Jake, well, we're back atit. You're back at it. You've

(01:08):
been traveling a bit and what wehave Willie Anderson coming up so is as
much as it's exciting to have youback, I think he's kind of there's
a big seventy one shadow above youright now. Willie has great things to
say whenever he talks about football, and I'm excited for everyone to get to

(01:30):
hear what he has to say aboutJoe Burrow, what he has to say
about the Ring of Honor. He'sof course in the Ring of Honor.
And that's going to be where we'restarting today, right, And that's the
conversation. We didn't get to haveit last week because, like you said,
I'm traveling and unfortunately I've managed tocatch a travel bug. But here
I am anyway as I wrap upmy trip, and it's starting to get

(01:53):
a little more complicated, perhaps alittle bit less unanimous. Although we never
get the results of the voting, right, we never know exactly you know,
who's been voted for. But itseems to me that this is probably
Chad's year, I would think. And there are going to be a lot

(02:17):
of people though that I think, look at it and say, let's go
for the guys that have been retiredlongest first. So it's gonna be really
interesting this year because I think thatthere are a lot of ways that this
voting could go. Yeah, Iagree. In the thirteen nominees. The
voting last until June ninth for seasonticket holders. The thirteen nominees, I'll

(02:38):
just read him an alphabetic order,Jim Breach, James Brooks, Chris Collinsworth,
Corey Dillon, Boomerisie and David Fulchurch, Chad Johnson, Tim crom Rye,
Dave Lapom, Maxi Montoya, LamarParish, Bob Trumpy, Reggie Williams.
We get into this with Willie comingup and talking about it. I
don't see a guy on the listthat shouldn't be in the Ring of Honor.
The hard part is is what whatdo you want this to be?

(03:00):
Do you want this to be alet's play catch up and go in chronological
order, because then Bob Trumpy isa no brainer. Lamar Parish is obviously
a no brainer. You know, you could go and in order like that
of when they played, because alot of those guys should have went in
in the nineties, which would havebeen a really nice distraction. I think
from with the highis Worshild with angles. But they didn't go that route.

(03:23):
And so to me, everyone knowshow I feel about Chad. I thought
Chad should have win in last year. I just I think that that's the
tough part is Chad as influential asanyone not named Joe Burrow, I guess
now in this century, and byfar like it's not even closed Marvin.

(03:45):
I guess Marvin could be you know, the other one. But Chad is
right there, so I'm I'm abit biased there, I think because I
grew up with him. At thesame time, there has been a really
loud call for Lamar Parish and it'ssomeone that I didn't watch, and I

(04:06):
do get the wanting to go inchronological order too. He was a six
time pro bowler with the Bengals,so I get it, electric return man,
all of those things. People. If you talk to people that watch
both of them in real time,Lamar Parish and Ken Riley, there are
a lot of Bengals fans that thinkLamar Parish was the better player. And
I'm not disrespecting Ken right, theyjust think both should be in the Hall

(04:28):
of Fame. So that's the onethat that I think could potentially derail chat
is if Lamar Parish, if ifthese longer term season ticket holders vote for
Lamar Parish, which by the way, wouldn't be mad at. But that's
just one I would mention because Ithink he's he's got a real shot this
year. Well that's how That's howthe voting works, right, is the

(04:50):
longer you've been a season ticket holder, the more votes you got. Ye
Soot Curtis last year. That's that'sa big reason, I would imagine.
And how many players? Two players? Still? Is that right? Okay?
So what about Chad and Parish oris this like Boomer size and we
got to get Boomer in at thispoint kind of thing. There's only been

(05:14):
two guys that have won MVP inthe history of the franchise. How does
he how does he not in?Like I'm not saying that Boomer's numbers stack
up to you know, Joe Burrowstoday, but it's a different league.
Like I, I don't know howyou leave Boomer out another year. And
so that's why I come down toJoe. To Joe, well he will
be in, don't worry. Boomerand Chad that's who I come down to.

