Shooting at Instruction since nineteen eighty nine, and by taking Vegas dot com or
twenty years helping sports investors make better, more informed decisions. Now Here's Dougpike.
Hi show starts right now. Saturdaymorning edition of The Doug Pike Show.

(00:52):
Thank you very much for listening.I am juggling fourteen things I don't
need to listen to that. Idon't want that. I'm gonna put the
Talk seven ninety this Tuesday. Aswe bought the heck is at Adam right
out the shoot here, I justwas bragging on you to you about what
a great job you've done setting upthe studio this morning. What was that?
Did I just come out of nowhere? Yeah, it's a little early.

(01:15):
Lean your elbow onto a button orsomething. Yeah, basically I'm cooping
on your toith. Yeah, youdid. That's good now, thank you.
I appreciate it all. Right, off we go, Holy can what
is going on with my laptop?I normally have quite a few things on
my laptop, but there's a bunchof stuff here that's not supposed to be
here, and I, honestly goodness, have no idea why it is here

(01:38):
or why it is configured the wayit is. This is um quite unusual,
but I'll figure it out. Iwant to talk about a lot of
things today. We're gonna get througha lot of different topics. By the
way, I don't know about you, but all that lightning we had Friday
morning just really it did a numberon me. Man. It woke me

(02:00):
up about oh, I don't know, I want to say about four maybe
four fifteen somewhere and there. AndI really can't even remember when I fell
back to sleep. It was.It was late, though I know I
was up still at about five fifteenor five thirty. It was a solid
hour at least, but at leastit didn't do any damage and at least

(02:23):
the power didn't go out at myhouse. I think the last I heard
yesterday as I was coming into work. Even I believe after everything had kind
of cleared through here was that therewere maybe six thousand, sixty five hundred
people without power. And I don'tknow there's one family without power any time

(02:46):
a year in Houston for more thanabout an hour, that becomes an issue,
and I hate to see it.But at least it wasn't one of
those half the city out of powerof things. When I moved into my
house in Sugarland thirty gosh, rightat about thirty years ago, we for
some reason the way everything was going, and it took a long time for

(03:07):
anybody to figure it out. Butif the wind blew more than just a
breeze, or if three rain dropsfell in any given minute, we lost
power. We lost power down itwent. It was great when we had
it, but it was almost ajoke in the neighborhood and on my street.

(03:30):
And the cruel part of the jokewas that the people across the street
from me, just directly across thestreet, I could have run an extension
cord across the street from their houseto my house and had power, but
that side always stayed on Our side, always went off, and ultimately somebody
who got sick and tired of thecity, and I guess it was centerpoint

(03:54):
not doing anything about it. Backthen, went walking all through the neighborhood
and found a place where a tree'slimbs were hitting the power line, way
back at the back of the neighborhood, where the utilities came out of the
ground and then ran above ground backtoward the main lines. They came out

(04:18):
and fixed that, and ever sincethen it's only been It takes a whole
transformer blowing out now to knock thepower out around us. There's nothing that
can be knocked out by wind, thank goodness. And I don't care what
they did with that particular tree.I'm not here trying to save the planet.
I just want to electricity in myhouse, and I don't think that's

(04:38):
too much to ask. I'll goplant a tree somewhere else if it'll make
somebody feel better. But yeah,no, no, I do not want
to. I do not want tosave a limb at the cost of losing
the contents of my refrigerator. That'sjust who I am. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Emailme Dugpike at iHeartMedia dot com. Too

(05:00):
much on that, too much onthat atom or no, not enough,
just right? Yeah, just digin a little deeper, you think,
just that? Just wow them, wouldn't it that get everybody all fired up?
Oh well, let me check myemail real quick, and then I
want to get to a couple ofthings. Why is it not up at
the top where it belongs? Comeon this? Um? Just moving,

(05:23):
just moving the laptop from my studioor from my desk to my studio sometimes
makes it do weird things. Andlike I said, my home screen right
now has all of my icons stackedonto the left side of the page.
And there are probably it looks liketwenty pieces of audio out here or not

(05:46):
that many, maybe a dozen thatI don't I don't know why they're even
there. I have no earthly idea. None of this is really relevant to
us, though, So we'll plodon, as they say, still getting
those springtime temperature fluctuations, which arenice. They're when they're on the good
side. I love that I have. I went and enjoyed myself at the

(06:10):
golf course yesterday afternoon for I gotan hour and a half. Maybe he
didn't do much. I just Ikind of worked on stuff because I hadn't
hit balls all week. I workedon my game at the range part,
and then just swung back by thecar, picked up the fishing rods,
and went out and wore out insome more baths. Caught the biggest catfish
I've caught on a spinner bait bythe way in a long time. And

(06:33):
it wasn't huger, and it hasmaybe four or five pounds. But when
you're flipping spinner baits up and downthe bank to bass and a four or
five pound catfish, it's that that'spretty notable. I still I think I
don't know that I'm losing my touch, because when I'm focused, I can
still react to probably ninety eight percentof the strikes I get in time to

(06:55):
hook the fish. But I'm justwhen I'm out there, I'm just kind
of daydreaming, and I'm talking topeople as they come by and stop and
ask if I've caught anything. It'samazing how many people just really do.
They're they're curious at least, Heyman, you caught anything. I'll just
say, yeah, I've caught afew, That's all I usually say.

(07:15):
And well, then the real fishermensay, were there any big ones in
here? Yeah, there's some afew big ones in here. You catch
a lot of fishing. They'll startquizzing me as if they were ever going
to come back out and do it. I guess they're just you're interested,
like I am. I can't standwhy couldn't just walk by somebody fishing and
not stop them, to stop andask them a couple of questions? And

(07:39):
my son and my son's first whatwas it called, I can't remember what
it was called? Some dance hewent to a It wasn't a winter things.
Always homecoming, that's what it was. His first homecoming experience. All
the boys, all the girls linedup and their fancy fine clothes, getting
pictures taken over by It's insure.A place in sugar Land was a pretty

(08:03):
significant lake, and I need togo over there and try it out.
Actually, because this one guy comeswalking down the pathway along the water front
there and he's got two rods withhim, and he's got his dog,
and he's got a little backpack fullof tackle. And there was no way
I was letting that guy get past. I put my camera bag down,
I put my camera down, andI walked over and just walked with him

(08:26):
for about I don't know thirty fortyyards quizzing him on what's in there,
where he catches him, how hecatches him, And I feel like if
I go back over there now,I could probably knock out two or three.
It'd be fun. I don't carewhere I fish, just as long
as I get to fish. That'skind of what I work with. And
I've got a trip that's kind ofin the works, but I haven't heard
back from the person I absolutely positivelyhave to hear back from before I pull

(08:50):
the trigger on that one, andso help me. If that trip doesn't
go down, I think I'm stillgoing to leave town and go fishing somewhere
out a hunch. I'm gonna probablydrive south. I texted Cliff web the
other day just to ask when wouldbe the time to come down there to
be I don't necessarily want to bethe first person to catch a fish out

(09:11):
of the surf down there this year, but I wouldn't mind being next.
I wouldn't mind being a close second. There's no sense waiting until it's really
really going good, because that meansthat a whole lot of people have already
had some really good days down there, and the words just finally gotten out,
whether there's been Actually, today isgoing to be just a first Academy,

(09:35):
gorgeous, drop down, beautiful day. And that's the balance in nature
as opposed to yesterday morning, whenit stunk so bad and made so much
noise and I couldn't go back tosleep, drove me nuts. I do
think we've seen the last of theforties temperature wise. I don't think we're
going to see any of that anymore. But I also don't think we're gonna
be able to get away from thenineties for much more. I think that's

(10:00):
right around the corner, and thenwe just have to shift into gear.
Man. I was out hitting balls. I think it was I don't remember
what the hottest day was last week, but I was out hitting balls this
past well two weeks ago. NowI didn't Yesterday was the first time I've
hit balls all week long. Itdrives me crazy. So I go back
out there. I'm out there aweek past and it was hot. It

(10:22):
really was. It was the firstreally warm. It was high eighties,
might have scratched ninety in the parkinglot, asphalt parking lot. But that
was the first time this year thatI've really kind of gotten beat up a
little by the heat. I feltlike it was taking me down, taking
me down, but it didn't.All right, same song, only every

(10:43):
year it's just the same weather pattern. We get this faux spring, faux
summer period where for about ten daysto well, no more than that,
probably two weeks to three and ahalf four weeks, the weather doesn't seem
to know which way it wants toturn. And that's an issue. If
you'll put him on hold, I'llpush the button and we'll get going.

(11:03):
I'll get him before the break.Let's go, do that or not?
Yes, no, thumbs up,thumbs down? Okay, oh okay,
never mind. Oh he's on thephone. They're chatting in there. What
I want to do is go aheadand go to this first break on time.
I rarely do that, and Ithink it pleases the people who pay

(11:24):
my salary, so I'll do that. American Shooting Centers is a great place,
speaking of people who are paying salaries. Man, this guy has been
a sponsor of me for several yearsnow at a riggy and what a great
guy he is. He's the manwho bought American Shooting Centers a while back
when it came up for sale.It was run by the county for a
long time, and now he's turnedit into not only the largest non military

(11:50):
shooting facility in the state, butone of the most exciting, one of
the most fun, one of thesafest places anywhere that you could go shoot
your range officers all over the place, no matter where you are on that
property, somebody's got eyes on youand everybody else around you making sure it
stays safe. That's their primary goalout there. Once that's taken care of,

(12:13):
now it's time for the fun. You've got pistol and rifle ranges from
five yards, which is that's homedefense mode right there, all the way
out to six hundred yards. Thereare three sporting plays courses I think it's
eight or ten, I want tosay, trap and skeet fields. They
have got five stands setups in severalplaces around the facility, and they have

(12:37):
a wing shooting area for beginners, which is really nice too if you're trying
to get somebody kind of loosened upand getting comfortable with shooting moving targets.
Great place to go shoot. Theyhave instruction by the way, and all
the shooting disciplines. Anything you wantto do better as a shooter. There's
somebody there that can help you withthat. Great place to start, great

(13:01):
place to if you're a hunter, you need to be out there burning powder
all year round to maintain whatever edgeyou had. If you weren't a good
shot last year, and you don'tpractice or take any lessons between now and
next season, you're not gonna beany better. And I promise you,
as someone who's done all right witha shotgun and with a rifle over the

(13:22):
years, being a better shot isway more fun, way more fun.

(14:35):

pull out. I think they saidsomething about it. That's yeah, he's
day so torn up, Dave.Well, that's why I'm not in the
house field right now, because youknow, back in ninety seven they they
had a fuse se five, sixand seven in my neck. Yeah they
did good. Yeah, that witha piece of titanium metal and it kind

(14:58):
of looks like a milk bone.Yeah. Next butterfly and then they put
six crews and they put six moreto flare out cow oh yeah. And
you know it's it's a it's ait's a very But I was totally paralyzed
on my left hand side and myleft arm. Wow. And when that
doc, Yeah, when the doctorwoke me up, it was all good.

