(00:01):
All right, it's Wayne Dan.I gotta tell you right now. The
first time I met this girl, she's like, oh, nice to meet
you. Now she walks into aroom and everybody knows her name. She
can't go to an award show andnot bring extra space in her luggage because
you know, damn well, she'sgonna have to leave with something. Ladies
and gentlemen, the award winning, stunningly talented and gorgeous scale herself. Landy
Wilson, how are you? You'ma hype my end? You just feel

(00:24):
good? Some artists need like ahype video on a hype track. Just
let me get out there. Iknow you ought you ought to do that.
You start coming to the shows withus. How funny wouldn't be if
you started your show like a raplike a rap show. I'd be like,
y'all need to get up. WhenI say Landy, you say will
it's Laney, and then you're like, I gotta huya thank. I mean,

(00:46):
you know it's about trying something different, stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Let's do it. Speaking of that, how much of this is is
in your comfort zone? Because youknow it's what did you call it?
Like a ten year overnight success orwhatever, because you literally have gone from
zero to one hundred and it justkeeps going. Another award, show passes

(01:07):
and Leaney Wilson's got more hardware. Are you comfortable in this space yet?
It's a weird. It's a weirdfeeling because I say yes and no.
Yes. I feel like the twelveyears of being here in Nashville has like
prepared me for all these incredible moments. I don't know if i'd have been
even ready a year ago. Butalso no, because I don't know if

(01:27):
you can fully actually prepare for um, like what's really happening. I'm trying
to hold on for dear life.Boy, I'm like, we off to
the races? Is it is crazy? It's crazy. I mean last year
I played a show in tusca Loosaand sold eighty seven tickets. Shut your
mouth, I'm not playing. I'mnot playing now. I got eighty seven

(01:49):
family members saying hey, I'm comingto the show. I'm like, where
were you last year in Tuscaloosa?Right? Like I could have used y'all
just saying it When it comes tothat, what's been the toughest thing to
get acclimated to LifeWise, because yourlife isn't the same today as it was
a year for sure. I mean, even like last year, you know
you had. I had a millionthings I had to do, Like I

(02:10):
told y'all, I've slept in mybed fifteen nights last year. But it
seems like a quarter of those thingsI had to do were like really really
important, and like a lot ofpressure comes along with it. Now it
just seems like everything is huge, and so there's an extra I had a
layer of pressure, but I dobetter under pressure. So let's do it.
Yeah, you're doing pretty fine.I wouldn't worry about it. You

(02:35):
just wrapped up a massive number onesong with Hardy That Did that feel special?
Did it? I mean it feltspecial because obviously the topic is something
that is rarely addressed in music. But did it feel like it had the
potential to go above just connecting andactually be a massive song like that?
I knew it when he sent methat song last summer in the airport.

(02:57):
I mean, He's like, thisis the best song I've ever written,
which is hard for me to believebecause I think everything the boy writes is
just it's just great. He's astoryteller. Yeah, so, Um,
I knew that it was gonna growa set of wings. I didn't know.
I didn't know if radio would playit, but I knew that,
Um, with the kind of fanbase that he has, that it was
gonna spread like wildfire. And I'mso thankful to be a part of it.

(03:22):
Especially. I mean, he's justone of my He's one of my
boys. You know, he's likea brother to me. And to get
to do that, to get toshare such a special song with somebody who's
like blood to me, it's justspecial. When you are a part of
a tour, usually you will geta gift towards the end of it,
right, It'll be like, oh, you know, thanks for being part
of the tour. Here's Jordan Davistold us when he was with Kane Browne,

(03:45):
he gave him a Rolex at theend of the tour. Is that
the same with big songs like that, when when you do a song with
someone there like you know, congratsnumber one, here you go, thanks
part of it. He did textme the other day and he said,
I got you a gift and I'mlike, well, I don't have it
yet because he was out of town. And then I out of town.
We just haven't been here at thesame time, so Hardy. If you
listening, brother, you better giveme my gift. Listen, I didn't
get you one. Your gift wasn't. When it comes to your plans the

