Alexa (00:00):
I have so much to share
with you and I've been kind of
holding it back.
I still don't think I'm goingto give it all away today
because so much of it still hasto unfold.
But there's something that'sbeen really pulling at me that I
feel so compelled to talk about, so compelled to share that if
I don't start talking about it Imight actually explode at the
seams.
So we've talked about systemsfor a very long time.
(00:23):
Systems have been somethingthat have been very close to my
heart, not because I'm an SCpersonality on the disc Like
most people are like.
Oh well, I'm not a systemsperson because I'm a DI.
Yeah, so am I.
I'm a 90-90-99-I, right?
So systems have nothing to dowith personality styles.
The reason that I've alwaysbeen so passionate about systems
is because my dad, who was abusiness owner he did almost $2
(00:46):
million a year in volume.
He ran a business that didgranite and quartz fabrication.
So when someone was renovatingtheir kitchen or their bathrooms
, his company basically did allthe fabrication for the
contractors that then basicallyoutsourced to him.
And so in growing his business,he went from doing like two
kitchens a week to 20 kitchens aday in a span of like five
(01:09):
years, and that was all great, well and good, he was making
great money, all those things, but he also had a heart attack
and died at 51 years old, and itwas stress-induced.
And so, while I've talked aboutthat side of it, his marriage
was not one that was happy orhealthy either.
So the stress of work that hewas using to escape from the
marriage that he wasn't happy inright was a big part of this,
(01:33):
and so when we think about thestress and the workload that we
take on, this is something that, like, without systems, it's not
sustainable.
We are not meant to grind 24-7.
We are not designed for that, right.
And so some of you may know, and I've kind of hesitated a
(01:55):
little bit to take it here, butagain, I keep feeling this
calling to start taking it here, and so we're just going to
answer the call and that's justwhat we're going to do.
I've been on a very deepspiritual journey over the last
couple of years and it feelsalmost ingenuine to keep the
(02:19):
business separate from thespirituality, and I want to just
preface this by saying I don'texpect you to feel exactly the
same way I do.
I don't expect you to believewhat I believe.
But what I do think is going tohappen is that the agents that
this resonates with are going tofeel seen and feel understood,
(02:41):
and hopefully I can give yousome language to sort of explain
the way that this feels.
Now let me be very clear.
I am not stepping off mysoapbox of systems.
What I'm looking to do here issort of expand, not just
focusing on the systems, the how, but also being able to focus
on the why and the who, right.
(03:02):
So one of my biggest epiphaniesover the last couple of months
has been really focusing on notbeing the person in my business
to build the systems, and sothat was just something that I
had become the systems person, and so when there was an issue
in my company, it would bebrought to me and I'd be like,
okay, let's work through how tofix this Now, teaching people
how to think in systems andthink in mental models that help
(03:25):
them start to build thosesystems.
That's where I've stepped off ofthe soapbox of systems and into
the soapbox of leadership, andso, with that in mind, the
development of people in itselfis a form of ministry, if you
will, and so, whether or not yougo to church every Sunday or
temple or whatever you call it,whether or not you have a
(03:46):
relationship like these arethings that are core to our
human identity and, when youreally get into the deepest
depths of it, what we're talkingabout here is not just selling
houses, right, this is notsomething that we're just like
okay, well, and yeah, there'sgoing to be agents who that's
what they do.
They want to sell a house hereand there just to make some
(04:07):
extra money.
But if you are listening tothis and you've been on this
ride with me for a while you'renot that type of person.
You're looking to build abusiness and you care about
people, you care about yourfamily and you also care about
your clients and the experiencethey have, and you want to be
able to create betterexperiences, better
opportunities for the peoplearound you, and that right there
(04:28):
, the desire to do that, is aform of ministry, and so, when
we really continue digging intothis, what I've come to realize
is that the work that we do, andespecially in the niche that I
serve, which is inheritedproperty, we still do some
divorce, but really we haveexploded in the inherited
property space, and that iswhere I am continuing to sort of
(04:51):
hang up my hat and say, likethis, is it for our business?
Um, the work that we do issacred.
We are literally reshaping theway that people grieve.
We're reshaping the way thatpeople let go of the memories,
like for me, for example.
I grew up with a bunch ofcousins and whenever my cousins
get together, we alwaysreminisce on Mima's house, my
(05:14):
grandmother's house, and how weused to play in her basement.
Her basement was not that big,but there was like 15 of us that
played kickball in her basementand her basement was basically
like her storage, but we figuredout how to make a way to kind
of have our fun down there Inher backyard.
We played, capture the flag andlike all the things right.
So there's so many memories thatare tied to that particular
(05:35):
house that as we started diggingfurther and further into this
inherited property space, itbecame a realization that it
wasn't just the value of what wewere doing for the clients that
was making a difference.
It was who we were being inthat process, the energy that we
were embodying as we were goingthrough this process with them,
that made them go oh, wow, thisis different.
(05:58):
And so, as we've continued tolean into that, and we've really
focused on not separating thespirituality, the beliefs, the
heart of the business from theactual activity of the business.
The energy of our team and ourclients has completely
transformed, and so the title ofthis episode is I think it's
(06:19):
going to end up being like thisis sacred work.
What we do is sacred work, andwhen we can get people behind a
mission like that and we canfocus on not just selling a
house, not just completing atransaction, but truly giving
someone transformation throughour services, that's where
people really buy in.
(06:39):
And so in this podcast, we havebeen talking, like I said, a lot
about systems up until now, andthose are still important, but
that is only scratching thesurface, and I'm finding myself
continuing to be pulled in thedirection of talking more about
how to get people to buy intothe movement, and that is a
system in itself as well.
And so this podcast, we'regoing to evolve the name to
(07:03):
Sacred Work, and this is focusedon not just the systems, not
just the leadership, right, sothe systems is the how, the
leadership is the who, but alsothe why that we do this, and
focusing on bringing agents intoour world who are so
passionately driven about makinga difference and building a
(07:24):
great business at the same time.
Like to me, just making somemoney or completing a
transaction feels kind of emptyand feels kind of hollow, and so
I want to be around agents andpeople and our referral partners
who want to make a differencein this world.
And so, if you're with me, likeI said, this podcast is going
to evolve to sacred work.
(07:44):
This is literally step one of amassive, massive rebrand that
we're going through and you'regoing to see it all come
together.
If you're keeping an eye on theclient side of my business,
you're going to start to seethat showing up in the next
couple of weeks and then, overthe next couple of months,
you'll see that sort oftransformation come to the agent
side of our business, becausewe have so much to give and I
(08:08):
want to make sure that we stayon brand, and so I feel like I'm
being a little cryptic at thispoint, but I promise you, just
stick with us and you're justgoing to see it come together.
And I promise you, if you'redown for the ride and you
believe that what we do issacred work, stick around
because we're about to blow yourminds.
So, with that in mind, that isthe episode for today.