(15:18):
So I'm wondering if yeah, Idon't know if they're working with me
right now. That's why they've beentaking a lot of X ray. I
mean, I'm not in a hospitalor nothing. That's good. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, you know,I mean I've been doing the old football
regiments, you know, heat andcold and you know, and rest and
keeping my arm. But I can'tdo not just let your arm your shoulder

(15:41):
freeze up. Yeah. Yeah,so you're having a basic where you tell
me is you have to lay offyour dirt bike ride in the scott ivan.
I'll never do that again. Yeah, but I tell you what.
Hey, if y'all tie me upin a strait jacket and put me in
the back of a boat, thatway my shoulder ain't rocking around and I'll
just go Look like the old jokeabout about the guy who you know went

(16:04):
into the doctor all messed up andthe doctor said, well, yeah,
i'll do surgery and it'll be better. He goes, great, Can I
go dirt bike riding after that? And he goes sure. He goes,
oh, that's awesome because I've neverbeen before. Oh hey, I'll tell
you what though, you know, like I was telling a bride there,
I said, man, you gottayou know what Laughter is the best matter

(16:25):
sine It is, you know,it really is. You know what I
mean money, It takes your mindoff something and you make somebody else smile.
You know it. Really, itreally is a good. Yeah.
Every time I feel every time Ifeel down, I just go look in
the mirror. I said, Oh, that's hilarious. Thanks father time,
that's awesome. Got you do greatwork. Uh hey, I'll tell you

(16:51):
what though. Uh God bless God. Key with you, God blessing.
Yeah yeah, well hey, I'lljust go a ramp up. This ain't
the first time, you know, like when I have my pacemaking putty and
and all that. Yeah, man, you know, and so out of
fifty fourty years, I got togo thirty times. And I think I'm
gonna streaming live on Allensville fiddle foldA. Boy, yeah, you could
do that. I hate for youto miss that, but you can do

(17:14):
that. You can't stream it.As long as you can punch a few
buttons, you can listen to livestuff streaming. That's get one of the
young I get one of the Joneskids around here to figure out to push
all the button. Boy, yourproducer is not doing bad. He might
have hit that button, but thatbutter on, Well enough, butter I
tell the guys around here when theystart with me, if when they make

(17:37):
a mistake like that, if that'sthe worst thing you do today, you're
in. You're gonna be able tokeep your job a long time. Around
here. A hearing me, you'rehearing me? Small, Yeah, I'm
glad, I'm glad. Day,I'm okay, I'm okay everybody. I
just want to kind of apologize toeverybody that I couldn't make it. So
no, well, let me askyou this now. Is this something that
they're gonna be able to fix overa short period of time or are you

(18:00):
gonna have to do rehab or whatI'm kind of worried about. That's what
No, no, sir, thatthat's what they're that's what they're working on.
They're trying to figure out what todo. Okay, yeah, what
to do? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, no, no, no,
I ain't croaking over yet. It'snot okay, you know, all right,
okay, all right, buddy, going no where yet, Okay,

(18:21):
all right, thanks man, audios. Yeah, what a good dude.
I hate that anybody is down likethat and then just not at one hundred
percent. Whatever one hundred is.My one hundred percent today isn't near what
it was, say, five ten, twenty thirty years ago, forty years
ago, that was some that waspeak physical conditioning back in there. But

(18:45):
what it is is is my newnormal, and it doesn't it doesn't prevent
me from doing many things. Ican assure you of that. I can
assure you of that seven one threetwo one two five to seven nine to
email me Dougpike at iHeartMedia dot com. I wanted to talk today, and

(19:08):
I'm gonna I'm gonna go back tothis other thing because I want to kind
of plant this seed early and seeif I can get some see if I
can get some reaction. Let memake a little note here. Okay,
we'll go back to that stuff abouttournament fishing. Okay. I've heard a
lot about tournament fishing lay Lee fromboth saltwater and freshwater friends, and I

(19:32):
want to ask the question overall onthe at the highest, broadest, biggest,
back out all the way to theedge of the planet and take another
look. Do you think it's goodor not? Whether it's better or is
it better or worse for recreational fishing, Not for Galveston Bay, not for

(19:56):
sam Rayburn, not for any spescific body of water, any specific group
of people, But is it betterfor fishing? On the On the pro
side, tournaments most they they injecta ton of money into local economies.
They bring a lot of attention tofishing with social media posts, and depending

(20:22):
on the size of the market, they go into maybe even some television coverage.
There's a lot to be said forthe pr value of a fishing tournament,
a lot of people investing in boats. There's a lot of financial reasons
to run tournaments and throw tournaments. There's revenue to be gained from all those

(20:44):
hotel rooms. People buying more equipment. You're not You're never going to buy
more rising reels than if you getinto tournament fishing, because you're gonna think
you need a whole new rod andreel for every lure in your box,
and that you'll never have time totie another knot in your life. Some
of those guys load up like that, especially for bass tournaments. The red
fish guys and trout guys aren't quiteas whackadoodle on that, but man,

(21:10):
a bass fisherman's tournament boat might havea dozen or more rigged rods on the
deck. It's a miracle they can'tthey don't fall out of the boat tripping
over rods and reels. Sometimes there'smore people watching over the fisheries when there
are tournaments going on, too, because they've got skin in a game.
You think about that. If you'rea tournament fisherman, the last thing you

(21:32):
want is for any fish to disappearfrom the bay. You're gonna be fishing.
The last thing you want. Youneed all the fish out there you
can get, and big ones too. As a fisherman, I really do
care about fisheries. Most people whodon't fish don't care, not really,
because the health of the fishery overalldoes not impact them in one way or

(21:59):
another. They they don't need fishing. They don't care about fish or fishing,
and that's a scary thing. Thepeople who scare me a lot in
overall wildlife fisheries, land, sea, air, I don't care. The
people who just care me are theones who say, just let stop hunting

(22:22):
and fishing and letting nature take itscourse. And man, I'm going off
on a tangent right here, butI'm gonna do it up to the break.
Probably. Here's what happens when naturetakes its course when we don't get
involved, or actually when we quitbeing involved. And that's a better way
to put it too, because everythingthat goes on around there's a big construction

(22:42):
project right next door to us herein this building and what we're watching happen
is before they can even build thebuilding, they are having to install this
huge drainage system that will ultimately pourall the water that lands on what used

(23:03):
to be ground but will now beconcrete. All that rainwater is being diverted
by culverts that are at least eightand maybe nine or ten feet tall.
I drove by just yesterday as amatter of fact, again on the way
out of work, and the firstthing that the builder of this building had

(23:23):
to do is go in there anddig giant trenches, and then they're going
to fill those trenches with these enormousconduits. But I'm seriously at least eight
feet tall, and they and theygo all the way around and then ultimately

(23:45):
go out on the north side ofthat property, and I'm absolutely certain that
all of that's ultimately going into theBuffalo Bio. There are little tops,
you can see the tops on themwhere what are going to be manhole covers
at what's going to be ground level. But it's just fascinating to watch all

(24:08):
that have to be done because theyknow darn well they've just taken away or
they are taking away natural drainage andmitigation A lot of places. If you
build farther out from the city you'rein, most people are going to have
to whatever they're building, they're gonnahave to mitigate what they're doing out there

(24:30):
by building a giant retention pond. That's why all these subdivisions wigh out on
the edges of town have beautiful lakes. It's not because they wanted to enhance
the value of the properties, althoughthat does. Property on any water is
better than property adjacent to dirt. But the reason all those lakes are there

(24:51):
is because they had to balance outnature because all those slabs they put up,
all those streets they put up,didn't give the water anywhere to go
but into someplace that already had water. So that's another pet peeve of mine.
But I would like to hear youropinions on tournament fishing, and I'll

(25:11):
get back to it. The tournamentfishermen, by the way, are they're
high level people, and as fishermenI'm talking about, and they're high level,
highly skilled, highly effective fishermen, and they do incredibly well at what
they do. And so maybe there'smaybe we talk a little bit about how

(25:34):
many fish they take to that's moreof a saltwater thing than a freshwater thing.
I'll get into it when we getback. Feel free to jump in
and let me think. Let meknow what you think about tournament fishing overall,
long term, long haul. Isit good or bad for the fishery
generally? Not specific spots or techniquesor any of that stuff, just fishing

(25:57):
tournaments or no fishing tournam What makesit better for fishing and the fisheries overall?
All right? What would make mefeel better today is if I was
going to get to play some golf. But I don't. I already know
that. I see that coming.Maybe late this afternoon. I could probably
get out. But you'd still getout any time this morning, probably even

(26:18):
on a beautiful Saturday morning at blackHorse Golf Club. Because black Horse has
two courses, and with that manytea times available, even if they're full,
there's a pretty good chance that athreesome is gonna go out. There's
a lot of foursomes that get bookedearly middle of the week. All four

(26:38):
guys make plan, we're gonna playgolf Saturday morning, ten o'clock. All
right, we're all in, let'sgo, and invariably somebody's got something that
comes up, and they end upbeing a threesome going out and complaining about
all the foursomes in front of them. If you go out there by yourself,
they'll put you in with a threesome. If there's two of you,
they'll find two other guys who hadnobody else to play with, and they'll

(27:00):
match you guys up. I dothat as often as I can. Really,
it's a lot of fun just togo to a golf course and say,
hey, put me out with anybody. I get asked that what I
asked to go to play golf courses? Who do you want to play with?
I don't care. I don't wantto play with another golfer, and
we'll work it out. We'll makeit around, we'll have fun, and
I always do it. Black Horse, that's for sure. Two great courses,

(27:23):
a great teaching staff at the farend of the range. If you
can squit and see real far, every now and then you might see a
tour player down there. I've seenmore than my share down there and gone
down and hung out A little bityears ago. There was a steady run
of big, big players coming throughthere, and still are. Play a
lot of tournaments at black Horse, not many people are gonna put on a

(27:45):
better event. Whether it's you anda friend who want to just pop out
on a Saturday morning, or yougot two hundred people to entertain and raise
money for a big charity, blackHorse can accommodate you and do it in
style. Black Horse Golf Club dotcom is a web site there on Fri

(28:11):
sports seven ninety dot com. Nowmore, Doug Fike, what's someone whisky
into water sugar in your team? What's all this trecent? Questions? They're
asking him? I was singing thatin this version Tom Jones, Yeah,

(28:37):
I thought so. I recognized thevoice, but I just couldn't place it
at that point. That seemed alittle out of his strong suit for singing.
I don't know, I can't see. Mama told me not to come
by Tom Jones. They just don'tgo together. I don't know who's sang
it originally. Um, look itup. It's a much better version than

(29:00):
that it was. Oh God,I'm just drawing a blank. Maybe Rick
can help us. Hold on,let me punch us up, Rick Bis,
what's up man? Tom Jones?Tom Jones? Yes, but who
sang the originally? He's covering thatsong? It's um, I don't like
three Night maybe or somebody like, yeah it is three Dog Night. I've

(29:23):
seen Tom Jones live three times, and I've seen Elds four times, and
he puts on a better show thanWow, Holy cow. Now that's my
opinion. That's um score I forget. I talked to Clayton last night.
He said, to tell you howdyfrom Monton. Ah, good for him.
What's he doing up there right now? Well, he's yeh when he

(29:48):
got seven inches of snow Wednesday, but he's he's on the poor kid,
Doug. I know you're gonna feelsorry for him on this. I'm sure
he's on a forty two day turkeyhunting the round up in Montown. Yeah,
boo hoo, yeah, man?How often do how many? How
many days does those guys hunt upthere? Like, say, if I

(30:11):
called and said, okay, I'mgonna book a hunt and Clayton's up there
doing forty two days of it,how many days is their normal guided hunt
couple? Normally about three or four, which they can do too, but
he said they're gonna limon that onthe first day no matter what because they
can't stand it. Oh wow, just so many birds. And he said,
what it is if both of theseguys are the Grand Slam North American

(30:34):
Turkey guys. Yeah okay, andthey're going after that Merriam Turkey. Yeah
wow, okay, I forgot aboutthat, he said. Where he's af
there like rats, he said, first day, that's cool. I'm gonna
talk fishing for a second. Goright ahead, all right. I got
a good friend of man mos, same business, and we both really loved

(31:00):
to fifty responds. But he's likeme, I want to fish legs that
are full of lily pads. Yeah, I know what I'm using, sure,
and which is just for those listings. It's almost exclusively crawl, lizard

(31:21):
and wormed. And you gotta youknow, I can do it that and
getting hung up. Not that Idon't sometimes, but it's a funnest thing.
And you you you you pump ita leadle, you let a girl
to buyttom just really then real slow. When you get a strike, you

(31:41):
get that the hook without a swallowingeverything. You get your rod t it
way high and you get that fishto the top of that water as fast
as you can, yes, sir, water skiing back, man's fast.
You can turn a handle. ButI want to tell you what this random
mind showed up with. Okay,he had a craw lizard and U he

(32:07):
had a very small lead head torpedoon the front of that hood. Yeah
okay. And then I don't knowwhere he found it, but he found
a I'm gonna call it a straw, but I mean, miss straw could
not be more than a sixteenth indiameter, like almost, Yeah, it's

(32:30):
not. It's not rigid, gotsome flex to it, okay. And
then he puts that on the linethrough it. You have to thread it
through it, right, and heputs about the six or eight inches of
it. Now, it takes alittle of your your worm action out,
sure, but we don't do awhole lot of action down there in the

(32:52):
mode all that stuff, right,And so what happens he insisted up it
on, man, I like it. What happens is he's also got a
beat in front of that too.And it's a sliding meat. And when

(33:14):
you get a strike or when you'rejust you know, fishing, it tends
to it's kind of bounce over littlethings that normally you might get tongue up
in. Yeah, and then whenyou catch a fish, who's if you're
if you're not doing it right,he's gonna get wrapped around on lily patter

(33:35):
take. Yeah that's a good point. Well this kind of stops that from
happening. Yeah. Yeah, that'sa good, very good point. Yeah.
Yeah. We were trying to hangit up. The only time I
hung it up as one of myworm I needed a new worm. My
worm would come up and my hookwas better. But it's pretty cool.

(33:57):
I've never seen or heard of thatnow. I hadn't neither, but I
like the idea. I really do, boy, and I got a place
I can test it. Yeah.Man, that's well, thank you man,
it's all I got. Man.All right, well that'll take us
to a break then, thank youbuddy, Safe travels audios. All right,

(34:17):

(36:07):
We are Sports Talk seven ninety. The conversation continues, This is the Doug
Pike Show. She's a same I'mdrinking dubb. I I drowned my two.

