Speaker 1 (00:06):
And good evening and welcome. It is bucks Line. Matt
McCoy with our crew Jeff Logan, Roy Hall, Bill Conley,
we are with you till eight o'clock on six to
ten WTVNS bucks Line. We kick off the show with
a special announcement because I've had many of you that
do a great job every week emailing me things asking

(00:26):
about what's happened in Michigan Week. What's happening? Are we
doing the thing again? Yes, we're doing the thing again. Yes,
we officially lock down the details, but it's going to
be bucks Line live again. It's the Monday of Michigan Week,
so that is November twenty fourth. Coach Conley, Jeff Roy,
We're all going to be there and broadcast live from

(00:47):
Edison Brewing Company. It's our fifth annual event. There's going
to be as Roy always brings a lot of special
guests former football players that will be there. Tickets are
forty nine dollars. It includes a ticket house. Taco is
going to provide the food, a lot of great stuff
if you have a man cave and stuff, a silent auction,
different memorabilias, giveaways, autographs, the whole nine yards tickets are

(01:14):
online and available now. So if you would like to
do this again forty nine dollars, you go to buckslnelive
dot com. We have sold this thing out every year,
usually pretty quickly. I imagine it's gonna be no different.
So buckslne live dot com And again, just like before,

(01:34):
each ticket you purchase can to help provide a family
with a food box this holiday season through Roy's Driven Foundation.
Is your seventeenth annual food outreach for the holidays. Does
it seem like seventeen years?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, here we go with this age thing again.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
I don't know like that.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Come on, man, it does not seem like seventeen years.
I don't know how it happens this way. I mean,
all you guys can attest to it. You're just a
little bit older than me, but just a little bit.
But it's just to be able to serve at a
consistent level and do your best to use your life
to make a difference as best as you can.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
To go through the various.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Challenges in life, pandemics and you know, financial challenges that
people go through, you know, whether it be grants being
available and then not available, having corporate partners one year
and not the next year, not because you did anything wrong,
just maybe they can't.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Give that particular year.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Maybe they decided to give to another cause that was
just as worthy of the support. Individual donors going up
and down with giving, Like when you're a nonprofit organization
of our caliber, of our size. Anyway, it's a fight
every day to try and figure out ways to be
creative to give and get support. And so if we're

(02:56):
dealing with this, I can only imagine what the families
are going through and what individuals are going through trying
to figure out how to just put food on their table.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Especially now you got this.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
System of you got organizations like the Driven Foundation and others,
Middle High Food Collective. It just different organizations that are
doing great things for families and people in general. But
we are fighting to get organizations and corporate partners and
people to give to us so that we can then
go and deploy ourselves into neighborhoods and give to those

(03:26):
families who are fighting just to get food on their table.
So this is a creative way for us to raise
some money to be able to serve and give back.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Man.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
So in seventeen years, I haven't felt more enthused and
empowered and passionate about what we do and how we
do it.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
So the fifth annual.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Bucks Line Live Beat Michigan event is going to be awesome.
The only negative part about our event in four years,
five years, we're oering four against Michigan.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
We started doing this event. We got to do something different. Yeah,
I'm thinking about walking in backwards. We got to figure.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Out something, man, because it's just not working right now.
I don't know what's going on. So we got to
we got to figure out a new tradition or something.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Okay, I think what a good tradition would be if
Logan family sells these whoope pots. That was next, Yes,
an absolute fortune.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
The other that's the big news again bucks Linelive dot
com forty nine dollars and you just heard Roy talk
about why it's so important boy, especially right now. Uh,
to help get food on the table for people. But
the second part of it is Dean Logan last week
on Bill's No. Nine Enemy, the state dessert of Pennsylvania,

(04:47):
which we found out because of penn State is the
whoopie pie. And she did us up. How long did
first of all, how long did it take her to
make all these whoope pies.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
It's a couple of day process, but I want you
to understand that it came a direct result of a
plea by and I got home that night after the
show and she was looking at me. She goes, she's serious,
and I told you dead serious.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
So yeah, So Dina and Katie both are in New
York City right now, enjoying Broadway and doing their things.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Hamilton. Yeah, well they're not seeing Hamilton.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
They're seeing some other things, but they're they're at a
variety of shows and and hopefully the airplane shortage won't
screw them up getting home tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
But they wanted to make.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Sure that we had these There's a there is peanut butter,
there is the traditional vanilla, and then Roy asked for
something with lots of chocolate chips. And so you guys
each have a package, and I want you to enjoy the.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Whole package is mine, that's yours, bell you go. Gosh,
was like for the room. Everybody's got a package. It
was like Oprah. As happy as Roy Hall is. My
son Jonathan is going to be thrilled with you. Don't share,
don't share?

