Break, guys. Get your cup ofcoffee, glass iced tea, bottle
of water. It's Friday. Let's seewhat's happening Spring wheat.
$5.19 a bushel.
550 pound steer calf, $4.13 apound on the top end. A butcher
hog in Iowa, 60¢ a pound. And alamb that's fat, weighing 100

(00:27):
pounds will bring you $2 and apenny in Billings, Montana. But
guys, there's more, much more.Yesterday, a trivia quiz.
Today, some more from the book, how to stop worrying and start
living by Dale Carnegie. Butfirst, a bible verse. Listen

(00:48):
now. Therefore, I tell you, donot be anxious about your life,
what you will eat or what youwill drink, not about your body,
what you will put on. Matthew6:25
Very good advice. Don't worry.Be happy. Let's listen from the
book as I quote. This is fromchapter 6 titled how to crowd

(01:12):
worry out of your mind.
I shall never forget the night afew years ago when Marion j
Douglas was a student in one ofmy classes. He told us how
tragedy had struck at his homenot once, but twice. The first

(01:34):
time, he had lost his five yearold daughter, a child he adored.
He and his wife thought theycouldn't endure that first loss.
But as he said, ten monthslater, God gave us another
little girl, and she died infive days.

(01:56):
This double bereavement wasalmost too much to bear. I
couldn't take it, the fathertold us. I couldn't sleep. I
couldn't eat. I couldn't relax.
My nerves were utterly shakenand my confidence gone. At last,
he went to doctors. Onerecommended sleeping pills and

(02:18):
another recommended a trip. Hetried both, but neither remedy
helped. He said my body felt asif it were encased in a vice,
and the jaws of the vice werebeing drawn down tighter and
tighter.
The tension of grief, if youhave ever been paralyzed by

(02:41):
sorrow, well then, you know whathe meant. But thank God I had
one child left, a four year oldson. He gave me the solution to
my problem. One afternoon, as Isat around feeling sorry for
myself, he asked, daddy, willyou build a boat for me? I was

(03:05):
in no mood to build a boat.
In fact, I was in no mood to doanything. But my son is a
persistent little fellow. I gavein. Building that toy boat took
about three hours. By the timeit was finished, I realized that

(03:25):
those three hours spent buildingthat boat were the first hours
of mental relaxation and peacethat I had had in months.
That discovery jarred me andcaused me to do a bit of
thinking. The first realthinking I had done in months, I

(03:46):
realized that it is difficult toworry while you are busy doing
something that requires planningand thinking. In my case,
building the boat had knockedworry out of the ring, so I
resolved to keep busy. Thefollowing night, I went from
room to room in the house, compiling a list of jobs that

(04:09):
ought to be done. Scores ofitems needed to be repaired,
bookcases, stair steps, stormwindows, window shades, knobs,
locks, leaky faucets.
Astonishingly, in the course oftwo weeks, I had made a list of
242 items that needed attention.During the last two years, I

(04:36):
have completed most of them. Notime to worry. That's exactly
what Winston Churchill said whenhe was working eighteen hours a
day at the height of the war. When asked if he worried about
his tremendous responsibilities,he said, I'm too busy. I have no
time for worry. End of quote.

(04:59):
Do you see why I like this book?I still have some free copies
for anyone who asks. Theweekend's near.
Go out and stay busy. So untilnext time, as you go out there,
remember now, don't be bitter.
