I ambre grew James Simpson as Ijust mentioned, joined by the mister Biologicckham
self, mister Chad Hillbeam. Wherewell, rules are rules, and we
can't crack beers until the mics arehot, and well we're about two minutes
in. It's time to crack abeer in this segment being brought to you
by the Backyard Grill, which isgetting a lot of national publicity. Yeah

(02:45):
they are. They're showing up onthe old social with their videos out there
for America's greatest restaurants. You gottacheck them out, follow them at the
Backyard Grill. And this, uh, the Backyard Grill there in Cyprus,
Jersey Village, Houston, wherever youwant to call it, it's out there.
It's it's like right off a highwayto ninety corner weston Jones and very

(03:07):
nice videos done showing in the highlightsof this restaurant, this establishment that's been
around promoting great beer, great foodfor more than two decades. I have
a listener, or we had alistener, and that send us the link.
And I think I want to saythey were in Keyakuck. I don't
remember Grand Rapids. I'm not surewhere, but they send us a link
of that video, like, Hey, isn't this a restaurant you guys always

(03:29):
talk about. Yeah, it's They'rethe proud sponsors of this segment right here,
brought to the table where James bringsa beer. I bring a beer.
We're gonna crack it open. Wedon't think the byg the Backyard Grille
on the northwest side of Houston forbringing this segment, James, you want
to go first, or you wantto give me the you want to give
me the keys of this bus.You know what, Let's go ahead and

(03:49):
give you the keys of the bus. And I'm gonna go ahead and read
up a little bit about the beerthat I brought to table because this is
a first timer. We got afirst timer to the brought to the table
for the beer I brought. Allright, well, this beer needs no
introduction whatsoever, ladies and gentlemen broughtto the table. I brought the world's
best selling beer, bud Light. No, I'm just kidding. UM,
I have in my hands here BrasisValley Brewing Company, Hazy does it.

(04:11):
I made a trip to Texas justrecently and our buddy Josh Bass there's our
first name drop of the show. And I went out and saw him and
he said, yeah, you gottatake some of this back and share with
your your beer drinking friends back inMichigan. So wait, are you actually
gonna share it with anybody beer drinkingfriends in Michigan? I got Bill from

(04:32):
Harbor Light here, what yeah,I know? Well he hey, listen,
I went to Texas and all ofa sudden, he's like, hey,
where was my invite? And Iwas like, well sorry. He's
like, well, when you getback here, my liver's ready. So
we're checked out on this piece ofequipment. This is a juicy, pillowy,

(04:53):
fluffy, delicious soft palate IPA withlots of citrus notes and beautiful poor
there. It's got the all theall the hazy and juicy. Oh yeah,
yep, this is BVB out thereBrenham, Texas, Highway two ninety.
Further, if you're like, wait, isn't the back air girl of
Highway two ninety? Yes, andthen wait a minute. If Valley they

(05:15):
knew that, I'm impressed. Yeah, but Prassle's Valley Brewer. They're off
Highway two ninety two. They're onlyabout forty five more minutes though, actually
know about an hour from there. But anyway, here we go on.
Huh six and a half percent.Whoa, there's a lot of bitterness in
that, a lot of bitterness.Wow. Um I like it because when

(05:35):
Hazy IPA's tastes like ipa, youknow you're not just getting a mouthful of
grapefruit juice. Um, I likeit. So that's when we kick things
off with a six and a halfpercent Hazy does it from Brad's Valley Brewing
Company. Thank every buddy Josh Bassfor hooking us up with this beer.
A man, bill aproved, Billapproves, it's bill approved, Bill approved,

(05:58):
all right. Um. So beforethere was hazy IPAs, there was
a little known IPA style that youknow, it had its life, but
then it just the popularity just wentaway. But I still love that style
of IPA. And when I wasgifted this from a friend of mine,
I was very excited. Do youknow, want to do you want to
take a guess what kind of ipa? Mister Pilbeam, is this the uh,

(06:19):
let's see here? Is it thewhite ipa that was so popular for
five minutes not the white IPA,but oh no black I PA. Yes,
the Black I PA from five onetwo Brewing out of Austin, Texas.
My good friend mister Ryan Robertson,Oh, drop name dropper, Ryan

(06:41):
Robertson cracked this open. A BlackIndia Palel coming to you at seven point
five percent. I'll call it byvolume. Was stepping over me? Now?
Yeah, okay, all right,Black IPA American Black India Palel five
one two Brewing Company. I'm drinkingout of my water glass. My what's
on tap? Radio cast branding glass? Nice about the glass I have,

(07:03):
pillowy head. Oh I got hintsof coffee, chicory mhm. Take a
sip of this, yeah, lookat you go? Yeah huh um,
tetanic bitterness. Oh wow, that'sreally good, robust. This is for
somebody who loves hops. It's ahybrid style of dark beer. I'm a
fan, also known as a Cascadiandark ale. And so that's brought to

(07:30):
the table, brought to you bythe Backyard Grill. And I brought the
hazy does it New England style hazyIPA whatever you want to call it,
from Bradsle's Valley Brewing Company. Brenham, Texas, drinking it out of the
old fashioned Saint Arnold bryn Company tourdays. Uh sample glass? Remember we
used to give you on the toursthere for you bring the six pack carriers
back and they give you one ofthese little glasses. Oh yeah, that's

(07:54):
what we're drinking out of right here. And um we got that going.
And James, what did you have? I had the Black India pale Ale
from five one two Brewing coming outof Austin, Texas. And we'll talk
a little bit about this beer andthat Chad's beer coming up next segment before
we do the official What's on TapRadio fund Factor the week. But on
tap this week, we have gotto get into this butt life controversy.
It is not going away. We'regonna get down to it. This is

(08:16):
what's on Tap Radio. Hang withto us. We'll be right back.
This is what's on Tap radio.Hey, you know, it doesn't matter
what kind of beer you drink.Do you like it ice cold, do
you like it served cellar temperature?Do you like it served in a fancy
glass or just drinking it from along neck model. It doesn't matter because
everybody who drinks beer loves great foodand you're gonna find both at the Backyard

(08:41):
Grill, located on the northwest sideof Houston, Texas, at the corner
of Weston Jones Road and proud sponsorsWhat's on Tap Radio HiT's Chad Pilbing,
the beerlogic guy here telling you toget out there and support those who support
us. And when you go inthere, hey, like I said,
it doesn't matter what kind of beeryou like. They've got it ice cold
beer right here. Or check outtheir cellared beer menu. Oh yeah,

(09:03):
ask for the special stuff. Theygot a secret stash forty eight taps everything
you want in a hundred different fooditems at the Backyard Grill. Check out
their beerbed, sign up for theirnewsletter and find out more at the Backyard
Grill dot com. That's the BackyardGrill dot com. And I mentioned how

(09:33):
excited I am to get a chanceto hang out with you guys. Thanks
for tuning us in, tuning intous. Excuse me, yeah, tuning
us in, tuning into us,checking us out, whatever, whatever,
turn up the volume, calling yourfriends and fighting them over to listen.
Thanks a lot, appreciate it.But um, I have some concerns.
I have some concerns. Oh great, I do. Hearing of grievances brought

(09:56):
to you by James Simpson. Igot a feeling at Chad has been kidnapped
and replaced by a robot. I'lltell you why. I think that's because
in the first segment, which isbrought to you by the Backyard Grill I
Pilby, can you remind us whatyou brought to the table? Yeah,

(10:16):
Bresi's Valley Brewing Company. Hazy doesit? Okay? See that that's fine.
This time here's the concern. Canyou remind us what vessel you're drinking
out of? Uh? Yeah, the Saint Arnold Brewing Company Tour Days.
This back in the tour days.Yeah, Chad has definitely been kidnapped and
replaced by a robot because he isnot drinking out of Samuel adams Boston Logger

(10:37):
Glass. I know. I'm ontoyour roots. See AI is taken over
and Chad is probably in the backof a van somewhere with his hands tigling,
and they're like they'll never know, but the glass gave it away.
Oh now, let's see. Ifeel like I'm all Scooby dooish. All

(10:58):
right, let's whoose behind this putthe face old man, barbs, what
it got away? All I wantto do was be on What's on Tap
Radio? And no one would evercall me back or answer my emails.
Would have got away with it ifit wasn't for those nasty hosts of What's
on Tap Radio. Oh Chad,Yeah, I don't know. I don't
know what happened if your glass broke. I'm just kind of concerned. I've