(36:34):
My hearties breaking like the tiny bubble. She's I can't see I'm drinking
up seven eight on Sports Talk sevenninety to Doug Pike Show, thank you
for listening. I want to goback to where I was when when Ritten

(36:58):
gave us a call and talking aboutMiriam turkeys. That was kind of cool.
But I want to go back tothis whole notion that a lot of
people have in this country. Increasingnumbers of city folk who have no idea
how nature works, have no ideawhat wildlife truly means when it's called wildlife.

(37:22):
There's a reason they say it's wild. It's synonymous with unpredictable. And
I don't care how many Disney moviesyou watch. Grizzly Bears and all these
different animals out there are going todo what they need to do to survive.
They don't have TV. Nobody's tellingthem what to do. They're doing

(37:43):
what their genetics and their instincts tellthem what to do. A mountain lion
a doe are never going to bebest friends and talk as they walk through
the woods together. It's just nothappening. And so all of these people,
though, are growing up with thisnotion that all the animals would be

(38:05):
just fine if we just get outof their way and leave them alone.
Well, we stopped doing that theminute we built our first house. Go
back, I don't care how faryou go back the earliest parts of civilization,
when we started putting up houses, and then villages, and then streets
and towns and aqueducts and all thesedifferent things that impact nature. And we're

(38:35):
working from the center out and takingan increasing amount of space, making our
footprint all the larger every day, just like the construction going on right outside
the window. Here, and ifwe don't stay involved, if we don't
aggressively and carefully manage wildlife, wildlifedoesn't stand a chance. We are so

(39:05):
influential over nature already that we can'tafford to just back off and let nature
take its course. There won't beany animals left at that point, because
it ultimately, either disease or starvation. There's going to be this boom,
this big population boom over the shortterm if we were to stop doing anything.

(39:28):
But as the food supply continued tobe stripped because we kept building things
and moving things and changing things. As that food supply goes down, then
the surviving animals of the herd orthe school or whatever can't find enough to
eat. They weaken and become moresusceptible to disease, and that just goes

(39:52):
on and on and on from thereuntil ultimately, either the food source completely
runs out first or disease takes outa big part of the herd. But
one way or the other, whitetaileddeers, we knew it as we know
it now gone waterfowl, gone fish, gone, just a big empty bucket,

(40:13):
a big empty bucket. We oweit to the animals. We owe
it to all of them, tomanage them in such a way that they
are a renewable resource, which isexactly what they are. They're renewable resource.
It's very valuable to us, notjust as food, but also for

(40:34):
recreation for mental health. Nothing keepsme calmer than fishing. Nothing helps me
relax and get my mind off allthe crazy stuff that goes on during the
day around here better than fishing,or golf, or just some sort of
outdoor recreation a dove hunt in September. Those kinds of things really work out
well for most people, and theyneed that experience. Depends heavily on our

(41:02):
ability to manage wildlife. You can'tleave nature alone. Let me get back
to tournament fishing. So at thehighest levels of tournament fishing, I'm not
talking about the afternoon lake conro everybodythrow twenty bucks in a jelly jar tournament.
I'm talking about the big ones wherepeople are coming to your lake or

(41:27):
your bay from all over the countryto fish for a whole lot of money
and a lot of prestige and alot of accolades and a lot of long
term sponsorship deals. There's so muchat stake in these tournaments. These guys
are sharpshooters too. They're gonna catchmore big fish than the average person could
ever dream. That's what they dofor a living. Anything you do for

(41:52):
a living, if you still havea truck to drive, a boat to
run, and a house to takeit home to, than you're doing pretty
well freshwater bass fishing anyway, Withbass fishing, and to the credit of
bass fishermen, professional bass fishermen andmost amateurs, actually they do release most

(42:15):
of their fish. A live, live release was a big game changer in
freshwater fishing because the early tournaments werejust like most of the bay tournaments still
are. You just bring a sackof dead fish to the dock and wagh
them and see what happens. Mosttournaments have limits now at least, but
in the earliest stages of professional fishingeven it was just see how many you

(42:35):
can catch before three o'clock and thenhaul them all in here and lay them
out on the table, see whatthey weigh. Most inshore saltwater tournaments are
still catching kill, and that's problematicon a couple of levels. Technology the
technology we have now, it justmakes it so much easier to promote and

(43:00):
release you've got a phone. Everybodyon the boat's gonna have a phone.
Everybody every phone on that boat's gonnahave a camera on it. And if
the tournament directors would buy two hundredofficial tournament yard sticks and have their or
measuring sticks fish measuring sticks with aninety degree turn at the end where you

(43:22):
snug the nose up in there andthen you go back to the end and
there that's how long the fish is. If we had those official sticks,
and then then you could release thefish immediately. Some tournaments are doing that
actually, and it works out reallywell. The measuring stick doesn't lie and
the fish don't lie, and youcan well, there's always going to be

(43:45):
people try to cheat. Those walleyeguys or are the prime examples of that.
But I'm focused on whether or nottournaments in general are good for the
fisheries. I think in the end, I guess we have to just add
our ask our so what adds upto more fish, because that's what matters.
And the real ultimate measuring stick foranything is going to be how many

(44:13):
fish are in the water, becausewithout the fish, then there are no
tournaments. Nobody's going If you werecatching three fish a trip and then you
started catching two, then you werestarting to catch one, then none,
six or eight times in a row. Would you keep fishing or would you
find something else to do? Mostpeople would quit. We spend the time
and money it takes to do thatforever and just not get anything in return.

(44:37):
Let me go talk to Brandon beforewe get out of here. What's
up, Brandon? Any? Goodmorning? How are y'all doing this morning?
On this time? Christ? Christamorning? What a beautiful morning?
Holy cow? What a difference fromyesterday? Huh? Well exactly. I
got to call him and knock thehumidity out because we know we're facing that
for Oh God, I got abouttwo minutes. You want to let's go
what you got? Yes or no? That's fine. I definitely five or

(45:00):
our creator gave us, and itsays it in Genesis one twenty six.
He gave man dominion over everything,ye, which is all the natural resources,
our natural wild life, everything. And I know that may touch some
people wrong, but it's that isthe truth. And if we keep going
the way we're going, you're right, we're not going to see some things.
Well. The thing the way tolook at this is dominion over and

(45:22):
responsibility for where exactly dominion doesn't come. It's not free. There's a there's
a responsibility we have to these animalsto make sure that there are that they're
always going to be there. Andif we keep building and we keep doing
all this, we have to thenmanage the wildlife to remain somehow healthy overall.

(45:47):
And sometime. Actually, yes, most biologists they'll tell you recreational hunting
is the best management tool they havefor for what for wildlife on the land.
That's it. You've got to takesome out or you risked the whole
herd. Rightly, Yeah, you'reyou're right, that's what it says.
I'm glad you. It's a bigit's a huge it's a huge financial I

(46:13):
think we've talked about this once beforeand you can bring it up again.
Just just the revenue off of wildlife, whether that'd be bird watching, going
to a park, but doing whatever. I mean, it's huge, it
really, Yeah, you're exactly right. It's good for mental health. Like
you said, man, people liketo go see you know, nothing calms
me more than being outside and it'sfar away from cars and traffic. The

(46:37):
most at piece I ever felt, probably it was kind of eerie. But
when I got dropped, I wasdoing a photo shoot, uh for a
snowboarding magazine or something. Anyway, they let me out about six or seven
hundred feet above the tree line onthe side of a mountain, out of
a helicopter and there was nothing, nothing but snow for probably I don't know

(46:59):
mile and miles in all directions, and that helicopter dropped me off to go
back and pick up the guys whowere going to come down on the other
side. And when he went overthat ridge and I couldn't hear him anymore,
I was never more alone in myentire life. And I felt very
calm, really I did. Ididn't feel scared. It is nothing.
I just felt very calm in thatplace and I loved it. Man,

(47:21):
it was cool. Thanks, hey, thanks for the call, Brandon.
That's really a good one. Youmake very good points. You bet by
Bay all right, took care ofthat. Thank you for that. We
are gonna go an entire hour. And when you next time you see Ryan

since nineteen eighty nine, and bytaking Vegas dot com or twenty years helping
sports investors make better, more informeddecisions. Now here's Dougpike. Second,
the program starts right now. Thankyou all so very much for listening.
Hold on, I got a tearispieces paper off. I need to need

(49:34):
to call a guy after the show, and at the expense of one of
the pieces of paper I hadn't hereto work with, I made that note
and have put it over to theside. Oh, this is something I
found that might interest you, Adam. There are people on social media,
says here talking about the thing andthis is this is just a quick aside

(49:57):
from outdoors because I found this interestingand satisfying and just a just a quiet,
little personal way. People on socialmedia talking about the things that quote
we no longer have any patience forend quote, and some of them include
what Adam out of reading a newspaper, Well, that's that's a good point,

(50:20):
but yes it didn't make the list, uh the top three or four
family drama, overworking, overworking, that's that's a scary thing for your generation
because because the overworking definition of mostpeople not you. You show up here
at what five thirty six o'clock inthe morning on the weekends, that's pretty
good, But most people your agewould consider overworking to be defined as what

(50:49):
the boss wants me to do?But I just don't feel like doing.
People who litter, I think that'sgreat that that's we have. We don't
have patience for that. And finally, the one that makes me kind of
smile. It says anything that hasthe word influencer in it, I couldn't
agree more. I'm so tired ofthat word. It's just it's overdone,
it's overplayed. And these when youhave teenagers wanting to aspiring to be influencers

(51:17):
and they don't even really have anyidea what that means or how they're going
to get there. I can assureyou most of the very young people who
have gotten to that level have doneso on somebody else's back. They've either
been embarrassing people, which we allhave this twisted curiosity and fascination with or

(51:38):
something like that. And I don'tparticularly like it. And I don't care
about what a teenager thinks of aproduct because they've somebody sent it to them
for free in exchange for saying somethingnice about it. That's just that's all
messed up. You know. Ithink I'd like to be an influencer.
Yeah, wouldn't we all if wecould all, if we could, if

(51:59):
we could all make ten million dollarsa year, wouldn't we all want to
be social media influencers. But thefew who do that have mastered a craft.
They've mastered a craft that's very difficultfor anybody else to do, And
all of a sudden, when youlook at it that way, you can
kind of realize that, just likebecoming a major League baseball player or a

(52:23):
professional bass fisherman or a professional troutfisherman or whatever, it's not easy,
and it takes a lot of work, and it takes a lot of time,
and most people who even attempt allof that don't get it done.
They just don't. It's not aboy. All of a sudden, my

(52:45):
emails just lighting up. I gotto send this back to Rudy Hang.
I don't like the fact that thisthing asked me if I want to ignore
or change something that I typed, because my fingers are pretty reliable and it
doesn't need to be telling me allthat. What did Mojo send me?
Oh wow, there is a peacockloose in the neighborhood up there, up

(53:08):
there in Montgomery County where Mojo is. And I got tickled, I said,
and I pointed out correctly, theycan get pretty vocal when they're lonely,
to which the reply comes a neighborfrom twenty years ago, Raise them
down the road. I like theirhanks. Besides, they eat snakes.

