Last night we saw quite the show at Climate Pledge Arena, with Jewel Lloyd dominating for the Storm and Cailtin Clark needing more surrounding support.Chris Crawford of My Oh Why joins as the Mariners lose their 4th game of the series with the Yankees. This series would've felt a lot better in the split if the wins and losses were in reverse order. Chris thinks it's a bad idea to 'punish' Julio by dropping him in the order. He deserves a day off, but he's so good defensively that they don't have the ability to replace him in the outfield. As is true for the majority of the pitching staff, the starters need more run support. Dick Fain provided us with an outstanding Mariners stat and the numbers will shock you. Corbin Smith, All Seahawks on SI.com and Locked on Seahawks joins us for his new weekly segment! We got our first look at this year's Seahawks yesterday at the initial open OTAs. Corbin says it's evident that experience is being prioritized early on. It doesn't sound like Abe Lucas will be able to participate in any of OTAs or minicamp. Geno looked extremely comfortable yesterday and Corbin thinks Seattle can win playoff games with him...as long as they figure out the offensive line. Last night brought a historic crown for the Storm and the WNBA in Seattle. Was it a one-off for you as a fan? We were out at Seahawks minicamp yesterday and gained some insight from Mike Macdonald and Geno Smith. How are players adjusting to the new schematics and how is Mike Macdonald taking on his new reigns? We let you take a listen.

That's your number. Let's go.The Mariners wrapping up their series in New
York against the Yankees of New YorkCity. We'll get to that probably about
twelve twenty day. I think we'rechecking with our buddy Chris Crawford, a
my y postgame wrap up of theradio of the show of the series,

(02:30):
I should say with New York. We'll get to that coming up. If
not at twelve twenty, we'll doit at two o'clock. We're kind of
moving stuff around a little bit. We'll kind of see how how everything goes.
The other thing, we'll get tosome Seahawks sound coming up at two
o'clock today. Here from both MikeMcDonald and Gino Smith. They spoke after
we went off the air yesterday Idon't believe. Help me out. I

(02:50):
don't believe we've heard from Geno.Have we really in the off season much?
It's been a while. Feels like, Nope, we haven't. Unless
I'm just totally forgetting it. Thatcertainly could happen. But I do believe
it's to him when he signed hiscontract and that's the last time we always
talked to him little while. Yeah, I don't think he spoke during the
draft or anything. Right. Yeah, So we'll hear from Geno, and
then we'll hear from Mike McDonald comingup at two o'clock. We're going to

(03:12):
start a new feature today. I'mexcited about this. And one of the
things that is fun about this businessis when you meet people and you strike
up good relationships with them. AndI did that a few years ago with
Corbyn Smith, who does Locked onSeahawks podcast and SI dot com Seahawks coverage
and a podcast daily almost He doesa bunch of stuff with our buddy Rob
Rang as well. Corbin's got agreat football mind, does a terrific job.

(03:37):
I'm not sure if there's anybody atthe Virginia Mason Athletic Center in the
media room there that enjoys covering theNFL and the local team here, the
Seahawks, more than Corbyn Smith.I really, I honestly believe that.
Like I've never heard him complain aboutanything in terms of working and covering the
NFL. I think he's living adream and he just loves it and he

(03:59):
does a great job with it.We've had him on our Era a number
of times. He's been on othershows as well, but he makes a
serious commitment to it. Some peopleto travel wears on you and stuff.
Yeah, he goes out of hisway to bat Yeah, real to know,
Like he lived here, then theymoved his wife and him moved down
to Denver. She's going some medicalchallenges and so she's getting some treatment down
there. I think they'll end upcoming back up here at some point,

(04:20):
but he does go back and forthoften, and yeah, it is a
it's a massive commitment. I sayall that because I'm excited having developed this
relationship with him. I sit nextto him in the press box the last
three four years covering Seawk games homeand away. He's there with me,
especially road games will kind of getpaired together the way they do it,
and I really like talking to himduring games. I learn a lot from

(04:43):
him, and I love being aroundpeople I can learn from. That's why
I like having Humillanon or Greg cosellon. I like learning from others,
and he's one of those guys. All that's to set up this, We're
going to start a weekly segment withour guy Corbyn Smith, So that's coming
up starting at one o'clock today,so one o'clock on Thursdays. And what
we're gonna do is we'll do this, carry this through OTA's in Minichamp,

(05:03):
which means basically through the end ofJune, and then get him a few
weeks off and then we'll resume itduring training camp and a new sponsor will
tell you about as well. Comingup at one o'clock with Corbin, and
we're excited about that, Excited tohave that coming up and can't wait.
I think it's going to be aton of fun to have him on throughout
the year. So that's coming upwith that. So there's a lot of

(05:25):
c conversation. We were out thereyesterday. I was just talking to Greg
about this and cross talk what wesaw and what we noticed. I think
what I noticed more than anything wasa tone and attention to detail that maybe
this group needed to kind of getback to a little bit. And that's

(05:46):
not to disparage Pete Carroll or hisstaff, but the problem that I think
Pete ran into is he lost somany great and key staff members over the
last few years. I think ifwe look at all the issues that this
team had, it might be justthat the fact that they lost a lot
of guys. They lost a lotof guys to big jobs, a lot

(06:08):
of guys to coordinator jobs, hadcoaching jobs around the league, and that's
hard to make up for. Andthe leaders that grew up together as well,
who are on the field. Yeah, and I think that's a good
point, just the fact that, you know, they had such a it's
hard because they had this group thatwas really special, that was really self

(06:30):
motivated, self policing, took careof things internally, They did a good
job of protecting the brand and insidethe clubhouse. And you know what they
were able to do in so manyways was they they they they just didn't
need maybe the structure that sometimes youneed with a football team. Not that

(06:51):
there wasn't structure, but they theyjust needed they needed a fresh breath,
a fresh voice, The first impressionI had yesterday walking out there was,
yeah, man, this is alittle bit different business type atmosphere than we've
had. Head coach came out andthis isn't a criticism. It came out

(07:12):
later, like after stretching was over, kind of made a old chirp to
the media to you know us abouthey, his music loud enough, and
went out there and kind of laughed. You know, Pete would be out
there early with with his throwing gloveson, throwing the football, playing catch,
joking around. This dude came outthere ready for business. Just a
different approach to things, a lotof teaching, a lot of technique,

(07:32):
and a lot of attention to detail. And I bring that up just because
I spent a lot of time watchingjust the offensive line, even though it
wasn't the offensive line we're going tosee this year, but I did spend
some time watching the offensive line andseeing what they were up to, and
watching these guys and Scott Huff's attentionto detail. You take a misstep,
you miss this, you miss that, We do it, we do it
again. Let's let's start all overhere we go. And you know that

(07:56):
can be hard and tedious, butrepetitious, but I think that, you
know, I stay and they're talkingto Ray Roberts, former Seahawk lineman does
some radio media work in town obviously, and I walked over and I said,
this is this is the group. It was just him standing. I
go, this is the group. It doesn't matter what anything else. He
goes, Nope, you're right, this is Whatever else happens on the field
this year, a lot of stuffwill start it in with that particular group.

(08:16):
Now, they didn't have some guys. Abe Lucas never made his way
on the field, so touching onthat maybe a little bit later, I
think they're not mandatory. He's well, we know that, we know that
he's rehabbing, but as we mentionedthe absences, we should let people know
that this is Yeah, and likeDK metcalf wasn't there, but he was

(08:37):
there Monday. Like there's pictures ofhim on the field Monday when it wasn't
open to the media, and theSeahawks took you know, media guys took
their pictures. But I don't careabout d k mcff. I do care
about Abe Lucas. I think that'sa concern. I think that's a that's
one hundred percent of red Flag.He wasn't even out there, like Anthony
Bradford has something going on because hewas there in Jersey but not practicing but

(08:58):
observing. It wasn't even field he'seven watching the drills. I think that's
a concern he I know they wentand signed George Fant and Stone Forsyth wasn't
on the field either yesterday, butwe've seen enough of him to the difference
between Abe Lucas. The drop offbetween a healthy Abe Lucas at right tackle
and everybody else is significant. Somy big takeaway yesterday is and I know

(09:24):
we'll hear McDonald later. He didaddress and he says, yeah, you
know, we won't see him beforetraining camp. When I hear we don't
see him before training camp, firstof all, that screams a guy that's
going to start training camp pup probablyand you just hope, like hell,
this guy, whatever's wrong, ishe gets fixed because it's been a couple
of things. Remember that after thefirst year shoulder was a problem going at

(09:46):
you know, like also, he'snot practicing and he's not at OTA's in
mini camps or he's standing around what'swrong? And we find out later he
had a shoulder issue. Now it'sa knee issue and a leg issue.
Like this guy needs to be healthyfor this team to reach its full potential
offensively. You've invested him and Cross. You've got to get those guys healthy.
That that is my right now,my biggest concern. Linebacker will talk

(10:09):
about this with Corman. I thinkthat's a concern. Not because Baker wasn't
present. Again, like Jess said, it's not mandatory, but Dotson was
there, didn't do a lot.Hopefully he's healthy and gets out there and
is ready to go. I thinkthat's a question mark with those two guys.
Secondary, solid, steady, they'refine, corners, deep, really

(10:30):
good. A lot of defensive linemenweren't there yesterday. Don't care about that,
couldn't care less if Leonard Williams doesn'tshow up or Draymond Jones right now,
especially if they're some of the otherOTAs. I think sometimes those guys
they're veterans, they're smart, theydon't want to deal with talking to us,
they don't want to deal with anything. They don't but if it's a
close practice, they're probably there, kind of like DK the other day,

(10:50):
right that's it's just if I'm goingto miss one, I'm a miss one
when you idiots are there. That'swhat That's what they're thinking, right,
that's what they're thinking about. Idon't blame him at all. I don't
blame them one bit at all.So lots to get to it that Corbyn.
I'm it's really excited that we've nailedCorbin down to exclusively on our show
starting today at one o'clock. Andlike I said, I enjoy talking to

(11:11):
him. I enjoy talking to guysI learned from and I do enjoy learning
from Corbyn talking about talking football withhim. We got daily power play today.
We'll get to that at one fortyfive. We'll touching on what happened
last night at Climate Pledge Arena inwhat was really a historic night in a
lot of different ways. Storm win, which is good. You didn't want
to lose to a team that waswinless and drop to one and four and

(11:33):
watch them improve to one and four. So instead Storm get their second win,
which is great. They got someissues too, they don't injuries and
what have you. But more peoplewatch the WNBA game, both on TV
and in person than ever before inthis city. On a Wednesday night,
which is pretty darn cool all that. Coming up today, we'll wrap up
the Mariners mostly yeah, we'll wrapup the Mariners loss for we believe.

