(00:21):
down. Good afternoon, and welcometo the car show. I'm thinty five
KRC. I'm Dane Don I've beenthen taking your car questions. Love to
hear from you. What a gorgeousum saturday so far? U doesn't look
like it's going to be great tomorrowfor those of you participating in the uh
(00:41):
Fly Flying Pig Marathon, which isa pretty big event around here. UM.
I had talked to myself, I'mkind of a runner myself, and
I had talked myself and to maybeparticipating in it right before COVID hit.
And then uh, you know howthat all you know how that all went
down, so um and the andm maybe uh maybe next year. But
(01:03):
h but I do enjoy running.Uh you have to if if you're running
that that type of distance. Sobut again, I'm taking your phone calls.
The number to call five one three, seven four nine fifty five hundred
That number again five one three, seven four nine fifty five hundred or one
eight hundred eight two three talk. That's one eight hundred eight two three eight
(01:25):
two five five. So again thatthat is why I'm here. I'm from
Donovan's Auto entire Center and again takingyour car questions anything that may pertain to
the vehicle, and that's what I'mhere for it. And recently the past
couple of weeks. Um, youknow, the beginning of the show,
I'm you know, asking everybody,Hey, call me up, call me
(01:46):
up. And then it always seemslike towards the end of the show,
I get all the callers and thenI'm having to not get to all the
calls. Okay, so I wouldreally like to do that. Um,
so call all in now that wayI can answer your question and that unfortunately
not get to you. So it'sa busy weekend. We got, uh,
(02:07):
like I said, we got theFlying Pig Marathon. We've got the
Kentucky Derby, which is something thatI've always kind of been um, I've
always liked. Um. You know, I had an uncle that had horses
that raced down at River Downs yearsago. My grandmother loved it, and
I just remember and then my motherin law we used to go there every
(02:28):
Mother's Day. That was just kindof a routine. So kind of grew
up watching the watching the horses andenjoy it. So I actually had again,
I had the opportunity about three weekstwo weeks ago to go down to
Keeneland, which is just beautiful downthere, so it was really fun.
So but that's not what I'm herefor again taking your phone calls, and
I'm gonna call five one, three, seven, four nine fifty five hundred
(02:50):
real quick. And I talked aboutthis last week, and I'm sure you've
got the air condition on. Ihad my air conditioning on in my vehicle
all my way here because it's alittle steamy. Seventy seventies not steamy,
but you know when you're dealing withthirties, right when you wake up in
the morning and it's thirty two degreesand then you know by the end of
the day that our bodies are justnot adjusted to it. And now,
(03:12):
if we went through a you know, two three weeks of the nineties,
seventies would be a be a coldchill, right, We'll be wearing sweaters.
So it's just hard to adjust. The Cincinnati weather is just always you
know, again, wait ten minutesand it'll change. So but if you're
in the car. And maybe youdon't have a question, but if you
do, if you do, havethe air condition on. And I tried
(03:35):
to touch on this last week andthen again, like I said, we
got a little busy with the callsand that's what I'm here for. But
air conditioning can be very complex andit's something that I believe we need to
discuss and talk about in the sensethat some of the common myths. Right,
So coolant, right, a lotof people think that coolant is what
(03:57):
keeps the car cool the air canthat is. But what cool it does
is keeps the car from overheating.Right. But the air, the cold
air that you get inside your vehicleis free on it's a gas okay now
for years and years and years freeon R one thirty four. It's called
has been used years. But Imean prior to that was R twelve something
(04:19):
you may remember the R twelve, but now it's our one thirty four,
okay, And there's several components tothe air conditioning and this and we try
to harp on this all the timeat Donavance. Right, if your air
conditioning is not working, there's there'squite the process to figure out exactly why
it's not, and nine out often times it's usually because the free on
(04:42):
has leaked out. The freons leakedout and again freons and gas, so
we don't know where it leaked outat. Okay. So the very first
step, So if you've turned thatair condition on and it feels warm,
and I've already got several calls alreadythis year already if the air conditioning is
not working right, the first step, the first thing that you have to
do is you need to find outif the vehicle has free on in it
(05:03):
and it's not. You can't lookthrough an hourglass. You can't walk,
not an hourglass, but you can'twork look through a glass. You can't
look through a jug. It's gas. There's no way that you can physically,
you know, you at home canfind out if you have free on
in your system. It needs tobe hooked up to a machine and the
machine will suck it down, findout exactly how much free on they pulled
(05:24):
out of the system, and thenhow much free on needs to go needs
to go back in. Okay.So that's the very first process. And
when we do that there is acharge of course, because you know we're
putting the free On in. We'rehooking up to a machine. And what
we do is in all shops they'llput a dye in there, Okay,
a fluorescent green dye that will showup under a black light. The reason
(05:46):
we do that is if I feelyour air conditioning up today, and two
weeks later it's leaked out again,I don't know where it leaked out at,
right, So you put the dyein there to try to find out
where it leaked out at. Sothat's step one, and then go from
there, you know, and again, the air condition has several components.
