Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are on assignment again, and it looks like the
shutdown may be over. God flooded the earth for forty
days and forty ninths. But it seems Democrats in the
Senate we're only willing to extend the shutdown for forty
one days.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
We'll get into all of that.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Plus President Trump has issued very significant pardons regarding Americans
who were doing their duty in their own.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Mind and according to the law.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
We'll go over those pardons with partner Attorney Ed Martin
in moments. And John Rocker is here to react to
news that is really really shaking Major League Baseball. Two
pitchers for the Cleveland Guardians indicted for proposition bett fraud.
That seems to look a lot like we just saw
from what we saw from the NBA. Plus President Trump
has a two thousand dollars tariff dividend that he is floating.

(00:45):
We'll talk about all of that and more next to
the Mac Gates Show.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Let's do this shaking up Washington, d C. We're breaking
the fever. You haven't watched this guy on television.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
It's like a machine.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
He's great. Matt Gates.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
As we join you this evening, there is a deal
in Washington, d C. To end the shutdown. Eight Democrats
have defied Chuck Schumer, crossed party lines and are voting
with Republicans for a series of bills that will reopen
the government. It'll be the House Continuing Resolution through January,
plus the addition of three minibuses to fund various other

(01:24):
legislative endeavors for an entire year. Those eight Democrats are
Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, Senator Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Senator
Cortez Masto, Senator Rosen, Senator Durbin, Senator Shehan, Senator Hassan,
and independent senator who always caucuses with the Democrats, Angus King.
Now those Democrats have crossed over and they are getting

(01:45):
absolutely destroyed by liberal media.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
They're saying they caved. They're the worst of the worst.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
They have rejected what voters were telling Democrats after the
off year elections.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Just take a listen to the beating these eight are taking.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
The Democrat philipster has been broken.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Will there you have it. Democrats just caved and bent
the knee to Donald Trump and the Republicans.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
The bent the knee. We caved. It is pathetic.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
It seems like the President is kind of getting what
he wanted.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
President made remarks saying basically, wow, Republicans are being harmed
by all of this, acknowledging that he was on his
back foot and now here he is winning again.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
How do we do it now?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
It is true that the Democrats made this shut down
about the extension of Obamacare subsidies, and they got no
concession on that whatsoever. So you could say they lost,
But I think that misses a broader point regarding what
is to come and what Democrats are setting up. But
if you have liberal media saying that the Democrats lost,
we want to check in on what the official messaging

(02:45):
is coming out of House Republicans.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Here's House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Speaker 7 (02:49):
After forty days of wandering in the wilderness and making
the American people suffer needlessly, some Senate Democrats finally have
stepped forward to end the pain. Years to us this
morning that our long national nightmare is finally coming to
an end, and the Senate is moving forward on an
amended House cr Continuing Resolution that will reopen the government

(03:10):
until January thirtieth. Added to that are provisions to fully
fund snap provisions through the end of the next fiscal year,
which is September twenty twenty six, guaranteed back pay for
all federal workers who have been made to endure these hardships.
All my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats in the House, you
need to begin right now. Returning to the Hill. We

(03:31):
have to do this as quickly as possible.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
I think if you watch almost any other program on
any other network on the center right, you'll hear commentary
saying this is a big win for Republicans.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Mike Johnson is able.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
To say he preserved the Republican position on healthcare, and Democrats, well,
they're attacking each other. And anytime that's happening, Republicans on
Capitol Hill usually like it. They usually crow the noises
of great victory. But hear me now, those eight Democrats
who joined with Republicans may have set a terrible trap

(04:04):
for the Trump administration and Republicans on Capitol Hill. Here's
what shutdowns are about. Leverage and pain points for Republicans.
We want to see the troops paid. We want to
see veterans get their benefits. We want to see ice
and border patrol continue to get their paychecks. We want
TSA and the air traffic controllers who work at the

(04:26):
Department of Homeland Security to be on the job so
that the American economy can flourish. What do Democrats feel
pain most over in a shutdown. It's when their own
staff aren't getting paid, and it's when the forty one
million people in this country on SNAP aren't getting their
SNAP benefits. So what did these eight Democrats just do?

(04:48):
They gave the Republicans only enough runway to keep the
government open through January. That's like in a few weeks away,
and in the meantime, they secured the ability to have
full funding for their staff through legislative branch appropriations and
for SNAP for an entire year. So obviously what's happening

(05:09):
is that Democrats are setting up for a January shutdown
where Republicans have no guarantee beyond January that ice border patrol,
the military veterans will be funded. But Democrats already have
a guarantee that their staff are going to be paid
and the SNAP benefits are going out. If Republicans were
going to give Democrats an extension of SNAP for a year,

(05:31):
then we should have gotten something in return for that.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
We should have.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Gotten the Department of Homeland security funded for a year?
Are military appropriations funded for a year. And so while
you will hear people saying now that this gets us
out of the shutdown, it ends the national nightmare, the
nightmare may just be delayed, and the next time Democrats
force a shutdown, they may be playing with a better

(05:55):
hand joining us Now. Conservative stalwart Texas Republican Congressman Keith's self,
so a representative self, you see the Senate cobbling together
the steal to reopen the government, what's your reaction.