(11:56):
Coming up next nine three point threeKFM Live from the R and R Foundation
specialists broadcast studio back to Ian Furnetz, powered by Seattle's closest sportsbook, Snow
Call me Casino on Sports Radio ninetythree point three kJ R FM. You

(12:22):
got a final score Major League Baseballthis afternoon, the tale of two very
different series in a four game set. First two good, last two not
good. A split. We saidwe would have accepted it, so we
accept it, but it feels kindof like a little bit of a letdown
when it's all said and done.Manors losing today to the New York Yankees.

(12:46):
The final score five nothing, nota Manors with just three hits in
the ballgame. Luis Castile takes theloss. He drops to four and six
on the season. Yankees out hitSeattle eleven to three in the game,
got a couple home runs along theway, and Seattle really until the ninth
they didn't didn't even really threaten itall. They had two autumns two out

(13:07):
in the ninth, but that wasabout it. In terms of runners left
in scoring position, they did reallynothing in that regard. They were zero
for six with runners in scoring position, and like I said, the only
ones came at the end of thegame. So joining us right now on
the beacon plumbing a hot line.Did this Golake last week? It was
or two weeks ago after the Minnesotagame on the road. They played these
early games and kind of feel likebefore he does his mile Y on YouTube,

(13:31):
be good to get one half ofthe Molly Whoppers Chris Crawford on here
of course mile why every game afterevery game courtesy of YouTube. We'll tell
you more about that in a secondwith the recap of the Mariners, But
let's go ahead and recap this game. A little radio version of mile Y.
Shout out to Simply Seattle Mollywop fifteenat checkout for your Simply Seattle discounts
as well, Christopher five. Nothinggood series in a sense, we all

(13:54):
said we would take a split, but we probably weren't thinking that after the
first two. Huh, aren't youa little concerned that people are going to
get a little tired of my voiceat this point? No I care but
it's it's made. Nobody cares. It's fine. Okay, No, the
proper answer is absolutely not. Becauseyou have a lovely voice. Yeah,
thank you, my friend. Yeah, I was telling Jess because she's nice

(14:20):
to me when she's talking to me. If we would be feeling a little
bit different. I think about theseries if it was reversed, If you
get those last two wins to end, it feels like, you know,
whether you believe that momentum is areal thing in sports or not, it
would feel a hell of a lotbetter going into this series against Washington.
But they did not look good overthese last two games, and they especially
didn't get looked good today. Creditto Louis Heo, he is one of

(14:43):
the better young talents in baseball, and he lowered his era today to a
sparkling two point one one with hissix shutout innings today. But there were
some non competitive at bats today.I actually think Luis Castillo actually pitched pretty
well. The fact that he wasable to hold that lineup to just those
two solar homers, even though therewas a lot of traffic against him,

(15:03):
was pretty darn solid against one ofthe very best teams in baseball. But
there's not a lot of positives thatyou can take out of these last two
games. But if you had putsome sort of weapon into my head and
please don't do that and told methat this is how this series would go,
I would sign up for it ina heart. Well, because we
said that on Monday we did theMulliwap. It was like, Okay,
they come off losing two of threeto a really good Baltimore team, and

(15:26):
you're thinking, that's that's a bummer, But you know they were competitive,
good games for the most part.Right, we've kind of fel felt okay
about that series, said, heyman, all you gotta do is split
with the Yankees and go win aseries in Washington and you're good to go.
Like this ends up being an that'sa road trip we all would have
taken at the start, right,And but like you said, Chris,

(15:46):
this is it's weird how sports works. You win the first one and you're
like, damn, all gotta dois win one of the next three.
We split, that's right. Whenthe second one, like damn, we
got. All we had to dois win one more of the two games,
and we've won a series. Andnot only do that, but you
kind of go down with a whimperin these last two and you mentioned the
competitive bats. Let me start witha guy we always talk about. I'm
gonna talk about him again. Ithink he ends up going one for sixteen

(16:08):
in the series, and that's Juiorodriguezl for four today. Yeah, and
then move down to the sixth spotin the lineup. And you know,
I don't mind moving Julio down toin the lineup. I think hitting him
six My issue with this is itfeels more like a punishment, yeah than
yeah, to make your team better. Yeah, and yes, yeah,

(16:29):
that's my issue is that you're moreabout It looks more like a punishment to
have him hitting behind dom Canzone andMitch Garver in the lineup. All due
respect to those guys, you're reallytelling me they're better hitters than Mitt Julio
Rodriguez. Even with Julio Rodriguez nothaving a good series and the guy went
five for thirteen against Baltimore, Iknow yesterday was frustrating. He swung through
a lot of pitches he didn't have. He didn't look like he was having

(16:53):
his best time, and maybe that'sone of the reasons why they move him
down the lineup. It's possible, this is just a one game, but
I don't like the idea of punishingJulio Rodriguez. Man. I get it.
You want to put out your bestlineup. Your best lineup can't be
Huli Roger. He is hitting sick. Your best lineup cannot be that guy
only hitting three times in a game. I'm sorry. As ineffective as he

(17:15):
was in this series, he's beenmore than adequate enough to hit in the
top five or four spots for yourlineup in May. This is just way
too much of a we need tosend a message to this young kid.
For my taste, I could bealone on this, but I really didn't
like that decision. Okay, I'mglad you brought it that week because I

(17:36):
thought the same thing like when Ifirst saw it in the lineup, come
out today. He's moved down.Okay, you moved him down the lineup.
I mean, he's been one ortwo right for the most part all
year. You move him down. You move him down in the lineup six.
Okay, that's a little startling. And then you look at who's ahead
of him, and I know it'snot Listen, we all know all the

(17:56):
batting averages and to be all toend on I go ops if you want,
but let's just go batting average fora second. JP Crawford two oh
two, Dylan Moore forty eight,Dealing More two forty eight. But he's
been hot. You can live withthat, okay. But Luke Rayley two
eighty nine, the hottest of theMariners right now is hitting third. Sure,
that's fine, Mitch Garver, MitchGarver a one point eighty four batting

(18:18):
average right now is hitting fifth.Dom Canzone two oh eight. And then
Julio Rodriguez, I don't know whereyou would have hit him. And maybe
it's very symbolic, but I can'tsee, ever, ever, ever,
a situation in which Julio Rodriguez shouldhit lower than fifth in your lineup,
right, I mean, I taketake him out of the cleanup spot or

(18:41):
third or second, what have you. But man, I'm with you.
It felt it felt penal, youknow, and that and Scott's service is
not Dave hackxtell but let me usethis comparison. And you know, if
you remember the end of the season, their last home game and they had
the young guys all up, Winardand Morrison and Shane right, and in
the last game against a awful theworst team in the league, not like

(19:03):
just not just record, just theworst team in the league personnel wise,
they couldn't score and San Jose comesin and Dave Hackstall basically benched the young
guys, especially Wintered in in thethird period, and afterwards he says,
well, you know, young guywas a little lost out there, so
we didn't get much ice time inthe third. I'm thinking to myself,
you punished the young player on yourteam, the future of your franchise,

(19:23):
because what he struggled, he whatthere were seventeen other guys struggling, Like
what are you doing? You know? And so I'm looking through here,
I'm thinking, so is Julio theonly guy struggling? Like they just felt
very Dave Hackstall penal Like like yousaid, I just don't I don't get
that with Julio. If there's oneguy I'm not punishing, and there's one
guy I'm giving the benefit of thedoubt drop him down. But yeah,

(19:45):
that did that did seem a littleweird today. Yeah, I mean,
honestly, I would rather have beenjust get the day off and off.
Yeah, the problem with him gettingdays off. Is they're just not good
in defensively without him. I meanthat would be calling it the worst defensive
outfield in baseball without Julio Rodriguez wouldbe an unbelievable understatement. Because you have

(20:10):
no real center fielder there. You'dprobably have to play Dylan Moore. Best
of luck to you having Dylan Moorecover through don Can Zone and Luke Braley.
It's just not going to work out. That would be the ideal thing,
though, is to have a rosterwith you have a competent defensive guy
that could go out and play centerfield for you, and give him the
day off, give him a chanceto watch. You could extremely excuse it,

(20:32):
especially knowing today to travel day,you know, give him today off
and knowing that you're going over toWashington, d C. Have a lot
of time between the next game.Give him a chance to rest, give
him a chance to watch. Idon't get penalizing him that. It's almost
like you're trying to embarrass Julio Rodriguez, And I'm sorry, I just don't
think that's a good looks. Itwouldn't be a good look for a twenty

(20:52):
eight year old veteran I think it'sespecially not a good look for the guy
who is clearly the future of yourfranchise. I want to I'll get off
here in a second, but justone more thing. What do you see
in Julio's game right now? Imean, like said, he nice series
in balls more five to thirteen, but just kind of over over skis just
is it just four games that justthen okay, we move on, no
big deal. I think it's somewherein between. Like, there's no question

(21:15):
about it that Julio Rodriguez needs tofigure out what he can do about driving
these baseballs. Now. My colleagueat NBC, Eric Simolski, brought up
that he has sixteen polled line drivesthat have hit in the air and one
home run on that that's extremely unlucky. That is definitely a case where the
ball is just not finding its homeover the fence. You know, there
is no doubt that there's been somebad luck for Julio, and there have

(21:38):
been some really good moments. Butthat's not to say that Julio is completely
not complicit in some of these struggles. We expect a lot more from him.
Two fifty seven three h six threetwelve is not even close to good
enough for Julio Rodriguez. It's notgood enough in the average category. And
they need him to be a contributorin the average category. They need him
to put those balls in play toget runners from first to third. Need

(22:00):
that category to matter. They needthe on base percentage because of course you
do. The ultimate goal is toget on base, and the selection percentage
just flat out and excusable. Hehas to start dragging the baseball more.
But I think you'd take away fromthis series number one, the New York
Yankees have some really good right handedpitching. And number two, people are
going to struggle. We will see. Have you taken a look at what
Josh Rojas's numbers are compared to whatthey were just a little bit ago.

