(00:03):
Phrase the Chevy to the Living Goodafternoon. You're listening to the car show
fifty five cares you talk station onDan Donovan taking your car questions. Love
to hear from you. Have phonelines wide open. The number to call
(00:24):
five one three seven five that numberagain five one three, seven four nine
fifty five hundred or one eight hundredand eight two three talk um. It
started out as a kind of ayou know, kind of a gorgeous Saturday
morning. But it has not turnedout that it looks like it's uh turning
against us. Here's getting a littlebit cloudy and whatnot. But uh,
(00:45):
I just got uh my son hasis involved in a weekend baseball tournament.
And uh, luckily with the withthe field kind of being a mess,
we're supposed to be at the ballfield by seven twenty. Luckily he pushed
it back to to to ten twenties. So eight a game at eleven,
So I rushed out to to ColeRaine got that uh washed him pitch and
(01:07):
and there they were losing four tothree, but uh, there's plenty of
game left and uh, and thenI got a head back out there because
he's got another game at two o'clockso, but he's doing well. So
again, UM car questions, whateverit may pertain to that vehicle. UM,
I love to hear from you.How a gentleman I missed his phone
call, but he had called.UM called yesterday from from Florida Sarasota area.
(01:34):
And itcause just because I you know, I googled it was a nine
four one area code and I'm like, nine four one, where's that at?
So UM I told him to,I said, give me a call
on give me a call today.I'd love to hear from you. But
anything again, that has to dowith the vehicle, that's what I'm here
for. Him here to answer yourquestions, whether it's maintenance, whether it's
(01:55):
um, you know, purchasing anew or new uh new or used vehicle.
We don't do any type of bodywork. Some of you may know
that m who listened regularly, butyou know I got a great guy that
does it. And you know,so whatever it may, whatever it may
(02:15):
be, on that vehicle, that'swhat I'm here for. And again they
number to call local number five onethree seven four nine fifty five hundred.
That number one more time, fiveone three seven four nine fifty five hundred.
Again phone lines wide up and loveto hear from you. But as
far as work goes, man,I don't know how everybody else's businesses are,
but I feel like things have definitelysoftened up a little bit. I
(02:38):
mean, we had one of mynew newer service advisors, so he's been
with us for two years, hegoes Dane because it's in the two years
I've been here, I haven't seenour lot this empty, and I'm like,
it's just and that's what we're gatheringfrom most people is you know,
there's not any type of you know, nobody's We're in that kind of a
(02:59):
pal moment, right, I mean, we're in that that time frame where
you know, we're not really it'snot really cold, um, nobody's spring
breaks over, and now we're allprepping forward the end of the end of
the school year and in Memorial Day, which is coming up you know,
Mondays May first, which I can'tbelieve it's already May first, but Memorial
(03:22):
Day is right around the corner.I mean just about three three and a
half weeks we'll be there. Soit's crazy how much how fast time flies.
But again, I think it's justthat one of those it's just that
time frame where nobody's going anybody orgoing anywhere. Nobody's traveling really, and
(03:42):
we're not dealing with extreme temperature. We're not dealing with you know, hot
or cold yet. Um. Youknow, I was talking to somebody earlier
this week and he's like, man, I just want it to be warm
again. I'm like, well, you know, here in Cincinnati, you
know how it goes. I mean, if you don't like the weather,
just wait ten minutes, it willchange, right. I mean, we
in Cincinnati, I feel like we'vealways we always seemed to skip spring and
(04:06):
fall. It always goes to extremelycold, right and then extremely hot.
I mean you know, probably inabout three weeks we'll be hitting the nineties
already. And which reminds me andyou start you should really start thinking about
it. Is your air conditioning.Okay, Now most of us aren't turning
it on. I did turn iton a couple of times this week,
(04:28):
and you really ought to try iton them, you know, decently,
what is it about sixty five degrees? Just turn it on, Turn it
on and just see if it's working. Make sure it's getting cold, Okay,
Because what we typically deal with andsee a lot of is that first,
really you know, really hot day, we get this massive influx of
people going, hey, my airconditioning is not working, and you know,
(04:51):
we're not able to get to youright away, and people can't wait,
you know, week, week anda half for us to look at
their AC. And it's something thatyou really should think about. So if
you're in the car and your listen, if you don't have a car question,
that's fine, but think about let'sjust turn my air condition on.