Speaker 8 (06:07):
Well, I'm delighted that the Democrats are finally going to
do the right thing. Eight of them are going to
come over, They're going to vote for it. We're going
to end this shutdown that has been so painful for
the American people. Look, I'm a military guy for twenty
five years. Our junior enlisted troops really need to get
paid on time. They have few reserves that most of

(06:28):
them now have families. Let's get our military paid.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Last time I had you on the program, we talked
about the pressure that would build on Democrats when people
weren't getting their snap benefits, and you said that, really
the travesty here is that like twelve percent of the
American population is on food stamps, and that went very
viral on social media. This deal secures food stamps for
those forty one million people for a year, but it

(06:56):
only secures the military pay through January. Does that mean
Democrats got the better part of this deal.

Speaker 8 (07:06):
No, this is a good deal, Matt. Snap is going
to have to be worked on. But as I said before,
the sunshine that's been shown on three programs, Obamacare, SNAP,
and the H one B program, this is a long
term benefit.

Speaker 9 (07:25):
Now.

Speaker 8 (07:26):
I understand that we are going to have to reform SNAP,
but we don't have the time to do it now.
But the reform is coming, I believe because of the
sunshine that the Democrats have allowed to be shined on SNAP.
So yes, I believe that it will be reformed, just
not in this short period of time.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
That does seem reasonable.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
My concern, Congressman, is that Democrats may be setting you
guys up for a January shutdown where SNAP is secure,
military pay isn't secure, the Ice and Border patrol pay
isn't secure, The air traffic controllers, all the things you've
been fighting for and talking about on this program could
be shut down in January. Meanwhile, like the Democrats secured

(08:15):
pay for their own staff in legislative appropriations, but not
for our military. I guess that's my concern. Maybe you
could tell us how you see January working with Democrats
having now secured a key priority of THEIRS in snap,
but the Republican priorities still require their agreement to be
funded beyond January.

Speaker 8 (08:36):
Well, Matt, they did not secure their primary objective because
this CR has nothing about the Obamacare subsidies in it.
I think that's the next big fight. And yes, you're right,
January thirtieth is the next date, but hopefully we will
make progress on more appropriations bills, so whatever we do

(08:58):
will be smaller because we'll have more appropriations bills.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
To vote on now. But back to the subsidies.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
The subsidies are the next big fight, make no mistake
about it.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Yeah, and I would love to know what your position
is on how the Republican team should approach that fight
and what the right policy outcome would be.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
Well, as the Speaker said, let's get through these next
few days. Let's get the shutdown done, put the bed
over with, get our military paid, get our air traffic
controllers paid, get that done and then we can have
debate on it, because there are actually several solutions bubbling
out there. So my position is that we should not

(09:43):
be sending money directly from the federal government to the
insurance companies with no claims. So how we do that
has yet to be determined, But I think that, as
I say, I think that's the next big fight.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yeah, no doubt it will be.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Republicans will probably look for guardrails around eligibility and Democrats
will try to make you look bad politically over it. Now,
President Trump is really trying to showcase a commitment to
the federal workforce that showed up, that manned their post.
He's talking about bonuses to people who really were there
for the American people during the shutdown.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
What's your perspective on that policy.

Speaker 8 (10:23):
Well, we certainly need to applaud them, and if the
President has an idea, bring it to Congress. Because they
did what some people did not. They stood on their posts,
they did their duty, their commitment to the air traffic controllers,
certainly the military and others. Let's at least applaud them,
and let's take a look at whatever the President has

(10:45):
in mind to see if that's feasible because they do
need to be recognized and hopefully rewarded.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
These Democrats that joined with Republicans to advance the legislation
to reopen the government, they are getting absolutely slammed by
the left right now.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Is there a strategic.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Opening here where after the midterm or I'm sorry, after
the off year successes of Democrats and Blue states that
they've got a little infighting here that could drag them
down for the midterms.

Speaker 8 (11:21):
Well, for the moment, I'll reiterate, Matt, I want to
get the shutdown finished before we actually start debating the
future past the shutdowns. But I will tell you you're right,
it's showing the division and the Democrat Party. We've said
for months now that the Democrat Party is controlled by
the progressive left wing of their party, and you were

(11:42):
seeing them today take exception to these eight that have
voted with the Republicans.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Final question for you, Congressman, We've talked to a number of
times about these air traffic controllers and Transportation Secretary Sean
Duffy has said today that the delays could even extend
beyond the reopening of the government. What are you telling
your constituents to prepare for as some of the lingering
impacts of the Schumer shutdown.

