(00:01):
Snapping out of keeping song. Igotta keep baby a song. It made
one to roll my window down.Good afternoon, and welcome to the car
(00:26):
show. I'm thirty five KRC.I'm Dane Donovan. Then taking your car
questions. Love to hear from you. What a gorgeous Saturday so far.
The number to call five one three, seven four nine fifty five hundred.
That number again, five one three, seven four nine fifty five hundred or
one eight hundred eight two three talk. That's one eight hundred eight two three
eight two five five so again thatthat is why I'm here. I'm from
(00:50):
Donovan's Otto Entire Center and again takingyour car questions anything that may pertain to
the vehicle and um in recently thepast couple of weeks, you know,
the he of the show, I'myou know, asking everybody, Hey,
call me up. It always seemslike towards the end of the show,
I get all the callers and thenI'm having to not get to all the
(01:10):
calls. Okay, So I wouldreally like to do that, So call
in now that way I can answeryour question and that unfortunately not get to
you so real quick. And Italked about this last week and I'm sure
you've got the air condition and Ihad my air conditioning on in my vehicle
all my way here because it's alittle steamy. Seventy seventies not steamy,
(01:33):
but you know, when you're dealingwith thirties, right when you wake up
in the morning, it's thirty twodegrees and then you know by the end
of the day that our bodies arejust not adjusted to it. And now
if we went through a you know, two three weeks of the nineties,
seventies would be a cold chill, right, we'll be wearing sweaters. So
it's just hard to adjust to sincethen weather is just always you know,
(01:55):
again, wait ten minutes and it'llchange. So but if you're in the
car, and maybe you don't havea question, but if you do,
if you do have the air conditionon. And I tried to touch on
this last week and then again, like I said, we got a little
busy with the calls, and that'swhat I'm here for. But air conditioning
can be very complex, and it'ssomething that I believe we need to discuss
(02:17):
and talk about in the sense thatsome of the common myths, right,
so coolant, right, A lotof people think that coolant is what keeps
the car cool, the air conditioningcool that AD is. But what coolant
does is keeps the car from overheating. Right. But the air, the
cold air that you get inside yourvehicle is free on. It's a gas.
(02:38):
Okay now for years and years andyears free on R one thirty four,
it's called has been used years.I mean, prior to that was
R twelve something. You may rememberthe R twelve, but now it's our
one thirty four, okay. Andthere are several components to the air conditioning
and this and we try to harpon this all the time at Donavance.
(02:59):
Right. If your air conditioning isnot working, there's there's quite the process
to figure out exactly why it's not. And nine out of ten times it's
usually because the free on has leakedout. The freons leaked out and again
freons a gas, so we don'tknow where it leaked out at Okay.
So the very first step, Soif you've turned out air condition on and
it feels warm, and I've alreadygot several calls already this year, already,
(03:23):
if the air conditioning is not working, right, the first step,
the first thing that you have todo is you need to find out if
the vehicle has freon in it andit's not. You can't look through an
hour glass, you can't walk, not an hourglass, but you can't work
look through a glass. You can'tlook through a jug. It's gas.
There's no way that you can physicallyfind you know, you at home can
(03:44):
find out if you have freon inyour system. It needs to be hooked
up to a machine and the machinewill sock it down, find out exactly
how much freon they pulled out ofthe system, and then how much freon
needs to go needs to go backin. Okay, So that's the very
first process. And when we dothat there is a charge of course,
because you know we're putting the freeon in. We're hooking up to a
(04:05):
machine. And what we do isin all shops they'll put a dye in
there, okay, a fluorescent greendye that will show up under a black
light. The reason we do thatis if I feel your air conditioning up
today and two weeks later it's leakedout again, I don't know where it
leaked out at, right, Soyou put the dye in there to try
to find out where it leaked outat. So that's step one and then
(04:27):
you go from there. You know, and again, the air conditioning has
several components. You have an ACcompressor, you have an AC condensed here,
an evaporator, you have lines. There's a lot of components. And
you know, a lot of peopleare misguided as to when you bring your
card to me and say, hey, my air condition Dane, my air
conditioning is not working. I feelit. I charge it back up with
(04:50):
free on. Right. I didn'tfix anything, I just filled it back
up. And the easiest analogy thatI can use is it's like, look,
if you have a whole inner two, how are you going to find
that hole? The only way thatyou can find that hole in that inner
tube is if you air it up. That's how you're going to find the
whole. And again, if you'rethe freon has leaked out, there's no
way for me to to to determinewhere it leaked out at unless I charge
(05:14):
it up and put a guy inthere. And again, it could last
for two days, it could lastfor two years, Okay, because it
could be it depends on the sizeof the league. Um, it's a
very large leak. We we're usuallyeasily determine that you won't leave the shop.