Let me let me make sure thatit is working. Okay. It's something
(05:13):
that you need to think about becauseair conditioning can be very expensive and very
complex. And I've talked about itseveral times on this show and we can
get more in depth in that, you know in the beginning, you know,
once it gets a little bit warmer, but just turn it on,
just make sure that it is working. And if it's not, schedule appointment
(05:35):
now with your mechanic or us orwhoever get it looked at. Please.
I would not advise you to goget a can of free on yourself and
try to do it yourself. It'snot a good idea. Okay, I'm
all for and this this show isall about you. Trying to take care
of and fix your car the rightway. And if you can do it
(05:57):
on a Saturday and put an alternatoror starter on on your car, you
know in the garage, great,I'm all four that we always are.
Um. Air conditioning is very complexand you got to make sure that you
do You've got the right tools todo it, because if you put too
much free on in your car,it's not gonna work. If you don't
put enough free on in the car, it's not gonna work, and you
can really potentially do more damage thangood. So and then I want to
(06:24):
get into is these newer cars aretaking a new free on that's extremely expensive,
and we're already getting phone calls.I mean, these cars are you
know, two years old and theyalready need a AC charge. I mean
I have a two thousand Honda Civictwo thousand, okay, it is twenty
three years old. I've charged theAC knock on wood. I've charged the
(06:46):
AC once in twenty three years. And I drove that car every single day
of my life. And I've gotcars that you know or you know even
even though you canons in the top, I mean, they're they're two years
old. And they're they seen sunworking. I just had one, UM
twenty. It was a little bitolder. It was a I think it
(07:09):
was a seventeen Cadillac Escalade. Airair condesting didn't work. UM, condenser's
leaking. So you know, it'ssomething that you really shouldn't have to be
dealing with that early on. Butunfortunately, the products that we're putting out
nowadays aren't really lasting as long asthey used to. So I felt like
(07:30):
there was a there were some goldenyears right where the Toyotas and the Hondas
and the Fords lasted forever. Theylasted you twenty years, and now at
least repairs are going, you know, two three years into it and you're
spending thousands of dollars to fix it. So again, the number to call
five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifty five hundred.
(07:51):
Let's go to the phones we've got, UM, it's it Sandra, Sandra.
Yeah, Hey, how can Ihelp you? Hi? I'm shopping
for a used car and i'd likeyour opinion. UM, I'm looking at
a Nissan Altima and I'm also thinkingabout a Toyota Avalon. I wonder if
(08:13):
you could compare the two as faras reliability, absolutely, so are we
are you looking to buy a brandnew or used uh no, used later
model used? Do you know aboutI'm not sure what year? Okay,
maybe maybe like a twenty eighteen okay, okay, um, so yeah,
(08:37):
great question. And again that's I'mglad you called so. Um As far
as those two lines, um,absolutely hands down the Toyota. Yeah.
Now you will see that the pricedifference is probably going to be pretty drastic
as far as if you buy ayou know, an eighteen Avalon to an
eighteen Maxima, They're going to bea pretty big price jump. Okay.
(08:58):
Um. Even even you know,an Avalon with one hundred thousand miles is
going to be more expensive than onewith you know, a maximum with twenty
thousand miles. But Toyota has timeand time again been one of the most
reliable vehicles out there and that weservice, and they're very inexpensive to repair.
(09:20):
And I'm not picking on Nissan, but Nissans just do not hold up
their reliability. And Nissan has what'scalled a CVT transmission, Okay, and
they've just not There's been all kindsof class action lawsuits and just been They're
very difficult to work on, andthey're just not as reliable. So hands
(09:43):
down, I would recommend the ToyotaAvalon. And again, even if you're
looking, I'd rather see you inan Avalon with one hundred thousand miles than
a maximum with twenty thousand miles, even if they're the same year. The
Toyota's gonna last you a lot longerand it's going to be less maintenance.
So that's how I was thinking asfar as reliability. But I also need
(10:07):
I'm older, and I also needa lot of comfort. A good Oh
it's gonna r I was very impressedwhen I sat in a Nissan Ultimate.
I was very impressed with that. The comfort of that seat. Um so,
But I guess reliability is more important. But yeah, I mean,
(10:28):
i'd much rather see you in theToyota and Toyota's it'll grow on you.