You have an AC compressor, youhave an AC condensed here, an evaporator,
(06:09):
you have lines. There's a lotof components. And you know,
a lot of people are misguided asto when you bring your card to me
and say, hey, my aircondition Dane, my air conditioning is not
working. I feel it. Icharge it back up with freon. Right.
I didn't fix anything, I justfilled it back up. And the
easiest analogy that I can use isit like, look, if you have
(06:30):
a whole in an inner tube, how are you going to find that hole?
The only way that you can findthat hole in that inner tube is
if you air it up. That'show you're going to find the whole.
And again, if you're the freonhas leaked out, there's no way for
me to determine where it leaked outat unless I charge it up and put
a die in there. And again, it could last for two days,
it could last for two years, okay, because it could be It depends
(06:54):
on the size of the league. If it's a very large leak, we're
usually easily term and that you won'tleave the shop. We'll be able to
figure out because the machine will willvacuum down the system and will it'll you
know, fail a test, avacuum test. Um. So, and
then let's just say bring it tome and say, hey, your compressor's
leak in. Okay, um,well we put a compressor in it.
(07:15):
We'd remember we didn't need You've gota condenser as well. You've got an
evaporator, you've got lines, umthose all of those components are very expensive.
So typically you will only replace thepart that's failed. It's way too
expensive to replace all of them.Okay. So it's something that you know,
you just need to have knowledge ofthat. If your air conditioning isn't
(07:39):
working, these these this is theprocess. These are the steps, okay.
But lately all of these newer carsUM have a new free on in
them, which is of course veryexpensive. Um it's one two three four
YF. Okay, very expect Soa typical AC recharge, right if you
(08:01):
bring me to your you bring yourcard to me or any other shop.
Of course, prices are going tovary, but typically it's about one hundred
and fifty bucks maybe to recharge it. Okay. However, the one two
three four YF starts at three hundreddollars and can go up from there dependent
(08:22):
upon how much free once in thesystem. Now. I talked about it
last week as well. I havea two thousand Honda Civic and it's twenty
three years old. One time haveI had to recharge the AC one time
in twenty three years? Okay.I am seeing cars that are one two
three years old needing a recharge andit's the one two three four YF and
(08:48):
it can get very expensive very quickly. Um. I just had a car
that was it was a twenty twentytwo. It's one year old and us
I think it was a hund day. I think it's a hunday. It
was a hunday and already had anac problem. Film was gone. So
you gotta have the knowledge as tohow this whole process works, right because
(09:11):
the one, two, three, four YF is expensive. And again that's
that's what's going on all these newercars. And you know, again,
even if you pay the three hundreddollars, you need to have the mindset
that nothing is being fixed. Allwe're doing is filling the system back up.
Now hopefully if wherever they put thatdie in there, hopefully wherever it
(09:35):
leaked out at, they're gonna beable to determine where it came from.
And that's not always the case.Um. Sometimes of ana evaporators leak and
sometimes you have to charge with twoor three times to try to figure out
where the diye's going, because itwill eventually the evaporator will eventually the drain
will eventually pop up with some die. So it's it's something that you think
about. And again I talked aboutthis last week. The air conditioning.
(10:00):
If you're air conditioning, turn iton right now, make sure it's working.
If it's not, schedule an appointmentbecause what's going to happen is usually
we get that you know, weget that hot streak right where we've got
like the first ninety degrade ninety degreeday, and all of a sudden,
everybody's trying to get in there, and we can't get to everybody right away,
(10:20):
right and then you're driving around miserablefor two or three days trying to
get in just to get the airconditioning fix. So if you think it's
not as cold as it should be, or maybe it wasn't working last year,
now's the time to get in,okay, because there's not this massive
influx of everybody wanting to get inhere. So just something to think about
it. And again, whatever itmay whatever it may be, we don't
(10:43):
even have to talk about air conditionif you've got any type of I mean,
you know, maybe you're in themarket to buy a new or used
vehicle. Maybe you know you havea maintenance question. That's what I'm here
for. It love to hear fromyou. Phone lines are wide open.