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Is there a way in right now and away? In
a week from now.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, we don't need to do any of that, just
to keep it to ourselves. But thank you missus Logan
for this. Yeah, to enjoy yourselves.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
But you're right though, you know, the mission of the
Driven Foundation is critically important. But we have to do
something different this year in advance. So Matt, put your
thinking cap on. We'll try to figure it out.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
If anybody has suggestions, also something different at Matt McCoy
radio on Twitter, Matt McCoy at iHeartMedia dot com.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I have one on top. Okay, we need to do
know thatine enemy earlier.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Maybe we could kick off the show.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I think we need to keep off maybe the first
segment to set everybody and then right into it's the
best part of the.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Show, So I am good, you know what I mean,
I am good.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Go forward and then then we can actually have people
talk about what we said.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I like that you give them two segments, you know,
the second and third segment.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
They're kind of short, so maybe he gets you know
what I mean, this is what we're gonna do when
we come back from break.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
We go do the cities or something.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
That's the best part.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Yeah, why don't you just bring the heat at various
times throughout the evening.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
For sure, I like that's what we need.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I like that that's good. Well, I tell you, as
frustrated as we might be and trying to change that
recent history with our bucks line live. If you're a
Penn State fan boyl boy, you cannot beat Ohio State.
I give them credit.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Roy.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
They hung in there for the first half. I felt
like Ohio State took their best swing. They had an
extra week off. They are a talented team that's struggling
zero to four. They got the big turnover at the
end of the half to kind of make it close.
But I thought it was a very good performance. Other
than the fumble near the end of the half, which
was a questionable call. I thought Roy was a really

(07:52):
good performance by Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, they played really well.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
I love the adjustments they were making to some of
that zone coverage. I think coach Knowle's Penn State's de
coordinator and our former tried to have some safeties and
just sit back and play up high, not really understanding that.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
To be honest, cover two is not the best way
to go.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
As you can see, you can easily inside release and
put your wide receivers with a full head of steem,
like they're playing an arena ball on a safety and
they can't cover receivers. And so we found how to
exploit a cover two for anybody. Football for dummies, Football
one on one says, if you got cover two and
you got the time to block up front, run those

(08:35):
receivers right at those safeties and put them on a
two way go. And that's what you started seeing happening,
where they're like, we don't even care about the corners.
We just gonna go with these safeties, and those guys
couldn't hang with them. I was a little bit disappointed,
not disappointed, but we saw what can happen if somebody
actually just tries to run the ball and focus on.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
That running off tackle.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Now, we did make some plays defensively in a couple adjustments,
but if you understand what Michigan is going to do.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
We talked about them for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
They are okay with gaining three three and a half
four yards to carry and Penn State showed what you
can do with an extra office algnment and there overall,
the Buckeys obviously played well, but they did see we
did see those guys get beat up a little bit
in the run game early on.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Yeah, you know, it was entertaining to watch the first
quarter because you saw things you haven't seen for decades.
I mean as huddles that come out and sprint up
to the line of scrimmage. Then they'd shift or motion
or do both. And I thought they did a good
job early of getting their alignement on our perimeter.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Yeah, you know, the big on a little and got
some plus out of it. But it was all said
and done, the biggest gain of the day was their first.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
First play, Yeah, gained twenty five yards, and then after
that they did a pretty good job on case run.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Total rushing yards for them because of the negative yards
on quarterback sacks and tackles for a loss was only
fifty five yards rushing.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
You know, in the game.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
But when you start talking about the team up north,
and I can promise you that nobody over in the
Woody Hayes facility is talking about the team up north yet.
But we all do know that you've got to prove
that you can stop the run in the month of November.
You've got to be able to do that. Not so
much a battle of who's going to win the run game.
How about just stop the run games?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
All right?