We'll be able to figure out becausethe machine will will vacuum down the
system and will it'll fail a test, a vacuum testum. So, and
(05:38):
then let's just say bring it tome and say, hey, your compressor's
leak in. Okay, um,well we put a compressor in it.
We remember we didn't need You've gota condenser as well, you've got an
evaporator, you've got lines, umthose all of those components are very expensive.
So typically you will only replace thepart that's failed. It's way too
(06:00):
expensive to replace all of them.Okay, So it's something that you know,
you just need to have knowledge ofthat if your air conditioning isn't working.
These these this is the process. These are the steps okay. But
lately all of these newer cars umI have a new free on in them,
which is of course very expensive. It's one two, three, four
(06:25):
yf okay, very expensive. Soa typical ac recharge. Right if you
bring me to your you bring yourcar to to me or any other shop.
Of course, prices are going tovary, but typically it's about one
hundred and fifty bucks maybe to rechargeit okay. However, the one two
three four YF starts at three hundreddollars and can go up from there depending
(06:47):
upon how much free once in thesystem. Now, I talked about it
last week as well. I havea two thousand Honda Civic and it's twenty
three years old. One time haveI had to read charged the AC one
time in twenty three years? Right? I am seeing cars that are one
two, three years old needing arecharge and it's the one two three four
(07:14):
YF. And it can get veryexpensive very quickly. Um. I just
had a car that was it wasa twenty twenty two. It's one year
old, and uh it's I thinkit was a hunday. I think it's
a hunday. It was a hundayand already had an AC problem. Film
was gone. So you gotta havethe knowledge as to how this whole process
(07:38):
works, right, because the onetwo three four YF is expensive. And
again that's that's what's going on allthese newer cars. And you know,
again, even if you pay thethree hundred dollars, you need to have
the mindset that nothing is being fixed. All we're doing is filling the system
back up now, hopefully if youwherever they put that die in there,
(08:01):
hopefully wherever it leaked out, thatthey're gonna be able to determine where it
came from. And that's not alwaysthe case sometimes of a FA evaporator's leak,
and sometimes you have to charge thetwo or three times to try to
figure out where the die is going, because it will eventually, the evaporator
will eventually the drain will eventually popup with some die. So it's it's
something that you think about. Andagain I talked about this last week.
(08:24):
The air conditioning. If you're airconditioning, turn it on right now,
make sure it's working. If it'snot, schedule an appointment, because what's
gonna happen is usually we get that, you know, we get that hot
streak right where we've got like thefirst ninety degree ninety degree day, and
all of a sudden, everybody's tryingto get in there, and we can't
(08:45):
get to everybody right away, rightand then you're driving around miserable for two
or three days trying to get injust to get the air conditioning EF fix.
So if you think it's not ascold as it should be, or
maybe it wasn't working last year. Now time to get in okay, because
there's not this massive influx of everybodywanting to get in here. So just
(09:05):
something to think about it and again, whatever it may whatever it may be,
we don't even have to talk aboutyour condition. If you've got any
type of I mean, you know, maybe you're in the market to buy
a new or used vehicle. Maybeyou know you have a maintenance question.
That's what I'm here for. I'dlove to hear from you. Phone lines
were wide open. The number tocall again five one three seven four nine
fifty five hundred, that number onemore time five one three seven four nine
(09:28):
fifty five hundred or one hundred eighttwo three talk that number again one eight
hundred eight two three eight two fivefive. So all right, love to
hear from you. Give me acall. There's everybody's got car problems.
I told you last week I hadone myself, so I'd love to hear
from you. You're listening to thecar show. I'm fifty five KRC the
talk station. Welcome back, takingyour card questions again, number to call
(09:52):
five on three seven four nine fiftyfive hundred. So I was reading this
came out earlier this week. I'dlove to hear your thoughts on this.