The number to call again five onthree seven four nine fifty five hundred number
one more time five one three sevenfour nine fifty five or one hundred eight
two three talk at number again oneeight hundred eight two three eight two five
(11:07):
five. So all right, loveto hear from you. Give me a
call. Um. Yeah, there'severybody's got car problems. I told you
last week I had one myself. So I love to hear from you.
You're listening to the car show onfifty five KRC, the talk station.
(11:28):
Welcome back, taking your card questionsagain number to call five one three seven
four nine U. So I wasreading this came out earlier this week,
um, and I'd love to hearyour thoughts on this. And I'm not
trying to be controversial by any means, but um, California will not allow
heavy duty diesel truck sales after twentythirty six, um, you know.
(11:54):
And again to go to the wholeev market right, trying to go to
to to to all electric. Um, and there's so many I just don't
think we can all want to fordor our can our grid even be able
to charge all those vehicles? Youknow what I mean? UM, So
(12:16):
I thought that was interesting. Butif you've got to if you've got a
thought on that, I just youknow, it doesn't say though, it
doesn't say whether or not they're goingto ban the sale. I don't I'm
sure they're not going to ban themdriving around California, because I don't know
how they're going to get there.Uh, you know, they're free.
But all right, let's go tothe phones. We've got Uh let's see
(12:37):
here, we've got aiden aid andwelcome to car. So how canna help?
Well, you can help him catcha ball a little bit matter,
this is your dad. Figure itout. I'm sure you figured it out.
But you're a little controversial thing aboutthe truck. So I just think
(13:00):
that a lot of things that theysay aren't going to come to fruition,
right, you know, I meanthe weight of all the batteries, and
we just can't possibly create all thosebatteries. I'm telling you. I mean,
I agree with you one hundred percent. I just say, you know,
Declin just made a great little catch. So obviously at Dane's Suns baseball
(13:22):
games, so yeah, three wethree games before one o'clock today, So
three games so we're at the lastone. So but as far as the
organiztion, the YF you know, one, two, three, you know
four? Y you know, isn'tthat a hard one to find too,
Dane? Isn't that leak a hardone to find? Yeah? Usually?
(13:43):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean it'sthe most expensive, right, and you
know that's why you know, I'mlike, hey, you know, just
because there needs to be and wewe do. We do a great job
explaining that. Hey, look bye, we you know, we have to
start somewhere, and this is howthe process is, right, And if
(14:05):
you don't properly educate the customer asto how the process works, it leaves
leaves them frustrated because if two weekslater the air conditioning is not working again,
right, they just paid one hundredand fifty, or they just paid
three hundred, right with the onetwo three four yf um, it leaves
that. It leaves that feeling asif you know, we're yeah, you're
(14:28):
absolutely right. It comes. Itstarts up at the front, right Hold
on, someone's bugging me. Theywant to talk to you. Hold on,
mister, heyst be a little biteasier on the kill. All right,
(14:50):
Hey, I gotta get going.I got some I got some callers,
all right, all right, takecare, all right? By bye.
Oh there's uh, there's the familyall together watching baseball. So all
right again the number to call fiveon three seven, four nine fifty five
hundred. Let's go back to thephones. We've got Marcus. I'm sorry,
(15:15):
is it? Is it? Howdo you say it? Is it?
Okay? All right, I'm justjust missing an R. So Marcus,
welcome to the show. How canI help? Yeah? You got
it? How's it going? I'mgood. He got a double header,
We've got a double header to tryto get intomorrow. Well yeah, well
yeah with that rain, Um,I don't know. Well, I actually
I have tickets to the Reds gametwo tomorrow, and I'm like, h
(15:37):
not looking good for us tomorrow, but we'll see. Yeah, keep our
fingers crossed, yes, sir,Well, how can I help you?
So? Working on a twenty tenf one fifty one hundred thousand miles five
point four Leader engine, and I'vebeen having for a while now at ticking
sound, ticking or tappy sound onthe right passenger side of the engine,
(16:03):
and I was wondering if you hadany tips or trick These trucks are known
to have some valve train issues thatcan come up and manifest that way.