(53:30):
That's a very good point. Soif you see a peacock, pardon me
in your yard, or a kinksnake for that matter, or an indigo
snake for that matter, leave themalone for having snakes. They're going to
do you some good. They're gonnado you some good. So I want
to go back to I want togo back to tournament fishing for a minute,

(53:52):
And I really genuinely want to hearsomebody else's opinion other than mine,
because while I do believe that theydraw attention to the fisheries, they draw
attention to the overall plight of wildlife. And even if it's just somebody casually

(54:12):
walking through a marina parking lot afterthey stopped to get a pint of shrimp
to go back to their beach houseand fish off the dock, and there's
a big giant tournament going around, maybe they'll stop and look and listen and
just get a little more enthusiastic aboutfishering fishing, because that makes them then

(54:34):
a little more likely to care whensomebody says, hey, did you hear
about that big plant they're thinking aboutbuilding on the bay over here, Or
did you hear about the big newdevelopment that's coming in. It's going to
take up about half a mile ofbayfront with bulkhead. All of that stuff
matters to the fisheries. And ifnobody's caring about the fishery, then they're

(55:00):
really not going to care about developmentof the places where those fish live.
And at that point, what they'vealso said is they don't care about water.
Because you can jump up and downall you want about water quality this
and water quality that, but ifyou don't have fisheries, it's probably because

(55:20):
you don't have quality water. Clearlake was named that, not because it
looked all nasty and muddy, asit does so often now, but because
many many, many decades ago, there was a tremendous amount of sea grass
in that area and that filtered thatwater and kept it clear, hence the
name. Same with places all theway over in Florida. I got a

(55:45):
good friend, Martin Nichols, aguy who founded DA Lures, and he
and I have had more than oneor two talks recently about the disappearance of
their sea grasses over there. There'sa lot of things being blamed on it,
but the bottom line is they losttheir sea grass over miles miles of
shoreline up on both sides of theIntracoastal Waterway. And that's that's a frightening

(56:10):
thing to look up one day andsay, Wow, there used to be
a little bit of grass here.I wonder what happened to it, And
then look up at a year ortwo later, and wow, we haven't
seen any grass in five miles. It's all sand bottom, very different stuff
and very It all matters. AndI do think, like I said,
tournament, I'm gonna kind of endthe tournament thing here because nobody seems interested

(56:36):
but I do feel like that tournamentscan be beneficial to a region, to
overall fishing as as as an indicator, not an indicator, but as kind
of a champion for the resource. If the if the tournaments are done right,
if the tournaments release their fish,if the tournaments are also include a

(57:00):
conservation message and element. One ofthe things that bass fishing needs to clean
up, frankly, is the waythey handle their fish. You watch these
guys on Major League Fishing. Theyget a fish in the boat, they
grab it by the belly or overthe back and just squeeze it hard enough
to hold onto it because they geta penalty if the fish hits the deck,

(57:20):
they'll slap it up against their shirtand pin it with their other hand.
And everything they do like that, every bit of that breaks that mucous
layer off the outside of that fish, and that essentially is their skin.
That's what keeps them from getting bacteria. If they would clean up that part
of Major League Fishing, I'd bea bigger fan. But until they do,

(57:43):
I can't really get on board withthem. It's cool to see those
guys catching all those fish, butnot at the cost of the fish.
And I've seen fish caught. I'veactually caught fish that had handprints across their
back of bacterial, bacterial infection becausesomebody couldn't take the time to grab them
by the lower lip and very carefullytake the hooks out of their mouse just

(58:07):
pin them down. Might as wellhave bootprints on their backs. It's not
doing them any favors. And thatdoesn't go on as much. Actually,
I don't think in saltwater, Ireally don't. I think saltwater fishermen buy
and large, maybe a little bitmore careful with their fish, even than
the bass fishermen. That's not allbass fishermen, but the way they set

(58:29):
up major league bass fishing, that'sa problem. It's a problem for me
anyway. All Right, we gottatake a little break here. On the
way out, I will tell youall about Duck Camp, which is a
fantastic place to go if you arelooking for some fantastic outdoors clothing. They
have a storefront in Rice Village whichis a really truly convenient to just about

(58:50):
anybody in this listening area, Morningside. It's on Morningside, which is on
the east side of Rice Village. Not a big store, actually, it's
not some giant mega warehouse store. It's just a small store with almost as
much room in the back for extrainventory as in the showroom. But if
you go in there, you cansee it all. As soon as you

(59:12):
walk through the door, you say, Okay, yeah, I've seen the
entire space. But what I wantyou to do is ask someone, Ask
someone who works there to walk youaround and show you how this stuff is
built and how technical it is.Why on a particular pocket or closure of
some sort, why is there azipper and not a button, or a

(59:32):
magnet and not a zipper or whatever. And there will be a reason nothing
on that clothing is there just forgiggles. There'll be a reason it closes
and opens the way it does. And as an outdoors person, you will
immediately appreciate that. As someone whois stepping up a level and considering something

(59:55):
as high quality as Duck Camp, then you will you'll be made assured that
what you're getting is worth what you'repaying for it. They have hunting clothing,
they have fishing shirts, fishing clothes, shorts, they have waiters in
there. They've got jackets for whenit gets cold again. Don't worry about
the jackets right now. I don'teven know if they still have them out

(01:00:17):
right now, They've got some awesomebamboo fiber hoodies that are amazingly comfortable and
soft. They're perfect for days liketoday when it's a little cool in the
morning, but you know it's gonnawarm up. You put one of those
on and it keeps the wind offof you, keeps you warm on the
way out. And then as theday goes on and you just roll the
sleeves up a little bit or whatever, it's still gonna be comfortable even as

(01:00:40):
the day gets warmer. Today.Duckcamp dot com is a website there in
Austin based company. They open thestore here for a reason. They want
people to come in. They wantyou to touch and feel and see those
clothes firsthand. You can still getgood deals on the website. You can
still get all of that stuff onthe website, But do yourself a favor.
Go by the store. Tell themI sent you to Duckcamp dot com.

on a Saturday morning, one ofthe best, beautifulest, most prettiest to
make all kinds of grammatical mistakes morningswe've had in some time around here.
That's the payback for enduring all thatlightning yesterday morning. That was just such
a such a show that Nature puton. Holy count I woke up,

(01:02:08):
as I said at the start ofthe program, I wake up and it's
just cracking, popping, just makingall kinds of noise and flashes through the
house. And I turned on myiPad and take a look down at that
thing. I go to my weatherradar and it's just it's just we're right

(01:02:30):
where I live, was right atthe epicenter of all the lightning strikes going
on at the time. It waspretty um quite the show, as they
say. I got an email fromRudy. Rudy is taking a look at
them. What is that Dawn DessertClassic over in New Orleans right now?

(01:02:50):
And Rudy just said, hey man, they keep this up, they're gonna
get to thirty under. And Ireminded him that they are playing in pairs.
This is a a tag team tournament. If you will they play different
formats through the weekend, but it'stwo guys against all the other teams of
two guys, and already through tworounds, Will Clark and Bo Hostler all

(01:03:16):
at sixteen under par, and thenit goes on from there. I'm gonna
I'm not gonna waste too much timeon that. I am going to talk
more about the game of golf inthe nine o'clock hour, though, because
right here in our own hometown thisweek we have the Chevron Championship, the

(01:03:36):
women's first major of the year. They're playing that at the on the Nicholas
Course up at Carlton Woods in theWoodlands, and I'll tell you more about
that in the nine It's a greattournament, great people in here for it
too. I had um. Ican't remember the man's name. Do you
remember the guy's name we talked tothis past week out of just off hand

(01:03:59):
or no. I can find itnow, and don't worry about it.
Don't worry about it. But it'sone of the reasons I do I'm enjoying
watching women's golf more is because theyfrankly, they've elevated their games. They've
elevated their games in the past tenyears to where it's a better product overall,

(01:04:23):
and there are the competition is tougher. This is a major championship.
And the leader through two days isat seven under par, which is about
right, I think for what they'redoing and what they're playing, and I
think it's a fantastic score, iswhat I'm talking about. And nobody within

(01:04:45):
two shots of her. Let's see, we talked to Jeremy Harvey Samuel.
That's right, Jeremy, the leader. I made a mistake there. The
leader is at eight under par,and that woman got there. She finished
Thursday apparently at one under, andshot seven under yesterday. That's darned good

(01:05:08):
golf on any golf course of anylength. All they're doing right now with
the men's game is trying to stretchit out farther and farther. I heard
somebody say the other day that theywere playing a course at or would be
playing a course at around seventy oneseventy two yards. So that's pretty short
really for what we play, LikeHoly cow, not for me, all

(01:05:29):
right. I'm thinking about shifting gearsand playing the Texas temperature game, which
means because I have speaking of golf, some free golf to offer to a
winner. Now, what I havehere at present is north Side Golf.
So if you like Northside Golf,I can give you a couple of options
if you do win. One wouldbe River Plantation. One would be Okursed

(01:05:53):
courtesy of my friend David Preisler, who owns both of those courses. And
if if you if you win andyou go there, promise me that you
will ask if David is on theproperty, and if so, thank him
for this, because he just doesthis for giggles. He doesn't ask for
anything for it. He just said, yeah, I'll help you out whatever
you need. So what I needis someone to challenge at him, and

(01:06:17):
that will be whoever he gets ontothe phone. Just whichever one lights up
and you feel like feel like yougot somebody there you can beat, go
ahead and take him seven one threetwo one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninetyIf nobody answers the phone after several rings,

(01:06:38):
that will mean that we've already gotsomebody. And if you go back
to your radio, you'll find usplaying the game without you. This isn't
like the weakest Link where I'll bemean if you make a bad answer either.
It's just a fun little game thatwe play. Seven two one two
five seven ninety email me. Well, you don't need to email me on
this. I just need somebody onthe phone. Sometimes they're quiet at him.

(01:07:00):
You gotta give them a minute.I'm not even worried about it.
Oh, I'll tell you what Ican do while I'm doing this. This
is something that's important to all ofus. I'll say the phone number one
more time, and then I'm gonnago into this seven one three two one
two five seven ninet. If youwant to win some free golf, Oh,
we gotta taker yeah, I seenow they come flooding in. All

(01:07:23):
right, that's all right. Youpick somebody you think you can beat at
them. There is talk lately amonga bunch of automakers about ditching AM radio
from their vehicles, and I reallydon't want that to happen. They want
to take away access to the samestations that millions of us count on for
local emergencies. All right, ifyour phone's still ringing, that means I'm

(01:07:47):
sorry you didn't make the cut.I'll get back to this AM radio thing
and how you can hopefully help uskeep these signals alive in your cars because
you can't really rely on your phonefor a lot of stuff, not just
this show, but a lot ofemergency stuff. Adam, fire up the

(01:08:08):
music. Is it hot? Isit called? We'll find out on the
Texas Temperature Game? Because you're hot, yours cold as All right? I

(01:08:31):
think I have all this figured out. I'm gonna go ahead and get Tom
on the phone. What's up,Tom? How you doing? Man?
Oh? Good, girt? It'san honor system game. Can I trust
your integrity? Sir? Yes,sir, that's my qualifying question from now
on, Adam. And that's theonly shot you get it figured out,
whether you're playing with somebody who who'ssneaky. I think we can trust Tom.

(01:08:54):
All right, Here we go,Tom, because you're the contestant.
Do you want to go first orsecond? Oh? Go suck and I
guess. Okay, Adam, whatdo you consider to be the current low
temperature in the state of Texas rightnow? Who? This is a weird
day, isn't it. I gotup and it was sixty and the thermometer
here says it's fifty nine, andI don't know how it got colder.

(01:09:16):
So I'll go like thirty three.Thirty three pretty low. But okay,
Tom, what do you consider tobe the current low temperature in the state
of Texas? Thirty five? Okay, Adam, what do you consider to
be the current high temperature in theentire state of Texas? I'll go seventy

(01:09:38):
two, seventy two, Tom,what do you think is the current high
temperature in the state of Texas.I'm gonna go seventy eight, seventy eight.
Okay, we have a winner. And the current low temperature, by
the way, is actually thirty four. Adam missed it by one. Tom,
you missed it by two, I'mafraid. And the current high temperature

(01:10:01):
is seventy three. Adam only missedby one. He is that your best?
You? Yeah? You gotta sayyou scored a seven, which you
should get. That would get younormally into the Hall of Fame. Tom,
But this is getting to be areally tight game here, and people
are getting better at it. AndI promise you a seven would win on

(01:10:24):
any other day with any other player. But Adam was just on fire this
morning in Fuego. Yeah, hewas, Thanks, man, How do
you feel. Where do you liketo play golf? Oh? I played
uh, Cycers Lakes the other day. Good for you? How was it?
I haven't played over there in years. I like the course pretty fast?

(01:10:45):
Pretty fast? Oh lord, yeahthey always were if I recall correctly,
How would you you know what winor lose? I don't really care.
Hold on a minute. You wantto go to uh you want to
go play? Oh, kirst yes, sir ah, Well, we're gonna
set you up as though you won. I don't. At some point,
if my certificates get kind of thin, I may have to not reward.

(01:11:08):
Oh no, here's what we'll do. Adam. This is the rule,
and Tommy, you are the firstto be the beneficiary of this rule.
If the opponent, if the callerloses but scores a single digit score,
nonetheless, then it's as good asa win because they're playing against a professional
temperature guests or after all. Allright, so okay, look, we're

(01:11:30):
gonna put you back on hold.I'm gonna let Adam do that, and
I will tell you how, whenand where you can come pick up your
certificate. And it's for four ofyou. Okay, there are some you
can't go on a holiday, andyou can't take up his early morning weekend
times, but other things considered.Yeah, it's it's still for you and
three buddies to go play some golfat oak Khurst. All right, very

(01:11:51):
good, get his information. Yeah, thank you, Tom. I appreciate
you playing, man, Thanks forplaying. All right. Yeah, I'm
gonna put him on hold. Therewe go. All right, Adam,
you take care of that. Holdit. Yeah, to see what You're
lucky you had a good morning.Because anybody who can I mean single digits,
how many times did you or Ryanor Tray or anybody gets single digits?