(05:36):
But Lamar's right there too, Sodo you go Boomer Lamar? And
is Chad on the outside looking inanother year? Which I'm not on board
with, But I understand if youwant to go that route. I can't
really debate Boomer he's got an MVP, yeah, and the Super Bowl appearance
and the tender he's had and theimpact that he had. I mean,

(05:56):
if you're going by impact quarterback, right, get your best quarterbacks in there,
get your most influential player Chad Johnsonin there. But then you can
go back, certainly to some ofthose really great defenders earlier chronologically. And
there's a great argument there too.So you know, the thing about the
Ring of Honor, I don't thinkyou can really go wrong, right,

(06:16):
but it's it's how long can youkeep some of these really influential recent guys
out to keep going with the historicalgrades versus well, they've waited long enough.
Let's let's pay our respects to theguys that did it first. And
that's a difficult thing to resolve.I think, yeah, it is.
It is. And just a fewother names like James Brooks, Corey Dillon.

(06:42):
That one's interesting because people with inour generation will obviously say Corey Dillon.
But you look at James Brooks andwhat he was able to do on
the ground, through the air, what he was able to do for Boomer
and in that offense in the latehities, and he was a game changer
at running back, and so there'sthe whole way that it ended, and
that might put some fans off, right, and that could impact how long

(07:06):
it takes for Cory. Again,it's cool the Coreys on the list though,
I mean, that's that's a nicething that the Bengals did. They're
not, you know, no sourGraves there right, Like they're giving the
fans the opportunity to say, sure, Dylan should be in. He carried
a lot of bad teams. Ithink that's the part. And Willie talks

(07:26):
about Corey coming up, and obviouslythey were teammates. He was also teammates
with Boomer, which I think isinteresting when Boomer came back in ninety and
Boomer leads them to four and onedown the stretch and that was his last
year. Then he pulls the TonyRomo and goes in and works in broadcasting,
but pulls the Tony Romo. It'sjust the more recent reference for people.

(07:49):
But yeah, I think it's afun debate, and ultimately you can
complain about the process a bit ormay that should put more in and Willie
and I do a little bit ofthat coming up, but ultimately I come
back to thank you for giving usthis to debate, because I remember a

(08:11):
few years ago for all Bengals,I put together a hypothetical ring of honor.
I'm glad I don't have to dothat anymore. I'm glad I don't
have to say, here's who wouldbe in that, this is this is
it, here are the nominees,Here's who I think should be in.
It's much much simpler, and wecan have these debates and discussions and it
kind of gives you like a SeniorDay or homecoming game vibe for that one
home game a year when they dothe induction, like it's a little something

(08:31):
extra for that game. And youknow, I got to see it the
first year they did it in thatJacksonville Thurston. I can that was really
cool and I think that's a coolthing to do. And so that would
be the argument. I'm not justputting all these guys in, because I
think the argument to just all right, let's just let's just catch up and
what we have to put guys inthe future, we'll do it. But

(08:52):
on the other hand, you know, they do get this really cool event
one time a year for the nextsix years or so, until all these
guys are and then like, what'sgonna happen when we get down to five
guys, They're gonna start adding somemore players to the list Geno aj Andy
Dalton, Like, then you justget into the next, the next Marvin

(09:13):
Lewis, Yeah, that would beinteresting. Those are gonna be some like
because of the recency of it andthe social media era aspect of it,
those will probably be like the morehotly contested maybe right, Oh, that's
a good one. Let's take Let'sgo. I'm James are up next?

(09:35):
Should we do? Willie? Youwill? Let's hear what Willie has to
say about Joe Burrow because one ofthe one of the greatest, if not
the greatest right tackle of all timeon the Cincinnati Bengals and potentially the greatest
quarterback of all time on the CincinnatiBengals. Let's be let's let's get into
that next. But first, today'sshow is brought to you by Fandel.

Anderson to listen to here some reallygreat thoughts coming up on the Ring of
Honor, and what better perspective toget them Willie on the Ring of Honor.
That'll be in our final segment ofthe show. But let's hear first,
what do you have to say aboutthe current quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals,

(11:28):
the guy who is a reason thisteam is where they are, if
we're totally honest right now, JoeBurrow, let's hear that conversation. It's
the Willie Anderson Lyneman Academy Summit comingto the Code East High School May thirtieth
and thirty. First, make sureyou sign up today. Let's you mentioned
Joe Burrow and in the great quarterbacksand the legacy that the Bengals have had,