But I'm also wondering could it bethe exhaust manifold? It sounds, you
know, like it could be,But I'm wondering if you had any tips
or tricks to figure out one orthe other. Absolutely great question. So
(16:26):
real quick, the ticking or tappingsound. Is it more noticeable when you
start the vehicle up after it's beencold, like it's satur night, and
then maybe as as it gets warmedup, it deep the sound deep the
tapping decreases and it's not as loudor is it always consistent? Yeah,
so good question. It It startedout that it would be tappy and making
(16:51):
that sound immediately upon startup, andif I would give it a little gas,
it seemed like it would quiet Itquieted down a little bit. But
now it's, um, it's prettymuch all the time, Um, all
driving speeds, you know, itfollows the RPM of the engine. And
yeah, it's just constant from startupall the way through the full operating temperature.
Okay, so obviously, I I'mgonna tell you most likely it's the
(17:21):
manifold bolts that are rust and brokeoff and they're they've just gotten worse,
not not. I'm like ninety ninepercent sure that it's a manifold bolt that's
cracked. And what happens is thatmanifold warps, right, and even if
it's you know, because of theheat, and because that bolt's not no
longer, they're keeping it, youknow, flushed with the with the cylinder
head. It gets hot and it'sit's it's starting to walk away essentially and
(17:45):
warp more and more and more andto the to the point where and again
you could have had you could haveseveral manifold bolts broken. Um. And
the fact that it's only on oneside is again usually an indication that it's
a manifold. Now, um,I honestly, I really have to hear
the noise um to know for sure, because if it's a manifold, I
(18:10):
can tell you right immediately. Um. Yeah. The other the other it
sounds like it could be. Imean from what I've heard before. Um
yeah, when you hear it,it's seems like it could be. I
just was a little bit thrown offbecause I know they have a valve train
issue that it's kind of the sametapping thing. But yeah, and and
they're not. It's not a hugeproblem. I mean I talked last week,
(18:34):
you know, because I've got afive point four leader, um,
you know, three valve forward enginethat you know, you know, the
spark plugs break off inside the cylinderheads or whatnot. But um, I
had a weird ticking noise and I'mlike, what is that noise? And
I knew it wasn't a manifold bolt, but I thought it was internal my
tech my my top technician. Iwas like, man, I think the
(18:56):
spark plug is loose and you're hearingthe and I'm like, no way that,
there's no way. I was like, it's it's too deep. Um,
sure enough, he tightened it down. He was right on the money.
Noise one way immediately. So that'sthe other thing. So manifold bolts
one number two spark plug maybe walkingout right because you got the cool the
(19:19):
coils bolted on right, so it'snot it's not gonna go anywhere a lot.
Sometimes they can blow out. Um, but I'm willing to bet.
I would make sure that the allthe spark plugs are tight. If it
is a manifold bolt, it can. It can get expensive because you need
to take them all out, andthen I would recommend that you replace the
(19:41):
manifold because again it's warped. Um. I got a guy that would that
can remove those those bolts when theybreak off inside the cylinder head. Uh,
they break off flush and you gotto drill them out. Um,
I've got a great guy herbs machineshop. Does that mean the cylinder,
(20:03):
yeah, nor, Nope, youdo it in the car. You gotta
to tire off. You got totake the thunder liner out and then he
can access it from there. Andhe's mobile so he can come to you.
If that's the case, Um said, I don't know if he says
here you're from Mount Or, Idon't know if he would drive that far.
I mean, you might need tobring it a little bit closer to
the city. But I'm I'm ninetynine percent sure it's a manifold bolt,
(20:26):
and you just what happens is thefact that it's just louder and it's more
consistent is probably more likely just oneor more bolts have broke off. I'll
be honest with you. Yeah,Because I'll be honest with you, I'm
not saying that just because I haven'tseen it doesn't mean it's not possible.
But I have not seen that enginecome into my shop with a vow with
(20:51):
a with a you know, alifter or you know, with engine major
internal engine issues. It's always aspark plug or a manifold bolt. Yeah,
Okay, well, I'm gonna checkthose spark plugs first. That'll be
easy. Then funny if that's it, yeah, hopefully it is. Otherwise
I'll go after that manifold. Andlike I said, Herb's Machine Shop.
If the manifold, you know,it's really you can. You can do
(21:12):
it yourself on those manifold bolts.Just get in that. You're not gonna
be able to see it from thetop. You do need to, you
know, you probably need to pullthe wheel off on that side, you
know, jack it up, pullthe wheel off. You'll be able to
see those manifold bolts. They're inall the corners. I mean if you
just you know, google them. You know, you know, a manifold
(21:33):
itself and you can see where theholes are. Right If you look at
a picture of a new manifold andlook at the holes and then compare it
to to your truck, and you'regonna see one's missing, it's it's so
I mean, you're you you cango in there and yourself. Yeah,
it'll be obvious. And a lotof times too, a lot of times
too, you'll see like black carbon. Sometimes you can see black carbon from
(21:56):
you know, from the you know, combustion and you'll see it kind of.