Speaker 8 (12:10):
Well, Secretary Duffy has been very clear. Air traffic is
going to get worse before it gets better. There's no
doubt about it, because it will take them a while
to get spun back up. So I just tell my
constituents be prepared for long lines, delays, cancelations. It's going
to get worse before it gets better. But once we

(12:32):
get the shutdown done, it will get better, and I
believe that it will get better before that huge travel
day known as Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Texas Congressman Keith's self always someone we can check in
with to see what conservatives are fighting for on Capitol Hill.
We appreciate you joining the program as always.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Thank you, Matt and coming up.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Ed Martin, President Trump's pardon attorney, joins us to discuss
the historic pardons that President Trump issued to protect people

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Presidential pardons Trump was dishing them out. Those who were
assisting the Trump campaign and challenging the twenty twenty election
through legitimate, lawful, constitutionally contemplated means have seen tremendous harassment
from state prosecutors, local prosecutors trying to contrive some sort
of violation of criminal law because people were willing to

(15:51):
be alternate electors. People were willing to be lawyers in
states where there were still pending matters to be determined
and potentially ripe appeals. While President Trump issued to pardon
to ensure that those folks who were still facing state
prosecution have some semblance of the federal government having their back.
But just to take a listen to how Democrats were

(16:11):
talking about these folks years ago.

Speaker 12 (16:14):
Donald Trump and his band of racketeers are coming to
Georgia to be arrested. Next, one of the architects of
the conspiracy to overthrow American democracy, John Eastman, a lawyer
to the ex president and speaking of Rudy Giuliani. Last,
but certainly not least, is the former mayor of New
York and current bagman to Donald Trump and.

Speaker 13 (16:32):
Chaz Row, one of the architects of the fake elector scheme,
has a trial date scheduled for October twenty third.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Again, none of these people had criminal intent to violate
any law. They were utilizing provisions of the Constitution that
hadn't really been activated because there wasn't this type of
a question that had arisen regarding some of these processes
that have been changed as a result of COVID. Mark
Meadows is the former chief of staff to and Trump.
He received one of these pardons.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
Today.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
He was discussing the degree to which the Biden administration
was weaponizing the criminal justice system on our program. Do
you feel like you were targeted because Jack Smith was
trying to stop a Trump return?

Speaker 14 (17:14):
But I don't come in on this stuff that I
have been involved with and quite frankly still am involved
with from a legal standpoint. But I can tell you
in looking at the subpoenas and how large and voluminous
the seventeen hundred pages. It's the who's who of the
MAGA movement that was on every single one of those subpoenas,

(17:35):
and it was a chilling effect on them. Trying to
make sure.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Ed Martin is President Trump's pardon attorney at the Department
of Justice, he wrote a fifteen page letter explaining these
pardons and showcasing that there may be consequences to state
entities that continue with these highly weaponized prosecutions. Weeks ago,
at Martin came on our program and he forecasted the
type of really a restorative justice that is needed through

(18:01):
the parton process.

Speaker 13 (18:01):
Take a listen, is when the government destroys someone and
their life and their livelihood and their family, You're darn
right they should be made whole. That's real equity to
get people back to where they were before they were
weaponized against by the government.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Joining us now, the chief part of Attorney at the
United States Department of Justice Eagle Ed Martin, ed, thanks
so much for joining us again. What message was President
Trump sending with these expansive pardons?

Speaker 9 (18:28):
Thanks Matt. Great to be with you. You know, they
were when I first started as US partner attorney maybe
four months ago, five months ago, and I had a
conversation with the President. He talked about two different sort
of sets of people. One was anybody who was in
prison who might need a path out, you know, served
a long term, rehabilitated and all theirs. He's kind of

(18:48):
got a heart for that. It's a pretty extraordinary guy
and background on that. But the second group was the
people who had government weaponized against them. And on Friday,
President Trump signed this part which is expansive. You know,
nearly eighty people are covered in this pardon. Some of
them were famous Rudy Giuliani, America's mayor, you know, some

(19:08):
other folks that we know their names, but most of
them were individuals who played a role in our constitutional system,
in our elections, and they were then targeted and penalized
by the Biden administration, the so called alternate electors and
their supporters, sometimes lawyers, sometimes others. So that was the group,
and the President was clear about a month ago, maybe

(19:30):
six weeks ago, I talked to him about this group.
He said, do it, but make sure that you know,
do the research, figure it out. And then let's stand
up for these folks. And that's who was at Stay,
who was a pardon today And you know, Matt again,
across the country they see and I'm not really kidding
when I say, like a congressman like you were, or
a senator or the president or even media personalities. Most

(19:51):
of these people are people that worked in their county
party or they and they set I'll put my name
down to be an alternate elector to help in case
I'm needed in the constitutional system. And they were targeted.
They it cost them lots jobs, sometimes money and others.
And so that's who was pardoned on Friday. And we're
really proud to talk about it and encourage people to

(20:13):
be standing up and to be protected by this president.
He cares about them.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
This cohort of individuals, as you say, some famous names
like Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, Borsepstein, others who were just
certainly lacked the men's rea to commit any crime. They
thought they were participating in a constitutionally contemplated system. They
were getting chased around by state prosecutors. Walk us through
how this pardon from President Trump could impact those state

(20:44):
level prosecutions against this cohort.