(11:52):
and you were on the team whenBoomer came back for a year,
and I know it was brief, and I know that was kind of an
awkward situation and with Jeff Blakelntown aswell, because he had kind of emerged
just the guy. And then thereare questions they're bringing Boomer for a year,
but you've at least seen Boomer, even if it was his last season.
You were obviously blocking for Carson forquite some time. What stands out

(12:15):
about Joe Burrow to you from afar? Obviously you're not in the locker room
with him every day, but he'staken this organization to heights that I'm not
sure anyone expected this early in hiscareer. Well, I got a chance
to talk to Joe that The pictureI have on my Instagram was last year
training camp when we're riding the famousgolf cart round, you know, and

(12:37):
he stopped. He's stopped, andstart talking to him, and I said,
man, I want to thank youas a linement, the former alignment
as alignement, I say, howdo you handle yourself doing a game with
your alignment? Because as off asa lignement, we always look to see
which quarterback is really cool with hisguys, which officers a linement really ride

(12:58):
with that quarterback and times. SoI looked at from Boomer, you know,
and when Boom was a backup partof that um, he still he
still acted as a starter. Hewould he would ask questions, he would
support Jeff Blake, he would supportus UM. He would be having uh
freaking after the game part of hishouse over Kentucky, just just the lineman

(13:20):
got a fool and you know, got some beers over that. After the
game of the Lineman, he wasdoing all the things that made him a
guy that everyone laughed. And JeffBlake was the same way. But I
learned from Booming just even when you'reeven when you're down, you know,
you still want to be that guy, that leader. And once he took
over the spot the lineman, neverwanted to be the guy that that got

(13:41):
Booming hit because he was doing hewas doing so many good things. So
I remember after the Cowboys game hestarted to Dallas Cowboys game. We beat
Dallas that year. He came inthe game like every star, like fifteen
hundred dollars, and I remember walkingto spinning field and somebody said, man,
Booms trying to sign him, likehe got something for you. And
so I was, I was thefirst round picked you before I took my

(14:03):
money in and gives my backup.Watch I spill it my backup. But
I told Joe, I said, man, I saw things that you were
getting. You know, you wentthrough it beating that the previous year,
and I've never seen you get upone time, and shame your linement.
Never seen you up and throw theball down at him. Dog customer out
because we had a position where everyone'salways dog customers. I don't know,
you know what I mean. Itcould be your old line coach, It

(14:24):
could be your fans who don't understandthat that wasn't my it wasn't my sack.
That was a quarterback. The fansthink you get him killed. It
was It was a QB's fault.Everything is a lineman's fault already. So
you see the quarterbacks who's constantly yellingat his lineman, fussing at him.
You know, I could tell thelineman don't like those guys. But the
guys who get respect groups the guystands in the pocket, takes of beaten

(14:48):
and stands up for the lineman andsay, man, that sat was on
me. Because the whole the wholeworld want to say, it's the line
is fault. We love, welove the quarterback. But I've seen Joe
take the possibility the sacks. Iseen him get his head beat in.
Never gets up, Poum, nevergets up showing his line up because all
it takes one time. So letme give them throw the ball to the

(15:09):
ground and curse the linement up forthe entire stadium to hate every linement and
on the damn field. And Isaid, Joe, I appreciate you,
bro for not doing that and havingthe character to where these guys, these
guys are gonna step and fight foryou said, man, I don't know
what he's That's the reason I doit because I got my guys back,

(15:30):
and I want those guys to havemy back. So if to him to
acknowledge that and to know that andto be aware of that, to me
as a quarterback, biggest trait becausethose five guys have to bust their ass
to protect you, you know whatI mean. And I've seen guys not
like guys, and you know, you know, guys give sacks up.

(15:50):
You know, my shoulders hurting it. I've seen the guys tap out on
guys. But when the guys, when the guys loved by the guys,
you're gonna play hurt extra give youa body up for him, you know
what I mean. And I've seenthat what guys like us with Carson lest
with John Kidney. I see thatright now with these guys. Right now,
Joe's inspiring these guys. And becausewhen your line plays inspired and your

(16:15):
line knows that I got Joe Barrowback here. If I'm gonna give him
three seconds, we're gonna win hisdamn game because the plays is gonna make
him three and a half second isgoing to be tremendous. So he gives
guys confidence just by being there.Willie Anderson is our guest. Yeah.
I as you were describing that,a couple of things came to mind.

