How many fish in our stringer, how many points on our buck, how
many feathers in our bag. That'show we keep score around here. Sportsmen
and women of all skill levels, let's disconnect from the day to day grind
and stay connected to the outdoor activitiesthat you and your family love. This
(00:28):
is the Doug Pike Show, broughtto you by American Shooting Centers Guns Shooting
at Instruction since nineteen eighty nine, and by taking Vegas dot Com over twenty
years, helping sports investors make better, more informed decisions. Now here's Doug
Pike. All right, Saturday morningedition of the program starts right now,
(00:53):
Thank you very much. I don'tknow who's in here last. It's kind
of a mess. Things go awaythe old fashioned way. Man. What
a week, huh? I thinkeverybody had. If you've got a chance
to go somewhere and do something, you pretty much got to do whatever you
(01:14):
wanted to do, wherever you wantedto go. At least it seemed that
way for me. I had opportunityto do a couple of good fun things
this week and all went well.No weather issues. I guess that's the
biggest thing we worry about around here. Is weather, especially this time of
year. We're we're not hyper focusedon the Gulf of Mexico yet, and
that's a good thing, but norcan we ignore it. I did some
(01:38):
research back during the winter, andI'm sure I've done it before over the
years I've been in this job,but came to realize once again that you
can really never turn your back. You can never turn your back on the
tropics as we that's the reference wemake to the weather or to the region
(02:00):
in which we're semi tropical climate herewe're not, We're not equatorial. But
the thing that jumped out at mewhen I went looking for it, and
I was kind of hoping I'd bewrong, but that it was that that
there have been named storms in everymonth of the year, named storms,
(02:21):
and this is Atlantic and Gulf ofMexico stuff, named storms, and every
month of the year. So whilstI don't routinely look at anything like that
right now, the only reason Ibring this up, and I guess it's
I don't know why, frankly, except that you just have to start watching.
Is there anything on the horizon,Nope? Is there anything probably going
(02:45):
to come up in this entire month, Nope? And I'm hoping I'm right.
Well, we'll add one of thosejust to be sure. But just
keep an eye on what does happenthis time of year. Is you get
out there and you get to havingfun, and you a little darkness on
the horizon, and there was thatthirty percent chance of thunderstorms that the weather
(03:06):
man talk about, but you ignoreit because it's been beautiful all day,
and we get ourselves stuck in placeswe shouldn't be. When the weather falls
apart on us. Oh that thing'sway over on the horizon. We've got
we got at least an hour andfifteen minutes later, the temperature drops about
(03:28):
ten degrees, the wind shifts onehundred and eighty degrees and starts really blowing
and pulling toward that big black linein the sky. That's time to go.
And I guess the safety sally inme just says, get off the
water if you can, and ifyou can't get off the water, at
(03:51):
least go hide behind an island somewhere, get something to get behind, find
something to get behind them. Allright, I don't know. I have
absolutely no idea. I have alittle list of notes. You see this
at him, all that I haveall that in front of me and not
in any and this was my prepI did this morning for a little talking
points and whatnot, and not anywhereon that piece of paper because it say
(04:15):
talk about storms, not anywhere.I had no intention whatsoever to go to
the going to that, but somehowI did. So there you have it.
I got a good morning message.I've got Oh. I did talk
to a guy yesterday and I'm hopinghe decalls. We talked, Michael.
We talked for probably well, weexchanged emails three four maybe I don't know,
(04:41):
but he's kind of green to beachfrontand jetty fishing and was quizzing me
about that. He's got his kidsgoing with him this morning and if he
gets down there, Oh'll see whatis this? Oh yeah, this is
from yesterday. This is at tenpm. We're still having conversations online about
how to feel used to surfside Jetty, how to fish the piers in Galveston,
(05:03):
and I'm hoping that they actually dogo down there. They were planning
on it this morning and I can'tsee anything in the forecast that would would
negate that. I'm looking. Letme get back to it. It will
be real there we go. I'mlooking currently at the sixty first Street pier
live video from Saltwater Recon and thereare just tiny little waves moving onto the
(05:30):
beach. I'm gonna flip over thehold on. I want to flip cameras
real quick. I want to gotake a look down at surfside stand by
Surfside beach, That's what I wanted. I'm kind of curious to see if
there's anybody in the water this morning, because it does look pretty good,
and I think the color is notbad either. Yesterday late, yesterday afternoon
late, I took a look andoh, never mind, nobody's out in
(05:55):
that. Holy cow, it mustbe much windier down at Surfside than it
is in Galveston. And I'll checkthat in just a second too. Let's
see. Yeah, fifteen fourteen inGalveston. That's enough to bump it up
worse than it is. The onlything I can figure is that the camera
(06:15):
angle at sixty first Street is fartheroff shore, and it's not reflecting the
actual wave activity on the beach, because it's not that terribly windier down towards
Surfside. Not in the least tenthere's a fourteen down around Mattagorda eighteen seventeen
down in Corpus where it's this station. South Bird Island's fifteen, so roughly
(06:41):
roughly ten to eighteen miles an hour. We'll call it along the Texas coast
this morning, which isn't horrible, but it's dead on shore. So the
good news is that will push cleanerwater towards the beach front. The bad
news if it's if the tide's low, and if the waves are getting slammed
up onto the bars like that, they'll break it up and churn it up
(07:04):
and make it not pretty. Weneed a southeast at like eight to ten
for two days to really pretty upthat surf, and man, once it
does, it's gonna be it shouldbe time to start catching about as many
trout as you want out of thesurf. They're plenty of fish in the
bay system. There are plenty offish. I'm gonna be in in that
(07:25):
surf once we can get out thereand get after him. I've already heard
from a few people who have caughta few fish in the surf, and
I got a suspicion knowing some ofthe guys that I'm thinking about, like
I do that. They're just nottelling me anything yet because they don't want
me talking about it. But Iknow from fifty years of experience. Oh
(07:45):
my gut, how old am I? From fifty years of being more than
that of being legal to drive tothe beach about man somewhere in mid April
starts to kick off pretty good, like down around the surfside jetty out on
the Galvison jetty. She'll start seeingmore fish. And so here we are
(08:05):
in May, first week of May, and yeah, it's gonna be on
water temperatures. I finally found asite I really like for coastal water temperatures.
It actually, it actually gives manyreadings. Oh, it didn't take
me straight to the interactive map.Let's go, that's the one I wanted
to bookmark, not this. Waita minute, there it is. That's
(08:28):
the one I booked marked, bookmarked, which shows me pretty much every
water temperature and from oh gosh, all the way down to the Cayman Islands,
holy cow, not quite that far, but around there, and then
all the way up the East coastthrough Maine, all the way around the
Gulf Coast there are many many reportingstations, and then even up in Alaska.
(08:52):
I'll give you a pop quiz.I'll give you a warm up quiz.
Adam okay, just to let's justsee how stute you are. What
would you guess to be the watertemperatures up in Alaska right now? It's
just a ballpark or range like tento thirty degrees ten degree water is ice
(09:13):
at them? Oh, I guessyou're right. Well, yeah, the
ice floats, you know, Butthen again, it's not water, is
it. If it's floating, it'sI and thirty three degrees. That's close.
That's not bad. Yeah, it'saround that up to about maybe I
think forty one was the highest watertemperatrip there, most of them in the
mid thirties. That wasn't a badguess, man, I would I did
(09:35):
this trip years ago over to Swedenand we go climbing out onto the Baltic
Sea. Well, it's not climbingbut boating onto the Baltic Sea chasing salmon,
which I learned on the way outtalking to the captain of this little
boat we were on that had beennearly completely fished out by commercial fishermen.
(09:58):
They had started. He said asa young man they could go out there
and catch salmon any day they wantedto, basically, and now they could
go days sometimes without even getting asingle bite. And today we went was
one of those days. Actually,we puttered around the Baltic Sea for I
don't know how many hours, andjust nothing happened. Nothing happened except I
(10:22):
got duped into I'll tell this storybecause I have about two and a half
minutes and I can do it inthat time, oh very quickly. The
water temperature there was like three degreescelsius. And you are mandated, is
required that you wear a survival suitand zip it all up when you go
out there, so you get hotin a survival suit that's going to protect
(10:43):
you from almost frozen water. Nonetheless, I get out there, so it's
hot. It's warm anyway, andespecially inside that suit. Said, hey
man, you got any water onthis boat? And I've told this story
before, so forgive me if you'veheard it. He goes, no,
I have beer. Adam hasn't hurtit, So that's what I'm telling you.
He says, No, I gotbeer. I said, no,
no, no, I don't needa beer, right, I'm cool.
(11:05):
I just need a bottle of water. That'd be great. All I have
to drink on this entire boat isbeer. Okay, I'll take a few
SIPs of a beer. And inSweden they have three different grades of alcohol
content in beer. There's the lowestgrade, which you can drink and still
drive. There's that middle grade, which is kind of like what we've got
(11:28):
here, and then there's this premiumI guess you'd call it, and it's
like doing shots of jager Moister. And that's what he's got on the boat.
And he says, sure, I'llgrab you a can. And he
reaches in and he brings out thisthing that is the size of a coffee
can, like an old time oilcan. If you're not old enough to
(11:52):
remember, buy an oil by thecourt. But that's what it looks like.
And he gets out this old schoolchurch key, pops it on both
sides, says, here you go. So I'm on the Baltic Sea.
It's nearly dead, calm, it'swarm. I'm sweaty. I want to
I want to. I want toquench my thirst. And so I drink
(12:13):
a few SIPs, and then Idrink a few more SIPs, and then
within twenty minutes I am lit uplike a Christmas tree. I'm like,
holy cow, this is some prettypowerful stuff. Man Captain Spinn or whatever
his name was, Oh my god. It was all I could do to
(12:33):
get off the boat. When wefinally got back to the dock and there
were a couple of our other guys. Theres man, you don't have your
sea legs under you. It wasso calm. How come you're also wobbly?
Said this the beer and I hada big smile on my face,
and holy cow, that was anexperience. Seven one three two one two
(12:54):
five seven ninety. Email me Dugpikeat iHeartMedia dot com. I'll get to
my Saturday notes when we come backfrom this break, because I do have
a couple of things I want toget to. And of course we will
play the Texas Champerature game and givesomebody some free golf hopefully, and what
else will we do? I'm notsure. We'll see how this goes.
Oh, I caught a wild animalagain yesterday, Adam. If you can
(13:16):
guess what, I'm not even gonnalet you guess till we get back.
I caught a wild animal. That'sall I'm gonna say. And on the
way out, I'll tell you aboutblack Horse, I will say something about
that place. I love that place. I do. I've I've played it
I don't know how many dozens oftimes, and every time I go up
there, whether I'm playing the NorthCourse or the South Course, I've always
(13:39):
left there kind of with a smileon my face, even if I shot
a bad score. There's always somebodydriving around to bring you a little water
or whatever else kind of beverage youwant. While you're playing your game of
golf. There are people there whocan fix your swing down at the far
end of the range if you wantto hit the ball Australia and farther there
(14:01):
are people there who can help youput on a giant tournament, or just
gather a few of your buddies andgo over there and get in line and
jump on. Almost every day becausethey have those two courses, it's pretty
easy for them to get a lotof players out and today would not be
any exception. I'd be willing tobet you could go to the the online
(14:22):
tsheet at black Horse Golf Club dotcom and make yourself a tea time before
noon today. They're on Fri Road, just a little way south of two
ninety. Go up there, andhave some fun, play some golf.
Black Horse Golf Club dot com. That's Blackhorse Golf Club dot com. Your
rockets and astros live here. Weare Sports Talk seven ninety. The conversation
(14:43):
continues. This is the Dougpike Show. Come on at him. You can
do it. I know you can. I'm sorry, I might have to
hunt us on quit on you.The computer is weird whistle a happy tune.
That's good, all right, Welcomeback the Doug Bike Show on Sports
(15:05):
Talk seven ninety. Figure that out, man, What is going on?
Cracker Jack? He's usually just Johnnyon the spot with great rejoin music.
We've introduced classical music to our repertoire, and country music and all these other
musics. And then we got thewhistling troubadour on that one. I don't
know where that came from. Holycow, man. I'm trying to see
(15:30):
if there's anything. Oh, let'ssee. Oh no, somebody send me
a brag picture again. Oh okay, at least there's not a fish in
it. There is sargassomweed all overthe beach though in this picture that Mike
sent, and that reminds me ofsomething I need to tell you guys.
There are two, count them, two good uses worldwide now for sargassomweed.
(15:54):
And I talked about him on fiftyplus, but I'll tell you very quickly
about him here and then we'll getinto the phones. One is, there
was a man in Mexico, agardener who loved the beach and loved going
to the beach and just enjoyed everythingabout it except the sargassom weed that kept
washing up onto it. And heforward thinking, idea founded guy. He
(16:22):
loved thinking big, and he lookedat that stuff and he started working with
that stuff. And what he didwas ended up making bricks out of sargassom
weed that have been actually approved forconstruction down there. And so this nasty,
vile stuff that ends up on thebeach and they take it to the
garbage dumps by the ton and tonand ton is now being converted into building
(16:48):
material. That same week, itwas not this past week, but the
week before, I think when Ifound that story, there was a related
story about a guy who about aguy who came up with a way to
turn that stuff into a plastic wrapthat is also compostable. So there you
(17:10):
go, All right, let mejump up here with Mike real quick,
and then it's gonna be rick andlisten, Michael, how man, you
guys made it to the beach yetwe're all the way sir? All right?