(11:22):
got I Honestly, I think Ihave six or eight of those glasses around
the house. And whenever I foundout, I was gonna have a stunt
beer liver, and I was like, you know what, we may crack
open a few more beers because wetook a couple of weeks off. So
I don't know if you know this, but the statue of limitations never runs
out on catching up on beers. And no, trust me, I took

(11:43):
a law classes. Just stay withme here, and you know this official,
this is not official fun fact, but if you skip a week of
doing What's on Tap Radio, it'sit's not only acceptable but expected that the
beers that you would have drank thatweek you drink on the next episode.
And since there's two of us andwe're drinking responsibly. We may have to

(12:03):
open more cans of beer. Okay, well that means any more glasses,
so I don't I want to usethe small glasses. So I guess it's
confirmed that Chat has not been kidnappedand he has not been replaced by AI
Robot. But I still had concernswhen he didn't have the same loans Boston
latter glass. But uh, letme give a little shout out to Ryan
Robertson's No, he works over atfive one two. Now he's my neighbor,

(12:26):
and he works at five one two, but still lives here in the
west side of town and part ofHouston, so he does a commute.
But he brought me back some beerfresh off the canning line over at five
one two. And this is theirspring seasonal, the Black India Pale Ale,
and it is I mean, I'mjust one of those like loyal fans
to Black i Pas even though theythey just not as popular as the Hazy

(12:48):
IPAs and so they are still loveanymore. But I am a big fan.
I mean it's just look at thatblack with color notes a coffee in
there. Oh, just everything Iwanted at Black Indiae also white. Chad
mentioned the Cascadian cascading Nail, cascadingdark hail. Yeah. Basically what it
is a German style schwartz beer, except it's an ale because it's not a

(13:09):
lager and an ipa. So reallyit's an ipa blended with a schwartz beer,
so it's got all those roasted coffeenotes. Or even go like an
English porter and not a brown porter. But you know a dark, roasty
porter and an American ipa. Justblend those two styles together and you've got
roasty, dry coffee, delicious hotbitterness notes. And uh, that's over

(13:33):
here. I have not grapefruit juice. I have a very hoppy, hazy,
delicious hazy ipa from Brazsls Valley BrewingCompany, Brenham, Texas. What's
the name of hazy does it?Hazy? Does it? That's right?
Good. I like the six packsholders that Brass Valley uses. They're very
sleek. They're different than the otherum six pack holders that other breweries are

(13:56):
using. I don't know if youyeah, I'll have to post a picture
on social but they're very well. They're very thin. They have like a
little round thing that goes around thelip of it, and then it has
like a little almost like a littlehook. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah. Those are definitely single use, yeah, because when you pop
one out of there, you're notputting one back in. Yeah. They're
very cool looking though, Yeah, but they're more environmentally friendly. Will they

(14:18):
save the sea turtles? They willsave the sea turtles, that's right,
and Metallica will make a beer withBudweiser and they'll sing a song about it
in Canada. Nice. Oh,you gotta listen to a lot of What's
on Tap Radio to get that one, but here, well, we'll fill
you in later, don't worry.Speaking of filling you in, how about
we learn now the official What's onTap Radio fun Factor the Week, brought

(14:41):
to you by Who's ever checked Clear? This week? I am always always
down to learn, all right.I'm glad you're down to learn, so
all right, James. I wasblown away by this because I was doing
some research on another subject and Iend up doing a little research into Sylvester
Stallone and I thought maybe it'd bea fun to do a fun fact on

(15:05):
Sylvester Stallone to fund Rocky Rocky RockyBellbow. But he was in a.
He was in one or two othermovies as well. Other movies. Yeah,
I know, I know, Iknow, I know. But in
the movie Rocky, I didn't knowthis, but he did drank a beer
in the movie Rocky, it wasa can of Schmidt. In the movie
Cobra, he drank a course, which, by the way, in the

(15:26):
movie Cobra he was with, ifI remember correctly, I'm trying to remember
who was the hot who was themodel, the supermodel that he was with.
I can't remember who it was.But he also did uhum. I
thought maybe we could get a coolstory about how maybe Sylvester Sloane got hammered
and like, Nope, couldn't findthat. Couldn't find that. Nope.

(15:48):
But he did have to get SharonStone drunk in the Specialist in order to
do the smoking hot love making inthe shower scene. Yeah, Nelson,
No, oh was it? Yes? It was Bridget Nelson in Cobra.
Yes, and he drank a coursein Cobra. But yeah, and he
had to get Sharon Stone drunk inthe Specialist in order to film that scene
because she didn't want to do it. A lot of people have said that

(16:08):
if Rocky was a beer, he'dbe a rolling Rock because rolling Rock out
of Pennsylvania. Of course he foughtout of Philadelphia, and of course his
name's Rocky, so you know, you gotta kind of go with the whole
thing. But then I discovered thisthat in season three, episode twenty of
The Muppets, are you ready forThis? Solvester Stallone shows up like an

(16:32):
old fashioned bar keep with the withthe garters on his sleeves and everything,
and he's got a beer mug andhe's singing a bird in a gilded cage
on The Muppet Show with the bunchof the Muppets of the Muppet Band,
and they've got beer glasses they're slingingthem around on The Muppet Show. And
I thought to myself, there's noway that the Muppets allowed beer on the

(16:59):
show for kids. Well, James, your official What's on Tap Radio fun
fact of the week is you knowthey did not allow beer on the Muppet
Show. I'm sorry to say theyallowed beer, whiskey, wine spirits,
tequila shots over one hundred and thirtytimes on the Muppet Show. Now,

(17:22):
if you're thinking this is a littleshocking for a child's program, I'll let
you know this. The second pilotepisode of the Muppet Show was titled The
Muppet Show Sex and Violence. Atleast in nineteen seventy five. No,
I am not making this up.The Muppet Show the pilot episode number two

(17:45):
was called The Muppet Show Sex andViolence. And of course The Muppet Show
has taken some criticism over the yearsfor all of its gratuitous use of alcohol,
including Jim Henson going on The TonightShow in nineteen sixty five performing a
drunken episode of Flip Wilson Show.In a drunken muppet named Marcus Welby joined

(18:06):
Flip Wilson and Dom Deloise at abar. Let's see Miss Piggy. She
decided to toast with a glass ofwine, and she toasted a doctor at
a veterinarian's hospital in a sketch inepisode two oh four, and following the
exchange, Piggy says, doctor Bob, are you ready for your next bear?
And the doc says, why NursePeggy, I couldn't have a beer

(18:27):
now I'm about to operate, andthen Fozzy sings, you can tell a
man who boozes by the company hechooses, and the references go on and
on and on. So your officialWhat's on Tappa Radio Fun fact of the
week is Rocky Balboa aka Sylvester Sloanehas made several appearances drinking beer in his

(18:48):
movies, including on The Muppet Show, where they had over one hundred and
thirty different references to drinking alcohol overthe years. And that's your official What's
on tap Radio fun fact of theweek versus alf And then it's them Uppets.
Wow, where will we go next? All right? So, and
coming up next segments, we're gonnaget into it. We're gonna get a

(19:11):
we're gonna go light on the storyhere. This is what's on tap Radio.
Hang with us. We'll give ourtake on the controversy behind by light.
We'll be right back. The onlything we threw back on Thursday is
a pint of beer or two orthree. This is what's on tap Radio.
Back to James and Chadh, Byeoh bye. I'd like to thank

(19:48):
you a wonderful listeners that took thetime to go to What's on Tap Radio
at gmail dot com or go toour social media at What's on Taprio,
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram anddrops some stories in our dms, including
the story that we're about to getinto. Oh boy, where to start?

(20:12):
Let me start by taking another sipof this blacking NEI a palelt from
five one two. I was gonnasay, where do you start with a
story that you know where? Iknow where we'll start. Okay. This
is a story that came out severalweeks ago and James and I were in
a production meeting and I said,oh, did you hear this story?

