(00:00):
This is Charleston's Morning News with Kellyand Blaze. Now the top three things
you should know. Last night's Republicanpresidential debate went on without front runner Donald
Trump. Two of the seven candidatestook shots at the former president. Florida
Governor Ronda Santa said Trump was quotemissing into action, and former New Jersey
Governor Chris Christie said Trump would ratherquote hide behind his golf clubs than defend
(00:25):
his record. Several candidates also piledon biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. South Carolina
Senator Tim Scott criticized Ramaswamy for hisbusiness ties to China, while former South
Carolina Governor Nicky Haley called him outover his use of TikTok and South Carolina
Senator Tim Scott also condemned Ramaswamy's formerties business ties to China. Florida Governor
(00:50):
Roda Santas said he wants the Europeansto pay more to fund Ukraine in its
battle against Russia during the second presidentialGOP debate on the Fox News Channel.
De Santis then pivoted on the topicand said more funds need to go to
the southern border. South Carolina SenatorChim Scott said it's in America's interest to
degrade the Russian military. Biotech entrepreneurof Evak Ramaswami blasted the government of Ukraine
(01:17):
and said a reasonable peace plan thatbenefits America must be sought. Taylor Swift
has inspired a new condiment from HinesKetchup. The pop superstar was at Sunday's
Kansas City Chiefs game, where arumored new romantic interest, Travis Kelsey,
helped Kansas City beat the Chicago Bears. During the game, a fan took
(01:38):
a photo of Swift eating chicken stripswith ketchup names Seemingly Ranch. The Instagram
photo went viral among the singers hugefan base, and on Wednesday, Hines
got in on the Taylor Swift crazeand announced their limited edition Seemingly Ranch ketchup
and condiment. The company called ita new era for Hines in a reference
to Swift's top selling eras tour Boysseemingly Lefties. That's what I have to
(02:01):
say about that couple, and curiouswith the idea of a conservative economy when
it comes to consumers of basically turningtheir back on wokeness. Whether it's bud
light or otherwise will they go byseemingly ranch, which, by the way,
is that mixed with ketchup? Ranchmixed with ketchup. I did not
(02:24):
look at the ingredient list, butI assume it's ketch up with a ranch
flavor. Okay, Well, it'scurious that the flavor of this I don't
this is. Is it going tosit well with consumers? Or do you
just slap Taylor Swift on anything andit's all golden? I don't know.
(02:46):
We'll talk about that coming up.By the way, speaking of Trump,
you mentioned, you know, hewasn't at the debate last night, yet
many are saying he's the winner. He built this country, you love this
country, and you are the onesthat make our country run, you know,
so we're gonna throw Junior into themix here. That was of course,
U a w By the way,his at least take at it Trump
(03:07):
last night. Some people I actuallyget a message they were tuning into I
think it was Newsmax and said thatpeople in the audience, like Carrie Lake
saw where about twenty minutes into thechaotic debate, they were streaming Trump's speech
live. I thought that was interesting. Here they are at a live debate
(03:27):
in an incredible location, the ReaganLibrary, of all places. It beautiful,
and they were streaming Trump's speech withregards to the whole U A W
battle. So I think that's interesting. Well, not that I know him,
that anybody carried it, well,I don't, you know, it's
a good question. I don't knowthe answer of that either. Yeah.
Well, of course Fox was notgoing to carry it. You know,
(03:52):
it happened at eight o'clock actually anhour prior to the debate. But you
know, that's a business decision onFox News. They're not going to preempt
their own debate with carrying Trump liveat his speech when he didn't show up
to the debate. And I waskind of wondering when I went to researcher.
I just haven't had a chance tosee if anybody else carried that live.
(04:13):
Well we'll find out coming up more, of course on the debate.
Find it interesting here we are talkingabout you a W in the economy and
consumers. North Dakota's Doug Bergham's theonly one who calls out not only the
elephant in the room, which bythe way, was Trump, who wasn't
in the room, but EV's electronicvehicles and the whole battle here with the
idea that this strike could continue andgrow by the way, coming up tomorrow,
(04:38):
So we're going to continue the consumerconversation here coming up and throw conservatives
into the mix and Junior since we'retalking Trump here. Just ahead from major
events too, local headlines. Thisis Charleston's Morning News on ninety four three
WUSC. Now back to Kelly andBlaze speaking local headlines. The Mount Pleasant
(05:00):
Business Expo kicking off today one o'clockOmar Shrines Center. Check the stage when
you head their two Mount Pleasant. The ninety four three WUS table will be
there. I'll be there with Idon't know, I need to find something
in the prize closet. Blaze liketo have people put their business cards in.