(22:22):
Yeah, And then you mentioned theaverages in the on base percentages of the
guys that we're heading ahead of him. There's lots of guys who are going
to go through struggles right now.We just have so much expectation for Julio
Rodriguez that these sixteen at bats, these this and now looks we're close to
a quarter of the third of theseason done and the power numbers aren't where
they need to be. But Ijust think we sometimes just need to take

(22:45):
a break, realize this is atwenty three year old, and realize that
you're going to have ups and downs. That's happened in twenty twenty two,
it happened in twenty twenty three.I'm not sure why we completely thought it
wouldn't happen in twenty twenty four.Chris, I like your thought, though.
I understand that. Yeah. Imean, I guess is it Dylan
Moore is your backup center fielder?I guess right, Yeah, yeah,
I guess. Okay, I understandthat part of it. I guess I

(23:08):
would have I tend to agree withyou. You know what, if you're
gonna take one of the shorts, just taking the shorts and give him the
day off. Let him get hishead right. Yeah, you know,
let him get his head right. But all right, let's talk Luis Castillo,
because sometimes numbers can be deceiving. He takes the loss, goes just
five innings, only gave up tworuns they were both solo home runs,

(23:29):
walked three but only his three tothree walk strikeout. Not his best,
but he gave you at least alittle bit of a chance. He falls
to four and six on the season, and the mirrors as a team when
he pitches, and this is alwaysthe number I kind of like to look
at. I know, you know, wins and losses for pitchers. We
all know where that's at. Now, how about when he starts, So
his starting, the team's record thisseason is now five and six. They're

(23:52):
below five hundred when their best pitcherpitches, By the way, just for
reference sake, they're also below fivehundred when George Kirby pitches, and they
are only two games above when LoganGilbert pitches. Like they've got it,
like they've got to give this guymore help, don't they. That's not
like he gave you a little bitof a chance. Yeah, I actually,
like I said in the earlier portionof the show that Luis Castillo I

(24:14):
thought, I mean, sometimes whenwe say the word battled, what we're
really saying is he's stunk, andit could have been a lot worse.
But I actually think Louis Castillo reallybattled in this game, Like clearly did
not have his best command or control, nowhere close to it. Fifty four
of ninety one pitches lighting for strikes. He issues those three Walks gives up
seven hits, two of them absolutemolly whoppers to two of the strongest guys.

(24:37):
Like those guys could address for theSeahawks this year. I think I
think Aaron Judge and Jay car Andboth could come in on third death and
get to the quarterback. They're juststrong dudes, and if you leave the
pitch anywhere near the middle of theplate, you're at risk of having something
really really bad happened to you.But I was really impressed that he only
outside of those two solo homers,he went unscathed. He was able to

(24:57):
get out of those jams. Ithink sometimes people view Luis Castillo as a
guy who can't battle through these things. I think this start against Baltimore and
the start against New York is proofthat he certainly can. Like he didn't
have anywhere close to his best stufffor command against either of those lineups,
the best two lineups in the AmericanLeague, and it is not even freaking

(25:18):
close, and he was still ableto only give up five runs over eleven
innings. Over that, I willtake that absolutely every single time. They
just got to give this guy someon support. I mean, it's true
for Gilbert it's true for Castillo somehow, it's true for Tim Leary and Dave
Fleming. They just have to scoresome dust damn runs for these pitchers,
man, because right now what's happeningisn't good enough. These starting pitchers are

(25:42):
giving you a chance to win.Your lineup is not giving you enough of
a chance to actually come through withit. Chris Crawford joining us, the
one half of the mally Woppers. Also, you can check out my oy
on YouTube later on today as well. After every Marriag game. I want
to get your thoughts. This isyour world of expertise. They did make
a trade yesterday. They traded withthe Uh was it the Baltimore Oils,

(26:03):
Right, yeah, Baltimore Oriols direct. Mike Bauman comes in. He's a
twenty eight year old pitcher. Seventeenappearances out of the Orioles bullpen this season
one and oh three four four ERA. He made one appearance today for Seattle.
Came out of the bullpen as well. Through about three pitches. It
was at Stanton's head right off theget go. I like that. Then
they also buried a cup on thedirt. Didn't like that. But he
comes out. They trade him forminor league catcher Michael Perez and oh that

(26:27):
Michael Press comes over. I'm sorryas well from Baltimore and Blake Hunt,
catcher who was the number one catcherdown in Tacoma, goes to Baltimore.
Thoughts on the trade, who they'regetting and what they gave up. So
I like this trade. And Balwmandid not look good today. I thought
he was overthrowing. A lot ofguys doing their debuts try hard, guys,
try try hard. In the firstgame, you're like, okay,

(26:48):
here we go right, Like, that's kind of what he's doing exactly.
Yeah, We've seen it so often. That's what makes debuts Like George Kirby's
debut on Mother's Day for his MLBdebut was so special because he wasn't overthrowing.
And that's how much confidence that guyhas in his stuff. But I
like Balman. You take a lookat the numbers. He does have control
issues. This is the reason whyhe makes the move over to the bullpen,
for sure, because he just doesn'thave the command to be a starting

(27:11):
pitcher. But he's a guy whothrows in the high nineties and you take
a look at his curveball, andslider. Both of those guys and the
pitches have an expected batting average belowone to eighty against them. And we
have seen Seattle do wonders with thistype of profile, Like if you can
get him to and it's a hardslider ninety two miles per hour. Remember
in when ninety two miles per hourwas like a well above average basketball.

(27:32):
Now these are what which is justabsolutely I'm gonna live forever. But the
amount of the amount of tilt thathe can get on that pitch on top
of having a good curve ball,I really like this. Perez is the
definition of a guy that you justwanted Jacoma in case everything goes wrong,
like cal Rally and Sevin Valla accidentallyknock each other in the head somehow and

(27:55):
you have to have a catcher forthe next game. There you go,
Michael Perez can be that guy foryou. But in terms of what they
gave up, you're going to takea look at Blake Hunt's numbers in Tacoma
and wonder what they're doing. Andhe was ranked as like around the top
twenty five prospects for them. Ihave no issue for this. There's zero
chance that Blake Hunt develops into astarting backstop for me, especially when you
have a guy like big Dumper, when you have a prospect like Harry Ford,

(28:19):
who you know has been mentioned intrade rumor stuff, but for now
certainly well ahead of that guy alittle bit of power and a pretty good
defensive player. But I think toget an arm like Balman who you can
develop I think into maybe not ahigh leverage reliever, but a guy you
feel confident throwing in the sixth andseventh inning. I have a lot of
confidence in what Seattle can do witharms like this. Have no issue with

(28:41):
the trade whatsoever. I know todaywasn't pretty, but at least he got
out of it without giving up anerd run. He's on pace to be
the greatest Mariner pitcher of all timeby era. But obviously, if you
take a look at at stuff today, it wasn't great. Wouldn't judge too
much on that. I think hecan help this person. Let's wrap it
up with this. Chris Crawford joiningus. Just give us a quick thought

(29:02):
if you could on the series upcomingArners by the way, twenty seven and
twenty four, three games above fivehundred, they're two and a half above
the Texas Rangers, who are inPhiladelphia right now. I do believe in
that game. The Astros did loseyesterday, so that's some good news along
the way. Next up the WashingtonNationals. Give me a quick preview of
that series before we say goodbye.Yeah, a team that's not playing very

(29:25):
well has gotten really shellacked by Minnesotafor the majority of this series. Some
decent players, some really good youngplayers like CJ. Abrams, and some
other young guys that have a chanceto be decent like Mackenzie Gore, who
they will face on Friday. That'san interesting pitching matchup. But this is
a series you should win. Washingtonis not trying to win whatsoever. They're

(29:45):
trying to build for twenty five andbeyond. By the way, yesterday's win
put their winning percentage in exactly byfour to ZHO, so we can no
longer even claim that they have theultimate goal going on here. But yeah,
this is the series you have towin. Tell peop about mile Y.
Well, it's a YouTube channel andI recap every single baseball game that

I think that's pretty rude, tobe completely honest with you. What are

hell? Let you texted a forty? Think? Is ter perfectly? Whatever?

(30:29):
Man coach in mile y and checkout on my video. Chris Crawford

and he gives me this information viahis Twitter account, but make sure
I saw it and gave me aheads up. This is a crazy number.
I wish I would have had thisbefore Chris was when Chris was on.
Sorry, so's my fault. Inningsleading by the Mariners this road ten.

