What if your home felt easy to live in—every day? We sit down with Charlotte’s own Clear the Clutter Professional Organizers to explore how thoughtful organizing, custom closet design, and full-service moving support can turn overwhelm into a calm, livable system. Stephanie Brayman and Abby Voorhees share the story behind their partnership and the practical framework they use to help families, professionals, and seniors create spaces that actually work.

We walk through their complimentary in-home consultation, the difference between tidying and true space planning, and why they ask clients not to clean before they arrive. From measuring and product sourcing to installation and donation drop-offs, they handle the details so you can focus on life. You’ll hear real examples—like creative solutions for sneaker collections and display-worthy Lego builds—that show how design meets real habits. Their team even bridges closet design and organizing, ensuring that every shelf, drawer, and hanger serves a purpose from day one.

Moving soon or just moved? Their moving concierge service manages movers, vendors, packing, and unpacking, then sets up rooms for flow and function. We also address common fears around decluttering, including judgment and pressure to toss sentimental items. Stephanie and Abby’s approach is gentle and client-led—especially helpful for seniors downsizing and anyone feeling decision fatigue. If you’ve been stuck on where to start, this conversation offers clear first steps for kitchens, primary closets, and playrooms, plus options for virtual consults and ongoing maintenance.

Intro/Close (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Regina Lee.

Regina League (00:10):
Hello, everyone, and welcome to another episode
of the Good Neighbor Podcast.
I'm Regina and I'm here inCharlotte, North Carolina.
And one of my favorite thingsto do is talk to local business
owners.
And today I'm lucky I get totalk to two fabulous women.
They are the owners of Clearthe Clutter.
I have Stephanie Brayman andAbby Voorhees.

(00:30):
Welcome, ladies.
Hello.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for having me.
You guys are in the Charlottearea.
Yes, we are.
Making magic happen.
We all could use a little bitof you guys.
Absolutely.
Well, first of all, let's startwith uh learning a little bit
about each of you and why youstarted this business.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, I'm Stephanie Brayman.
And I'm Abby Voorhees.
And uh actually Abby and I meteach other when we were not in
home organizing.
And I was actually her trainerin fitness.

unknown (01:02):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
And so um we actually started working for another
local home organizing companytogether.
And uh we were, you know, getting along well, doing great,
having a wonderful timetogether.
And we kind of were like, whyare we doing this for somebody
else?
So we said, you know, it's timefor us to start our own
business.
And so we help withdecluttering, organizing, moving

(01:27):
concierge services, uh gettinghouses ready to hit the market.
So just a variety of thingsthat I think bring a lot of
peace and calm to um ourclients.

Regina League (01:38):
Right, right.
So I'm on your wonderfulwebsite, by the way, clear the
clutter.biz.
And it really lays everythingout beautifully.
So home organization services, that's pretty clear, but closet
design.
So uh you're helping everyoneonce the beautiful closet's
installed, or tell us aboutthat.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Um, before, actually, we do have um a few connections
in the closet design, includingwe have one of the girls on our
team.
She works for a closet designand cabinet company.
So that's great.
And if they are needing a newcloset or updates or upgrades,
we can refer them to her and wecan help in the process.
And also, she's a homeorganizer as well.

(02:18):
So we can make sure that we'regetting the right closet for you
because it's not all just thesame for everyone, everyone's
needs are different.
So we can help customize, wecan take everything out, get the
closet installed, and then puteverything back and make it look
perfect.

Regina League (02:33):
That is amazing.
I'm such a visual person, so II just would love that, but I
need to knock walls out to havemy favorite closet, you know.
So moving concierge, talk aboutthat a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, we really can help uh, you know, help you find
your movers, setting upservices that you may need,
connecting you with differentvendors that you could maybe
need for the new house or thethe previous house.
Plus, we do all the packing, unpacking, picking up the
materials, all the good thingsto just kind of take that off

(03:04):
your list.