I mean, um, it's oneof them. And again I'm not picking
on them by any means. Ijust, man, they have just nothing
but problems. I just it's probablymy least favorite, one of my least
favorite cars to even service or workon, because they're just so complicated and
(10:52):
so difficult and just not the reliabilityis just not there. So, um,
I've been hearing very good things aboutthe Toyota Avalon. Yeah. Yeah,
it's a it's a great product,it really is. And you know,
I'm not endorsed by any of them, you know, they're just it's
just a I think it's gonna bea much better fit for you. And
(11:15):
like I said, even if ithas higher miles, pay the extra dollars
because you're gonna get more life outof it. You're gonna get you know,
the bigger bang for your buck byby buying the Toyota in my opinion.
Okay, okay, why do youappreciate your house? Thanks for the
call, Absolutely great question. Youhave a great weekend, all right,
all right, take care bye.All right, again, the number to
(11:35):
call five one three seven four ninefifty five hundred. That number again five
one three seven four nine fifty fivehundred again. Phone lines wide open,
um, but those for you, tune and any we're to talk about.
I want to get more a littlebit more in depth in the whole air
conditioning thing. And again we needto start thinking about that because like I
said, I'm sure we all probablyhad it on uh this week. So
(11:58):
we'll talk talk about that coming up. You're listening to the car show.
I'm fifty five krc D talk station. Welcome back, taking your car questions
again. Uh. Then I'm gonnacall five one three, seven four nine
fifty five hundred that number again fiveone three, seven four nine fifty five
hundred or one eight hundred and eighttwo three talk so again. Phone lines
(12:20):
wide up and if you've got acar question again. Um. Sandra called
and said, hey, look,I'm thinking about purchasing a vehicle. Um,
you know what's your preference again betweenthe Avalon and the uh, the
Nissan and hands down the Toyota.Just um, it is just um,
just a little bit more reliable.I for some reason, I just have
(12:41):
a love hate relates. I wouldn'teven say a love hate relationships, more
hate hate relationship for Nissan. Idon't know. They're just so um.
I mean some of you might haveone and go, man, I absolutely
love this vehicle. And again I'mnot saying that they're horrible. I we've
just they're just so complicated and coolto work on. I mean it's just
(13:01):
any simple thing. I it's justcomplicated something again. Phone lines wide open.
Love to hear from you again thenumber five on three seven four nine.
Let's go to the phones. We'vegot George, George, welcome to
the car. Shocking help. Thankyou very much. I've got a chronic
problem. Twenty three four fusion hybridwith a sun roof and one it's curcious
(13:31):
almost the ten year old automobile.Sure, after about a year or two
of hamming in the car, Iwould have a situation where it would run
outside fairly heavily, um but notall the time. And when I would
go to move to the car,I put it in very back, it
(13:54):
up out of the parking space andeverything. The water would come out of
the the headliner section that has allthe switches and the light interior lights,
eliminating lights and that sort of thing, and it would pull probably I would
say eight ounces of water or more. I got a town counsel just to
(14:20):
kind of and they wouldn't do itall the time, wouldn't do it every
time it rained or anything like that. Well, and you know, it's
probably the last car I'm ever gonnaown on eight years old, so I
just ready drave It would only happenmaybe once or twice a year. It
had been taken to the dealer. They had their their leak specialists. They
(14:43):
said, check it all out. They couldn't find the source of it.
I don't use the sun roof tospeak of it at all. I might
cycle it once a year to justkeep it working. And that the majority
of the water comes from all theswitches and everything are at the beginning of
the headlining where it joins the windshieldand the windshield seal. Looks like it's
(15:07):
starting to get battles in it andthat sort of thing. Yesterday, my
pass and I got into the carto go somewhere after it rained in the
morning, and the whole passenger sidefor was was pretty recked. That it
went through her purse and everything elsethat she could on the floor. It
(15:30):
comes in, it goes, andthat everything seems to continue to work as
far as the switchers and everything atare up in that panel. But I
just wondered if you had any suggestionor any idea since the dealer can't seem
to find it as to where thewater might come from. Okay, yeah,
absolutely, a great question. Soyou may have said this, I
(15:54):
may not have heard you. Doesthe vehicle have a sunroof? Yes,
it does. Okay, all right, So the sun All sunroofs have sunroofed
drains, okay, both on thepassenger and drivers side, and they're typically
located at the front of the sunroof, right closest you know, the and
(16:17):
um, what I would recommend youmost likely the sunroofed drains or clocks of
pine needles, dirt, leaves, debris whatever, we'll get in those drains
and clog it. Okay. Andthen so the water can because again they're
designed to have drains in them, and debris and whatnot we'll get in them.