Speaker 9 (20:48):
Yeah. First of all, a very important point you mentioned.
The Democrats started this first in nineteen sixty Kennedy president
then became president. Kennedy had a Hawaiian Democrat alternate electors
they signed up. Of course, they were never prosecuted. It
was lauded as having done the right thing. And that's
exactly what they did. What you know you mentioned, We

(21:09):
have seen in the last three weeks that Jack Smith
was targeting what he called a conspiracy. It seems he
was going to charge to get Trump. He was going
to charge anyone who was involved in the constitutional process
of saying did we have a good election in any way,
including these alternate electors and others, and so these people
were targeted. What happens now, Well, a pardon is a

(21:31):
pardon for federal conduct. In other words, if you're charged
under federal law, and Jack Smith wanted to do that.
He wanted to charge all these people federally in Washington,
d c. In the federal courts would have been a
disaster because they were so unfair and he knew it.
But now we have state charges. Fanny Willis down in Georgia,
prosecutors attorneys general in places like Arizona and Michigan. They're

(21:53):
targeting these electors. So what does the pardon do. Well,
it doesn't actually dismiss the state charges. But if you're
being charged with, say forgery for a document that you
signed to be an alternate elector, and the federal government
is saying, President Trump is saying there was no crime,
there was no victim, there was no cost. These are
all factors and why you would charge a state action,

(22:14):
a state crime against an individual. It will have a
big effect, I think, and also it has an effect
on an argument before a jury if you're in a
state court and before a judge, of course, but also
think it has The president knew that we were driving
home the point that twenty twenty was unlike any other
election or period of time. The misconduct by the people

(22:37):
in power after the twenty twenty election and Biden administration,
but during that time, whether it was the media or
it was the Biden folks that were fighting norm Eisen,
is it somebody who comes to mind who targeted these people.
These were people that were not playing by what we
would say is the traditional rules, and the pardon says, hey,
stand up for these folks. There's something funny going on.

(22:58):
And by the way, the twenty twenty election is now
I think we've all seen Now we all thought that
there was Arctic frost. Now there was Russia, Russia, Russia hoax.
The twenty twenty election is becoming clearer how and why
it was known will be known as the most fraudulent
election we've ever seen in our country's history.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Yeah, and I lay a good amount of the blame
for the lack of accountability at Bill barr'sfeet, because when
there were legitimate investigations that were bubbling up around the country,
Bill Barr directed that they be swept under the rug.
And now we've got this incredible team at the Department
of Justice, ag Bondi, Deputyttorney General Todd blanche yourself, that

(23:39):
the head of the Civil Rights Division, Harmy Dillon, and
you're really pursuing restorative justice. And I'm so proud of
that teamwork. Now, when Joe Biden issued pardons, you got
the swift glance of the auto pen. Here, you've got
a fifteen page letter that walks through a lot of
the really important stuff that you that we want to

(24:00):
reflect on in the wake of the twenty twenty election,
and here was what I was wondering as I was
reading it, ed, are are we creating some additional tools
in this part? In to give a heart meet Dylan
at the Civil Rights Division, some relief, some AMMO to
go after state attorneys general if in violation of this

(24:21):
pardon they continue to throw people like Rudy Giuliani and
Mark Meadows in jail.

Speaker 9 (24:28):
Well, firstual, let me go what you said, General Bondi.
When I came in to be a weaponization, you know,
committee chair ahead of it. She gave us a list
and she said go after it. And Todd Blanch you mentioned,
he said go after it. He's a dag Harmy Dillon
is fearless. It's fantastic. But you're exactly right, Matt. Look,
you know, when you're making an argument both in terms

(24:48):
of the public perception but also in terms of how
do we get to the bottom of this, and when
we see that Jack Smith and by the way, the
Jack Smith Special Council is also part of my weaponization,
and we've been looking at that closely. You can see
when you look at what he was doing, she was
the one with a conspiracy. The conspiracy that Jack Smith
was running was across the country to try to build

(25:10):
this network to take away citizens' rights. Just what you said, Matt.
If you take away someone's rights to right to vote,
right to access to the system, take away their freedom,
and you use a network of individuals, especially if they're
in power, attorneys general, prosecutors. Look Fanny Willis, Letitia James,

(25:32):
Alvin Bragg. These people didn't come up with these theories.
There was a management. We know they were the White House.
They were sending staffers from the DOJ into Alvin Bragg's office.
That's guy Colangelo.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
You know all this.

Speaker 9 (25:43):
So the fact is there's a conspiracy and a network
that was used against the American people. This pardon not
only gives protection, but it also shines a light. And
I'll tell you. I gotta tell you, Matt says, you'll
love the story. I told the President about this early
on and he said to me, that's good. We should
do it. And he said, but go and write this
up just when you described, And he said, write it

(26:03):
up so people see it, because they can't just see
a pardon. They need to see the why behind it.
And when they see the why, they go, huh, this
thing is way off balance. And as you mentioned my
top choice for attorney general didn't get it. He said,
they now be an immedia guy, but the other everybody
else bonding Blanche myself, armony. We're getting after this, and
I really think we're going to break this hoax and

(26:24):
the country again can move on from it because we're
able to get to the bottom of it.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
It's a great team you've got there now. And we
are also following this other story regarding the pipe bomb.
I was called a conspiracy theorist when I raised questions
about the person who left the pipe bomb and why
we couldn't find them and why the basic law enforcement
work really it didn't seem to have been endeavored upon.
Are you following the reporting out of the Blaze where

(26:53):
they are saying that the pipe bomber had a connection
to Capitol police and do you have any viewpoint on
that yet?