Regina League (03:06):
That is amazing.
So tell us about the process.
Okay, we we're listening tothis, and I want to start maybe
with my kitchen or my pantry.
Take us on that walk of whatthe process looks like.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
We do a complimentary 30-minute in-home consultation
because we really want to getour eyes on the spaces that
might need some attention.
And we ask people to kind ofgive us your biggest pain point
first, and they kind of show uswhat that is.
We take pictures, we domeasurements because we do also
help with like space planning.
And if you might need product, you know, some people aren't

(03:41):
ready to move and they're kindof stuck in their house right
now.
So, how can we make this housework for the needs of the
family, is what we really try todo.
Um, so we'll do that first andkind of get to know them and
understand their goals.
And then from there, we'll sendover a proposal for you know
how long we think it might takeand kind of get the ball rolling

(04:02):
with that.
But it's really simple.
If there's product needed, wedo the ordering of it, we pick
it up, uh, we take donations atthe end, we take out the trash.
So it's very full service.

Regina League (04:15):
I love that.
What part of Charlotte?
Do you work all of Charlotteand the surrounding area?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, we even travel out of state for a few clients
that we have, but we are weyeah, yeah, we have some fun.

Regina League (04:27):
That's very fun.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Philadelphia, yeah, just lots of other people that
trust us.
This business is about trust, and people trust us in their
homes.
And some people require anextremely high level of trust
and are high profile, and theyrefer us to other people that
are looking for the same thing, and it saves them a lot of time
that they don't have to gothrough services or through a
million people to find somebodygood.

Regina League (04:52):
Absolutely.
Oh, that's excellent.
Wow.
Well, that would be a lot offun.
My wheels are spinning.
Who you might be traveling tosee well, um, the virtual
consultation I see on your uhwhen does that happen on your
website?
I see that.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, we do offer if somebody is out of state and
they want all the cleaning withus so we kind of can go through
that process with them first andreally understand again what
their needs are and how we canbetter help them.
Um, some people kind of justneed the, you know, us getting
the ball rolling and giving themthe ideas and they're fine to
execute on their own.

(05:27):
Um, but a lot of people that wework with, I mean, just like
you hire your cleaning people oryou outsource your laundry, a
lot of people are doing thisbecause they're very busy in
their lives.
And if they have a little timeto themselves, necessarily
reorganizing their closet is nottop of the list.
Do you go back and do it again?

(05:48):
Like if you did my closet.
I mean, yeah, we have a lot ofplants that we see on a monthly
basis, quarterly basis, thingslike that.
And sometimes you might justget started with one space,
maybe a pantry or something likethat.
And then, oh, well, you realizewow, this could make a big
impact in my son's room or theplayroom or somewhere else.

(06:09):
So a lot of times we'll startwith a small project and then we
just kind of end up workingwith that client over time.

Regina League (06:15):
Well, it's it's a transformation mentally, too.
You know, that whole declutter, like your tagline, uh, elevate
your life.
Yeah, it's true.
Does one project stand out iny'all's mind maybe as the most
unique or unusual?
You're laughing.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Oh my they're all unique, they're all unique,
they're never the same.
Um, our clients, we love them.
Um, they're all great.
A lot of times, you know, larger families, careers like
sometimes can be a little bitscattered.
So we can kind of like rein itin and get them kind of back to

(06:53):
us.
Um, we do have one client thathas a lot of sneakers.
And so we come up with creativeways to store those and display
labels.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yes.
So yeah.
I I think I think we both likethough the challenge of, you
know, again, every project isdifferent, every client's needs
are different, and really comingup with solutions that they can
help maintain after we leave.
So I think it's fun for us tocome up with a new idea or try
something out.
One of the things we're workingon right now is coming up with
some solutions for Lego storage, not just the Legos themselves,

(07:28):
but so many of these, you know, building kits are these big
elaborate ones, and these kidsare putting those together, you
know, and they want to displaythem and keep them out and
things like that.
So I feel like we're alwaystrying to come up with a
different solution, you know, based on what our clients, you
know, are dealing with.