(20:33):
Look at this? And it wasjust this the announcement that there was a
new face on the can of budlight and there was a new social media
partnership or something. And I said, Ah, this is just another one.
This will blow over. This isnot a big deal. I mean,
this is It is one of thosethings where people are gonna be upset
for a minute and then you know, the twenty four hour news cycle right

(20:53):
right like this, and somebody willwill clutch their pearls and hold on and
start screaming for an other five moreminutes. But then even they will go
back to their normal selves. Ohno, this is a story that has
transcended trans. Oh it's a transLet's see what you did there with the

(21:14):
old trans all right? Anyway,Um, now it has it is crossed
over. Okay, never went allright, all right, it's coming out
of no wait, all right, enough of the puns. Um it is
it is really touched on, allright. I can't even say that now.
Okay, Look every part of thenews cycle. I don't care what
it is, whether it's entertainment, whether it is social media, social issues,

(21:41):
social studies. Government's even gotten involvedwith it. Uh, the economy
is affected by it. But James, there's a new face on a can
of bud Light and well, yeah, bud lights promotion. If you've been
eleven on a rock and hadn't heardthis story, they yep, bud Light

(22:02):
has did a promotion with a transactivistnamed Dylan mulvaney and they even made a
custom can with her face on it. So apparently he is now a chief
for three hundred and sixty five days. And to celebrate the three hundred and
sixty five days, bud Light hasmade a custom can with Mulvaney's face on
it. And this has started afirestorm. The videos and the stories that

(22:30):
are coming out of this is takingover. And Chad, we were wrong.
This was not a twenty four hournews cycle because I think the first
video I ever saw was the resultof this, the flood of videos that
were coming out on social media ofpeople just trashing cases of bud Light Kid
Rock. Kid Rock, he tookthese videos and just flew it even further

(22:56):
by blowing away several cases a lightswith a rifle and I'm gonna roll this
clip and uh yeah, basically hesays, uh quote, Grandpa's feeling a
little frisky today. Grandpa's feeling alittle frisky today. Let me say something
tall you and be as clear andconcise as possible. Bud Light Anheiser Bush

(23:25):
have a terrific day. So thisvideo popped up. This was kind of
one of the first videos I saw. The backlash of these videos. They're
very upset, They're very upset byby lfe's decision of doing this promotional can,
putting the transactivists on the can anduh yeah, um it's not going
away, it's not. The reactionsare pretty interesting because I think when you

(23:52):
see somebody like like Kid Rock doingwhat he does, like you said,
people love it, right Oh thereare like I told had this in our
production, meaning that people just lovewatching videos of stuff being blown up.
Right now, when you add whenyou add bud lights to to the next
and to that demo that bled budlight or whatever it is. And now

(24:15):
they're they're upset. They're like,hell, yeah, it is. It
is igniting it. I think thisstory is bringing out and this is this
is an editorial here, so thisis my opinion. It's bringing out the
worst in both sides of the argument. Because there was a time whenever if
you didn't like something, you justdidn't support it. And now we have

(24:38):
social media and we have we haveour we have these influencers who's like,
all right, you want to influencethe beer industry by putting this uh transdude
on the can. Okay, youknow what, I'm going to influence the
my my audience here by getting out, you know, a machine gun and
start blowing up cans of beer. And and then of course, one guy

(25:00):
I think it's safe we can talkabout this. There's one guy who is,
uh, can we talk about theguy who was arrested or we gotta
save on that story. We'll getinto it. The guy, yeah,
we'll get into that. But Imean he was all you know, he
was influenced by kid rock. He'slike, yeah, I'm gonna go smash
from Kids too. And it's likeeverybody's just like what is going on.

(25:22):
A lot of people are triggered bythis, and a lot of people,
you know, obviously on the onthe conservative side, are coming out and
boycotting. But kid Rock is notthe only one we have, Travis Tritt,
John Rich say they're boycotting. Travissaid, and I quote, I'll
be deleting all Anaheiser Busch products fromour tour hospitality writer. I know many

(25:42):
other artists who are doing the same, he said. Others may not be
willing to admit publicly, but hehas uh confirmed that you know they've said
something, you know, hey, boycotting it. They just try saying it
publicly. But John Rich, likeI just said, mentioned that he's asking
his followers which beer they should replaceby Light with at his Nashville bar.
He pays a bar Nashville called theRedneck Revera and as a lot of us,

(26:07):
which is interesting, a lot ofhis followers had suggestions, but many
of them actually are owned by anhyderBush. Because listeners came in with Corona
Pacifico, Silhartois Becks Lebat Blue, among other craft brews. Like Golden Road,
Goose Island and Elysian. It's it'syeah, there are people are posting
now. They're like, hey, don't just take out don't take your bud
light out of the fridge, getrid of all Anheuser Busch products. That's

(26:32):
right. In fact, if yourfridge ever had a bud light in it
lighted on fire, I mean, just get rid of it. It's cursed.
I know I made that part up, but they are they're listing all
the brands or like, these arethe brands you want it you want to
boycott, and I listen. I'ma big fan of If you don't support
something, just don't support it,stop spending your money on it. That's
right. And if you want toencourage others to do that, that's fine.

(26:53):
But man, some people are goingnuts. Did you see the video
of Dan Crnshaw? What are you? Posted on Twitter? So Dan Crenshaw
is a representative for Texas Second Districtand he went on TikTok and he was
like, uh yeah, let mego pull out all the bud lights I
have in my fridge. And sohe walks over to his fridge. He
has a little outdoor kitchen area andhe has a little mini fridge, and

(27:15):
so he opens a mini fridge andhe starts scrolling through all the beers and
he was like, yeah, justwhat I thought. No bud light is
in my fridge. But yet he'syou know, pushing the beers around.
He's got like um Crawford back inthere. He's got so, he's got
he's got the yeah. So thecar Yeah, for those who don't know,
Carback Brewing Company makes those beers, and Carback is also owned by annheuser

(27:37):
Busch. But then on the flipside of this, there there were politicians.
I said that this thing has goneinto the political game because you have
politicians who are so pro trans andare pushing that agenda. There's there's a
photo of several politicians with a budlight in their hand and they're just standing

(27:59):
there for a photo op and there'sno beer gone in the bottle and it
looks totally natural. Oh yeah, sarcasm implied. It's like, all right,
hey, you hold a beer.Make sure you get the labels.
Make sure labels out so we cansee everything. Okay, all right,
now remember smile because we're all supportingthis, alright, alright, ready,
okay, yep, great that.Oh, step back, the lighting is
better there, Okay, perfect.I mean it's such a staged photo because

(28:22):
everybody wants to just leverage this andnobody wants Oh my gosh, it's it's
it's funny. But now you knowwhat this whin cracks me up too.
The the financial analysts they're sitting thereand like, Okay, what's the what's
the cost of alienating your public andyour your frat boy image? And I
think we're gonna have to talk moreabout that later. We're gonna get into

(28:45):
why they're going this this route. But listen to the next segments. This
is insane. The value fell rightaway boom, like five million dollars and
when it finally leveled out, itwas like a three million dollars valuation loss.
Now somebody's gonna be held accountable forthat, and we will talk about

(29:06):
that because I mean, James Idid say we could probably do the entire
show on this story. Yeah, but we're not going to not going to
because there's other stories to get too. But we'll spend a lot of time
on this. But one more videothat popped up on TikTok before we take
a break. But again, we'retalking about this bud light controversy. Somebody
gave Brantley Gilbert. I'm not sureif you know who he is. He's

(29:26):
like a rock country artist. He'son stage and somewhere in Alabama, and
some way threw a bud light athim, you know some you know,
people toss beers to the artist. You're like, oh, yeah, So
he grabbed the beer and he lookedat it having to be a bud light
and he quotes f that and ithurled it on the floor and then explode,
and of course everyone you know, cheered, and then somebody threw another
beer out him, happy to bea Miller light. And then he was

(29:48):
like, now we're talking, butI don't think Brantley Gilbert drinks. And
so he ended up giving it tohis drummer who and then his drummer took
it and then proceeded to shotgun it, which you know, of course got
the crowd, you know, cheering. But yeah, a lot of artists
are coming out saying that they're boycottingbut light no by light at their shows,
and uh, we'll see what happenswith this, but we're still going
to talk about this and coming upnext segment, we're gonna discuss why they're

(30:14):
deciding to go this, uh thisdirection. So this is what's on tap
radio. We'll be right back here. It what's on tap radio. We
know two types of people. Thoseyou drink with and those that make you
drink. Oh, your parents arecoming for the weekend. Either way,
we're drinking in the club. Whyyou drink something and it tastes just like

(30:48):
Jerico. I know it's not theofficial what's on tap Radio fun Factor week
but here's a fun fact. Mydaughter's named after the song. And yet
that problem in that I'm chad.It is not let it's a it's a

(31:11):
lot of carbonation. That's Oh,it's not that mud. Welcome back,
by the way, if you're justtuning in. But we were talking about
this story. It's really not muchto get to. But uh, I
can't, I can't uh now,this bud Light story that's just costs a
lot of people that are just nothappy about the decision they made by putting
a transactivist on a can. Theother side is really they're they're equal.