So how many how many souls onboard? I got five? Oh
my lord, you want to catchsomething? I got my third guy,
(17:33):
my third figure on twits and they'rebest friend and then my boody driving right
now. All right, So youguys are loaded for bear, aren't you.
Oh yeah, good for you man. All right, well, yeah,
it's a little party early. Hey, where do we go? You
know? And uh we'll take itfrom there. You wonder where you're wondering
(17:56):
where to go? Yeah, sowe're gonna surfside yeddy. Okay, okay,
well go back and read my emailsagain. Yeah, okay, Yeah,
it's about all you need to go. And just stay off that crowd
at the end. They're all downthere throwing live bait and they all think
they owned the jetty. That's whatI got what I need to hear from.
(18:17):
Yeah. I used to love goingdown there, and I would I
would walk right down there because I'ma pretty decent caster, and there'd be
some guy down there were like sevenrods out and one two guys they got
seven rods, and they're taking upforty yards of space basically with all their
junk. And I would go walkright between two of their rods and make
(18:38):
a cast when I knew pretty muchwhat was going on down there, and
just plug speckled trout right out frombetween them because they were there were fishing
too shallow, and instead of notinstead of letting the bait get down where
and my lures would get on downto where the trout were before they could
even figure out how to re rig. It was so fun to mess those
guys up. Never never crossed one. If we want to for the drought,
(19:03):
what don't you recommend we use itas well? Bit Wise, you'd
you'd have to go get a bankloan and get some live bait and figure
out make sure you got a wayto keep it alive. It's not cheap
anymore, but yeah, that's gonnagreatly increase your chances. And try to
fish it as deep under a corkas you can manage to rig it,
either with a slip cork or justsome sort of a rig. You need
(19:26):
for that live bait to be aboutat least five or six feet somehow below
that cork for those trout out atthe jetties to be to be really effective.
Or you can, if you canhold your nose and be willing to
lose a couple of rigs, youcan put it on like maybe a piece
of split shot, and just castit as far as you can, let
it drift a little bit with thecurrent and sink natural a little more naturally
(19:48):
anyway, and they'll they'll find it. Just keep it off the rocks,
all right, all right, yeah, please do Yeah, I want to
know how you guys do. Thanks, we'll see him. Audios. All
right, let me see if Ican manipul Oh, thank you for the
assist there, Adam, Now therewe go. Thanks. Hey, Rick,
what's up in man? Just abeautiful day? Just how big was
(20:11):
that bash? Your son of thisstate? Buddy? How big was that
bash? Your sun caught? Estimated? Way? Well they waited him on
search face pound two? Two?Wow? What a beast? Good for
him, man, I haven't caughta ten pound a long time. Well,
(20:33):
I've never caught one. You're gettinganyway. I was going to comment
on that, you know, hesent me that that I a forwarded to
you. Yeah, and you know, of course, I immediately we're in
a group text, okay, andI'm immediately fired back and I said,
hey, what'd you catch you mom? And I thought my first thought was
(20:53):
he's gonna say a minno, justjacket with me. And he says,
he just sent me a Miley face. No, come on your own.
I fired back at him. Isaid, hey, let me ask you
something. I said, remind meagain, who's who taught you how to
(21:17):
fish? Anyway? Yeah, nokidding. So finally he sent it.
He responded and he said in thegroup tex he said, okay, guys,
I'm fixing to tell my dad whatI caught it on. So within
twenty four hours, the whole worldwas not oh yep, bro about right,
you know. Anyway, he calledme him, and I thought this
(21:40):
was interesting. I never heard ofHe was in twenty two foot of water
and he was using a care linerrig, but behind the care liner rig
he had another bait and I'd neverheard of it. But I think he
called it a Simko something. It'sa worm, Okay, I didn't know
(22:03):
that. I've never even kind ofa brand name. And I asked him,
I said, well, which onecalled him and I hadn't heard back.
So yeah, there's all kinds ofconcoctions and ways you can tag tag
team lures and stuff. I don'thave that kind of time to be tying
all those knots, man. Iwant to fish. I just chunk something
(22:23):
out there and keep wine. Andit's it's interesting too, how how younger
people are so protective and secretive ofall this stuff when there really aren't any
There aren't any big secrets. Andif you're in the right place and you
get that bait down in front ofthat fish, it's gonna eat. It's
gonna eat. I'm with you.If he's hungry, he gonna go for
(22:45):
it. Uh. One other things. You know what the day is now?
Let's day is the Kentucky dirt.Oh, I know, I know.
My my interest level is low though, to be perfectly honest, well,
it's one thing that gets me isfired up when there being the freakness
in the belmontin or somebody contending forthe Triple crown. You know, I
(23:08):
keep up with it for a differentreason. When I was younger and a
lot lighter, I used to exercisein jockey horses. And I'm going to
tell you something if there is untilyou've done it, uh, and you're
(23:29):
your trainer pulls you in that thatleaves that horse in that post position game.
And he said, all right, now this time, let him run.
This ain't an exercise, you know, let him gonna let him run.
And then you got another horse usuallywhere we did it, that being
another horse about two two gates down, so they spread them out so they
(23:52):
won't bump. Yeah. And whatI will tell you when you when they
leads you in there, that feelof that trim, of that power you're
setting on him. You better behanging on, Bud, because I've been
left in the shoot mini Fami overthe back of Dame horses. You know,
I was thinking about that when youwere saying it has got to be
(24:12):
Those horses know that when that gateopens, they're expected to take off.
And I'll bet the acceleration on thatis just like any sports car you can
ever imagine. It's gotta be cool. No nobody can really realize the talent
of his jockey at that level.Yeah, And I will tell you this,
and all all of my life, there's one sound that I will never
(24:37):
forget. And I cherished the sound, and that good and us when when
that horse hits a full of stridewhich is only seconds. Yeah. Yeah.
The sound of especially two horses, that that thunder and roar of their
(25:02):
hoofs hitting that track. Oh man, that's gotta be just really cool.
Ah h. And if you wantto, if if you want to know
what I'm talking about, go watchthe movie, uh Secretariat, Yeah in
the Belmont the run where he wonabout got a real big like on that
horse. And uh, just listeningto that that that that thudden thunder under
(25:29):
you, just nothing but raw power. Yeah, it's fast, insane,
man, insane, that's all goingon. I gotta I got a tip
for you, an idea for youif if you're if you caught a big
bass a day and you sent thepicture to your son and he sent back,
what did you catch him on?You know what you tell him?
May the sixth? Hey? Thathow much I'll learn talking to you?
(26:00):
All right, this is like goingto school man, Well for me too,
it really is. I learned somuch from all you guys. Just
starts. Just don't start start talkingnouns and pronouns and math. We'll be
all right. Now, we're good. We're gonna wait from all that.
No, we're not up into thathere. Math yes, because you have
to links and links and weights. We'll talk about That's about it, all
(26:23):
right, man, Thanks Rick,Yes, sir, audios. What a
fun dude. Man, I justthought about that, and that's what I'm
going to start using. Hey man, what'd you catch him on May six?
You like that, Adam? Yeah, it's a dug pick original,
it is. I think I've neverheard anybody use that expression before. To
use the date, and then they'regonna have to carefully craft their questions.
(26:45):
As soon as they craft a newquestion to figure out what I was throwing,
I'm gonna come up with a newanswer. So take that. Just
don't waste your time. We gota million of them. American Shooting Centers
doesn't have a million, but theydo have two hundred plus shooting stations.
This is the range that's out offWest Timer Parkway between Katie and Highway six.
(27:07):
It's been there since the eighties.I was there as a young reporter
when the ground was broken for theplace. I wasn't there when Ed Origi
took over the property, but I'mso glad he did now because he has
greatly improved that facility which already wasgood. Currently three sporting clay's courses currently
(27:34):
rifle and pistol from five yards outto six hundred yards. They have got
five stands setups all over the place. There's a separate area for trap and
skeet. They have a beginner's wingshooting area. They have a silhouette pop
up target range for rim fire shootingout to two hundred and fifty yards.
(27:55):
And they have instructors in every oneof the shooting disciplines to help you get
better at enjoying the shooting sports,or better at hunting. If you want
to start bringing home more birds ormaking sure you don't take bad shots at
deer. Whatever you're like in theshooting sports, they've got somebody who can
make you like it even more. That's what it comes down to. American
(28:21):
Shooting Centers dot Com is a website, a very safe, very fun,
very easy to use. It's likean amusement park for shooting enthusiasts, only
probably a whole lot safer than mostof those. American Shooting Centers dot Com.
(29:00):
Welcome back the Doug Pike Show onSports Talk seven ninety The classical Rejoin
Peter and the wolf. No,yes, what close? It's uh Rimsky
Korsakov's the Czar's Bride. Yeah, that was real close and not really Russian
Corsikov. Yeah, I guess yeah, close enough, close enough for somebody
(29:22):
who hasn't really studied any classical musicand wigh lots of years. I'll just
say that. I'll say that Itook some cultural education courses and I'm glad
I did. Actually I got tolook at some of that stuff and at
least be exposed to it. Youknow, It's it's not like you have
to just eat it up. Butif you listen to it and you take
(29:47):
some sort of even if you justget online and read up on composition and
music and stuff, it can takeyou to a place that it's really kind
of interesting and fascinating to me.I'm I'm an insatiable learner. I like
to know what's going on. Ilike to dig in and research stuff.
(30:10):
Well, speaking of, I've gota deadline for Saltwater Sportsman looming over my
head right now. I just wentback to the email to double check to
make sure I had plenty of time. And while I have time, it's
not plenty. I'll just leave itat that seven one three two one two
five seven ninety Email me Dougpike atiHeartMedia dot com. Alan sent me an
(30:30):
email a little while ago. Can'treally do much with the show today because
he is going to I think itis an orientation, Yes, orientation with
I believe it's a daughter and correctme if I'm wrong, Alan, But
high school for the Performing and VisualArts. So another brilliantly talented young entertainer
of some sort off to high school. That's awesome. I really like that.
(30:53):
Oh good, I want to talkabout this for sure. What's up,
Kevin. How's it going down there? I'm good. I'm driving to
Freeport, Um, getting ready togo take care of the kids. We've
got the Freeport take a child fishingtournament going on there this morning. Indeed,
you do? You know that's ifMichael gets to the beach and just
(31:15):
doesn't like what he sees at surfside, Jetty, he might just want to
loop around and come back down tothe park. Huh. Yeah, come
check it out. It's something tojust just to see all the kids lined
up at the dead end of theOld River there and the boy yeah,
and Freeport. It's um, there'llbe kids elbow to elbow, fishing for
(31:36):
fIF fishing for two hours, tryingto catch the big fish and the most
fish. What's what's on average thebiggest fish that wins down there. Last
year, there was a black drumthat was caught that was around the eight
or nine pounds. Oh, that'sthat's perfect. That one one of the
h categories, and I think thatwas probably that was the younger kids,
and that was actually the most weightof anybody, even the older you know,
(32:00):
honestly, that's a good sized fishfor a kid's place like that doesn't
tear up their equipment, doesn't scarethem to death. It's not like you're
bringing in some sea monster, becausethat might have a different effect on some
of those kids. That's perfect. There have been a few that have got
some drum that were in Oh lord, Unfortunately it's not a legal fish,
(32:22):
so we gonna tell them I'm sorry. It's a nice catch, but we'll
take a picture of it. Yeah, you with it, and we have
to let it go. Cender back. That's I've released almost I'd say probably
ninety nine percent of the fish I'vecaught in the last ten years over released.
Yes, sir, it's fun man. I like fishing. I do.
I just it's an insatiable thing forme and even my son now I
(32:45):
think I spoiled him a little bitearly on, unfortunately, Kevin. But
and so he'll he'll pick up arod every now and then with me,
or we'll go make a fishing tripout of town somewhere. But when I'm
at the golf course, if I'mif I'm not playing really good golf that
day and things aren't going my way, I'll I'll leave. I'll take my
(33:07):
golf glove off. I've already ifI'm on that course, I've already got
at least two rods, a bagof spinner baits, a box of hard
bats, and some other stuff, and I'll just start fishing wherever I am.
Do you take a two piece rodor do you have no? Oh
no, no, I'm I'm loadedfor bear Man. No two piece rod
(33:30):
for old women and children. Holycow, let's see. I bet it
looks kind of funny with the golfback going down the grid, well,
you know, out of the topof it. Because some of the people
who've been playing golf, they're verya very long time. Either A have
got young kids now or B havejust have tripped over me when I was
actually catching a really nice fish.I didn't know they were fishing this lake,
(33:53):
and I'm look, it's a twentyacre lake they're fishing it. Yeah,
I've actually caught a nice fish fromfishing from um golf course. You
just gotta make sure you get permissionor you can outrun the guy coming out
to run you off. I've doneboth for my life. I've caught croppy,
bass and catfish all out of golfcourse bonds. It's it's amazing.