Yeah. So yeah, that's whatI did look for. At first,
I was looking for black carbon hopehopefully hoping I could see that or
something. And then but I've notreally taken the tire and the wheel liner
and to get a really good lookat the whole thing yet. Yeah.
(22:18):
Yeah, that's what I need todo. Ye, try that and then
uh, you know if it isif if it is those bolts, you
know, like I said, Igot a great guy that'll take get them
out for you. So all right, all right, cool, Thanks,
I appreciate the question. I havea great weekend. All right, bye
bye. Already gonna taking your phonecalls and I'm wann to call five on
three seven nine fifty five hundred comingup. We've got Jerry Don and Charlie.
(22:41):
You're listening to the car show.I'm fifty five KRC the talk station.
Welcome back, taking your car questionsand I'm gonna call five on three
seven fifty and you guys are youguys are lighting me up right now.
So I want to get to Iwant to get to everybody. I really
do appreciate it. Um. Andagain that's what I'm here for that's I'm
(23:04):
here to help you in any waythat I can. Um, you know
so again. UM, let's getto the phones. We've got to let
me go. I usually go tobuy everybody. Of course, by how
long you've been on hold? Ofcourse. UM let's go to Jerry.
Hey, Jerry, welcome to thecar show. How can I help?
Mister Dane? How are you doingtoday? I'm good, sir. How
(23:25):
are you? I'll keep I amfine, I'll keep this short. I
have a friend of mine whose familyruns a body shop and toe company over
in Indiana, right across the border, a little bit west of Harrison,
Ohio. Um, they are nottowing the electrical vehicles evs. They bought
a new rollback and the cost ofthe insurance to to ensure that there they
(23:48):
got two rollbacks and a wheel lift. Um, they won't do it.
Have you have you run? Ionly looked at I don't own an EV
I don't know if you've run acrossthat. That was my question for it.
Since I've sent my me out ofyour shop, so it's not that
big of a deal. But Iwas just curious, have you come across
that? I have not, Butlet me, why why won't they tell
(24:10):
evs costs of insurance be insure ofwith like Tesla fires. First you need
a bunch of Class B fired singuisherson board, and then the cost of
insurance. Because of you followed insuranceand underwriters, you know that. Um
they know where the loss is andthey don't want they don't want to roll
(24:32):
back to become part of the ofthe problem. And they hauled. They
basically are on call for the IndianaState trippers and the county that they're in't
over in Indiana, but they cannottew evs. That is so I didn't
know if you said I didn't.I was going to call you last weekend.
I just wanted to call when youdidn't have anyone calm. But I
(24:55):
didn't know if you come across it. I'm down here in pleasant Ridge,
which right not too far from you, but um he his family does it
an occasion. We'll have to getcalled in to help toe. But I
didn't know if you'd come across that. So it's just one of those ones,
A one huh. So I giveyou a call because all right on
a lot of cars. I appreciateit. No, I am not thank
(25:15):
you so much. I have notheard that. That's that's interesting. Um,
that's see, that's that's the thingis like, you know, we
kind of go down a slippery slopehere, right, you know. Not
now if you're towing cars. Uh, you gotta have more insurance to cover
the fires for them. Um.The other thing, and he talked about
they had a body shop too.The other things. These batteries are ridiculous
(25:38):
on these cars. So um,real quick, I'm gonna get the callers.
You know, we had one ofthose which Chevy announced that they're not
building it anymore. But the thethe Chevy um oh shoot uh, the's
no, it wasn't the um thebolt the bolt b O L T B
as a boy, um the Chevybolt. They are no longer going to
(26:03):
produce. However, we had onein the shop not too long ago.
It's about three years old. Ithink they MSRP for like thirty thirty two
thousand, I think it was atthe time. And my cousin Kyle had
called and said, hey, Ineed a price on the battery, thinking
he wants a price on the startingbattery and at the car battery. Well,
(26:25):
the you know the guy that waslooking up the service manager. I'm
sorry. The parts manager looked itup. He goes, Holy cow,
he goes the battery to run thatcar, to replace it was thirty thousand
dollars. Now the car brand newis thirty two thousand. But to replace
just the battery that was just forthe part that wasn't even to install,
(26:48):
it was thirty thousand dollars. Andyou know, for somebody who you know,
I don't know. You're pulling outof a grocery store and they've got
a rock at the end of it, and you go over a curb a
rock, and you hit that battery. Things to toasted, totaled, which
I was like, man, thatthat is. So I don't know.