(32:00):
Okay, so they know. Let'skeep this in mind. They have
played now seven games on this roadtrip. They've led in ten of those
innings, innings tied four, sofourteen innings so far through seven games they've
either led or been tied on thisroad trip. They have trailed forty nine

(32:24):
innings on this road trip and asDick says, it's an absolute miracle.
They went three and four so far. It really kind of is when you
look at that downpack that standpoint,it's it's kind of remarkable that they have
three wins when they have led atotal of ten innings. So I'm just

(32:44):
let's do this here go ready forradio math, jess, I love radio
maths. Fifty three, sixty threeinnings of baseball six ten. I got
it, sixty three innings of baseball. They've led ten of the sixty three
innings they have yet they have threethree, they have three wins, which
is actually fantastic. And as Chrissaid, so far, so good.

(33:05):
You fully expect to win, maybeeven sweep this series with the Washington Nationals.
And if you do that, that'sa hell of a road trip.
And the underlying numbers may not betoo good. They may be troubling in
terms of the trends. Julio's issuesafter a good series in Baltimore, struck
out a couple more times today. No power certainly a little bit of a

(33:27):
concern. But all that aside,it's still about winning games. And they
won three so far out of seven. Doesn't sound great, but concerning the
two teams they played, and nowthey get the easiest, softest landing to
finish things off. And then, ladies and gentlemen, your friends of mine,
the Houston Astros come to town onMonday for a four game set starting
on Memorial Day evening. So yeah, a good chance to kind of get

(33:49):
things going here the Stros. Yes, we should also point out the Phillies
doing us a favor. They're beatingthe Rangers right now, five to two.
That game is in the top ofthe eighth inning. Shout out to
them as well, So there yougo. Okay, coming up to the
two o'clock hour, we're gonna hearfrom Gino Smith and Mike McDonald. So
we didn't really get a chance tohear from those guys at all yesterday on
this particular show. We'll hear whatthey have to say and kind of decipher

(34:10):
that. Also, we'll get toin the one o'clock hour. Some thoughts
on last night's historical night at ClimatePledg Aarina with the storm taking on Caitlin
Clark and the Indiana Fever historical ina lot of ways, crowd in the
building, crowd watching on television, all those things very much a positive and
the local team and the home teamwon as well, so that was good.

(34:30):
And the star that they all cameto see had a pretty solid game
with twenty one plus points. Soyeah, we'll talk about that coming up
a little bit later on when westart. When we come back, our
guy Corbyn Smith is going to joinus weekly visits with Corbyn all through mini

one of the rare occasions when wewere able to walk in and watch practice

I go to his website. Soldby Jim dot com. All right,
Corbyn, here we go. Let'sget this thing going. Let's talk about
first and foremost, yesterday. It'sthe first time we kind of yes,
there was rookie Mini caamp, butthe first time that we as a media
you everyone got a chance as mediamembers to watch and see the new era

(40:07):
of football with Mike McDonald, withactual veterans and guys are going to be
on the fifty three man roster onthe field. We'll get into specifics in
a second. Let's just get generaloverall impressions. I thought yesterday was a
much more finely tuned practice than whatwe saw with the rookie Mini camp.
And obviously the rookie Mini camp havea lies out there that aren't going to
be on the ninety man roster,so it's it's always kind of chaos out

(40:30):
there. And when you have afirst time head coach running his practice for
the first time, then you obviouslyexpect there's going to be some significant changes
moving forward. But you see avery structured practice. And this is not
taking a shot at Pete Carroll atall, but we know that his style.
He was more of a freestyler.Mike McDonald's practice team, like,
they're more buttoned down. There's morestructure. You see a lot more rotating

(40:53):
groups for special teams drills. It'sjust a more structured practice. The music
was maybe a little bit louder yesterday, but it's still not anywhere close to
peak careful level. So uh,but really it's it's a new frontier and
yet there's a lot of stuff that'ssimilar in terms of the type of drills
the guys are doing. But itjust felt like it was a more structured

(41:14):
practice than what we've seen under PeteCarroll his coaching staff. You know what
we had I had on my showyesterday. Trey Brown came into our our
little media closet there in the offof the media room at the Virginia Mason
Athletic Center. We had a greatconversation with Trey. We'll probably replay that
tomorrow on a Friday, especially headinginto a long weekend on a Friday,
where we replay that anyway. Yeah, well, but he he brought up

(41:35):
a couple of really good points, and you know, I kind of teed
him up for it because I wantedto see if he would go down this
road. And I brought up theconversation of do you think that it was
needed the structure, the detail, attention to detail, maybe a little bit
more of a business like, youknow, less raw rod, just a
just a different vibe in terms ofwhat Mike McDonald is and what he brings

(42:00):
and his staff brings than Pete Carroll. And the paraphrase of me agreed,
He said, yeah, I thinkyou know every you know, every team
has a different personality, Every teamhas a different set of individuals, and
and those personalities that come with thoseindividual players. And and Trey's a pretty
serious guy. You've talked to him, you know, I think I think
guys like that Shannon Nuwosu, Ithink would I'd put him in that category.

(42:21):
Guys like that, I think embracewhat Mike McDonald's going to bring.
Do you think it was needed thisthis change in voice and kind of change
in indirection where they're going Not totake anything away from the greatest coach in
Seahawk's history, but just was ittime for a change? Yeah? I
think every single thing has an expirationdate, and unfortunately, when you look

(42:42):
at some of the things that happenedon the field last year, there were
a few games that jump out,but the Baltimore game, ironically, with
Mike McDonald being the defensive coordinator theother side, John Schneider has mentioned that
as a game that jumped out like, Wow, that guy there is going
to be a really good coach. It put him on his radar. But
I look at what happened late inthe season the Pittsburgh game, that was

(43:02):
the first time that I've ever seena defense for pee Herroll wher it just
felt like at times like they weren'tall in. It felt like there were
some times where guys were making businessdecisions and he just hadn't seen that previously,
and then that season finale with theway that some of the stuff was
handled the end of the game. And again I don't think that there was
anything necessarily wrong with what Julian Lovewas trying to do with the cigars,

(43:25):
but celebrating when you missed the playoffs, it didn't necessarily look like a good
thing either. It just felt likethings were too unrestrained last year, and
so I do think they needed tomake this move, and I think John
Schneider and the front off the leadershipgroup felt like, look into the way
that last season and they thought theyunderachieved the way the end of the season

(43:46):
happened, just the vibes there.I think that they realized, this is
the time we need to make thischange. And now you're starting to see
those more disciplined, more structured meansmanifest themselves on the practice field. Mike
McDonald Corbyn Smith joining us right nowas week we visit brought to you by
Jim Elliott, real estate broker soldby Jim with two MS dot com for

(44:08):
your real estate needs all right,Corbin, I a lot of different position
groups to look at the defensive line. I don't think it's even worth talking
about right. I mean, mostof those guys weren't even there yesterday.
I think a couple might have beenthere on Monday, but when it wasn't
open, but I don't think welike where's Waldough, it was like no
Leonard, no Draymont, no JayReid. Okay, we move on.
Let's talk about a couple groups. One also was missing somebody. But I

(44:30):
think it's the If it's not thenumber one most important position group to see
improvement from, it would be numbertwo. Behind that defensive line, that'd
be the other line of scrimmage, the offensive line. No way Lucas out
there. Bradford was banged up,so he didn't practice, But what do
you think you saw? You know, when would you glance down, what
were your takeaways from watching the offensiveline unit team drills or even individual drills.

(44:53):
It was clearly evident that experience isbeing prioritized right out of the game
here when you're learning a new offense, and even at the right guard position.
With Bradford being out yesterday, hedoesn't stand like he's gonna be out
very long. But mcclennon Curtis, who I think played maybe five special team
snaps last year, but he wason the team. He was with the

(45:14):
Seahawks and practice last year he wasthe right guard with the first team offense,
not Christian Haynes. So it's clearlyevident this group of rookies and this
is not abnormal. In fact, this is typical typical way that offensive line
and positions in generals handled. Thoserookies were all playing with the second team
offense, but is expected. Youhad Charles Cross, you had Lake,

(45:35):
and Tom was in Ola with Timmywho Gino Smith was raving about yesterday after
practice where he has developed his excitementlevel there. And then you had George
fan to the incredibly experienced. Nowit's weird saying that with him being a
guy that came into the league withlike no prior offensive line snaps at any
level, and now he is asavvy veteran playing at right tackle spot.