(31:36):
I'd say they're equally as vocal.Well sorry, yeah, they're equally as
vocal. But they're not being heard. It's it really is like, no,
we support this. We Meanwhile, everybody else's that's great, but we
don't know that whenever they put thisnews out that they went bud Light went

(31:56):
radio is silent on social media.Yeah, but there were some competitors that
did not. In fact, theydidn't who In fact, I don't know,
James, Do you want me tomention the uh our buddy over there
in Pottsville? Yes, yes,Yingling, for sure, Yingling. And
the timing is everything. Timing iseverything. They did Yngling the America's oldest

(32:21):
brewery. They're they're they're sitting backthere and their uh chairs, like,
what are we gonna do to tryand uh get people's attention? And all
of a sudden they look out thenews cycle and they say, wait a
minute, bud Light's doing something crap. We'll never crack this. And then
all of a sudden they went,no, I got an idea. They

(32:42):
threw a little brick at bud Lightas this thing was sinking like a brick
um. Yeah, and perfect passiveaggression fashion. Yeah. Yngling took to
the old Twitter account and pounced backon there, and shortly after ab released
their official state. In the wakeof the Dyla mulvaney fallout, yang Ling

(33:04):
fired off its first tweeted in theweek with just a simple message, Jingling
the oldest brewery in America, independentlyowned and family operated since eighteen twenty nine,
because we make good beer. Now, the conspiracy theories out there,
you know, in the beer theythey you know this here, They're like,
this has got to be the firstof many shots fired. It has
to be a beer war going on, because the folks at Yangling and Miller

(33:29):
are throwing all kinds of parades rightnow. You know. They are just
sitting there and they're like, yeah, we're we're family owned and family independently
owned and family operated because we makegood beer. And I just like,
you see the tweet that had hadlike American flags in the background. Yeah
yeah, uh huh. So uhlet's get into the reasoning, um,

(33:52):
why they're they're going out this angle. Now. What's her name, Alissa
Heiner Seed. She's a vice presidentof bud Light, and I think she's
been on the job for about sixmonths. And she goes on this podcast
and starts talking about the new marketingthat bud Light's rolling out, so let's
roll this clip. That's a clip, I think the clip clip one.

(34:15):
See, Oh I'm a businesswoman.I had a really clear job to do
when I took over a bud Light, and it was this brand is in
decline. It's been in decline fora really long time, and if we
do not attract young drinkers to comeand drink this brand, there will be
no future for bud Light. SoI had this super clear banding. It's
like, we need to evolve andelevate this incredibly iconic brand. And my

(34:39):
what I brought to that was abelief in Okay, what does what does
evolve and elevate mean? It meansinclusivity, It means shifting the tone.
It means having a campaign that's trulyinclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different
and appeals to women and to men. And representation is it sort of the

(35:00):
heart of evolution. You've got tosee people who reflect you in the work.
And we had this hangover. Imean, bud Light had been kind
of a brand of fratty, kindof out of touch humor, and it
was really important that we had anotherapproach. And that's Alyssa heinerche the vice

(35:22):
president of bud Light, who hadthe responsibility for marketing the number one selling
beer in the world, and shesaid, we had to do something about
this brand in decline. And ofcourse people who were opposed to this partnership
with Dylan mulvaney were quick to sayand she was trying to help the brand

(35:49):
in decline by I don't know, sinking it at a much faster rate.
It was like, okay, you'redrowning. Hold on to this anchor.
It was unbelievable that, I mean, the pot shots she took. And
then also I noticed them on thatclip. This was something we didn't discuss
and it's not in our notes here, but she said, we need a
lighter, brighter you know, didn'tdidn't Boston Beer Company just come out with

(36:15):
a new brighter uh Sam Adams BostonLogger. Remember it was like a brighter
and night. That's how you rememberthey did the Boston It's like you take
the parking spot. No, youtake the parking spot. You know,
it was all nice and it wasall brighter, it was all happier.
This is there. This is budLight's move. And so she in her
marketing background, decided to say,you know what sales data is on the

(36:38):
decline, Well, let's go aheadand do this partnership. And in the
process of doing so well, themarket research numbers came out and for the
week ending April eighth, packages ofbud Light showed accelerating sales and share declines.
And Molson people are boycotting at peopleare upset, yep, and and

(37:01):
just to prove that they're not juststopping up, I'm not drinking beer anymore
now. Actually, Molson Coors withcors Light and Miller Light, yeah,
they had notable increases in sales andrevenue. In fact, I've had several
conversations with bars, restaurants, andgrocery stores and bud Light is not moving

(37:23):
the way at like like there aresome people there. I've heard several weddings
where they had bud Light out therein a cooler next to IPAs and people
who don't even drink IPAs or like, yeah, I'm not drinking the bud
Light. But did you hear whatshe said? Though? She said that
they're going after the young, youknow, the gen Z's. But I
don't know if she's noticed this. But gen zs aren't buying it right,

(37:44):
gen zs are drinking hard, sweeteralcohols wine in a beer. We talked
about this many times on the show. They are not drinking by Light.
And so she's going after, youknow, this demo when she really needs
to be going after the demo thatdrinks their beer, getting them re energized
on drinking their beer. But youdon't go alienating the very demo that drinks

(38:07):
your beer by trying to line upwith people that don't drink your product.
It doesn't line up with people thatdo drink your product. That just never
works out. It does doesn't worker. Sorry, sorry to turn this into
a marketing lesson here for everybody. And of course everybody's gonna say, well,
hindsight's twenty twenty. But here's thereality. All Light beer was in

(38:27):
decline, all of it. Soto say, well, bud Light's not
going to be a brand if itkeeps declining like this, well, your
competition was also in decline. Okay, people were drinking less of this mass
produced beer. They were, Butanyway, for the weekending April eighth,
bud Light posted declines of off premise. That's off premise, that's people who
go into grocery stores and buy it. Bud Light down seven percent in volume

(38:52):
and ten point seven percent almost elevenpercent in dollars. That is a huge
decline. I mean that is justwow. That is um but it is
painful. I'm saying that, like, don't try to give a message to
your demo. No, your yourmessage to the demo is to get them
to buy your beer, not alienatethem. And that's when when politics gets

(39:16):
involved or controversial topics get involved.Beer needs to do what beer does,
stick to making a good product andpeople will buy it. Yes, is
it that that fraternity dilly dilly, but that campaign weren't so rather than trying
to okay, well maybe let's gowith you more exclusivity, No, you
need to go after your target demo. And I like this quote. I

(39:37):
forget his name, but he saidthat this angle they're going at, it's
like selling gangster rap to Christians orpour into Mormons. Yeah, you know,
like just stick to selling to yourdemo. Yeah. Ab CEO Brennan
Whitworth wrote on behalf of the company, we never intended to be part of
a discussion that divides people. Um, then don't pick topics that divide people.

(40:00):
I'm sure Core's Light isn't going tocome out with a new can featuring
a prescription for the new abortion pill. I'm sorry, they're just not gonna
do that. Or you know,Miller Light's gonna come out with one featuring
the Bible on it. I mean, people are not going to do that.
They avoid the topics that divide. And of course there's more to get

(40:20):
to the story coming up next hour, but also coming up next hour,
we're gonna get to hold my beerand watch this, and uh, we're
gonna talk about selling beer at thebaseball games. We've got stories on that.
It's what's on tap. To hangwith this, We've got plenty more
to get to next hour. We'llbe right back. And the teacher said,
no, Bobby, there's no suchtime as berre o'clock. Fire that
teacher. This is what's on tapradio. If you're here in West Michigan

(40:47):
and you have insurance needs, whynot support somebody who supports us? Ring
all the ten Hacken Insurance. Reachout to our buddy John Clunder that's Ring
All the ten Hacken Insurance RTI GrandRapids dot Com. Can you feel I

(41:09):
see you there? Checking your head. Yeah, you're in the car listening
to this show. Welcome back,Welcome to hour number two. What's on
tap radio? Glad you're hanging outwith us. It's the first hour.
We've been talking about this controversy thatby Light's gotten themselves into. But they
have come out and said, yeah, we never intended in dividing anybody or

(41:31):
upsetting anybody. Okay, we're gonnaget you. We're gonna get more into
that coming up. We will,we will, we will. And you
know, we cracked open a beerhere at the Beer Logic World headquarters and
drinking emporium. And this was totalcoincidence here in Algan, Michigan that I
have this uh buddy Bill stopped inand brought some beer uh from the Burning

(41:55):
Foot Folks. Um, Yeah, the Burning Foot Festival. You got to
check that out here in Michigan. But they hooked him up with this beer.
And we've had beer from Starving Artistout of Luddington, Michigan before.
And I remember the slogan it saysjudge beer, not people. And it's
one of the things that he's bigon. He's just like, hey,
just don't be a jerk, youknow, treat people nicely. That's this

(42:15):
thing, and I'm gonna try andtreat this beer nicely. I cracked it
open, we tried it. It'sthe Dark Fairy Imperial Porter. I believe
it's a nine nine and a halfpercent vanilla bean porter with mixed berries.
And I'm just gonna go out ona limbit. Bill and I were talking
during the break. Everybody has adifferent palette. This one's not for me.