So and again they're gonna be loadlocated at the front corners of the
(16:41):
sunroof themselves. What I would recommendyou do, if you want to take
a look at it yourself, openthe sunroof retracted all the way back and
right in the corners. I wouldyou know, run some water. Um,
you know, just get a littlebottle of water and you run those
in the corners and it should drainout about right behind both front tires.
(17:03):
Okay. Um. Now, um, if they're clogged, obviously it's it's
not gonna drain. Um. Youcould try to get some type of UM.
If you've got an air compressor whatnot. You can try to force air
through there, try to unclogged them. Okay. UM, now if you're
(17:25):
like I'm not going to try anddo it myself, I've got a great
guy. Um. In fact,he's almost at my shop on a weekly
basis, and he was there thisweek. Um it's called the water Doctor.
Okay, you want to write it, write it down. I don't.
His name's Jerry. I can't.I don't know the name the number
off the top of my head. But his name's Jerry. And just type
in you know, you go toyou know online, just type in Cincinnati
(17:48):
water doctor. Okay, Jerry Sparksis his name, and um, that's
what he does. And he isphenomenal at it, does a phenomenal whole
job. And um that's all hespecializes is fixing water leaks. And again
he was there this week. Umwe had you know, we had a
(18:08):
great conversation. And uh, he'llcome to you. You don't have to
take it to him. He willcome to you. He'll come to your
resident, your business or wherever. He'll come to you. And that's again,
he's really got a niche business andhe does Um, he does great
work. And that's what he's gonnaand and he's gonna be very reasonable.
He's not expensive. Um and uhhe's he'll shoot you straight and he's honest.
(18:33):
And like I said, he'll he'llcome to you and uh does a
great job. So again, ifyou want to check the drains, go
that route. If you're like, you know, I really don't want to
go out there and try to figurethis out, he'll come out. Because
sometimes the drains will run down thewhat's called the A pillar and they'll get
they'll sometimes they can get disconnected,so you might not have a clog per
(18:56):
se, but they the drains couldhave been disconnected, and then they can
leak in the car too, Andif that's the case, he'll be able
to identify that and he'll be ableto fix it. Okay, this may
not be relevant or not. I'mjust tickled the desk to hear about mister
Sparks, so I'll give them acall. But after we had the car,
anytime I opened the passenger side ofthe car after a rain, from
(19:22):
the bottom of the door, thereare drains about a cup about eight ounces
of water that it keeps water unlessbe the seals and the doors that are
keeping the thing from draining from thedoor. It doesn't come from the a
pillar as I see, it comesfrom a drain that's probably in the middle
of the door. Yeah, thebottom of the door, so it's collecting
(19:45):
water there too. This is reallygreat information about sparks. And I'll give
I'll look it up on the computer. So you say it would be Cincinnati
water doctor dot com. I don'tknow, I would just I don't think
it's since a walk. Don't knowexactly what his website is. But if
you just type in Cincinnati, ifyou go to Google, right, just
type in Cincinnati water doctor, it'llit'll pop up him. Because he's the
(20:10):
only guy in the Tri state areathat does this. I said, he'll
he'll shoot you straight and he'll takecare of you. And like I said,
he because you know, for us, I mean, we can do
it at my shop. But man, it's gonna I'm we don't specialize in
it, right, so we it'sgonna cost a lot of money if I'm
trying to find a water league opposedto you know, if you go to
(20:32):
your dentists and say, hey,I need I need my knee replaced I'm
sure he could probably do it.It's gonna be expensive because he doesn't know
what he's doing, right, Butthis is what he does, and he's
been doing it for a very longtime, and he does all the dealerships
around here, all the repair shopsand now again he's usually about a week
or two behind because it's he's gotit's just him and one other employee.
(20:55):
But I promise you he'll take careof you. Well, that's wonderful.
There's no emergency. This has beengoing on for almost ten years, and
I'll be glad to get it solved. So thanks, thank you very much.
It's always good, always good. You always learned something right. I
wis just think that would be yourgrandfather, Steve and when he was with
(21:18):
w g uc So I've been along time viewer. All right, thank
you and you put on a greatshow. Thank you very much. Yeah,
you take care by boy. Uhso. Uh see. So that's
the thing is like sometimes there arecertain parts of um, you know,
the automotive industry or the car industrythat you know, we don't specialize in.