(01:12:14):
It's not easy. Well done, man, I got some real players
in this game kind of fun,and we did. We finally got everybody
to call. I think it.Part of it's the delay, and part
of its people sitting at home thinking, gosh, there's no way I can
get in, but you can. It's it's not like I'm giving away cars

(01:12:35):
and everybody's calling and everybody's jamming thephone lines. It's just we're letting somebody
go play some free golf at acool golf course. That's all. I
am so blessed to have relationships withthe golf people I do in town.
I was talking about this with anold friend yesterday on the phone. He
also pretty well dialed in around townwith golf, and we agreed one with

(01:13:00):
each other that we have met probablysome of the best people we've ever met
in and around golf. There's justno question about it. It's fantastic.
All right, let me get backto well, no, I'll tell you
what I'm gonna stick to, kindof being close to brakes on time.
The AM radio thing is important though, if there's an emergency, your local

(01:13:23):
broadcast radio station is going to beable to provide you in your car if
your powers out. And I've donethis at my house during hurricanes there's no
power, cell phone's dead, arealmost dead, and I don't want to
waste it just sitting around listening tothe radio. So I'll go to my
car where I know I'm not evenusing up the juice in my phone and

(01:13:43):
just sit there, turn on theradio and find out what the heck's going
on around me and when it's gonnastop. That's as important as anything is
knowing when you're gonna get relief fromthis, and an AM radio is gonna
help. Plus, am radio cangive you real time stuff where during the
hurricanes we get a lot of callsfrom listeners saying, hey, something big

(01:14:04):
just happened, good or bad overthis way. Maybe it's a place where
they just brought in a thousand palletsof water, or maybe it's a place
where the power just came back onor just went out, or whatever,
roads closed or something. We getthat help from listeners, who in turn

(01:14:24):
help everybody else who can listen toan AM radio in their car. Text
five to eight eighty six and textAM to five two eight eight six,
and let Congress know that we wantto keep the radio, that AM radio
in our cars and trucks. It'simportant. It's a lifeline, it really

(01:14:45):
is. We have fun here, but that AM radio in an emergency is
a lot of people's only lifeline, the one in the car, because everything
else in the house doesn't have electricity. All right, we gotta take a
little break here. I'm gonna justjump right out. We'll jump right back
in as quick as we can.More of the Doug Pike Show or right

(01:15:05):
after this, This is Sports Talkseven ninety on the Goal with iHeartRadio.
The conversation continues. This is theDoug Pike Show thirty seven on Sports Talk

(01:15:41):
seven ninety. We're past a halfwaymark already, holy cow seven three two
on two five seven ninety. Emailme Dougpike at iHeartMedia dot Com that I
think that's silly. I'm not goingto talk about that or that. I
will tell you speaking of this thisAM radio thing, it's very important.

(01:16:02):
If they take AM radios out ofvehicles, it just makes it makes no
sense. And the knee jerk reactiontypically is, well, you can always
use iHeartRadio, for example, tolisten digitally, to listen to the streaming
coverage of our shows and our stations. But it's just not the same in

(01:16:24):
an emergency. Hold on, Idropped something waiting here. Oh my gosh,
pick that up. It's not thesame. And it's not the same
for sure in an emergency. Onceagain, if the electricity is out,
if you have no way to chargeyour phone or your laptop, which is
man that electricity some pretty expensive stuff. Kind of a vow it's valuable.

(01:16:46):
It shouldn't get more expensive. Idon't like programs that punish people who want
to try to save a little moneyon a short term and get hammered during
a major storm event like happened afew years ago. But as an aside,
that's just personal never mind. Thebottom line is we need these radios

(01:17:08):
in those cars. If you're movingand let's say you you here. And
once again, when Harvey was comingthrough, I was told. I was
told that my home was going tobe surrounded at some point very soon by
three to four feet of water, which I don't have room for three or

(01:17:29):
four feet of water around my house. That means there will be about three
feet of it in the house ifthe neighborhood took three or four feet and
I wanted to get out of there, and when I did, I had
to scramble out with whatever charge Ihad on my phone. Then all of
that stuff, and I relied onehundred percent on KTRH for my news and

(01:17:54):
information as I drove my family overto my sister in law's house. Just
as simple was that there was noother way to get that. And I
don't know, I don't even knowback then how reliable some of the streaming
services were. They're better now,but they still rely on electricity. So
do us all a favor and textthat AM to five to eight eighty six.

(01:18:16):
Let Congress know we need to keepthese AM radios in the cars and
stuff. This isn't for commercial reasons. I'm saying this either. It's not
for financial reasons. It's a safetyissue. It really is. It really
is speaking. I saw this storythis week over in Florida. People are
getting apologies from being awakened two morningsago buy an emergency alert on their phones.

(01:18:45):
They were just testing the signal anddidn't intend, they say, to
send it out that early. Youknow, if I had a government job
and I felt stuck and I didn'tlike it and it was just boring meter
tears, I might shoot out andan emergency alert a little early. Now,
that wouldn't be me. I couldn'tdo that. Seven one three two

(01:19:05):
one two five seven ninety email onMedugpike at iHeartMedia dot com. I want
to go back. I did somefishing yesterday and I want to go back
to what Rick was talking about withdifferent rigs in different ways to modify your
equipment. And I've talked about thatbefore on this program a lot. There

(01:19:26):
are little things I do to spinnerbaits, to buzz baits, the little
things I do to crank baits tochange very subtly the way they act in
the water, and most of ushave things like that that we do.
I like the idea of the littlestraw because it does it's not I don't
think it's going to hurt anything inthe rig, in the water, in

(01:19:48):
the way the fish look at it, and whether or not they'll eat it.
If there's anything wiggily and halfway deliciouslooking to a bass, that bass
is gonna smoke it, They're gonnaeat it. And I do like the
idea of not getting hung up onas many lily pads and stuff like that.

(01:20:09):
With that four or five or sixinches of plastic, fairly rigid plastic
out front, and I think youcould use those stir sticks, just standard
bar room stirsticks. Gonna have tothread your leader through that and then tie
it on them to put your beadon there. That's also going to give
you a little bit of a click, Not much banging into a plastic stirstick,

(01:20:30):
but there'll be a little vibration,a little bit of sound generated every
time you twitch that thing, andthat beads slaps the top of that thing,
top of the straw. I'm gonnatry that first thing. I guess
I gotta go to a bar andgrab a few stir sticks. I don't
think there aren't many places that stillhave plastic stirstick, but I'll bet you
most of the nightclubs have them.I haven't been in a nightclub. God,

(01:20:57):
I don't know how many decades it'sbeen. All Right, we need
to take a break on that cheerfulnote. I'm really glad I've had better
at the last fifteen years. I'vebeen raising a son and didn't didn't make
many trips into nightclubs before that asa married man, like zero unless we
were together, and don't really planon going back now. It'd be creepy

(01:21:23):
to see somebody my age hanging outin the club. Back when I bartended,
I saw guys my age now cominginto these clubs and trying to talk
to young women and just making foolsof themselves. Kind of all right,
Belleville Meat Market to be a goodplace to go meet other people who like
delicious meat products and whatever. Idon't know that it's a great place to

(01:21:45):
whatever. Here's the deal. Rightnow, they are featuring sage bacon smoke
sausage and halapeno beacon smoke sausage withtheir try it before you Buy It,
Little hook Boy. As soon asyou put the toothpick into that little piece
of sausage up there to try itwith your other hand. Just go ahead

(01:22:05):
and reach for your wallet. I'vetried, probably, I'll bet at least
twelve of the flavors of sausage theyhave out of the two dozen plus,
at least twelve I've tried, Iknow, and I haven't found one that
I don't like yet. That's thehard part. They're also good on special
right now, stuffed peppers and stuffedmushrooms or fifteen percent off of all of

(01:22:30):
those. They've got fresh ground beefin there daily. This is locally sourced
great ground beat three fifty nine poundif you'll buy ten pounds or more.
And then of course those fresh fryarsat a buck ninety nine a pound,
anytime, any whenever you can getthere. The processing plant caddy cornered from
the main meat market is still offeringto make you vinny dogs or hog dogs

(01:22:55):
out of your venison and wild pig. You bring something from your hunt that
the whole family and enjoy. Ifyou've got frozen quarters of deer, for
example, you got frozen quarters thatyou just never got around the processing yourself.
Haul that out there to Belleville MeatMarket and they will turn it into
whatever you want it turned into. You don't have to wait until next season.

(01:23:15):
If you've got deer meat, oryou've got hog meat in the freezer
now, or you can bring thema fresh hog. They'll turn them into
hot dogs for you. Pretty prettycool stuff. Vinny dogs they call them,
and hog dogs. Belleville meat Market. They're on Highway thirty six,
about midway between Seay and Hempstead.Very easy to find. Just drive into

(01:23:38):
town, then roll down your windowson this very windy Saturday morning, and
as soon as you smell delicious barbecue, then turn into the wind and it'll
take you right to the parking lotat Belleville meat Market. Belleville Meatmarket dot
com is the website. They've beenthere forty something years. They'll send just
about anything short of an entire cowright to your house. They might chip

(01:24:00):
that to you. Who knows.Belleville Meatmarket dot com. Our sportstock seven
nineties Houston Sports. Where do yougo with iHeart Radio? No? No,
get more dug when you get allright, welcome back. I hope

(01:24:41):
all this audience is well over, you know. I hope you've recovered from
being at Taylor Swift last night. She's in town. In case you didn't
know, everybody knows. Actually it'skind of most people knew anyway. You
couldn't avoid it. Even on thename Lena Haddalgo Judge Lena had Dolg went
absolutely giddy on Twitter with a littleI guess to call him a tweet right

(01:25:05):
about how this whole city of Houston, which is so thrilled she was coming
to your town. And I'm nottaking anything away from Taylor Smith. She's
practically selling out Reliant Stadium three timeswhile she's here. But what God in
Lena Hidalg goes, oh, wehave something very special plan for you.
I don't know what that could be, and it doesn't really matter. But

(01:25:29):
the bottom line is I saw thata bunch of internet trolls had gotten on
her for what they considered excess inexcusableuse of her private jet. Well,
first of all, Taylor Swift,I read yesterday, doesn't have a jet.
She has jets, She owns severaland keeps them in her own personal

(01:25:54):
hanger. So life is good forTaylor Swift. And like I was telling
Adam, it doesn't matter to mehow many trips she makes in her private
jet. When you are a businessand you run a business, and that
business really is you, there aregoing to be and it's that successful.
They are gonna be a lot ofplaces. She needs to be a lot

(01:26:15):
of fast. She needs to behere and then later this afternoon she might
need to be halfway across the country. And you can't do that on a
train or a bus. What didyou tell me you thought was the reason
that the trolls were after her sohard? At him? She'd take the
jet to the grocery store. Yeah, I know. There's actually a good

(01:26:36):
friend of mine's. Good friend ownsa jet, a significant private jet up
in Dallas and his wife because shegets bored shopping in Dallas. So help
me. He told me that thishappens like once every six weeks, eight
weeks, his wife and her dogwill bore their big private jet fly to

(01:27:02):
Houston. She gets picked up,taken to the galleria for a few hours,
then taken back to the jet andback to Dallas. Got nothing better
to do, I guess let mego talk to Aaron. What's up Aaron?
Hey, mister Doug Pike. Longtime they'll talk to Yeah, man,
where are you today? I'm overhere off of the West Belt and

(01:27:25):
I can finishing up some sprinkler work. But I've just wanted to say thanks
for your show. Sure, AndOld Guys Old Guys Surf Reunion a week
from today in Surfside. Oh okay, out standing. Is there any place
online I can find something on that? Yeah? Or just google it?
Okay? Oh yeah, Old GuysSurfer Union. It'll be You'll know everybody

(01:27:48):
there, most of them, probablythe ones that hadn't died, you know,
Holy cow, a bunch of oldpeople. I wonder if Dog's going
to that. I'll have to callhim and check it out. Maybe we
could ride down together after my showor something. That'd be kind of fun.
So probably will I would be onethe bet. Where is headquarters for
this thing? Eron? Um?I think it's soon, Pard, but

(01:28:12):
you can go on Facebook and it'llbe on there, just typing in are
Just just drive over the bridge andas soon as you get to the top
of the bridge, just look forthe glare coming off all the bald heads.
That's all you gotta do. They'regonna they're starting at ten and they're
gonna have a bonfire after dark andit's gonna go to like ten o'clock at
night. But wow, holy cowman. Yeah yeah, big day.