(04:14):
rest of the year, it's interestingbecause when you agree to be a part
of somebody else's tour, you're agreeingto be a part of it where you
are at that time, right right, well now, since you've agreed to
be a part of these tours,Landy Wilson Stock has done nothing but gone
up right, She's the Tesla countrymusic that gets edited out. I'll tell
you that, uh put the Teslapeople in country music. Gonna slap me

(04:36):
for talking about electric cars. Um, but do you look now like,
well, y'all better enjoy this becauseyou might be opening up for me next
time. Oh. I'm definitely like, I'm soaking it in. Um.
It is wild because it does feellike we've kind of been shot out of
a cannon. And a lot canhappen in a year, you know.

(04:59):
I mean like Luke asked me tobe a part of this tour probably a
year ago, and um, yeah, a lot can happen and change.
But you're right. I tell allthem boys, I'm like, y'all gonna
be hoping it up for me oneday. Y'all don't even know it,
but that is the plan. That'sthe goal. I hype and then I
intro Luke Combs and then Lady Wilsoncloses the show. That sounds like the

(05:20):
best tour you the hype Manum, have you had downtime? I mean,
because now we're going into a brandnew single. What's we're going to touch
on in a minute here? Butyou had mentioned, uh, last time
we caught up before the ACM Awardsthat like you miss writing, you miss
like sitting in like having your time. Have you gotten to do that?
I have, um a little bit. Like last week I got to go

(05:43):
out to Miranda's farm and we wrotesome songs, and so it's a it's
like, yes, I'm kind ofgetting to slow down and breathe, but
I'm also still working. You knowwhat I'm saying. The work. The
work ain't ain't stopping right now.And that's all right. I mean,
it's just you just like get ondown the road and it's not going to
always be this busy, Yeah, but it is right now, can I

(06:06):
tell you how cool your life is? You went from probably three years ago
to not really knowing Miranda Lambert atall, right, and you just first
named her and oh yeah, Idid. I did you know what I
told her the other day too?I said, it is so weird that
this is not weird that you weremy friend. And she was like,
oh, I was like, forreal, I said, I said,

(06:27):
I don't even know if I've gottena chance to tell you how big of
an influence you have been to everyfemale in this town I'm talking about.
She was like, don't lie,she said, you know, uh,
Leanne Walmac influenced me and you both. I said, of course she did.
She made me feel like I coulddo anything. I set my mind
too with I hope you dance, but Miranda made me feel like I could
burn it down at the same time. That's true. That's true. And
how do you keep how do youkeep cool in a situation like that?

(06:50):
Because as you do get closer withsomebody that you admire professionally and maybe maybe
motivated you are inspired you, butthey all of a sudden become a friend.
How do you how do you managethat? Right? Because it's tough
because you were a fan. Youjust said, right, you were a
fan of Miranda. You were beforeanybody knew your name or before you could
even sell eighty seven tickets to us, So like you loved her work,

(07:12):
Oh my god, and now she'ssomebody you went to Miranda's farm and hung
out as like her buddy. It'sum, just like I said, it's
it's weird that it's not weird.Um, I feel like me and her
really do have a whole lot incommon. Um, She's just she is
exactly who you think she is.It ain't no boot on. I mean,
like Miranda Lambert is is what youthink. And um, and I

(07:36):
love people like that. And soI think because it's her, because she
is so normal, probably just makesme feel more comfortable. Um. I
mean, I remember I was fourteenyears old, my very first CEMMA fest,
and they were selling these these littleframed pictures of of people playing shows.
And I found a picture of her. She was wearing like a turquoise

