think oh three day breaks. You see yeah, and then and then they every month they get one four day break or something like that
Yeah, no, i'm good. Fuck that. Yeah, I don't I don't know the the entire schedule

But i'll i'll ask for it see if I can get a a decent little
Run down of it. I'm pretty sure some people will ask how that works. Yeah, I know every department's different too
So we'll see how it works in ours and kind of see what other people got going on. Yeah

But yeah aside from that, I think those are pretty much the main rewards and challenges and benefits of the shift life

I mean, I I personally enjoy it
I like coming home being off for an entire day and not having to worry about doing a single thing, right?
But the four day breaks are definitely great. Oh, dude. Oh my god. I look forward to it
Oh hell yeah this week bro. This week was so long for some reason like
I don't know. I just moving to different stations and doing all that shit kind of just made it dragged a little bit but

So yeah, that one's gonna be all dude. I'm really dreading that. I mean, I love my job
I love working and stuff like that
But it's it's awesome when you can have like a weekend like on shift like, you know, yeah, of course
Yeah, monday wednesday friday is kind of suck. Yeah, but the good thing is is it's a five day check. So we're good

Oh, yeah, you know what I mean? You deal with it for a little bit. Yeah, it's tough when you're at central
But when you're at another station, it's not that bad
um
On on strontium now on that note the next thing that we had lined up was talking about training. Yeah, um
Anything
New training wise that you learned this past week. Yeah, dude, actually we we set up

Well, I think at the time we were using uh, i'm sorry. We were using rescue we were on rescue
But we decided to take truck one to the to the drill field
And we were going over like truck placement and stuff like that
And uh, our lieutenant was like, all right, you guys got it
Let me give you guys a scenario
So he just gave us a bunch of like random scenarios and they're at the tower like, you know, I mean three floors

So he would tell us like hey, there's uh, there's someone
On the second store on the second floor on the north side of the building
So you would have to do truck placement and stuff like that and one of the biggest things that I learned
especially
Was that uh
By parking it in reverse you it's a lot quicker
And a lot less like length of the ladder for you to deploy it. That makes sense

And so you're coming in straight in it's rear mounting. Yeah
So that's what I learned and I felt like that was like a huge help
I've never was I was never taught that or anything like that
So that really helped me out
And uh, yeah, they just gave us a bunch of scenarios. We were there all day
Just messing with the ladder. So
As for
At least our our shift there at central. I mean, we're really comfortable with the ladder now

Um, nothing on my end as far as crazy stuff. Um
Obviously we have that new eso
Um program going through where we were doing all the training on there and stuff like that. So um
it wasn't necessarily so much of learning it because um, I mean I kind of put it all together but

It was learning the changes that they made right because I was out last cycle dealing with all the kyan stuff
So yeah, um coming back in and then I missed the trainings from last week
But this week I was able to kind of talk to chief and kind of see what was what was changed
there's a few things they they moved around but

Other than that, I mean, that's pretty much pretty much it on my end

Uh, nothing's too crazy. Um, and then actually yes or two days ago we had uh,
Yeah, we had the diamondback training and stuff like that more just like your hours to keep up with your tcfp
Yeah, which actually I need to I need to get started on does have the instructor the wildland the regular

They have a bunch of stuff bro just to just to maintain like all those hours and stuff even like emt

That which is honestly insane. It's a big help too
And then it definitely avoids the whole waiting last minute or trying to figure shit out at the end of the year
Yeah, and then we went to far
on shift
To go to a mass shooting that happened there at the that uh, alan texas, uh outlet. Okay, aldermock

And there were just uh personal experiences from what they what they felt they should have
That's why we're gone. I was wondering. Yeah, we were over there man, and it was really good
It was a good training. It was more of just kind of like lecture and just kind of showing us what they did
what they could have done better and stuff like that and it ranged from
police fire to even like dispatchers

So there was a bunch of like dispatchers from like our city and a variety of cities that that came down and they were there like, uh,
Learning from the class. It was a really good class
Not really good. Yeah
Um
On that note, obviously we do have fire school coming up. Yeah, and then that's like month two months

Um, did you sign up to say anything? Oh, yeah, uh, I sent my application for heavy rescue
A lot of people were saying like nah, I don't think you're gonna get it. It's more for senior guys
And I was like, hey man. Yeah, you know, I know i'm a shooter bro
You throw me that fucking that rock i'm gonna fucking shoot it bro from the three. You might not make it
Yeah, but the shot was intended. Yeah, the shot was intended bro. Come on now

So I fucking I shot my shot on that and then uh, I shot my shot on uh
On what's it on trench?
So now i'll be submitted for the leadership one
Okay, um, but that was that was pretty much it
Badass bro, we'll see how that goes and then obviously in april i'm going to austin with eso
So we'll see how all that shit goes. Oh, what are you gonna do?

Uh, honestly, I have no idea. They're sending me to do some training and with uh, eagle three over there
So we'll see what what comes out of it. It's uh

I don't know an annual training thing that they do with eso. So
I i'll be honest. I have no idea what the hell it's all gonna be but you know, we'll we'll make it work badass man badass

um, I know that uh,
I just started eating a little healthy this past week
And I also just started drinking zero sugar drinks trying to cut back on the coats because

And I don't want to make it sound like i'm exaggerating but I do drink a lot

I could go through about two liters by lunchtime. Holy shit. Yeah

Damn and then that's not including the rest of the day
Like I I can I could drink a lot of fucking coke, but
I'm trying to cut back a little bit. Um, obviously, you know, no health scares or anything like that came out of it
Thank god, right? But um, it's more of just you know what I kind of figured
I'm looking to go into this new position. Hopefully this year and if i'm going to I need to kind of be in a little more shape better shape

And yeah eating healthy now that amy's cooking every day
So now I get to take food from home not eating out as much. I know bro. I noticed that man
When you work with us that one day and uh, I remember because you had asked me like oh like do you have like food?

Because bae is always usually like he's the one that asks me like, you know
But that motherfucker runs bro, like he can eat whatever the fuck he wants and he'll run like 10 miles, bro. Yeah, yeah, you know

you can like you can definitely taste the difference the thing is is it's not like a

I just hate drinking water just in general just by itself don't make wrong after the structure and shit like that
I'm all for it, right? I'm a little dehydrated but and it might obviously doesn't help that I drink like a lot of coke but

Yeah, i'm not really too big on water. I'm not a big fan of it just by itself drinking it consistently. I'm not a fan of it