I don't know how this is allgonna work out, but we'll figure it
(27:11):
out eventually, I guess. Soall right, let's get back to the
phones. We've got, UM,We've got Don Don Welcome to Hey,
Don, welcome to car show. How can help? How do you think
I was calling? I'm good? How are you good? I'm doing all
right? I'm calling about my car. UM. I just to get I
(27:34):
had this card for three years andI always every time I get gassed,
the dash would say, twenty onepoint four average miles per gallon, And
then I noticed a few months agoit starts saying eighteen point five. And
now when I got gass Thursday,it's saying sixteen or seventeen point six.
(28:00):
Is this my concern? I don'tknow if it's a gas price or is
something my car's old? Does thismean something's going on in the motor that
I need to address that my gasmileage pane? Sure? Yeah? Possibly?
Um it says here that you've gota twenty and ten four fusion,
(28:25):
Yes, okay. Do you knowif it's a four cylinder or or six
cylinder? I believe it's it's sixokay? And how many miles do you
have on it? One hundred andseven? I'm sorry one hundred and seven?
Yes, okay? Do you know? I mean the first thing we're
gonna ask is do you know hasit been tuned up? And when I
(28:48):
say that, have the spark plugsbeen replaced? No? The only thing
that I do I do faithfully.I do the oil change. Um,
I rode seas into tires, andI keep the inflation and the tires right,
(29:08):
they do that, tony, Okay. But as far as an actual
tune up. I have not donethat, okay, so what I what
I think the easiest the things thatwe need to focus on and start with
is one, make sure again andyou did say it, make sure your
tires are properly inflated, right, because that's if they're not, you're going
(29:29):
to get you know, obviously moreresistance. The car is going to be
better and more gas if the tiresare properly inflated. What I want you
to do next is one, wasthe air filter replaced? Last? Do
you know when you do an oilchange, is that just the they should
(29:52):
check the oil? Yes? Soso what can so if if you if
you know, next time you getan oil change, have just just gon
firm with them, make sure thatthey do check it and just make sure
that it does look good. Okaybecause we can we can get that.
Uh you know that can cause alittle bit of it. The other thing
is a dirty throttle body. Somethingthat's very I mean you're not it's not
(30:14):
going to be something that necessarily you'regonna be able to do. I mean
it can be done, but um, cleaning the throttle body. So there's
the throttle body. Is you've gota throttle body and a throttle body plate,
and that plate is what when youhit the gas pedal, that plate
is what opens up and allows theair to go into the engine. Okay,
those can be dirty and those cancause fuel issues also doing it.
(30:41):
I was just concerned where it wentfrom because I only I work remote from
home, and I only drive aboutmaybe twenty miles a week at the most,
and how my fuel average fuel milesfor gallon and s drop it.
So yeah, not just gave mea red flag that there's something I need
(31:06):
because I need to still keep thiscar for two or three more years.
You know. Let me ask yousomething too, because you had mentioned too,
because you were talking about gas pricesin that process, have you,
because gas is more expensive, haveyou dropped down in grades of fuel or
have you always used the same gradeof a fuel? I used the middle
grade. I don't do the cheaperone, and I don't do the higher
(31:30):
one. I do the middle andyou have you done that the entire duration
of owning the vehicle? Yeah?Okay, yeah, all right, Okay,
I just want to make sure becauseagain, well there's typically a tick
in as far as like when gasprices go up, people tend to think
that their gas mileage goes down, but really it's just because they're paying more
(31:52):
at the pump and they're just like, man, it just doesn't seem like
it's going as far. But likeyou said, on your on your dash
or on screen, it says thatyou're getting less so and again that's what
that's what my concern is if Ineed to go have something done or something
strepped out, because like I said, um, it just concerns means that
(32:17):
it's dropping down and maybe that meansthe motors. No, something's going on
in the motor. Now, Idon't think there's any concern. I don't
think you need to be concerned byany means that there's something wrong with the
vehicle. Again, there's some minorthings that we can do as far as
you know, making sure the tiresproperly inflated. You could have a brake
(32:37):
caliper or a break hose or somethinglike that. They could possibly be kind
of like hanging up and and thatcan cause it. Again dirty air filter,
carbon or throttle body and maybe thefuel injectors themselves. That there is
we do offer at Donovan's and otherrepair shops do offer it. As well
as a fuel system service and afuel systems services cleaning the mass airflow sensor,
(33:00):
cleaning the throttle body, and thencleaning the injector. Sometimes the injectors
can get dirty and not do whatthey're supposed to do and cause more fuel
usage. But again, to goback to the original, there's there's no
need to be concerned as far asis the car or is there a bigger
(33:23):
underlying issue, And I don't thinkthat's the case. And again, we
do tend to typically see that asa car gets a little bit older,
that fuel mileage can tend to dropoff, even if you've you know,
done everything that you possibly can.So I don't think you need to be
concerned. But again I think there'ssome steps that you know, at one
(33:45):
hundred and seven thousand miles, it'syou're almost due for a tune up,
probably something you should look into, and maybe just doing a fuel system service
and making sure that all of thecomponents to the system are cleaned and operating
correctly. So okay, all right, but you know, keep it going.