(34:15):
You never know what it's going tobe stopped in some of them. In
this one lake, actually saw akid yesterday catch a black drug or a
freshwater drum Um. I've caught bass, croppie and catfish also, but in
all on lures. Even the croppieI've caught on spinner bates, a little
eight down spinner bates and very smallcrank mats uh. And we've also caught
(34:36):
a grinnel in that lake. It'sit's it's pumped by the river, the
Brazis River, So when they whenthey're running those pumps full speed, there's
no telling what's gonna get sucked throughthere. But yeah, it's fun.
Man, it's fun. I getexcited. So how many kids a couple
of hundred today? You think, well, well, um, I would
that the weather is going to bebeautiful. Yeah, and it's not the
(34:59):
wind and really too bad. SoI'm probably guessing we've had anywhere upper three
hundred and fifty to four hundred kidsin the in the years that the weather
conditions have been optimal, and I'mprobably looking for us to have close to
that today. Wow. And there'sno admission fee or anything like that,
right, No, it's UM.Actually two cans of kings and then those
(35:22):
go to the local food pantry thatfeet feet people in need here in Brazoria
County. UM. And then thesame UM it's called the Dream Center center
down here that the canned goods goto. And UM Dream Center also has
a program called Operation Backpack back backpackshome with kids on the weekend that don't
(35:45):
have food that they had to eaton the weekend. All the people on
their way down there, all thepeople on their way down there, I'm
gonna give them a little pro tip. Stop by the grocery store by four
cans of corn. Donate two ofthem to the cause. Don't the other
two in a ziplog bag, puta bunch of vanilla extract on it,
and when you get there, justsling that stuff out in front of you
(36:06):
and you'll have every fish in thecounty in there. You know, there's
usually not a shortage of fishing inthe end of the river. That's great.
I'm sure. It's like always wonderwhere do all these piggies come from?
God, I know, how howcan there be that many? You
know, I know it's it's well, it's a rock shore line, so
(36:27):
there's a lot of vegetation and stuffon the rock shore line and little little
little um small marine animal creatures. So they've got something, yes, sir,
something all right, Kevin, Andyou throw on a fresh shrimp there
they're ready to eat. And yeah, baby, all right, thanks Kevin.
I appreciate it. Man. Goodluck with the tournament today. It
looks like you got perfect weather forit. Have a great weekend. Yeah,
(36:49):
give me an update tomorrow, doyou mind? And not at all?
Well, yeah, let's follow up. Okay, thank you so much,
all right, buddy, all right, holy cow man, we made
it all the way to the breakand that was that was a call to
take for that. I was soglad to see that. And Michael,
if you're listening, I still thinkyou guys will be fine down there at
the serf side, Jetty. Idon't have any quarrel at all with you
guys going on down there and justkind of rig up like I was talking
(37:14):
about, and see if you can'tget some bites, you should. I
can't imagine why you wouldn't. Thereshould be all kinds of little small to
medium sized fish roaming that beach frontdown there off the rocks. That'll be
good, all right, we gottatake a break on the way out.
I'll tell you about the boatyard downon FM five eighteen in Kima. They
(37:37):
have a great selection of new andpre owned boats down there, and you
can drive if you've got a boatthat you want to sell, and you
can get it over to the boatyard. They'll put it out there for you,
and then they'll take a little piecewhen it sells. That's only fair
because you get to just instead ofin your own driveway or rolling up the
door on a storage stall somewhere, you get that boat you have for sale,
(38:00):
facing five eighteen, right out therewhere everybody who drives up and down
that road can see it, andthere are a lot of people driving up
and down that road who might wantthat boat. They have to Hot Sue
Outboards over there. They've had themfor quite some time now, up to
two hundred and fifty horses. ToHotsu is not a well known brand in
the States just yet, but theyare making in roads daily as they make
(38:25):
people happy, one boat at atime. To Hot Sue Outboards Ask ask
JT about the history of to HotSue. He'll help you out, and
just get online and look them up. You can do the same with the
boat you are. They do servicedown there. They've got a seasonal maintenance
package that's really good more towards theend of the year when you might not
be using the boat as much aswinner sets back in. But the best
(38:47):
thing you can do is just startby making a trip down there, walk
around, ask them what they do, how they do it, how long
it'll take to get something done. They have electronics, they've got trolling motors,
they've got anything and everything, stereosif you want music to make your
boat more your boat and not justanother boat on the water. Eagles Boatyard
(39:08):
dot Com is a website. EaglesBoatyard dot com on the goal with Iheartradiot.
The conversation continues, this is theDoug Pike Show man, amim's have
(39:31):
coming gone since I wandered from myWelcome Back to the Doug Pike Show on
Sports Talk seven ninety. I don'tknow much, but I know that's not
Chaikovsky or Chopin or Beethoven or bachWar any of them. It was close.
(39:52):
It's Bob will Yo. Yeah, that was my next guest dog on
it Permojo's request of take care ofpeople who take care of us. Going
back very quickly, I will havesome notes in here from during the week
on fifty plus, and I sawone of them that caught my eye after
(40:12):
the discussion I had with Rick earlierabout his son not wanting to tell him
what lure was used to catch abig bass. The big science story one
of the big science stories this weekactually included a new type of AI artificial
intelligence, which is it's a slipperyslope. I actually just finished writing a
(40:34):
column on artificial intelligence for Texas FishingGame, and I want to say it's
not going to hit print until Ithink July maybe, but nonetheless it's gonna
be there. And the reason I'mbringing all of this up is because this
new type of AI, and Ijust saw this two days ago, I
(40:57):
think might be able to read people'sminds. Are you ready for that,
Adam? No, No one needsto read my mind. No, I'm
with you. It's none of anybody'sbusiness. And I think if if that
technology ever is is presented and isfactually accurate enough to be reliable, that's
(41:21):
gonna probably end up just messing upthe whole world forever. Because people's private
thoughts are their own private thoughts, and that should be just an eternal truth.
But if you ever have to asksomebody what lure they caught that bass
on, that'd be nice to flipthat machine, Hey why did you catch
(41:43):
that thing on? In the background, he's here computer warming up, and
you point some little thing at him, and hey, what'd you catch them
on? I don't know, Andthat's not what your brain's saying. I
think that's kind of I hope thatthe people in the world who are developing
(42:04):
this stuff realize how potentially dangerous itis. Imagine imagine a meeting of two
world leaders. Okay, imagine ameeting of the United Nations, and everybody
in there being able to read themind of everybody else in there. There
(42:25):
would that would not end well,I don't think, and I'm just glad
I'll be gone before that happens. So honestly, holy cow seven one three
two one two five seven ninety emailme dougpiket iHeartMedia dot Com. I mentioned
I caught a wild animal yesterday,Adam, for all the money in the
world in the camp or what wasthat animal? Raccoon? Oh god,
(42:47):
no, I'm not gonna grab araccoon. He'd bite me. And he
didn't say it with your hands. No, I caught it with my hands.
I didn't say, we're not talkingabout a fish on a hook.
Okay, then I'll say a ratsnake. Yes, absolutely, that's a
that's a safe bet. If Icaught an animal with my hands, it's
not a fish, it's almost alwaysgoing to be a snake. And rat
(43:10):
snake is actually the right answer. It's about wasn't a giant it was?
It was not nearly so large asthe one I caught it riverbend a few
years ago that one was affect. It's my screen saver on my screen.
Here, let me look at it, and I'll make a perfectly accurate.
Guess. Yeah, this thing isalmost as tall as I am, and
it's very close to six feet long. The beautiful, big old snake.
(43:35):
The one yesterday was only maybe aboutthree feet I don't want to I know
it wasn't four feet long, butit also wasn't two feet anything. So
there you have it. Oh lord, I'm looking at a picture that Tim
posted from late last night. Iguess nothing like getting run out of the
fish. They're on a bay somewheresomehow by a guided miss destroyer and a
(44:00):
kid with and he used his kidto describe the sailor on the front of
the Coastguard vessel escorting that missile destroyer, locked and loaded fifty cal Yeah,
I don't blame you. Those guysare They don't know who anybody is,
and they're trained to react to anythingcoming anywhere near their ship as a threat,
(44:27):
and that's what they do. Whaton earth is that I'm looking at?
Seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety Email me Dougpike at iHeartMedia
dot com. All these pictures ofall these people going to all these cool
places when really it's pretty good here. Now there's one guy follow on Facebook
because I fished with him a fewtimes down in Florida, and that guy
(44:50):
is as good as they get downthere. His name is Jeff Page.
He spells his name Geoff Jeff Page. And if you want to see what
it's like to be a fish himand down there in u in southeast Florida,
pop his page up sometime and takea look. What a great guy
too. He's what he I wouldput him in the in the level of
(45:12):
any of the best guides around here, all the way from from Cliff down
south up to Mickey and James andBlaine and Darryl and tent Holy cow.
I don't want to forget anybody allthe Matta Gorda guys I fished with,
and he's he is on that leveljust over there in Florida. And the
(45:34):
only difference between him and our guysaround here in a brief snapshot from yesterday,
is that he's not holding a speckledtrout by the lips. He's holding
a tarpin probably I'm guessing that fishprobably about seventy five eighty pounds. I
don't see I don't think even youknow. He doesn't even talk about it
in the in the text um belowthe picture, but there you have it,
(45:55):
just briefly patting on the back ofan old friend from down there.
I made good friends of several peopledown there in the times I was running
down and fishing with Martin Nichols anddoing all that, and I'm so glad
I did, because to this daywe still kind of stay in contact,
and at some point I'm gonna getmy son down there to experience at least
(46:17):
as much of it as he can. Of what I got to do down
there. It was awesome. Itreally was three foot rats snake yesterday that
was also out at the golf coursealso. Actually there were my son and
I and two of the kids whowork out there. We're just sitting there
comparing nodes on fishing, and oneof them just casually goes, hey,
there's a snake. And there itwas just shining like a diamond on very
(46:44):
short grass, moving trying to getfrom one place to the other. And
I hopped out of the cart andran over there and snatch him up.
It took me about four tries.I'm getting I'm getting kind of whimpy.
I think in my attempts I've caughta good enough number of snakes that if
I don't catch them, it's kindof okay, but I still was was
(47:07):
determined to do that. Captain Scottjust sent me a picture of his resident
coach whip. And if you've neverseen a coach whip snake, there are
very cool looking animals, very sleekand as most snakes are, but I
think I think the coach whip mightbe a next level of sleekness, if
that's a term we can use. They're just a good looking snake. They
(47:30):
don't look mean. They're just goodlooking, all right, kind of like
me, huh gone or the days. All right, we're gonna take a
little break here in the top Bellvillemeat Market. I've been telling you about
that for so long, and Ihope you've gone out there. I truly
do. I hope you've gone outthere. Belleville Meat Market has two dozen

have wild game processing year round. You bring them in something you took legally,
they will process it for you howeveryou want. You can actually bring
out frozen quarters of deer. Youdecided you probably weren't going to be able
(48:16):
to get around to processing yourself, and you just throw those whole quarters in
the freezer out in the garage, take them out to Belleville Meat Market.
Let them turn it into vinny dogsor hog dogs with a little pork from
one of your pigs. You've shotspecials right now, Center cut pork shops
two ninety nine pound now serving homemadehot dogs, had pulled pork and our
(48:37):
barbecue set up. Yah. Well, that's nice to know. I might
have to drive out for just someof that fresh ground beat three fifty nine
pound you buy ten pounds or more, and those fresh fryers at a buck
ninety nine a pound. This week'sspecial, this double feature sausage you can
try before you buy. And I'lltell you once again as you put the

save you a little time. Greenonion pecan smoke sausage or three cheeses pecan
smoke sausage. That's good stuff, good stuff. Belleville Meatmarket dot com is

window and then drive around to yoursmell smoke, barbecue smoke, m delicious
barbecue smoke, and then just followyour nose to Belleville Meat Market. Belleville
Meatmarket dot Com, KBMS, Houstonkt D D two Houston My Heart Radios,

(49:45):
again. This is four feet fromthe Carbingo dot Com studios. This is
the Doug Pike Show, brought toyou buy American Shooting Centers, guns,
shooting at instruction since nineteen eighty nineand by taking Vegas dot com or twenty
(50:08):
years helping sports investors make better, more informed decisions. Now here's Doug Pike.
Second hour starts now. Thank youall so very very much for listening.
I really do appreciate it. Wehave got Well, I'll tell you
what David's been holding on there forsince right before we went to the break,
(50:29):
so I don't want to leave himthere another second, Dave, what's
up many? Well, I wentyesterday and got my second shingle shot.