Speaker 9 (27:00):
Well, I want to be careful because I got kind
of over the weekend. People thought I knew something that
I didn't know, and so let me be a little careful.
But I'll tell you a quick story. When I was
US attorney that the investigation was run out of my office,
just the DC US attorney. I called in the prosecutors.
I called in the FBI, Bongino was in already. Bongino
beefed up the FBI agents on that and put a
lot more attention on it. And let me say, over

(27:22):
the weekend, Dan called me to say, hey, I want
to give you a quick update, and I he gave
what he gave me an update on was to say this,
we've been pushing on the front. Look the pipe bomber,
mister coffee, the guy that built the gallows. You know
some of the things that were happening on that day.
Jay six, my weaponization group, we have that in our
J six is in our our investigation too. So I

(27:43):
will just say this, Bongino's on it and is pushing,
and I'm confident we're going to find these people and
we're going to get them.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
The lead a partner attorney at the US Department of Justice,
Ed Martin, Thanks as always for coming on the program and.

Speaker 2 (27:57):

and changes betting markets that impact all Americans. We'll talk
about it with World series pitcher John Rocker.

Speaker 15 (30:47):
Well, the peculiar love affair between this city and a
guy who has said something to offend just about every
one of these people continues as John Rocker makes his
second appearance.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
That's World Series could John Rocker?

Speaker 1 (31:00):
And He'll be here in moments to react to news
that is sending shockwaves through Major League Baseball. Two pitchers
have been charged with federal crimes for participating in a
scheme revolving proposition betting, and literally throwing the first pitch
out of the strike zone take a listen.

Speaker 16 (31:17):
Killing Martian's pitchers Emmanuel Plase and Luis Ortiz were charged
with fraud conspiracy and bribery today. These charges semming from
an alleged scheme to ring individual pitches that led to
gamblers winning hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to federal prosecutors.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
Prosecutors say over the last two years, the players telegraphed
their pitches to conspirators who then bet on the pitches
and profited, sharing the winnings with class A and Ortiz.

Speaker 6 (31:43):
Specifically, they were charged with manipulating pitches first pitches of
innings to be a ball or a strike, or will
a pitch be faster or slower than, for example, ninety
five miles per hour.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
And they included this image in the indictment, the ball
hitting the dirt, and they say the betters won fifty
eight thousand dollars because of that pitch.

Speaker 6 (32:06):
Indictment's alleged that these conspirators were able to win four
hundred and fifty thousand dollars throughout the scheme, which started
back in twenty twenty three. They would put these wagers
into parlayies to kind of escalate the payment.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Thirty percent of US adults report having placed a wager
on US sports in the last twelve months. Some of
that is through fantasy sports proposition bets bets on teams.
But this story that we just got from Major League
Baseball rings so similar to the story that we just
saw through the allegations against basketball players. In particular, the

(32:42):
allegation against Terry Rozier of the Miami Heat is that
when he played for the Charlotte Hornets, he pulled himself
out of a game early, feigning an injury so that
he could then collect on the under for his proposition
for that particular game. Again, those are allegations, and Rosier
has the ability to contest them in court. But here
you have two pictures for the Cleveland Guardians essentially doing

(33:03):
the same thing, agreeing to throw balls so that people
could go collect a prop bet.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Off of it.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
And with so many people participating in sports, and with
these allegations now spanning two sports, we wonder whether or
not professional sports are even real, and that has an
impact on our societal fabric. President Trump talked about how
meaningful sports are in the United States.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Take a listen time baseball, I G I, Vascar races.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
What is it about sports? You enjoy the ball?

Speaker 11 (33:29):
I just love it.

Speaker 17 (33:30):
It's a microcosm of life and It's sort of like life,
you know, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Right, you can equate sports with life.

Speaker 17 (33:38):
You know, you have the triumph and you have the problems,
and you had to get through the problems to hit
the triumphs.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
And you can never quit. You can never give up.

Speaker 9 (33:47):
Joining us now.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Former World Series pitcher for the Atlanta Braves and former
picture for the Cleveland Indians and a number of other teams.
John Rocker, So, John, I knew I wanted to have
you on when I saw this major indictment out of
the Department of Justice to Cleveland pitch charged with throwing
balls on the first pitch to pay off prop bets.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
What's your reaction.

Speaker 18 (34:07):
I didn't know anything about it until Louis. You guys
kind of miss morning to come on and speak about it,
you know, utterly amazed, you know, and basically I looked
at you. I don't watch a lot of baseball anymore,
especially not you know, Cleveland. I watched it Land every
once in a while, and him playoff baseball, don't. I
don't sit and watch, you know, four or five games
a week, So not familiar with either one of these pitchers.

(34:28):
Did some research on him this morning. And you know
Klay's for one thing. You know, he's on a on
a fourth year of a five year deal, making four
point nine million dollars this year. And you know, I
got a calculator, so I did the math, and he
went through forty seven innings all year. That's one hundred
and four thousand dollars per inning, say on average, And

(34:52):
you'd like to so much less of this. That means
you have a good outing. But say on average, he's
throwing twenty pitches per inning, that's fifty two hundred dollars
per pitch. To cheat gamble at, he's only making five
thousand bucks.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
But what would you.

