Spanier said, Taurres here not got enough to drive? Well,
guess what I'm driving. We're driving this show. I'll introduce

(00:45):
you when I decide to introduce you. So producer Bo
welcome in, Don welcome in, De Sager, welcome in. Steve
Hartman was in earlier today. Uh, Bernie freddo will follow us?
And that voice you hear is Ernie Spanning. What's going
on now? You do you know when you have Kyle
Bush or Joey Logano sitting next to you, you let

(01:05):
them drive. Okay, you pull over and you say here
are the keys to the car. You drive? You understand
maybe when you go to a bar and you're hanging
out with Fabio. You let you take the back seat
and you get the leftovers from Fabio. You understand that,
don't you. I understand this is a nineteen eighties six
you don't have Nobody knows who Fabio is. Okay, can
you give me a uh bad Bunny? Remember when when

(01:29):
bad Bunny did something at Dodger Stadium and you thought
a rabbit got on the field. This is you know,
we we can't be having Fabio references. That's why you
can't drive anymore. You can't see. It's getting dark out early.
Ba I'm driving Miss Daisy over here is what's going on.
I can't have you can't see five feet in front
of you. When you're playing two on two basketball and

(01:51):
Lebron's on your team, Lebron gets the last shot, not you.
You understand that, don't you. You're absolutely right, and that's
why I'm Lebron. You're Westbrook. You'll sit on the bench. Unfortunately,
unfortunately Pat Bev is out tonight. That would be Jason Martin.
Arnie Spaniard is in. We are in the Tire Rack
dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios. Arnie, First of all,

(02:11):
how's everything going? Everything good. You know, we have the
Arizona Wildcats as a two and a half point underdog
to an FCS team later. So once I saw you
were in, I mean, that's a guarantee loss. If if
you're in a state where you where there's legal sports betting.
Just take North Dakota State. It's a lot. We we
don't lose the teams called North Dakota whoever. Okay that
that that's not you're not playing North Dakota whoever. You're

(02:32):
playing North Dakota State and they're gonna stop the same thing.
That's okay. Let me now you're moving up in the
in size here. Now you're playing a Power five conference.
We're a good team. We're not the same team like
the last couple of years. Well we'll just trounce them.
So you all right, We'll keep you updated on Arizona
as it happens. Let's get into some of the stuff
that happened. First of all, as the Sager told you,

(02:53):
crazy week in College Station Texas. A and m though
is bouncing back nicely, up ten to three on Miami. Uh,
Michigan State the would they they are, They are getting
it taken to him in Washington against the Washington Huskies
thirty six to fourteen to score there and he stayed
up ahead. Arnie. You know, kind of a quiet day
in college football. You know, because I'm such a gentleman,

(03:16):
because I'm such a nice guy, I'm gonna open up
the floor to you. I have a thought on what
the biggest story in college football was today. But since
you're my guest uninvited, but nonetheless my guest uninvited, what
would you say the biggest story is of the college
football day? As Miami is in the red zone driving
here early in the second quarter against I'm not I'm
not sure if you're talking about colost games or something

(03:37):
like that. Just to me, was it started off today
with a something I was interested in? Was it was
Oklahoma in Nebraska. Um, you know I saw that Urban
Meyer and um uh, I forget who else picked the
picked Nebraska to win the game, Desmond Howard to to
win have Nebraska win the game, which that was a joke.
Uh yeah, whether there wasn't Reggie it was. I think

(03:59):
it was des and Howard that one. I had to
do it. But but um, I'm kind of curious to
see how it's gonna go all play out for Nebraska.
You know who's going to be the eventual head coach. Um.
You know, Oklahoma just absolutely Um just took him and
it could have been a lot worse. Uh, they weren't
even in the same class. It's really kind of a
shame there, Aaron, because Nebraska one time, UM was like

(04:23):
a powerhouse and I can't believe it's been what thirty
years where they've done absolutely nothing. This was I feel
like we're talking about army or something like that. They
were power you know, and it it is the equivalent
of when you were growing up. It was army For me,
it was Nebraska. I mean when I was a kid,
NOB mean Nebraska when I started watching college football. I mean,
you already old and gray by that point. But uh,

(04:45):
three national championships in the first four years, or not
the first four years, but in four years in the
early to mid nineties. So let me ask you that,
you know, Jason Martin and I were on last weekend
in this time slot when Nebraska melted down against against
Georgia Southern six forty two yards of total offense to
the final score. Do you believe in the modern era,

(05:07):
I don't want to say the Alabama Georgia level. Let's
say the level below where every couple of years they
can be Michigan. Every couple of years they can be
maybe Notre Dame and make a run, go to eleven
and one, twelve and oh, make a playoff, especially in
the expanded year. Do you believe that at the very
least they can get back to that Sometimes, at the
very least, they shouldn't have had the numbers that Scott
Frost was putting up there. They don't. Scott Frost doesn't

(05:30):
look so bad after today. At least Scott Frost kept
games close. No, and look, I'm not even gonna say
it was, you know, changing conferences or anything like that.
There's no reason why, um, that they can't even get
back to being above average or above five hundred or um,
you know, at least putting of a fight against top
tier teams. I mean, my goodness, they are in Nebraska.

(05:50):
I just don't know what's going on with the recruiting
or why they can't get kids there. Um, And don't
tell me it's about the state of Nebraska anything like that.
It's a power five, you know. It cracks me up.
Close to Texas. They should be able to recruit pretty well.
But go ahead, No, it cracks me up. People say, oh,
you know, well, they lost their whole recruiting base in
Texas when they went to the Big ten. Uh, you

(06:11):
know who. Ohio State's best wide receiver is Jackson Smith
and Jigba first round pick. He's gonna be a first
round pick. He's from Texas. Garrett Wilson first round pick
from the New York Jets this past year. He's from Texas.
But you're talking about big It doesn't even have to
be big names like that. You should be getting enough
to go ahead and put up a better fight than that.
My point is you can't argue like like college football now.

(06:32):
I mean, look, c J. Stroud is from California. DJ
is from California. Bryce youngest from California. Kids go to
where you're gonna win and where you can compete at
the highest level. So don't give me this. They don't
have the recruiting base that. That's the only point that
I'm trying to make is you know, there there is
no I don't know. Kids want to go to where
you're going to be developed for the NFL and be prepared,

(06:54):
uh and win at a high level. So I just
don't buy that you can't win in Nebraska, uh, in
this era of college football? All um. And so I
didn't mean to cut you off there, ARENI, but I
just I don't buy that at all. And well, it
was proven that even before, like thirty years ago, that
Nebraska not just a team that was winning, but they
were a power. So yeah, I mean, there's no reason.
Look at my Arizona Wildcats, one of the worst teams.

(07:15):
You're Connecticut team, one of the worst teams. Um, no
reason my Arizona Wildcats, those shouldn't be more competitive, and
it looks like they're starting to turn around. I can
consider Nebraska in the same boat. There, they weren't that
far down in the bottom there was closed. Um, there's
no reason why you can't recruit when you're in a
power of five conference. There's so many high school players, somebody,

(07:37):
really good high school players. Uh. And and really you're
only asking for a small few every year to come.
And don't forget this. There's also this little thing called
the transfer portal now too, so so you can turn
over your wresta really quick. All right, So, ARENI what
I was gonna when I said I think there's a
clear big story from the day. This is my big
stories from the same time slot Nebraska, Oklahoma was in

(07:58):
the new Eastern time slot. Oklahoma takes care of business.
By the way, I picked Oklahoma to play Alabama for
the National Championship game, No big deal. Here's what I think.
The biggest story of the day is you tell me.
I'm gonna ask you one simple question and you can
tell me no, but you need to get me a reason.
Why is Georgia better this year than they were last year?
I would assume sow or made you assume, so they

(08:19):
won the National Championship. That the only the only reason
I was going to say that is are they really
better than they were last year? Or it is just
nobody closer to them as they were last year. And
I overthinking it because I don't think there's a you know,
I think like number two is so far away from
you know, like Alabama, so far away from Georgia, it
makes Georgia looked that much better. At least that's the

(08:40):
way my mind's thinking. Well, they have through two games
outscored their opponents one thirty to ten um and the
Oregon team that they beat forty nine to three in
Week one, just beat b y U today, and so
I bring it up. I think there's an argument to
be made. I don't know if I believe that they're
better than last year, but I think there's an argument

(09:01):
to be made. So you're just saying you think everybody
else stinks, that's what you're telling me. I just think
there's a bigger gap between Georgia and everybody else than
the past couple of years between the number one and
the number two. A matter of fact, I think it's
a bigger gap that I've seen in a in a
long long time. You disagree on that, or so you
think George is clear number one? Nobody's even close even
before they dropped out about him to the the number two.

(09:22):
I think George is the number one team, especially after
what we saw, as you mentioned against Oregon and again
in the game against South Carolina, they were just trouncing them.
I don't think it's even close. Well, I don't know
if I don't think it's close. I mean Alabama did
go on the road. I mean Georgia has played you know,
they played uh, Oregon on a neutral field. South Carolina stinks,

(09:44):
uh So I don't know that Ohio State is cruising
right now. Michigan has won three games by fifty points,
although I know they haven't played anybody very good. I
don't know that I'm sold that there's that big of
a gap. By the way, maybe Oklahoma's number two with
the way they took care of business today. I don't
know that I'm totally sold that that I think that
the clear number one. I'm not totally sold that that

(10:05):
there's a huge gap between number one and everybody else?
Are you telling me right now today? Everybody else is
playing for second place at this point. If the neutral side,
if George is playing Alabama, I would probably say that
Georgia would probably be And again I'm not uh you know,
one of those uh stats makers odds makers, but I
would think like a six point favorite right now. Interesting.

(10:25):
I would have to look to see or we can
ask Bernie Frido later on in the show what he
would think about that. Yeah, No, I do think George
is the best team. Um, I don't know that I
think they're better than last year though, Arenie, I really don't.
I just think the thing that stands out to me, Arenie,
is I do think they're playing with an increased degree
of confidence. Um, you know, this was a team that
for so many years could not get over the hump,

(10:46):
could not win the big games against Alabama, couldn't beat
l s U uh you know, lost in the playoff.
And that's what I think stands out to me. I
think there may be just as good, maybe not quite
as good, but they're just playing with a different degree
of confidence because they have that, they have almost a
swagger of They took care of business last year. They
knocked off Alabama. They did what they needed to do,
you know what I mean, No, in the South Carolina game,

(11:08):
don't just say South Carolina stinks. I mean, you know,
they're not gonna say they're not a great team there.
But still they they went in there and they handled business.
You know, when you're going and pling a kind of
a rival like that and you're going on the road, Um,
you take nothing for granted there. So they did. That's
why they're number one. They they went in there and
there was a lot of upsets. I mean as Texas

(11:28):
A and m IF. They handled business as some of
the teams that lost, like uh, you know FCS teams
and stuff like that. You know, well, I'll tell you what. Um,
Ryan Fowler covers the Alabama Crimson tied and we're gonna
have him on next. I'm gonna let you ask Ryan Fowler, Uh,
what if if Alabama is significantly behind George at this point?
Busy night. By the way, Arnie Ohio stayed up sixty

(11:50):
three to twenty one. Late in that game, Texas A
and m up ten to three. Miami just missed a
field goal ten minutes left in the second quarter, and
Washington in a little it of a surprise kind of
running uh Michigan State out of the building. So there's
a lot going on on college football tonight. We're going
to get to Ryan follow next erin tors Arny Spaniar

a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer where each week,
well we talk about mental health. I hope to describe it,

(12:58):
give it words. Let's too Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you

Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres, Arnie Spanier and for Jason Martin.
We're company live from the tire rac dot Com studios.
Two quick score updates before we get to Ryan Fowler. One,

(13:22):
the Ohio State Buck Guys. They're they're beating up Toledo
like everybody beats up Arnie Spanier in the Vermont Seniors
Basketball League. There, Ohio State up seventy to twenty one,
seventy points for the Ohio State Buck Guys. Man Another
noteworthy score Arnie over on SEC Network South Florida. How
about this up twenty eight to twenty four on on

(13:45):
the University of Florida. Of course, Florida had that big
win against Utah two weeks ago. They trail with eleven
minutes left. With that said, we do want to go
to the phones and we want to bring in our
buddy Ryan Fowler. Uh. You can hear him on TIED
one point nine two to six pm Eastern time or
Central time, I should say, on Monday through Friday. You
heard him last week with Arnie Spanning. Arnie Spanning your

(14:07):
stole him as a guest from me right under my nose.
I was about to have Ran Fowler and then he
told me he was on with Arnie and VJ last week.
So he is now on with Arnie and I Ryan Fowler?
What's going on? Man? How you doing? It? Was absolutely
complete domination today. Penn State walked into this state, walked
into this state. They smacked those tigers in the mouth.