What do you just need a wholenew roof? At this point, I
think, no, my shingle shot. I know, I know what you
mean. But hey, my buddyMarrion he was telling me, he said,
(50:52):
man, that second one's gonna probablyknock you down. And yeah,
I didn't sleep too good last night, so I want to I'm gonna lay
down and listen to the Risk Yourshow. But hopefully by eleven o'clock I'll
be all ready to go because SaintRose Alima's going to have their bizarre and
uh, there'll be a lot oflisteners that are listening probably right now that'll
be there, like probably Bruce andfall America and stand Meeric, they should
(51:15):
be Gary qbac should be there.Yeah herey qbac should be there. He's
normally there. And then the Telstarsare playing, and they're the ones,
Yeah, they're the ones that wemolded our band behind and they're still playing.
They're nice at every and you know, you remember you met o' anthony
when we're doing that promotion. Yeah, the play still he's probably he's probably
(51:37):
set in with him before, youknow and everything. But anyway, uh,
yeah, I'm gonna go there andhang out with them, and there's
gonna have be a lot of kidsthere that probably listen with their parents to
show and this man. So yeah, I mean, well that's what I'm
saying. And normally when they whenthey when I go walking around and there,
they'll walk up to me and say, hey, man, aren't you
(51:58):
over there? You know? Good, you know, and that's an honor
and I really do appreciate it.Well, miss Doug, I'm gonna I'm
gonna go to rest and lay down. Oh and real quick, yeah,
you're right if you see that frontcoming in. At one time we caught
eighty catfish. There was four ofus and we had to go lay down
behind the hill and then our boatsfilled up with water. And just be
careful when you're sticking your arm downthere to pull that a drain plug out
(52:22):
to drain all the water out whilesomebody else is driving with the one fifteen
Johnson. You know, be carefulwith any outboard motor. You kind of
got to be careful of that onlywell I know, but I've put that
one fifteen, you know. Well, yeah, but i'd probably do.
If I had a smaller motor,I'd probably kick it up and then pull
(52:42):
it out and then drop it downand then take off. You know,
I don't know. I just tryto do it to save this way.
You can safety first. That's it. Hey, I appreciate you. Yeah,
I'm gonna kick back and be listening. Man. No better sedative than
the Doug Pike Show. Yeah.Meanwhile, meanwhile, back at the rank.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch. All right, man, I'll say,
okay, thanks for sure. Daveneeds a break, he needs a
(53:07):
rest. Rest up, Dave, relax, this show will knock you out
quick. You're not careful seven onethree two one two five seven ninety email
me Dougpike and iHeartMedia dot Com.Kind of a crazy week around my house.
I played golf Monday, but Iended up having to drive like a
(53:28):
half a tank of gas. Ithink I already knew that the place I
play most off in Blackhawk was shutdown for a tournament that Monday, as
a lot of golf clubs are. That's typically a country club's dark day,
the day that they do maintenance workand whatnot. And so I knew I
didn't I couldn't go there, AndI thought, I'll just go out and
visit with the guys out at GolfClub of Houston, because I haven't been
(53:52):
out there in a while, andI want to I want to make sure
everybody's doing all right out there andsee if there's anything I can do for
them. And I went ahead andjust committed to the drive, thinking,
Okay, even if they have alittle tournament out there, they've got two
golf courses sitting there, Surely Ican get out. So I tried all
the way out there from sugar Landin early morning work traffic, and pulled
(54:17):
around to where I can see theparking lot and the parking lots full.
And then I looked back over towardthe golf course and I can see a
tent on the number ten t andthat's all I needed to realize that they
had a big tournament going on.And I went ahead and called the pro
shop anyway, just on the outsidechance that all those people could fit onto
(54:42):
one golf course. And I waswrong, so I had to make some
phone calls. I actually ended upgoing north to David Preisler's place Oakhurst,
and he was kind enough to makeroom for me, and I got out
and played around there and got aroundin pretty good time too. I ended
up playing the last seven or eightholes I think it was, with somebody
else. But I zipped through thefirst half of it pretty quickly. Didn't
(55:07):
play very well, but I gotthere and I got my I scratched my
golf itch for the day and thanksto him. He's been a long time
friend and um one of the LikeI've said before and I'll say it again,
he's probably one of the most generouspeople I've ever met. Let me
get this mouse working. Go toGreg. Greg, what's up? Man?
(55:29):
It's all good, But I appreciateyou taking my car. Sure,
I've got a seven hundred BdL Redmydidn't yep, who everybody does? Four
year old gun? My daughter onehad a bit of bit good for her,
and you would you shoot it it? Uh? It won't eject the
(55:50):
shell, draw the bolt back, the shell won't come out of the barrel.
The extractor if not working, yeah, okay, right. Wondering if
you've got somebody you recommend locally.I talked a rim arm. They said
I'd send it back to them atno charge. Okay, but you know
(56:12):
it's got to be something simple.Wondering if you gotta uh yeah, just
what part of town you in?I mean, friends Wood, Friends Wood.
Let's see so that oh, Yeah, you're down there by um By
Timber Creek Golf Club. Huh,you're right exactly. Oh, this is
easy. Just go a little farthersouth and go down to Shooters Corner.
(56:37):
Shooters Corner Palmer Highway at twenty ninthStreet. Are you someplace where you can
write down a phone number? Igot it two eight one four seventy four,
four seven four ninety four ninety four. Good job. It's run by
(57:00):
a guy named j Jerry and Jay. They're a father and son team.
Jerry's about my age. Jay soundsabout like maybe your age. I don't
know either way. Right, Theyare two of the best gun smiths I've
ever met that I have sent Idon't know how many people to them for
really far worse situations than this withguns, and I've never had anybody call
me back and tell me it didn'twork. Yeah, the extractors got to
(57:24):
be off some way, and it'sgot to be a machine. Are you
familiar with loping a gun smith thatwe're on the northwest side of the town.
I'm not. I haven't had thepleasure of meeting those people. They're
supposed to be a gun manufacturer anda gun smith. Yeah, they told
me I needed a new barrel.Part a new barrel. That's interesting.
(57:49):
I'll tell you what, I trustJerry and Jay. Just take it over
to them, let them take alook at it and tell them what's going
on, and I'll bet you theycan take care of you. Yeah.
Rim Arms told me they took overRemington. Yes, said, there's a
GBI, a technical bullet down onthere that states that that extractor can't be
(58:13):
all beat machine. Oh okay, the shooters quarter. I appreciate you.
Yeah, they'll know. Jerry,Jay will know what's going on with that
gun. But I guarantee you they'vehandled I bet they've handled a thousand and
seven hundreds in their time. Yeah, right, all right, buddy,
Yeah, thanks great, appreciate you. Great to hear from you. Yes,
sir, bye bye, all right, you got that, Thank you
(58:34):
very much. At them. Allright, we're gonna take a break here.
On the way out to this break, let me see if I'm yeah,
I'm ahead of myself because I talkedabout Belleville Meat Market at the top
of the hour, didn't I I'mjust gonna pause and take a nice deep
breath. Let me see if there'ssomething just short and fun that I can
tell you, Oh this this caughtmy eye, and nobody online or nobody
(58:55):
kind of on the social media.I guess was a hunt and could figure
this out. But here's what Ifound. Somewhere up in New Jersey.
There were five hundred pounds of cookedpasta found in the woods. And I
saw a picture and it looked likethere were like maybe a half a dozen
(59:17):
little trailer behind a four wheeler loadsof cooked pasta, just dumped in a
line, all each pile connected tothe last, and nobody online could figure
out what this possibly could be.And if that doesn't sound like a bait
pile to me. I don't knowwhether black bears eat pasta, but if
(59:39):
they do, that's exactly what thatwas. Maybe somebody trying to get pictures
of bears for hunting next season,Maybe somebody illegally hunting bears. I don't
know what it was, but Imy hunch is that it was somebody's enormous
bait pile just to see if theycould start drawing something to that area.
(01:00:05):
Now, I don't know, there'swrite your own punchline. We gotta take
a break. Doug Pike Show onSports Talk seven ninety. We'll be right
back. This is Sports Talk sevenninety online at Sports seven ninety dot com.
Now more Doug Pike. W Ohmy god, I have no idea
(01:00:45):
what this is, Adam? Whatis this is the White Straps Hotel?
You're a I should have known?Well, not really, not not really,
No, thank you, though I'mQUI open to all almost all musical
genres. The profane hip hop andrap music. No, we're not gonna
(01:01:07):
have to play We're not gonna playsongs where you have to bleep out every
other word. Well, the electronicdance music too, Yeah, I can
live without that. I can.I grew up in the disco days,
and man, I grew up actuallydoing some club djaying at some pretty big
clubs here, and then I wentand open to club in atlant I was
over there for a couple of threemonths, six months, I don't know
(01:01:30):
what. I can't remember exactly howlong I stayed over there. But I'm
I'm about dumb with having to figureout how many beats per minute a record
is and then try to match themup where you don't lose your dance floor
full of people. There was anart to that, and some people were
better than others at it, andI take a lot of pride in just
(01:01:52):
in being asked to go open thatclub and then pulling it off successfully,
and they did very well. Idon't know. I don't even know if
the place is still there now.Half the people who would have been in
there probably dead. It's been awhile. It's been a long while.
Seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety Email me dugpick at iHeartMedia dot
com. Let me get back tomy note sheet here before week. Gosh,
(01:02:15):
it's already eight twenty. I've gotthat taken care of. I've got
that. Got that in the meantime. Oh yes, I mentioned earlier finding
this site of water temperatures, andthen we got so distracted by the temperature
of the water in the Baltic Seathat I didn't talk about the water temperatures
(01:02:36):
around here. And the reason Iwant to talk about them is because they're
the fishing in the surf is dependentupon water temperature, and all up and
down the Texas coast. Now thewater is well into the mid seventies,
and I think down, let mesee if I still got this site up
here where I can get to itquickly, because I think down there,
TikTok, TikTok, TikTok. Thereit is right there, yeah, all
(01:02:59):
the way down. Let me popthe station up to know exactly where it
is. Port Mansfield eighty one pointnine degrees on the beach front down there.
Everything else is in the mid seventiesor so. I gotta lean in
to see this. Seventy six offGalveston, seventy seven at Matta Gorda seventy
(01:03:21):
seven. Also at Corpus Christie. There's a little more inland station, a
little more a little shallower water wherethey're taking the Temptershire at Rockport. It's
got to be because they're showing eightytwo degrees eighty two and change, actually
almost eighty three. So whatever youwere waiting for, if you have been
waiting to go fish to serve, quit waiting and just start watching the water
(01:03:44):
conditions. You don't have to worryabout temperature anymore. I can. I
know I know firsthand that there alreadyare some fish being caught out of the
surf at Galveston and at Freeport, not firsthand, secondhand, at least it
wasn't my hands that caught. Let'sjust put it that way. But the
sources are reliable, and same forjust up and down when the water cleans
(01:04:05):
up. Next time the water cleansup up here, it's it's gonna be
kind of Katie bar the door,I think, because they're just we came
out so well after that freeze,a wall back better than almost anybody could
have hoped. Really, and thosefish are fattening up. They've had plenty
to eat in the bay system behindbehind that freeze from what almost got almost
(01:04:28):
two years ago? Now was italmost two or almost three? I think
it's two right at them, yesthere, Yeah, okay, I didn't
think it was. There's no wayit was going to be three come February.
A long time ago, one wayor the other, and really no
impact except two because there was anabundance of bait that showed up right behind
there, and nature taking care ofitself. If the fare is a perceived
(01:04:51):
shortage of something where a lot offish may have died, nature has a
way of taking care of the remainingf by providing them with tons to eat.
And from what I'm hearing about thequality of the fish to the fatness
of the fish, they're not missingmany meals. So when it starts,
(01:05:13):
it's gonna get good, and thefarther south you go, the faster it's
gonna pick up. They are alreadyfish being caught off the rocks around here
down at Packery Channel. I've talkedto Cliff Web this week. He tore
himself up pretty good. I don'tknow, I don't know how close to
full speed he is, but he'sand hopefully I heard the conversation between him
(01:05:35):
and my friends down the dial thismorning. He talked about fishing this week,
and I wasn't sure he was goingto be able to do that,
but I'm glad he was. I'llcatch up with him probably this afternoon and
maybe talk a little bit about whatwe talk about tomorrow morning. There are
a couple of reasons I want tomake another trip down south. I don't
want to crowd that beach anymore thanit's already crowded. But some of that
(01:06:00):
ere fishing down there is as goodas it gets probably anywhere on the planet.