And I'm not trying to be controversialby any means, but um, California
will not allow heavy duty diesel trucksales after twenty thirty six, you know,
(10:13):
and again to go to the wholeev market, right, trying to
go to to to all electric, and there's so many I just don't think
we can all want afford or ourcan our grid even be able to charge
all those vehicles? You know whatI mean? Um, So I thought
(10:33):
that was interesting. But if you'vegot to if you've got a thought on
that, I just you know,it doesn't say though, it doesn't say
whether or not they're going to banthe sale. I don't I'm sure they're
not going to ban them driving aroundwith California because I don't know how they're
going to get there. Uh youknow, they're free. But all right,
let's go to the phones. We'vegot Uh see here, we've got
(10:56):
aiden aid and welcome to car.So I gonna help Well you could help
him catch a ball a little bitbetter. This is your dad. Were
you figured it out? I'm sureyou figured it out, But you're a
little controversial. Thing about the trucks. I just think that a lot of
(11:18):
things that they say aren't going tocome to fruition, right, Yeah,
I mean the weight of all thebatteries and we just can't possibly create all
those batteries. And I'm telling you, I mean, I agree with you
one d Per. I just say, you know, Declin just made a
great little catch. So obviously aDane's Sons baseball games. So yeah,
(11:41):
we three games before one o'clock today, So three games, so we're at
the last one. So but asfar as the argandition, the y you
know, one, two, three, you know, four y you know,
isn't that a hard one to findtoo, Dane? Isn't that leak
a hard one to find? Yeah? Usually, Yeah, absolutely, I
mean it's the most expensive, right, and you know that's why, you
(12:09):
know, I'm like, hey,you know, just because there needs to
be and we we do. Wedo a great job explaining that. Hey,
look bye, we you know,we have to start somewhere and this
is how the process is. Right, and if you don't properly educate the
customer as to how the process works, it leaves leaves them frustrated because if
(12:31):
two weeks later, the air conditioningis not working again. Right, they
just paid one hundred and fifty orthey just paid three hundred, right with
the one two three four yf um. It leaves that. It leaves that
feeling as if you know, we'reyeah, you're absolutely right. It starts
up at the front. Right.Hold on, someone's bugging me. Didn't
want to talk to you. Holdon, Hey be a little bits.
(13:03):
You're on the kill. All right, Hey, I gotta get going.
I got some I got some callers, all right, all right, take
care, all right, bye bye. Uh, there's uh, there's the
family all together watching baseball. Soall right again the number call five on
(13:26):
three seven, four nine fifty fivehundred. Let's go back to the phones
we've got. Marcus, I'm sorry, is it? Is it? How
do you say it? Is it? Okay? All right, I'm just
just missing an R. So Marcus, welcome to show. How can I
help you? Got it? How'sit going? I'm good? He got
double headered. We've got a doubleheader to try to get intomorrow. Oh
(13:48):
yeah, well yeah with that rain. Um, I don't know. Well,
I actually I have tickets to theReds game two tomorrow, and I'm
like, h not looking good forus tomorrow, but we'll see. Yeah,
keep your fingers crossed, yes, sir, Well, how can I
help you? So? Working onin twenty ten F one sixty one hundred
thousand miles five point four leader engineand I've been having for a while now
(14:13):
at ticking sound, ticking or tappingsound on the right passenger side of the
engine, and I was wondering ifyou had any tips or trick These trucks
are known to have some valve trainissues that can come up and manifest that
way. But I'm also wondering couldit be the exhaust manifold? It sounds,
(14:35):
you know, like it could be, but I'm wondering if you had
any tips or tricks to figure outone or the other. Absolutely great question,
so real quick. The ticking ortapping sound. Is it more noticeable
when you start the vehicle up afterit's been cold, like it's Saturday night,
and then maybe as as it getswarmed up, it deep the sound
(14:56):
deep the tapping decreases and it's notas out or is it always consistent?