(14:30):
Is that what you guys want me to talk about?
Or do y'all want to talk about the tide? I mean,
I mean, I'll tell you what the tide. We're kind
of boring today, but you have such a good pulse
on the entire sec Just take us to Auburn. I
mean it was a blood bath. Brian Harrison has came
in on the hot seat. You know. I was told
by people that were there it was as good as
an environment as they've had in a really long time.

(14:53):
And James Franklin and the boys give him a good
butt woman. Yeah, and it looks like it's gonna be
a tough road. I mean, Brian Harrison, I don't think
he's a bad coach, I really don't. I think he's
actually a really good coach. But I just don't know
if it's a fit. And and sometimes it's just not
a fit, you know. I mean, I don't think Scott
Frost is a bad coach. It just wasn't a good fit.

(15:14):
I mean, you gotta go back to Scott Frost and
Central Florida. But you look at Brian Harson for some reason,
it's the culture something there. They turned on him very
very quick. And guys, it's hard to dig out when
when you're in a situation where nothing you do goes correctly.
It's just it's difficult. And when you look at Auburn,
not a good showing. As you said, the crowd was ready,

(15:36):
and that's the worst thing you can do is go
in there and just get absolute funk uh from from
you know, Penn State a team that you know, yeah
they were the favorite, but not by much. But Penn
State walked in there and you know, they look like
a pretty good football team when you look at Penn State.
But uh, that's one when you look at Auburn that
if Bron Harrison is in fact not the coach, whatever

(16:00):
that will be, you may look back in front of
that home crowd of forty one to twelve, that's a
tough place to play. Listen, I'm about the struggles when
they play down in the Leak County. So that's a
tough place to play. But it wasn't for Penn State.
It was completely domination. And offensively, Auburn seems to have
some major issues. And you look at quarterbacks experience. Defensively,

(16:25):
you know that they're okay, but offensively is where they've
got major issues. To the Tigers, Ryan, congratulations, you're tied.
Put up sixty three today. I assumed they could have
put up a hundred if they I agonize you were
old with with with Torres. I mean, you're going the
double overtime here, double overtime. The man barely works. What

(16:47):
are you talking where? Yeah? Anyway, go ahead, Arnie, I
don't mean it. You're you're tied with sixty three though
that I haven't seen them put up sixty three in
a long time. For crying out loud, I mean to
put on, but this was Listen. The home schedule for
Alabama is not good. I mean it's I hate to

(17:08):
know I was a season ticket holder. I mean, you
got U l M, you got Utah State, you got
Vanderbilt next weekend, and you got Austin p later in
the season. I'd hate to know I was a salesman
trying to sell that. But listen, it was a decent crowd.
It was a sloppy performance in the second quarter. If
you removed the second quarter and you just judge Alabama

(17:28):
in the first quarter and the third and the fourth
quarter completely domination. But for some reason they went to sleep.
Other than the final drive in the second quarter, they
had ninety three yards on that particular drive, coming into
that drive with a minute and fifty seventh seconds, they
only put up four offensive yards in the second quarters.

(17:48):
I don't know what happened. He just kind of like
went to sleep. It's like I happened. Okay, we're up
twenty one and nothing and ULM kind of had a
had a pretty good day with with you know, mixing
things up. Terry Bowen is not a bad football coach.
He's he's around you know quite a bit. I see
a lot of tendencies of Bobby Botham him when he's
sitting on the sidelines or calling plays or just his
mannerisms just reminds me of his dad. But but when

(18:09):
you look at U l M inferior competition, I don't
think you can take anything away from this game and
say this is what Alabama. But uh, I go back
to Thursday night and Nick Saban calling out his players
and he made the comment that's kind of stuck with
me throughout the weekend. He said, Alabama needs more hateful
competitors on their team. He said, you don't you look

(18:32):
back at the way that we performed on the road
against Texas. That's going to be something that's gonna linger
around until they go back on the road. And that'll
be in Arkansas in two weeks. And I know Arkansas
is not having a great evening right now, but that'll
be a challenges they'll go there. But Nick said and
saying that they need more hateful competitors guys who hate

(18:52):
the opposing team, and he called his guys out and
they played a little little different level of intensity. Let
me jump on that really quickly. By the way, Ryan,
Arkansas did pull out the win. They held on against
their former coach Bobby Petrino. By the way, while we've
been talking, Ohio State put up another touchdown, seventies seven
points for Ohio State against Toledo, making a you know,

(19:13):
making Alabama sixty whatever. Today look like the bad News Bears.
But real quick, Ryan, to go back to that point,
they need more hateful anger whatever you just said, is
this where where did this come from? Because you know,
I'll say this, I know you don't want to hear it,
but you look at Georgia. They play with that edge,
they play with that chip. They want to rip your

(19:34):
heart out of your chest. I have not seen that
from Alabama in a couple of years now. Is that recruiting?
Is that development? What do you think that is? Because
it does feel like this Alabama program. They're still winning
a lot of games, but it's just it's I don't
think they strike fear in people, or maybe they don't
strike fear. I don't I don't know what it is.
It's just interesting that you say that, you know, made

(19:56):
a statement in that nobody fears us in you more.
And I spoke to Reggie, Uh it's been probably six
eight months ago, because what would they say now? I
don't know what they say now. I mean, we'll let
me put this in plain English for you. There s
O f T they're soft, and they're soft and the

(20:16):
trenches they're soft at different positions on the defensive side
of the football. Yeah, they've got some great players, Bryce,
Shaun will Anderson Henry to Tea Jordan's Battle. They they've
got some They got some dudes out there. But I
still think as a team when you look at this identity,
they're soft. They're soft. They're not a physical you know,

(20:37):
Alabama used to be a team that would line up,
they would come to the line of scrimmage and say, listen,
we're gonna run it right here, and there's nothing you
can do about it. There's and George is that now,
George is that that's their mentality. Hey, They'll come to
a lot of scrimmage and say, hey, right here, we're
gonna do it right here. There's nothing you can do
about it. And that was kind of what Alabama did
that was kind of their m O and they kind

(20:58):
of got away to putting out a little bit. And
I don't know what that's the reason, but it's just
hard to gauge anything from ULM. It's just hard to
walk out saying, hey, this Alabama team rebounded after a
Texas disappointing, you know, victory on the road. Anytime he
went on the roads good. But it was a sloppy performance.
It was it was not good. And so then you

(21:18):
come back and you play U l M. It's just
hard to tell when you're forty nine and a half
point favorite against an inferior competition. Ryan, I have Georgia, Alabama,
Ohio State, USC, Michigan my one through five. I think
there's a big gap between Georgia Alabama. Who's your who's
your one through five? You know, I kind of like yours.

(21:41):
There's something about Lincoln Riley. We we've had a chance
to cover him in different media availabilities when when Alabama's
played Oklahoma, I like the guy. And I was talking
to Torres about this on my show Eldier this week.
I just think when when you look at a Jordan
Addison and you look at Caleb, will you him? It's
it's a winnable division. I think, what is their only

(22:03):
other ranked team that they're gonna be playing as Utah
And so to me, I like you usc out from
that side. It's kind of be to be determined, you know,
O how to say? It's easy that will be the
team uh from from the from the Big ten. But
you slip in Michigan. Uh. You know, Alabama should be
there at the end. And and what makes them there

(22:25):
at the end is price On. He covers up a
lot of things that we were just talking about. Yeah,
I think Alabama was one of the best four teams,
but he masked a lot of your problems. There's problems
on this team, but he makes it not seem like
big problems. That's how good he is. He guys, and
and I've watched some great players. He may be the

(22:45):
best I've ever seen in testicus. Very interesting couple of
real quick ones before we let you go. First of all,
your Texas A and m Aggie's up ten three on
Miami early, real quick like like in all seriousness, obviously
we know about the Saban Fisher, Like what do you
what do what do Alabama fans, just like, what do

(23:05):
you think of Texas A and M? Just just tell me.
When I say Texas A and M, which they're playing
right now, they're up ten three, what comes to mind
in your opinion? I think about an overrated football coach.
I think about a guy that I think it's a
lot more credit than that he really deserves. When I
look at Jimbo Fisher, I see that. I see a
guy that loves to talk. He talks a big game,

(23:27):
But I don't know if he's the guy long term.
When you look at Texas saying M, they are who
they are, right, I mean eight and four is something
that they've been forever. And if you start looking at
the numbers and I see the comparisons. Right when you
invest and you kept up five and fifty million dollars,
that was the initial investment, stadium renovation, new coach, Why

(23:50):
do they do that? To keep up with Alabama? That
was the goal, to keep up with Alabama. Well, at
some point you want to return on your investment. You
call your financial advisor. You said, hey, man, how's my
mutual phones going? How's it going? Not very good? At
some point, Texas st and fans want something, And I
think the COVID year of that they finished right there

(24:11):
at the fifth spot. But I think a lot of
people look at that year as just an outlier, right,
That's not something that It was just more how can
you manage COVID? How can you, you know, do what
you were able to do. So you look at Texas
sing m I don't think they're getting a return on
their investment. And and and I think tonight we'll see
if Miami is able to win this game. It would
be a huge victory for Texas, stating them because if

(24:34):
you look at their schedule, there's a lot of potential
losses remaining on that schedule, you know, last thing eight
and four maybe a dream last thing for me. Ryan,
I'm just kind of curious. Alabama, Let's face it, you
should have lost to Texas, okay, but but you get
to win. You're very lucky you get to win there.
Then Texas struggles against Texas San Antonio. Does that make

(24:54):
you look at the mirror, go win or what the
hell is going on here? We struggle against the team
that may lose the thanks said, oh man, that's that.
I didn't even realize that score. I've been writing a
writting a story for our website ted dot com. But
I did not realize that that has that went final
or Texas uh late in the third or halfway through

(25:19):
the third. Well and and now now, so I talked
about the rat poison. He said one of the big
things for his team is having to avoid the reverse
rat poison right to be able to to all the
praise that that his team is going to get. Listen,
I would be a fool to tell you that this
Alabama team is as dominant as Alabama teams that I've

(25:39):
seen in the past. And I'm I was wrong. I
thought the offensive line would be much better. It's not.
There's still some problems in that offensive line. And I
think that the problems are evident. I mean, you're in
your third game and there's still rotating guys to find
the best five in there. I mean, we you know,
we we saw Tyler Booker to day play left guard
quite a is and and and up until this point

(26:02):
he had never played in the games as far as
meaningful snaps. So they're still trying to Listen, Alabama is
not the team that they be. I'm not saying that
they won't be at the end of the season. But
right now this team is not as domina maybe as
I expected them coming into the season. Last one, right,
we got a minute left, um, Alburn, Let's go back

(26:22):
full circle, Alburn. They lucidated Penn State. If I told
you week one running out of the tunnel. Next year,
Dion Sanders is their head coach. Are you concerned as
an Alabama fan? No? No, I mean, I don't mean
if you're next year, but in general, in general, but
they could put Urban Meyer down. It's a culture, y'all.

(26:42):
Don't realize that living in this state. Sure they it's
it's an Auburn acronym. It's Alburn doing Auburn type things.
They would be better just to look at their resume
and say, listen. And Charles Bark who said this on
my show about five years ago. He said, we need
to realize that we'll never be Alabama and let's just
be Alburt. He never just understand through role in life.

(27:04):
You know what some people should live in, you know,
five million dollar houses, and some people should live in
two hundred fifty thousand houses. I'm the two hundred fifty
thousand house. I know my role in life. I'm not
saying I don't belong in a fove million dollar house.
Alburn tries to live in a fox million dollar house
on a minimal way salary. That about says it all

(27:24):
hanging out with the wrong people. If you don't say Arnie,
Arnie lives in an igloo in Vermont. So if that
makes you feel anybody right, appreciate you guys always. I
was a GHO say thanks man. I enjoyed you guys
are all always all the fun and I hope you
guys have a great remaining part of you're not well, Ryan,
Ryan is the best. Ryan Fowler tied one hundred point
nine two to six pm Monday through Friday Central Time.