It reminds me a little bit offishing the beach front over in Southeast
Florida, where these guys will walkup and down the beach and cast to
bait fish schools, cast to anythingthat looks out of place, because you
(01:06:20):
can't wade out over there much pastabout ten feet without being in four or
five feet of water. And it'svery similar down on the coast off of
Corpus off North Padrea Island. Afantastic place to go and be able to
wade fish without really having to goout there and fight the waves, go
(01:06:42):
out there and take slaps in theface from water that's a little bumpy now
you catch it on a calm dayif you if you wanted for some reason
to walk out to that second bar, you could. But everything you need
to do along that North Padre Islandshoreline you can do without getting your belt
wet, certainly, and in alot of cases, if the tide's really
(01:07:05):
up, you can do it evenwithout getting your feet wet. You get
a little a very light offshore breeze, you wouldn't even have to get your
feet wet to fish that surf downthere, and it's it's just it's very
good quality fish. You're gonna catchout there too every now and you know,
catch the average trout probably, Andthe trips I've made down there walking
(01:07:27):
the beach maybe two to three poundsand it's not uncommon at all to catch
them six seven eight pounds out ofthat surf either, plus a few snook,
plus an occasional tarp. And Ihad a tarp and just surprise the
heck out of me. I wasin a pretty good little school of trout
once down there years ago and gotthis bite and said lure was almost back
(01:07:49):
to my hand. I got abite and set up on it and about
I'm not a huge fish, butabout three feet of tarp and came shooting
out of the water right right infront of me, not not at the
rod tip, but close enough thatif it had been much closer, it
probably could have splashed me. Whenit went back into water, it was
Yeah, that's the kind of stuffthat's going on down there while we're up
(01:08:11):
here getting our trout in the surf, and there's nothing wrong with our fishing
at all, all the all thesummer, the harbingers of summer have shown
up, the skip jacks and theirtheir class, and now it's time to
get out there and get after sevenseven nine, email me Dugpacket at Heartmedia
dot com. I can't wait tohear back from Michael. I'm sure they're
(01:08:33):
at the beach now. I'm surethey're probably walking out the rocks at least
if they're not already out there andsetting up. I gave them a little
rig that I use. These gotkids with him, and they're very unfamiliar
with fishing the beach front, andrather than put them on a pier where
it would have been harder to landwhatever they caught and possibly might have been
(01:08:57):
crowded, I send them to thesurf side Jetty, but I told him
not to go all the way outto the end where everybody's got their umbrellas
set up and they've got ice chestsand lawn chairs and just they set up
like they're moving in down there. It gets very awkward and very crowded and
uncomfortable really when you're trying to getsome kids to catch a few fish.
(01:09:24):
I held them about a third ofthe way out maybe, and gave them
a rig that I would use theirbottom fishing with dead shrimp. And they
may not catch a ton of bigfish. They might not catch speckled trout
probably won't rigged like that, butthey'll catch some fish, and that was
the objective. They they just wantto catch something, and it's hard not
(01:09:45):
to get bites when the water's warmedup like it has. And as long
as they can keep those rigs outof the rocks and not worry about them,
they'll do well. I did givethem the live bait technique that I
used down there for so long,so effectively, and it's a little different,
frankly, than what most of thepeople down there are doing. Most
of them are fishing. When they'refishing live bait, they're fishing slip corks
(01:10:10):
and letting that bait drop down toabout close to eight feet under the cork,
and that's that's the kill zone downthere. The water's deeper than that,
but that's better than the middle ofthe road for where they're casting.
Usually the idea is to get thatthat bait out there deep close to the
(01:10:32):
edge of where the rocks meet thesand bottom. That's the that's the runway
for most of those trout out there. Every now and then you can catch
them on top. Every now andthen you'll you'll get bites right up against
the rocks or way out over openwater. But most of those fish are
moving kind of just right along theedges of the rocks trying to pick off
bait. Fish they see every nowand then you can get them boil them.
(01:10:56):
One of the most vicious strikes Iever got down there on the top
water. It was almost at dark, about halfway in gulf side, and
I'm just throwing a I don't rememberwhat it was, probably am some top
water, I can't remember which one, but just running it parallel to the
rocks as I walked in. I'dwalk down and make two or three casts,
and get up and move another twentythirty yards in and do the same
(01:11:19):
thing. And something hit that baitright next to the rocks with the viciousness
of a probably a twenty pounds snook, and it may have been a snook.
It's probably the only bite that I'vehad down there that I thought instantly
that's a snook, and then Ilost the fish. That happens too.
(01:11:39):
All right, we're gonna take alittle break here on the way out.
I'll tell you about taking Vegas prettymuch. You know what you're gonna get
when that, when that bunch takesover for you helping you make your sports
wagering decisions. You're gonna get servicefrom people who are their job is to
study all this stuff all year round. They study the games. They study
(01:12:01):
the umpires and referees and the playersand the coaches, and put all of
that information together injury reports, allthat information together to look at that big
board in one of those sports booksin a casino somewhere in Vegas or maybe
back on the East Coast where theyare over in Louisiana, and decide which
(01:12:25):
play or plays. They'll never tellyou to bet every game. That just
makes no sense. You just havemore chances to lose. You got to
be very careful, and I've talkedto Chris Hodge about this a lot of
times. Most people, the biggestmistake they make is betting hunches or betting
gut feelings, things like that. These guys use information, real information that
(01:12:48):
they gather from sources probably not availableto most of us, and they make
those make those decisions for you.You do what you do during the week
to general rate the money that youget to have some fun with and maybe
you have some friendly wagers with yourfriends around here, or you're driving over
across the river to Louisiana, maybeflying out to Vegas. Whatever it is.
(01:13:11):
They can help you with that.Go to the website, take a

I did not know this. Rick, Oh my gosh, the favorite
of the Kentucky derby just scratched out, whoa holy cow? That's not good.
(01:14:19):
And imagine I guess I don't knowhow sports wagering works out in Las
Vegas or whatever, but I guessif the horse isn't even in the race,
you get your money back. Butthat just upset everybody's apple cart.
Holy cow. Wow. Captain Scottwighed in on that snake, that picture
(01:14:44):
that Coach Whippy sent. He said, I drive him from the gate to
the house and saw him periscope andabove the grass. They'll do that,
and that's a really cool thing tosee. So I knew if he if
I walked up, he'd take off, so I drove slowly up to him,
open the door, and he outonto the ground. I couldn't believe
it actually worked one photo before hebailed. That reminds me that's very similar
(01:15:09):
to how many chances exactly I gotwhen I got the shot of that little
yellow warbler on top of a penInternational reel off the coast of it is
Lamu Harris years ago. We're fifteenmiles off the off shore during the migratory
season. This little bird just dumpedinto the back of the boat and I
(01:15:29):
picked him up. We fed him, We gave him some water, and
he was starting to feel a littlebetter, and it looked like he was
going to bail. And I setthat bird on the reel and I stepped
back with an old SLR cannon cameraand had all self of jade, not
self adjusting, all manually adjusted.I had to adjust everything in a split
(01:15:53):
second, got off one frame beforethe bird flew off, and thank goodness,
it was tax sharp. Thank goods, the bird's beat didn't disappear into
the black foam on the rod handle. They couldn't have turned out a whole
lot better if I'd have been ableto stage it for hours so every now
(01:16:13):
and then if you go to theeffort. If Scott had just jumped out
of the truck and stood there andtried to take pictures, he would have
gotten nothing. But as a realphotography he understand real photographer. He understood
that he had to get out andget down low and sneak up on this

Oh there it is right there,Kentucky Derby favorite. This is from
twenty four minutes ago and thirty threeminutes ago. Yeah, forte out according
to ESPN, I'm trying to getthe story to come up here now in
(01:18:43):
case any of you are are activelyinterested in this race. I love to.
If I'm home and I see thatit's it's getting close to time,
close to post time, I gocheck that stuff out and I'll watch the
race because it is. You can'tnot watch it. If you're home and
you're in front of a TV orwherever you are in front of the screen,
(01:19:03):
and the Kentucky Derby's on, yougot to watch. The decision to
remove Fote was made following a Saturdaymorning workout. According to a story from
I hate when they don't put theperson's name on there who wrote it.
I guess it's just a deal,Stay Racing commissioned veterinarian afterward. Forte has
been listed as the three to onemorning line favorite to win the Derby,
(01:19:26):
and was at four to one beforehe scratched. Tap At Trace and Angel
of Empire were both listed at sixto one prior to Fourte's withdrawal. Latest
horse to mister race listed includes PracticalMovement, Skinner Blah blah blah. There's
a lot more stuff in there. The Kentucky Derby is now set to be
run with eighteen horses. That wouldbe the smallest field since the twenty twenty
(01:19:53):
derby not exactly a historical event then, which only had set or fifteen horses.
So there's all you needed to knowabout the scratching of Forte. Dang,
that does upset a lot of people'sapple carts. There's a lot of
people. I actually know somebody who'sover there, a woman named Nicole who
(01:20:13):
is who works out at the BigEasy and is there for the derby.
I hope Nicole doesn't have to makethat trip back to the window to get
some money back on a forte ticket. All right, I'll tell you,
well, we'll go ahead, goto this break early. I'm gonna do
a little bit more research on someother things than the Kentucky Derby. That's
that's of interest, but not ofgreat interest, and certainly amongst this audience
(01:20:36):
when the water looks as good asit does, when they're as many fish
being caught as there are, I'mnot going to dwell on horse racing.
I want to tell you on theway out this is a great opportunity to
do so as well, that weneed to We need to let Congress know
that we do not want to losethe AM radios in our cars and trucks.
(01:20:58):
If you're listening to this show rightnow on your way to somewhere or
from somewhere. The manufacturers of alot of automobiles don't want you to have
that opportunity. What they want todo is delete the amband from in car
radios. And there's no real goodreason for that. They just for some
reason want to do it. Maybeit'll save them two dollars a car.
(01:21:20):
I don't know, but we relyon AM radio not only for shows like
mine, shows like Michael Barry Show, like Jimmy and and Shara in the
mornings on KTRH, you name it, Walton and Johnson. A lot of
(01:21:40):
entertainment on AM radio through talk shows, a lot of valuable information and emergencies
as well. And the information youget on an AM radio is always going
to be more comprehensive and easier todigest because you're hearing it in real time.
We even, for example, duringstorms and whatnot, we get calls
(01:22:02):
from listeners here with information on wherethere's a shelter where you can go get
some bottled water real quick if youneed it. All of that we share
in real time with our listeners sothat everybody can be safe and secure in
what's going on, when it's goingto start, when it's gonna stop.
(01:22:24):
Without an AM radio, that's gonnabe tough. You can still listen to
the AM stations, but you'll haveto go through a streaming service to get
them, and that's a different animalaltogether. Live AM radio is the best
connection you'll ever have in an emergency. All you have to do to let
Congress know you don't want this tohappen is text the letters AM to five

I've done it. You'd need todo it as well. You will receive

The dump button we have is liketwenty seconds. I thought the delay with
seven seconds. I guess I didtoo. Apparently too many people were letting
stuff slip through the cracks. Idon't know. In any event, we'll

Is it called? We'll find outon the Texas Temperature games because you're hot,
yours cold as I I'm creating mycheat sheet. Now run you there,

get there, I'm here, Adam, You there? Yeah? Pretty
better be all right? As always, we're developing the rules and whatnot.
Since you are the the on phonecontestant, you get to choose first or
second. Chose second? Okay.Let me write down a couple of numbers
(01:26:49):
here so I have what I haveto work with, um, and that
one is that you're gonna go second. Adam, what do you believe to
be the current low temperature in thestate of Texas? It was pretty hot
yesterday, so I'll go with fortyone forty one? Ryan, what do
you think is the low temperature inthe state of Texas? I will go
(01:27:12):
with fifty two? Okay, fiftytwo okay, Ryan? What do you
excuse me? Adam? What doyou believe to be the current high temperature
in the state of Texas. I'llgo with eighty three eighty three. Ryan,
what do you consider the current hightemperature in the state of Texas?
(01:27:34):
I will go ninety ninety. Youjust think it's scald and hot. Is
not looking good. The current lowtemperature in the state of Texas is forty
six. Adam scores of five.Ryan scores a six on the un see
no, wait, yeah, fortysix and six yeah, six, So
(01:27:56):
that was close. The current hightemperature in the state of Texas not quite
as balmy as you expected. Ryan. It's only eighty one degrees. So
you took an eight there for atotal of fourteen. Ryan had eighty three.
He actually only missed by two. He's pretty good. He took a
seven. But you know what,Adam, what do you think you think
(01:28:17):
Ryan needs you? How badly doyou need to go play golf with three
of your friends? I need toIt's been a long time. Is it
hurting? Is it just hurting youbad? It's hurting bad? Okay,
having golf cross? Oh oh no, we can't have that, Adam.
Adam, get Ryan's information. We'resending him the golf course. All right,
(01:28:40):
thank you so much, thank youa little begging. I'll get you
a lot really far down the roadon this program. All right, you
put him on hold. You gotthat taken care of. We're sending you
to I see we had river plantation, then Oakers, I'm gonna go back
to river Plantation for you and besure to put that in the information you
send me. Adam, Oh,well, never mind. If I'll put
an RP by this. There yougo to RP. Okay, take care
(01:29:08):
of that. Yeah, I hatesomebody to go through all the trouble of
guessing and and whether you get itright or wrong. It's starting to turn
into one of those games where thereare no loser. We'll consider it to
participation trophy. Let's just go withthat for a while. Seven to one

I was kind of surprised actually bythese temperatures this morning. It's it's it's
(01:29:32):
getting up there too, it's climbingup. Actually. Yeah, there's a
couple of difference in degrees of thehigh and low right now, but it's
not enough to really make too Holdon, let me see something real quick
that would be that Hang on justone second. I'm just out of curiosity
because there's a change, that's thesame that one would move from that to
(01:29:56):
or yeah, it's still it doesn'tchange the outcome changed the outcome at all.
