(00:03):
Kim Petris sits down to Yak withour own Bennett on Most Requested Live.
So exciting here, I'm Most RequestedLive, Grammy Award winning and this is
pretty exciting Sports Illustrated Hover Model.I mean, what where do we begin?
Kim Petris, good to see you, Good to see you. Yeah,
(00:24):
it's crazy, by yeah, I'mpinching myself at what's happening. But
it's it's so cool and just likeamazing that all the stuff is happening.
So yeah, yeah, when onewins a Grammy or and or becomes a
Sports Illustrated cover model, how doeslife change. I'm trying to live through
(00:44):
you, Kim. I've not doneeither one of those things. Okay,
well you sleep a lot less andyou and you do a lot more stuff
for sure. Definitely, like Ifeel like Instagrammy, it's just been kind
of NonStop because also, I mean, also I have an album that I've
been really proud of and finishing,so it's just been that and then just
like a million things and traveling andall of that stuff. So it's awesome.
(01:10):
Also, I have a Nicki Minajfeature which is probably equal to me
to the Grammy, which is themost incredible thing. But yeah, I
think I'm just more busy really andjust kind of yeah, I don't know,
maybe I maybe I have a littlebit more of a like confidence now,
(01:30):
like I want a Grammy like whatYeah, Like, what's like one
of the biggest songs in my personalfavorite song of this past year. I
mean, oh, my god, thank you. Oh absolutely, I will
say this on the air, andI mean this in the best way,
Like I feel like just I don'teven know what to say, Like when
when that song comes out, Ijust feel like the best version of myself.
(01:53):
Yay, that's incredible. I meanyeah, I mean Sam and I
had so much fun making this song. It was really just kind of felt
like friends making a song together thatjust kind of made us feel good,
and so that was the intention behindit. So I'm happy that it makes
it feel that way. Yeah, and let's talk about the new one with
Nikki, who you mentioned alone. We love playing the emotion requested live.
(02:16):
Some collaborations that you've been having,I mean, unreal, Sam Smith,
now, Nicki Minaj, tell mewhat's like working with Nikki? Oh,
working with Nikki has been the coolestthing ever. I mean, I was
crying like on the floor when whenher verse came in and we shot a
music video together and she was justthe coolest. I feel like I learned
(02:37):
so much just being around her forlike three hours or something like that.
And she's such a star as she'sstill lovely in Swede, and I feel
like I love her even more nowthan I dipped before. And Nikki's such
an important artist to me. Therewere definitely times like in the beginning of
me being a songwriter, when therewere years of like no one cutting my
songs and me not, you know, getting kind of the hype that that
(03:00):
I wanted, and whenever it wasrough, I would put on Nikki music,
you know, because it just likelifts me up and makes me feel
so confident, and that's just whatshe does for so many people. So
it's a huge honor. And alsowe kind of flipped a euro classic on
this one. We did a sampleof Alone, which is like one of
my favorite club songs ever. Soit's all around just so dreamy working with
(03:24):
people that I had just like admireso much. And the Sam song was
honestly just us four years saying wehave to collaborate and sending back and forth
songs, and then finally we metup and made Unholy. So it was
awesome, unreal how these collaborations andthese special projects come together. And I
totally agree with you on Nikki beinginspirational with her songs, her lyrics.
(03:47):
When I first came to Philly, because we're based in Philadelphia here most requested
love it was like ten years ago, and I would listen to Nikki did
it on them? Yeah, Icould get myself go and you know what
I mean, like she can dothat to people for sure, did it
on him as a classic in mybook. And let's let's talk about the
ups and downs with your career.I know you've been trying to release this
(04:10):
debut album for a minute now.Last year, obviously the album got scrapped,
you had some songs leak, andfans still got to enjoy that in
their way. But now, yeah, Beat the Beast, Beat the Beast.
Um, it's so exciting. Ifeel like this leaked album at the
end of the day kind of becamea reason for me to go push myself
(04:31):
and to go work with a bunchof people. So, first off,
I've really done an album kind ofthe way a major label does it.
Kind of. I did a bunchof Sweden, I did a bunch of
London, I traveled around, metnew producers. It was such a cool,
like I felt like Britney Spears inthe two thousands, honestly, making
it like it was so kind ofpop star machine vibes. And I feel
(04:53):
like I really pushed myself in myin my writing and just put everything in
there that a half and it's reallyit's really exciting because I feel like every
single song as its own story, but they all somehow tied together really really
well. So I'm just excited forpeople to hear it. Of course alone
is a good teaser for you tohear it. Because I'm from Germany.
(05:14):
I was born and raised there.I moved to la at nineteen, so
I always had a big influence oflike eurodance, and that's kind of what
I was raised on. So I'mexcited to kind of mix that in with
my with my sound that I usuallyhave or that I've kind of established over
the last few projects that I've done. And yeah, it's exciting. I
think my fans are definitely gonna freakout. So the goalieved so exciting years
(05:40):
in the making, and I lovewhat you said about the album being cohesive
and it kind of all comes togetherbecause we live like in a singles world
right now. So I always appreciatethe cohesive album where it's like just you
don't know, skips right start tofinish and it kindly skifts. Yeah for
sure, Um for sure. Imean albums are so important to me.