(42:39):
The berries really overpower everything, andso it just tastes like roasted coffee
and a bunch of berries. Idon't get any vanilla and yeah, yeah,
it's so. It's just so,this one's a miss for me.
I do like the brewery, andI'm sure that there are lots of people
who like it. I'm not sayingit's poorly made. I'm just saying it's

(43:01):
not for me. Yeah, that'swhy he happen. Not everybody likes every
beer. But you know, Ido have another one from Brazil's Valley Mama
Try. So we'll talk about thatlater on. But I'm gonna crack that
one open and let's get back intothis story, um real quick. For
one more thing here. Um.During the last segment, I made a
comment about you know, you won'tsee other breweries jumping on the bandwagon of

(43:25):
taking on controversial subjects. Breweries havebeen doing this for a long time,
and we've talked about this on thisshow. You know it should breweries get
involved with politics, stay out ofit. Involve with social issues, stay
out of it. There are certainones that are acceptable in the market as
a whole. Will back you up. Black Lives Matter, as far as

(43:45):
you know, going out there andsupporting equal rights for people of color,
absolutely, people will get behind thatum. But there are some very divisive
issues that will drive people to hateor brand and so proceed with caution.
That's your public service announcement brought toyou by the bereology guy here, and

(44:09):
I don't want to speak for Jameshere on that. But there are certain
things that will draw people in andbring them together, and you can rally
around causes and efforts, and thereare others that are just taboo, and
it doesn't matter which side of theargument is. I've seen people go after
Christian breweries. I've seen people goafter different minority breweries. I've seen people

(44:31):
go after women owned breweries and it'slike, wait, but why are you
doing this. People go after peoplejust so many different things, like guys,
guys, quit being a jerk. Here's a public announcement, don't do
this and watch this, brought toyou by the rain Naalda ten Haagen insurance

(44:52):
group, where they'll ensure you forjust about everything except this. Yeah,
we're gonna get more into this lifecontroversy here in a second. I got
my thoughts as well, but notbefore we get into the hole my being
and watched this. What the questionis, what is the dumbest drunk thing
you've ever done? Not answering thatquestion, think about two limitations have not
run out. Whatever you're thinking,I bet you can't top this one.

(45:15):
So there's a thirty six year oldguy named Joseph Moulton who got hammered one
Saturday, and he broke in oneof the places you shouldn't break into a
police station. And what did hedo into police station? You ask,
Well, he pooped on the floor. What. Yeah, it happened at

(45:35):
a police headquarters and Naples. Hewant to guess where? Oh, well,
you said, Naples. So I'mgoing Florida, Florida, Yeah,
Florida. Man poops on Flora andpolice station that's not all he did.
Oh wait, there's more. Oh, there's more. Here's how it went
down. First, he scaled thefence outside, got into an unlocked cop
car and hung out there for afew minutes. Then he hid behind some

(45:55):
bushes until no one was looking, found a hoe, shoved it under the
door and turned it on, andthe lobby ended up flooding with an inch
of water. Somehow no one noticedany of this. And then once in
the building, he took a showerin the locker room, put on a
police uniform a bulletproof vest, tosseda thousand dollars police radio into a toilet,

(46:20):
and defecated on the floor of thewomen's bathroom. And he was gone
before anyone realized what happened. Butthey were able to identify him because it
turned out he left his wallet andID behind. Oh my gosh, they
found it in the cop car thathe'd gotten into outside. But that's not
actually where they tracked him down.See what happened is an A ployee at
a nearby seven to eleven called thecops after Joseph walked in, still drunk

(46:45):
by the way wearing an official policejacket, tried to buy a beer,
but they turned him down because hewas too intoxicated. He was gone by
the time they got there, butthey found him a few hours later.
He was shirtless at this point,so apparently he ditched a police uniform.
He tried to hide into some bushesagain, but they found him and took
him into custody and turned out hewas so drunk he didn't remember any of

(47:07):
it. But here's the thing. He was able to pull off all that
crap for hour. You said, all that crap, I see what you
did there, because he defecated onthe floor. Seriously, he did this
over over what would you say, like a day? Now, this happened
in a in a night or inone night? Yeah, so overnight like

(47:27):
like for to be able to pullit off. Normally, when somebody's that
drunk, they've got him picked upin twenty minutes. No, not here,
not in Naples, Florida. Maybemaybe they're answering a call. I
don't know what it was, butthey weren't around when he flooded out the
police station and then you know, stole a police uniform, defecated in the
women's bathroom. But the good newsis they were able to track him down

(47:47):
and arrest him and he doesn't rememberany of it. And yes, he's
facing charges of burglary and grand theft. So your whole my beer and watched
this. A guy broke into apolice station and pooped on the floor and
this has been brought buy rien Altenakean insurance group. Well, yeah,
they'll u they'll cover you for justabout everything, but they ain't cover me

(48:07):
for this. No, yeah, that one was on the policy. I'm
sorry, Wow, that is Idon't know this. We do a lot
of these. Uh, hold mybeer. And watched this and normally the
story wraps up a lot quicker thanAnd then he did this, and then
he did this, and then hedid this, and then he left and

(48:28):
then he did this. I likethe fact that he was drunk wearing the
cop coat and tried to buy abeer and they were like, no,
sir, you're too drunk. Theydidn't think it, like, wait,
you're not our real cop. Ithink that he pretty much knew that he
was in a real cop when hecomes, you know, staggering in Probably
he probably his barefoot. I don'tknow. There is survalance. I haven't
seen this survalance, but it's outthere. But that's your whole my beer

(48:50):
and watched this all right, moreto come, including we're gonna get into
um oh selling beer at the MajorLeague ballparks this season. This is what's
on to Brado. We'll be rightback. Beer has hops, hops or
plants. Plants make salad, sobeer is salad. Yeah, what's on
tap radio? James and Chad talkingabout beer rights. You're in luck,

(49:30):
Ladies and gentlemen, whatever you identifyas, You're in luck because I have
a little land yap for you.Oh land yapp extra value, damn rights,
Picky. Backing off our whole mybeing rewatched this and transitioning back into

(49:51):
our trans discussion of the but Lightstory. I have little extra value when
it comes to whole my be andwatch this because we were talking about earlier
in the show these videos that arepopping off all over TikTok and Instagram reels
whatever it is, of different videos. I mean of the light boycotts.

(50:14):
But people are on I mean peopleare really upset, really upset of their
beloved brand of bud Light has comeout and given a can of to a
transactivist and that this is really reallyupset the demo that particular drinks the but
light, this fraternity party, crowdboy, frat boy, frat boy.

(50:37):
Yeah, it's right out of touch. You know, the ones that we're
buying the beer. Maybe they're notbuying as much as they been buying in
previous years, Brandon decline. Butnow they're really not buying. It's it's
way down down three billion dollars invalue. Yeah, I mean, it's
not gonna land well with the demo. When you alienate them, there is

(51:01):
going to be an interesting thing tolook at. This is gonna be one
of those things that we look backon, kind of like I think this
is gonna be one of those thingswe look back on the kind of like
COVID We look back and say, remember when we were wiping down our packages
and our groceries before we walked inside. You know, it's like, are
we gonna look back on this thesame way a year from now or two
years from now and go, well, things well, we'll blow over.