(45:58):
But you could see that experience isgoing to be prioritized here, at least
early on. I'm expecting there's gonnabe a lot of mixing and matching,
especially when Bradford's back in the lineup. It doesn't sound like they're gonna have
Lucas out there anytime during his OTAsmaybe not even ready for the start of
camp. So George Fant gets yourreps in and there're the reason that they
brought him in is a very goodinsurance policy at that tackle spot. I

(46:22):
the Abe Lucas, let me letme just go down that road for a
Hartbee. Let me just that one'sgot me a little concern. I'll be
honest with you. I think therehas to be concern for Abe Lucas shoulder
last year and then you know, shoulder, knee, whatever else is going
on this year. You know,I don't think we expected to see him
out there yesterday. He didn't comeout there to watch though, So I
mean, I just it was Ithink that's a concern. I think you

(46:44):
need him and Cross to be healthyand fanc your backup swing tackle and you
feel pretty good about things. Ifall of a sudden fans your starter,
I don't think he can feels goodabout things. Yeah, I would wholeheartedly
agree on that front. And asfar as Lucas is injury, you know
the way that they have been unableto provide specifics in this recovery. I
mean, I know teams are guardedwith stuff like that in general anyway,

(47:07):
but the fact that we're talking abouta player that last year Pete Carroll,
and I don't think he meant todrop this word, but he used the
word chronic on multiple occasions talking aboutthis knee issue, and early in the
year he was saying that surgery wasn'tsomething that was going to be required or
wouldn't help, and then he hadsurgery. So obviously, until he is

(47:28):
on the field and we see himmoving well and he looks healthy, you
know, there's gonna be some pessimismthere. And I think you can sense
that with a fan base that youcan obviously sense it with you know,
people that are around the team likeyou and I who get to watch practices,
that you know that is something rightnow. The fact that they're still
not sure if he's gonna be readyfor the start of training camp went as

(47:50):
far as I was told, itwas not like a major surgery or anything
that he had. It's not likehe had a court acl or something that
he's recovering from. I think thereis some to be a little bit concerned
on that front. And if GeorgeFan is going to be your starter,
then suddenly you're looking at is itgonna be Stone Foresight of the backup.
Is it going to be Michael Terrell, your six round pick that's coming from

(48:12):
a Division two school. The dropoff there without having George fan as your
swing tackle behind crossing Lucas, thatwould be a substantial drop off for a
line that does have plenty of questionmarks that need to be addressed here going
into the season. All right, let me switch to some other position groups
and things you saw once again Mikemcdonald'll hear him in the two o'clock hour,

(48:34):
but reiterated the fact that we're notgoing down the road of a quarterback
competition. Gino Smith, Sam howRyan Grubbs offense. It's may a lot
of stuff not in there. Weknow that the percentage is very low.
Anything, as a guy that's coachedand knows this stuff better than many,
anything jump out at you watching Ginoand the Ryan Grubb offense. Gino looked

(48:54):
extremely comfortable yesterday, and I knowthat if a May twenty second practice,
you're throwing against air most of thetime. But here's the thing, though,
I watched rookie Mini Camp and Ithink both those quarterbacks there's a reason
either one of his other roster theycompleted the less and fifty percent of their
passes against air, so it wasrefreshing seem two quarterbacks actually could complete the

(49:14):
ball against air. But Gino lookedreally, really good. He was throwing
at anticipation, He looked very comfortablewith the concepts connecting with his receivers.
He hit Jackson Smith and Jigba ona deep slot fade route. He looked
very comfortable in this offense. Sowhen he was saying afterwards, he's got
a good grasp, I think hedoes at this point, and the fact

(49:34):
he's had seven offensive coordinators in hisNFL career, this is probably pretty easy
for him. He knows what todo at this point adapting to a new
scheme. So I was really impressedwith what he looked like out there.
Having all of his skill guys comingback and that continuity certainly is helping.
As for Sam Howe, he wasmuch more hit and missed yesterday. Now,
there were some really nice throws thathe made, but there also were

(49:57):
some deep balls that he threw intodouble and triple cover bridge. There was
a couple of times that he airmaileddeep balls. He had d Eskridge wide
open and overthrew him by about fiveyards. On a deep ball that should
have been a touchdown pass. Butthere was also some really good throws from
him. So you can see thearm talent, you can see the things
the Seahawks are enamored by there. But it's clearly evident even at this stage

(50:20):
here. I mean, you'd expectwith Gino Smith being the veteran that started
a lot more games. But Ginois in full command already of this offense
what they have at least to thispoint, and so I think was an
encouraging first practice from him, andHall had some good plays as well.
D Eskridge refreshed my memory. That'sa name that sounds vaguely familiar. I
thought I saw number one on thefield yesterday. I joke Sam Hel part

(50:45):
of it, Corbin, It wasgood to see d astrictage out. I
mean, is he your fourth receiver? I don't know, maybe Jake Bobo,
what have you? Sam Howel? Was that what you would expect to
see from say, a rookie quarterbackwho was just drafted and coming into a
new team. Yeah, I thinkthat. I know he played. I
know he played a ton of footballthat year. I get that, and
for know who doesn't, Yeah,I get that, but like they didn't

(51:07):
draft a quarterback because and Schneider basicallyinsinuated this once those six guys went in
the top twelve because I got Samhow Like, that's their drafted quarterback,
right, even though they traded forhim. It feels as if that's that's
what they kind of have. Yeah, I think they are approaching this with
him being an experienced rookie quarterback asthe way they're looking at it. And
you know, he last year hadto adjust to Eric the Enemy's offense as

(51:30):
a first time starter. Now he'slearning Ryan Grubbs offense. There's going to
be some wrinkles in here that heis going to have a little tougher time
learning if he adapts. But thegood news is he's got a veteran quarterback
who has fully embraced the idea ofsupporting other quarterbacks in the room. And
Gino Smith did that with Drew Locke, He's doing you with Sam Howell.

(51:52):
So again, it's May twenty third. That was May twenty second for this
practice. I would not put twitchstock at what Sam Howell looked like out
there. There was still some reallygood throws. It's not like he was
an incompetent passer. We've seen thatat rookie mini camp what that looks like.
But I expect he's going to growinto the system. There just were
some throws that he was behind onreceivers. There were a few misses on

(52:12):
deep balls. I thought Gino lookedmuch more crisp at this stage. We'll
see what happens, but right now, I mean, obviously it is Geno
Smith's job. Sam Howell's going tobe trying to show the Seahawks, hey,
I might have a future as yourstarter moving forward. Geno Smith can
say, hey, I'm the guy, and why not stick with me long
term? So it is a veryfascinating position to watch. I don't think
I've ever had this discussion with youabout Gino. What are your impressions of

(52:34):
Geno? Like what? Like? How how far can a team expect Gino
Smith to take them or how farcan a team go with Gino Smith as
a quarterback. I think the Seahawkscan win playoff games with him. I
truly believe that. But the thingthey've got to get figured out is the
offensive line. As we were justdiscussing with Abe Lucas's uncertainty and the fact
that they're going to be breaking inthree new starters in the interior of the

(52:58):
offensive line. Is Scott going tobe able to get that group to come
together and be an upgrade over whatwe saw last year, because I think
that was the biggest reason Gino's numbersregressed last year and he missed two games
because of an injury that offensive line. There were times that Gino succeeded in
spite of them. Late in theseason, especially the Pittsburgh game, he
makes some miraculous plays getting out ofthe pocket, escaping early pressure, and

(53:23):
getting the ball down field. Theoffensive line is really the big key here.
I don't think he's elite by anymeans, But you know the fans
that say, I don't think wecould ever win a playoff game with Gina
Smith, I completely vehemently disagree withthat. You're a guy who's been in
the top six almost every major categoryamong quarterbacks over the last two seasons combined.

(53:44):
He's got the goods. This isan offense that I think is a
great fit for him. With hisability to distribute the football, be a
pocket passer, his accuracy, Ithink this is a great scheme for him
to be able to play. Andso I'm not gonna sit here and say
he can win you a super Bowl. But the idea that you can't win
playoff games, it goes down tothe O line. Is he going to
have the protection to get the ballto his weapons that he's got on the

(54:04):
outside. Are they going to havea run game that can actually complement him
this year? If they can checkoff those two boxes, Geno Smith can
absolutely win playoff games for you.Corbus Smith Joining Us. Brought to you
by Jim Elliott. Real Estate soldby Jim two ms sold by Jim dot
Com. Before I let you go. Defensively, linebackers a couple of guys

(54:25):
we expect to be a big partof it, Baker and Dodson. Dotson
there not really participating in a lotof stuff held out and then and Baker
wasn't there yesterday. So let mejust talk about in general terms, schematic
wise, what did you see ifand again no defensive lineman at least the
top guys weren't there. What didyou see from the D line or just
the front seven, and what youexpect to see defensively? Yeah, I

(54:45):
was tough with that D line, although you know your eyes gravitate to number
ninety one. I mean Byron Murphythe second looks like he was building a
lab, and so your eyes justgravitate to him every time he's in because
he just looks the part of acop first round pick out there on the
field. And you got to seeyou Chennan Nuosu fully healthy. No,

(55:07):
he had no limitations yesterday, whichis huge news for the Seahawks. So
those are two things that jumped out. As far as the linebackers spot,
these practices are really difficult this timeof year. You know this ian that
they can't tackle. There's no rappingor anything like that. So it's tough
to assess linebackers. But we gotto watch John Radagan and Patrick O'Connell as

(55:27):
the first team linebackers. I thoughtTyree's Knight looked pretty good to the second
team. There were a number oftimes where he plugged a gap and obviously
he can't make a tackle. MikeMcDonald was talking about that after practice yesterday.
You have to watch those plays infilm and say, oh, this
guy's in good position. He hada couple of plays he was in really
coverage that forced Sam Howell into incompletions. So I think the early signs with

(55:49):
Tyres Knight. Until we see thepads on, obviously we don't know where
he's gonna fit in. But thatis the player in this group that I
am incredibly intrigued by. Because youdon't make one hundred and forty tackle in
the college season by accident and havethirty two career tackles for loss. That
guy has playmaking ability. Is hegoing to be able to handle all of
his assignments in Mike McDonald's defense. That's going to be the key. What

(56:13):
I saw yesterday suggest to me,at least of the weekside linebacker spot that
this kid is off to a goodstart. He's in Mike McDonald's ear all
the time. You can see iton the practice field, So I'm encouraged
on that front. You got toget your two veterans out there, though,
so you can get this defense meshingmoving forward. Corbyn Smith joining us,

(58:46):
night Historic Night in a lot ofways, big crowd, biggest they've had
for a storm game, and televisionwise, those numbers were good too.
I'm gonna throw a couple of thingsat you guys here in a second,
I'll give you a little context withsome of the numbers. Obviously the eighteen
thousand people in the building, andyou know, it's it's exciting, it's

(59:13):
it's awesome to see what Caitlin Karkhas brought to this league. More eyeballs,
Dick Faine said last night in thelease, one of the two said,
you know, hey, this isyou know a lot of people watching,
maybe I haven't watched or been herebefore, and they got everything they
wanted. Hopefully that's like the youknow, the next step for the growth
of the of the w n bA to make it you know, fiscally

(59:35):
more, you know, well offbetter. So we're not arguing anymore about
you know, payment and things likethat. But I would ask this,
what was it a one off foryou? If you're listening to this show
and I see listen, we seethe text four nine four or five one
tell them more new text line. When it's game time, we see the

(59:55):
text and I know when I bringthis story up in these this this the
team up. You know, weget pushback a lot of times. The
pushback is simple, it's from faI don't want to know who cares.
You know, the normal, thenormal thing you get. And sports radio
is a funny thing because almost always, no matter what the topic is,

(01:00:17):
no matter what the point of discussionis, people feel the need not so
much to disagree with an opinion, but they feel a need to tell you
that they don't like a particular sport, no more so than the WNBA.
Like it's at the very top ofthe hate list. You either like it
or you're okay with it, ora lot of you just absolutely hate it.