(16:36):
One Joe Burrow. Obviously, hisdad, Jimmy, was a college football
coach. His older brothers played onthe defensive side of the ball. I
think he may just understand the teamelement better than anybody, because I don't
think I think I would lose mycomposed. I think most guys would with
the twenty twenty one season and howmany hits he was taking in a past

(16:57):
first offense. I mean, yougot sack nine times against Tennessee in the
playoffs and just kept plugging, Andthat's kind of mentality. But I think
Joe tell you too what it's beensaid too. When I think it's been
said about Zach has been said aboutJoe. You know, sometimes the sacks
are on him, you know whatI mean, But then sometimes they're on
the line. So it's kind ofan even deal. But I think,

(17:18):
um, just as sometimes you know, when it does break down, he's
had the right to kind of gocrazy, and and I've never seen him
do. I've seen him be frustrated, but I've never seen him show his
guys up. And and i've seenhim in the quarterbacks. I think the
QB's in the league take a beatingand show that guys up, and they
continue taking the beating, you knowwhat I mean. But sometimes it's talent.

(17:44):
Sometimes just you know, guys arebetter. But I think when you're
when you're QB at that position, when he understands that team aspect and how
hard and how much trash Alignment alreadyget, if he can just mention our
names and and build it. Becausebecause Liman watched the Liman Beast believe they
watched those interviews, and they seethe guys who always said me, me,

(18:07):
me, me me, I Idid this, I did this,
I did this. They see that, but they also see the guys who
are constantly say, hey, man, just winning is brought to day to
buy The old line. Oline didtheir job with the Oline gave us a
running game. The O line gaveus some time at critical plumps, and
to me, that's one of Joe'sbiggest, biggest character traits to me that

(18:29):
he has he can aspire all thoseguys together and you can see it.
It turned up into wins. Goodstuff from Willie Anderson. Up next,
it's Ring of Honor time. I'llask Willie, who's one of six members
of the Bengals Ring of Honor,if he can narrow it down to just
two this year as the Bengals continueto add to their Ring of Honor,
Willie Anderson is said the Bengals Ringof Honor, and James said, can

(18:53):
you get it down to two guysout of the sex? I doubt it
because I have a hard time doingit my self. I think the most
Bengals fans have a hard time. But it's gonna be a great conversation and
it's always really interesting to hear reallytalking about some of the teams he was
on, some of his teammates, some of the history. So let's hear
that conversation to finish the show. Two could you an NFL? I could

(19:15):
not pick two. I've been,I've been, I've been one of the
one. Jake saying that it shouldbe eight a year to be catched up.
You know up, you know whatI mean, because let me say,
those guys should have been in thirtyyears ago, bro like I I
should have seen guys and I wasplaying for the Bagels looking up and saying,
oh, who is that guy?Or that who is that guy?

(19:37):
You know what I mean? Butwe never had that, And I'm so
happy they're doing it now. Itis leading a great charge. The whole
week is a great event they do. The best part of the event to
me is the Legends dinner the nightbefore, the night before the game,
all the players come back. Weneed more players from it. Batman,
Like when Ozi Curtis not winning lastyear, I think a lot more guys

(20:00):
at his on the stage with himat his story a ton of times than
I did. Um. A lotof guys my era haven't been back in
a long time, and they're stillkind of find guys numbers of email,
all of it and getting guys back. But I tell that at the time,
this is this is a new Beatles'It's a new way of doing things.
Its new people, new people leadinga charge, new fresh ideas with

(20:22):
Elizabeth and Kady of the things they'redoing so um um. But as far
as guys going in, so manyguys, man, you know, it's
hard man like, um, Ijust felt last year. I take the
story I felt last year. Itwas almost kind of I felt like a
survivor's remorse last year after gathering becauseit was so many guys I looked up

(20:45):
to as a young player. Youknow, I telled Riggie Williams all the
times that man. I thought innineteen eighty eight, I was in Mobile
all the dam man, and wegot we got a lot of bigger games
down there. For some reason,I was a big, bigger fan of
eighty eight Super Bowl year. Um, I thought Reggie Woolliams was the freaking
mayor Cincinnati because everything I was seeinghe was be in the soup outside of