Yeah? So um, good question. It it started out that it would
be tappy and making that sound immediatelyupon the startup, and if I would
give it a little gas, itseemed like it would quiet it a quieted
(15:16):
down a little bit. But nowit's, um, it's pretty much all
the time, all driving speeds, you know, it follows the rpm of
the engine. And yeah, it'sjust constant from startup all the way through
the full operating temperature. Okay,so obviously I'm going to tell you most
likely it's the manifold bolts that arust and broke off, and they're they've
(15:37):
just gotten worse, not unlike ninetynine percent sure that it's a manifold bolt
that's cracked. And what happens isthat manifold warps, right, and even
if it's you know, because ofthe heat, because that bolt's not no
longer they're keeping it, you know, flush with the with the cylinder head,
it gets hot and it's it's it'sstarting to walk away essentially and warp
(15:58):
more more and more and to theto the point where and again you could
have you could have several manifold boltsbroken. Um And the fact that it's
only on one side is again usuallyindication that it's a manifold. Now,
um, I honestly, I reallyhave to hear the noise. Um to
(16:21):
know for sure, because if it'sa manifold, I can tell you right
immediately. Um yeah. The otherthe other it sounds like it could be.
I mean from what I've heard before. Um yeah, when you hear
it, it seems like it couldbe. I just was a little bit
thrown off because I know they havea valve train issue that's kind of the
(16:41):
same happened thing. But yeah, and and they're not. It's not a
huge problem. I mean I talkedlast week, you know, because I've
got a five point four leader,Um, you know three valve forward engine
that you know, you know thespark plugs break off inside the cylinder heads
or whatnot. But um, Ihad a weird ticking noise and I'm like,
what is that noise? And Iknew it wasn't a manifold bolt,
(17:03):
but I thought it was internal. My tech, my my top technician.
I was like, man, Ithink the spark plug is loose and you're
hearing the and I'm like, noway that, there's no way. I
was like, it's it's too deep. Um sure enough, he tightened it
down. He was right on themoney. Noise one way immediately, So
that's the other thing. So,uh, manifold bolts one number two spark
(17:27):
plug maybe walking out right because yougot the cool the coils bolted on right,
so it's not it's not gonna goanywhere a lot. Sometimes they can
blow out. Um, but I'mwilling to bet I would make sure that
the all the spark plugs are type. If it is a manifold bolt,
it can It can get expensive becauseyou need to take them all out,
(17:52):
and then I would recommend that youreplaced the manifold because again it's warped.
Um. I got a guy thatwould that can remove those those bolts when
they break off inside the cylinder head. Uh, they break off flush and
you got to drill them out.I've got a great guy herbs machine shop
(18:14):
the cylind Yeah nor nope, youdo it in the car. You gotta
ta tire off. You gotta takethe thunder liner out and then he can
access it from there. And he'smobile so he can come to you.
If that's the case. I don'tknow if he says here you're from Mount
Or, I don't know if hewould drive that far. I mean,
you might need to bring it alittle bit closer to the city. But
(18:36):
I'm I'm ninety nine sure it's amanifold bolt, and you just what happens
is the fact that it's just louderand it's more consistent, is probably more
likely just one or more bolts havebroke off. I'll be honest with you.
Yeah, because I'll be honest withyou, I'm not saying that just
because I haven't seen it doesn't meanit's not possible. But I have not
(18:56):
seen that engine come into my shopwith a vavet, with a with a
you know, a lifter. Youknow, with engine major internal engine issues,
it's always a spark plug or amanifold bolt. Yeah, okay,
well I'm gonna check those spark plugsfirst. That'll be easy then funny if
that's it, Yeah, hopefully itis. Otherwise I'll go after that manifold
(19:18):
and like I said, Herbs MachineShop. If the manifold, you know,
it's really you can you can doit yourself on those manifold bolts.
Just get in that. You're notgonna be able to see it from the
top. You do need to,you know, you probably need to pull
the wheel off on that side, you know, jack it up, pull
the wheel off, you'll be ableto see those manifold bolts. They're in
all the corners. I mean ifyou just you know, google them.
(19:41):
You know, you know, amanifold itself, and you can see where
the holes are. Right if youlook at a picture of a new manifold
and look at the holes and thencompare it to to your truck, and
you're gonna see one's missing. It'sit's so you're I mean, you're you.
You can go in there and lookout yourself. Yeah, it'll be
obvious, and a lot of timestoo, a lot of times too,
(20:03):
you'll see like black carbon. Sometimesyou can see black carbon from you know,
from the you know, combustion, and you'll see it kind of.