I did not refresh, but Idid. I double checked in.
The outcome is the same. It'sstill good. Everybody's playing well. We
have some early early plays in thisgame where the differential was horrific, people
(01:30:16):
who apparently just moved to Texas orsomething. But now it's it's dialed in.
People are kind of paying attention alittle bit thinking about it. It
was hot yesterday afternoon, Holy cow, it was hot. Went out to
the golf course, hit a fewballs while my son got a lesson from
my buddy Tommy O'Brien out there atBlackhawk. He is man. If you
(01:30:39):
want to learn the game, that'sa good guy to learn it from.
You got to be patient. It'snot going to happen overnight. But if
you can, if you can getin front of Tommy enough times and then
race home and take notes afterward, just take good notes, or even leave
yourself voicemails. I do that alot. I'll send a voicemail to myself
(01:31:00):
or send a text message to myselfor an email with valid and important information,
and that's that helps a lot, really does. Reference back to the
notes. My brother in law I'vetalked about before has notes going back to
almost every golf lesson he ever took. And this is a guy who who
was smart enough after he got outof law school at Rice and the then
(01:31:28):
Transcope Petroleum hired him and allowed himto work half a day lawyering and go
work on his golf game half aday to see which way he wanted to
go as a career. He's thatbright a guy, and he was smart
enough to realize that he was justmaybe half of shot around off of what
he thought it would take to dowell. And he's since then done very
(01:31:50):
well for himself and his family asa lawyer. And hats off to him.
He's another guy who's coming back fromshoulder injury No. Three I know
now hopefully that'll leave me out ofthe loop. Good things, bad things
happen in threes. That's the oldstory that you hear from people my age.
(01:32:10):
So that makes him a Scott andCliff, all suffering shoulder problems right
now, and all from seemingly innocentactivities. Nobody was doing something crazy.
One of them just getting out ofa truck one of them. I can't
remember what Cliff was doing. Hewas he was doing some balancing acts somewhere,
(01:32:32):
I think. And then my brotherin law just trying to maneuver and
just lost balance against the curb.I think it was. That just can't
happen to anybody. It happen toanybody anywhere. Basically, what did I
see? It's Friday, Michael,on Saturday, lots of surfers. Oh
(01:32:54):
that doesn't that doesn't bode well.We may change venues if you know the
way to get there. The bestthing to do under those circumstances, if
you're still listening, Michael, isto just loop around and go to the
other side, go to the Quintanaside of the jetties. It's about a
twenty minute drive, but probably wellworth it if that's going to be the
(01:33:15):
calmer side. Oh good lord.Yeah, we do have to break us
lost Shield legal protection for your selfprotection. If you own a gun and
you ever have to use it,Heaven forbid. We don't want that to
happen. But if you do needto do that, US Loss you will
provide you with twenty four seven accessto a phone number you get for just
signing up and paying monthly dues thatare low enough to not bother you at
(01:33:39):
all and give you great sense ofprotection. It's like having a watchdog around
there for your rights as a gunowner. If you ever have to use
that weapon of yours, you're goingto be asked a lot of questions by
a lot of people. Before youanswer any questions. If you're a member
of us Lost Shield, you justsay, you know what, I'll talk
to you when my attorney gets here, and then you wait. They can't
(01:34:00):
make you answer questions without your attorneypresent, and your attorney will come to
you. You'll make that one phonecall, and then you'll get an attorney
assigned to your case, and thatperson will be with you all the way
through to the resolution of that case, even if it goes to court and
beyond, even maybe to an appeal. And you pay zero additional legal fees.
(01:34:21):
Think of the tens of thousands ofdollars that could save you in headache
and hassle and legal fees. Goto one of their websites. Go to
the website, read all the downloadableguides about gun ownership and when and where
you should and shouldn't what you cando what you can't do with guns,
(01:34:42):
but above all else, become amember of US law Shield US law shield
dot Com. That's US law shielddot Com. This is the Doug Fike
Show, brought to you by AmericanShooting Centers, Guns Shooting and Instruction nineteen
eighty nine and by taking Vegas dotCom or twenty years helping sports investors make
(01:35:05):
better, more informed decisions. Nowhere's Doug Pike nine oh two. It
is on this beautiful absolutely gorgeous Whywhy can I not see the beach on
this TV? At? Oh?There it is. I see it now.
It's on the other TV. Andit looks a little bit actually foggy
and misty still down there on thebeach front. I'm not sure why unless
(01:35:30):
that's just a I believe that's anaccurate depiction, But why it would be
that way in Galvis and it maybesomething on the lens. Let me hold
on, I'll run quickly back tomy surfside beach cam. There it is
bing. Oh yeah, it's alittle bumpy you no wonder Michael and the
boys are gonna punt and get offthat surf side Jetty. That's I'm sad
(01:35:55):
to see that. That's too bad. Hurry up live stream, Come on,
I was just a snapshot. Heusually doesn't take this long. Glad.
Yeah, it's it's grinding pretty hard. That's too bad. Got a
little bit of sargass and weed onthe beach. That's not the end of
the world though. They'll get thatcleaned off at some point. Until they
do, though, try not towalk through it because it'll make your shoes
(01:36:17):
stink and you in any part ofyour body that touches it. It's pretty
nasty, smelly stuff. Wow.I just got an email. It's very
interesting and it's titled the top tenhighest paid Golfers of twenty twenty two.
Seven of the ten now play onlive golf, which is interesting. Let's
(01:36:41):
just roll down through golf Magic andsee what they say. The only three
golfers in the top ten who arenot playing live golf are Tiger Woods,
Rory McElroy and Jordan's Speeth. Mickelson, who is estimated to have earned two
hundred million for joining live, leadsthe top ten list by considerable margin.
(01:37:06):
It's believed that he was only givenhalf of the money up front, although
he did lose a number of hisbiggest sponsors by joining that tour, which,
hey, if somebody gives me twohundred and I lose fifty, I
feel like I'm in pretty good shape. And I can't imagine that his endorsements,
(01:37:29):
the however many he lost, wouldhave netted him more than fifty or
sixty million dollars. Unbelievable. Alive golf enter this did that? Saudi
funded circuit. Live Golf confirmed twentythree. Huh interesting. Live Golf League
(01:37:51):
confirmed a new for twenty three schedule. Basically a new league with an increase
to four hundred and five million dollarsin tournament prize money over fourteen tournaments.
It's a lot of money. That'sa lot of money. Featured twelve twelve
(01:38:13):
established team captains, and on andon and on. So basically this is
a this is a well, here'sthe list. Finally, Charles Schwartzel thirty
four million bucks, Patrick Reed thirtyseven, Jordan Speed thirty nine, Mercy
off course earnings of that thirty nine, thirty one, Sergio Garcia still knocking
(01:38:38):
it out. He earned thirty fivemillion dollars on the golf course last year.
Wow? Or maybe is that alltime? That might be all time
money? No way, no twentytwenty two. Oh as of twenty twenty
two. Yeah, okay, highestpaid and all the way running to the
top of the list if I canever get there as Brooks EPCA, Brian
(01:39:00):
de Shambo at eighty six. Yeah, this is all total everything. Dustin
Johnson nineties seven, Phil Mickelson onehundred and thirty eight million dollars. That
must say it. Maybe actually thatis last year's money. It's gotta be
holy cow boys are doing. Okay, let me let me get over here
(01:39:24):
and get to this question while Ibefore I get to the leaderboard from the
Wells Fargo, Kevin, what's up, buddy, Hey Doug, good morning
morning. Yeah. So I'm thinkingof buying a waiver runner to fish,
and that could use it to fishand then I also entertain, you know,
(01:39:47):
my kids and whatnot. But doyou know anybody that's fished off a
waiver runner? Not here? Downin Florida, there are a lot of
people doing that. I don't seeit nearly as much here. I don't
know why, honestly, because it'sa highly effective vehicle for doing that,
it really is. I'm not surewhere. I'm not sure where to point
(01:40:10):
you to be perfectly honest, butI will throw this. I'm we are
throwing it out to the audience rightnow. And I know there's a ton
of information online about it, becauseI've seen it and read a lot about
it. But I'm I'm not theguy to ask, but I know that
there are a lot of people doingit, and now some of these guys
are They're rigging them up with livewells and all kinds of accessories. I
(01:40:33):
don't know how deep you want toget into it, but man, just
imagine where you can get on oneof those. You can get pretty much
anywhere you could get into kayak, only you can get there one heck of
a lot faster. Yeah, that'swhat I was thinking. Yeah, I
was looking at getting a kayak. So I'm handicapped, but broke. You
(01:40:54):
were talking about crazy injuries earlier.I broke my neck a handful of years
ago. Oh I'm so sorry, man, Oh thank you. But yeah,
I used to go wave fishing withBuddy Mine all the time down and
uh Rockport not sorry not Rockport PortO'Connor um and Sea Drift as well.
(01:41:17):
But uh, ever since my injury, I haven't been able to fish.
So I want to get back intoit. Um. So I was thinking,
you know, the wave Runner inGalveston Bay, you know where go
go get some spots out there, and I just I didn't know if it's
(01:41:41):
gonna be tough because I'm trying tofigure out if you you know, if
whenever I catch what I'm gonna do. You know, I have a cooler
on the I gotta get definitely atwo seater so I can put stuff on
a bas know, if the youknow, if that was viable option,
and I think it's a fantastic option. What what are your what are your
(01:42:02):
limitations? Um? I mean Istill uh have to use a cane,
Okay. So as far as doingwhat I used to do weight fishing,
you know I can't do that.I could do it, nahout, don't
(01:42:24):
don't even damn man, focus yourtime right now and getting that wave runner
and and if you're able to geton and off of it and load it
and unload it, you're you're gonnabe You're gonna be sad. Man.
You should be in good shape.Yeah, I think that would be a
fantastic way to go. And halfyour buddies are gonna be kind of jealous
(01:42:44):
and want to ride behind you. They're gonna get on that. Hey,
you got that second seat right there. What do you think, Kevin?
Can I hop on with you?Still? Yeah? And and and also
you know I could double is havingfun you know? With sure? You
know, yeah, take your icechest off and all of that and then
do whatever you want to do onit. And then my second question is,
(01:43:05):
Okay, so my parents live upin Georgetown. Oh Lake Georgetown's not
very big, but do you knowanything about the fishing up there? I
have never fished that lake. Idon't know anything about it, to be
perfectly honest. But I'll throw thatback out too, and I'll bet,
well, we'll get some responses.Keep listening and I'll see anything that comes
(01:43:28):
up for you. There's got tobe I would check with. Honestly.
There are a couple of the kayakclubs around here. I'd be willing to
bet that at least one or twoor ten of their members have either done
that already or are doing it now, fishing off of personal watercraft. Because
it's down in Florida. Like Isaid, there's all kinds of guys.
You see them all the time, just puttering around there and shooting across one
(01:43:53):
side to the other if they wantto go fish somewhere else. It's it's
a very efficient tool, it reallyis. I man, knock yourself out.
It's gonna be good. Once youget on that thing and get accustomed
to it, it'll take you anyplace you want to go. And you
don't have to wear out your armspaddling anything. You're in good shape.
Man. All right, yeah,I appreciate it. Hey, if you
(01:44:14):
have any more golfing passes for RiverPlantation, let me know. I'd like
to take my son out there. What you now, Hold on just a
second, Adam, put him onhold. Okay, what's go ahead?
Yeah, you can't play? Whathe can? Yeah, he's he's graduating
from a and m uh next estherand he plays a lot of golf.
(01:44:39):
But since my injury, I can't. But I'll just go on. I'll
just drive the cart. I'll drivethe cart. Now, I'll put you
know, you got a good spirit, my friend. I'm gonna get at
him to put you on hold. We'll hook you up. Don't worry,
thank you. Yeah, I'll takecare of that. Thanks. Man.
All right, Adam, Yeah, you got him, Okay, get his
(01:45:00):
information. I'm gonna take care ofhim for river plantation. All right,
good habits. We need to takea break. When we get back,
we'll talk about the wells Fargo.See what's going on there. Man.
Those guys playing golf make a lotof money. Come on, son,
listen to what Tommy's telling you.Be good and yeah, fingers crossed.
(01:45:21):
I don't know what level of golfhe'll play, but I think he'll play
at a higher level than he's atright now. To be as good as
he is at his age I thinkis on his way. Is he the
second coming of Jordan or Tiger orDustin or any of those guys. Maybe
not, but he's darned competitive forhis age group, and he's got the
(01:45:43):
build of a good golfer. We'llsee how that works out. Sepone one
three, two, one, two, five seven nine. Email and me
Dugpike at iHeartMedia dot com. I'llcheck emails during the break. On the
way out, I'll tell you aboutEagles Boatyard down there, AF five eighteen
and Kima New Boats pre owned boatsout there. If you've got a boat
you want to sell, you cantake it down there and they'll put it
out there on a street for youcharge you a little bit when you sell
(01:46:05):
it. They have to hot Sueoutboards two hundred and fifty horsepower to Hot
Sue. Kind of new around here, but a very reliable brand worldwide and
has been for decades. They haveaccessories galore. They have all the electronics,
trolling motors, sound systems, lights, whatever you want to put on
(01:46:26):
your boat, however gaudy you wantto make it, they'll help you do
that. However efficient you want itto be, they'll help with all of
that. They're very good at whatthey do. JT and Mark and everybody
down there, really really good atgetting work done on boats, putting accessories
where you want them, not wheresomebody else tells you they ought to go.