(51:23):
It will eventually, like all thingsdo. But how long will it go
on? Is the question? Justask Richard Nixon. Yeah, we all
forgot about that. Oh wait, never mind, But there's this incident Chad
that happened at a Walmarts of allplaces. And this happened April seventeenth,
around nine pm. And this isa video that's gone viral, and apparently

(51:45):
what happened is there was this adultmale identified as Jay Justin D. Kane.
He's forty four, he identifies yes, yes, he's forty four Depica
and he was in the store arethrowing things at people. According to the
police, the video, which hasgone viron, TikTok and Twitter, shows

(52:07):
Kane destroying cases of Bush beer, though a motive hasn't been released, but
many on social media are speculating andmay have something to do with the current
boycott of anhydro Bush products led byconservatives upset about the trans influencer posted the
video promoting bud Light this is whatstarted this all. But the video shows

(52:28):
just taking case after case of Bushand Budweiser products and just throwing it and
trashing it on the ground, andthere were people filming it, and then
he started throwing the cans at thepeople. Of course, turns into a
very dangerous situation at that point, but the video ends by showing Kane being
led away by our officers. Inthe aftermath of the mess that he made

(52:52):
and horrified onlookers appeared perplexed by theentire scene. Kane was later rested and
booked into the Shawnee Need Department ofCorrections on the charges of criminal damage to
property, felony, battery, physicalcontact and rude. I don't never heard
of physical contact and rude, butapparently that's a charge there in Indiana insulting

(53:14):
and assaults. So there's this manin a viral video destroying beer at a
Walmart's charged with exposing himself. Whowas actually charged with exposing himself too,
okay according the headline. But again, these are people that are outraged that
their beloved product is going this marketingroutes. I like, see this this

(53:35):
to me all right, I'm sorry, I just some of the outrage I
think is just so ridiculous. Um, you don't need to shoot up cans
with with a machine gun, buta man, it does make for great
video, get blown up. Itcould be anything. People love it.
And now here's this guy, DustinKane and Topeka, um who goes into

(53:58):
a Walmart. It's like, Ihate you, bud Light, and he
starts smashing beer everywhere and some youcan tell the guy who doesn't have a
friend in the world, because ifhe did, if he had a friend,
somebody would have said to him,Dustin stung beer back, maybe apologize,
I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. My friend's just out of Bush.
It's not bud Light. Well that'swhat they say in a video.

(54:19):
They say that in the video. They're like, dude, why is he
doing the Bush? I guess whatBush do. Now you know it's ant
hazer Bush products. But again, when he alienated demo that loves you and
that's that's their drink. If youhave this demo for years and years,
this for Turney demo, Okay, you don't go and alienate them because that's

(54:40):
who buys your product. My takeon it is, I don't care what
bud Light does. I don't spendmy dollars on bud Light. I don't
drink bud Light. So if theywant to, if this is the route
they want to go, I'm gonnasit back and watch what happens. That's
my take on it. Because peoplekeep asking me, James, what do
you think about this? What doyou think about this? I got my
canup hopcorn. I'm just sitting backand I'm watching the show right now.

(55:02):
But I will say this, James. If it was a beer that you
drink religiously, that is always on, you know, for you, it's
always in your fridge. Like aSaint Arnold art car India Pale Ale.
Okay, and all of a sudden, m Saint Arnold art Car, the
sales from Senioral art car. We'regoing to benefit something to it, to

(55:23):
dismantle or attack something that you holdsacred, all of a sudden, like
if they were trying to um someof the proceeds of their sales of art
car went to the New York Yankees. Okay, there you go, right,
I will take them into a fieldand shoot them up. I'm just

(55:47):
kidding, you know, you takethem out and you him with a baseball.
How did you film it? Becausepeople love watching the stuff blow up.
Yeah, No, I might takeI just wouldn't write anymore. I
wouldn't be going on TikTok and that'sand and and Twitter and real and Instagram
going I'm outraged and go to mylocal Walmart and start taking you know,

(56:07):
cans of art car. I won'tdo that. I would just don't understand.
I would just go you know what, I'm gonna spend my dollars somewhere
else, right, Yeah, juststop doing it. And then when somebody
says, hey, how come you'renot drinking art car anymore? James,
Oh, well, you know, they started giving money in the New York
Yankees, and so I just stopped. Yeah, you know, and that's
it. It's like, oh wow, and I'm going to boycotting and I'm

(56:29):
gonna cut this segment. I'm gonnasend it over to Brock Wagner, don't
you Dare Brock. Yeah, he'sthe founder of a saying it. But
that's just my take on it.Look, I don't buy by light I
want to. I'm just gonna sitback with my popcorn and see how this
plays out. Yeah. I mentionedthis before that you know, you don't
there are certain subjects that are taboo. But you know, if if,

(56:51):
hypothetically, if you opened up yourbrewery as being the first trans brewery and
you only make beer for trans andthen all of a sudden, you know,
here you are. You're out there. You're not going to alienate your
demo by doing something you're not.And you're in your demo. By the
way, for those of you whoare hip on the on the marketing lingo
or the it's your demographic and that'sthat's who's buying your product. That's who

(57:15):
who your customers are. UM.But I'd be willing to bet you know
you say, hey, you knowwhat you you You put Jerry Folwell on
a can of the first Transper andall of a sudden, it's like,
wait a minute, you just alienatedyour demo. UM. And I'm not
saying that. Uh. And what'sreally interesting, we didn't get into this
story and I sent it and it'sreally interesting. But believe it or not,

(57:38):
Molson excuse me that Molson Coors backin the nineteen seventies started discriminating against
gay employees and they were found guiltyin a lawsuit again where the union filed
against him, And so bud Lightinadvertently became the most popular bar or beer
at gay bars by accident, becausethey didn't they would not buy cores Light

(58:05):
in the nineteen eighties in gay barsbecause of the lawsuit, and so bud
Light was already winning that demographic. They didn't need to appeal to it.
Um. And and they've been winningthat demographic for a long time, all
because of that everybody else has beenplaying catch up. Another reason why again,
bud Light, the number one bestselling beer in the world, didn't
need to go in alienate their theirnumber one, as James likes to call

(58:30):
them, the p one. That'syour topographic, that's your top demographic.
Who who does that? So umAnyway, I think we've we've talked about
it enough. We said we were, we said a couple weeks ago,
we're not, We're not even goingto talk about it. Well, I
just don't know if it's going tobe it's a story that's gonna be going
away anytime soon. I don't thinkso. I don't think it is,
and it'd be. I'm going tobe more interested in watching the marketing aspects

(58:52):
see how much value it really loses. But that's for another time. James,
all right, more to come.We got to talk about Oh the
bruces put out some numbers. Let'sshift gears and talk about craft beers.
This is what's on tap radio. We'll be right back. The more you
weigh, the harder you are tokidnap, stay safe, drink more beer.

(59:13):
You've got what's on tap radio.I can dig it. Just says,
let's chill out at need to weneed to relax, you know.
We come out of this and Imean, I feel kind of bad because

(59:37):
we like to bring you news andeverything that's happening from around the beer world.
By the way, welcome back toWhat's on Tap Radio. And I
felt like so the first time ina long time, we really kind of
chuck the script and just spoke passionatelyabout an industry that we're near and dear
about. But more importantly, Ithink bigger than beer is people, and

(59:59):
just you know, we care aboutour audience, we care about people in
general. And you know what, there's nothing like being able to just crack
open a beer with your friends.I'm hanging out here with Bill, who
stopped by, and you know,he brought some beer. He brought some
beer. He got some beer froma friend to his from the Burning Foot,
So we had some harbor light beerand we're gonna just crack open another

(01:00:20):
one. You know. Before that, we're talking about our friends at Bras's
Valley Brewing Company where we just hada Mama tries. James is about to
crack open a beer. I'm aboutto crack a beer. I'm pretty and
you know and James started off theshow, what do you say? It's
my favorite part of the week.I get to hang out with Chad and
I'm like, you know, andour beautiful audience. Yeah, And that's
the thing. It's just like, hey, you know what, we need

(01:00:43):
to get back to it. Andso there's a lot to talk about about
this industry. But real quick, why port these beers our audience. I
don't care what affiliation you are now, your political party, if you're trans,
gay, straight, I don't care. As long as you're enjoying the
show. That's all I care about. I want you to enjoy the show

(01:01:04):
and take care of the beer peoplearound you. That's it, because that's
what Chad and I don't get onin alienate because we love our listeners.
We love our listeners and whatever they'reinto, Hey, that's what you're into.
But as long as you support thelocal breweries or support the craft breweries,
hey, we appreciate it. Youknow, this is something I'm gonna
bring this back full circle. IfI'm sure, I am positive there's something