(01:00:40):
A lot of times, if youdon't like a sport, you just
don't watch it. It's really notthat difficult. But there's something about this
particular league that gets people going thatsends a little old some of you guys
off a deep end sometimes in termsof your comments. And I understand that
it's not for everybody. The productis not for everybody. Not everybody enjoys

(01:01:02):
it, and that's just the realityof it. That style of basketball,
which is very different than the men'scollege game or the NBA. It just
is a different brand and style. It's a different way to play the game.
I don't always Alyssa brought up yesterdaythe fundamentals. I don't know if
I go with that. I don'tknow if they're better at five. I

(01:01:23):
think that's a better way of sayingthey're not athletic, you know, when
you say they're better at fundamentals.I think I would disagree with the list
on that, especially watching late gameexecution last night. But I wonder how
much of yesterday was a one off? And you're speaking for the fans,

(01:01:44):
yeah, from the fans, washow much of it was? Because I
don't think there's any doubt that peoplewere in the building because of Caitlin Clark.
I don't think there's any doubt thatpeople watched in terms of the numbers
they watched last night because of theCaitlin Clark factor. Playing our team here
locally. Wasn't Caitlin Clark playing againstthe Connecticut Sun or the Mystics or the

(01:02:04):
Links or the Sparks or anything likethat. It was Caitlin Clark playing against
the team from Seattle, Jewel Lloydand the Seattle Storm. So the question
is does that build your interest up? Did you see enough yesterday? And
I dare even ask this question, but I think it needs to be asked.
Did you see enough yesterday to makeyou more of a fan, more

(01:02:25):
likely to watch the WNBA, notjust because of Caitlin Clark, but for
many of you who tuned in forthe first time, maybe ever, or
for the first extended period of time. Did it do anything to change your
opinion of the league? Has shedone anything to change your opinion of the
league? I wonder that I lookat the numbers last night. This is

(01:02:51):
the number of viewers. I won'tgo through ratings anymore because it's how they
dictate television. It's just different. It's changing all the time. Mariner's twenty
twenty four average on Root Sports isone hundred and fifteen thousand people. That's
P two that's person's two years ofage and older. Okay, so that's
the most wide ranging demographic. Onehundred and fifteen thousand people on average watching
Mariner game on TV in twenty twentyfour. The Cracking in twenty three to

(01:03:15):
twenty four averaged about thirty thousand peopleper game. Their numbers dropped off a
cliff in a lot of ways fromthe start as well. I mean,
like playoffs last year that those numberswere massive. Regular season they started strong
and as a team fell apart. The numbers fell apart. Yeah, they
didn't quite come back either. Andhere's the other problem, root sports to

(01:03:37):
not roots. I'm sorry, that'sanother root sports thing. Infinity Slash Comcast
jacked them into a different tier onthe eve of the first Cracking game and
put them in a just an absolutelyawful situation, like an awful awful situation.
So those numbers were going to takea beating. If they're good and
playing a big game, those numbersare doubled in triple, it depends on
the game. That was the average. Then the team fizzled out, So

(01:04:00):
I'm not surprised by that. Thecop really for the storm would be this
would be the Sounders when they werestill on regular television before Apple Plus.
Sounders used to get at the Heyday, fifty thousand people watching a game.
This year, the two games they'vehad on Fox have been about forty thousand,
which is funny because they were, well, I'll be honest with you,

(01:04:25):
they being the local Fox affiliate, not happy with those numbers. Also
not surprised because the Sounders have justkind of been out of sight, out
of mind, hiding on Apple TV, not by their choice. That's an
MLS decision, they decided to godown that route. I think if you
asked Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake, either or both of the LA teams,

(01:04:48):
there's a number of teams around theMLS that probably would have been just
as happy to stay with their localTV rights deal. Not everybody had that
good of a deal. Kansasity,I think falls in that category. Two
Seattle had to follow the lead ofthe MLS, and so they've just kind
of disappeared and fallen off the faceof the earth in terms of the casual
viewers, so their numbers haven't beengreat. Last night, by all accounts,

(01:05:11):
was the most watched Storm regular seasongame ever. It was comparable to
pretty much equivalent to the most watchedStorm game in the franchise's history. And
there was actually two of those thatfit in that same category with about forty
five thousand people watching. And thosewere the final two games for Sue Bird
that series they had against I thinkit was Las Vegas a couple of years

(01:05:33):
ago, so all one offs interms of special events and of Sue Bird's
career playoff games Las Vegas, ohyeah, Kelsey Plum plays for them,
etc. Or last night with CaitlinClark. But in terms of regular season
games, standalone, in the middleof May, early part of the season,
that was the most watched game ever. So, first of all,

(01:05:54):
kudos to Elise and Dick and thewhole production crew for the storm putting that
together. Great job on the broadcast, although I could have used a couple
more replays in the last part ofthe game, just as an FYI,
we did the who the ball gooff of the hand? Here? What
the hell? But no, Idin'd it was. They did a great
job. They captured the essence ofthe building, which was cool. In
the essence of the building was outof control, like wild, fun exciting.

(01:06:17):
But was it a one off foryou? Did you watch it?
Were you? Was it a oneoff it? Are you going to come
back? Are you? Are you? You know their next game? Are
you going to tune in? Isthis something that hey? You know what?
I liked what I saw last night. It's fun to watch that game.
Doesn't matter if Katelyn Clark was playingor not, or did it.
I watched it with my son.His opinion was eh. Like, but

(01:06:38):
the funny thing is massive Caitlin Clarkfan like said he could and kind of
little Lissa talked about yesterday. Hecould watch her all day every day,
just how she plays, but therest of it maybe not his cup of
tea. And I know it's nota lot of your cups of tea either,
but just your thoughts four nine, four or five one. Tell them
what text line when it's game time. Also, you can SSID it's voice
tex go to the iHeartRadio app KJRpart red microphone boom. Yes, well,

(01:06:59):
what I was going to say, what Kayln Clark has done for me
and her phenom that she is isnot so much interest only in the WNBA.
I want to watch for the nextup and comer coming out of college.
So it's not only going to makeme pay more attention to the professional
league. It's going to make mepay more attention to women's college sports.
And this is very subjective. It'sjust me. I watched the entire game

(01:07:21):
last night, had a blast doingso. I've truly enjoyed the game just
because I don't know. I wasgoing for the Storm, but I wanted
to see Kaitlin be great at thesame time when she was here in Seattle.
I think you said something similar yesterday. I hope she has a good
game, but hope the Storm win. And both of those things happened.
She led the team and I thinkshe was averaging seventeen coming into this game.

(01:07:44):
And I think she's the third highestscorer in the league at this point
too. So it's not like she'sthis rookie who's you know, she's not
going to score forty like she didin college. She's not going to go
off that way. But she's upagainst better talent and that kind of even
the playing field when it comes toprofessional sports. It's the best against the
best anyway. What it does forme is a greater interest in women's basketball

(01:08:08):
in general and not just a wNBA. It's interesting, I think,
m Yeah, who's the next KaitlandClark. I don't know if there will
be a next Caitland Clark. Idon't think there And that's why Page did
not say that Paige Beckers is likekind of the next great thing coming.
Yes, and there will be alot of hype when she comes into the

(01:08:29):
league next year. By all accounts, she may into being paired in a
backcourt with Caitlynd Clark because that team'snot good around her. Yeah, that's
why I hit the number one.Overall, they are not good around her
whatsoever. But yeah, I thinkI guess the other thing I'm curious about
when we're in the final seconds,Indiana's got the ball, and I will

(01:08:51):
give Boston credit a little bit fromtwo nights ago because they were able to
run a successful screen and get JalenBrown open in the corner off of a
pick. The Indiana Fever tried todo the same with Caitlin Clark's, you
know, swinging around the top ofthe key on two different occasions. One
they're trying to set a high lowpick and it didn't work. And then
another time she tried to swing aroundand just a horrible entry pass behind her

(01:09:12):
that she had to reach back. She's coming to her right, hard passes
back behind her on the left. You know, she did a good job
just to get a hand on it, but tied up and obviously the jump
ball ensuit and all that fun stuff. But the the thing with with watching
that last night, I wonder howmany people were actually and I would have
loved I know I'm a bad personsaying this because it's the home team,
but that's that's fine. I wouldhave loved to have seen what happened.

(01:09:35):
If she would have got that shotaway and hit a game winning shot,
what would the building have been like? Oh boy, I think I think
I think it would have been Ithink it would have exploded. I think
I think I think the home teamwould have felt like the visiting team.
I really truly do. Now.The fact that they won, everyone's cheering,
that's great, But people came towatch her, and if she would
have got a clean look, ifthey would have had a better entry pass

(01:09:57):
and she would have hoisted one upand knocked it down to win, it,
think that place would have gone nuts. Maybe I'm wrong, could be
wrong, nobody. This is oneof those hypotheticals that we have no idea
what the answer is. But Ihave a feeling if she would have caught
shot, nailed it, thanks forcoming, I think the place would have
gone bananas because they paid ticket,They paid money to see her. That's
the bottom line, and it wasprobably the perfect day in a sense.