(08:00):
shirt, playing or guitar, andI had it framed literally, just a
picture of Miranda, like not signedor anything, just framed in my room.
And so I don't know if That'sthat's why I feel like I know
where because I'm like i've I've knownyou for a while. You're the first
thing I saw when I woke up. Side note, don't tell her this
story. Yeah, yeah, I'mBranda. How you didn't hear that?
You didn't hear it here? Sowe are diving into a brand new song,

(08:22):
which will be the next thing Iask, but I wanted to start
with Landy Wilson has phenomenal music outthere, and when you work with anybody,
no matter who it's been so far, the outcome is another fantastic song
that you're a part of. Butfor somebody who's just getting to know you
or comes to a show, what'sa song that people would be floored that

(08:43):
you know? Maybe it's a songyou get down to it and I'm not
talking like country, I'm talking like, yeah, okay, other end of
the spectrum. What's a weird songthat Laney knows the words too and loves.
I don't know if you'd say it'sa weird song, but we covered
the song a lot in some ofmy live shows. But rock and roll
hoochieko oh yeah, rock hero Hoochie. Everybody's like, what in the world.

(09:05):
I'm like, you, dang right, we're making a country. We're
making it country. It's so muchfun. I said today, I'm gonna
ask this question. If she bustsout like Tupac California Lover or something,
I'm gonna follow. Can you imagineme try? Like no, like,
I know what I can do,and I know what I can't do,
and yeah, I say, Iknow a little bit of Uh, you're

(09:26):
gonna be shocked. But back inhigh school, I learned every word to
Colt forty five. You know whatI'm talking about. Yeah, oh yeah.
My parents were like, you havegot to stop saying that you need
to go to church. You goto church. You're like, y'all back
off. Yeah, let me beand I would there's somebody listening somewhere that

(09:48):
is dying to know this next question. And I swear to God we're here
to talk music. We'll get tothe new single. Hey, all of
it? What is Laney Starbucks order? What is it today? This is
a Grande iced brown sugar oh somethingshaking express. So I got all that
backwards, but y'all know what I'mtalking about. It that's what this is.

(10:11):
But then I got the sweet creamon the top the home. See,
I'm like, it's basically deserted.I'm trying to fit into a smaller
T shirt, so I'm very far. It's like, yeah, take us
to the new single, and outof everything you've given us so far,
why does Watermelon Moonshine make sense forthe summer? Because the other thing is
when I heard the name, Iwas like, oh, this sounds like,
you know, summer, and thenI put it on and it's it

(10:35):
gives you a summer vibe, butnot like at the beach runner around.
It's like Ta goes, it's asun going down summer, you know,
chill vibe. It's a vibe andI googled vibe. So it doesn't make
sense to what she was saying. But why why for you? Were you
like this is this is where I'mat and this is what's coming next?
Well, um, I felt likeit was the first of all the song

(10:56):
that was raising its hand at likemy shows and stuff. It seemed like
everybody knows all the words to heartlike a truck, and it really seemed
like they were they were belting WatermelonMoonshine, And I really try to pay
attention to that I'm like, Okay, what songs are really carrying over in
my live shows? But also whereI'm at personally right now is I feel

(11:18):
like I'm I'm in a place whereI'm trying to do anything I possibly can
to stay grounded and remember where Icome from. And that song does it
for me. It takes me backto that young, naive, little Laney
who thought she knew it all.I mean, every time I get to
singing on stage, I feel likeI'm back in basking back on the back
roads, hiding the liquor in theback seat, hoping mom and Daddy don't

(11:41):
smell it on me when I walkedthrough the door, like those kind of
stories, and I want to singabout those kind of things that that I
still feel like me when it comesto picking like the radio single right It's
it's probably something that you never eventhought of as you were trying to walk
in the door. You're like,I just want to make music. How
much time do you put into somethinglike that? I mean, you've mentioned

(12:03):
that it's it had its hand raised? Was there anything else that You're like?
Yeah? But what about I feellike, I mean, I'm partial
because it's my record, but Ifeel I feel like there are a handful
of songs on there that that couldbe radio songs. I definitely have to
think about those things. I trynot to when I'm like choosing which songs