Regina League (07:45):
That is so fun.
I love that.
So, what are some of themisconceptions you guys run into
when you're meeting with aclient or in the process?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, I think one of the biggest ones, and also part
of the reason that we always doan in-person consultation
because people a lot of timesare embarrassed, to be honest.
Everyone, when we come in,says, Oh my gosh, I'm so
embarrassed, my house is a mess, whatever.
And they maybe don't want toshow us what's behind the door
or what's on the other side ofthe closet.
We want to make sure we knowexactly what's there.

(08:16):
We say, Don't clean before wecome.
We want to see everything, wewant to know what we're working
with.
And so I think the biggestmisconception is maybe that
they're gonna be judged abouthow much they have, what they
have, not knowing what to dowith it.
And some other people I thinkare worried.
A lot of the, you know, maybeolder generations are worried
that we're gonna force them ormake them get rid of things.

(08:38):
Yeah, things are reallyimportant to that generation,
and we're really running into alot of seniors that are gonna be
downsizing for various reasons, and the stuff that they have,
their treasures, the handy-downsthat they have, maybe for the
younger generations, they don'treally necessarily want them.
Right.
So kind of navigating that, um,you know, to make everybody

(09:01):
comfortable and make sure thatthey know we're not gonna make
them do anything that they don'twant to do.

Regina League (09:06):
That's that's amazing.
Yeah, you get to touch on a lotof aspects of life.
What is the most common roomthat people initially call you
for about?
Kitchens.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Kitchens are a big one.

Regina League (09:18):
Class closets, kitchens are primary closet.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I think too, a lot of times, you know, so many people
move in around Charlotte.
People move into Charlotte, youknow, so many people move into
Charlotte on a daily basis thatI think a lot of times it's hard
when people are moving into anew space to visualize how
things might need to be set upbecause you're kind of used to
one space.
And when you're downsizing oryou're getting a much bigger

(09:44):
place, it becomes overwhelminghaving to come up with every
decision of where everythingshould go and how it should
work.
Um, and I think that issometimes people get like the a
little bit paralyzed in, youknow what I mean, and having to
make those decisions, that it'shelpful just for us to come in
and again understand what theywant and need and then to

(10:06):
execute for them.

Regina League (10:08):
I love that.
Yeah, I'm envious.
What a fun job y'all have.
Love it.
Now if we can help you, Regina.
I will not, I will beembarrassed to show you my
office.
God, so when y'all aren'trunning this wonderful business,
what do you like to do for fun?
Where do you go?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Um, uh my husband, uh, he's a level two sommelier.
So we love trying newrestaurants and you know, with
wine and things like that.
Uh, we have a three rescuepets, so we spend a lot of time
with them.
Um, and we love to travel.
So just you know, as much as wecan do to kind of have a little
fun outside of work is good.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Abby, how about you?
I'm the single one, so and nopets.
So I like to be home by myself.
I do like to travel a lot.
Um, you know, spending timewith my friends and family that
live, you know, in the Carolinasand music.
I love music, concerts, thingslike that.

(11:07):
So I'm kind of more of theintrovert, but I love my reality
TV as well.
We were actually just on areality TV show we just filmed
this summer.
Where?
Which one?
It's called The Blocks, andit's on their app and some other
platforms, but that'll come outnext year.
And it's basically like anentrepreneurship um boot camp

(11:27):
that we went to for a weekcompetition in Tulsa for a week.

Regina League (11:31):
Wow.
Do you know the results?
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Yes, no, you'll have to watch.
Hey, we need an episode two.
Then uh when is that gonna berevealed?

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Well, we're hoping it'll come, it'll come out next
year.
We're just not sure of thetimeframe.
Um, you know, they do you knowquite a few, they they're always
constantly filming and puttingit out.
So they'll let us know.
We're gonna do a watch party, and then maybe we can come back
on the show though, maybe talk alittle bit more about it at
that time.
On what channel do we findthat?
It they have um, they're onPrime Video and then they have

(12:04):
their own app and YouTube andYouTube.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
So it's small, it's not like you know, Traders or
Survivor or anything like that.
That's next.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
No, it's I don't know if we need to do anything.

Regina League (12:20):
Well, Stephanie and Abby, it's been a pleasure
getting to talk to you and uhtell our listeners how to find
