takes the first close up images ofthe Moon, four thousand, three hundred

excessively dusty or otherwise treacherous to apotential spacecraft landing, thus lending encouragement to
the NASA plan to send astronauts tothe Moon this week. In nineteen sixty
five, President Lyndon Baines Johnson signsthe Voting Rights Act, guaranteeing African Americans
to the right to vote. Thebill made it illegal to impose restrictions on
federal, state, and local electionsthat were designed to deny the vote to

blacks. Although the Voting Rights Actpassed, state and local enforcement of the
law was weak, and it wasoften outright ignored. In Mississippi alone,
voter turnout among blacks increased from sixpercent in nineteen sixty four to fifty nine
percent in nineteen sixty nine. ThisWeek in nineteen eight three, Risky Business,