(27:47):
Also follow him on Twitter at Ryan see Fowler. Ryan,
we know you got work to do, man. We appreciate
the time. Todd, Thanks, Thanks buddy. That was Ryan Fowler.
React to some of what he said, And I actually
have a question for Arnie about one of the things
that he said. We'll get to that next first time tonight.
You know he didn't get the night off, Steve. If
I have to work, he's gotta work. Actually, the two

(28:09):
of us are the ones who like being here on Saturday.
Next usually he's the one that quit. I thought you
were the one that we're taking every Saturday night off.
I am, I was busy, but I got called in,
so I said, if I gotta if I gotta work,
you gotta bring it to SAG So that now we
find out why the rest of us didn't know in
advance that it was you coming in, and maybe people
would have changed their plans. We did have number ten

(28:30):
Arkansas winning tonight thanks to three touchdowns in the fourth
quarter against Missouri State thirty eight to twenty seven. Eighth
ranked Oklahoma State has pounded Arkansas Pine Bluff sixty three
to seven, one of many blowouts in the top ten Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Kentucky,
all with blowout victories coming up in a few minutes
on Fox TV. The late game with number seven USC

(28:52):
hosting Fresno State, San Diego State scoreless at number fourteen
Utah first quarter, late second quarter at Texas A and
m Aggie's ten re over Miami and U t s
A on the board, extra point tie at late third
quarter against number twenty one Texas. For the moment, twenty
three Longhorns Number five Clemson is pulling away three touchdowns

(29:13):
in the third quarter. They're up on Louisiana Tech thirty
four six. Now late in the third, eight minutes left
in the game. Number twenty three pit has scored to
go up twenty seven thirteen. At Western Michigan, Florida Gators
have taken the lead. Number eighteen Florida thirty one twenty
eight over South Florida with five minutes to go, ten
minutes left. At Washington domination by the Huskies tonight against

(29:35):
number eleven Michigan State Washington thirty six fourteen in the
lead again, about ten minutes to go, just to pick two.
They just picked it deep in Michigan State Terry. Yeah,
the quarterback was thrown from the back of the end zone.
Number sixteen n C So what another ten year contract
for Tucker? I guess yeah. Yeah, Number sixteen ends because

(29:55):
our Arizona hasn't started. Why has anybody? Number sixteen NC
State is leading with a minute ago fourteen against Texas Tech.
Number fifteen Tennessee sixty three to six over Akron in
the final minutes. And you know, number three Ohio State
seems like they pulled the quarterback a while ago, and
they keep scoring seventy seven to twenty one over Toledo.

(30:17):
That's going final. And by the way, that starting quarterback
c J. Stroud five touchdown passes. He was twenty two
of twenty seven for three hundred sixty seven yards. My goodness.
By the way, North Dakota State is ranked number one
in FCS. South Dakota State is number two in the pole.
I see it. So we could say we beat a
number one team. How about that? You are correct because

(30:38):
the Arizona Wildcats are hosting North Dakota States at the
top of the hour on f S one. Earlier, Oregon
beat up b y U forty one to twenty Number
nineteen Wake Forest edge Liberty thirty seven thirty six, stopping
at two point play late in the game. Number twenty
two Penn States win at Auburn was forty one to twelve.

(31:00):
U c l A needed a last second field goal
to beat South Alabama at the Rose Bowl thirty two
thirty one. CAL was winning at Notre Dame. The Irish
got ten points in the fourth quarter to take seventeen.
CAL almost pulled off an amazing hail Mary at the end.
U c l A, by the way, is at oh
and three. Colorado. Next, the Bruins are three, and oh
they haven't played literally haven't played anybody at this point,

(31:23):
and they get to play windless Colorado. Next. Colorado lost
today forty nine to seven at Minnesota. And also I
was in a lightning delay. Now the news is that
I was actually scored seventeen points tonight, so there's that.
It's early third quarter, Iowa seventeen nothing over Nevada, and
the Arizona game on FS one is after after the

(31:45):
SMU at Maryland game finishes, that is early in the
fourth quarter and tied at twenty seven. L s U
did win tonight, getting three touchdowns fourth quarter to beat
Mississippi State thirty one sixteen. We have an injury note
from Major League Baseball second basement of the Braves. Ozzy
Albie's left with a broken finger sliding into second. He
just returned last night from a broken foot where he

(32:08):
was out three months. Atlanta is chasing the Mets in
the NL East. The Mets have won five to one
over Pittsburgh. Braves are holding onto a four three lead
over Philadelphia with two outs in the ninth Going into tonight,
Mets with a one game lead over the Braves in
the division. Milwaukee beat the Yankees four to one, and
Cameron Smith leads to live golf event in Chicago by

(32:28):
two strokes. Back to you, thanks Steve Disager, Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports Saturday. Busy Saturday Night. As Disager just told you,
you know, Ryan Fowler brought up something really interesting, Arnie,
I want to discuss that with you. Next is what
we'll do, what we'll come back. We'll discuss a very
interesting team that is about to kick off and what
their potential is this season. Aaron Torres, Arnie Spaniard in

(32:50):
for Jason Martin. This is Fox Sports Tradio. Welcome back everybody,
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday. Aaron Torres, Arnie Spaniard
in for Jason Martin. Couple score updates here, number eighteen.
Florida looks like they may hold on. No, No, what
are you talking about. I'm watching the game right now.
I mean, did something happen there? For South Florida has

(33:11):
the bathers in the game. Yeah, I'm a few seconds behind,
and Florida's got the ball driving and they'll have it
first in ten at about the thirty yard line roughly
of Florida. Of Florida. So not by we're not watching Arizona.
What's wrong with you? Or doesn't It'll start to the
top of the hour, and I thought you'd be watching
pregame or something like that. Washington up thirty nine fourteen

(33:36):
on Michigan State, number eleven. Michigan State was wildly overrated,
hay to Bragg Garnian, this is my best bet. Washington
was three and a half. No big deal. Uh. USC
has just kicked off, Arnie, And so I wanted to
ask you about USC because you asked Ryan about you know,
you gave your top five. I can't remember who it was.
I know Arizona was at Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, USC four,
Michigan number five, Okay, not terrible. UM, so I gonna

(34:00):
ask you about USC. So they just kicked off. They're
playing Fresno at home. UM, and obviously they're two and
oh they put up forty one points last week against
against Stanford, one of the top offenses in college football.
Do you believe, I mean, it's okay to have them
rank number two, three, four, whatever at this time right now?
Do you believe though, that they are a team that's
good enough to actually make a playoff when it's all

(34:22):
said in um, oh yeah. I mean, first of all,
look at the conference they play, and why wouldn't I mean,
it's not like they're gonna have a tough time like
you do if you play in the SEC or you
play in the Big Ten or something like that. So
they're obviously going to have a much easier road. Doesn't
seem like U c. A Is going to be a
buch of a problem. So absolutely, they probably have an
easier road than the other four teams that I mentioned.

(34:44):
A matter of fact, if you know, I know, George's
number one based on what they've done so far, But
if you want to do like a real true who
do you think one through five? Yeah, Georgia's number one,
But I'm not so sure I'd even put Alabama's the
second best team in the country. I may put Ohio
State or a USC at number two, um, and maybe
drop Alabama to three or four, depending on who I

(35:06):
wanted to move up. I'm not so sure they're, you know,
right up there like they've been every year. Really quick,
we'll get back to the US in a minute. Where
do you where do Chris playings? Oklahoma? Sooner stand after today.
I mean, yeah, it was a good victory. I think
there's a little I mean doin them road right. I
I still think they're behind Michigan. I still think i'd
i'd want to go to Michigan, but more impressive than

(35:26):
anything Michigan's done. I would argue, I agree with you there,
but I still think they're behind Michigan. Um, you know,
because the show is tonight, but overall, they'd probably at
number six, number six, Okay, yeah, no, I I would
argue they've what they've done is more impressive than anything
that Michigan's done. I would argue to more Presidan anything
of how states don't that's true, But I said that's
why I said true. Um on how you feel, not

(35:48):
based on what they've done so far? Very good? So
U s C. So you like them. I'm a little
I'm a little more bullish, a little less bullish, Arnie.
I think they're going to tell Colin on you but going.
I don't know how much College cares about by USC opinion.
I mean, I think he's probably at the game right now.
Whatever as USC big run by Travis Dye here, the

(36:09):
game just started, uh thirteen minutes left in the first quarter.
My only I guess what I would say is I
do think as good as the offense is, that defense
it got gash last week. I mean, you know, last
week they gave up four forty one yards total offense,
five yards per carry and really took advantage of four
Stanford turnovers. Now, part of that credit goes to the

(36:30):
offense for for the defense excuse me for for usc
for forcing those turnovers, but they also did give up
a lot of yardage when Stanford wasn't coughing up the ball.
So I think they're gonna be really fun. I think
they're gonna be a fun watch. I'm so glad being
in this time slot every Saturday RNY that that they're
going to be relevant, that they're probably gonna be on
a ton during this time slot. You know, you and

(36:53):
I have done this show for years where it's tough.
I mean, Jason Martin and I were on last year
basically the night that that Clay Helton got fired and Stanford,
so it's gonna be fun to have them on. I
guess just what I would say is when the defense
is that bad, it makes you susceptible to two weird losses.
Uh at Oregon State next week. I don't think it's
gonna be easy. Oregon State right now is three and

(37:14):
o two, and oh excuse me, at Utah later in
the years, obviously the big one. I don't I'll tell you,
I don't think U c l A is a push
over right now. They looked really bad today, but there,
you know, I think everyone realizes how good USC's offense
has been coming into today. U c l A was
scoring more and putting up more total offense than than
USC was. So I just bring up and say, I

(37:34):
think U c l A is gonna be good. I
like USC. I think they're really fun. I'm not sold
that they're just gonna steamroll through the rest of the package. Well,
they're gonna be favorite in every game they play, even
the game at YouTube. Yeah, I would like to make
av it's not even Yeah, that's the only game that
they could not be favorite in. But otherwise they'll be
favorite body and the game. You know, they'll probably be
favorite boy at least a touchdown in most games other

(37:56):
than the Utah game, and that's including the Notre Dame
game there at the end. So yeah, I think it's
gonna be a pretty easy road for USC. Let's remember now,
even with one loss to Utah, that Utah game is
you know, early October, you could overcome that and still
you know, win the last like five games and win
the conference and all that and still go to the

(38:17):
to the playoffs. So yeah, I we'll see with you
as Zeford is a good team, don't not quite. There's
some slops there three nine last year. What's upping? So
some people thought that Ziffer was actually gonna win that game.
Who thought Stanford is gonna win that game? I did?
Oh what some people? What about? What about when they
go to Arizona. They're not gonna They're not gonna win
that one. Yeah, al, they'll lose to Arizona. Come on,

(38:39):
that's what I mean. So you know they might lose
to Utah, then they gotta go to Arizona the next game.
I mean, you talk about a gauntlet in back to
back weeks. My goodness. By once they get they get
a bye week after the Utube, they're gonna they're gonna
need it for two weeks to get ready for Arizona,
which is getting ready to kick off here at the
top of the hour, waiting on us South Florida. Is

(39:01):
it is third down, As you said, they're deep in
Florida territory in field goal range. Thirty four seconds left.
Its third and twenty. Trying to get a spot on
where the field goal would be from. Uh yeah, they're
at in the thirty two yard line, so to be
about what a forty nine yard or something, Yeah, something
like that. So it is third and twenty. I think
at this point, Arnie, I'm not great. You know, I

(39:21):
don't claim to be Nathaniel Hackett offensive genius here. I
do think you gotta I think you gotta get a
couple of yards here, trying to make it a more
makeable play. Uh, make more makeable kick. They run the
ball right up the middle of Not very smart. They're
so busy night in college football, USC has just kicked
off Washington, by the way, for the Pack twelve needing
signature wins. I think there's a possibility of Michigan State

(39:42):
is just overrated, but Washington just destroying Michigan State thirty
nine to twenty with six minutes left in this game. Arnie,
really quickly, I think this is a really good thing
for the Pack twelve. By the way, Oregon bouncing back
nicely with a win over by U today. Yeah, Oregon
had had a good victory. I thought b y U
was gonna be one of those teams that maybe pulled
off the upset. They're a really good team, and uh,

(40:04):
they got man handled early. That game was even as
close as the final score indicated. So I gotta give
Oregon a lot of a lot of you know, I
was gonna say Jeff Schwartz should have been punished for
playing in Oregon after what happened against Georgia. So he's
off the hook. Now that was a good win. Oregon
gets to win, Washington gets to win. Uh, and USC
has just kicked off, so we'll see how USC does
throughout the night. Of course, Arizona Arnie's Arizona Wildcats are

(40:28):
kicking off here soon. Fox Sports Radio eron towards Jason
Jason Martin out Arnie Spanier in South Florida lining up
for a field goal forty eight yard attempt. That is
no good. Oh my goodness, So number eighteen Florida will survive.
We will be back to talk about that and the
rest of college football. Arnie Spanier eron towards Fox stre

A and M Miami has just started. Texas A and
M up ten to three, Washington putting the finishing touches
on Michigan State and usc RNI fight on to victory
seven nothing on fres No. Caleb Williams to Jordan Addison.
Let me ask you, we talked to USC last segment

(41:35):
um independent of where they could go. Are you surprised
at how quick it appears to all have clicked. We
we knew Lincoln Riley was a great coach. Once he
brought Caleb Williams, we knew they'd be good. But they are.
I mean, it's like Oklahoma West, like they like they
just literally picked up from Oklahoma went West and the
offense has not missed to beat. I'll say this, I'm
I'm I'm a little surprised at how effective they've been

(41:57):
so early. Oh maybe ten years ago I would have
been surpried. But now, as you mentioned TP, Transfer portal TP,
you get healthy. Yeah, you can get healthy. You can
get healthy really quick. It makes a difference. Now you
don't have to go you know, look at high school kids,
UM have to wait for them to develop. You can
now get a kid that played in a major program