Speaker 18 (35:05):
Possibly be thinking. I mean, you're making a one hundred
thousand dollars on inming and you care about five thousand dollars.
What's the matter with you?

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Yeah, that was the craziest part of the story to me.
Like you played the game with this like deep passion.
You went out there, you evoked these strong emotions on
both sides. You played with these legends like Andrew Jones,
Chipper Jones, the pitchers.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Like Glavin and Maddox.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Like the notion that any of these players would have
would have thrown a ball to get paid five thousand dollars,
or would have taken a strike to get paid five
thousand dollars. It's just crazy to me, Like, do you
think there's a new generation of player in Major League
Baseball for whom the grift is more important than.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
The game make you?

Speaker 18 (35:49):
So that's one thing, you know, you say gambling is
an addiction. I mean for you know, first of all,
there's not even a wager there. You're just okay, I'll
take your bride. I mean, where's the you know, I
gave maybe one or two college football games a weekend
just it makes the game more exciting for me. You know,
I ordinarily wouldn't like watching Vanderbilt and Auburn, but I've
got a hundred bucks on it. I've got a vested

(36:11):
interest in who wins this game.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Now.

Speaker 18 (36:12):
Otherwise I'm just you know, kind of sitting there, you know,
past the time, so that there is some excitement when
you've got money on it. But if you're just taking
a bribe of five grand to spike a fastball, I
clearly do not understand that. When you're making they you know,
let's make it interesting. And if over the course of
a year, I could double my salary. I see where

(36:33):
the temptation lies. But I mean, what is what does
I mean that right there literally is is a night out?
I mean form a major league baseball player, a night
out of New York and not out in Vegas. Graham, No, Rob,
I don't understand the motivation at all.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
I wonder if when you played you ever had suspicion
that something was driving the competitive performance other than true merit.
Did you ever think other players coaches had any action
on on any game or on any prop bet.

Speaker 18 (37:04):
No, not not at all, Not at all. I tell
you one thing, Matt, that did. I was talking to
some folks today about this this subject. You know, college
players aren't aren't making near the kind of money. Of course,
n I l u. There are some college baseball players,
you know, throughout the course of a twenty five or
thirty man roster. I don't know what what a college
roster is. I think it's about thirty. There may be
half a dozen guys that are making you know, some

(37:26):
some some six figure money. But I guarantee if they're
getting the big league guys, they're definitely getting the college guys.
For some of these big prop bets, you know, and
a Super eight regional Jordan versus Tennessee. Yeah, you bet
you're there. They're probably probably getting there fiddling with the
you know, fiddled with a closer, fiddled with a setup guy,
you know, something like that. I bet you, I bet
you anything. They are because give it to a college

(37:47):
kid not making nil five grand, you know, maybe some
most significant money.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
No, it's really true that that the problem may stemm
beyond the professional athletics, but it's just so weird. We've
seen in the NBA the Terry Rozier indictment because he
left a game early and then split up the cash
with his buddies on a prop bet.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Now you're seeing this in baseball.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
This may be more prevalent in sports today than when
you played, just because of the fantasy bets that are
so prevalent. Like and when you were playing the game,
you didn't have DraftKings, Fan Duel, some of these platforms
that allow all of these prop bets. So maybe it's
something they got to police a little.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
More about the game. John Rocker, the Great World Series Closer.

Speaker 18 (38:27):
Thank you just infiltrated everything. You're right, Matt, all.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
Right, John Rocker, Thanks is always for coming on and
sharing your expertise.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
We appreciate him, man, We thank you. Bett.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
California is still reeling following the election result on Proposition fifty,
where about two thirds of voters agreed with Governor knew
Some wiping five Republican congressional districts off the map. That's
going to have consequences that reverberate throughout the country. But
Steve Hilton is a Republican running for governor of California,
and he was more optimistic about what campaigns look like

(42:24):
when there are actual candidates attached.

Speaker 19 (42:27):
Prop fifty if you look at the actual substance of
it was about something very obscure for regular people, very
detached from their daily life, redistricting, who draws the maps,
the Democrat machine, the corrupt machine with the government union
money and all of that. They had way more the
sorrow's money coming in from out of state they had
had after ad That made it very simple. It's all

(42:48):
about Trump. If you don't like Trump, vote for Prop fifty.
And that was successful because it wasn't relatable to your
daily life.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
Is California State Representative David Tangi joins US now Representative.
You're one of the voices we trust in Sacramento. What's
your read on the results following Proposition fifty's overwhelming passage.

Speaker 5 (43:10):
Well, it's actually something I talked about fairly often. I'd
never look at the party in charge here in California
and the Democratic Party and say it's their fault. And
I don't do that because what am I supposed to
blame them for doing everything they said they were going
to do and winning. What I look at is internally,
and I do believe that some conservative complacency here in
California is part of our biggest issue. But that just

(43:33):
means that the people here aren't motivated and we have
elected leaders and people in this state who want to
fight for this state have to do a better job.
Over six million people in the twenty twenty four election
voted for President Trump. We only had three point five
million no votes on Prop fifty. That means almost three

(43:54):
million people who voted for President Trump couldn't get on
board to just earn in their ballots. And that's something
that we have to really focus and fix. And that
means we need to do a better job at energizing
the voters of California, the ones who know that this
place isn't working to get their ballots in earlier.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
That's on us. What issues do you think will motivate
the most.

