The Seattle Seahawks select Derek Hall linebackerAuburn. The Seattle Seahawks select Ze Charbonne

(00:45):
running back U C. L A. A voice of KJA right there is
awesome. I love a charminar. It's coming to Seattle area. Is one
final time to recap the NFL Draft. Would be with us on Wednesday,
but to get this out of theway early, and then it was tomorrow.
Then a schedule got busy, sonow here he is on a Monday
at six. Our pal at movedthe sticks on Twitter from the NFL Network

(01:08):
courtesy of our friends at thirty tenWeight Loss for Life. Daniel Jereliah DJ,
how are you pal? I'm doinggreat, multiple reasons. Number one
tattoos back in the lineup at SanDiego tonight for the for the first time
for a home game. That's that'snumber one. Number two. I don't
know if you guys knew this.I just found out about this, but

(01:29):
Klaius Campbell has signed with you bigbig yeah, wow, look at you
so a big talk from a guythat got peted on by a dog this
week. Yeah, what happened withthat? Come out of your shirt?
Tell that story? First of all. First of all, I want to
I just want to thank you guys, because without you, this moment wouldn't
happen. We'll get to the dogin a second, but you know,

(01:53):
one of the things you want todo when you're sitting on the desk or
in the draft is you want tosound like you are dialed in and you
know what's happening, and you are, you know, you're just an expert.
And so when the Seahawks come onthe clock, and courtesy of this
wonderful show that I'm on, Ican say, look, you know me
personally love Devin Witherspoon, but theyhaven't taken a corner since two thousand and

(02:15):
six when they took Kelly Jennings. You know, this is some information I
came across on a certain show thatI went on. So they're not taking
a corner, guys, Like, trust me, there's no chance they're taking
a corner. Who's that they? What was that again? Oh? That
was okay? Yeah? No,anyways, I gotta hear about the dog
peeing on you though. Screw thedraft? Yeah, who cares about the

(02:36):
draft? You got a dog peon you at the draft? Would happened?
Yeah, So we had all thesepuppies from a puppy rescue that they
had had brought on stage and itwas a way to try and get these
pets at home, which was agreat you know, day three, you
know, there's some lulls and sothat's a cool thing, right, So
I can bring these puppies out andthere's all these women. They're holding these
beautifully you know, cute little puppiesand they're gonna stand behind us. But

(03:00):
before we go on, like, hey, let's get some pictures of you
guys holding the puppies before the segment. No problem. So I get handed
this little puppy named Patrick, anduh, once he handed to me that
I'm holding him, and then likehis still a little he felt a little
wet, and you're going, youknow, maybe maybe the woman who was
holding him was nervous. She wasgonna be on TV and she was sweating,

(03:23):
right, And then I soon Isoon realized that this is a little
more than some some sweat, nervoussweat. So yeah, pat Patrick got
me, which I should have puttwo and two together, the fact that
I'm the color analyst for the Chargers, I'm in Kansas City holding a dog
named Patrick, Like, how didI think that was gonna go? There

(03:44):
you go, it was rigged toget you. Pete on right, angry
chief fans, I love it well. Daniel Jeremiah is with us from the
NFL Network, and let's just startat the top. Devin Witherspoon, all
kidding aside, becomes the third highestdrafted defensive back in Seahawk history. By
the way, DJ, joining SeanSprings and Kenny easily. A lot of

(04:04):
fans were kind of confused by thisselection. Tell him about Devin Witherspoon and
what this kid brings to the table. Yeah, he was my fifth overall
player, one of my favorites.I mean the guys that you know we
used to in scouting. We talkabout, Oh, this guy's a warrior,
you know, like in Hyperboy,Right, this guy played like that.
He showed up in one hundred andfifty pounds when he got to school.

(04:27):
He's had this huge, huge shipon his shoulder. He's tough as
nails. He got up to he'sone hundred and eighty one pounds now,
so he's still a little bit light, but he is. I always talk
about him and say his controller doesn'thave a pause button. I wasn't around
Ed Reid, and the way Edplayed was just with the utmost confidence and
trust and what he sees. Andthis kid's the same way. And then
you talk to the coaches at Illinoisand they're like the film study, the

(04:50):
preparation off the charts, leadership, character off the charts. The more he
talks, the better he plays. He's got you know, he's got a
swagger about him. And I knowhe's not as big as Sauce Gardner,
but Sauce Gardner showed up at Cincinnatia one hundred and forty five pounds,
same type of you know, alwaysgotta gotta show everybody how tough you are
and uh and loves football. Sothis guy is a stud. I mean