(21:41):
UM you know, body paint, dance things, you know, we
don't we don't do that. Umdo we replace windshields? No, but
I got a guy. Um douh is it? Do you have a
water leak in your car? Canwe fix it? Sure? But I
got a guy right. And lastweek we're talking about gentleman that had a
spark plug that shaw out on aford and everybody was telling them, Hey,
(22:03):
you probably gonna need to replace thecylinder head and it's gonna cost some
thousands of dollars and he didn't reallywant to do that, and I said,
hey, I got a guy.I got a guy that can do
that. So it may I maynot always be able to fix it myself.
I mean we can, but ata price of that's gonna be a
lot more expensive, simply because wejust don't specialize in it. Right.
(22:25):
If you need breaks, we dothem all day long. But if it's
something like that windshield or a brokenwindow or dens or dings or broken bolts
or whatnot, you know, wecan guide you and help you out,
be able to get it done, and get it done at a reasonable price
and get you back out on theroad. So that's what it's all about.
So great question. So again, phone lines wide open. The number
(22:48):
to call five one three seven fournine fifty five hundred. That number one
more time five one three seven ninefifty five hundred or one eight hundred eight
two three talk coming up. I'mgonna delve in a little bit more into
the air conditioning unless you've got thatcar question. So I'd love to hear
from you. You're listening to carshow on fifty five KRC, the talk
station, Welcome back and taking yourcar questions a number to call five one
(23:14):
three seven four nine fifty five hundred. That number again five one three seven
four nine fifty five hundred, andagain whatever it may pertain to that vehicle.
Love to hear from you. Andearlier in the show, I was
talking about air conditioning. I knowthat it's not too hot yet, and
maybe some of us are or arenot turning on their air conditioning on our
(23:37):
vehicles, but you really ought tostart thinking about and if you're in your
car and you're listening, just turnit on. Make sure that it's working,
because again, I know all ofour shops we get kind of bombarded
right those first it's usually seventies, don't seventy degree days, don't do it.
Eighty degree days. You might geta little bit, but I'm telling
(23:59):
you what. The minute we hitninety degrees, we're getting phone calls left
and right, and because people justbreak down like I can't. I can't
deal with it anymore. It's justway too hot, especially when you get
into that car. It's been bakingin the sun all day long, right,
and then you know you need itdone. And we try to accommodate
as best that we can, butwe can't get to everyone at that influx.
(24:22):
So if on these little warmer days, just turn it on, make
sure that it is working. Thatway, you're not left on the sidelines
waiting week, week and a halfto get the car in so you can
get the air conditioning recharged or repaired. So again the number to call five
one, three, seven, fournine. So let's go to the phones.
(24:42):
We've got Tony. Hey, Tony, welcome to the car show.
How can I help? Hey,I appreciate you taking my car. Offer
not a problem, how can acar? But you just got done talking
about air condition and you know what'sso bad here around own Cincinnati is the
unidity. Oh, I know, refrigeration and things, okay, but that's
(25:07):
not the reason for my car.Well, by the way, during the
winter months, I will start myair conditions to keep everything oiled, you
know gas. Is that a goodidea? Yeah, I mean yeah,
but something that um yeah, absolutelynot a bad idea. I mean it's
(25:27):
not gonna necessarily um it may notkick on doue too. I mean,
you're looks like you've got an Ofive Safari. But um, even if
you don't even necessarily need to turnthe air conditioning on, if you just
turn on the defrost that kicks thecold, it'll draw that air out.
So you don't necessarily need to turnthe AC on while you're doing as long
(25:48):
as you got the defrost. Ifyou kick the defrost on in the in
the you know, when those windowsfall up in the winter months, you'll
be fine. You don't necessarily it'llit'll yeah, okay. And that's the
thing is like sometimes people go,man, my defosse is not working,
well, well does your is yourair conditioning working? Well? No,
it's not. Well that's why, because that's what drives out that air to
try to you know, you know, kick because taught me something else.
(26:14):
But I have the main question andthe reason for my car. Well you
already stated I have a two thousandand five gmc Safari and the ABS,
well, my brakes kept messing up. I mean it was terrible. But
(26:37):
so I ended up by passing theabs. Part of it just went direct,
you know, fluid to the brakes. Now the brake light will come
on along with the ABS, whichmakes my transmission shift right, So I
(27:00):
took it to my mechanic. Heput in a new speed sensor, wheel
speed sensor. I had a littlejunction wire or something. It seems to
be doing okay, but every nowand then the ABS and the break light,
you know, like my parking breaklight will come on and then the
(27:22):
transmission will start. I mean itjerks me sometimes because it can't see.