(01:46:49):
They even do all their own fiberglasswork, which is kind of unusual
in this business these days. Theybuild case skifts. Go down there and
look at those little skifts. Youwant to run around and shallow water,
Go take a look at those casegifts. They're kind of pretty special.
Eagles Boatyard dot Com is a website. They're on five eighteen. If you
know where that is. You canfind them pretty easily, right off the
(01:47:10):
golf Freeway. A few miles upin there. It's not worth right down
the street, but you'll be gladyou made that trip when you get there.
Eagles Bowyard dot com, Eagles Boatyarddot com. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety, breaking sports news onFacebook twenty four or seven. We'll get
that information to them from them. This is the Doug Pike Show. I
(01:47:32):
evel wining lowst what little sense Ihad na be billed a day from night.
I'm crazy as a loon. Yougot in the chasing rabbits, pulling
out my hair and howling at theSports Talk seven ninety The Doug Pike Show,
(01:47:55):
having some discussion via the radio withMichael and trying to figure out where
to send him. And honestly, the way the wind's popping around right now
like a holy mackerel. Update. The wind early this morning, if you're
recall, it was fairly mild.Wasn't a big deal. Now still from
(01:48:15):
the southeast up on this end ofthe coast, sixteen sixteen nineteen miles an
hour. I believe that's gonna besaindlis pass. Let me see. No,
that's actually surf Side's north Jetty nineteenalmost dead on shore, which means
that neither the surf side nor theQuintana side is going to be protected much
(01:48:38):
at all. Yeah, it's gonnabe a tough day on the beach front
unless you're a surfer. As wewere talking about, farther down the coast,
it's just more of the same.Every reporting station in the teens now.
The only one that's not is AnniwagNational Wildlife Refuge. And where that
station is is farther inland, andit's it's kind of protected. It must
(01:49:00):
be behind the wall. It's onlyshowing six miles an hour. Stays pretty
busy until you get all the wayup to let's see where it breaks off
again, maybe around the c BarRanch. I have no idea where that
is. Now we're all at Fayetteville. That's a good point. Everybody knows
where that is. Who's done anybass fishing in this part of the state.
(01:49:24):
Only two miles an hour out ofthe south up there, coastal stuff
all blowing pretty dog on good.Let's go to the Wells Fargo Championship,
shall we over there? Let mesee if I can get to this leaderboard
real quick. Stand by, gotto click on the official full leader board
(01:49:45):
for the Wells Fargo, Quail hollowover in the Caroline is the beautiful Caroline
is one of the guys here inthe office. As a matter of fact,
another left handed golfer. Essentially, what I'm doing is losing the only
other left handed golfer I can thinkof who's here in this office. Kid
named Kevin, a young guy, pretty good player, and his wife actually
(01:50:06):
got the big, the big payingjob over on the East coast. So
they have packed their stuff and probablyI don't know if they're headed out yet,
but they will be shortly. I'llmiss him. He's pretty good player.
Terrell Hatton also playing pretty well.He and Nate Lashley and Wyndham Clark
(01:50:27):
are all tied at eight under parthrough two rounds of play seven under par.
All. Well, no, Iwas gonna say all alone, but
holy cow, I just refreshed thisthing and man, it's I got rid
of the shoe ad and realize thatthere it's a mini van full of people.
Let's just start with Zander Shaffley,JJ Spawn, Justin, Thomas,
(01:50:51):
Adam scott Sonya M and Adams Svenson, all at seven under par. The
X is obviously still in it.On a Saturday morning, Tommy Fleetwood,
Michael kim kge Lee, Stewart Sink. Oh, actually Stewart Sink is at
five, and there's even There areeven more people at five than there were
(01:51:12):
at seven. So I'm not gonnaread the whole list, but they're all
there are recognizable names. Nobody outof nowhere coming up. It's not like
a long shot winning the Kentucky Derby. If any of these guys were to
win, you say, yeah,he was due. They're all good players.
Everybody on the tour. We don'tneed to talk about that much.
Everybody out there, everybody who hasthat business card says PGA Tour player.
(01:51:36):
They're all really good. If theyweren't, they wouldn't be there, that's
for sure. Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety email on
me Dougpike and iHeartMedia dot com.Where is this sheet of paper? I
was gonna there was something I wantedto talk about on the golf side.
That's not it. This is notit. Where did it go? Oh?
Here? It is my notes.I wanted to get to my notes.
(01:52:00):
I heard some talk on the golfon the golf scene here. I
heard some talk this past week onthe PGA Tour Network about warming up before
you play. And now my son, my son's fifteen, and his idea
of warming up before he plays isputting on his glove and lacing up his
(01:52:20):
shoes and maybe making three or fourpractice swings on the t box, and
he's good to go, or atleast he believes he's good to go,
and he can make what looks likea really full swing. I, on
the other hand, take at leasttwo minutes with my orange whip trainer,
(01:52:45):
for those of you who know whatthat is, and for those of you
who don't, if you ride pastfor some reason, a bunch of golf
bags all standing up and full ofclubs at a golf course somewhere, look
for something at the top of thebag that looks like an orange tennis ball
on a stick. And that's whatthat is. And it's just a weighted
ball that you swing around you andtry to loosen up all your joints and
(01:53:10):
maybe get your back to crack alittle bit, as mine sometimes does when
I make the first really full swingand turn, and then I got to
stretch my legs a little bit andstretch my hammies, stretch my quads,
just do all of that bend atthe waist a few times to get my
back kind of loosened up. Andit's just this whole rigamarole that is necessary
(01:53:35):
to keep me from probably snapping something. I don't know. But what interested
me about the conversation I heard aboutall of this stretching stuff is that if
you were actually to even my son, as loose as he feels like he
is, if you were to putyourself on a machine, on something that
(01:53:57):
registers ball speed and club head speedand all of that, you likely would
find that, no matter how looseyou think you are, when you make
that first full swing, you're probablyonly at about maybe eighty eighty five percent
of max. And it may takefifteen or twenty swings at and through golf
balls for you to get up tofull speed. So if you're one of
(01:54:21):
those guys who has no problem goingto the first tea straight from the parking
lot, you just get the clubsout of the car, put them on
the cart, throw your tennis shoesor your work shoes in the back and
the trunk, put on your golfshoes, time up, and go straight
to the box. Your clubhead speedis not going to be what it's gonna
(01:54:43):
be once you get out there andplay three or four holes. And I've
seen that in myself when I've hadto get out and go early with him
before I could warm up. Ido what I can standing there next to
the tea box while he goes upand hits, But I still feel like
I've got to I'm just not quitethere, even though I want to believe
I'm making a full swing. Thedifference in the particular guy's swing speed I
(01:55:08):
was listening to on his he wastalking about having five irons that he was
hitting on the machine, and thefirst speed measured against the twentieth first wing
measured against the twentieth swing, therewas about a ten mile an hour difference
in clubbed speed and ten miles anhour difference in clubbed speed. Pretty Much
(01:55:30):
throughout your bag is a significant amountof yardage. So if you're out one
fifty, Let's say you managed tohit a good drive on your first t
shot and you're one hundred and fiftyout and you feel like, okay,
good, I got a nice shothere, you might want to think about
reaching for your one sixty club justat least on that hole, or maybe
(01:55:54):
even the second and possibly the third, depending on the temperature and how loose
you feel. Just to make sureyou get it there. Now. I
made a mistake yesterday, hit apretty good drive off the first tea and
then immediately proceeded because I downwind. It was down wind. I didn't take
that into consideration. I went aheadand pulled that extra club and managed to
(01:56:17):
just fly the ball over the greenand into the water, Thank you very
much. Never fails when you pulla ball out of the bag that it's
if it's gonna go in the water, it's gonna go in there in the
first three swings. It just seemsinevitable for me to lose one or two
out there. There's one hole, the third hole. There are probably more
(01:56:38):
iHeart logoed balls in the woods onthe right of the third hole out there
than anywhere else on the planet.Oh well, that's just a personal issue
of mine. I'll get over it. I'll get through it all the way.
I don't want to take this breakon time, so Aaron or Adam
and I can clear up and catchup shooters corner. I talked about them
earlier in the program. Somebody hada problem with a seven hundred Remington seven
(01:57:00):
hundred beautiful rifle. I own twoof them, actually two different calibers,
and have used both of them manymany times to take some nice animals.
Shooters Corner can help with any gunproblem you might have, any issue you
have that requires a gunsmith's service.Jerry and JT. K And anybody who's
working in that store are counted byme as among the best in the business.
(01:57:25):
I sent somebody else down there todayand I fully expect not to hear
any problems. Return when they comeback from Shooters Corner and take the gun
down there and get fixed the rightway. They'll take good care of you.
If you need a gun, arifle, shotgun, of handgun,
whatever. If you need AMMO forthe guns you already have, if you
need CAMO, if you need optics, if you need reloading supplies. A
(01:57:49):
lot of guys a lot more peoplereloading now since that whole problem during the
COVID era of not being able tofind AMMO, a lot of guys have
gone to reloading, and Jerry andJay have a nice supply of reloading supplies
down there at Shooters Corner, PalmerHighway at twenty Night Street. If you
(01:58:10):
wear a badge for a living.You get a discount there, which I
think is pretty honorable. And that'sjust who they are. That's who Jerry
and Jay are. They respect thepeople who take care of them, keep
them safe, and they want tohelp anyway they can. The Shooters Corner
TX dot com is a website morethan forty years down there on Palmer Highway
(01:58:31):
at twenty Nights Street. The ShootersCorner TX dot com ninety. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety Houston Sports Onlineat sportsnet dot com. Back to the
Doug Fike Show. Found my friend, oh Bluebeard four on Sports Talk seven
(01:59:10):
nine. He the Doug Pike Show. Thank you for listening. I certainly
do appreciate it. I'll think DavidPreisler getting up at Oakhurst and River Plantation.
He was nice enough to give methese rounds that I'm just dealing out.
It's kind of like being some sortof an entertainment dealer, if you
will, you get send somebody outto enjoy a place one time, and
they'll be back. They'll like whatthey find there. I had a great
(01:59:32):
time playing at Oakhurst on Monday.I've ended up all over town actually and
had some opportunities. I've got someopportunities once when my son gets out of
school. There are three courses thatI'm going to make sure that he and
I get to go play this summer, because he hasn't played them and I
have, and I want to makesure that I can check them off the
(01:59:53):
list of places I'm trying to showto him. I saw a funny story
out of Louisiana yesterday, by theway, and it has nothing to do
with the outdoors really, but itjust it strikes me as so cajun.
Fifty nine year old guy. Fiftynine year old guy gets arrested because he
(02:00:13):
hit his brother in the head withwhat Adam didn't hurt him badly, but
I bet it. I bet itwrung his bell a skillet. No,
but you're kind of well, you'resemi warm. Something you'd find in the
kitchen anyway toaster. No, hehis brother in the head with a bag
of frozen chicken. I've had amillion guesses. I don't know. I
(02:00:38):
know, Yeah, we don't havethat kind of time. We've only got
an hour. We've only got anhour seven one three two one two five
seven and all we got now isabout fifty two minutes maybe or not fifty
two twenty two minutes? Holy cow, how time flies? I want to
go. I want to shift offa golf for a minute. I was
gonna say something about pace of play. Well, i'll tell you real quickly.
(02:00:59):
Down in Florida, where else thisbig fight breaks out because of pace
of play, and people on onegroup thought the group in front of them
was playing too slow, and theother group said, look, we got
people in front of us. There'sanother we can do about it. And
that brought up this past week discussionof pace of play, which I'm changing
(02:01:23):
now that I heard some discussion ofthat on the PGA Tour Network. I've
coined the phrase space of play, which means as soon as the other group
gets out of the fairway, youdon't have to go ahead and hit your
t shots and then ride up thereand sit in your cart while they chip
onto the green and ultimately make theirputts. Give them a little room,
and then everybody will have the opportunityto drive up to your shot and be
(02:01:48):
able to go ahead and hit withinseconds. In nine minutes, I don't
need to watch the guys in frontof me do all their chipping and putting.