Speaker 5 (10:16):
I think that's really one of the keys to be
able to win. The other thing is Bill you mentioned
Ohio Penn State came out with a lot of different
stuff that they had not shown throughout the year. So
they invested heavily in that two week period of time
getting their football team ready for the game. But I
would suggest to you guys, we saw a lot of
personnel packages with our Ohio State football team that they

(10:40):
stirred the pot too during that two week period of time.
So it's not just sit on your laurels and expect
that you're going to continue to do the same thing.
There were a lot of different looks for Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Yeah, that was interesting, almost like they were going to
show they could do it too. But it probably was
part of the game plan to be working on for
a long time. Me some different personnel groupings and again
multiple sets with different motions and shifts, and you know
what is it entertained to watch?

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Sure was Yeah, I'll tell you what. If you watch
hockey or a hockey fan, it felt like line changes
at time. Yeah, you know, all right, third line going,
you know, with the way Ohio State was rotating in personnel.
We continue to talk bout eyes on bucks line a minute.
Right now, let's get you home. Six ten wtvn's Traffic
and Weather Together, Service of Day and Night, Heating and

(11:33):
Cooling products and London Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Rams New All
Service Center. And here is Johnny Hill.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
It's going to start.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Welcome back to box line. Matt McCoy along with Bill Conley,
Roy Hall, and Jeff Logan. We're with you until eight
o'clock on bucks Line to night. Saturday's game one o'clock
at Purdue. It's on the Big ten Network and an
unusual kick off time one o'clock. The last time Ohio
State played a regular season game that kicked off at
one o'clock, Roy Hall was on the football team. It's

(12:11):
just a couple of years of the Michigan game of
two thousand and five kicked off. This is a random
on fact, kicked off at one o'clock and that was
the last time Ohios State's played a regular season game
at one But why are you?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Why are you doing this?

Speaker 1 (12:27):
This? This is not meant to be it anytime I
bring you up with do you think it's an age thing?

Speaker 2 (12:32):
It's the last time you boys, get it?

Speaker 3 (12:35):
The last time Ohio State played a one o'clock game.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Roy Hall was playing in two thousand and five.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Twenty years ago, like the ages, What are we doing?

Speaker 6 (12:44):
Man?

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, whenever you talk about Jeff when he played like
one of the greatest returners of all time, jeffan your day.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
It was a great time and you played with it.
What do you know? Like, but when I played twenty
years ago was the last time? Come on, man, It's
just I didn't be like that.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
At least he didn't say were you wearing a helmet?

Speaker 2 (13:05):
That's right?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Well, how about this one from Twitter? And I'll direct
it at you, Royce, since you're mad at me and
you can tweet at me. I'm at at Matt McCoy
radio from Joe. I got this this week. Have there
ever been two first team All American receivers from the
same school? Do you think Jeremiah Smith and Carnells Tate
will do it this year? I did look it up,
and I don't know if there's been more than this,

(13:27):
but it just happened. A few years ago. Jamar Chase
and Justin Jefferson at LSU were first team All American receivers.
And by the way, their quarterback was Joe Burrow in
Ohio state is a good one, as Julian saying, But
are there two better receivers that you've seen in the
country than these two guys?

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Not right now.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
I guess if you not on the same team, you
know there's a there's a kid out at usc.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
They got a Ryan Williams at Alabama.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
He's had he's had an up and down year.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yes, he's had injuries.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
There's a receiver I believe in Arizona State. Yeah, that's
supposed to be a hm.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
I was gonna says.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
And again we're in Columbus, in Ohio on this side
of you know, the country, and we're hearing all about
our receivers. But I bet West Coast they're talking about
those guys. But the skill set of Carnell, I mean,
you can it depends on what receiver you like. I mean,
you got Julio Jones type and Jeremiah Smith, But I
like Carnell.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
He reminds me of like Chad Ochosinko, Chad Johnson.

Speaker 7 (14:27):
Long legs, big strider, tough, difficult catch, quick in short spaces,
six three and a half or so, both of those
guys are going to be first team All American on
somebody's list one.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
You know, it might not be the same list, but
on somebody's list, they're both going to be first team
All American receivers. Like you said, we got a great quarterback.
They're just playing lights out right now because our offense
is really productive. Our third receiver in Brandon Innis, he
has a couple catches but nothing.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
But we got two.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Guys and then we got tight ends and that's kind
of our offense. So our third receiver is more the
tight end than a slot guy. And I think that's
why those guys numbers are so are so massive right now.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
You know what's amazing about the team this year, a
couple of guys who weren't even mentioned as All American
type guys. One of them was Carnel Tate, who's having
a great year and he's earned it all this year.
He's got all the recognition he deserves because he's playing
great and RVL recent linebackers. Yeah right, and those guys
are just guys.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Yeah. I shared with you guys the ESPN mel Kiper
and field Yates did a mock draft three of the
top five guys in their mock draft are Ohio State players.
And to your point, Bill, I mean at the beginning
of the year, no one would have thought. I think
people thought Carnell Tate was gonna be good. But top
five good, but the three are Rvel Reevees. No one