It doesn't know what they're it doesn'tknow why come across this because nobody can
answer me a good question talking aboutthe sensors on the tires. Should I
replaced those? Well, because it'sall ratio, that's what I've heard.
(27:47):
Well, yeah, I mean you'vegot wheel speed sensors. So most vehicles
now on the Safari probably has justum, I can't remember this so far
as there it's real world drive init, yes, sir, yeah,
so typically what they would do backin like Nowadays every single wheel has a
wheelspeed sensor, but typically on awheel rear wheel drive vehicle, the rear
(28:11):
differential would just have one sensor, and then the left front and right front
wheels would have a sensor. Okayum, and then you've got the ABS
pump, and then you've got theABS module, which you know runs the
whole runs the whole shelf. WhatI would recommend and I buy passed up,
(28:33):
so we don't know. Yeah,I'm just everybody. I'm taken it
to my motor mechanic because it's atransmission problem. I'd take it to them.
They read a code saying transmission slipping. He takes it apart, can't
find that day one thing, Well, puts it back together, wipes it
(28:56):
out, you know, the memory. Then he putting new heat are speech
sensor on it and all that. But now the lights are off. But
then all of a sudden the brakelight need ABS light will come on and
then the transmission will start passing up. Yeah, I mean, now do
(29:22):
you does do you? You don'tknow what like the you don't have any
Well, the problem is that Ineed to know. I need to know
the codes. Do you know whatthe codes are that. Yeah, well
I had them at one time, but they they had them and it did
have the code. Shoot, Idon't know, but you said there was
(29:45):
a maybe five eight seven or somethingweird but you said there I can't remember.
Yeah, I understand. So you'reBut what they're telling you, though,
is that you're getting you getting codesfor the transmission slipping. Yeah,
and that all has to do withthe ABS and the computer and all this
(30:10):
stuff. I heard. But yousaid you're you're a mechanic bypassed the ABS.
No I did, Okay, allright, I had it done by
my nephew, gotcha. All wedid was getting rid of that little box
the module the computer. Well,no, there's a little box on the
(30:33):
front of the computer which it hasleads to it and everything else, all
the weird scenario. Yeah, umman, Yeah, Unfortunately it's the computer
thing. I think. Yeah, unless where it is a censor somewhere that's
(30:55):
failing. Yeah, the check calledto talk to the professor. Well,
I mean, I'll be honest withyou, Tony, I really would I
really like to see it in orderto give you an honest opinion, because
it sounds like I mean, ifyou buy passing it and then we've got
that light kicking on every once ina while, and uh that that could
(31:18):
be a little a little, alittle complicated. But if you're in the
area, I mean, you cangive you world. I'd love to help
you. I mean, if youwant to give me a buzz um,
you know, I'm at the RidgeRoad location. I'd be more happy to

Yeah, I got it, Igot it, catch it right off
seventy one, yes, sir,Yeah, give me a buzz I'm there

Yeah. Well listen, I meanin my in my line of work,
you can't say you've seen it allright, because there's always something in
me like man, I know itnever never seen that before. I mean,
(32:23):
there's there's not a week goes byhand. My main man that I
used. He said that he hatesthis. Then I'm not a huge fan
of the Safari vans either, I'llbe honest with you. And again,
man, i've had it since. It has one hundred and fifty six thousand
(32:44):
on it, and I kept it. Okay, it was my I started
my own business and it was mywork van. Okay, it has the
transmission and it that's posibly very bigand powerful in which these other subs till
mean nine subs, well maybe, but like a jeep that needs a big
(33:07):
transplant, that's what this sucker hasin it. Gotcha, it's a commercial
van. Put it that way.Yeah, I got you. I've had
it forever, and good trying tofind some answers I understand. Well,
hey, listen, I appreciate thephone call. Like I said, you
(33:28):
give me a buzz um this weekand we'll try to get it in and
get looked at for you. Allright, all right, and your name
against sir, I'm so sorry.Okay, that's all right. Are you
as big? No? Nope, nope? Good all right, Well,
thank you for taking my call now, not a problem. Love to help
(33:49):

Ope, he's already got on somethingall right again, Taking your phone
calls, I'm gonna call five onethree seven four under that number game five
one, three seven four nine fiftyfive hundred coming up. We've got Eli.
You're listening to the car show onfifty five KRC, the talk station.