Yeah. So yeah, that's whatI did look for. At first,
I was looking for black carbone hopefullyhoping I could see that or something and
didn't. But I'm not really takenthe tire and the wheel liner and to
get a really good look at thewhole thing yet. Yeah, yeah,
(20:29):
that's what I need to do.Yeah, try that and then uh,
you know, if it is.If if it is, those bolts,
you know, like I said,I got a great guy that'll take get
them out. For you. Soall right, all right, cool,
I appreciate the question. I havea great weekend. All right, bye
bye, already gonna take in yourphone calls and I order call five one,
three seven nine fifty five hundred comingup. We've got Jerry, Don
(20:52):
and Charlie. You're listening to thecar show. I'm fifty five KRC the
talk station, welcome back, takingyour car questions and I'm gonna call five
on three seven you guys are you? Guys? Are lighting me up right
now? So I want to getto I want to get to everybody.
I really do appreciate it. Um, and again that's what I'm here for.
(21:15):
That's I'm here to help you inany way that I can. UM,
you know. So again, UM, let's get to the phones we've
got. Let's go ahead. Iusually go to buy everybody. Of course,
by how long you've been on hold? Of course. UM. Let's
go to Jerry and Jerry welcome tothe car So how can I help mister
Dane? How are you doing today? I'm good, sir, How are
(21:36):
you? I'll keep I am fine, I'll keep this short. I have
a friend of mine whose family runsa body shop and coe company over in
Indiana, right across the border,a little bit west of the Harrison,
Ohio. UM, they are nottowing the electrical vehicles EVS. They bought
a new rollback and the cost ofthe insurance to to ensure that they're they
(22:00):
got two rollbacks and a wheel lift. They won't do it. Have you
have you run I only looked atI don't own an EV I don't know
if you've run across that. Thatwas my question for us, since I've
sent my me out of your shops, so it's not that big of a
deal. But I was just curious, have you come across that? I
have not? But let me whyWhy won't they tell EVS costs of insurance
(22:23):
ensure of with like Tesla fiers.First you need a bunch of Class D
fired singuishers on board, and thenthe cost of insurance because if you followed
insurance and underwriters, you know that. UM, they know where the loss
is and they don't want they don'twant the rollback to become part of the
(22:45):
of the problem, and they hauled. They basically are on call for the
Indiana State Trippers and the county thatthey're in't over in Indiana, but they
cannot tow evs. That is soI didn't know, you said, I
didn't. I was going to callyou last weekend. I just wanted to
call when you didn't have anyone calm. But I didn't know if you come
(23:06):
across it. I'm down here andplays a ridge. It's great, not
too far from you. Yeah, but he his family doesn't. An occasional
we'll have to get called in tohelp toe. But I didn't know if
you'd come across that. So it'sjust one of those ones. A one.
Huh. I give you a callbecause all right, you on a
lot of cars. I appreciate it. No, I am not thank you
so much. I have not heardthat. That's that's interesting. Um,
(23:33):
that's see, that's that's the thing. It's like, you know, we
kind of go down a slippery slopehere right. You know now if you're
towing cars, Uh, you gottahave more insurance to cover the fires for
him. Um the other thing, and he talked about they had a body
shop too. The other things. These batteries are ridiculous on these cars.
So um, real quick, I'mgonna get the callers. You know,
we had one of those which Chevyannounced that they're not building anymore. But
(23:57):
the the Chevy um oh shoot,uh the no, it wasn't them.
The bolt, the bolt b olt bs and boy, the Chevy bolt
they are no longer going to produce. However, we had one in the
shop not too long ago. It'sabout three years old. Um. I
(24:19):
think the MSRP for like thirty thirtytwo thousand, I think it was at
the time, and my cousin Kylehad called and said, hey, I
need a price on the battery, thinking he wants the price on the starting
battery, and at the car battery, Well, the you know the guy
that was looking up the service manager, I'm sorry, the parts manager looked
(24:41):
it up. He goes, holycow, he goes the battery to run
that car, to replace it wasthirty thousand dollars. Now the car brand
new is thirty two thousand. Butto replace just the battery that's that was
just for the part that wasn't evento install it with thirty thousand dollars.
(25:03):
And you know, for somebody whoyou know, I don't know. You're
pulling out of a grocery store andthey've got a rock at the end of
it and you go over a curveor a rock and you hit that battery.