I don't know if it's a mugor you have an extra hat hanging
(05:23):
around, but you can toss yourbusiness card in the hat. We're giving
away a thousand dollars in free advertising. So if you've got a small business
out there, please come by,say hi. Be on stage one to
three. The invent goes on tillfive o'clock. Free Happy Hour kicking off
five to six, So we hopeto see you there. It's going to
(05:43):
be eighty vendors there, so greatnetworking event that we're a part of annually,
so it'll be nice to oppress theflesh and say hello. So if
that's a Mount Pleasant business Expo again, Omar shrines at the base of the
Ravenel Bridge here east of the Kappaand Mount Pleasant. Not so pleasant last
night's debate. I don't know ifyou stuck it out through the end,
(06:06):
the amount of messages I started gettingfrom the beginning when it started to spiral
of people who were upset. Imean, I don't know the direct messaging
that the online direct you know, response from people was just, oh my
gosh, they're like a bunch ofyou know, fighting little children. And
(06:27):
I think with the frustration of somany people, I'm one of them,
I'm sure you are too blaze.I mean, it was just really not
palpable at times for a lot ofpeople, and I wish the moderators had
done a better job. I thinkthey were just trying to shove way too
much in when it came to,you know, having a presence Fox's Dana
(06:50):
Perino, you had the business networkon the Fox Side Stuart Varney and then
the Univision newsing Ilia Calderon. Now, I don't know if you know anything
about it. She's a Columbia basedso Columbia as in South America is where
she's originally from. She's fifty oneyears old. I thought, wow,
(07:13):
when I looked a little bit upabout her, I thought she was much
younger. I didn't know anything abouther. I frankly thought she was a
little hard to understand at times. It was so chaotic, and then she
had a lot of questions. I'dhave been happy with just Dana Perino,
honestly. Well, as I saidearlier, the moderators did not do a
good job of, you know,of corralling the candidates in one at a
(07:38):
time, and they spoke over eachother. You couldn't tell what they were
saying. They had their private linespracticed. They wanted to get their zingers
in. You could tell that, you know, they did a lot of
debate prep and didn't want to letthe opportunity pass where they had practiced those
lines, and they were all talkingover each other and it was a hot
(07:58):
mess. Yeah. I had anexample though, of the former vice president
where she asked him a direct question, he didn't answer it, went off
and answered three other different questions andthen she's literally the only one who said,
Okay, so that's your answer. Our non answer. Well, politicians
do that all the time, Iknow, But my point is that she
was the one, Frankly for whatwas Fox thinking, like, you didn't
(08:18):
need three moderators, you needed one, really great one. Unfortunately, they
were pandering to the Univision audience. They were, you know, over here
with Stuart Varney. Like it mademe it was interesting they picked the British
guy to try to corral the cats, if you will. It's like he
was so self spoken and he justit just came across this week. You
(08:39):
know. Again, they didn't needa trio of moderators. They could have
Dana could have held that all onher own, Frankly, and I think
just the three of them trying to, you know, follow their scripts,
and I actually thought, I mean, what did you think of the questions?
I thought their questions were great?Yeah, but you know back to
that point. You know how itworks. They're trying to promote the Fox
(09:03):
News Channel. Oh I do,and so they have the different moderators to
promote their different talents, including thelead up to the debate. You know
that was kind of chaotic because theywere trying to fit everybody in. That
wasn't a moderator, right, youknow, from brit Hume to Brett Bear
to so much. Yeah, itwas much And poor Larry Kudlow was like,
(09:26):
they're yelling in my earpiece. Yeah, he was so confused at times.
I felt for him, well because, yeah, because they were trying
to fit all that in, yeah, and get everybody promoted and the Fox
News channel promoted and there, andwe've been in these situations they're yelling in
your ear and the viewer can't seethat, but they're doing all these hand
signals off camera and yelling in hisear and you could tell you could see
(09:50):
his frustration, well, you know, in trying to move that thing along.
Well to your point about Fox promotingtheir brands, right, Fox News,
Fox Business and then you vision totallyunderstandable, Absolutely great idea. But
there's no need to give seventeen questionsto you know, Ilia from Univision,
(10:11):
who I can heart you know,I can tell did you see Chris Christie's
face at like they were having ahard time kind of understanding her exactly leaning
in and understanding her, and it'slike, okay, wait, give her
a couple of questions, but wedon't need to give her seventeen questions.
It's Stuart Varney. He's out ofhis element coming over from Fox Business.
I felt like, it seemed, and Dana was the one who this is
(10:33):
her lane. So majority of thequestions I think should have come from Dana.
You know, Purino, she did, you know, a great job
with what she was given. Butat the end of the day, the
candidates, who do you think honestlystood out? I mean, so we've
got our our former you an ambassadorin South Carolina is a former governor.