(05:14):
he was. He was the bestdefensive back in the draft. For my
money, Are the Seahawks gonna ruethe day? Are the Cardinals, Raiders
and Falcons gonna rue the day thatthey didn't pick Jalen Carter with their pick
and they could have had him?Well, you got it. You have
to. I mean, first ofall, you have to just be comfortable
with the guys you picked and becomfortable with whatever happens with the guys you

(05:35):
didn't pick. And if if JalenCarter, you know, could have hand
picked the situation and probably would havebeen Philadelphia because of the familiarity there.
You know, it's it's it's notreal. It's not real close to home
either. Seattle wouldn't have been either, but I think with all the infrastructure
they have in placed there. PlusI was talking to a coach at Georgia.
He brought up a great point andhe just said, look when he

(05:57):
walked on campus here, as greatas that team is, and they went
back to back national championships, thesecond of Jalen Carter step foot on campus.
He knew he was the best playeron the team, and everybody else
on the campus knew he was thebest player on the team. And so
it's a different deal. Now he'sgoing to a defensive line group that's loaded
with not just Pro bowlers, withlike some Hall of Fame type players,
with a guy like Fletcher cox Umand and he's gonna have to earn his

(06:20):
way in there. And I thinkthat's it's a good fit for him there.
I thought it could have worked inSeattle, But if you're gonna say
the best fit for him, itwould have been Philly. Uh Daniel Jeremiah
with us Uh. You mentioned CalaisCampbell. What do you make of Evan
Brown center for seas You know what, there's a reason DJ I bring that

(06:40):
up, by the way, becausethe Hawks drafted the center. They got
a center, and he's the OutlandTrophy Award winner. And I went back
and looked the last time an OutlandTrophy Award winner and went as late as
the fourth or fifth round was liketen years ago. How did this guy
fall to the fifth round? Yeah, because just he's not just from an

(07:02):
athletic standpoint, he was the mostathletic center. So that's that's why he
felt to where he did because nowI can look up the testing stuff,
but it wasn't it wasn't great. He is a gap scheme guy, like
he's going to be at his bestjust kind of uh going moving forward,
maulling guys. He can create somemovement there at the point of attack,
but on some of the you know, outside zone stuff and some of the

(07:25):
more athletic things, he's going tobe a little bit underwhelming in that area.
He's just more about leverage and powerand uh. And the nice thing
about him, as in past protection, he's got a really good anchor.
So to me, that's a that'sa great trait and center. I think
he can be a starter. Ijust think if you're asking him to get
out there and really you know, athletically reach block and uh, you know,

(07:46):
climb up to the second level, consistently do all those things, that's
not going to be the strength ofhis game. DJ. As confused as
we were about the Witherspoon pick,we were thrilled about the Jackson Smith and
jig the pick. So tell uswhat you think about that pick. And
where do you see him fitting in? Is he outside receiver, inside receiver?
Where's his best spot? Well,he's you know, he's been ultra

(08:11):
ultra productive in the slot. Ithink that's where he's most comfortable. I
think he was out to kind ofprove he could play outside to the spring,
but I would mess with a goodthing. I think he's really comfortable
in there. The best asset thathe has is kind of his quickness and
strength to the combination of those twothings which work really well on the inside.
And you know, it should bea smooth transition for him because he
goes from a place where he hadtwo studs on the outside to another place

(08:35):
where there's two studs on the outsideand let him just beat up on linebackers
and safeties in the middle of thefield. He's you know, that's kind
of like a spatial awareness spot too. When you're in the slot, it's
not just you know, how cleanof a route runner can you be.
You're gonna be navigating through some zonesand being able to find that void,
find that space as a skill inand of itself, and that's something he
has a lot of experience with.So that's why ide Park him. I

(08:58):
would park him right in the slotday one. But I do want you,
as a friend, uh, toget more excited about Witherspoon. I'm
telling you, guys are gonna lovethis dude. He's gonna be like a
fan favorite within the first month ofthe season. Hey, I'm I'm half
naked right now. That's how firedup I am for Witherspoon. So I
don't know how much more fired Don'ttell me. Just don't tell me which
half. Yeah, yeah, don'ttell me which. Daniel Jeremiah with us.