(21:06):
downtown Cincinnati. But I found thatwas I was a kid. He was
protesting for the strike years eighty seven, eighty eighty seven, eighty eight.
So but I'll always see him insuits and tires, but he was he
wasn't a city councilman, right,So as a kid, I said,
that guy's a mayor Cincinnati and heain'ts playing football. So guys like that
with with with him. But Also, you know I played with guy a

(21:30):
Corey Dillon who did so much forhis organization. To me, it was
one of the all time great runningback to the NFL history. You asked
me, you got him, andyou got Ojo, you got, but
you got I got Tim crumright,Guys, I knew in eighty eight Super
Bowl years. So it's a hardthing to me. I was even one
of the guys last year on Twittersaying, don't vote for guys my era

(21:52):
so soon, because there was somany guys before us that paved the way
for us to be here that Ithought should be a long time ago.
And I really to vote would bemore than just two guys, because it's
a hard deal. Man, it'sa hard deal. Like I said,
I feel survivus guilt up there withIsaac Curtis last year, like I shouldn't
be with Isaac Curtis, Like IsaacCurtis should be with some guys with this

(22:14):
era, and they should have been, they should have been in years ago.
So it's a hard thing for me, but it also for the guys
that go in. It's a greatexperience. Man. Our fans are so
great. I think our fans arethe ones that kind of help push this
along, you know what I mean. And I'm pushing more my guys to
start coming back from my era becauseyou know, guys king, you know,
guys have a bad taste and theyleft. But I think the beings

(22:36):
have been doing a good job bekind of turn it around. I think
the more they can keep doing, the more than que reaching out. Bringing
guys back um for these kind ofceremonies would be a great thing for us
because we are behind. You know, It's it's tough, You're right,
because I look and I'm just lookingat the third team now, like Jim
Braids, James Brooks, Tim Crumb, right, like you mentioned Bob Trumpy,

(22:57):
Reggie Willaves, they should have alreadybeen in drop Trum Trumpy Trump ship.
He got He's allegend. Bro.It should be like right now,
you should be like those guys.Just you know, Lamar Parish. I
didn't mention him another one Parrish. And so is it should it be age
based or should it be accolades,Because I'll be honest, I don't want

(23:17):
to compare Corey Dylan and James Brooksnecessarily because Brooks should have gotten in when
Corey was still playing. You know, that's why I want to have a
conversation with the being. Was like, yo, man, like y'all can
stop this, Like let's just stopthis because it gets too personal, Like
it gets too personally. No onewants to compare James Brooks and Corey to
get it gets jealous, like youknow what I mean. Like and like

(23:40):
I said, the one wants tocompare those guys that you should be in
more because also too, you're runningthe risk of today's fans, like I
have no idea who who the umtake ticket based holders. I don't know
if it's an older crowd or newercrowd. But a lot of people didn't
see so many guys played, butsome of the guys saw him played.

(24:02):
And like I said, I wishthe BENGALSUS just stopped this and I hate
name on. Let's let's just becauseit gets too hard and too personal.
We're we're in a real fragile timeright now. As an organization, we're
trying to get guys into the Hallof Fame. So happened that Kenny role
is going in? You know,um, I think I think we should
we should honor as many of thatguys that we should, I mean,

(24:25):
and then because because you know, you know, Core Dealer should begin national
recognition for Hall of Fame goals, you know what I mean. But at
the same time, not even he'snot even mentioned, I ain't mentioned,
you know what I mean, Iain't mentioned. So but at the same
time, and in our war onthe Bengals world, we've had some great
running backs like Jane Brooks before himthat should get honored as well too,

(24:48):
So I think it should be.I wish you should just be just a
group of guys, eight guys manand to we kind of catch up and
um and but but the but thecinema, I will say this, right,
the cinema was they say, well, if it's eight, those eight
guys wouldn't feel as besiege as thetwo guys going in a year, And
I say they would, they would? I mean eight eight going in the

(25:11):
Ring of Arm is still a ringof arm, you know what I mean.
And it's a real big deal.I mean, you know, I
had tears in my eyes last yearwhen I went through it, as I
said, my name come down, and I wish all those guys before bet
She's been in health felt that feelinggood stuff from Willie Anderson. He is