(01:28:38):
Yeah man, I hope you getsome hope you get some decent surf that
day. That'd be kind of cool. Man. There's been a lot of
surf, but I haven't. Ihaven't made it. I just had it
roughed in on me. But yeah, the better it has, the more
calls you're gonna get, you know, And it's just people just heckling you
because you couldn't go. And that'sthe way it is. We needs to

(01:28:59):
do it too. Oh yeah, all's fair in love and war and surfing.
I guess the wind this morning,I wouldn't. I don't know where
you'd go this morning. It's blowingnortheast at thirty. Where are you gonna
go? What rocks you're gonna getbehind? Yeah? It may be like
all the way to a Quintana kindof thing, you know. Yeah,

(01:29:21):
Quintana's actually been really good the lastyear, so believe it or not.
Oh, I believe it, youknow. And that's something a lot of
people around here they just say,oh, you know, there's no way
I'll tell people. Yeah, I'vebeen surfing a long time. Now,
I haven't been into the water ina while, I'll confess, okay,
but I did it a lot ofyears, really really hard. And when

(01:29:44):
you learn this area and pick yourdays and pick your spots, the surf
can be way better than most peoplethink. They'll say, well, really,
where did you surf right here?Well, there aren't any waves here,
are there? Well? Yeah, there actually are, and they're actually
a lot of fun on the rightday, aren't they. Yes, sir,
man's good stuff. Man, didyou get how much of when they

(01:30:08):
first widened the channel at surf Side? I know you got out there,
but was that not one of thebest waves on a bit? In fact,
this wind right here would have probablyset that up really well, wasn't
it. Yeah. I actually hadthe little surf shops there. Text makes
Safari Oh gosh, yeah, Iforgot about that, Randy. We were
one of the first two or threepeople to surf it because we were down

(01:30:30):
there all the time. Yeah, yeah, it was something else. Yeah,
that's probably one of the better days. I remember. I borrowed a
board a seven to six something fromdogging on the way down there, because
what I had at the time wasn'tright. It was a little bit bigger
than what I wanted to ride,or that board was the size that I
wanted to ride in there as opposedto this little shorty thing I had.

(01:30:50):
And man, that was probably oneof the best days I've ever had because
you could just ride that wave.If you knew how to turn both ways,
you could ride that wave for whatthree hundred four hundred yards? It's
amazing. Yeah, I remember many, Yeah, it's something else way overhead.
Yeah, I remember Bean, Jeanand Gore and Rachel were out there

(01:31:13):
one day and the tide started goingout and repaddled for two hours and man
almost got washed out. Yeah.Yeah, you had to work hard for
it a little bit, but god, it was a great way. Hey,
I gotta run to the top.Break here man than Aaron. It's
great to hear from you. Theold guys surf reunion next week at surf
Side. Just get on the beach. You'll find him that that won't be

(01:31:35):
hard to find, Willie. It'sgonna be a big party that got tenders
to denders. It's gonna be likea fairwo awesome tear it up, many
idle out. I'll expect pictures ina report. We're gonna paddle out and
spread ashes for all that. Okay, it's a it's a significant deal.

(01:31:57):
Yeah it is. That's great, man. I'm glad you guys are doing
that. Thank you, Aaron.I'll see you buddy. Yeah the weather
you too, man, see youbye. Yeah next weekend down there at
surf side, the old guys surfreunions. There's a bunch of us too.
I gotta get back at it.That's the best condition you'll be in.
If you start surfing, you'll you'lldon't have a choice but to get

(01:32:18):
in good physical shape, good cardioshape. The boatyard is a good place
to go. Maybe we'd get somebodyfrom the boatyard to go to there and
tow people out. That would benice. Just give me a ride out
to where I need to jump off. Boatyard is in Kiema on five eighteen.
You'll be able to know you're therebecause there'll be a bunch of boats
out front facing the highway. Boatsthat are for sale, and that some

(01:32:42):
of them are built right there, the little case gifts they build them right
there on site. Or you mightsee some some boats you really like from
some of the best boatmakers. Inthe state and in the country, and
there'll be a few odds and endsused boats too, pre owned boats,
people who have either upgraded or changethe style of boat they want for whatever

(01:33:02):
they're doing. But there's a beautiful, perfect little boat sitting right there and
might talk to you and be theone you need next. They also do
outstanding service work on the boat you'vegot right now. If you want that,
they can add to Hot Sue powerto it up to two hundred and
fifty horsepower. That's a great worldwidename for many, many years and now

(01:33:24):
making inroads into Texas in the UnitedStates to Hot Sue is. They've got
polling, they've got platforms, they'vegot electronics. I'm trying to look around
and think my way through the store. Elect tons of electronics, all the
latest stuff there. They have gotpower poles, they've got trolling motors.
Everything you need to make that boata little more yours, a little better

(01:33:47):
for what you like to do whenyou're riding around on it. Eagles Boatyard
dot Com. That's the website. They do fantastic service work, and they
mentioned that Eagles Boatyard dot Com.This is the Doug Pike Show brought to
you by American shooting centers, gunsshooting at instruction since nineteen eighty nine,

(01:34:10):
and by taking Vegas dot com ortwenty years helping sports investors make better,
more informed decisions. Now here's DougPike. Nine o'clock hour starts right now.
I'm sending an email right now.I got to get that out of
here. I'm gonna put that outthere and we'll move on seven one three,

(01:34:36):
two one two five seven ninety email. Meet Dougpike at iHeartMedia dot com.
Let me get back over here tothis Zurich Classic leaderboard to tell you
what's going on over there in NewOrleans. I've actually I've never played that
golf course, but I have.I have seen it, and I spent

(01:34:57):
as a little kid, my grandmotherlived over there. I spent a lot
of time over there with my family. It was fairly short drive even back
then, and we would go overthere for major holidays and whatnot to see
her while she was still alive.Clark and Hostler at sixteen, as I
mentioned earlier in the program, Redmanand writer, Red Writer. That's kind

(01:35:18):
of a cool team right there. At fifteen, along with Mitchell and m
Xander Schoffley and Patrick can't lay atfourteen A trainer and Ramy also at fourteen.
Oh, there's a bunch of fourteens. Hold on, I'll get to
him. This thing is not Oh, let me click this. Maybe I'll
have a chance. Can't lay andthey're looking at potentially breaking a record.

(01:35:43):
It said here, I don't knowwhat it's going to be. I'll go
back to that in a little while. In other words, we got two
more days agolf with these guys justhaving fun as much as anything. It's
kind of a break from the PGATour while it's still a PGA Tour event
because they get to do something differentthan grind out four stroke play rounds over

(01:36:04):
Thursday through Sunday. And I kindof liked that for those guys. I
think they would enjoy it. I'mcertain that they would enjoy it. Okay,
good? Oh that No, thiscame by email, Dan, I'm
responding to something that just popped in. This was an email that popped in
with a phone number on it,but I guess that's because it was texted.

(01:36:28):
I'll send him another email in alittle while. I do like the
way that turnment is formatted. Theyplay different different games daily. It's it's
kind of a fun thing for them, a relaxation thing, like I said,
and then off they'll go next weekto get back at each other's throats
instead of at least having a partnerto reach out and grab with this weekend.

(01:36:50):
Also next weekend, I mentioned thatthe hold on let me go to
the LPGA stuff. I got toget this email off my screen here for
a second and go back where Iwas there. We are the Chevron Championship
up there in the woodlands at theNicholas Course at they're gonna be hold on

(01:37:14):
this thing? Does I don't likethe different formats of all these leaderboards because
it makes it very, very difficultto come through. And the one thing
I don't like on this women's leaderboardis it does not give first names.
And I'm not They're not household namesto me, so forgive me. I'm
just gonna give you their last namesunless I absolutely positively know the first name.

(01:37:36):
Eight under part Kim al Kim.I can't do that. M King
at seven, l Boo at seven, Brooks Henderson at six along with Tabotnikut,
I did that right. I can'tremember her first name Tabotonikut. I
think I got that one right, and then Nellie Korda also at six,

(01:37:56):
the five under pars as Corpus Yenand Vealnezuela, and then the fours go
down from here. I was hopingthat Stacy Lewis might make a run,
but I looked and she was alreadyat one overpar so nine shots off the
lead. Essentially good for her forbeing there and still grinding's She's doing as

(01:38:20):
well or better than many, soI don't fault her for not playing better.
And she's going to have a lotof other obligations in golf as she
kind of moves a little bit awayfrom competition whenever she's ready and then moves
into more of a mentor role fora lot of these women coming up.

(01:38:44):
I was thinking about it the otherday, and I've gotten the opportunity over
my years of covering this game, not just to meet and talk with a
lot of the guys on the men'sside, but some pretty important names on
the women's side, and Stacy Lewiscertainly counts there. Over the years,
I've spoken with Michelle Wee, PaulKremer, Natalie Gouldbus. I got to

(01:39:12):
interview Nancy Lopez at length once justsitting across the table from her, or
excuse me. At river Oaks CountryClub many years ago. I had the
very distinct honor actually on a tripto Florida years ago. I was broadcasting
from there, and I don't rememberwho was producing, but we showed up
and we were being We got escortedfirst two, as we always did on

(01:39:38):
a Friday when we got there.First thing we want to do is make
sure we've got a good broadcast setup. So we go over to where we're
going to broadcast from the next morning, and I noticed some signage on the
way into the club about how AnnikaSorenstam was in town to host a kid's
clinic at that place the next day, as I guess for the members kids.

(01:40:00):
I don't know whose kids they were, but the long and the short
of it was she was going tobe there, and I just casually said
to my producer, Hey, ifyou can find her people, I asked
her the guy who was driving, whether she was around that day. No,
she's just coming in tomorrow. SoI got my producer and I wish
I remembered who it was. I'dgive him full credit to find out if

(01:40:21):
she would be willing to give mea few minutes of her time on Saturday
morning when I was doing the show. And Saturday morning comes along and we
arrive at the and he did tellme Friday night that he found somebody who
was going to ask somebody to askher people if she could whatever. So
we're sitting there doing the show onSaturday morning, and over my shoulder,

(01:40:45):
I see somebody walking toward this tablethat I'm sitting at, just a plain
old folding table with a little probablya little tent skirt around it, and
all my papers spread out all overthe place, and dog on if it
not Onika Sorenstam, And I thought, wow, she's passing by clothes.
Maybe she did get the message. She walks right over, sits down,

(01:41:08):
doesn't say a word, doesn't interruptat all. And I pretty much finished
my sentence and then said, herewe go. And I had I was
smart enough even back then to haveput down at least I think a half
a dozen maybe a little bit more, maybe more questions. I wanted to

(01:41:28):
ask her about her career and whatshe was doing and why she was in
town, and this, that andthe other, and just a fascinating,
wonderfully easy to talk to a woman, and what an ambassador for the game
she has been and continues to be. That was one of my best snags.
I honestly think so Anica Sorenstam wasfantastic, and that race up there

(01:41:50):
with Nicholas. I got to talkto him about fishing for twenty minutes once.
That was pretty cool. Maybe tenminutes. It wasn't twenty to be
fair, but nonetheless, after hehad finished talking about what's your favorite shot
you ever hit and stuff like thatthat these other clowns were asking, I
did my research and knew that heloved to fish, and that's what got

(01:42:13):
me way more time than anybody elsegot. It was kind of fun.
Seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety Email me Dougpike at iHeartMedia dot
com. I went and hit ballsyesterday for the first time in a week,
and that to some of you thatmight not sound like a long way
away, but to me it kindof was. To me, it kind
of was because I'm used to hittingballs at least maybe two times a week,

(01:42:38):
and at that point it had beenwhy is this think so loud?
Let me quiet down this laptop I'msure you guys are hearing that, and
I apologize. It shouldn't. It'snot necessary. I just have to bring
this number down. That's way better. It won't be near as loud now.
And I noticed that while my swingwasn't it's not long enough that I

(01:43:01):
forgot how to swing a golf club. And I'm in the middle of a
swing change, which is very difficult. But I did notice that I didn't
I was tending to lean back tomy old habit, even in just that
short week or so that I'd beenaway. And I'm gonna make a note
to myself, a mental note,at least I am. I gonna write
it down or tattoo it to mybackward, to my forehead or anything,

(01:43:25):
but I am going to make amental note that when I go to work
on my game, I've got towork on the new swing and the new
swing alone, and not let theold habits creep in, because the old
game wasn't horrible. And frankly,my handicap hasn't come down yet. And
it's not because the new swing isn'tbetter and more efficient and more accurate,

(01:43:48):
but it's because I haven't incorporated it. One hundred percent into my game.
And for people who play golf likeI do and most of you do,
it's gonna take us longer than itwould take a professional to change a swing,
because they're making hundreds of swings aday and probably a thousand swings a