Nicki Haley is being quoted over TikTokand and basically calling Viveke Ramaswami stupid.
(11:00):
That's embarrassing. I think, Yeah, what did she say? I sound
dumber? When every time I talkto you, I feel a little dumber.
Right, So, well, youknow, I was going to say
earlier and we'll get to a we'reout of time for this break, but
you know, I've had I wassurprised at my reaction to some of these
candidates, And of course this morningthey're declaring Donald Trump, the winner of
(11:22):
the debate, that he wasn't evenright. Yeah, I declared that last
night. I mean it was itwas obvious he you know again. We'll
talk more about it here and hitthe talk back feature on the iHeart Apper.
Give us a call it to eightfor three seven two one eight two
five five. If you watch youwant to drop your reaction. This is
Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Blaze. Today is National Good Neighbor Day,
(11:46):
as mister Rogers would say, won'tyou be my neighbor? It's also International
Pokey Day. You know Pokey.Did you know where Pokey originates from?
It originates from Hawaii, so,you know, because of the raw fish
(12:07):
and the spices and everything. Ikind of thought it was a you know,
a bowl of sushi in that itprobably came from Japan, but it
actually originated in Hawaii. So havea Pokey bowl today and you'll be happy
to know. It's National Drink BeerDay. Now, Charleston's Morning News with
Kelly and Blaze. Where's Joe Biden? He's completely missing in action from leadership?
(12:31):
And you know who else is missingan action? Donald Trump is missing
in action. No one appears goingto call you Donald Trump anymore, bally
it Donald doc Oh. I thinkthose lame one liners proved to crash landing
for those candidates. We'll have moredebate talk coming up. Actually, Nutty
four three WSC's Aaron Riale I gota message from many people wondering where could
(12:52):
they watch the debate. They said, you know, I don't. I
don't actually have regular television anymore,so you know what's broadcast by a big
network. I have to actually searchfor. These are cord cutters, and
I found that interesting. These areconservative consumers that were reaching out to me,
who, frankly, are they beingtargeted and by of all people,
(13:13):
Don Junior, Yes, this isso interesting. So Kelly and Blaze,
I'd love to know if you've beenon Public Square. Have you guys checked
out the subline YEP, downloaded theapp YEP? So this is an interesting
one. This is by Don Junior. It is basically a Yelp directory,
Yelp like directory as tens of thousandsof conservative companies backed by Don Junior growing
(13:37):
in popularity, and it's for folkswho really want products that have anti woke
marketing, anti woke agendas. We'veseen so much push in this wol corporate
mentality that this is a pushback, and there's been this explosive explosion in business
ventures that position themselves right wing alternativeto mainstream products. The rebuttal that you
(13:58):
know you're cutting off half your marketplaceby doing this, true, but plenty
of niche products succeed and I thinkwhen people have had it up to their
ears with woke agenda, they're lookingfor an alternative, and Don Junior is
looking to capitalize on that. Ithink a lot of these companies thought that
the pushback over their woke agenda forlack of a better description, would kind
(14:18):
of blow over and things would returnto normal. But we're seeing a lot
of these boycotts and avoidance of thesecompanies that embrace transactivism and so forth.
We're seeing a lot of that stickaren't we we are? And this particular
platform, it has over sixty fivethousand companies one point four million users,
(14:41):
and it requires companies to commit tothese five core values things like freedom and
truths, family unit, danctity oflife. And then they have this team
that bests these businesses to make surethat they don't have any woke infractions like
promoting environmental justice or trans rate. But here's the rub. They have every
type of business from coffee too, candles to electricians, you name it,
(15:03):
it's there. And I hearken backto a time when Michael Jordan actually refused
to weigh in on a Senate racein North Carolina. He said that Republicans
buy sneakers too. This is sucha departure, this parallel economy. And
while yes, it's just a resultof corporations going so far awoke, but
you know, whether it's Ben andJerry's or hobby lobby, a lot of
(15:24):
people just want to buy toothpaste andnot have to have a side of ideology
with it. And that used tobe the case, but not anymore.
Yeah, it sure isn't. Andyou know, I gotta I won't mention
them because you know, I don'thave their permission. I'm not sure if
they want me to share their information. But I get an email from a
business the other day that said thatthey serve their clients black rifle coffee and
(15:48):
that they got a complaint on Yelpabout the black rifle coffee, now saying
that this person was offended because theywere offering black rifle Coffee, which is
a veteran owned company and supports veteranissues, and it happened to trigger this
particular person. So we see moreand more people making choices through their wallets.