(42:19):
for what one two years, maybe didn't even play at all,
and has been healthy and just has been a scratch
for whatever reason, and then come right into your program.
So the transfer portal makes all the difference in the world.
Right now, let me ask you, I ask Jason Martin this.
It's it's a hypothetical that will never know the answer
to UM. But I remember there was a lot of
talk when Lincoln Riley took the USC job of you know,

(42:40):
if Oklahoma hadn't left for the SEC, he would stay
at Oklahoma if if the transfer portal did not exist,
if every transfer had to sit out a year, do
you think he would have taken the USC job. I
still think he would have. Really, I still I think
he wanted to change. I think he wanted to move on.
I don't think why you think it was strictly because

(43:02):
of the transfer portal and get healthy, But you know
everybody had such a big ego there aaron that transfer
porter or no transfer portal, you still think you could
rebuild a program. I think if he can't bring Caleb
Williams and he can't bring Jordan, I mean obviously he
didn't know Jordan Addison, but I mean he knew he
was bringing Cale. Yeah, but you you can't he wasn't
taking a job just strictly based on whether you can

(43:23):
take Caleb Williams or not. I mean, if you can't
bring one of the two or three best quarterbacks with you,
you're gonna for the wrong reason, You're gonna You're gonna
leave one of the two or three best quarterbacks that
you recruited for years behind and just completely start over
somewhere else. You're you're not leaving, uh, you know you're
not leaving a job like that based on one quarterback,
whether he's gonna go with you or not. There's a

(43:44):
many factors, and you know, a long time to you know,
go over it with your family and stuff like that.
I don't think that even that's probably not even on
the top long time to go over it. I mean,
he coached the game on a Saturday night. He took
the job Sunday morning. But I thought he gave it
a lot of thought, though it wasn't like, Hey, you
know what, live if Caleb is gonna come with me,
then I'm going If he doesn't come with me, then
I'm gonna stay. No, I don't even think it was

(44:05):
in the top five or ten reasons. To be honest
with you, you don't think it was in the top
five or ten reasons that he took the job as
if Caleb Williams could come with him. That's an interesting
take that I definitely do not agree with. So let's
keep it going. No, I think he's gonna I think
some of the reasons were were that, give me it's easier,
are easier to rebuild at USC, easier to win a
championship at US, But rebuild he it was already built

(44:28):
at Oklahoma. At worst, you are going to be the
best team in the Big twelve and one of the
two or three best teams. Not right, But but I'm
just saying he's thinking I could probably win a lot
more in the Pack twelve UM, I'd rather live in
Los Angeles and Oklahoma. Uh, you know, in Hollywood and
all that. Um, you know, maybe I get more job

(44:51):
security that that. They were going to fire him at
Oklahoma anyway. Uh, you know, my family wants to live
on the West Coast. I mean all that stuff would
be probably coming before or anything before and Caleb Williams
or any of that. You know. Nick Saban was on
Colin Cowhart Show probably about two weeks ago, three weeks ago,
right before the start of season. Colin asked him. He said, coach,

(45:11):
you're seventy one years old. Why do you still have
the passion that you do for recruiting? And Nick Saban said,
it's because I learned a long time ago. I can't
teach bad players to play good. I can't coach that up.
I can't coach bad players to play good. I don't
think that. I don't. I don't think he takes the
job if there is no transfer portal. I don't think
he takes the job. If he can't, why do you

(45:31):
I don't understand. You know, it's an interesting conversation because
I don't understand why would you spend three years recruiting
Caleb Williams get him to campus win ten games with
them as a freshman. It's an interesting conversation. It's not
like you're at Bowling Green and you happen to have
an elite quarterback like you You're at Oaklare freaking Homa.
You're winning ten eleven games every year. You're winning the
Big twelve every year except last year. I think it's

(45:53):
a huge part of why he took the job. Now,
I think I think all of that stuff that you
said it is true their reasons to take the job.
I don't think they're good enough reasons without the transfer portal.
If you can't flip the roster that that's my thought
on that. Well, again, the transfer portal makes all the
difference in the world. But if we're all playing back
in the old rules, you're not even thinking about the
transfer portal, and um, you're just thinking that everything is normal.

(46:17):
It's gonna take you a year to get people to
to come over, and you're thinking, I'm gonna go ahead
and recruit all that California and they're all gonna want
to come to USC. I have all those quarterbacks that
come out of the Valley. Um. No, I think he
thinks he could rebuild it even with the high school seniors.
We will have to agree to disagree. Let's keep it going.
A couple of things, you know, Arnie, I want to
ask you Big Ten Ohio State. We just mentioned they

(46:40):
put up seventy seven points today. Michigan has put up
fifty plus in all three Penn State wins at Auburn
in dominant fashion today. I think you can make a case.
I'm not saying it's better than the SEC. I do
think those top three in the Big Ten look pretty
freaking good, Aren'tie? Do you I look at the Big Ten,

(47:02):
I think that conversation is very interesting at the top.
I know you like Ohio State is the best team.
I'm definitely not sold despite seventy seven points tonight. I
think those top three are really interesting. The top league, well,
I mean, in my top five, I have two teams
from the Big Ten with Ohio State in Michigan and
two teams from the SEC with Georma, Georgia and Alabama.
So you know where Penn State fits in there. I

(47:23):
guess we'll find out sooner than later. But um, yeah,
I mean right now, top heavy, Um, maybe one through three.
You're right about that if you go a little bit stronger,
a little bit further down, then we know the SEC
is a lot better one through UH ten and stuff
like that really quick. You you know, so your top
five is based solely on where you think things will
end up? Is that my understanding? Not what they've done

(47:45):
so far? Is that fair? Again, it's what they I
mix it up. I gave you two. But if if
we're gonna just say what they've done so far, I
still would go to Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, USC in
Michigan has two road to road who Penn State. Ohio
State hasn't left Columbus yet. Penn State, I know, but
they just look so dominant though, you know, with all

(48:06):
the points. But they played Patsy's and see, that's why
I'm saying, if I if I want to do my
pure who I think is one through five? Those are
gonna be my one through five based on forget about
who they played or anything like that. That's who I
think the five best teams in the country are right now.
One team he did not mention, you said, Oklahoma's number six.
Clemson up thirty four to thirteen in the fourth quarter.

(48:28):
They're they're starting quarterback DJ very maligned, but sixteen of
twenty eight passing two hundred two yards, seven yards per completion,
one touchdown. What are your thoughts on Clemson? Do you believe? Like,
are you one of those they absolutely have to make
the quarterback change? I mean he struggled last year, the
team won because of the defense. He struggled against Georgia
Tech to start the year. Where you at on Clemson,

(48:50):
which is not in your top six, Well, they're not
gonna make a quarterback change right now as long as
they win, and they win decisively. But what happens when
they start playing better talent um? What's he going to do?
The two and two yards not quite good enough against
the team like Louisiana Tech. I'm starting to think that
maybe he's a tad bit overrated coming on and he's
he's got a long way to go to catch up
to some of the other guys out there. Complete. His

(49:13):
numbers are much improved last year, completed of his passes,
six yards per completion, nine t ds uh he already
has so far this season. First of all, he's completing
sixty eight percent of his passes UH and has four
touchdowns already so taking a step in the right direction.
So Clemson is on the outside to you right now,
although it's early. Um, yeah, we definitely outside. I mean

(49:35):
I wouldn't. I'm not having even my top five. Is
that what you're thinking. No, maybe they're behind Penn State
and and some other teams, So no, I don't have
him that high really quickly. Texas A and M. They
are up ten to three on Miami as we speak
right now. What's your thought on Texas A and M.
Rty You were on air with VJ last week when
they lost to app State. They make the quarterback change
this week, Uh, moving the ball looking better. Uh, they

(49:58):
are inside deep in Miami territory looking to go up
thirteen seventeen to three. And uh, you know he talked
about a must win game for for the Texas A
and M. You talk about the team that was was
probably the most overrated team in college football as we
learned after that loss and now looked they struggled against
Miami even with the quarterback change. And I know Miami
is a good team, and I know that this game
was gonna be tough, but uh, they're playing at home.

(50:21):
The offense is still sputtering this is gonna be a
problem all year long. It's it's not like they're gonna
put up thirty plus points on any given week and
they're just having problems right now. They're they're not a
good offensive team. And we've totally overrated this Texas A
at M team. You don't think they can get better
throughout the year. I mean they started, they can get better,
but I mean they're they're they're not gonna get worse.
They're Their offense right now is about it was as

(50:42):
bad as I I've seen it in a long time. Well,
they had fourteen last night. They just scored on a
Devin h Chain touchdown catch to go up seventeen to
three on Miami. So maybe the offense is coming around.
They made the quarterback change. Uh and uh they it
appears as though they're moving the ball or any they're
moving the ball. Johnson's eight to seventeen for thirteen yards.

(51:03):
So I'm not ready to say they're they're you know,
ready to go ahead and call them an offensive juggernaut
with those type of numbers. Very good. Uh, Texas A
and M does have the lead. You know, you talk
about a game, aren'ty by the way, not to to
go back to Texas A and M for half a second,
as it looks like Clemson may have so No, it
looks like it was the other direction. Um. No, you
you talked about a team, Arenie. Um, what's interesting about

(51:26):
the A and M stuff. It's not just it's not
just that they that they lost last week. It was
how they looked. Um And it was really not just
even how they looked. It's the schedule that's ahead. I
think that's why the A and M conversation is so interesting.
You spend all the money on the head coach, do
you have the n I L rumors? You have everything
going on in that program. You put up fourteen points
last week. And here's the crazy part. Any even if

(51:48):
they survived today at Mississippi State or against Arkansas next week,
is gonna be a ranked opponent at Mississippi State they
lost to last year at Alabama. And oh, by the way,
old miss looks good. Uh l SU looked much better tonight.
Uh So, tough road ahead for Texas A and M.
If even if they even if they hold on tonight,
extremely tough road. That's why it's gonna be You're gonna

(52:08):
be hearing a lot of a lot of stuff about
this team because as you mentioned, as you went down
the schedule, they probably they're not going to be in Arkansas,
They're not gonna be Mississippi State, or they're not gonna
be in the Alabama either. South Carolina is gonna be
a good game. Other than that, there I can see
a whole bunch of els until they get to you mask.
So it's not gonna be a great year for A

(52:30):
and M. It's gonna be a long one. And the
faithful not gonna like that because they had the number
one recruiting class. I wonder how that's gonna, you know,
affect things. If they have such a bad year this
year for anybody will decommit this. This is Fox Sports

game that's gone just about final. Washington is taking a
knee against number eleven Michigan State final score will be

(53:34):
thirty eight barring something shocking. I'll just say this in general, Arnie,
I think it's a big day for the Pack twelve
and and you know what, it's specifically a big day
for these teams that are going to stay in the conference. USC,
by the way, is now up fourteen nothing. But you know,
you talk about a situation where Oregon, Washington, Utah which

(53:55):
is playing right now, these are the programs they're gonna
have to carry this conference in the new era. Bull
nice wins for Oregon in Washington, and I think Utah
set up pretty nicely here going forward. Yeah, I mean,
as you mentioned, USC now about to go a fourteen
nothing lead. Utah still struggling though against the San Diego
State team and still steven nothing but uh, and they're
right the number four. Some people still think they have

(54:16):
a chance. But you're right, at least the Pac twel
has some good showings today and uh, you know, even Oregon,
you know, they bounced back, so uh, it was some
good wins. And I was surprised Washington dominated Michigan State
the way they did. I thought that was gonna be
a lot closer game than it was. Let me ask
you a question. You are obviously a fan of a
current Pack twelve school, and we don't know the future

(54:36):
of the conference. But I do think with the expanded playoff, um,
and with you know, we'll figure out what all the
TV stuff looks like in a couple you know, these
next couple of weeks, but our next couple of months,
whenever it all gets figured out. Um, but what what
do you make of the present and future of the
Pack twelve? Because I think, on the one hand, you
could say, oh, you know, it's so concerning. What about

(54:57):
the future without USC without U c l A. Now,
aren't we got this twelve team playoff six automatic bids?
As an Arizona fan, I'm guessing you have to feel
better about the future of the PAC twelve and schools
like Arizona, like Washington, like Oregon, etcetera. UM, I would
have to assume you feel a lot better than you
did maybe one or two months ago when the U
s C U c l A news bro No. But

(55:17):
then every every week something comes out like, Okay, the
Big ten's looking at Washington, They're looking at Oregon. Um,
you know, the Big twelve is gonna go ahead and
steal a few teams, and Arizona and Arizona State's gonna
go and what about Colorado and Utah. So there's always
rumors every week or so it seems like that is
gonna destroy the Pack twelve. And then you hear that

(55:38):
they're not gonna go after any teams. Look if if
they could just stay either way they are right now,
I guess I'm fine with it. I'm still upset losing
USC and U c l A. It's gonna downgrade as
big time. I'm wondering how much interest is gonna be
lost in the conference once USC and U c l
A leave. Uh. You know, then all of a sudden,
it's like the Power four and a half or something

(55:59):
like that, because, uh, you know. Let me ask you,
though I understand there's gonna be a financial disparity between
the Big ten, the SEC, and everybody else, but is
it really going to be like I think it's now
getting overblown. I think in the world where we thought
we didn't know what the future of the playoff was
gonna be, was it just gonna be all you know,

(56:20):
at large bids and the SEC gets five and the
Big ten gets five and everybody is else is left
for for whatever? Can we really say that it is
a Big two and everybody else? Because I think now
with the playoff the way that it is going to
be structured, where again we're gonna have six automatic bids,
I don't know that it's going to be a power too.
And I do think no, now listen, do I think, uh,
you know Washington State or a Vanderbilt is No, I don't.