Speaker 5 (44:19):
We've got to talk about the issues of what California
really is in Let's look at this Prop fifty campaign.
The party in charge, all they did was create this
emotional monster. They drove people and they said, look at
Donald Trump, look at Donald Trump, Look at Donald Trump.
And they worked on trying to create him as a villain,
and that drove a lot of their people out. What

(44:40):
we needed to focus on is look at the state
of California. If we had to take on that Texas argument,
because it was the number one argument, well, if Texas
is doing it, why not us?

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Well?

Speaker 5 (44:51):
Why nots also say well, if Texas has two dollars
and fifty cent gas, why not us?

Speaker 9 (44:56):
Well?

Speaker 5 (44:56):
If Texas has three hundred thousand dollars home valuations as
an average crossed state, why not US?

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Well?

Speaker 5 (45:01):
If Texas has utility costs that are significantly better than
the state of California's, why not us? And if we're
going to look at the issues that our state has
from housing, from uninsured, from insurance, from wildfires, from the
mismanagement and the dereliction and negligence from our elected officials,
why should we send that nationally? That should have been

(45:22):
our argument. We should have talked about the issues.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
That plague us.

Speaker 5 (45:26):
One of the things that I presented on the floor
that I thought was something that resonated very well with
people is that ten months ago, under the Biden administration,
the average home costs in the state of California was
eight hundred and fifty thousand. We had the highest unemployment
and the highest poverty rates in the nation. Now under
the Trump administration as well, which the majority of his

(45:48):
policies didn't even come into fruition until October first, our
average home price in the state of California is eight
hundred and fifty thousand dollars. We have the highest poverty
and the highest employment. It looks like to me that
the common denominator is this state's leadership and the supermajority
and Sacramento we should have driven that home. It's something

(46:09):
that we're going to have to reassess and we're going
to have to talk about more.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
When I played football for Presdo State, we talked about.

Speaker 5 (46:14):
Our losses and all you can do is clean your guns,
burrier dead, reassess, and get better. And I'm hopeful that
we can keep getting better. And that's why the day
after this election, we were prepared from our group and
the CGOP to sue Gavin Newsom and the Supermajority off
of violation and these unconstitutional maps because we're always going
to keep fighting.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
What is the status of that litigation plan and do
you think it will provide relief? Before the maps are redrawn,
the elections are conducted, and the Republicans are wiped off
the map.

Speaker 5 (46:48):
I think so, I think it actually is going to keep.
Is going to give us a fighting chance. Because we
are suing this state for violating the Voter Rights Act,
they have to provide strict justification for why they decided
to use race as a means for their redistricting. When
Paul Mitchell, who finally admitted that he drew the maps,

(47:09):
came out and said I drew sixteen Latino majority districts. Well,
under Supreme Court case Jingles, they come up with the
strict guidelines on whether they can use that as a justification.
The Hispanic population in the state of California. It has
a plurality here. We have no true minority. Not only that.
Where I think and why I'm the main plaintiff on

(47:31):
this case is I now live in a voter rights
congressional districts because of the way they drew this map.
I represent a majority white district.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
And I am Polynesian.

Speaker 5 (47:44):
I am the most minority in the state of California.
I'm the first ever Polynesian elected to the state legislature.
So we can prove that the white majority districts actually
don't constitute a barrier for minorities. There is there's no
justification for more minority Latino districts when they are the

(48:05):
largest population in the state of California and they have
systematically dismantled other minority voices by doing this.

Speaker 1 (48:15):
We will follow that litigation closely. The entire balance of
power in the country may depend on it. And we
think as Gavin Newsom gets this presidential campaign geared up,
we're gonna want to hear a lot more from you
throughout the country regarding how things have been in California
and really what the plan is to recenter the state
and get the policies in place to allow people to thrive.

(48:36):
State Representative David Tangipa, thank you as always for joining
us and sharing your perspective.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
It's great to join you.

Speaker 5 (48:42):
We need everybody, no California conservatives of the frontlines combating crazy.
So if they don't want to import California into their states,
and at the presidential level, if Gavin Newsom's running for
president for the next four years, We're going to keep
fighting them all the way there. I'm going to make
sure everybody else ends this toxic really ship with Governor Newson.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
We're glad you're working on it. Thank you so much.
Representative and coming out.

Speaker 1 (49:06):
President Trump has announced a plan to ensure that Americans
get a dividend from the tariff strategy. We've got a
key economists here to discuss what that means for the
American productivity agenda and what it means for your pocketbook.

Speaker 2 (49:19):
Don't go anywhere.

Hey, did you know that One America News Network has
launched a twenty four to seven Twitter like social media replacement.
We're calling it free Talk forty five. So why is
it branded free Talk forty five. Well, free talk because
you will not be censored for expressing your opinion there,
and forty five because forty five is a really lucky number.

(51:23):
So join us at free Talk forty five and express
yourself with no fear of cancelation.