(16:10):
This is Charleston's Morning News with Kellyand Blaze. On today's date,
September twenty eighth, nineteen twenty eightmembers of the Chicago White Sox were indicted
for allegedly throwing the nineteen nineteen WorldSeries against the Cincinnati Reds. All were
(16:30):
acquitted at trial, but all eightwere banned from the game for life.
In nineteen twenty eight, Scottish medicalresearcher Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, the first
effective antibiotic, and in nineteen twentyfour, three US Army planes landed in
Seattle, having completed the first roundthe world trip by air. It took
(16:53):
one hundred and seventy five days tocomplete. This is Charleston's Morning News with
Jelly and Blaze. Now the topthree things you should know. A twenty
nine year old Texas man is facinglife in prison on charges stemming from the
dusts of more than four dozen migrantsan attractor trailer. Last year, federal
(17:14):
officials announced yesterday that Christian Martinez hadentered a guilty plea. They say he
played a key role in smuggling atleast sixty six illegal immigrants from the Texas
border city of Laredo in an eighteenwheeler. The trailer was later found abandoned
in San Antonio with forty eight migrantsdead inside. Five more died at the
hospital. Authorities on both sides ofthe borders say they are increasing enforcement against
(17:40):
human smuggling during the current surge USborder patrols as American and Mexican authorities have
intensified efforts to fight human trafficking nearSan Diego and Tijuana. Agents say there
will now be mirrored patrols on bothsides of the border, and the two
countries are adding resources and sharing information. They say there will be new operations
to target human smugglers, especially groupsleading people across the border. Share is
(18:07):
being accused of kidnapping her own son, who turned at forty seven this last
summer. Allegations against the legendary popsinger being made by Marie Angela King,
who is the estranged wife of SHA'sson, Elijah Blue Allman. King claims
four men removed Alman from the NewYork City hotel room on their wedding anniversary
(18:27):
last November. While they were workingon their marriage. King also claims one
of the men told her that theywere hired by Share to kidnap Elijah Blue.
Alman, that is some extreme,Mama Bearing, if it's the truth,
Yeah, it is. That isscary. When do you have that
much money? I guess Mama bearinggoes to a whole new level. Well,
(18:52):
I mean, and I think weshould probably clarify that Share was upset
not you know, at their marriage, but at his is drug addiction.
Oh yeah. See. So listeningto that, I'm sitting here wondering does
she never like the lady in thefirst place? You know what I mean,
the daughter in law? I mean, I don't follow it enough to
really know, really because this isso important, I know, but it's
(19:17):
on top of everybody's minds. Inquiringminds want to know. But it appears
from what I've read that you know, she's not a big fan of the
daughter in law. But that's nowwhat propelled her to kidnap Elijah Blue.
It's the fact that he's a seriousdrug addict and needs help. Lord rhinds
me a hunter Biden. Wonder howmuch of this conversation is going to come
(19:38):
up on Capitol Hill today. Weknow they're going to be uncovering all kinds
of truth bombs that started yesterday. And by the way, in the midst
of this debate over our government shutdown, where are we on this? We're
going to talk about that here comingup our national correspondent Rory O'Neil, digging
into what they have done haven't done. I think there's a lot of confus
(20:00):
with regards to how our government operates. Who gets paid what when. I
find it interesting that the congressional stafferswill not get paid, but their congress
people will. They always get paid. Isn't that unbelievable? And you know
a lot of times not even bythe US government, Yo, good lord
(20:21):
turns out their Chinese paycheck over allarrives on a regular basis, right on
time, well in except in Hunter'scase where he has to call and threaten
and say, I'm sitting here withmy dad, where's the money. I
mean, so much of this isgetting exposed. How many people are paying
attention? I mean, here weare talking about paychecks. I don't know
(20:42):
if you caught in the house yesterdaythe Lloyd Austin, they voted to reduce
his paid to a dollar. Didyou catch that? Yeah, Marjorie Taylor
Green threw that out there. Thereare other fire brands known firebrands, and
the conservative into things in the Republicanside of the House who said, you
know, we're done with this.I'm wondering, why did it take him
(21:04):
so long? Why it take himso long? I mean after the Afghan
pull out and what an absolute abjectfailure that was so heartbreaking. Well,
Lloyd Austin, Mark Millie, thewhole bunch of them, you know,
should we should feel disgraced? Idon't think that they do. They are
disgraced, but I don't think theyfeel that way. Well, Anthony Fauci,
(21:26):
Well, how come we didn't reducehis pay to a buck? Oh,
he's out there on making new videospushing vaccines for kids and masks with
foreign President Obama. It's not goingto land the same this time around.
Absolutely not. Well, he doesn'thave the power that he had, you
know, last time around. Thanksfor listening to the Charleston Morning News podcast.