What I want to do is driveup and as soon as I get
to my ball, I want tolook up and see those guys walking off
the green. So if you justgive them a little time, put a
(02:02:09):
little space in between you and thegroups in front of you, then everybody
will have a much more enjoyable experience. So anyway, the reason I bring
that up is I finally saw thevideo and there was more to the story
than just two groups of golfers mixingit up. Apparently one group was just
(02:02:29):
a bunch of regular old dudes andthe other group, much to the regular
old dudes dismay, the other groupwas some MMA fighters and it didn't it
didn't turn out all that great forthe guys who were described in the story
as dads. Now that's kind that'skind of derogatory to describe dads as incapable
(02:02:56):
of defending themselves, and who knows, maybe some of those fighters were also
dads. But you could clearly tellin the video which group was the MMA
fighters and which group was not. From the way things were going for the
was nots it was interesting seven twoone two five seven nine email we Dugpike
(02:03:18):
and iHeartMedia dot Com I had thispast week some stories from the and I
we finally got a resumption I thinkI hadn't seen one in a long time
of the game warden field notes fromthe Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. And
despite all of our efforts, allof this audience's efforts to improve our stewardship
(02:03:45):
of natural resources in the state ofTexas, there are still those among us
who really don't take it that seriously, who really don't care either about the
resources or the laws or both. And thank goodness, just thank goodness,
we've got those game wardens out theredoing this stuff. Employee with a mobile
(02:04:06):
home part contacts the Harrison County notHarris County. Harrison County game wardens found
eighteen This is back in the wintertime, found eighteen ducks in the park dumpster.
So he follows a lead from theproperty manager that wardens do. They
(02:04:28):
follow a lead and figure out whothis guy is. He said he had
attended a guided duck hunt and acceptedducks from two other hunters without getting them
to give him a document that saidit was okay to have that stuff you
if you're going to carry somebody else'sducks, if you're carrying more than your
(02:04:51):
limit, then you have to havea document. It doesn't have to be
formal, it doesn't have to benotarized. It doesn't. It's not a
formal contract. It just basically says, if I'm giving my ducks to Adam,
I have to give him a notethat says my name's Doug Pike,
my hunting license number is x yZ, and I have given him five
(02:05:14):
ducks or four ducks or two ducksor whatever. And it's actually a good
idea is who named the species ofthose ducks as well on the document?
And I'm having him transport them fromhere to there wherever here and there are.
That keeps Adam from getting any troubleif he gets caught that way with
(02:05:34):
those extra ducks. Well, thisguy, he got him back to the
campsite there, the mobile home parkor whatever it was, Yeah, and
just decided he didn't really feel likecleaning those ducks anymore, so he just
tossed him in the dumpster. Multiplecitations and warnings were issued for failing to
(02:05:57):
keep them in good shape. Forin edible condition is the actual rule possession
of ducks without a wildlife resource documentthat's getting them from the other people,
and violation of the daily bag limitfor lesser scalp and over the limit possession.
So in addition to the criminal charges, he'll also have to deal with
(02:06:23):
civil restitution. And I'm not sureexactly what the number is on ducks,
but he's gonna have probably. Let'seven if a few of those were actually
his and he could figure out whichones were which, he's still going to
be oh in the state, nomatter whether he's found guilty or not.
We're about sixteen, We're about adozen ducks. Let's call it. Let
(02:06:45):
me go see what's going on withold Bob here? Stand by, Hey
Bob, what's up? Man?Will you get that on the head?
Old Bob? As your golf game, Doug, it's not horrible. I
feel like I'm not playing that well, but my handicap's not going up either,
so I must be scoring a littlebetter than I feel like i'm playing.
(02:07:09):
I'm just I'm wrestling with a coupleof little simple demons. I'm really
good on the range, and thenit gets in my head, you know,
Yeah, then you walk a parkinglot to the golf Fortunate it doesn't.
Yeah, if I would just stayon the range. People think I
was really good. I know yourboys playing pretty good. Oh yeah,
(02:07:29):
yeah he's killing me. Yes,he's a real quick Yeah, I got
a quick question for you. Uh. There's a lot of copy GUIDs and
white bass guys on Lake Houston.Do they have to have a captain's license?
I don't think they have to havea captain's license because I believe that
(02:07:50):
applies only to US Coast Guard navigablewaters. So I don't think that's the
case. But don't hold me tothat. If Captain Scott's still listening,
I know he'd know that off thetop of his head because he's had one
for years guiding down there on thecoast. But I don't think they have
to. I just wanted to becausewe got so many guys guiding on Lake
(02:08:16):
Houston. Now they're just killing thecrop because yeah, they take five guys
out and catch a hundred fish.Wow to me, my limit on crop?
He is five? Yeah? Yeah, the trouble. Yeah, they
horror very prolific fish, provided they'vegot good cover and whatnot, and Lake
Houston provides them that. But yeah, I only take what I can need.
(02:08:41):
Sure that's five? Is the playereat fresh? Right? Yeah?
And I the first time. Lastnight. I ate white bass I always
heard how bad they were, weren'tgood. We caught something the night before
and I, you know, flaidhim out and put them in salt water
and ice overnight, and my cousin'swife baked them. My goodness, were
(02:09:03):
they good? You know who tellsyou that white beasts don't? You know
who tell you white beasts don't tastegood? People? People, the same
people who'll tell you. But I'llbe happy to take them off your hands.
Oh those guys, hey, usuallywe don't keep them. I found
something interesting here, Bob. Ilooked it up. I was typing.
I don't know if you could hearme. I typed into Lake Conrod Guides
(02:09:26):
because I didn't know if they'd seeanything. On Lake Houston to Lake Conro.
Guides need captain's license. And whatI found is to legally lead paying
fishing trips along the Texas coastal Bendbays, a professional guide must have two
licenses. However, I don't seeanything yet, and I'll keep looking.
(02:09:48):
Maybe during this next break. Yeah, we got to go to break here.
I'll look during a break and seewhat I can find for you.
I still don't care if the freshwaterguides need one. All right, Okay,
yeah they you two man straight,we'll see you all right. Yeah,
we're gonna take this last break ofthe program. On the way out,
I'll tell you about the Timber CreekGolf Club. Speaking of golf,
(02:10:11):
FM twenty three fifty one in Friendswood, great place to go to. It
up twenty seven holes so they canget a lot of people out a little
bit faster than an eighteen hole coursecan. Great food, great service while
you're out on the golf course.Plenty of beautiful holes down there. They
stay in good shape most of theyear, they really do. I know
the people who run the place.I know the GM pretty well. I've
(02:10:33):
known him for many years. Goodheavens he and I've got some shooting to
go do. As a matter offact, I need to set that up
for us. Timber Creek Golf Club. Great place for a big group,
great place for a small group. And twenty seven holes so they can get
all the more people out there havingfun and loving their games. If you
don't love your game, walk overto that big ten building next to the
(02:10:56):
range. That's where David Pilsner andhis crew, take care of business on
fixing swings the golf Academy at TimberCreek Golf Club. Make yourself a tique
time right now timber Creek Golf Clubdot com. FM twenty three fifty one,
a few miles west of the golfFreeway, timber Creek Golf Club dot
com. We are sportstock set ofninety. Are you ready? Listen online
(02:11:18):
at sportsnet dot com. Now moreDoug Pike yet a night. I'm sitting
along. I'm digging up seven nineat the Duck Pike Show. Happy to
(02:11:39):
report that the it's now a scar, the former cut between my right thumb
and my right index finger that juststarted right at the base of that and
led back up my hand about agood It's at least an inch long,
maybe an inch at a quarter. It's all healed up. Now there's a
decent little scar there. Nothing I'dbrag about. I've got ours all over
(02:12:00):
the place, man, I've beendinged up, beat up, torn up.
I did find over the break thatand I confirmed what I thought,
and I wanted to make sure Iwas right. Freshwater fishing. If you're
I'm reading straight from this, Ifyou're a fishing if you're fishing in a
(02:12:24):
lake environment and it doesn't have navigablewaters to the ocean, you're not required
to have a captain's license. Nonnavigable waters means there's no commercial traffic going
down them or up them. Iguess, so, yeah, that's kind
of the basic difference between need acaptain's license. In other words, if
(02:12:46):
you're not going to run into tugboatsand barges and tankers, if you're not
going to run across them, andyou're day to day fishing, I eat
pretty much any lake in the state, then you're good to go. Now,
if you're fishing up the Mississippi River, I got a hunt, you'd
need one darn near to the sourceof that thing, because once it opens
(02:13:11):
up just the least a little bit, once enough tributaries dump into it,
there is commercial traffic, and thatmay require them to have them halfway up
the country at least. I wouldthink one more story about bad guys in
the outdoors, and this one reallyepitomizes some of the attitude in parts of
(02:13:35):
Texas and parts of other states.I'm sure game Warden gets a call from
a guy who runs a hunting propertyregarding poaching on a neighboring property. This
guy said his son and daughter inlaw were walking to their deer blind when
they cross pass with some guy karinga rifle. The hunters asked the man
(02:13:58):
what he was doing, and hesaid he was headed to his dear blind.
The hunters didn't explain to this guythat he was on private property,
and his response was I've been huntinghere since nineteen eighty six and I'm gonna
keep doing it no matter what. And much to that guy's surprise, the
(02:14:24):
warden rolls up finds the guy sittingin his dear blind, hidden in the
brush. Not very well hidden apparently, and he was charged with hunting without
landowner consent and criminal trespass. Soif he's smart, he might be a
little less apt to cross that fenceagain. Fool me once, you know,
(02:14:52):
just a remarkable the gall and thenerve and the arrogance of some people.
I've been doing this all my life. I'm gonna keep doing it.
Well, No, you're on privatep pretty sure, I don't care.
I've been out here all my life. I'm gonna keep doing it. No
you're not. That's not how it'sgonna work. There's a story underneath that
about a bald eagle that got injuredand rehabbed and all that, and I'm
not going to tell you that, but I will tell you that the eagle's
(02:15:16):
nest out there at black Hawk, where I play a lot of golf and
catch a lot of fish, isoccupied still and there are two. I
think. One of the birds inthat nest I saw yesterday was an immature
bird. There's so much foliage upthere now. I couldn't quite get a
good look at it, and wewere my son and I were still playing
the game, so I couldn't juststop and watch and observed. But one
(02:15:39):
of the fully mature adults rolled outof the nest and moved over about I
don't know, to another tree, about maybe a hundred yards away, not
quite that far, about seventy fiveyards away, big beautiful bird, and
it left that nest not fifty yardsfrom where we were, so we got
full view of this huge bird. And then I saw rucas up there.
(02:16:01):
That's an old boy. That's anold time or word, isn't it,
Adam. When was the last timeyou said the word rucus? Ever?
Last time I was a cowboy?I guess, Oh, my gosh,
when was that ever? Never?Maybe like Halloween wants you really think you
said the word rucas. I don'tbuy that for a minute. No,
it's a fun word. Yeah,maybe so, but it's it's you wouldn't
(02:16:24):
say it though, would you?I won't, but maybe I'll say it
more. Now you should try toincorre this is we're gonna let's try to
have a word of the day,and if we forget tomorrow, it's fine
too, But a word of theday that I will ask you to include
in your conversation somehow. And thenI want you to give me a word
(02:16:45):
that I can drop on my fifteenyear old son to make him think,
oh my gosh, she may beunderstanding more than I think about what I'm
telling my friends. You got anythingfor me to use on my son today
to make him think I'm a littlehimper and cooler than I even am about
you. You could call your shoeyour kicks my kicks. Yeah, okay,
I'll go with that. I'll gowith that. Hey, son,
(02:17:07):
go get my blue kicks out ofthe closet. Perfect, I'll do that.
I will, I will, andhe will go. You know,
he'll just look at me and gowhat and he'll know, he'll know I'm
getting coached. Kid. Think ussome more too, and I'll think us
some old fashioned words or um hankering. You get a I got a hankering
(02:17:30):
for grilled cheese this afternoon. One. Yeah, that one's that one's That
one spans the generations. I guessI'll come up with some. Maybe somebody
can email a couple of words thatI can throw it at him that he
can try to weave into conversation withsomebody older. Okay, so I've got
both people's information for the games? Is that cract? Yeah, there's the
(02:17:52):
other one. Good, I've gotthat taken care of. I don't care
what cost Cod Hole Sale has forme today. I don't even shop there.
I haven't been there, although thereis one product that I buy pretty
regularly. That my son, becausehe ran through there with one of our
neighbors on the way home from school. They had to pick some stuff up,
(02:18:13):
tells me that I can get thesethings. I'm paying almost three bucks
a piece for these things. Itdoesn't matter what they are. And he
said he saw a box of themin there, like a dozen of them,
for less than two dollars a piece. So I might get my friend
to hook me up with a caseof those things that would last me three
months. Actually, all right,we have two months. We're gonna take
(02:18:35):
it. Take our way out ofhere, find our way out of here,
beautiful day, get outside, forHeaven's sakes, have some safe,
enjoyable fun with your family. Ifyou can wet a line, go catch
a fish. If you can playgolf, go play golf, dude,
Go take a walk. You onlyhave to walk like fifteen minutes a day
to get legitimate health benefit from that. That's a very small investment in your
(02:18:58):
health. And hopefully you'll live aslong as I have so far, and
as long as I intend to keepliving. God will and I'll be back
here tomorrow morning at eight, sowill Adam. We'll talk to you then, Audience,