(15:46):
saw that coming, Carnell Tate and Caleb Downs. Caleb Downs,
I think that we saw.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
I think we all believe that Caleb Downs would be
a first round draft pick. I think he was the
best at his position anywhere in the country. Jeremiah Smith
not yet eligible for the draft, but he certainly would.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Have been that way.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yea, and no one, no one. You talk about r
Vel all you want to.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
No one saw Julian Sayan comeing to the top like
he has, and he is ineligible for the draft one
more season after this makes him eligible. He'll hang around
for a couple more years, won't he.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Guys we had the question earlier is that with ni
l you know, would Jeremiah come back and be a
four year never at Matthew, I get it, I get it.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Some of those things got our Vel is the number
two pick in the draft.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
That's a crazy deal, though, when you watch him play,
he like he almost like I don't know everything about defense,
but it seems like every play he does a perfect
job at whatever his job is, Like like, I don't.
He doesn't miss tackles, He's always running around. He's so
physical at the point of attack. I saw him take
out a fullback, saw him take out a tight end,

(17:00):
and the way he just manhandles tackles.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
This is unbelievable. Man. I'm like, man, this makes that
number funny.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Story about Saturday is I sit up there with Jeff
and Bill and it was the third quarter and Jeff goes,
you know, Harville Reese has had kind of a quiet game,
and then like next.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Play, sack.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Play after that, he chases down a guy on one
of their wide screens and tackles him for a long
He had like three plays in a row right after
that that were like Jeff like tackles for losses or
sacks or whatever, like, oh yeah, he's just fine.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
And he ends the day being the leading tackler on
the football team. But he was a very quiet and
the National defensive Player of the week.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
So Roy, how I mean, how do you explain a
guy coming from where he was? He got some reps
last year, but not meaningful reps by any stretch. Yet
he never saw the field behind Sunny Styles and Simon,
and I'm afraid that if he'd have gotten out there,
Simon might have been in trouble.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
So funny as you watch Monday Night Football and there's
Cody Simon out there stripping the football and forcing a
fumble at the end of the game to help the
Cardinals win, Like, so, what did Was there a switch
that flipped somehow?

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Chocolate chip whoopee piees, I don't know the recipe got
out a little bit early.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Number one.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
I think there's a level of when you feel like
you should be playing and you don't get that opportunity,
and you take it personal in the offseason and you're like,
when I come back this year, we are We're gonna
wreck shop.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
And so I think he's motivated at a different level.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
I don't know if something happened in his family or something,
but he's he's playing like his livelihood is on the line.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
All right. Conversation on bus line will continue. You can
join us on Twitter or ex I'm at at Matt
McCoy Radio. We'll open up fulm lines after this break
at six FO six or one eight hundred and six
to ten WTVN Traffic and weather together and it is
a service of London Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Rams All New
Service Center. And here's Johnny Hill. Welcome back to box

(19:09):
Line again a reminder bucks Line Live it's coming again
the Monday of Michigan Week. That's November twenty fourth, Edison
Brewing Company in Gehanna. Forty nine dollars a ticket again
that gets you a house taco, a drink ticket. We've
got a lot of stuff that's going to be going on.
As we said, we may be changing some things up
because we need to win against Michigan and we'll figure
something out. But again, all the proceeds going to benefit

(19:32):
the Driven Foundation to help provide a family with a
food box of this holiday season. So bucks line live
dot com. The tickets are available right now and as
we said, it's sold out every year, so please be
part of it. We'd love to see you. A guy
that has been at everyone actually one year I should
I don't remember what year it was, but Jim has
called us up. He always does. He's online. He got

(19:55):
COVID and missed it. But he's been there. He's been
there every year and went back. Woman. We did the
show live each and every week. Jim was always there
and has been for years and years, and he's our
first caller on Bucks Line tonight. Jim, how you doing.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
Yeah, I'm doing great. I want you guys to know
how lucky you were last week by not having to
watch Gus Johnson on TV.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I did see. I did see the he.