(12:24):
to record, but after the projectis done, I'm like, Okay,
if any of these were played onradio, what can I what can I
imagine driving down the road and listeningto And this was one of them.
I mean, it just felt likeit could It could be one of those
songs that you get out there andyou built. Or also it could just
be in the background and it feelsgood. Uh. I also have to
ask, as the album was comingout, there's statues down the street from

(12:46):
our studio here in Nashville that weredressed in bell bottoms. Where are those
bell bottoms now? Because I thinkI saw your instagram. Didn't somebody steal
didn't somebody? Somebody somebody ripped offa couple pairs of the bell bottoms and
took them with them. I'm like, my dear friend Shelley over at the
label, she um it was heridea. She was like, we need
to put some bridges on these billbottoms, and that's how we're gonna celebrate

(13:09):
this album release, and people lovedit, loved it so much they had
to go steal them. I wonderwho that was, Miranda, Miranda did
it? Miranda give us our BillBottoms back. I will tell you I
appreciated those statues wearing pants because whenI drive by him with my son he's
seven, he goes, I'm like, nah, yeah, some things I
needed some clothes. You mentioned hangingwith Miranda and writing. You have done

(13:35):
an amazing job with collaboration so farin your career, and so I'm going
to ask the question that isn't readyto be announced, even if it's coming
Laney and Miranda single, It's gotto happen at some point. It has
to. We wrote some great songstogether. Does any of it, because
I know you don't write a songas a collaboration. It just happens,
right. Did you guys work onanything that felt like we might have to

(13:58):
be on this one together? Therewere? There were pretty much all of
them. Especially when she was kindof doing her thing in behind me as
I was saying the demo down,I just felt like, hey, let's
just collaborate on all three of themthat we wrote. Let's just put out
a record together. Um, it'sgot to happen at some point. It
definitely needs to be the right thing, But I think that will kind of

(14:18):
organically happen. I want to writewith her some more and and see,
you know, do we go sassy, do we go more down home?
What is that? Because I thinkI think we could do either. And
the other thing I wanted to sayis everybody gives you credit for the bell
Bottoms, that that you're rocking right, You've you've definitely brought bell bottom back
into country. But nos, nodisrespect to that. Your hat game is

(14:43):
ridiculously fantastic. There's not a hatLandy camp rock. I feel well today
I'm wearing a paper boy head.I'm a going to go deliver your mail.
Yeah, that is funny. Iwas gone the headlines. Um,
I'll say it's so funny because I'lllook out at my shows and I mean,
everybody's were bill bottoms and everybody's wearinghats, and you can just see

(15:03):
people trying to peek around each otherbecause everybody's hat is so dang big.
They're like, coming to a LandyWilson show is like who you're there to
hear it you're not. Yeah, yeah, you can't see it, but
you can hear it. What madeyou decide and listen to hard hitting questions
always happening with us? What madeyou decide to not wear a hat during
the ACM performance? Because I've seenyou a hat so much. I was
like, I know, is thatlady, Yeah, there's some AI.

(15:26):
Yeah, yeah, like what Iwill say? I felt like UM.
For televised performances so far, Ihadn't been able to show that, like
that real sassy, um, kindof over the top thing. It's been
you know, things A man,I don't know, it's been hard,
like a truck. It's been waitingthe truck and um or never say never.
And I was ready to be like, you know what, I got

(15:48):
this other side to me too,I can I can shake a leg and
um. I felt like, wellthe performance that I did, I was
kind of like tossing my hair backand forth, and I knew the hat
was gonna come off either way.So it was like the best thing for
me to do is toss this thingand show people that kind of be a
little more vulnerable and be like thisis me too, with or without the
hat. There it is Landy Wilson, thanks for stopping bye. We appreciate

(16:11):
you. Love y'all,