(56:43):
But I do think that if you're in Oregon, if
you're a Washington, if you're a Utah, if you're in
Oklahoma State in the Big ten, a Big twelve, if
you're a Florida State, Miami in the a SEC, I
do think you're in much better shape than you were
a month or two ago. Aren't because it's easier than you.
Ask me why Lyncoln Riley would ever want to go
ahead and leave Oklahoma, UH for something like USC And
I said, well, perhaps, UM, you know, it's gonna be

(57:05):
easier for him to win. You know what I mean,
They doesn't have to go ahead and go through the
vigors of of the SEC and he's got the pack twelve.
And that's why I said that has nothing to do
with a quarterback, UM coming on over, you know what
I mean. You just want to go ahead and um,
you know, win for crying out loud. So we'll see
what they do when they get to the big ten.
He wasn't prepared for that. Um, But you're right on

(57:25):
the other stuff. I I think it's an easier run
for some of the schools that you mentioned, Um, because
it's an easier conference. There's no doubt about that. Yeah,
I think you know I I just think I'll tell
you this, Arni. We haven't been on air since that
twelve team play since it became a twelve team playoff.
You know where I've stood for years on bowl games
and everything. I don't hate bowl games as much as

(57:46):
everybody else, but when I actually saw the playoff structure
the way that it was gonna be. I do think
it's the best thing for college football a couple of reasons. Why.
Because one, I do think it slows down that that
need to get into the SEC or Big Ten. Now,
if the Big Ten offers Oregon in Washington tomorrow, they're
gonna take it. But I do think it slows down
the need to get into those conferences. Um. And I

(58:09):
also think it's it's good for the little guy. I
think it's good for the group of five schools. I
think it's good for the schools that in the Sun Belt,
the app States, the the you know whoever, Georgia, Southern
whatever teams are gonna be good in the future. So
I know we haven't spoken um since that twelve team playoff,
but I think it makes me feel better about the
future of college sports than I did maybe a month

(58:30):
six weeks ago, where I really thought it was gonna
be the SEC was gonna get twenty to twenty four teams,
the Big Ten was gonna get twenty to twenty four teams,
and everybody else was gonna get left out. Well, I
don't know about the future. I mean, I like the
way the future is for the playoffs system. I'm still
not sure how the n I L was going to
play out I and the transfer portal, how much of
a difference it's going to make. I there's no going backwards,

(58:52):
so it really doesn't make much of a difference anyway.
But um I, I certainly think we're in the right direction.
We'll see how those things work out. But I love
the twelve team play off. The more the merrier, you
know that. I always thought that for it was way
too little. So um I'm I'm okay with twelve, and
I'd even like to get into the sixteen. By the way,
we have an updated I don't mean to steal the same. Yeah,

(59:13):
how about those you know, the North Dakota State bis
and haven't seen anything like these Arizona Wadcats. Let me
ask you really quick, we don't lose the teams like
I told you, like dorth Dakota whoever, we don't lose its.
North Dakota State have some respect, multiple time national champions
at the FCS level. Really quickly, how how are you
feeling about your Arizona Wildcats. The Arizona Wildcats, of course,
dominated San Diego State in Game one Uh. San Diego

(59:37):
State had twelve wins last year, and now they're making
a nice little move. I'll say this. They played Mississippi
State in this time slot last week, and I thought
they held pretty strong for most of the game. Um,
how do you feel? How do you feel about your Wildcats?
It was a one possession game I think in the
fourth quarter than Mississippi State pulled away. Uh. Like, it's
certainly better than what was the previous where we lost

(59:58):
what twenties six games? Uh, in twenties seven, So this
is certainly a lot better. We're certainly more competitive. That's
why I said, you know, it's not that hard to
turn things around when you've got the transfer portal. Uh,
you don't have to be a big time name to
get kids to come to your school. There's plenty of
them out there. But I like, God, like, what's going
on right now? Certainly, Yeah, how could you not? Well?
I was gonna say they were one team. You know,

(01:00:19):
everybody talks about the USC S, the you know, the
l s US. In terms of transport, Arizona did a
really good job with the trans reporter. They got the
quarterback from Washington State, who who was the pack twelve
offensive Freshman of the Year last year. They got the kids. Yeah,
Jacob Cowing from from U tep who had three touchdowns
in that opening week. So Arizona looking good early. They're

(01:00:40):
up seven nothing. I'll tell you what. Uh, let's let's well,
you know what, we'll we'll get it over to Saga
really quick. We'll come back talk about some of the
rest of the games going on in college football, everything
else that you missed across college football today. But let's
get to Steve to Sega with what's trend. North Dakota
State with quarterbacks Trey Lance forty niners and Carson Wentz
and Sston Stick the charger backup in fact, third stringer

(01:01:02):
from North Dakota State, and yes they are ranked number
one in FCS as they battle the mighty Arizona wild
Because I like the sound effect for now the singer,
we'll see if we were using that sound effect about
three hours from now in the fourth thousand, most Saturday nights,
when we talk about Arizona football, it's pretty much not today,

(01:01:24):
not anymore so. The game's on FS one, Arizona seven nothing,
in the lead in the first quarter. And by the way,
you know who's ranked number four in FCS is Montana State,
and they played at Oregon State tonight. Montana State lost
to st. Yes. Oregon State, you know, barely beat this

(01:01:45):
Fresno team that's playing right now against US undefeated and yes,
a couple of touchdowns for the Trojans. This is on
Fox TV right now. Number seven USC leads fourteen nothing
over Fresno State end of the first quarter of play.
Before this, Number three Ohio State was a seventy seven
to twenty one winner against Aledo late in the second quarter.
Number fourteen Utah only leads seven nothing against San Diego State.

(01:02:08):
Late third quarter Texas A and m up on Miami
seventeen to six. At number twenty one Texas, the Longhorns
have scored three touchdowns in the second half. Now lead
ut San Antonio twenty mid fourth quarter and in the
final minutes. At number five Clemson, it's the Tigers forty
eight to twenty over Louisiana Tech. And guys, we have
a second lightning delay at Iowa. They are still in

(01:02:32):
the third quarter Iowa of seventeen nothing over nevent I'm
guessing by the end of this it'll just be friends
and family in attendance. There's only three ball games still going,
one of them in the top of the twelve inning
at Cleveland, and believe it or not, this is the
second of a doubleheader. It has been a long day
in Cleveland. The first place Guardians won the opener five

(01:02:53):
one against Minnesota. Guardians are tied five five against the Twins.
In the nightcap top of the twelve minute Soda even
did by scoring five runs in the top of the
eighth inning. Cleveland entered today first in the a L Central,
in fact, going into this game four and a half
games over the White Sox, who won an eleven inning.
Six games up on the Twins. We only have two

(01:03:14):
and a half weeks left in the regular season. Mets
and Braves, each one met still a game ahead of
Atlanta in the NL East. That's a little misleading. They're
tied in the lost columns, you know, you Mets fans,
in the lost column. That's all we hear from Jason
Smith Monday through Friday is the lost column. My goodness,
it's all gonna even out. You know, they usually play
the same number of games. But that's the real truth,

(01:03:37):
you know, that's the way you're really tough. Far you're
behind one game is what the Braves are behind. That's
truly what they're behind. The bad news for the Braves.
Second baseman Azzi Albis, who just returned from injury last night,
suffered a broken finger tonight. Braves beat writer says he's
out for the regular season. We'll see if he can
come back in the playoffs. This is the defending champion

(01:03:58):
Atlanta Braves we're talking about. St. Louis swept a doubleheader
from Cincinnati. Milwaukee beat the Yankees four to one. Yanks
with runners in scoring position oh for eight. NASCAR win
tonight at Bristol for Chris Busher. Cameron Smith leads the
live golf event by two strokes in Chicago. Colts wide
receiver Michael Pittman is out for tomorrow at Jacksonville with
a quad injury. And we do have boxing coming right

(01:04:20):
up in Las Vegas. Canelo Alvarez age thirty two against
Gannadi Golovkin age forty and Artie Mr. Mett. We do
have this note from Stats Inc. These statistics people on
the New York Mets this season. They now have six
different players who have been hit by pitch ten times
this year led by Mark Cannady. He's been hit twenty
one times. No team since nine d has had six

(01:04:45):
different players hit at least ten times. So you got
that going for you, even if you blow the NL
East and who's number one hit most times? Ever? Uh,
let's see we get Ron Hunt, Don Ba. I thought
it was I think Don Baylor who never got out
of the way eventually. Yeah, probably so thanks Steve Sager,

(01:05:08):
Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday, Aaron Torres, Arnie Spaniard,
Texas A and M seventeen two six going into the
fourth quarter there in Kyle Field, Arnie. You know, I
asked Ryan Fowler earlier in the show. We had Ryan
Fowler from Tide one point nine Tuscaloosa on an our one. Um,
just I said, look, just give me, you know, let's

(01:05:28):
play a little you know, word association game. When I say,
Jimbo Fisher, you say what and and he said a
lot of different things. He said, you know he's this,
he's that, he's whatever. You know, You're you're obviously impartial
college football fan. You love Arizona, but what happens in
the SEC has no bearing on, uh, you know, your
personal life. What do you make of Jimbo Fisher in Texas,

(01:05:51):
A and M. Because you know, I'll say this is
that I never really bought into the Jimbo's overrated Jimbo's
I mean, he won a national championship. So let's call
Spade of State here. There's only I think five guys
currently coaching college football has won a national championship. I
will say that lost last Saturday to app State kind
of made it hard for me to defend him. I mean,
when you're when you're a seventeen point home favorite, when

(01:06:13):
you put up a hundred eighties six yards of offense
against an app State team that gave up six hundred
yards the week before the U n C, that made
it really tough to defend. And I'll tell you, I
think they're probably gonna hold onto this. Miami win seventeen
and six as the score going in the fourth quarter,
I see a lot of losses left on the schedule.
What are you saying, though, But just because based on

(01:06:33):
that one game against app State? Who who's done that before?
I mean we've gone back to the Michigan game and
they've played some close games. Are you trying to say
that because of one game you've completely changed your mind
about Jimbo Fisher or what I would say. I think,
I think most of everything that's happened has been excusable
to this point. Right you go, So let's let me
real quick. You know, year ones, whatever, they go nine

(01:06:55):
and four, but it's your one. Year two, they go
eight and five, but it's a tough schedule in college football,
and they play l s U which wins the national championship,
Clemson which was the runner up, Alabama Georgia, which were
both top five teams. Year three, that's the year of COVID.
They go nine and one. Last year they take a
step back, but they're coming off a nine in one
season when they basically lost everybody. So to answer your question,

(01:07:15):
what I'm trying to say is, I think every time
there's been something bad that happens, it's kind of explainable.
It's early in your tenure, it's this, it's that, it's
you know, a rebuilding year. What I would say is
you're in year five, Jimbo Fisher. You're getting paid nine
and a half million dollars. I do think it changes
with one game. I do think you there is no
excuse for losing to app State I don't care what
their history is. You're paid nine and a half million dollars,

(01:07:37):
and as Ryan Fowler said, you're you're paid nine and
a half million dollars because we believe you're the guy
that's eventually gonna get us past Nick Saban permanently. I
can't be havingy lose to app State in a year five. Arnie. Well,
they remember now they have the number one recruiting class
coming in. So I think that as uh, that says something.
I think that's why fans are gonna be a little
bit more patient. Um, did you really think you were

(01:07:59):
gonna go ahead and compete for a national championship? You
know right off the bat with Jimbo Fezer were not
off the bat. I mean, it's been what the year
number five, But there's been some tough years in there.
We've gone through the COVID years, and I mean some
coaches do get a buy with that, do get a
pass with that. Granted they were nine on one and
a couple of years ago, but eight and four. I mean,

(01:08:20):
that's not the worst thing in the world. That's the
Nebraska fans. The question is what are they gonna do
after this year when they only have like about four wins. Um,
you know, the fans gonna be okay with them as
they have the number one recruiting class coming in like
Texas A and m is gonna have four wins this year. Yeah,
that's what's gonna happen this year. I'll take the over
on that. You wanna make a bet, Let's make a bet. Now,

(01:08:40):
what is it? What are they have it? In Vegas?
I mean they're they're over undercoming into the year was
nine and a half. Yeah, I think it's gonna be
Like I said, I think it's gonna be a horrible
uh year for them, And I think we were overrated
a matter of fact, um on their schedule, Uh, the
Arkansas game, in the Mississippi S game, the Alabama game,
I think they lose all three of those games. They
don't want a game until South Carolina and then I

(01:09:01):
still think they lose to Mississippi and Ford in Auburn.
So though you know those are not great teams. The
way Ford to look to the certainly with the Auburn
looked against Penn State, they'll beat you mass So I'll
give them an obviously easy whin they're and then they
have l shoe. Now, I don't think they're gonna win
more than another four more games when it's all said, Um,
you think they're gonna be a four win team? Five?