(01:44:11):
week, whereas you and I arelucky to go hit a bucket or two
of balls a week. It's gonnatake us a little longer. Also,
we're not professional golfers. We're notstarting from a place where you can just
take it to the course and justkeep using your old swing until you're ready
to introduce the new swing. Thatit's hard enough to learn one golf swing,

(01:44:31):
for heaven's sakes, let alone two. And I've got that stirring around
in my head, just bubbling inthere. I've got a putting change that
I want to make that's bouncing offthe walls in there. And on top
of that, I've got a shortgame new thought. Oh and my dear

(01:44:53):
friend Tommy O'Brien. As much asI love that guy, man he is
he's one of the best. I'veknown him since he was one of the
new whist instructors in golf in thisregion. And now I know him as
one of the best. He's thehead golf instructor over at Blackhawk Country Club,
and I've known him since he wasa much younger man and dog gone

(01:45:14):
if he didn't put something in myhead about the sand game and what we
know now about bunker shots and howthey're supposed to be hit that doesn't balance
with anything that I learned ten, fifteen, twenty years ago and had gotten
pretty good at doing. And nowevery time I step into the bunker to

(01:45:38):
hit a shot, it's like,oh, remember what Tommy said, and
and I end up hitting this hybridswing. It's half mine, half his,
and I'm not getting the results Iused to get. Now when I
practice in the bunker hitting the shothe says to hit, it worked,

(01:46:00):
and it works quite well, andit's eventually going to be great. But
I wasn't a bad bunker player before, and now I've gone from better than
average. I would humbly say,I'm not great by any stretch of the
imagine, but I'm better than averageout of bunkers, and now I've gone
to kind of average right now.But it's only because I haven't incorporated the

(01:46:25):
new stuff. I can't find myway back to the old, and I
can't find my way to the new, and it's driving me battye. All
right, we'll take a little breakhere on the way out, I'll tell
you about Shooters Corner. Shooters Corner, Palmer Highway, twenty ninth Street one
of the coolest little gun stores inTexas. It's a small place, it's

(01:46:46):
a humble place where two of thebest gunsmiths in the entire state own and
operate the store. The people theyhave working for them are experts also in
making sure you get the right firearm, you get the right ammo, you
get the right optics, you getthe right everything to make your shooting sports

(01:47:08):
it's fun. Just make you abetter shot, make sure you get the
gun you want, make sure youget the optics that it needs. They've
got reloading supplies, They've got avery good supply of AMMO right now,
which none of us really knew wasever going to come back. But it's
it's doing well. It's doing better. Prices have come down too, all

(01:47:30):
the great hunting supplies you could possiblyimagine. Plus a bunch of people in
there who love to talk about shootingsports, who love to hear your stories
about shooting sports old school. Goin there, take a load off,
have a seat, listen, justlisten to the stories that get told in
there. Even if you don't haveany of your own. They'll take care

(01:47:51):
of you. Whether you've been shootingall your life or whether you're brand new
to guns. Make sure you getwhat you need. If you wear a
badge for a living, by theway, you get a discount. Shooters
Corner, And I like that aboutthem, I really do. The Shooters

com. That's slashing sports Talk sevenninety. Back to the Doug Pike Show.
Sweet Jesus in the railway station,a train that goes. The train

(01:48:49):
is on time. Tapping Matto singingalong in here. Almost got lost in
the song. That is good.I think this is like the biggest earworm
after why I'll be humming this forthe next two weeks. Probably so,

(01:49:10):
probably so Holy cow. Dan sentme a message his proud grandpa, his
oldest daughter, granddaughter, excuse meand let me just get this right.
Destiny and Marie Bennett as graduate.Well, we'll graduate in a few weeks

(01:49:30):
as valedictorian of her class at WestPlains High School in Missouri. How about
that? Congratulations to Destiny and MarieBennett. That's not easy. That is
not an easy task. And I'mglad to glad to see that someone from

(01:49:50):
that school was recognized as such becausethere was a push around this country recently.
I saw a news story about alot of colleges actually doing away with
recognition of valedictorian, salutatori and allthese these things that people work so hard

(01:50:14):
to achieve because it wasn't fair tothe people who didn't win. You know,
life's not fair, okay, AndI don't know when we got onto
this track of making sure that theparticipate spit it out, Doug, Holy

(01:50:34):
cow, the participation trophy thing, everybody gets the same trophy. That's not
how you learn how to get aheadin life. Because what's happened now is
we've got a bunch of people whothink that they're entitled to something just for
showing up, that they're entitled tosomething. You're lucky, I'm here.
I don't have to flip these burgers. Well, no, you don't.

(01:50:57):
And you know, what happened?Do you hear about this, Adam,
there's a monolds. It's being kindof tested where they still, at least
for now, have people cooking thefood. However, what they also have
now is robotics delivering the food, robotics taking your order, robotics taking your

(01:51:19):
credit card payment, because they're noteven accepting cash. And eventually they're going
to be robots that can be taughthow to flip a hamburger and make sure
it's at exactly the right temperature andmake sure the exact right ingredients get on
it. Now, there will bemistakes made, of course, but sixteen
eighteen nineteen year old kids make mistakestoo. But what this is the result

(01:51:45):
is the product of people demanding eighteentwenty twenty two hour dollars an hour to
serve fast food. It's untenable. It can't be sustained. It'd be like
demanding that you catch fish when yougo someplace with a guide. We demand

(01:52:08):
that we catch fish or we're notgonna pay you. Well, then get
off my boat. Then get offmy boat, because I can take you
where I think they'll be. Butif they moved yesterday and we can't find
them, then we might not catchfish. We're gonna try real hard,
and I'm gonna do my best foryou, but I can't promise you anything.

(01:52:28):
There's nothing that bothers me more ortwo things that sit side by side
on the bother people who call andsay, yeah, I expect to catch
a lot of fish or I expectto shoot a lot of geese today,
and if we don't, I'm notgoing to be happy. Well, then
just don't go on a guided trip. Because if you're measuring your success by

(01:52:50):
the number of dead fish or deadbirds you have at the end of it
all, then maybe you just goto the grocery store and buy yourself some
chickens or by yourself some farm raisedtelapia and call it a day. Because
the guiding experience is part part huntingor part fishing in this case these cases,

(01:53:15):
and none of that really has tofinish with dead animals. Now,
is it better if I pay fora duck hunt to shoot some ducks?
Of course it is. But assomeone who did this for fourteen years,
I had my share just like everybodyelse did, of days when the birds

(01:53:36):
win a different direction than we thoughtand we got really lucky to maybe get
one or two. On horrible, rare occasions, we wouldn't get any birds.
The sun comes up, a kyoruns through the roost, the birds
dash out in the wrong direction, away from you, and you watch them

(01:53:57):
disappear over the horizon. Hundred thousandbirds and they all even go the wrong
way. And it's it's rough, and you tell every joke you know,
You chat about the weather, youchat about ask them whether they like to
fish too, whatever. But youmake it as pleasant as you can because

(01:54:18):
it's the experience that matters. AndI hope there's some guides listening. I
hope they understand how much I'm ontheir side, because that just used to
drive me crazy. And a lotof times it as a guide, it
was frustrating because I'd have some peopleat the end of a morning where we
sat there for five hours and neverfired a shot, and that happened.

(01:54:42):
It happens usually on a northeast windand a light sky like we have this
morning. Burches don't move that much. The bottom line is it happened,
and a lot of these guys wouldgo, Man, you worked hard.
Every everything we saw in the airyou called that. You were calling it
mocking birds. And and killed deer. And we were trying at least,
we were out there having fun.It was a beautiful sunrise. Man,

(01:55:04):
thanks for taking us. We'll beback. And then you get guys out
there who would go through fifty sixtyrounds apiece, maybe seventy five, three
boxes shelves a piece. Four guysand we got nine birds on the ground,
and they're complaining because hunting wasn't verygood. No, it wasn't the

(01:55:25):
hunting that was no good. Itwas you're shooting. And it's the same
with fishing guides. I know toomany of them, and I know what
goes through their minds, and itdrives them crazy. When you get people
on the boat or waiting and theycan't cast and they don't know how to

(01:55:46):
set a hook, they don't knowhow to fight a fish, and then
complain because they didn't catch very manyfish. It's just not right. You're
out there doing it for the right. If you're doing it just to take
home meat, then go to thegrocery store. If you want to learn
to be a better fisherman, hirea guide. Hire a guide. And
I've said this a million times onthis program, and when I was writing

(01:56:10):
more for when I was writing forthe paper, I wrote columns about this.
If you really want to learn tobe a better fisherman yourself, hire
a guide for half a day, meet him at the docs. They don't
even bring your boat, just we'rejust gonna sit across a picnic table,
have a few beers, and you'regonna tell me when and where and how
I should fish from January through December. I want to pick your brain for

(01:56:38):
four hours, and I want tolearn from you. And I had a
couple of guys over the years whoactually would call me back after they did
that and just said, oh mygod, that was the best most educational
experience I've ever had relative to fishing, because if I've seen videos of guys,

(01:57:00):
they'll pull up on a school ofredfish and they won't even let their
customers cast. They just sling ajig out there, set a hook,
hand it to one guy, thengrab another rod, sling a jig handed
to another guy, and all thosepeople get to do is wind the fish
in. Now, that's a bigpart of it. That's fun. But
man, it's sure is more funif you get to feel that strike,

(01:57:23):
isn't it. It's sure is alot more fun if you get to feel
that strike, if you get toset that hook and feel all that resistance,
and then the line's zipping off thereel. Not for bass fishing.
Bass don't pull drag. They shouldn't. There's never any reason in the world
for a bast to pull drag offyour reel, unless you set your drag
too loose or you're using such lightline that if you're playing finesse fishermen out

(01:57:48):
in deep water, clear water orsomething like that, and you're using eight
pound tasks. Sure, but formost Texas bass experiences, I'm we off
on a tangent right here. Formost Texas bass experiences, just crank it
down and get them out of there, turn their head your way, and
get that head up big fish.I may pull real hard, but you

(01:58:09):
can usually you can usually offset thatby just lowering the rod a little bit,
taking a little bit of pressure off, and then lifting back up and
turning them. Just went down aside road there. I just skid it
off the main highway and onto agravel road right there. All right,
We're gonna take another little break here. When we get back, I'll I'll
try to come down from this soapbox. But I so want to make sure

(01:58:32):
that all of you understand the appreciationI have for professional outdoors people because I
spent thousands of hours with them.I spent thousands of hours as one and
have been blessed to fish with someof the best in this state and in
the entire country and the world. And every one of those people, man,

(01:58:54):
woman, whatever, works really hardevery day, much harder than people
realize us, and they need tobe acknowledged for that. We'll take a
little break here, We'll be rightback to Doug Pike Show on Sports Talk
seven ninety Houston sports Fan on airand on Facebook. Contact back to the
Doug Pike Show. Get welcome backthirty five on the Doug Pike Show.

(01:59:44):
Thank you for listening this morning.I certainly appreciate it. Let me go
pop into email real quick. Makesure I'm not missing anything. Nope,
I have something from bing that.UM. I might look at that later.
There's some golf information for me.There's that for me. Mojoe waited

(02:00:04):
in a while back. Good onTaylor Swift, you know, good on
Taylor Swift for having the money she'sgotten doing what she does. I was
asking to Adam, I don't didI say, did I talk on the
air about what she's worth or not? I don't think I did. Well,
he told me privately of it.Yeah, well it's not a secret.
I mean, everybody knows Taylor Swiftis worth north of a half a

(02:00:28):
billion dollars and good for her.Anything people will pay you is what you're
worth. And apparently I'm not wortha half a billion dollars yet. But
I can't sing that well, Ican't. It's way too late for me
to be a professional dancer. SoI'm gonna stay right here and enjoy talking

(02:00:49):
to you guys as often as Iget a chance, too, as often
as they'll let me, and seeif I can just make my way to
a comfortable retirement some day. Sevenon three two one, two, five
seven nine email me Dugpike and iHeartMediadot Com. I was talking to Adam
over the break too, about howpassionate I am about about the outdoors as

(02:01:12):
not just someplace I go to rechargemy batteries, but just as an industry,
and how valuable it is and howlittle people, how little many people
know about how it all works andwhat enables us to have places to go
where we can hunt or fish, where we can just go to observe wildlife,

(02:01:36):
if that's what you want to do. I don't have any quarrel with
anybody who doesn't care for fishing, doesn't care for hunting. It just keeps
them out of my way when Igo outdoors and enjoy consumptive outdoor recreation.
It's been a long time since Ikilled fishing brought them home. Been a

(02:01:57):
long time since I did a lotof things that I could have done according
to my license, but just optednot to do. I can't tell you
how many times I've gone deer huntingand never pulled the trigger, not even
on a pig. I just likesitting out in the stand, and if
I see one that needs shooting somedayout I'll shoot. But I don't have

(02:02:18):
to do that to feel better whenit's over. There's it's bitter sweet,
really, when you hear you're sittingin a deer stand all morning or all
afternoon, Right all morning, Iguess, because it's still daylight. When
you hear that truck coming, youmade it through the morning hunt. You're
safe, nobody's hurt. You've seensome deer, and believe me, in

(02:02:42):
Texas almost anywhere in Texas, ifyou sit in a deer stand somewhere,
you're gonna see more deer that morningor that afternoon than the average person sees
in the average deer stand around thecountry. We have a ridiculously large deer
population in the state of Texas, not all of them the biggest deer you'll

(02:03:06):
ever see. Granted, the HillCountry got all those little pint sized deer
running around. But even in SouthTexas where they're bigger, even in North
Texas, where they're considerably bigger thanHill Country deer, we've got a lot
of them. I talked. I'vetalked to guys from all over the country

(02:03:27):
about deer hunting in my career, and when I'll ask them, I said,
how many you got? How manydeer you guys see in an average
morning or afternoon on a stand, two sometimes three? Every now and then
we won't see any, but weknow they're out there, like Holy Cow
on a morning hunt, even beforethere's enough light to see, which is

(02:03:49):
when you should be in that standwherever you're going, at least twenty or
thirty minutes before broad day, beforethe crack of dawn, not before dawn,
not before sunrise, before the crackof dawn, even before shooting time
in a duck blind, which isthirty minutes before sunrise. There's so much
light out there, it's really betterto be forty five minutes or so in.