(09:18):
I'm looking at Derek Hall out ofAuburn. We had his position coach
rock Anton Ellie, who's now theDC at FAU, and he was gushing
about this guy on the show onFriday. But then I'm looking at Isaiah
Foski from Notre Dame, uh KeyonWhite from Georgia Tech. I think Bjojilari
went after Derek Hall. Did theyget the right edge rusher considering what was

(09:39):
on the board at that time,Well, I had Ojilari uh one spot
over him on my list in termsof edge rushers, but I had a
pretty good gap between the two ofthose guys. I think Oilari was like
in my mid thirties, and Ithink I had Hall and like my early
sixties, mid sixties somewhere onund there. But you know, he's he's a

(10:01):
good player. He's a good player. He's really really long. He's got
crazy long arms, like thirty fourand a half inch arms, and he's
got a ton of juice, likea ton of birst. He just when
they played against the better teams, the better tackles, he didn't. He
just didn't do much. So hekind of beat up on some of those
other guys. And then when yougot a chance to go up against the
better guys, I thought he kindof stalled out. So it just needs

(10:22):
just seemed to continue to develop asas an overall rusher, develop a better
plan. You know, you're justnot going to be able to win with
your you know, power and effortagainst the better guys. So he's got
the body four, he's got thelengths for it. He just has to,
you know, put it, puta little bit better plan together as
a rusher. Well, Softie's halfnaked about Witherspoon. I'm half naked about
the Ken Walkers, Zach Charbonnet,Kenny Macintosh running back, which half what

(10:46):
do you think, which I know, what do you think about that running
room? Does that that all fittogether in your mind? Yeah, that's
a great group, um, andI like it because it's kind of of
all of them, you know,by spreading it around a little bit,
keep everybody fresh. You know.I saw up close what Kenneth Walker looks
like when he's fresh and gets outin the open field. So m yeah,

(11:09):
I love his game. And thennow now you bring in Charbonne,
who I thought was the third runningback in the draft. So you know,
they got him in a good spot. He was my fiftieth player.
Wouldn't end up getting him? Thinkit was like fifty two something like that?
Correct? Right about, yeah, right about where I had him.
And this guy can catch the ball. You guys have seen a lot of
him. I mean, he's gonnahe could be your four minute back.

(11:30):
He could put a game away. And then you know also the ability in
pass pro and catching the ball. He's just a really good all round player
who stayed, shockingly stayed last year. I had already written him up and
was ready for him to come outlast year's draft. When he went back
to school, I was stunned.So again, you're getting somebody who's a
very very mature player. Uh.Daniel Jeremiah NFL Network. I moved the

(11:52):
sticks on Twitter courtesy a thirty tenweight loss for Life with Us. So
between, I'll just give you acouple of names. Anthony Bradford from LSU,
Cam Young from Mississippi State, andthen Mike Morris from Michigan the defensive
end, I guess throwing Big Oluas well from Michigan. Uh those four

(12:13):
players who were all line of scrimmageguys, which one of them would you
think has the best chance to kindof start, if not make an immediate
impact for the Seahawks. Well, you know start. I wouldn't say that
I feel great about any of thembeing a starter right away. Probably a
little Timmy would be my best shot. You know, he's considering all the
extensive homework I've done. Evan Brownabsolutely, so that would be that would

(12:37):
be into one I would probably pointto. But uh no, I mean
Cam Young is an interesting player. You know, it didn't have a ton
of you know, a ton ofproduction, but he's you know, he
can play on the other side ofthe line of scrimmage. He's really really
strong. Mike Morris is like abase end. I actually said when they
picked him, I was wondering.I know the defense in the scheme has
changed over the years, but Ijust think back to, uh, what

(13:01):
was my big man? I alwaysalways forget his name, My my,
the huge base end that the Hawkshad there in the Super Bowl year Bryant,
Yes, thank you very much, like kind of you know, they
have an affinity for guys that canreally set the edge out. There's bigger
edge players. Uh, that's kindof what you have there with Mike Morris.
Is there a star in the Seahawksgroup? I mean, obviously with

(13:22):
the number five pick, you're tryingto get a star, but doesn't necessarily
have to be your top pick thatturns out to be a star. Do
you see a guy that that youthink is, you know, potential All
Pro guy or certainly multiple Pro Bowlguy in this class? Well, I
think Smith and Jigba. It canbe a you know, catch a zillion
balls guy. Um, But Iyou know, this this draft as a

(13:43):
whole, I felt like this wasa starter not a star draft, you
know. So, yeah, theyjust weren't those types of guys in this
draft. And it'll be totally differentnext year. We all know who those
names are. But I mean, like we can go through the positions,
Like the tackle from Penn State thenext year's draft is better than any tackle
in this draft. Hours is betterthan any tight end of this draft.