(01:09:21):
Is they already beat Sam Houston? So I should say five?
Say they they're gonna have to probably after tonight what
I would say. I think they'll be probably closer to
seven and five. But I think it sets up for
next year, like you're just there's no excuses, like you know,
like you said that whole freshman class, it's gonna be
year two. Uh. And by the way, I think the
thing that people don't understand, and this was part of

(01:09:42):
why I I never really bought into the whole like
there's crazy n I L nonsense going on. They've had
top five, they've had top ten classes the last three years.
So that's the thing is like this is one of
the on paper if you just go by recruiting rankings,
and the recruiting rankings are usually pretty accurate. Um, it's
one the probably four to five most talented rosters in

(01:10:03):
college football. And so that that's where I think a
lot of the frustration comes in. That's where a lot
of the frustration comes in. And I think I do understand,
you know why I do go where you say something,
you go ahead? No, no, Well just when you said that,
you know, made me think. And everybody talks about and
A certainly Nick Saban made reference to it a while
ago about how they pay for their players. You know,

(01:10:24):
what makes Texas A and M and they're alumni so
great that they become like they're going to get the
number one recruiting class based on all these N I
L promises? What is it about Texas A and M
that they could go ahead and out put all these
other UH teams? I'm not sure. Well, and that's why
I don't. I don't really, I don't buy the n
I L. The n I L is it was a

(01:10:46):
message board rumor that no one has ever confirmed. As
North Dakota State has tied things up against Arizona. We'll
get back to that one later. Uh. The N I
L stuff, it was all message boards stuff, and I
think you know, to me, the whole N I L
conversation was completely overblown. Most of their recruits were from Texas, UM,
you know, keep in mind they had a couple of

(01:11:06):
guys from Louisiana. Louisiana, of course, LSU had a coaching
change last year. Uh Miami had a coaching change, Florida
had a coaching change. I mean there were you know,
by the way they were coming off a nine in
one season when most of those kids committed and signed
two years ago. So I never bought the N I
L stuff. Um, But I don't know. I don't buy.
So so you're saying you you a thousand percent believe

(01:11:26):
that this is the only reason that they got that
recruiting class. And I think that's something of it unless
people all of a sudden want to start going to
play for the Aggies and played for Texas A and
Ember played for Jimbo. I I think it had a
big thing to do with it. Maybe you know why,
you don't think that I had anything to do with
it or was, But like I said, they had three
top ten classes in the three years before N I

(01:11:46):
l Um. People would say, well, you know, they never
had a class quite like this one. Yeah, but they
were recruiting at an elite level. And then, like I said,
most of their class is from the state of Texas. UM.
A bunch of their kids that committed kind of committed
after coaching age his other places right. So one of
their best defensive lineman was committed to Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley leaves,
so he ends up going to Texas A and M.
One of their best defensive backs was committed to uh

(01:12:09):
L s U Brian Kelly at Oristron gets fired. So
I think there were reasons why Texas A and M
could have signed that class without just outright paying players
in i L. Yeah, well that's because kids in Texas
want to go ahead and play in the SEC. So
you know, maybe that was the best way to go.
Now it's a little bit different, um, when you're gonna
have Oklahoma in there. I think they're going to go

(01:12:31):
ahead and steal a lot of recruits from Texas A
and M. You know, Texas going to the SEC to
right right exactly, but you know not so you don't
think Texas is gonna steal recruits even though they have
the number one player in America. They'll do. Did you
see that story about how much they paid to entertain
Arch Banning? Did you see that? I did? And I'll
tell you what. We'll discuss that next. Aara towards Arni Spanier.

(01:12:51):
Fox Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Saturday. Aaron Torres Rni SPANIERD and for Jason are
in the USC Trojans driving up fourteen three, aren'tie. We'll
continue the conversation on USC, by the way before we
get to the arch Man stuff really quick, aren'te. Um.
There was one of the results that I actually want

(01:13:13):
to ask you about. L s U at home takes
care of Mississippi State and I know as a pair
of unranked teams and whatever, blah blah blah, But we
all saw L s U two weeks ago against Florida State.
They were an abominate, they were awful, They looked really
good today. They finished the game four yards of total
offense about five yards per carry. Just in general, Brian Kelly,

(01:13:34):
it feels like you either like Brian Kelly and believe
he's gonna fix L s U or you hate Brian Kelly.
He can't dance, he stinks he did this, he did that.
What What do you just think of Brian Kelly and
L s U in general? I don't know. I think
he's going to go ahead and fix L. Shoot. Now,
remember now we saw Mississippi Stated against the Arizona Wildcats. UM,
and they're not a bad team. Matter of fact, they're
very good offensive team, and yet they only put up

(01:13:55):
sixteen points against seller shoots. I think it was actually
better when then we're giving credit. Agree, Um, I think
they did a good job. Rogers had a good game
from Mississippi's day, but it just didn't result in points
out there. L s U. Um, it's gonna take a
little bit of time. I know we hear that all
all the time, especially when we talk about the Browns
good schools like that. But Ryan Kelly will have this
thing turned around sooner than later. Um, you know, don't

(01:14:16):
basically get on one game. They're they're two and one
right now, and um, they'll have a good year this
year and then next year the you know, they'll they'll
probably be a top ten team. I think, uh certainly
with him, will be easier to recruit down there. And
we've always talked about the the transfer portal. Having the
transfer portal is gonna be a big plus FORSOO. I
can see them getting a lot of transfers also. Yeah,

(01:14:37):
and they're one like USC that they really they probably
shouldn't even need the transfer portal once they get it
rolling because the recruiting base in Louisiana is so good.
I think everybody knows the stat but I believe it's
it is the most players per capita UH in the
NFL are are from the state of Louisiana. So l
s U gets the convincing win. USC is up twenty
two three UH reviewing a touchdown score, it looks like

(01:15:00):
they're gonna go up twenty three. So Arnie, before the break,
you did mention this story that came out from the athletic.
Credit the athletic, I mean, it was clear they did
some real homework on this story. I read it um
but basically it goes through you know, they put in
some freedom of information request. They go went through some
social media posts to try to piece together the entire
weekend in which arch Manning visited Texas, which ultimately led

(01:15:24):
to his commitment. Arch Manning, of course, the nephew of
Eli and Peyton, grandson of arch number one player in America.
Athletic tally that the recruiting weekend came out to six
hundred thirty thousand dollars. Aren't oh was it that much?
I thought it was only two and eighty thousand dollars. Remember,
now there was ten people total, But I didn't know
one up that high. Well, it says this year, according

(01:15:45):
to public records, the Longhorns spent nearly six hundred thirty
thousand dollars on two recruiting weekends in June, including the
weekend that Arch Manning was there, the Manning visit, which
costs over two hundred eighty thousand. As you said, nine
recruits there that weekend. Let me ask you, do you
have a problem? Do you care that school spend this
much on recruiting? Look, I know you have to. I mean,
otherwise how you gonna get somebody like Arch Banning and

(01:16:08):
and turn around your program which turns into dollars um
And it was for airfare and five star hotels and
the parents get an open bar and custom cakes and
top golf and the nice sculpture and a lake cruise.
I find it obscene, though, I really do. Um. I mean,
my goodness, man, when so many kids could think how
many scholarships you could throw for six hundred thousand dollars,

(01:16:31):
And you know some kids are just working their butt
off to be able to afford to go to a
school like that. And look, I don't mind the kids
getting scholarships to play and all that, but just the
recruit You're gonna spend six hundred thousand dollars on ten recruits.
That's what is that? Sixty Uh, you can spend on
sixty thousand dollars per close over two weekends, so let's

(01:16:52):
just use the archmanning weekend. But still thousand, you know,
per per recruit. That's a lot of money. Um when
all you know, what happened to the days of just
going ahead and sitting down with the parents and it's like,
we'd like your gid to come to school. Now we're
spending on stuff like top golf and cruises and five
star hotels, the whole things I've seen. Yeah, you know,

(01:17:15):
I will say I do. I do like. This is
one of the things that I like about the n
I L Era as USC is up twenty one to three.
I think if this story came out three or four
years ago, when players weren't getting paid, people would have
freaked out. And you spend that much money out of
recruiting weekend and the kids can't get any of it.
But I guess what for for to get a winning

(01:17:36):
team to compete at the high You know, what's the
old standard? You gotta spend money to make money, right,
and so this is what you have to do because
you know, if you don't do it, Alabama's gonna do it,
George is gonna do it, Texas A and m is
gonna do it. So I just you know, I'm glad.
I'm glad that you feel the same way that I do.
Aren't because I just look at this and I just say,
this is the cost of doing business right. And in

(01:17:57):
the amount of money that a good recruiting class which
could lead to wins on the field, what that is
gonna do for your university, for your foot What does
it say about the families though that say? You know what,
I think I wanted you to go to Texas because
they took us on a cruise and they took us
to top golf, or they spent money on an ice
sculpture or something like that. You're not supposed to pick

(01:18:17):
on that. You're supposed to pick on the education, maybe
even the coach. Let me let me do, let me
do the old Arnie span your terrible analogy. When you
when you went on your first date with Beth, did
you not I mean, you probably didn't roll out the
red carpet. But for most people, aren't you gonna take
her to a nice restaurant? Uh, put on a nice shirt.

(01:18:38):
I know you don't have to comb your hair, but
for the most of most of us, we have to
comb our hair. Are you gonna show up with a
mustard stain on your shirt and you're gonna do that?
You gotta, you know, you gotta put a good presentation
for it. If you want somebody to commit the next
four years, if you want somebody to send your son
to play at that university, you gotta put a good
foot forward, don't you, Arnie. You gotta put foot a
good foot forward. But that doesn't mean, oh my goodness,

(01:19:00):
they have an open bar. We gotta go to school here.
I mean there's just and again, I know that's just
small in comparison to the price. But you're supposed to
be picking on where your kid is the most places
to succeed. You're supposed to go on where you best
best education, where you can go to the next round,
maybe you like to coach. Those should be your top
three reasons, So who's to say they weren't. The top

(01:19:22):
three reasons could be could be why I guess the
open bars number four then right, is that what it is?
I mean it's a good number four sculptures number five
and I did see the customized cakes that that. It
was funny, like if you read the article, it's just
like twinkies or no big cakes. Well, there was one
part where they went out to dinner. Then they had
the parents open bar separate from the kids, and then

(01:19:44):
they got back to the hotel like two am and
they had a full, full, full spread of food at
two am. It's like, how much can you feed people?
I guess again, I guess you have to to keep
everybody happy. But but yeah, man, it it's crazy. But
you know what, though, here's the thing. If arch Manning
comes in, if arch Manning helps him win a national championship,
you know how much that money that's gonna make for

(01:20:05):
the school in the athletic That's why you do it, exactly,
That's why you do it. Fox Sports Radio aeron Torres
Arnie Spaniard a couple of scores to keep you updated
on Texas A and M seventeen to six, Miami is
driving though third and six deep in Texas A and
M Territory usc up twenty one to three on Fresno

(01:20:25):
State and the Arizona Wildcasts seven seven, fu Man everybody
our three Fox Sports Radio Aaron Torres, Jason Martin is out. Unfortunately,

(01:20:48):
Arnie Spanier is in his place. We are broadcasting live
from the tirac dot Com studios. Tirac dot com will
help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers
tirect dot com. The way tire buying should be a
couple of games still going on? Aren't he just kind
of want to put a bow on the college football

(01:21:08):
for today? Uh, let's start with uh. First of all,
a couple of games that are going on. Arizona, New North,
Dakota State seven seven, Texas A and M punting the
ball back to Miami up seventeen to nine, was seven
minutes left in Kyle Field College Station. USC. It is
now twenty one to ten. USC leads Fresno State early second,

(01:21:29):
mid second quarter in the coliseum. Utah is playing as well,
up twenty one nothing at halftime with San Diego State.
Really quick couple of stories from today from today, Arnie.
You know we opened the show talking Oklahoma, Nebraska. Nebraska,
of course, this was their first game post Scott frost
Oklahoma just absolutely took care of business. Final score forty

(01:21:51):
nine to fourteen. What is the bigger story to you
coming out of this game, Arenie? Is it Oklahoma absolutely
dominating the first time Brent Venables has been on this
Nation stage. Maybe looking like a team that's good enough
to compete at the top level of the sport. Or
is it just how far Nebraska has fallen as a program?
First well, Nebraska Oklahoma looked very good. There's no doubt