(01:10:20):
Home team won. She scored twentyone, people got to see the great
Caitlin Clark, but the Storm wonthe game, So it's all good.

to think where I fall in that. I'll flip the storm on. I'm
I'm a guy that'll watch it kindof casually. I put them in somewhat
of the same category as the sounders, although the sounders, again, you

(01:11:45):
can't find them unless they're you know, the five or six games a year
that are on broadcast television. I'mnot paying for the MLS package, and
just that's the that's kind of myline in the sand, like pay we
pay for a lot in the FernessHouse in terms of cable and subscript and
all that stuff. And I justdrew the line right there, and I'm
bummed. I'll be honest with you, I'm bummed a lot of times.
I'll be Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoonor something. I'm like, oh,

(01:12:09):
Sounder's uh no, you know,It's just it's a bummer. The paywall
is an interesting dynamic because I thinkstreaming is still the big We know it's
the future. The NFL already hastold us that they have put us in
that category of the future. Ijust don't think it was the future for
a league that is still a fledglingtrying to grow their fan base even after

(01:12:30):
all these years league kind of thefringe sport that is the MLS. But
with the store, I'm like,I'll flip on. They're on TV a
lot. I think Fox thirteen pluswe have a ton of games this year.
In fact, the majority of thegames or on Fox thirteen plus.
With Fine and Woody there, sowe'll get your thoughts on that. Check

on the Tulemordo text line when it'sgame time time perfect also voice text talkback,
love the talkbacks. Love to hearfrom you. All you gotta do
is click on the little red microphonel yougo. Okay, we were out
of Seahawks yesterday OTA opened to themedia. You're gonna ask yourself or ask
us, what's the difference between OTA'sand mini camps. The easiest answer is

(01:13:14):
OTAs are not mandatory. Mini campsare. You can do a little bit
more in terms of defending and soforth and contesting and stuff like that.
But really it's off season training.Mini camps are a different version except for
you have to be there. That'sthe one thing required in the collective bargain
agreement that comes up later on inJune. So there were a number of
guys that we didn't see on thefield yesterday that may have been there and
could have been there. Some weknow were there on Monday. They're in

(01:13:38):
their last workout for OTAs. Itwasn't open the media because the Seahawks posted
some picks of DK Metcalf and others. So there are a lot of guys
missing yesterday. Top of the list, most of the defensive line outside of
Bira Murphy, a lot of thestarters were gone. They weren't there.
They were short linebackers. Abe Lucasstill hurt. Abe Lucas just feels screams,

(01:13:58):
and I just it's the letters pup next to his name on day
one and training camp are just comingnow. And that's not the end of
the world. I saw you cringe. It's not the end of the world.
It's just I just really love aLucas, So I just feel bad
for him. That was my cringe. I feel bad for him because I
think the guy is just a warrior. Yeah he saw that through college just

(01:14:19):
as he's just one of those Hejust he played, He played every snap
and I just wonder now, likehow banged up was he at times that
But I just knowing what we knowabout who and what he is, you
know, maybe he was playing throughstuff in college. But they need him,
they need him, and they needCross to bounce back because he you
know, we talked about that alot with with our buddy Cosel this year.

(01:14:40):
Like Cross did not have the bestof years, but he was banged
up too. He was out therehealthy yesterday. That was a great sign.
I was like, of all,you know, he finished the season,
but I still wonder with Charles Crossbecause he missed a lot of time
and never felt like he was right. So it's good to see him out
there in an OTA setting. Butyeah, that's that. There's a lot
to discuss, but it's it's summerfootball. It's not even summer football,
it's late spring football. But there'sstill plenty to discuss. The top of

(01:15:03):
the list is a new head coach. That's the very top of the list,
a new head coach, Mike McDonald. After yesterday's OTA the first time
we've laid eyes on the Seahawks veteranswith the new coaching staff and Mike McDonald's
fourth terms of execution. But uhyeah, we're chasing it so on where

(01:15:23):
we go. There was a lotof communication, there was a lot of
energy. How would you kind ofwhere they are with installing, with retaining
what you have already presented to show. It's a challenge right now, you
know, we're still installing. We'regonna be installing defensively, shoot throughout.
I mean installed to is today andyou know, we'll evaluate it as we
go. So if the guys likewe're a real slow to make some checks,

(01:15:45):
say anticipate and things, so we'llmake some decisions so it doesn't pile
on so we we don't get toofar behind. But I'm not really worried
about the pace of how fast weget everything in. We want a really
good foundation for when we get intocamp. So we have a schedule,
but we'll adjust as we go.Thoughts on going with the game jerseys out
there instead of pracking jerseys. Itwants to behind that. Well, it's

(01:16:05):
something that they did in Baltimore, and the thinking behind it is we're trying
to make practice as much as likea game as possible. So how we
dress all the details, where westand, how we operate, how we
coach them up timing wise, like, we want the guys feeling like they're
out there playing. So let's justthat's kind of part of the equation.
How much time do you have tospend on the new kickoffs? I mean,

(01:16:27):
I wish I had the correct answer. We just stop, like,
you know, maybe with like threehours we'd just get the three hours and
stop. It's yeah, it's it'san ongoing thing. The rules have been
evolving throughout. That's something that weyou know, we're trying to stay with
it and uh be a lot oflike I don't want to say, like
experimentation, but that's kind of whatit is. Is what works in terms
of alignments and how we can playyou know, with things and who can

(01:16:47):
block what, and you know, the schemes. And it'll be interesting to
see because you know, we're notwe're not sharing secrets on how we're going
to operate and we'll have to adoptwhen you know, the league starts to
declare. You know, early inthe season, roopies kind of acclimate with
the veterans and now they're all heretogether working. Yeah, I mean,
it's just gonna take some time justhow to operate. I mean our vets
have been great, you know, like leading the guys and showing them routines

(01:17:10):
and keeping the competition high, butbring them along. You know, it's
a we want to respect everybody, and you know, the rookies have to
do their part as well to youknow, respect those guys that have kind
of laid the foundation in front ofthem. So we got a great group,
really excited that guys are working welltogether. What are your early thoughts
on seeing a healthy child and rosethrough out there, boy, Darryl Taylor

(01:17:31):
and both. Yeah, it's justit's great to see him out there and
working communicating. I mean, we'reworking through how we're gonna structure our past
rush and who's playing what spot andkind of what shakes down and what makes
sense and what hits and all thosethings. So I mean, this is
a great time here to to sharpenthe sword, so to speak, and
kind of understand, you know, build the foundation, kind of build a
platform to jumping off point for whenwe come back in the fall. And

(01:17:54):
then even even when that happens, you know, it's a you're gonna constantly
evolve of where you're gonna put guysand how you're gonna interact and what groups
you can put out there. Andif you're not doing that, you get
static and and you kind of becomeyou know, you know, offenses kind
of get a bead for what you'redoing. So you got to keep it
moving. He's highly competitive. Ilove how Gino works. We're pushing him

(01:18:15):
to take the next step as aas a football player and as a leader,
and and I think he's he's answeringthe call. So really excited about
uh about Geno up to this pointjust getting to know him, you know,
but just really had such a sucha respect for how how hard this
man works at his craft. Imean, I think he's coming along.
Fine. It's again, we're we'repractice. We're practiced too. You know,

(01:18:39):
there's funny you know, you're sittingin the offensive staff watching practice with
guys, and there's things that offensivecoaches notice with the whole team, you
know that you don't necessarily see fromlike the defensive perspective. So but I
thought he I thought he had areally good practice and he's slinging it.
But just like the rest of theteam, I mean, he's got a
lot of work on. You know, I got a lot to work on.
It's just but I think we allhave that mentality of how we want

(01:19:00):
to of how we want to approachit. So I think Sam's right there.
I think it's an exciting future. What if you learned in the last
month, maybe the last two days, about how to run the practice,
how do you endo well? Ithink I think uh, I think we
had a pretty clear vision about howwe wanted practice to go. I mean,
we want to be fast, wewant to execute, we want to
be loud, we want to getthe job done. We want to get
the heck out of here, youknow. So there's not a lot of

(01:19:20):
lollygagging around. But to make it, it's we want to we were again,
you don't practice practice, you're practicingto train to go play the game.
So a lot of the decisions thatwe're making are, you know,
inspired by that kind of principle behindthe whole thing. Where is Abe Lucas
and his whatever. It's hard,it's hard to tell, you know,
it's hard to tell. I man, we're shooting for camp right now.

(01:19:40):
So yeah, abs uh abbes gettingafter it and in rehab. So I'm
proud of his effort that he's puttingin. You guys are playing your forward
mentor Jim Harbad the first second game? Do you have interest in maybe doing
some joint practices we have down thelife down the line, maybe, but
this year we're not going to.But it'll be it'll be uh, it'll
be fun to see those guys andbe fun to go down there and then

(01:20:02):
get after it. A little bitGrayshawn Jenkins. What are you seeing out
of him so far? Shoot,I mean the things we anticipated off of
tape and off of like reputation, kind of doing our homework. But he's
going to be a leader on thisfootball team. So we're going to count
on him. And he's very talented. He's a guy that we can,
you know, play matchup with andhe can you know again, he can
do all the things we ask froma safety in our system. So off

(01:20:24):
to a great start and we expecta big year from him. All right,
there you go. That's Mike McDonald. We did mention yesterday. The
preseason schedule did come out. Bythe way, I should point this out.
Week one at the Los Angeles Chargersthat's August tenth, and Week two
at Tennessee that's August seventeenth, andthen week three against the Cleveland Browns out

(01:20:46):
is August twenty fourth. So itlooks like I believe he is correct.
Seventeen see ten, seventeen, twentyfour. All three or Saturday games.
The game against Cleveland, which isthe only home game, is week three,
and that's a seven o'clock start ona Saturday night on the twenty fourth.