(02:04:13):
And I'll tell a story, agood prank you can play on somebody.
I've shared it before, but forthe newer members of the audience,
I'll tell it in a minute. But you'll hear dear walking around in Texas,
unless it's a super windy day,on a calm morning, you'll hear
deer walking around. You'll hear alot of what you think is deer walking
around, and then the light comesup and it's just a squirrel. Dear

(02:04:36):
sound about the same. They don'tmake any more noise walking through the woods
than a squirrel does. It's prettyinteresting when you think about it. Okay,
I'll give you that prank real quickbefore the break. So if you've
got somebody in the deer camp whohas earned himself or herself a prank,
or whether they earned it or not, whether you just want to play it

(02:04:57):
on him, and it's a totallytotally not embarrassing, not harmful, in
no way shape or form dangerous deal. But everybody in camp but that person
has to be in on it.So you talk that evening with everybody about
where they're gonna hunt the next morning, and you let it be known that

(02:05:18):
somebody saw a couple of big Bucksat some stand way out there somewhere,
and that's where you're gonna put thevictim of your prank in the morning,
and you or somebody else volunteers todrive them there, but you're gonna need
to get an earlier start to getall the way back there in time to

(02:05:39):
be ready for sunrise. So youthen say, okay, look, I'm
gonna come get you in the morning. I'll wake up about thirty minutes before
everybody else jumps up for breakfast. We'll grab a couple of cereal bars or
something for breakfast, bring a couplemore to eat, and stand because you

(02:06:00):
know, I want you to stayout there. And so when everybody goes
to bed, including your victim. It's a victim wears a watch, which
an older person like myself might,it's gonna be a little harder if the
victim has a phone. You haveto be a little crafty as well,
because that's that's a new element tothis prank. But the bottom line is

(02:06:20):
every clock in the camp, everywatch in the camp, every cell phone,
well that person's cell phone at leasthas to be surreptitiously moved forward about
two hours. And when you goto wake the person up, So I'm
gonna get you up at four andi'll have you in the standby four thirty.

(02:06:42):
Well, when four comes along, because all the clocks have been pushed
forward in case he looks somewhere else, it's actually only two. So what
you do is, you know, let's be real quiet, let's get out
of here. We don't want towake anybody up. Guy, it's already
four fifteen. We gotta go,man. So you make them out there
and you draw it. Of course, it's pitch dark, it's dead a

(02:07:03):
night. Two thirty in the morning. You drop them off in the stand.
They're looking at their phone and itsays four thirty. Then it says
quarter five, and holy cow,the sun's gonna be coming up any minute.
And they sit there, and theysit there, and they sit there,
and for two hours the sun doesn'tcome up. And that's when they
start thinking, wait a minute,I might have been pranked a little bit,

(02:07:24):
and but by that time you're alreadyback in camp. You've got another
two hours asleep. Everybody's starting tostir, and it's time to go on
back out and hunt. I knowfor a fact that it's been done at
least three times successfully, and Ihope it maybe next season you can pull
it on somebody else. It's kindof fun. But with the advent of

(02:07:44):
all these electronics, you gotta eventhe vehicle you're gonna be driving out in,
if it has a clock in it, you have to adjust that as
well. It all has to syncup, because if there's any even one
clock that's correct and that person seesit, then it kind of messes up
the whole deal. But man, when it works, it's a good one
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety. We're gonna take this break

(02:08:05):
right now. Email me Dougpike andiHeartMedia dot Com. I'll go through my
emails when we get and when weget back, I'll see if there's anything
worth talking about. Timber Creek GolfClub twenty three fifty one FM twenty three
fifty one down there and friends woulda great place to go. Tee it
up on a beautiful Saturday morning likeit is right now, twenty seven holes,

(02:08:26):
three nines to get people started onand they rotate them in a way
that enables them to get twice asmany people out and playing golf at the
same time as you could elsewhere. It's fantastic. It's just having those nine
extra holes is a big deal downthere. It matters for daily fee play,
it matters for tournaments where you canget more people out playing a tournament.

(02:08:48):
There's all kinds of reasons to havetwenty seven holes instead of eighteen,
and they have that at timber Creek. Lucky for you guys who are down
there and able to go to playthere, they've got a great eaching academy
right across from the big generous practicerange. They have one of the biggest
practice putting greens in the in thewhole area. Can't think of many that

(02:09:09):
would be bigger than that one.And just a bunch of good people want
you to have a good time onthe golf course. Timber Creek Golfclub dot
Com is a website. They're onFM twenty three fifty one, just a
few miles west of the Golf Freeway. Timber Creek golf club dot com.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety, breaking sports news on Facebook twenty four or

(02:09:31):
seven. We'll get that information tothem from them. This is the Doug
Pike showIn nine on Sports Talk sevenninety The Doug Pike Show. Thank you

(02:09:54):
for listening, serving to appreciate it. So I decided to rest are my
computer right as we went to breakand now all of a sudden it's working
on updates and we're darn near done. But this entire time, this thing
has been just swinging away at workingon something that I have no idea whether

(02:10:15):
I really need or not. Butby guys, it's almost done. We're
five ninety six. Come on.The anticipated anticipatory anxiety is just dreadful.
Ah, one hundred percent complete.Let's see if this works fingers crossed.
Let me slip in a little passwordhere and it'll probably work. We'll find

(02:10:39):
out seven one three, two onetwo five seven ninety got five or six
minutes to knock out before we headout. I'll remind all of you again
that Tom, although he came insecond place in the Texas Temperature Game,
one around for four, he andthree friends at Okhurst because despite his loss

(02:11:01):
to Adam who blew it out ofthe water with a total differentiation of two
differential. I guess it would beyou kind of tore Tom up, but
Tom had a seven. So thenew rule going into the textures temperature game
moving forward is that even if youlose to Adam, who is showing that

(02:11:26):
he's gotten mad skills, even ifyou lose the game, but you score
a single digit total difference in temperaturesfor the high and the low, then
you are declared a de facto winner. That's fair enough. You think that's
okay? You don't care to No, I don't mind recognition for the effort

(02:11:48):
I think is what we're doing here. It's god and I hate to do
it. But in essence, asI mentioned earlier, something I don't like.
It's kind of a participation trophy, isn't it. Well it is,
but they won the call first game, so that's true. There is that.
Yeah, we are kind of we'renot waiting around for caller number four

(02:12:09):
or five or six. And whenI did this this morning, it was
interesting because there is a seven secondI think at least delay from what I
say here until it hits your ears. And that's for good reasons. That
gives us time. If somebody wantsto try to slip in a bad word,
then I can or Adam can hitthe dump button in here, and

(02:12:33):
we just keep going. We justkeep going, and nobody's the worst for
nobody's ears are harmed in the continuedproduction of the program. But that makes
it a little awkward with the phonething, because I'm I'm living the moment.
I want to see that phone ringnow, and so it takes a

(02:12:54):
few seconds and it drives me crazy. And then all of a sudden,
right in fact, right after Tomcalled, the whole board lit up,
didn't it? Just everybody bang it? That was the most colors I've ever
seen. So yeah, well thanks, but yeah, I understand. Yeah,
well I don't take a ton ofcalls on this program. I enjoy
every one of them. And I'vesaid a thousand times more of you,

(02:13:18):
meaning you the listeners, and lessof me makes this a better program.
I want to hear what you think. I want to hear what's on your
mind. I want to know ifyou disagree with me, especially because I
find that very informative to me.I want to hear what's on your why
you disagree with me, and I'llnever yell at you. I'll never cut

(02:13:39):
you off unless you say a badword or unless you do something else like
that. Why is that that way? I don't know. I'll have to
look at that in a little while. In any event, I truly enjoy
being here and I truly enjoy doingthis show. We've got golf going on

(02:14:00):
all over the place. We havethe women's first Major on going up in
the Woodlands. We have next week, we had the Tour champions coming in
here for the Inspirity Invitational. They'vegot a great field of players coming into
I mean, these guys are somuch fun to watch. And thanks to

(02:14:20):
the generous benefactors of the tournament, general admission there is free. Just show
up, find a place to parkyour car, show up and v While
you're in, you can go wanderaround that golf course all you want at
no additional charge. Now, thereactually are hospitality options available. If you're

(02:14:43):
so inclined, you can sign upfor one of those and get yourself little
free this and free that. Ohwhat did Tim send me? Tim send
me picture? I know it's whatit's gonna be. It's gonna be a
beautiful picture. Come on, grilledOh oh, it's something he's eating this
morning. Guadalupe trout. Beautiful morningon the Guadalupe rivery grilled trout and avocado

(02:15:07):
salad. God, that sounds good. Recipe borrowed from King's Inn in Rivieria,
my new favorite breakfast. I can'tblame you, Tim, that sounds
very good. Save something for me, would you please? Oh? Yes,
this is exactly Yeah. Mojoe weighsin. When we were talking about

(02:15:28):
that little straw being used, somethingthe size of a stir stick being used
to keep soft plastics from tangling soeasily in lily pads and other vegetation,
especially in the lily pads with thoseheavy stalks. Yes, I think this
would work. Mojo wondered whether thelittle extender off of a w D forty

(02:15:50):
cam would work, And I franklywill tell you it will work a little
better if you spray just a teentiestlittle bit of w D forty into that
thing. Apparently that is kind ofan attractant to fish, believe it or
not, And that's just yet anotheruse, yet another use for WD forty.

(02:16:13):
Otherwise, most convenience shop yeah coffeebars still have stir sticks instead of
spoons and a lot of them. That's true plastic ones. That's what you
need. You can't thread your linethrough a spoon or a wooden stirstick.
That's just a little pro tip I'velearned over the years. Alan Wade and
saw a video the other day ofa kid catching a big bass with his

(02:16:37):
thumb. I've seen that, actually, I've seen it several times. It
rolled through Facebook again. I don'tknow why, but it did. And
sure enough, this kid's got abass trained to come up, and he
trained it over time somehow to comeup and take some sort of offering from
him. And then at this timehe just wiggles his thumb a couple of

(02:17:01):
times and the bass thinks it's somethingto eat. And when the bass grabs
that, he just raises his indexfinger up to grab the fish as though
he were grabbing it while it washooked on a fishing line. Very cool
stuff. I don't know what thisis from Lyle. Could have been a
prank, it says, I'm notsure. I gotta hunt you. Anything

(02:17:24):
that says could have been a prankprobably was. I'll look into that and
maybe talk about it a little bittomorrow. Music means I have to be
quiet here very shortly, so I'lltake what time I have left to remind
you all, to remind you oneand all that is way more fun to
be outdoors than indoors. This willbe a fantastic day to realize that if

(02:17:48):
you have a chance to get outsidewith your family, do something fun,
do something outdoors. Make sure youdo it safely, whatever it is,
so that you can come back tomorrowmorning at eighth. That's when I'll be
back next. Get out, forthe heaven's sakes, it's going to be
a beautiful, just first academy day. Have some fune with your family,
do it safely, and we'll we'llrendezvous again tomorrow morning. Thanks for listening,

(02:18:09):
appreciate it. Good job, Adam. Thanks is always my friend. Audios