(01:22:13):
about that. They got down seven nothing. I'm like, WHOA,
did we miss something here? Is they're gonna be an upset,
but they quickly went ahead, went ahead and raised out.
I think the story though, is Nebraska, you know, with
the firing of their coach, with the firing of frost Um,
with as far down as days sunk over the last
twenty eight years. You know, We've always had that joke
Aaron that if you're a kid that's like, what twenty

(01:22:35):
years old, there's something like that, and you're a Patriot fan,
you don't know anything about losing. Until recently. I wonder
now reversed that with the Nebraska fans. If you're what
like thirty, thirty, five, forty, You've not seen a lot
of winning except for you know, maybe the early youth
of your you know, of your life, unlike some of

(01:22:56):
the older people that are Nebraska fans. So that's the
bigger story. How long is it gonna take the turn
it around? How do they get the recruits out there?
I still think the transfer portal is gonna make it
a lot easier for them like it is for all
the other teams. And really they should never have been
down this long. I I'm not sure why. Um, it's
one thing to be, you know, around five hundred or

(01:23:18):
you know, struggle a little bit, but they were downright
lousy um over the last on four or five years
for sure, So I'm not sure what to make that
and why recruits weren't going there are And Yeah, for
first of all, I think the stat is two thousand
and one is the last time Nebraska is finished in
the top ten nationally, Arnie. So if you're thirty years old,
that means you were nine the last time that Nebraska

(01:23:40):
finished in the top ten, just the top ten, And
this was a team that was historically uh top ten
team and dominated college football for a long time. Absolutely
three national championships in the nineteen nineties and shows you,
as Arnie just said, how far they fall in Um,
what I would say, I do think Listen, I don't
think we're ever getting back to that level of success

(01:24:00):
at Nebraska for a number of reasons that have been
talked about for years now. I do think in the
twelve team playoff era where the transfer portal is a
thing and I L is a thing. You know the
one thing about Nebraska, Garney, and I know you know this,
but um, you know, a few schools a few states
care about college football, and one school in specific in Nebraska.
Uh quite like Nebraska fans do. I mean the the

(01:24:22):
sellout streak which states back you know, forty fifty years
is absolutely incredible. Uh. They love that team. And so
I do think n I L transfer portal, with the
right coach, can they be the third best team in
the Big Ten and compete for a playoff berth in
that twelve team playoff era. I do believe they can,
and I believe that's going to be I do think

(01:24:43):
that's kind of the ceiling, right. I think everyone's the
right coach. Urban Meyer, Why would Urban Buyer and I
know he's a good recruiter, but why would urban Meyer
be um any better or not much better than a
Scott Frost who was a former star there. You would
think if anybody was good to get people to go
to the Brawska, it would be somebody like Scott Frost.
That it turned to be the opposite, opposite, you know,

(01:25:04):
well it is. It is funny because there has been
some revisionist history the last few weeks with Scott Frost
of like, oh, you know what to hire that Scott
Frost was universal, like like you know, everybody, there's this
Tim Brando clip, you know that's that's circulated around when
Scott Frost got hired. I feel bad for Tim. He's
been on this show. I think good friend of mine.
I like him a lot where he said something about,
you know, this is the next great coach of college football.

(01:25:27):
This is when he was hired, or he's at Nebraska's
Nick Saban or something like that. When Scott Frost was hired,
it was universal. There wasn't a single person that didn't
think he would work. Aren't like you said? Young Dynamic
played their thirteen and oh at Central Florida. By the way,
Texas A. Miami is driving on Texas A and m
across the fifty yard line down seventeen to nine, was

(01:25:49):
six minutes left. Um, it was universal that that guy
was gonna work. Now you brought up urban Meyer, But
I do think there's a difference between a guy that
could work and a guy that's won three NASH World
Championships at two different schools. So I don't think they're
getting urban Meyer. I don't think urban Meyer wants to
go there. Although I will say there was a report
from Dennis Dodd today that that they have contacted urban Meyer.

(01:26:11):
They did keep it vague. Uh, they did keep it
vague in terms of what it meant by contact. Was
he contacted to consult, Was he contacted to talk about
the job as a coach as of this as a that? Um,
But I don't think he's going there. I think he
is probably the only guy though that I would argue
success at a very high level is guaranteed if forber takes.

(01:26:31):
I'm not look, I'm not saying he's gonna go there either,
but I don't think it's completely out of the REMA possibility.
Considering what happened in Jacksonville. I still think that his
coaching days are not done. It might not be Nebraska,
but I don't think his coaching days are done. See
I agree with you thousand percent on that. And we
don't have to turn this into an urban Meyer thing.
Guys like fifty seven, fifty eight years old, Nick Saban

(01:26:51):
seventy one. I mean, you can't tell me urban Meyer.
And I know he works for for Fox. Now I
get all that. I want to be respectful of him,
but you know, every he has done TV before, and
every single time he goes back to coaching, and so
I still believe he's got one more job in him.
What is that job? Who hires him? What does it
look like? I don't know, but I'm with you. I

(01:27:11):
think he's got one more job in him. Who goes
back to work for a Sereno Williams urban Meyer. I mean,
all these people say they're retiring, but they never retire anyway.
Roger Federer this week, well, I I think, well who No, Well,
he's like I mean, that is a little different. But
I would answer your question with urban Meyer. I I
I'd be lying if I said I followed Serena's career

(01:27:33):
super closely, although I did really enjoy the US Open
this year? Aren't? But it seems as though she's transitioning
very nicely into motherhood and really enjoying that element of
her life. So, but yes, I would say urban Meyer
h really quickly. A couple others news and notes from
across the sport. Uh, Georgia they dominate, I mean just

(01:27:53):
absolute domination at South Carolina. The final score in that one. Uh.
They take care of business in a big way against
South Carolina. Um, Arnie, I know, I don't know actually
where you stood. We we opened the show by by
discussing the Georgia Bulldogs there forty eight to seven win
over South Carolina. Do you believe that the reigning national

(01:28:16):
champion is better than last year? Because after three games,
I think you can very much make the argument that
that's the case. I don't know. I think there's bigger separations.
I said this earlier. I think there's a bigger separation
than there were last year, which is only which is
the only difference that really makes UM doesn't really make
a difference if they're better than last year or not.
It depends on how far number two is away. Uh.
They really did a job on Rattler he didn't have

(01:28:38):
a good game at all, and he's his quarterback rating
was absolutely abysmal, like in thirty two. So they just
got on in big time. You know, talk about the
quarterback that's under rated. Nobody ever talks about Stenson bending um,
and he's just been absolutely flawless the last year plus.
And UM, here's a guy that fought for everything he's got.
He he deserves all the credit, well a lot of

(01:29:00):
the credit. But um, a guy that probably won't play
at the next level. We'll have to wait and see. Well,
he does deserve all the credit because you know, I
think it's easy to forget, like people were calling for
him to be benched, not only like like Arnie, not
only like not only in his career, like into the
National Championship game a year ago. Remember they lost to

(01:29:21):
Alabama in that SEC championship game, and everybody was saying,
you can't win a championship with this guy, can't win
a championship with this guy, Gotta bench him, gotta do this,
gotta do that, um and so uh so, for him
to do what he has done could come back is
really incredible. I should give a quick update on this. Miami,
Texas A and M game. Texas A and M forces

(01:29:41):
a fourth down, there's three forty five left, Miami still
has two time outs. Miami is actually going to punt
the ball back to Texas A and M because it's
like fourth and nineteen or something like that. Yes, fourth
and eighteen. They are going to punt the ball back
with three minutes and about thirty seconds left. Uh, two
time out, So Texas A and M Arenty, I'm not

(01:30:02):
great at the clock math here, but if they get
a first down, this game will be over. As uh
Miami does down it on the one yard line, although
there is a flag on the play. Yeah, I ahead
of you for once. No, I'm not watching that game.
I have the Arizona game, so yeah. But hey, if
I'm gonna watch a game, that was gonna be throw
but I might have to switch over to that one

(01:30:22):
and and see what's gonna happen there. I have to
see my Wildcats get into the end zone. But I
think with two time outs left, you're right, maybe it's
gonna take one first out Free and M and then
they could probably run out this clock. Yeah, you're usually
pretty good with it with the timing, and everything looks
like in a legal formation penalty on Miami. Uh. I
maybe make them kick it again. I'm not the rules

(01:30:43):
are I'm not exactly sure how the rules work here.
Will take a look. But the ball did land on
the UH within the on the one yard line for
Texas A and m Either way, Texas A and m
is going to get the ball back with just a
little bit of time. Of course, I make them punt
it again. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna start off
with the one line. What are you crazy? And I'll
chew up more time. No, I'm gonna make him punt
it again if I after and and that is exactly

(01:31:05):
what's gonna happen. Is Miami is lined up to punk
three twenty left in the in the fourth quarter. Here
Miami down seventeen to nine, Texas A and m is
ahead at home three twenty left, and it looks as
though Miami got the punt off cleanly this time. Oh
wait a minute, my friend, they fumbled the punt. I

(01:31:27):
don't know if they got it. There's a big scrambled
for it. Well, so you've got the ball then, I see.
That's why I can't have you watching these games. Go
back to the Arizona game, because you are absolutely right.
There was a it's going to be my goodness, Artie
span here you're back, and chaos ensues. But Artie is
absolutely correct. And by the way, Artie, you laughed at me.

(01:31:51):
That was why I I said, maybe it don't let them,
Maybe you don't make them repunt the ball. You know,
you know what, that's why you don't start it the
one You're like, you could have the same fumble, and
Nick said, you know it's a touchdown for them, though.
You you go ahead and up clock if you don't
have confidence in your return or you let him, uh
you know, you let him just bounce it and don't
catch it and let it go down to where it is.

(01:32:11):
But you you can't go ahead and let's start at
the one yard line. You have to do it again. Well,
Texas M does appear to have the ball. Uh three
fifteen or so left in that game. Uh, Texas A
and M is up seventeen. And I tell you what,
We'll keep you updated on that one. USC up twenty
one to ten. Uh, just about two minutes left in
the first half on that one, forcing the Fresno State punt.

(01:32:33):
Tell you what Arnie will come back, We'll get your
final scores on the Texas A and M game, will
keep you updated on college football, and we will transition
to the NFL. A lot of interesting things happen in
week one. We'll discuss it all, and we'll discuss what
it means for week to Arria towards Arnie Spanier. Fox
Sports Radio, Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports

(01:32:53):
Saturday Terators, Jason Martin's out, Arnie Spaniards and Arnie. This
this A and M Miami game won't die seventeen to nine.
Miami did use their time outs, they did force the punt.
They have the ball back with one sixteen left. Artie,
what is going on in college station as Miami has

(01:33:15):
just picked up a first down. Okay, I think they
tie this thing up. Let's go and see if they
get in there. Uh makes a little bit of a difference.
When you thought, hey and them was going to go
ahead and start pulling away, Miami hung on, hong on,
and now they have a chance to try to get
in the end zone and get a two point convergent
from from time this game up the other big one
USC up twenty one to ten, Right before the first half,
and it looks as though the North Dakota State bis

(01:33:37):
in fourteen thirteen extra point pending, tying things up potentially
in Tucson. I'll tell you what, Arnie will keep you
update on the college football games. Let's get to the
NFL before we get to some of the week one
reaction over reaction, Just really quickly, Arnie, this Tom Brady story.
So you live in New England. I think everybody that

(01:33:59):
listens to our air waves knows, but you live in
New England. You covered Tom Brady basically on a daily
basis for years. We now had him come out and
say this week he made the big speech about you know,
I've missed weddings, I've missed funerals, I can't celebrate anything
between August and January. And then he had just I'll
come out a day later and say I've done my part.
It's time for him to do his. Uh, where are

(01:34:22):
you at with Tom Brady? Because I'll be honest, I
don't know that I really believe this. I don't know
if he's gonna make it through the season like I
think he will. I don't think it's inconceivable like he
just does not seem as invested, anywhere close to as
invested as he has been in the past. Well do
they play always on every Christmas? I don't understand, and

(01:34:42):
they'll talk he's a practice. I'm stopping. I mean, Shaq
play used to play on Christmas all the time. But
he was able to have Christmas, um with his family.
Maybe you have to go in a early to you know,
to play a basketball game or something. And how many
times do we have Christmas on a Sunday? Usually the
coaches will say, okay, Christmas is on a wed say
let's give everybody the day off and go spend it

(01:35:02):
with your family or something like that. So I think
he was being a tad bit over exaggeration there. Um.
If if that's what it is and he missed all
those things, then why did he come back for another year?
And why is he gonna probably come back next year
when it's all said and done. So he knows what's
out there. It's part of the job, um, working holidays.
It's kind of like what it is on sports radio.