Speaker 6 (20:20):
Shows up in the press box with a plaid sports coat,
a striped shirt and a polka dot tie. It's like,
did that I get dressed in a dark for this game?

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Or what I did see?

Speaker 6 (20:33):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
I did see.

Speaker 6 (20:35):
My wife I said, I'll tell you what, Jeff's not
missing a thing here.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Yeah, Jim, I did see the highlight of Jeremiah Smith's
one handed catch, and he sounded like he was going
through puberty.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Now.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
It wasn't great. It was a great catch, but he's
like god, I was like, that was a bizarre call. Uh,
And it was a great it was a great catch,
but what goodness, he's the work.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
We got to put up with him one more time
this year.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I guess that's that's right.

Speaker 6 (21:03):
But hey, I know the recruiting signing Day is coming
up here early December. Yes, and I see where High
State is listed at eighth in the nation right now
with twenty two recruits.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah, they just got a flip today. Kid was committed
to Florida State. Florida State defensive back, one of the
top DB's in the country.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Yeah, yeah, I saw that. I noticed there's a couple
of wide receivers as always, it seems like Brian Hartline
never misses out there. But I don't see any quarterbacks
in the in the twenty two recruits. I was wondering
if you guys had any thoughts on the class or
if you think there's a quarterback in the making, because

(21:45):
if we lose Keenholtz, you know, to the portal, then
all we'll have is our backup from Dulph Fountain.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, it is interesting, and I think I don't know
Bill how what is the philosophy on quarterbacks. He seems
to want to get one every year.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
Yeah, he needed quarterbacks because one guy goes down. I mean,
the drop off is usually huge now because of the
portal system, So you really need to have at least
one more coming in every year.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
That's really good and you know, but.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
The thing of the NL portal now, I mean, go guys,
I would I wouldn't take anything for grant until names
are on the dotted line anymore.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Yeah, I mean that is the kind of the thing
if you feel like you need somebody now at a
certain position. The portal has changed things. You know, everybody
knows Roy that Julian Saying is back next year, so
and I would think Tavin Saint Clair is safe for
next year and like developing him, and so I don't know,

(22:47):
it's it's tricky anymore recruiting high school kids because the
portal has changed things so much.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Yeah, it's well, like coach said that, you usually want
to get a quarterback every year. But to your point,
if say there's not a quarterback that you really love
or like, you can always look into the portal, specifically
when Julian leaves, because then all of a sudden, you know,
it's blood and the water.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Like these quarterbacks from other schools.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
A lot I can transfer to Ohio State and it's
not just the starter at say a smaller school or
like a Missouri or something like that. It's guys that
are five stars at Alabama, just like Julian saying that
are waiting like, man, I'm not getting my shot that
maybe we recruited and you can just poach him that way,
So I wouldn't really worry about it too much. Just
be happy with Julian right now. And you know, we're

(23:34):
probably gonna lose one of those guys we talked about
this last year. You probably lose because we lost with
Devin Brown. You know, you lose one of those guys
in the portal because they're not going to sit too
much longer and.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
You can't blame them.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
And you know, if Keenolts wants to make a move out,
knowing the Tavium Saint Clair's behind him, you certainly couldn't
blame him. But who is the fifth year senior that
they got out of the last host, who's just basically
there to run the scout team, correct there to run
the scout team and an emergency guy, and you got

(24:07):
to have one, Yeah, yeah, you really do. I mean
it becomes important for the depth. So Jim, if you're
still on the line, I want to know what you're
doing different at the beatn Michigan get together, because this
losing four in a row is getting awesome or awful?
So what are you going to do different?

Speaker 6 (24:25):
It's definitely something, isn't it. You look back at that
and you think, what the heck's going on?

Speaker 5 (24:32):
We need you to do something different this year. Come
in disguise?

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Where what Gus Johnson wore?

Speaker 6 (24:40):
Yes, I'll tell you.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
If I've got any down, go down to the Salvation Army.
You can find exactly what Johnson. I just dropped, Jim.
I didn't even mean to. I apologize for that, Jim,
because I was punching up. Our next caller, Andre is
on the line, Our man on raight for are you
in Indianapolis? Still?