Welcome back, Taking your car questionsand number to call five on three
(34:13):
seven four nine hundred. I'm DaneDonovan and um um not calling but from
Donovan's Auto entire Center located here inthe heart of Cincinnati. We have multiple
locations. We have one in pleasantRidge, that's location. I'm app We
have one at Blue Ash on KenwoodRoad, and then our new specialty shop
(34:37):
on Montgomery Road in Montgomery, uh, specializing in Volvo in super vehicle.
So if you've got Evolvo Super, give them a call. But the Blue
Ash and pleasant Ridge location we canhandle all makes, all models. So
I love to hear. I loveall the questions so far, and we're
running out of time, so Iwant to get back to the phones.
We've got Eli, Eli, welcometo car So how can I help?
(35:01):
Dang? Good morning, How areyou a good afternoon? How are you
today? Sir, and I'm doinggreat. I woke up well, I
woke up earlier. My youngest sondecided he wanted to sleep in our bed,
and I didn't get I didn't geta great sleep, but I woke
up energized and ready to go today. So what can I help you with?
(35:22):
Yeah, but you know, fifteenfifteen, excuse me, fifteen twenty
years goes by in a blink ofa nice so you'll look back and you'll
wish you wish when he's twenty,he called back in bed, if you
one more time? Yeah, that'sthe good stuff. So, yeah,
that's all the good stuff. Hey, Dave, my question is if my
wife is kicking around an idea.I'm purchasing a new car. All of
(35:44):
our cars are two thousand, twothousand and one, two thousand and two,
so we've got all old vehicles andwe're kicking around the idea on what
would your opinion be. She hastwo in mind, two vehicles in mine,
the Chevy Verse versus the gmc acadia. I haven't looked. They may
(36:05):
be apples and oranges, or maybethey're apples and apples, you know,
in comparison. But do you havean opinion or what what? What might
your opinion be on? And I'msure there's a ton of factors to take
into consideration. I guess comfort reliability. Are all new cars reliable nowadays?
(36:27):
No? You know, I don't. You know I don't. Great question
and a great question. So,um, what I would tell you as
far as the Acadie or Traverse?Goo? Um, we're comparing apples to
apples, I mean really, they'remade by GMC, and um, you
know my wife drives a GMC.She drives a Yukon, but hers is
(36:49):
an eleven. But what I wouldtell you, Um, it wouldn't be
my first choice. Okay. Isshe looking for a small suv? Well
no, not not necessarily small,So we're thinking mid size. But then
we saw the Traverse the other day, just sitting in the parking lot,
(37:10):
and that looked larger than she shouldactually be talking. She's afraid to talk.
Yeah, the Traverse is larger thanthe Acadia. Yeah yeah, then
the Acadia okay, Yo, she'slooking for a mid size yeah, okay.
Point so here here's my biggest complaintabout Chevy. Okay, And if
(37:34):
you're aware of it, and youhave you have knowledge of it, and
you stay on top of it.You can buy either one. I don't
have a preference either way. Butwhat the biggest problem is is the traverses
and all gms, all of themburn oil. They burn oil, yes,
oh later on in its life orno, very early on. Forty
(38:00):
thousand miles they start burning oil.And Um, the newer, the newer
you go, the more susceptible ofit burning oil. That it's just the
way they're designed. Uh. Andagain I'm not picking on GMC because um,
unfortunately I like Hondas, but Honda'sa burning oil. Toyota's burnt oil.
(38:22):
Um So, but I mean asfar as a mid size in my
opinion, Uh, Honda Honda ortoy Honda or Toyota given my first pick,
okay, hands down. Um,you're gonna pay more, they're gonna
probably have higher miles, but they'regonna be their most reliable. Um.
(38:45):
Something that no people a lot ofpeople don't think about is hounday Um.
Now rightday, Hounday's are are reallyinexpensive and really reliable. Um. And
like I said, um, Hondasand Toyotas and the Houndai's they because of
(39:07):
the way they're the higher tolerance ofthese engines and the way they're you know,
because of government regulations, they tendto all do it. But I
just see a lot more of theGMC's doing it than the Hondas and the
Toyotas and the Houndays. Now youknow, a option would be Mazda.
Have you looked into Mazda? Havenot? Have not? Um? Yeah,
(39:31):
Honda, you know, the Hondac RV or the Toyota raft for
or the Hyundai Santa Fe or theMasda c X five. Um, those
are going to be my three,I'm sorry, my four choices that i'd
recommend starting with again, I mean, if you're gonna buy the UM.
