(00:21):
free money and it is not toogood to be true. And to tell
you that right from the nonprofits mouth. Please welcome from Malta House. We
have their president, Diane Auger.Thank you so much for being here.
Hi Renee, thanks for having meso Malta House Care, you guys do
so much great work in our Greaterher For community. If you could just

(00:43):
remind our audience who you are,how you help. You've been on the
show many times, but just aquick little reminder. Sure, Malta House's
Care is the only organization that providesfree primary care health services to people that
don't have insurance in the Greater hardFor Community. Probably there's an estimate nine
percent of adults in the city areuninsured and it goes as high as fifteen

(01:07):
percent in the surrounding communities, andwe've been we've been able to do that
because we are powered by volunteers, our physician volunteers, nurse volunteers that help
us provide those free primary care healthservices to adults. And how can we
follow you directly and get in touchwith you directly? Right on our website
Malta Houseofcare dot org will take youto the website of phone numbers and that's

(01:33):
a way for people to find usexcellent and now through Birdie's for Charity,
this isn't your first time doing it. Can you please express and impress upon
our listeners how important these extra fundsare thanks to Webster Bank and how much
this extra money from this program meansto Malta House of Care. Oh sure,
thanks. You know everything that wedo for the patients that we serve

(01:53):
as free and we are one hundredpercent funded by philanthropy. So this Birdie's
for Charity is so important to usevery year, and as you said,
we've been involved for many years andthe match from Webster is just you know,
the added bonus that we receive fromfrom the donation, So it's really

(02:13):
it's an amazing opportunity for all charities, you know, to also have the
ability to have a platform, youknow, in which to tell the organization's
story right and to ensure that peopleunderstand that, you know, we're all
out there trying to help our communitiesand we all have a significant role to
play, you know, serving peopleat their most vulnerable state. That is

(02:36):
truly what you will do. SoI don't want to go any further without
recognizing you, your staff, yourvolunteers, your teams, the medical professionals
that do what you do. Youguys don't have to do this, you
know what I mean, Like youdidn't You don't have to choose to help
the most underserved, right, butyou do this every day. I mean,
thank you so much. But arethere any words you'd like to say

(02:58):
about your team? Yeah? Iguess I would. I need to start
with the fact that Malta is onlytwenty years old, and it actually was
founded by a group of really committedpeople twenty years ago who said that,
you know, healthcare is a right, it's out of privilege, and shouldn't
we be helping people who can't helpthemselves or don't have the access that they

(03:19):
should have to healthcare services. Andit's through their vision that Malta is you
know, still providing care to people, and the volunteers who really make it
all happen, along with our smallprovider staff, you know, and and
on top of that donors who reachyou know, deep and help us to
provide labs and radiology and pharmacy servicesto patients who need it. You know.

(03:43):
Imagine that, you know, youyou've got bills to pay. You're
sitting at your kitchen table and you'vegot the rent, the gas, the
you know, your utilities. Youhave to pay for childcare, your kids
need clothes, you have to buyfood, you have other things to pay
for. And then on top ofit, you know, you need to
pay for ensureurance. Many people justput that at the bottom of the list.
They can't afford it, or wedo serve a lot of patients that

(04:05):
don't qualify for state insurance or othertypes of insurance. And our founders really
felt that it was important to besure that people received healthcare services, and
that's why I'm all at the Houseof Care exists well, Diane, I
would also like to say there isa very big misconception of what someone who
is in dire need looks like, and that has changed over the years.

(04:27):
I think one thing if we couldsay that it did come out of COVID
and the pandemic, is that peoplelooked at homelessness different They looked at people
whose lives were changed from one paycheckto the next differently. They looked at
what hunger looks like, looks different. So when you're talking about some of
the people you serve, these arepeople that have jobs, they have families,
but through just through the way theeconomy is now through their circumstance right

(04:49):
now, it's all they can doto have a roof and keep clothes on,
you know what I mean. It'sjust very mind's boggling. Some of
these people that you serve, ourwonderful human beings that deserve the same privileges
and rights as everyone else. Theyjust aren't making them maybe the same salary.
And it's just it's you are right, and your founders are right.

(05:12):
Everyone deserves healthcare. It should notbe a privilege, right, I mean,
it should be something that we allget. So I just can't impress
upon your right. It's all right, you guys are great. You can't
I know, you can say,I think you guys are amazing. I
can't say enough nice things about you. So Malta House of Care another one
of the incredible Birdies of her charitycharities. Go to Travelers Championship dot com.

(05:33):
You could scroll through, you canchoose a Malta house and you by
donating to them, they're going toearn another fifteen percent on every dollar earn.
So that is pretty exciting for peopleto find you directly. Once again,
Diane remind them Malta House Offcare dotorg, Malta Housefcare dot org.