Speaker 8 (25:03):
Yes, sir, I am all right.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
It's holding down the fort. How does Ohio State matchup
with IU? Since we may see that in a few.

Speaker 8 (25:10):
Weeks, but very well. Uh, stars matter, In the words
of Ari Wasserman, stars matter at the end of the day.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
That's right, yes, all right? What's on your mind?

Speaker 2 (25:21):
All right?

Speaker 8 (25:21):
First, first and foremost, my man Roy is on is
on tonight. I usually don't get a chance to talk
to him because I usually call him at six o'clock
hour of Roy, What up, boy?

Speaker 2 (25:30):
What's going on? How you doing? Brother?

Speaker 8 (25:32):
Oh, man, I can't complain. Hey, a couple of things here.
I want to tell you guys something. How Stay's head
coach is one victory away from from in my own
personal opinion, from being the best coach in the country.
And we already know what that one victory is. A
lot of times the people don't sti't realize that. You know,
Kurry Smart's got two national championships, but he's one and

(25:55):
seven against Alabama. So every coach in the country has
an albatross that they have to get rid of. It
they have to shake off. So it's not just Ryan Day.
I think sometimes that Ohio State fans get caught up
in that, but you know, other schools have their own,
you know, things to deal with as well. But the
reason I'm calling man, you know, we talk about the

(26:15):
players who are all familiar with the roster back and
forth to coaching staff. It's two guys to associate with
the program that don't get is enough enough credit that
they deserve. One is Mark Pantoni, the general manager. Basically,
in my opinion, he was probably the first general manager,
just wasn't called that when Urban Mayer brought a man
from Florida. Yeah, that's number one, and then number two

(26:38):
is and I know the athletic director that Ohio State
is going to catch flag because you can't please everybody.
But Russ New York is doing the hell.

Speaker 7 (26:45):
Of a job man.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
The way that he's got that crowd involved in the
game with the Buckeye leaves and stuff, and the way
he keeps them motivated to stay in the game for
all four quarters and help the team and reward themselves.
Both of those guys are doing fantastic. Yo. Oh and
before Luke Faye is committed to a House State of
twenty twenty six quarterback class. I don't know if you
guys Okay mentioned him or not. Yeah, but yeah, he's

(27:09):
in the class.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Thank you from California, yep, thank you.

Speaker 8 (27:12):
You know, it's just a situation where yeah, yeah, yeah,
you're welcome, no problem. But this is a situation where,
you know, Ryan Days, once he gets over that that hump,
we all know what that hump is. The sky's a
limit for that guy because his attention to detail is
Urban Meyer like. And of course that was his mentor,
so that shouldn't surprise me. But I've just liked the

(27:33):
way that he keeps the team focused. The comment that
he said earlier this year when he said, when you
come into the woody, nobody should feel comfortable. He said,
but you know what, everybody's fighting to get in there.
So that's a great sign for the program. I appreciate you,
guys man, Thanks very much.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Yeah, you know, it's very interesting. Thanks for the call.
Andre urban Meyer. Jeff his record at Ohio State was
eighty three and nine. He coached ninety two games. Ryan
Day right now is at eighty eight games, seventy eight
and ten. If he wins out this regular season, he'll
be at ninety two games, and so that means getting

(28:08):
over that albatross. But he would be eighty two and
ten and urban Meyer was eighty three and nine, so
he's doing Just think about that those two eras together,
like I get then I get the hand ringing. But
enjoy this more than you are many Ohio State fans,

(28:29):
because this doesn't happen every day. This is a pretty
special era right now.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
You know, when you when you see an Archie Griffin autograph,
it always says two time ht that's what you see
the urban Meyer autograph seven and zero. The first time
I saw it was it was engraved on the back