Things to toasted, totaled, whichI was like, man, that
that is so I don't know.I don't know how this is all going
to work out, but we'll figureit out eventually, I guess. So
all right, let's get back tothe phones. We've got, Um,
(25:26):
We've got Don Don. Welcome toHey, Don, welcome to the car
show. How can help? Honey? Dan? I always calling? I'm
good, How are you good?I'm doing all right? I'm calling about
my cart. Um, I justtoo get I had just called for three
(25:47):
years, and I always every timeI get the dash would say twenty one
point four abs miles per gallon,And then I know a few months ago
it starts saying eighteen point five, and now when I got gass Thursday,
(26:07):
it's saying sixteen or seventeen point six. Is this my concern? I don't
know if it's a gas price oris something my car is old? Does
this mean something's going on in themotor that I need to address that my
gas mileage? Sure? Yeah?Possibly it says here that you've got a
(26:32):
twenty and ten four fusion. Yeah, okay. Do you know if it's
a four cylinder or or sixth cylinder? I believe it's it's six okay?
And how many miles do you haveon it? Hundred and seven? I'm
sorry one hundred and seven? Yes, okay? Do you know? I
(26:53):
mean the first thing we're gonna askis do you know has it been tuned
up? In? When I saythat, has have the spark plugs been
replaced? The only thing that Ido I do faithfully is I do the
oil change. Um, I rodeset into tires and I keep the inflation
(27:18):
and the tires right. They dothat, tony, okay, But as
far as an actual tune up,I have not done that. Okay.
So what I what I think theeasiest the things that we need to focus
on and start with is one, make sure again and you did say it,
make sure your tires are properly inflated, right, because that's if they're
(27:40):
not, you're going to get,you know, obviously, more resistance.
The car's going to be better andmore gas if the tires are properly inflated.
What I want you to do nextis one, was the air filter
replaced? Last? Do you knowwhen you do an oil change? Is
that it's they should check that.Yes, so so what can so if
(28:04):
if you if you know, nexttime you get a role change, have
just just confirm with them, makesure that they do check it and just
make sure that it does look good. Okay, because we can we can
get that. Uh you know thatcan cause a little bit of it.
The other thing is a dirty throttlebody, something that's very I mean you're
not it's not going to be somethingthat necessarily you're gonna be able to do.
(28:25):
I mean it can be done, but um, cleaning the throttle body.
So there's the throttle body. Isthat you've got a throttle body and
a throttle body plate and that plateis what when you hit the gas pedal,
that plate is what opens up andallows the air to go into the
engine. Okay, those can bedirty and those can cause fuel issues also
(28:48):
doing it. I was just concernedwhere it went from because I only I
work for remote from home and Ionly drive about maybe twenty miles a week
at the most, and how myfuel average fuel miles per gallon, it's
drop it. So yeah, thatjust gave me a red flag that there's
(29:12):
something I might need because I needto still keep this car for two or
three more years. I don't know. Let me ask you something too,
because you had mentioned too, becauseyou were talking about gas prices in that
process, have you, because gasis more expensive, have you dropped down
in grades of fuel or have youalways used the same grade of fuel?
(29:34):
I used the middle grade. Idon't do the cheaper one, and I
don't need a higher one. I'ddo the middle and you have you done
that the entire duration of owning thevehicle? Yeah? Okay, yeah,
all right, okay, I justwant to make sure because again, well
there's typically a tick in as faras like when gas prices go up,
(29:56):
people tend to think that their gasmileage goes down down, but really it's
just because they're paying more at thepump and they're just like, man,
it just doesn't seem like it's goingas far. But like you said,
on your on your dash or onyour screen, it says that you're getting
less. So and again that's whatthat's what my concern is if I need
(30:18):
to go have something done or somethingspreads out, because like I said,
um, it just concerns me asthat it's dropping down and maybe that means
the motors no something's going on inthe motor. Now, I don't think
there's any concern. I don't thinkyou need to be concerned by any means
that there's something wrong with the vehicle. Again, there's some minor things that
(30:42):
we can do as far as youknow, making sure the tire is properly
inflated. You could have a breakcaliper or a break hose or something like
that. They could possibly be kindof like hanging up and and that can
cause it. Again dirty air filter, carbon or throttle body, and maybe
the fuel injectors themselves. That thereis We do offer at Donovan's and other
(31:04):
repair shops do offer it as wellas a fuel system service and a fuel
system services cleaning the mass airflow sensor, cleaning the throttle body, and then
cleaning the injectors. Sometimes the injectorscan get dirty and not do what they're
supposed to do and cause more fuelusage. But again, to go back
(31:25):
to the original, there's no there'sno need to be concerned as far as
is the car or is there abigger underlying issue And I don't think that's
the case. And again we dotend to typically see that as a car
gets a little bit older that fuelmileage can tend to drop off even if
you've you know, done everything thatyou possibly can, so I don't think
(31:49):
you need to be concerned. Butagain, I think there's some steps that
you know, at one hundred andseven thousand miles, it's you're almost due
for a tune up, probably somethingyou should look into, and maybe just
doing a fuel system service and makingsure that all of the components to the
system are cleaned and operating correctly. So okay, all right, but yeah,
(32:10):
you know, keep it going Junea tune service, actually just oil
service, okay, and again there'soil change, correct, Yeah, because
over one hundred thousand miles to sparkplugs, we'll start to get worn out
and then you know, so tuneup is something that you should look into
(32:32):
because you're about due for it aswell. So, um, and when
if they do that, and whenyou're ready for that tune up and get
it done? I ask if they'lldo a fuel system service right which cleans
the whole fuel system service? Okay, system? Yeah, okay, all
right, all right, I appreciate, all right, you have a great
weekend, all right, bye bye? All right again, taking your phone,
(32:55):
Well, what I am. Butman, we've got I've got three.