(39:52):
In my opinion, GMC kind oftends to spend a little bit more research
and development on their bigger Veha cools, like they're big Yukons and whatnot.
They don't tend to burn oil asbad, but the traverses and the acadias,
I would that would I like theSon of hit at all the burden
the oil was. Obviously we're notaware of those things, because that's true,
(40:16):
not something that somebody's gonna tell youabout a new vehicle, especially with
forty thousand miles. So very niceto know, thank you for that thing.
Yeah, and again even if youeven if you go with the Honda
or the Toyota or the Hyundai orwhatever, my advice to you, whether
it's new or used. Um becauseum, you know, our office manager
(40:38):
of secretary, she bought a Kiaand her son has Akia, and her
son's Kia burns oil. So hercar has four thousand miles. She goes,
can you just check my oil?Make sure it's not burning it yet?
Now four thousand miles. We checkedit. It's not. But typically
as the old, the older thatthing gets, typically the more oil it
will burn and consume. So youjust need to be aware of it,
(41:00):
and you just need to be ableto Again, if your wife wants to
act the Katie the Traverse and shegoes, I don't care. I just
want to just be aware that it'sgonna do. It's not. It's not
a matter of if, it's justa matter of when. And if you're
diligent about checking it and topping itoff, then that's fine. But what
happens is we become complacent and wego, oh, I need an oil
(41:22):
change in five thousand miles. Well, what do we typically do? Well,
we usually go about seven or eightthousand miles. Right by the time
you get there, it's almost outof oil, and it creates timing chain
issues and just it's a mess.I mean, there's not a day goes
by, not one single day atmy shop that I don't have a car
that comes in there that is low, that's not low on oil every single
(41:43):
day. So well, and mywife I love her to death, and
I do the same thing. ButI'm and I'm being and I'm kind of
it isn't really true, but Ijust still say, what's that light for?
I said, I don't know,let's what's check your OI. Let's
go see what all these neat lightson the past border for? Right,
(42:05):
what do you think that happening for? You know? So, yeah,
you're right. So as long asyou're aware of that. And again I'm
not picking on Chevy because my wifedrives one might you know, but just
be aware that it is something becauseof these new engines in the regulations and
how they're designed, they tend toburn oil. So just as long as
you're on top of it and checkingit, you'll be fine. No,
(42:29):
No, I love I love theadvice. With that being said, I'm
probably gonna scratch those. Scratch thosetwo right off the bath and start looking
at the Honda Toyota and the Hondaand the Masda. I look at both
of those, I mean all fourof those. Yeah, and again the
Hondas and the Toyotos. Yes,you're gonna sit there and go, we'll
shoot. I gotta this, youknow, twenty twenty raft four with one
(42:51):
hundred thousand miles on. They want, you know, thirty thousand dollars and
I've got this, you know,a Kadiakadia with twenty thousand, and they
want they want less. They wantless for a reason because they know it's
it's just not going to be asreliable. So you're gonna pay a little
bit more. But I promise you, in the in the grand scheme of
things, in the long run,it's gonna last you a lot longer.
(43:15):
Yeah, that's what I say.In a year from now, we're talking
about talking about stuff, and I'llsay, you know, my wife name
Shelley, I've been in. Ayear from now, we're not going to
know what we've spent, but ayear from now, we're gonna know this
is what we wanted or not?So sure. Yeah, it's nice to
get off on the right foot. And uh, I'm glad we called.
I'm glad. That's awesome, awesomenew. Thank you so much, and
(43:37):
listen to you. I appreciate listenreal quick because I'm gonna get too.
Is what I would recommend. Areyou gonna and I may have asked you
this, are we Are you buyingnew or used? New? Thinking new?
Okay? All right? Great? If you buy new, great if
you're buying used, whether you bringit to me or anybody else, you
(43:57):
make sure that when you buy somethingused, you get it inspected by a
mechanic, because you know a lotof people thinking, oh, you know,
the car's only two years old,it's got twenty thousand miles. It'll
be Listen. I don't want youto buy somebody else's problems, so just
make sure if you do decide togo use, just get it inspected before
you sign any paperwork. All right, we all do a right, Thank
(44:22):
you so much. All right, take care of have a great question,
have a great weekend, great questions. Thank you so much everybody for calling.
That's what I'm here for. Loveto help you out, love to
guide you, and anything that pertainsto that vehicle and man. Everybody enjoyed