(28:55):
of his sandwich in his golf bag.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (28:59):
And I looked at at it and I was like,
you got to be kidding me, he says Jeff. If
I could brand myself, if I could put up with it,
I'd have it on my chest.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
And that's that is the difference, all right. And it
doesn't make it right.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
Because you can win a national championship obviously without beating
the team up north. But there's something about seven and
zero that goes a long way in this community.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
I mean in his restaurant. I think that's like on
the front.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Urban Meyer Pinehouse is fantastic, So yeah, it should be. Yeah,
I feel good about Ryan Day though. I do too.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
I think he's terrific.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
I think, uh, people need to understand that this you're
not You're never going to want to give up on
the game, on the tradition, on the rival, but the
game is changing a little bit in terms of how
you are judged at the end.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
I just you know, his comments about our athletic there
I think are good too, because let's face it, what
death leg directors have to do.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
The two main things.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Football and basketball need to win. Yep, and the other
thing is they got to bring in money, and that's it.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
I think that's why they That's why Ross New York
was the guy because he was at Texas A and
M and they have money.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
But let's not forget, though you have to be good
at both of those. Your football team doesn't win. Yep,
no matter how much money do you bring in, yep,
for sure.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
All right, one last break this hour, and then, of course,
don't forget. Bill's know Thine Enemy is coming up at
seven thirty five about the Preduy boiler Makers. Back after
this as we continue on box Line on six to
n wtv N and welcome back to box Line Matt
McCoy along with Bill Conley, Roy Hall, Jeff Logan, as
we talk Buckey's with you next hour. Bill's no Thine

(30:54):
Enemy coming out at the start of next hour. I
want to as a guy that has love football but
not played it at any level other than you know,
flag football at e Manuel Lutheran School and seventh and
eighth grade, what.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Are we doing right now?

Speaker 1 (31:10):
There's stuff that's the only that's the only like play
more than twenty years. But he didn't he didn't say
the year, how long he just seven today. I mentioned
I can give you the years if you want. Uh,
it would have been like nineteen seventy seven, and then.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Somewhere in there he didn't have the same thing.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
But stuff fascinates me about the game. And there was
a play last week that happened that I want to
address with you guys, just because I enjoy the I
would love to be able to sit in on a
film session with Pete. That's why I love Game Day
so much, sitting with you guys, because you know, I

(31:53):
know the game, feel like I know it, but I
didn't play it, and you guys see things that I don't.
And Uh, the play that started the second half with
Carnell Tate that Ryan Day said they had never practiced
and they drew up at halftime. That fascinates me. I
want to get into that a little bit coming up
after the top of the hour. Tweet from Larry though
here Julian sand has been fantastic. What do you think

(32:15):
as Heisman chances are and has there ever been a
quarterback complete more than eighty percent of his passes? Wow?
That's from Larry. The answer to that question is no.
Bo Nicks currently the quarterback of the Denver Nuggets when
he was at Broncos Denver Nuggets. I got my sports
next up Broncos.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Anyway, that's flag football hit.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, that's right, exactly ct. But he has the record
at he was at Auburn and then at Oregon seventy
seven point four percent. It is remarkable, Jeff. As we
pointed out on the postgame show, not only is he
completing those passes, it isn't dink and dunk. He is
throwing down field with incredible accurate See.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
It really is amazing. And you know, we've criticized a
lot of quarterbacks over time that yes, he has great
completion percentages, but they're just bubble screens and they really
don't test that. That's not this kid's story. I mean,
he is all over the field. Maybe the most impressive
throw that I saw in that game last week was
not any of the long ones, but the.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Throw one from the hash to the sideline.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
Yeah, the back shoulder throw to Jeremiah because everybody was
covered and they actually had Jeremiah covered on the play.
They had two guys, had a high safety, they had
a guy underneath, and the only place that ball could
go was a back shoulder throw and he not only
knew to put it there, and then Jeremiah recognized that

(33:45):
that's where the ball was going to have to be
as well, and he made the adjustments. So, you know this,
give give credit to the coaches for preparing these guys,
but be very grateful for the god given ability that
these guys have.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
They are very talented.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Well, it goes to prove how good the coaching staff
is an evaluating talent too, because there was no rush
to go out and try to find another quarterback. You know,
Julian's saying was not proven as a player yet right
as a star bud. They seem very confident on what
they had and they were exactly right.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Yeah, he went from fifth in the Heisman odds going
into last week. He's the favorite right now to answer
the question about the Heisman. So he is the betting
favorite right now to win the Heisman. The date of
the Big Ten Championship game is December the sixth. That
could be the Heisman race. Deadline for votes is December
the eighth.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
San and Mendoza are one to two right now.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
He has to win November my opinion, all Right, gotta
win November. Yep, and you got to win that big
ten championship game. You do that, Julian Satin will have
had to have played extraordinarily well to get both of
those wins in that circumstance. Then I think we've got
a Heisman Trophy winner.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
A one hour down, one to go on Bucks line,
where a service, a legacy retirement group. We're back after
the news break on six' TEN doubleutvn

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