I got Charlie, Vincent and Karencoming up. You're listening to Car
Show and fifty five KRC the talkstation taking your car questions. You're listening
to car show. I want fiftyfive KRC the talk station. Let's uh
(33:17):
we are wed. I will,I will do my absolute best to get
to everybody. I may be alittle short, not to be rude,
um, just I want to getto everybody's questions. So let's get back
to the phones. We've got Charlie. Hey, Charlie, welcome to Car
Show. How could help? OhI don't really need help. I just
wanted to comment. I'm uh allyou talked about check out your air conditioning.
(33:43):
I've got a twenty thirteen Silverado withthe five point three engine. But
at any rate, I just wantedto say, with ninety three thousand my
air I just checked it out likeyou said to do. And it is
nice and cold, so pretty good, right yeah? Absolutely, and you
(34:06):
know absolutely, And that's the thing. Just check it out, check it
out, make sure it's working. But that's the thing is like man,
it just they don't build things likethey used to. I mean, like
I said, my little Civics twentythree years old. I've had to charge
it once, and I got carscoming in that are one or two years
old, and it's so expensive. So and again, it just avoids the
(34:27):
whole. Usually when we get youknow, that ninety degree heat, we
get this massive influx of everybody tryingto get in, and I just want
to get people in now. Thatway, they avoid the rush and they
can you know, not be inthat discomfort. Because I was in a
car just yesterday. My cousin, you know, who's my you know,
business partner. He goes, hey, can you drive this car? I'm
(34:50):
like yeah, and I'm driving aJeep doesn't have air conditioning. I mean,
two of the windows don't roll down. And I was dying and I'm
like, I'm maybe maybe I'm builta little different. But I'm like,
I can't. I don't know howpeople drive due, I don't know how
they do it. I just Iguess I gotta suck it up. But
I'm like, it was just likeI'm just it was awful. So but
(35:12):
no, I appreciate your question,Charlie. You have a great weekend,
all right, man, Thanks youall right? But by all right,
let's go back to the phones.Maybe I'm just too soft. I guess
I can't drive around in a hotcar. So all right, let's get
to Vincent. Hey, Vincent,Hey, Vincent, welcome to the car.
So how can I help? Howare you doing here? I'm good?
How are you okay? Thanks fortaking the car. I wanted to
(35:37):
ask you. Um, something Inote has been going on seventy one highways
here lately is a lot of car'sbeen getting flat tired. But when they
get flat, it's like the wholetire is shredded off of the ram.
What would cause that? I mean, like somebody took a nice a hot
knife and just cut yeah, higherright in the middle of the wall,
(36:00):
part of the tire, all theway around, on both sides. That's
a great question. So what whatI've seen in these manufacturers? So a
lot of two things can cause it. One, Um, we all have
tire lights, right, but wetypically tend to just ignore them, right.
Um, But a lot of times, you know, you get you
get a nail, or you havea slow leak, and what happens is
(36:22):
people will tend to drive on it, like half in place. So most
tires supposed to take thirty five poundsa time h thirty five PSI right,
yeah, let's just say that tiresdown to fifteen pounds. They don't know
it. Tire light's always on andover that, over time, that tire
gets extremely hot in that side wallgets hot and you know, you're you're
on the highway going sixty seventy milesan hour and it'll just bake that tire.