(01:01:27):
that I believe in that somebody inour audience totally disagrees with. I hope
you don't stop listening to this fineprogram just because we disagree on capital gains
attacks or you know, or whetheror not you know, I mean whatever
it is like, you know, something like I will give out a controversial
topic right here that I believe in. You're ready for this, and this

(01:01:50):
might alienate some people, but I'mgonna say it anyways. I don't believe.
I don't believe that the Astros cheatedas much as people thought they did
in twenty seven teen. Boo justsaid it. Okay, controversial, That's
all I'm gonna say about that.Great. Well, we just lost.
We just lost our demo in NewYork, Los Angeles. All right,
all right with that being said,I need a crack a beer, Chad,

(01:02:14):
Yes, yeah, please do.Okay, by the way, we
did too. We just opened fromthe variety pack three Floyd's, the Jinx
proof Logger, nice easy drinker.Um yeah, three Floyds out of the
variety peck. Well you got.Speaking of vrdy pack. I like how
you went there, Chad, becauseI'm also pulling a beer from a variety
pack. And this bridy pack iscalled the um oh man, I forgot

(01:02:37):
the name of it. There's speakingof marketing as the genius is here that
we are. We're talking about marketingand branding. Just a moment ago,
we forgot the beer we brought tothe town. Forget. I just got
the name of the box. Butit's from Knarkey and it's from Oscar Blues
Brewing Company. And this is theCosmic mutant Ipa Oscar Blues Brewing Company,

(01:03:00):
the Cosmic mutant Ipa. This cameout of variety pack that had uh the
mom of Pills. It had Dale'sPale Ale had this one and another IPA.
You know, I like the varietypacks chat. So I'm going right
now all of our all of ouranti IPA fans are losing their mind.
Were Marshal matt Man, Sorry there, I know it. Fred, Sorry

(01:03:20):
Fred. Superior Pest Control they're there, by the way, Superior Pest Control
bringing you this segment here. Whybecause well we're gonna get into some deep
dive into what's going on in theindustry news and of course Superior Pest Control,
West Michigan. They always send thestuff. And we got an update
from the Brewers Association. Yeah, and James liking this. Yeah, this
is through alternate dimensions of time andspace, a new mutinous landing with a

(01:03:45):
supernatural ye strain that explodes layers ofhot flavor. What's believed beyond the reach
of the brewing ingenuity is that ais that Canna beer or an action figure
man just the experience middle three IPAseries. So this is a cosmic mutant
IPA and this is at I don'teven know what alcohol by volume and it's

(01:04:06):
seven percent alcohol by volume. Seventhat's right, Surgeon General warning, watch
out for the kung fu grip.So speaking of canarchy and speaking of craft
breweries, the Brewers Association released somenumbers and if you're not familiar to the
Brewer Association, and they are atrade association representing small and independent craft breweries
around America, and they released theannual production figures for the US brewing industry.

(01:04:32):
And uh, the overall growth Chad, the beer market has shrunk three
percent by volume twenty two. That'shappened again, that I mean, so
it's not like the beer market isshrunk for the first time. We're like,
oh no, this guy's falling. No, this is this has happened,
has happened, But sales growth wasstronger than volume due to a pricing

(01:04:55):
share shift to smaller breweries who aremore likely to sell on site via distributed
draft, as well as the continuedchannels shift back to on premise, which
has a higher average than retail value. Craft Rudy's provided a lot of jobs,
a nine percent increase from twenty twentyone, so almost two hundred thousand
jobs. So to put all ofthis in context, basically what's happened is

(01:05:18):
is if you buy a beer ina bar, the it's going to cost
more than if you buy a sixpack at the store and go home and
drink it, which, as weknow, from twenty twenty one we were
still recovering from the plandemic, andwhich also explains why we have a nine
percent increase in jobs because from twentytwenty one, so really get to remember,
you're operating off of a low baseand so when things are bad,

(01:05:43):
it's easy to improve. Well, despite that, as James already alluded to,
beer is still in the decline isan overall beverage, but craft beer
only went up one tenth of onepercent, which from thirteen point one to
thirteen point two, which is reallyjust a flat growth. It's really not
there. But what's interesting about that, James I dug into this. This

(01:06:05):
is the first time since the BrewersAssociation has been reporting these numbers that craft
beer has actually been flat. Ithas been growing. Craft beer has been
growing year over year. This isI mean, yeah, technically it's up
one tenth of one percent, butthat's considered flat. Every year craft beer

(01:06:27):
has increased in market share just alittle bit, just a little so throughout
the overall market declines. Yeah, throughout the year, there were five hundred
forty nine new brewery openings and threehundred nineteen closings. But throughout the year,
like I said, there was fivehundred forty nine new brewery openings three
hundred nineteen closings. But I dowant to look at the top brewing companies.

(01:06:48):
Obviously you can't get to all fifty, but I will do the top
ten. This is a top tencraft brewing companies coming at number ten.
Brooklyn Brewery out of Brooklyn, numbernine, till Ray Beer Brands. What
is under the hill Ray Beer Brands? I think that's the uh, what
is it? The Kentucky Cold Snacks. That's a massive man, Yeah,

(01:07:11):
yeah, Kentucky Cold Snacks number eight. That's yeah, I'm not sure actually,
but maybe we will look that up. Number eight Ken Archie, which
again talking about this Oscar blues andI'm drinking right now, can Archie.
Number seven, Stone Brewing, numbersix, Artisanal Brewing Ventures, number five,
Gambrinus Company. Again we're talking aboutthe top ten brewing companies Crop brewing

(01:07:34):
Companies. Number four, the DuvelleMorgatt USA, Number three Sierra Nevada,
Number two Boston Beer Company. Andthe number one again, I don't know
how many years in a row.DG, Yeah, DG Yengling and Sons
Brewing. The top three didn't change, so top three didn't change. But

(01:07:57):
while we're on it, let's lookat just the top ten overall brewing companies.
This is coming at number ten theKieran Leon or Lion Karen Lyon.
That's a new Belgium brewing. Numbernine, Boston Beer, number eight,
Fifth Co USA. I'm not surewhat what's under fifth Co. I don't
know, let's go, I don'tknow. I was still looking up the

(01:08:19):
number seven, DG, Yengling andSons. Number six diaggio am I saying
that? Right? Yeah, gowith it, go with confidence, all
right? Number five passa Blue Ribbon. Number four Heineken again, this is
the top overall brewing companies number let'ssee a number five passa Blue Ribbon,

(01:08:40):
number four, Heineken, number three, Constellation, number two, Molson Corps.
And sitting at number one, AnnHAIs your bush still in the number
one seat? By the way,I looked up this till Ray brands.
Apparently it's h Montuck, which isthe Montucky, and then it's Sweetwater,
Green Flash and Alpine. Okay, real quick, we got about a minute

(01:09:01):
level look up Fifth Co Chief CoUSA, Fifth Co, Fifth Co.
Yeah, and then again this isagain the Brewer Association releasing the annual craft
Brewery Industry Production Report and the topfifty producing craft brewery companies for twenty twenty
two. Dg Yingling continues to beat the number one spot. Chat would
you find out? I'm trying, but it wants to know if I'm twenty

(01:09:23):
one years older. It's apparently importedby Labatt USA. But the brands uh
genesee Genesee, uh wow yeah,a magic hat pyramid okay, um yeah,
and they do contract brewing for thebreweries brands drink ten years ago.
Yeah, yeah, I'll take brandsI haven't seen on the shelf in twenty

(01:09:47):
years for five. Apparently someone's drinkingthem because they're at the number eight spot
on the top fifty companies. Butthen, all right, that's you have
been your economic report according to theBrewer Association. Coming up in the last
segment, let's talk about beer atthe ballpark. This is what's on tap
radio. Will be right back.Believe in something they say, we believe,

(01:10:09):
We'll have another beer. This iswhat's on tap radio. Back to
James and Chad. Tantric Brewing Companylocated in Alegant, Michigan, prop sponsors
What's on Tap Radio and located righthere in my backyard. Chad Pilbeam,
the beer logic guy, go inthere and ask for free What's on tap
high five and check out the amazingbeer's Tantric Brewing Tantric Brewing dot com Tantric

(01:10:32):
Brewing dot Com. Last segment ofWhat's on Tap Radio over the Week starts
now. I hope you've been enjoyinga ride. I haven't lightened up.

