This episode is all about crack open moments.

A crack open moment is a catastrophic, life-altering event that changes you.  It's rock bottom.  It's that moment when things feel completely out of control or hopeless.  It’s being at your most vulnerable and then surrendering to the moment.

For Laura Scarpati and Whitney Guerrero, their rock bottoms became a turning point in their lives. It cracked them open, sparked a shift, a wake-up call, a new sense of clarity that pushed them toward growth. It’s painful, it sucks, it’s not easy, but it can also be the moment where a new chapter begins.

Laura and Whitney discuss their crack open moments, the journey through them and how these incomparable, catastrophic events reframed their inner dialogue, their belief systems and ultimately changed them for the better.  They discuss how these moments affect not only them, but those close to them.  They also theorize around how crack open moments look different for others but are likely common and show up in many different ways throughout our lives.

Whitney Guerrero spent years in the world of software and startups before stepping away from her 9-to-5 to focus on something she’d been longing for—more time with her family and a little more room to breathe. Whitney has four children, all of whom she loves fiercely: two spunky daughters at home and two beautiful children in heaven. When her first daughter, Olivia, was born with a severe and life-limiting neuromuscular disease, Whitney began speaking openly online about her family’s journey with undiagnosed rare disease, child loss, and living through grief. Since then, she has navigated pregnancy after loss, parenting after loss, and a second child loss—when her son Rory passed away from the same disease in 2019.

Through her honest conversations and writing online, Whitney hopes to provide practical support and connection to others navigating unthinkable loss.

You can find her on Instagram, where she documents #momlife while delighting in good quotes and coffee.