(14:03):
Those two quarterbacks are better than anyquarterbacks in this draft. I mean you
can go kind of down the line. I mean next year is going to
be a just a better group ofthose players. So this is not a
draft you're sitting there going, hey, you know, Hall of Famer all
pros, like, hey, let'sjust try and get some guys are gonna
be really good, solid starters.I think that's what this draft was.
Well, that's interesting what you justsaid there, Daniel, Daniel Jeremiah with
us. So you think, andI assume the two guys you're talking about

(14:26):
are Caleb Williams and Drake May.You think those two are better than Bryce
Young and c J. Strout.I do. I do, And they're
you know, prototypical skill sets wherethey have everything. You know. I
love, Bryce is my top playerin the draft, but I mean he's
he's just not big and he doesn'tmove he can't move around like either one
of those guys. Move around. So those guys are bigger, they move

(14:48):
around better. Um, they're youknow, they're prototype type players. So
you know it'll be fun to watchthem. And I think this quarterback class
is gonna go. You know,we had like fourteen quarterbacks, um number
of quarterbacks got drafted. But Ithink next year, I mean, I'm
intrigued, like by by what I'veseen of those guys. You have one
up there at you dubbed. Iknow that. You know everybody makes fun

(15:09):
of, you know, bow picksand all that kind of stuff. He
played pretty good for Oregon last year. He's a good, intriguing, good
player. So I thought, youknow, everybody kind of wrote his book
after Auburn. Um, I thought, you know, he's he's not bad,
but there's a there's a there's anintriguing guy in the quarterback position behind
those two big dudes. God,you just gave me a great idea.

(15:31):
Let's start calling bow nick picks. That is awesome. Thank you for that.
By the way, As a bigHusky fan who hates Oregon, I
love that. Hey Daniel, whatdid you make up bijon going to Atlanta
at number eight? I know youloved him, but it was that a
little bit too high for you?No, I mean that's why I loved
him as a player in this draft. Again, he's got a chance to

(15:52):
actually be a star, you know, so he's he was my third player.
I put him in my mock goingeight to Atlanta. Usually like running
backs to go to teams that area little more established that you don't waste
any of their carries. But youknow, it's hard for me to look
at the options that are there, and he's just such a better football player,
um that it's hard for me tosay, oh, they should have

(16:14):
they should have taken this guy orthat guy. Like I didn't think any
of these tackles. You know, they're they're solid, but these tackles are
not Rashaunsel. There's no Pina soool. It's like, it's not that type
of group. What was your woemoment of this draft? Something that surprised
you? A team that went adifferent direction. He got paid on by
a dog. Well, yes, outside of Patrick Kean on you. What

(16:40):
was your woe moment of this draft? Yeah, it was a rough that
was a rough moment pun intended,Uh gosh, the the uh the moment
that maybe shot well I mean, shoot, I'll tell you what it was.
I really liked you, Mere Gibbs, but I did not know that
he was gonna go with Hi.I thought he would be in the mix

(17:00):
for some of these teams picking downthere towards the bottom in the first round.
He's my twenty ninth player and inLowell Behold. Detroit took him at
twelve, and then I found outafterwards calling around other teams, there were
two or three other teams that weregoing to take him before he got to
pick twenty. Like there was interestingpeople. They were all over him,
and I think it was a littlebit of a result of the lack of
big time wideouts. The teams werelooking at this dude who's really really versatile.

(17:23):
They were like, hey, he'sgonna like be our slot receiver who
will give some snaps to it runningback. But they thought he was the
best receiver in the draft, youknow, as a running back. Uh.
DJ, it's great to have youon. Great news for you.
We are out of time, man, all right, I appreciate this.
You're the best hope to talk againstsoon. I hope to maybe see you

(17:44):
this weekend, pal, So hangin there and watch out for dogs taking
a leak. You never know whenyou'll get hit. I'll tell you guys
what real quick. We have ourfun and we laugh, we have our
jokes. But I really do appreciateyou guys because these conversations you have,
you guys asking us, and youmake me think, and you actually gave
me some information. We actually usuallyhe's on the broadcast. So I'm thankful
for you guys. We'll do itagain next year. All right, you

(18:07):
got it, man. Any timewe can help you on TV, just
give us a buzz. All right, pal, we'll talk soon many.
Yeah, exactly. That's that's that'swhy I need thanks.