(06:02):
I there's some albums that I justlike, I have to listen, Like
I can't just listen to a songof them. I have to listen to
something for me, like i'd say, like probably Pink for all of Nikki's
album albums, honestly are that forme? Like whatever I listened to a
song from one of them, Iwant to listen to the whole thing.
All of Lana's albums are the sameway to me. I love Lana Lay.
(06:24):
Um. Yeah, I just careabout albums, and I'm excited that
I get to, um unleash somany songs on people now, because um,
it's definitely been three years in themaking and collecting these songs and finally
happening, finally happening, And doyou have all the emotions? Is it
like excited? Are you? Areyou nervous for these songs to finally be
(06:46):
out or like, um, I'mso excited to perform them. I mean,
I feel like that's what I've beenlooking forward to. I feel like
the second that I write a song, I see kind of what I want
to wear during the perform It's whatI want to performance to be, like
what I want the music video tobe like. So I feel like I'm
just more excited than nervous because ifeel like it took so many songs to
(07:11):
make this record that I feel like, really the best ones at the end
like put their little fingers up andwere like me, and I really kind
of just think that they're really goodand I'm really confident in them. So
I'm awesome. You already see likethe imagery when you create these songs,
like how it's gonna you know, feel like in a concert setting and the
music videos. And I find itso interesting the album making process because you
(07:35):
said there were so many songs thatwere written and produced. Who do you
go to? Do you have likesomeone in like your inner circle that you
go to to get like their opinion? Yeah, for sure. Well I
have my friends and my team.I always play my songs during GLAMs,
so I feel like my makeup andhair stylists always get to hear everything.
(07:56):
First. I have my best friendfrom Germany, US and everything to you.
We used to just like go togig clubs every single day and just
then I would try to make musiclike we were hearing in the gig gloves.
I'm like, we have like ahistory of just kind of we have
the same taste and all of that. There's also my friend Little Aaron,
who I checked usually like send songsto and I'm like, is this cool?
(08:18):
Do you like this? So there'sa lot of people. Honestly,
I'm very surprised that my music isn'tmore leaked because, like I said,
many people and have group chats onTwitter that I just like, I send
demos and stuff and I'm like, which one's your favorite? And so far
none, none of the leagues I'veever been from my fans. So yeah,
there's hundreds of people send songs to. So, yeah, you have
(08:41):
some trustworthy friends in your inner surcGod, thank god. Yeah, we
always like asking this question. I'mmost requested live. Obviously, You've been
writing songs pretty much your whole life. I'm always so curious from a songwriter's
perspective, the song you wish youwrote. Has there been a song or
songs recently You're like, man,I wish I thought of that first.
(09:03):
For me, that's kind of alwaysbeen. I always say this is one
of the most beautiful songs ever.Don't speak by no doubt. It's just
like I wish I would have writtenthat. I just think it's one of
the most beautiful songs I've ever written. Um, let me think like recently,
I mean, I love Red RubyDuslee. Is that song is so
(09:24):
good? Yes? From the Yeah, Um, there's also a lot of
like Britney songs. I feel likeWomanizer is sick and give me More.
I feel like, give me more. I would be one that I'm like,
why didn't I Okay, they stillsound good on the air too,
they still sound good, sound amazing, Like give me more a dozen age
(09:45):
It's like, oh yeah, soso yeah, that's that's my picks.
I would say. Timeless. Kim, so good to finally talk. I've
been wanting to sit down and chatmusic for the longest time. U just
so happy for everything has been happeningwith you. We even get to talk
too much about the swimsuit. Imean, the cover freaking ridiculous. You
(10:11):
and Martha Stewart, Me and Marthajust hanging out on the cover. So
crazy. Yeah, no, I'mso grateful to Sports Illustrated that they wanted
to do this. You know, like, I don't see myself as like
the most you know, confident personon the planet. I am when I
sing and when I'm on stage, but just like in general, it was
(10:31):
like a little hard for me,but they made me feel so comfortable and
like I like belonged there, andso that was kind of the nicest experience
with them, and it really gaveme like a boost in in my confidence,
like as a person, because it'salways a different thing if you're singing
songs and like you have a littlepersona with your different songs and stuff like
that. But but yeah, wasdefinitely kind of a bucket list moment.
(10:54):
So well, thanks Sports Illustrated,y'all all the best. It was fire
from that to Feed the Bees comingJune twenty three alone with Nikki winning a
Grammy. There was so much tocover and I'm just so happy to,
you know, spend some time withyou and hope to catch up soon maybe
on your next Grammy win or yeah, hell yeah time and he's hit me
(11:16):
up. Kim Patricks, thank youso much for joining motion used Bob.
We appreciate it. Thank you somuch.