(36:45):
But what I think it is iswhen I started doing this twenty two
twenty three years ago, the sidewall, the sidewall of the tire was extremely
I mean it was very firm,it was very thick, and it felt
like the product was there. Imean, I grabbed a tire the other
day. I'm not gonna say thebrand. I grabbed the tire the other
(37:07):
day, and I'm telling you whatpaper I mean, it felt paper thin,
just absolutely paper thin. I'm like, I can't believe. So I
think that has something to do withit too. It's just once these things
get low, they get them hot, and when they bait, you know,
they get as hot as they do, they break them and then the
sidewall just can't handle it because thesidewall is just so thin. I mean
(37:29):
it's it's okay, so okay,so go ahead. I was just gonna
say, it's just it's the waythey're the way they're designing these tires,
nowaday, I mean I gotta tirethis real, go ahead, real cheap.
Yeah, okay. The cost isn'tcheaper. The cost is more expensive
(37:49):
than it's ever been, right,But yeah, I think they're trying to
cut costs and you know, makemore money and put less rubber on the
on the ground. So and andon that boat that boats thirty seven,
not thirty four. I've seen itup at McCluskey game Deerfield Township. It's
thirty four, okay, Yeah,I couldn't remember seven thirty seven okay,
but I mean thirty seven. Andit's a small car. And can you
(38:13):
imagine we're replace it thirty thousand dollarsfor the battery in that thing. Clint
would never even purchase it. Ijust looked at it. Have a good
day, all right, take care, all right, bye bye, So
thirty seven thousand. I stayed corrected. And again this was probably back in
maybe this was about three years ago. But again, Chevy's not making the
boat anymore, so all right, let's go back to the phones. We've
(38:34):
got Karen. Hey, Karen, welcome to car show. How can I
help Hi? Thank you so muchfor taking my call. Are you calling
from? It says here you callfrom Louisville. Huh well yeah, outside
of Louisville. Yeah, all right, I was just down there two weeks
ago. I love I love itdown there so nice. It is nice.
It is nice. I agree, but I love since Mattie, are
you too? That's nice? Also? Yeah, Well, how can I
(38:57):
help you? Well? Well, actually, it just probably a silly question.
We have a two thousand and fivefour Runner that has a lot of
miles on it, and we're goingto hand that down to the granddaughter,
and so we're looking to replace it, of course with another suv. And
um, we'd love toyotas. We'vealways had Toyotas. So we're looking at
another four Runner or a Sequoya. And also we've kind of thrown into the
(39:22):
mix Selexus GX. All I wantedto know was do you have an opinion
about those three vehicles? I mean, I know ones of these six,
the others are or vage cylinder.I know all that, But do you
have an opinion. Maintenance, Yeah, absolutely great questions. So, um,
well, first and foremost, thosethree vehicles, you couldn't pick a
(39:45):
better lineup. Okay, all threeof them, All three of them are
home run you. I don't thinkthat you can really go wrong with any
of them. Now, I reallydo like Lexus because again it's you know,
it's made by Toyota, right,Lexus is so there's so much nicer.
They ride better, it's a betterit's a it's a much better vehicle.
(40:05):
It's a better ride. Um.But with that said, and of
course the cost is a little bitmore, but um, and they they're
the the repair is gonna be more. But these cars, either one of
those of all three of them aregoing to be low maintenance. And but
again the Lexus is going to bethe best. But again it's going to
be the most to repair. ButI don't have a problem with that.
(40:29):
Um My mother owns a Sequoia,my dad owns a Tundra, and the
fore runners are great as well.I think you hit a home run with
any of them. Um, Okay, you know, okay, I'd get
the Lexus. Okay, I'd splurgea little bit, get the Lexus.
Okay, do you have an ideawhat smileage to stay around? They use?
(40:50):
Not a new anything I would.I wouldn't go anything over one hundred
thousand, anything under one hundred thousandor less. I think you're perfectly fine.
All right, she's gone. Allright, great question. Thank you
so much for calling. Everybody enjoyedthe weekend. Really do appreciate it.
I'll be back next Saturday to answerall of your car questions if you're listening
(41:14):
to Car Show on fifty five kr c D talk station