A tune a tune service, actuallyjust oil a tune up service,
(34:10):
okay, And again there's oil change, correct, Yeah, because over one
hundred thousand miles to spark plugs,we'll start to get worn out and then
you know, so tune up issomething that you should look into because you're
about due for it as well. So, um, and when if they
do that, and when you're readyfor that, tune up and get it
(34:30):
done. I ask if they'll doa fuel system service, right, which
is cleans the whole fuel system service. Okay system, yeah, okay,
all right, all right, Iappreciate. All right, you have a
great weekend. All right, byebye, all right again? Taking your
phone? Well fine, I am, but man, we've got I've got
(34:52):
three. I got Charlie, Vincentand Karen Um coming up. You're listening
to car show and fifty five KRCthe talk station taking your car questions.
You're listening to car show. Iwant fifty five k the talk station.
Let's uh, we are, We'reI will, I will do my absolute
(35:14):
best to get to everybody. Imay be a little short, not to
be rude, um, just Iwant to get to everybody's questions. So
let's get back to the phones. We've got Charlie, Hey, Charlie,
welcome to car show. How couldhelp? Oh, I don't really need
help. I just wanted to comment, I'm uh all you talked about check
out your air conditioning. I've gota twenty thirteen Silverado with the five point
(35:42):
three engine, but at any rate, I just wanted to say, with
ninety three thousand my air, Ijust checked it out like he said to
do. And it is nice andcold, so pretty good, right,
yeah, absolutely, and you knowabsolutely, And that's the thing. Just
check it out, check it out, make sure it's working. But that's
(36:04):
the thing is like man, itjust they don't build things like they used
to. I mean, like Isaid, my little Civics twenty three years
old. I've had to charge atonce, and I got cars coming in
that are one or two years old, and it's so expensive. So and
again, it just avoids that whole. Usually when we get you know,
that ninety degree heat, we getthis massive influx of everybody trying to get
(36:27):
in, and I just want toget people in now. That way,
they avoid the rush and they canyou know, not be in that discomfort.
Because I was in a car justyesterday my cousin, you know who's
my you know, business partner. He goes, hey, can you drive
this car? I'm like, yeah, I mean it's yesterday. It was
pretty hot and I'm driving a jeepdoesn't have air conditioning in two of the
(36:50):
windows don't roll down, and Iwas dying, and I'm like, I'm
maybe maybe I'm built a little different. But I'm like, I can't.
I don't know how people drive.I don't know how they do it.
I just, um, I guessI gotta suck it up. But I'm
like, it was just like I'mjust it was awful. So but no,
I appreciate your question, Charlie. You have a great weekend. All
(37:12):
right, man, thanks you.All right, all right, let's go
back to the phones. Maybe I'mjust too soft. I guess I can't
drive around in a hot car.So all right, let's get to Vincent.
Hey, Vincent, Hey, Vincent, welcome to the car. So
how can I help? How areyou doing there? I'm good? How
are you okay? Thanks for takingthe car. I wanted to ask you
(37:34):
something I notice has been going onseventy one highways here lately. Is a
lot of cars been getting flat tires. But when they get flat, it's
like the whole tire is shredded offof the ram. What would cause that.
I mean, like somebody took anice a hot knife and just cut
yeah tire right in the middle ofthe wall, part of the tire,
(37:59):
all the way around on both sides. That's a great question. So what
I've seen in these manufacturers, soa lot of two things can cause it.