(01:10:54):
Hell I know, I got anupdate, Chad, I got an updates.
I could not think of the nameof the mixer that I was drinking
out of the Oscar Blues Chat Itis the conundrum. It's the Conundrum pack.
It's a cannundrum conundrum. Can yougotta put emphasis on the can James.

(01:11:17):
James was in the middle of aconundrum himself, trying to figure out
the name. What a conundrum,I fund myself. Yeah, it's got
the Hazy Blues Ipa Oscar Lager, the Dale's Pale Ale, the Mama Little
MoMA Little Yellow Pills, and thenthe mutant Ipa, which I'm drinking right
now. But this is a canundrumVrdy pack. Like I said, I'm

(01:11:39):
a huge, huge fan of theVridy packs. It's a trend that's happening
in twenty twenty three, and Iwould like to see this trend continue.
I'd like to see more breweries putout the mixers out there. But this
segment, last semement, what wason top of Rader brought to you by
Tantrick Brewing Company. I was justgonna say, if you swing by Tantrick
Brewing Company and you pick up theirKinky series, Yeah, it's a series

(01:12:00):
of six or eight different of theirbarrel aged beers, and yeah, you
can take home a variety pack ofthat right there and get yourself some of
that. Remember they're an Alligan,Michigan. I know what you're thinking.
You're like, wait a minute,it's Allgan. Is kind of the beer
Muta triangle because you're forty minutes fromHolland, forty minutes from Grand Rapids,
and forty minutes from Kalamazoo. Andyou're forty minutes from South Haven too.

(01:12:24):
So if you want to go seeBill and give them what's on tap radio
High five over at Harbor Light, can go do that too. But I
want to thank Tantrick Burwing for bringingyou this and stop in. Remember,
go in there, tell them whosent you, and James will pay your
tab. I will not pay yourtab, all right. Before we get
out of here. Before we getout of here, we gotta get a

(01:12:45):
couple of stories. My favorite, one of my favorite subjects baseball. Baseball's
back and new for this year.Baseball had some several changes this year,
including a new pitch clock. I'mstill trying to get adjusted to get over.
It just means that they make theboring game less boring and it gets
done a lot faster. Sounds likea true not a bay that's right,

(01:13:10):
which you know. Adding a pitchclock drastically shortened game times. So nine
inning games are down thirty one minutes. That's an average of three hours nine
minutes from last year. That's alsothirty one minutes fewer that you can drink
beer. Yeah, two hours andthirty eight minutes this year. This is
the fastest time since nineteen eighty four. But the problem is Chad most people

(01:13:33):
seem to like to change is Idon't like I'm the jury's not out with
me on it. Okay, butthere's one big problem happening. Shorter,
faster games means less opportunity for fansto spend money at the ballpark on some
concessions, merchandise, and of coursebeer. So historically teams have stopped selling

(01:13:55):
alcohol after the seventh in inc butteams have already he pushed that back to
after the eighth inning now, andthose teams are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas
Rangers, Minnesota Twins, the MilwaukeeBrewers, and a handful of other teams
are also talking suits the Astros. The Houston Astros have announced that they are

(01:14:16):
also pushing alcoholic beverages back through theeighth inning, so selling by seat vendors
will continue to be stopped at theseventh inning at the Minime Park, the
Astros will keep about forty percent ofthe selling locations open throughout the end of
the game for purchase of both foodand beverages, including alcohol. So I'm
gonna get The Astros continue to reservethe right to serve fans at its discretion,

(01:14:43):
and alcohol cut off will be fourhours after first pitch or after the
billing management's discretion. So yeah,I'm just gonna say this. I'm gonna
get on my high horse and I'mgoing I'm gonna complain. Remember whenever they
started opening up sales on Sunday inTexas before noon, oh alcohol sales right
and crime rates did what nothing? And they stayed exactly the same. The

(01:15:04):
same people that we're commenting on thatare commenting on this the road after the
game exactly. I am sitting hereand I'm saying this, and I'm saying
this right now. When you changethe law or the rule and it makes
things more dangerous, it just moredangerous. And I'm doing that with air

(01:15:26):
quotes. It means the rule didn'tneed to be there in the first place.
So you cannot tell me that, yeah, we're cutting off sales after
the seventh inning for the public safety, and now you're cutting off an inning
later and speeding up the exit forwhen these people are gonna lead. It
has never been about safety. I'mtelling you right now. It's all about

(01:15:46):
it's bs and it's money. I'msorry. Obviously those people don't know how
or don't realize how expensive alcohol isat a stadium. We talked about this.
I don't care what the numbers say. An average beer at the ballpark
at minute may it's about twelve dollars. You're telling me you're gonna down you
know, seven eight beers at twelvedollars a piece. I don't think so.

(01:16:11):
I know some people that go there. I mean there might be you
know people there. I'm sure theremight be one or two. There's a
lot of oil and gas money. And I know some people that bring their
corporate card and and they do abeer and inning. I'm like, but
the lines, think about the lines, though the lines are always long,
Think about how many times you gottago to the bathroom and the bathroom yeah,
geez, all right, I knewthis was gonna happen. I called

(01:16:33):
it. I was like, well, the less time is less money for
merch and less money for food vendors. Well, now now we gotta make
make it more more dangerous. I'mdoing the air quotes because I really don't
think it's going to change anything anyway. It's not all right, well,
all right, let's let's put abow on the show here and wrap things
up with this story. This ismy favorite beer story of the week right

(01:16:55):
here. Uh man, I tellyou what you want to talk about,
likeness on cans, and I'll likenessinto advertising. How about Wade Boggs,
legendary Hall of Fame baseball player. He's demanding justice for his likeness being used
and what happened the quotes? Well, Wade Boggs, he's the iconic World
Series winning third baseman in the Hallof Famer who spent eighteen years in the

(01:17:16):
majors. And according to him,he's staring at a can of paps blue
ribbon and looking at its mustache mascotcool blue, and he's like, that's
me, man, he noticed thelikeness back in nineteen eighty three. And
now he's saying he's taking the legendaryfight to the breweries. Like why is
he saying? Why is he sayinghim? Now? Can it out?

(01:17:39):
Now, well, he's on alegendary quest to uncover the truth. He's
been on this mission for a while, but now he's retired, and so
I guess he's got more time in. But he dropped a video expose a
demanding beer justice for baseball fans andbeer drinkers across the country. As Wade
Boggs says in his video, thenumbers don't lie. In nineteen eighty three,
Wade Boggs went eighteen for forty fouragainst perhaps Blue Ribbons hometown of Milwaukee,

(01:18:02):
and the brand was founded in eighteenforty four. That's right, he
went eighteen for forty four. Thebrand was founding eighteen forty four. Coincidence,
I don't think so. Perhaps BlueRibbon comes in twelve ounces. Boggs
is a twelve time All Star coincidence, I don't think so. No way.
Also, during his career in Boston, Wave Boggs had forty seven triples.

(01:18:25):
Perhaps Blue Ribbon four point seven percentalcohol coincidence, I don't think so.
In Wade Boggs wants the truth. He can handle the truth. He
wants it now, and he's fightingfor fans everywhere who also want the truth
and their from their ice cold, refreshing Paps Blue Ribbon, which is why
he's demanding beer, justice and restitutionfrom Paps right now. His list of
demands admit the truth that Wade Bogsis cool Blue. Two, give fans

(01:18:50):
a few pahaps Blue Ribbons on WadeBogs. Three, name a brewery after
Wade Boggs. Four, put WadeBogs on bottles of paps Blue Ribbon.
Five, published Wade bogs favorite chickenrecipe, and finally, make Wade Boggs
the official spokesperson for Perhaps Blue Ribbon. He says, Perhaps Blue Ribbon ows
me and fans across the nation theythey're deserving of the truth. Boggs is

(01:19:13):
blue, says Wade Boggs. AndI'm after justice and nothing tastes better than
justice than a nice cold PBR.You know what, I will be more
than happy to support Wade Bogs ona pass Flue Ribbon beer can. He's
already on it is He's cool Blue. That's the thing. But you gotta
admit it, and you gotta publishhis favorite chicken recipe. I love it,

(01:19:38):
And you gotta buy some beer forthe fans and then make him the
official spokesperson Yeah, it's on histime. I love this. I liked
Wade Boggs a long time, butI sock such a good story. I
like anything on a nice baseball story. That's my friend. Is this episode