Speaker 17 (51:30):
Ever, your tariffs are going to be over at trillion
dollars a year. In my opinion, we're going to do something.
We're looking at something where number one, we're paying down
debt because people have allowed the debt to go crazy.
With that being said, we'll pay back debt, but we

(51:50):
also might make a distribution to the people, almost like
a dividend to the people of America.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
How much are you thinking for that, sir.

Speaker 17 (51:57):
Well, we're thinking maybe one thousand to two thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (52:01):
Great, that was our very.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
Own Daniel Baldwin, chief White House correspondent for One American News,
interviewing President Trump exclusively, and President Trump made some news
then forecasting the possibility of a tariff dividend distributed directly
to the American people, and lo and behold, here we
are President Trump now posting on truth Social that the
tariff dividend is something that he's directing his senior administration

(52:22):
officials to pursue two thousand dollars on the higher end
as a result of this really major change in policy
that some said would ruin the economy, but now could
lead Americans to having a little bit more cash in
that bank account. It's now The executive director of Unleashed
Prosperity Tim Desher, So, Tim, what's your reaction to President
Trump's direction to his administration to send out a two

(52:45):
thousand dollars check as the tariff dividend.

Speaker 15 (52:49):
My reaction is, hold on, let's pump the brakes for
a second. Let's look at what we're doing before we
do this. That's my immediate reaction. Matt.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
Well, and what do you think could be the consequences
of such a policy were implemented.

Speaker 15 (53:04):
The only reason I'm saying we should pump the brakes
is because we don't know how much it's going to cost.
And we're talking about all this revenue that we're bringing
in from the tariffs, and Matt, that's a very very
good thing we're seeing now that you know, because of
this and because of economic growth and things like that,
we've actually reduced that budget deficit that we always talk about.
We're down two percent now on the year.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
Matt.

Speaker 15 (53:24):
That's a big deal that we've cut into this thing.
That's a huge accomplishment for President Trump. It's still small.
We need to go way more, but that's because we're
bringing in this revenue. It's not because we're spending more
like President Biden did during COVID, sending out checks and
spending on projects and things that we didn't need to do.
So the question is is do you want to throw

(53:46):
money out in the form of steamless checks or do
you want to keep putting the pedal to the metal
and start paying down the debt part paying down the
deficit and go for those bond ratings and go for
the fiscal health of this nation. And I think that
that's what we have to look at, Matt.

Speaker 1 (54:00):
And President Trump did also float using this revenue as
a debt reduction strategy. If that happens, do you think
that it would accelerate the cuts and interest rates and
free up more capital.

Speaker 15 (54:11):
Yeah, it's a good question, Matt. But I think the
problem though, is is that how much are you going
to bring in? I mean, I've seen estimates that these
two thousand dollars checks could cost up to six hundred
billion dollars. I mean, that's that's far more than what
we brought in so far from tariffs. I mean, I
know he says we're going to bring in trillions, but
that's over ten years. So when you start sending out

(54:31):
payments like this, that really does cut into it. Now,
if we do start paying down the debt, absolutely, I
think that we're going to start seeing the fiscal health
and the in things like interest rates come down. Because
it looks at the totality of the economy. It's not
just interest rates when we cut, because.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
We see Matt.

Speaker 15 (54:48):
You know, look the Fed cuts interest rates, and mortgage
rates actually went up when we did that. Why that's
because there is some consternation currently with the tariffs, and
you see banks just kind of ump in the brakes
and taking it easy a little bit on that. So
I do think fiscal health is important, and I think
that pedal to the metal and don't take the bait
on sending checks sort of this populous mentality.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
We got to.

Speaker 15 (55:11):
Pump the brakes on that at this point and make
sure that we are doing what we need to do
and paying down that debt thirty eight trillion dollars Matt,
and the one point eight trillion in budget deficit.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
I am always a fan of deficit and debt reduction,
and it's just so funny how members of both parties
squeal whenever there's any reduction in spending, and thus this
as a delivery system for any resources for debt and
deficit reduction seems to be very appealing to me. I
do want to talk about us emerging out of this shutdown.
We heard Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy say, they're going to

(55:45):
be impacts to travel that go beyond just the reopening
of the government. What are you watching as the government
reopens to see that the productivity agenda of President Trump
is reignited.

Speaker 15 (55:58):
Yeah, well, first of all, you're right, I mean, travel
industry has been losing a billion dollars a week since
the government was shut down. And let's also point back
to COVID, Matt. I mean, I know that we bailed
out the airlines, you know, some sixty billion with a
b dollars, But if you're flying regularly, Matt, just like
I am, you know that things have not been the
same since the COVID lockdowns. They have not been the

(56:20):
same in airline travel, They've not been the same, at restaurants,
they have not been the same, in retail, not been
the same in all across the economy. And yeah, these
are disruptions that do cause maybe permanent damage to the economy.
And that's exactly why this Chuck Schumer shutdown, as we've
talked about in the past, is so delinquent, it is

(56:42):
so damaging, and it is so bad that they that
they have pursued this route, because yeah, there will be
a ripple effect on this. You don't just shut something down.
You don't just you know, get in the way of
these complex systems and then just expect it to go
back to normal. That's what communists do. That's what they
think they can troll the economy. That's not a dynamic

(57:02):
free market system like the one we run.

Speaker 1 (57:06):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