One, Um, we all havetire lights, right, but we
typically tend to just ignore them, right. Um, But a lot of
times, you know, you getyou get a nail, or you have
a slow leak, and what happensis people will tend to drive on it
(38:21):
like half in place. So mosttires supposed to take thirty five pounds a
time thirty five PSI right, youknow, let's just say that tires down
to fifteen pounds. They don't knowit. Tire light's always on and over
that over time, that tire getsextremely hot in that side wall gets hot
and you know, you're you're onthe highway going sixty seventy miles an hour
and it'll just bake that tire. But what I think it is is when
(38:47):
I started doing this twenty two twentythree years ago, the sidewall, the
side wall of the tire was extremelyI mean it was very firm, it
was very thick, and it feltlike the product was there. I mean,
I grabbed a tire the other day. I'm not gonna say the brand.
I grabbed a tire the other day, and I'm telling you what paper
I mean, it felt paper thin, just absolutely paper thin. I'm like,
(39:10):
I can't believe. So I thinkthat has something to do with it
too. It's just once these thingsget low, they get them hot,
and when they bait, you know, they get as hot as they do,
they break them and then the sidewalljust can't handle it because the sidewall
is just so thin. I mean, it's it's okay, so okay,
so go ahead. I was justgonna say, it's just it's the way
(39:35):
they're the way they're designing these tiresnowaday. I mean I gotta tire the
go ahead real cheap. Yeah, okay, the cost isn't cheaper. The
cost is more expensive than it's everbeen, right, But yeah, I
think they're trying to cut costs andyou know, make more money and put
less rubber on the on the ground. So and and on that boat.
(39:58):
That boat's thirty seven, not notthirty four. I've seen it up at
McCluskey game, Deerfield Township. It'sthirty four, okay, yeah, I
couldn't remember thirty seven okay, butI mean thirty seven. And it's a
small car. And can you imaginewe'll replace it thirty thousand dollars for the
battery in that thing? Clint wouldnever even purchase it. I just looked
at it. Have a good day, all right, take care? All
(40:20):
right, bye bye. So thirtyseven thousand. I stayed corrected. And
again this was probably back in maybethis was about three years ago. But
again, Chevy's not making the boltanymore. So all right, let's go
back to the phones. We've gotKaren, Hey, Karen, welcome to
car show. How can I helpHi? Thank you so much for taking
my call. Are you calling from? It says here you call from Louisville?
(40:42):
Huh yeah, outside of Louisville.Yeah, all right, I was
just down there two weeks ago.I love I love it down there so
nice. Now it is nice.It is nice, I agree, but
I love since Nati. Are youtoo? That's nice? Also? Yeah?
Well, how can I help you? Well, actually, it's just
probably a silly question. We havea two thousand and five four Runner that
(41:06):
has a lot of miles on it, and we're going to hand that down
to the granddaughter, and so we'relooking to replace it, of course with
another SUV. And we love Toyotas. We've always had Toyotas, so we're
looking at another four Runner or aSequoya and also we've kind of thrown into
the mix Selexus GX. All Iwanted to know was do you have an
(41:28):
opinion about those three vehicles? Imean, I know one of these six,
the others are or the age cylinder, I know all that, But
do you have an opinion maintenance?Yeah? Absolutely great question. So,
um, well, first and foremostthose three vehicles, you couldn't pick a
better lineup. Okay, all threeof them. All three of them are
(41:50):
home run. You. I don'tthink that you can really go wrong with
any of them. Now, Ireally do like the Lexus because again it's
you know, it's made by Toyota, right. Exus is so there's so
much nicer, they ride better,it's a better it's a it's a much
better vehicle. It's a better ride. Um. But with that said,
and of course the cost is alittle bit more, but um, and
(42:12):
they they're the the repair is goingto be more. But these cars,
either one of those of all threeof them are going to be low maintenance.
Um. And but again, theLexus is going to be the best.
But again it's going to be themost to repair. But I don't
have a problem with that. UMMy mother owns a Sequoia, my dad
(42:32):
owns a Tundra, and the forerunners are great as well. I think
you hit a home run with anyof them. Um, Okay, you
know, Okay, I'd get theLexus. Okay, I'd splurge a little
bit, get the Lexus. Okay, do you have an idea what mileage
to stay around? They use?Is not a new anything I would I
(42:55):
wouldn't go anything over one hundred thousand, anything under one hundred thousand or less.
I think you're perfectly fine. Allright, she's gone. All right,
great question. Thank you so muchfor calling. Everybody enjoyed the weekend.
Really do appreciate it. I'll beback next Saturday to answer all of
your car questions. If you're listeningto Car Show on fifty five k r
(43:16):
C D talk station,