(01:21:06):
I can tell you this. Ifyou like good beer, the twenty
third is gonna be a special dayat Georgetown Brewing. I think I know
it is, so it would bea good thing for your tailgating for that
preseason game. Chargers, of coursecoached by Jim Harbaugh, who worked with
and Mike McDonald worked for at theUniversity of Michigan before going back to the

(01:21:27):
Ravens working for his brother John. But he was there at Michigan with the
Wolverine. So that's kind of anintriguing little fun thing. Kong will have
that first game. Oh, Iwas gonna say, when what the hell
they got going on on King onthat first day? A little thing called
the Olympics. That's right, theyhave the Olympics. That's why it's on
Kong. Oh my goodness. Andthen the last two games are on King
five. So there you go.So that's the I forgot. Aaron mentioned

(01:21:49):
this, and I totally I mustbe oblivious to stuff. I am.
I not must be I am.I forgot that they were wearing their game
jerseys because their practice jerseys are usuallythey're nice, but they're not game jersey
with a trim on their shoulders andall that. And when they walked out,
the first thing I noticed was thequarterbacks were not in red. That's

(01:22:10):
what I noticed too, And I'mlike, oh, they were gonna throwback
too. They wore the quarterbacks, the two of them, and I think
Jason Myers might have had one too, but they they were wearing their blue
royal blue throwback jerseys, not redjerseys. The quarterbacks and then the rest
of the players were wearing their gamejerseys, which is wild, Like,
I didn't thought of that because andhe said, we want to practice,

(01:22:31):
and he's just thought it's little detailslike that, little mindset stuff, just
different. And I liked the facthe admitted they did that in Baltimore,
something he did bring from the Ravens. Yeah right, and yeh yeah.
And one of the things that JohnHarbaugh had was they practice in their game.
And it's not like these guys havea shortage of game jersey's, like
you know, high schools and collegecould never do that. Hell, they're
lucky to have any kind of jerseysthat work, you know, for practice.

(01:22:54):
Sometimes you're not trading after the game. No, yeah, so,
but these guys have enough of thosejerseys. It just probably means more work
for a buddy ek the equipment manager. But yeah, they did have they
look good. Actually, it looksreally good. So do we have we
heard anything about pre season or abouttraining camp? No, not yet.
There's nothing on their website. No, I try to find that out.
I usually midsummer weeks. I also, I'm assuming I assume that training camp

(01:23:20):
will be open. Oh you meanabout the fans coming. Yeah, we
do not know that. This isa different dude, man, this is
different. This is a little differentworld we're living in. SoJ super Sam
isn't out there for OTAs. Idon't know if he usually was anyway,
I don't think he was played themusic. But for the open practices he
was all right. I'll check onthat. Actually, okay, let me

(01:23:41):
do this. Say, let's getone more in Geno Smith. Haven't heard
from the quarterback for a while,QB one Gino Smith post practice yesterday.
Yeah, just more learning, alittle bit more studying. Obviously, a
new system, new coordinator. Uh, you know, knew everything. You
know, we're uh, you know, changing the guard here. And so
for me, just studying and gettingwith the guys. You know, a
lot of meeting, extra meetings, with the receivers, running backs, O

(01:24:02):
line, talking through some things, making sure that we're prepared when we get
out here for practice. And youknow, so far has been good.
So what are you doing differently withthose habits and with that study time.
You know, it's just a matterof repetition because it's all new, you

(01:24:23):
know, fairly new to uh,to all of us. I think Jack's
the only guy, you know,Jack Westover, he was already in this
system. But for the most part, everyone's learning a new system and we're
all pretty much starting at the samespot. And so like for us,
just talking about things that we maynot understand with the coaches or gaining some
clarity if we need it, youknow, whether that's for me or you
know, from one of the coaches. And that's that's something that we're just

(01:24:45):
continuing to work on together, youknow, just kind of learning this thing
and then obviously wanted to get outhere on the practice field execute and then
be able to coach off of that. Impressions. Very impressed man. Obviously
from the stuff that he's done college. He has a great track record,
and then just being a part ofthe system, being able to learn from
him. Uh. The type ofguy that he is, type of man

(01:25:06):
that he is, type of coachthat he is. I think there's gonna
be great things, you know, coming for us. And uh, coach
Grubb is doing a great job atyou know, being demanding, making sure
that guys are studying and on pointand knowing their assignments, but also you
know, giving guys some grace. You know, it is a new new
system, a new offense, andguy's gonna mess some things up, and
so that's not necessarily a terrible thing. We can we can gain from that.

(01:25:29):
So you know, Grub's doing agreat job, and it's our job
to make him, you know, make the place come alive and make it
all look good like the offensive placetwo years ago. Uh. Men,
I gotta, I gotta, youknow, get more reps in practice and
you know, obviously get a geta chance to go out there and you
know, playing the game to reallyhave a great assessment of that. But
overall, you know what, Ifeel like, I'm a drop back passer.
You know, I feel like thisis a drop back offense. You

(01:25:51):
know, on offense that's gonna spreadthe ball around, you know, trust
the quarterbacks to make the right decisions. Uh, that's you know, pre
and posting app and so I feellike that's something that I'm really good at.
So uh, you know, justwant to make sure that I'm doing
the right things when it comes tothat. You called yourself a drop back
pass, but you're supposed to justshot on you in the past. That
was a pr Yeah, that wasa I had twenty one thought. I

(01:26:13):
thought it was a mistake myself, but it wasn't. So yeah, I
had twenty one. So apparently, you know, the off season workouts and
stuff and paying off you guys pickit up in that same run a plaster.
Everybody beat me after that. Itwas like it was it was good
for that one day and then youcould see guys running twenty twos and then
I was at the bottom again. So, you know, and watching this
offense over you done the last coupleof years, it's a lot of shifts,
a lot of motions and stuff. It seems like you guys are bringing

(01:26:35):
that over here. So yeah, how much more does that put on your
plate with the shifts and the motions, more so than maybe what you've done
last couple of years. Yeah,I mean, we're not gonna shift the
motion that much. But you know, we'll be able to get out there
and do some things. And obviously, uh NFL quarterback man, that's gonna
be everything's on your plate, youknow, getting in and out of the
huddle, calling the play, makingsure guys are lined up in the right

(01:26:57):
spots, making sure the O lineknows what they're doing, and running backs.
It's always going to be a loton your plate. I think Grubb
again has a great system. Itdemands a lot from the quarterback pre and
post snap, and he has agreat way of giving us some answers.
And so the thing we have todo again is just you know, be
really disciplined with all of our reads, reading our keys, and then obviously
getting out there and making the playswhen they when they come about. It's

(01:27:19):
early in the installation process, obviously, but this is not the first time
you've had to learn a new offensein the NFL. How does so far
this process compared to say, whatyou have multiple offensive coordinators or in your
career in New York and going toLA and with the Giants, How does
it compare and how do those situationshelp you? Now in this situation,
I will say it's a lot easieryou know, when I first got into
the league, all the words theymeant nothing to me. You know,

(01:27:42):
now twelve years you know, alot of these plays I've run before,
a lot of the ways we executethings I've been around. It's just a
different language. And so as amatter of just learning the terminology and then
you know, obviously being able torecite it back to the guys in the
huddle and go out there and againmake the plays. So you know,
it's it's a lot easier for menow that I've you know, been in
the league a little bit, butit's still a matter of studying. And

(01:28:04):
I really take that series. You'rea sceiving course. Pretty much saw all
those same guys from from last yearwith Jackson and Jake, now there's here
too and stuff like that. Howmuch has that helped that there's so much
continuity there with the skill guys shoot, That helps a lot, you know.
I look, I look forward toguys making big jumps, you know
all of us, you know, the entire group. Uh, you know,
DK Tyler, you know Jackson,Bobo, Derek, Uh, you

(01:28:25):
know all those guys, and Ithink they all have a shot to do
some really good things. I thinkd had a really good day today.
I thought he made some really goodplays and uh, you know I can
see that group, you know, just continuing to make stride. You know.
Bring coach friz In, a guywho has a track record for,
you know, coaching great receivers.I think he's gonna be able to make
those guys better. And so Ithink as long as we continue to push

(01:28:45):
each other, continue to work hard, Uh yeah, we got we had
a real shot, you know, from you guys the quarterbacks, Like leadership
wise, you know, the mainthing is uh, you know, having
that presence you know, in thehuddle and in the locker room, and
that's something that a quarterback has tohave, no matter you know, who
the coordinator, who the coach is. You want your quarterback to be a
leader. You want your quarterback tobe respected, and that's something that I

(01:29:05):
think that he you know, hereally talks about and he emphasizes. And
then obviously being smart, you know, that's the main thing. Knowing what
to do. Guys respect guys whoknow their assignment and know what they're doing.
And so making sure that I'm alwaysthat guy who's prepared and that allows
the guys around me to feel comfortableknowing that the quarterback's prepared. There you

(01:29:26):
go. That is that is GenoSmith, Seahawk quarterback. With some thoughts
on training camp, new offense whichjust I think Gorman mentioned this earlier.
We had a Corpin Smith on hisweekly visit with us. It's something he's
used to in his career in hisdecade plus in the NFL, is having
new offenses and new coordinators that getseven in his first seven years, so
not a big deal. But theRyan Grubbs offense, you find to watch

(01:29:47):
how that thing develops through the restof OTS mini camps and then of course
into training camp as well.