(01:35:24):
You know what it is when you sign up for it.
So it's nothing new. And yeah, he's missed a few things,
but it's more important mr kids growing up, you know,
games they play and and and stuff like that. That
to me would be the worst. Who cares about certain holidays?
You know? So what do you what do you? How
do you think this ends? I mean if he you know,
obviously there's reports that him and Gizelle are living separately. Um,

(01:35:46):
I guess now he's taking Wednesdays off in the middle
of the seat, you know, during the season. This has
to be it, right, like this is definitely the final
year for Tom Brady. No, I wouldn't say definitely. I mean,
he he wouldn't even put the words definitely on that.
So no, I'm not going to say that. And he
thinks he could play until his fifties. I'm not gonna
say he's gonna do that either, But I'm starting to

(01:36:08):
think that maybe another two or three years before, yeah,
before he's ready to go and call it quits. And
I know Giselle wants him to go ahead and leave.
But again, that's what you sign up for when you
date and mary a NFL star, you know, it's that's
that's part of the program. Well that that's what you
sign up for. But we don't have a single person

(01:36:29):
on record as playing until he's forty five. So I
think he's blanda Julio Franco remember him, that guy just
played for him. But I mean, you know, I mean that,
like listen, I have no strong opinions on what he
should or shouldn't do. I mean, that's what a decision
for him and his wife for now is to make.
And you know, maybe it becomes his ex wife if

(01:36:51):
he doesn't make a certain decision here soon. Um. But
you know, I I just it appears as though it's
just it's just a very bizarre to o, man. I mean,
I don't know. You look at just everything that has
happened over the last couple of days as usc an
interception to end the first half. By the way, I
think it has to do a lot with what kind
of year he's going to have and where the team finishes. Uh,

(01:37:13):
that will help him to decide if he comes back
next year or not. Well, you know, I agree, and
I'll take it a step further. I thought our buddy
Colin Cowherd brought up a great point this week is
that you know, if he's in the a f C
with Joe Burrow and I know they lost the other day,
justin Herbert Patrick Mahomes Is it different because I do
think that's part of it, right, is that he's still
winning it A Really it's hard to step away when

(01:37:35):
you maybe have the best team in the NFC. UH.
But I will also say that you start to look
at that injury report going into this weekend, Arnie, they're
down a lot of guys and they could have a
lot of guys missing to Leonard Fournette is questionable, Julio
Jones is questionable, Mike Evans is questionable. Chris God when
he is out, he's down three offensive lineman. By the way,
Texas A and M UH is going to win this game.

(01:37:59):
They're gonna hold on who wins seventeen to nine in
this one army So Texas A and m gets to win.
But Tom Brady, I know what you just said, and
I think you're right the idea that, um, you know,
it's gonna be dictated by how good the team is.
I do wonder why what do you think happened in
the thirty or forty days that he retired? Why did
he retire to begin with? If he had second thoughts

(01:38:21):
about it immediately, wasn't because um somebody put out the
report early wasn't because Giselle made him RETIREE I get
the Philly. He never wanted to retire to begin with anyway.
You know, what do you think I mean, I do
you think. I don't think he wanted to retire at all.
I think there was so much pressure from him from
within his family, from the media, from other people who say,
don't forget the report got out. I think probably before

(01:38:42):
he wanted it out. So yeah, yeah, I think once
he got into retirement after a month, he said, you
know what, this isn't for me. I've I've got to
go ahead and change my mind now, better do it
sooner than later. And he put things in motions, so
he certainly changed that quickly. Yeah, I'm of the belief
I don't think he ever wanted to retire, because you know,

(01:39:03):
there was just no no sign in my opinion that
that led me to believe that like he was ready
to be done. They were winning at a high level.
Uh they you know, easily could have been in the Rams,
gone to uh you know, gone to the NFC Championship
game which they would have hosted against San Francisco. UM
and so I I never believe that he wanted to retire,
and um, yeah, yeah, I don't know why. I don't

(01:39:26):
know why do you have any I mean, I guess
we just talked about it, but I don't know's it's
it's a weird story thought, can we agree? Strange story retires, unretires,
marital conflict. It's just a bizarre, bizarre deal to kind
of follow. So yeah, I'm trying to watch it into
the Arizona first half year. There's what four seconds left.
There's gonna be a flag on the play. They're gonna

(01:39:46):
have the ball down at the four yard line. So
do you kick a field goal to go up steven
team fourteen? Or do you try to get one quick
play in the in the end zone. I don't know
if there's enough time though, four seconds left. We will
keep you update on the Arizona game. Uh Texas And
by the way, what game you ever kept people on it?
Possible upset? Eastern Michigan is leading Arizona State last night
check seventeen fourteen. Um, there's still two minutes something in

(01:40:09):
the first half. Their terrible stuff. Nobody cares. They're really bad.
They're really bad. It is their their quarterback, befomer quarterback
looked really good for l s U. One of their
starting linebackers looks really good for USC. You talk about
the wrong end of the transfer portal that was Arizona
State last this offseason. Remember they are, of course coached

(01:40:30):
by Herm Edwards. Are right, I'll tell you what I
want to do now. So I want to do so
Week one of the NFL is in the books. We're
looking ahead to week two. But rather than just go
game by game, which we can do an hour four,
I want to do something. Let's call some week one overreactions.
I'm gonna give you some hypotheticals. You tell me if
I'm overreacting or not and why. Okay, So I'm gonna

(01:40:50):
start with this, Arnie, and I think I know where
you're gonna go. But since you're in, let's start with
the Miami Dolphins. Yeah. I believe the Miami Dolphins will
not only make to play offs, as both you and
I predicted, but that they will win at least one
game in the playoffs. Are you buying? Are selling me
over reacting on this? No? A matter of fact, I'm um,

(01:41:11):
you're probably gonna be surprised about this. I didn't think
they were all that impressive. I thought they were gonna
beat the Patriots anyway by two touchdowns. I thought they
were a gift lay and three points. Patriots are a
five win team at best this year. But the Dolphins
I thought could have put up more points offensively. They
are going to be a playoff team. They won't have
enough to beat the Buffalo Bills and went out that

(01:41:32):
the vision, But they'll go ahead and get one of
the wild cards. They'll get the offense going. They used
Tyreek Hill pretty well eight receptions, but um, it will
get together. It's gonna be baby steps. I like him
against the Ravens tomorrow. But um, yeah, no, don't. That's
no overreaction. The Dolphins are for real, no doubt about that. Yeah.

(01:41:53):
I thought, you know, all things considered, Bill Belichick usually
just pretty well against you on quarterbacks, first stake, first game,
implementing a bunch of new guys. I thought they looked
pretty good. Arnie, is it an overreaction? You know what,
Let's stick with the Arnie spanierd theme. Yeah. The Giants
in a all of a sudden wide open NFC East.
The Giants to win the NFC East after beating Tennessee

(01:42:15):
last week. What do you say, Brian Dable, Are you
a buyer? I am a buyer. You know, it's interesting
because Bernie Fratto told me a bunch of times. I
got a get Bernie credit for this that if you're
ever going to take a team to go from worst
to first than any of the divisions, take the Giants.
Not that they had the most talent in the division,
but because their schedule was really really easy, and who knows,

(01:42:37):
if they got back out track, maybe they could make
a little bit of a run. That was an impressive
victory over the Titans. Now, I still don't buy in
the Daniel Jones, but I'm thinking maybe he could be
a little bit more serviceable. And now that we know
what happened to Dak Prescott, all of a sudden, the
Giants maybe the second best team in that division, plus
an easy schedule, and maybe say Kwan Barkley's back after

(01:42:59):
the Mongus game that he had it was to say
that maybe the Giants um are not gonna make a run. No,
I don't think that's overreaction at all. The schedule is
very breaks, very nicely. Panthers at home, Cowboys at home,
Bears at home, or their next three, then they could
they could be went four in hours. Yes, then they
have to go to Green Bay and Baltimore and then

(01:43:20):
it's Jaguar, Seahawks, Texans Lions. Arnie, did you put this
schedule together for if you're a giant fitted to make
yourself out of schedule as easy as possible? I don't
think if you could make it any easier that you
mentioned the two tough games, But man, that's those are winnable?
What eight of the first ten? Is that what you're
right off there? That that's that's crazy? So the first

(01:43:42):
four and then there's two more, and then yeah, the
next four right after that, and then we get to Washington.
So the New York Football Giants. I I didn't I
didn't think I was gonna be as strong on that
as maybe not being an overreaction. I don't think it
is an overreaction. Ill that's why you should have taken up.
I'm just saying that's why Bernie thought that if you're
ever going to take the odds, I think they were
like ten to one or twelve to one to win

(01:44:04):
the division. Now that we know about doc Um, you know,
I know Philadelphia is still the best team in that division.
But those were some damn good odds. When it was
all said and done, I tell you what, we will
come back with the overreactions plenty more. I got a
few more four yarny that will discuss next. I do, though,
I want to transition third time this evening, Steve to Sega.
Can you tell us what's trending? My friend? Do you

(01:44:25):
met you in for an overreaction segment? You have the
correct home co host tonight. We've got a lot of
college football to get to, but first these notes. We
are awaiting the judges decision. But boxing is done in
Las Vegas, and it looks like dominance for Canelo Alvarez.
This would be a win, and apparently easy one over

(01:44:47):
Ganati Golovkin, who, according to reports, was looking every bit
the age forty that he is. There was the NASCAR
race tonight at Bristol, a win for Chris Busher. Chase
Elliott finished second, eliminated from off contention Tonight Kevin Harvick,
Kyle Bush, Austin Dillon, and Tyler Reddick. Cameron Smith leads
to live golf event by two strokes in Chicago. Dustin

(01:45:09):
Johnson shot seventy three and fell to second place. And guys,
I do not remember a baseball game this long since
we went to that runner on second base to start
every extra inning. It's bottom of the fifteenth at Cleveland.
We are after twelve thirty am Eastern Time. Guardians six twins, six,
two outs in, and Cleveland just had its runner thrown

(01:45:30):
out at third base, So for all I know, we're
going to a sixteenth shortly. Stay tuned. This is the
second of a double header. Also, by the way, Cleveland
won the daytime game, the opener, five one over Minnesota.
With two and a half weeks left in the season,
the Guardians are the first place team in the AL
Central four and a half over the White Sox, who
won on eleven innings, and currently six up on the Twins.

(01:45:51):
Now to college football, number seven, USC leads at the
half ten over Fresno State. A and M defeated Miami
seven team to nine, and the Miami Hurricanes were ranked
number thirteen into the in the country coming into this one.
The Athletics says Miami's the first team in at least
twenty years to have no touchdowns despite at least twenty

(01:46:12):
seven first downs in the game. A and m wins
at home number fourteen. Utah now up on San Diego
State thirty five. Nothing. That's late in the third quarter,
believe it or not. Last I checked, the Iowa game
has not been called a second lightning delay in the
third quarter, so technically it's still in the third quarter
in Iowa leading Nevada seventeen. Nothing. It's been delayed twice

(01:46:37):
in the third and so here we are past eleven
thirty Central time. This I can tell you that in
the last hour, the fans were told reportedly to leave
the stadium, So reporters started to think, oh, maybe the
athletic directors and the coaches are getting together and we're
done with football. But you know, that's been over forty
five minutes and they've not announced anything. So you got

(01:46:59):
me on this one. It's Nevada zero. It's just not
unusual for an Iowa game. But Iowa seventeen, now that
is unusual. If you've seen this game started at six
thirty Central time, Did you guys really quickly see the
cameos that the Iowa fans sent out this week? Do
you know what I'm talking about? So the Iowa fans
paid prominent people you guys know what a cameo is, right,

(01:47:23):
it's like a paid you know, you pay a celebrity
and they send a message. So they paid Bob Stoops
and the head coach of Iowa football Frana Iowa basketball,
Fran McCaffrey to send a very thoughtful message to Brian
who's going through tough times and just want him to
know his family has his back and they're always going
to support him. Brian, of course being Brian Ferns, the

(01:47:45):
son of Kirk Ferns. Uh you know. So, so they
basically had who is the offensive coordinator for Iowa. So
so basically they had the Iowa basketball coach saying, Brian,
you're gonna get through it. Your family has your sport.
And then one of them, I guess Brian Ferens was
either a player in New England or a former assistant coach,
and the Fran McCaffrey literally said, you know, it might

(01:48:05):
be best for you to go back to New England
where you're truly loved or something like that. It's it's
pretty it's pretty funny if you go back and look
at it's pretty good. And gentlemen, the extra inning game
is over. The Cleveland Guardians have just one here in
about twelve thirty five Eastern in fifteen innings seven six
over Minnesota to sweep the double header. On FS one,
it is halftime at Arizona the Wildcats for now, we'll

(01:48:29):
call them the Wildcats. Yeah, that's seventeen seventeen fourteen leaders
against New Mexico State, New Mexico North Dakota State, which
is number one ranked in FCS. Unlike New Mexico State,
it's not what you would call an FBS program, but okay.
And that Arizona State game you mentioned in Tempe Eastern
Michigan up twenty four fourteen half and getting in a

(01:48:54):
third quarter now, but that's unpacked twelve network, so only
people in Vermont can see that, so we I can't
give you a firm update. And the late game is
underway in Hawaii with the home team leading Duqueesne seven
three in the first quarter. One. NFL note Colts wide
receiver Michael Pittman out for tomorrow at Jacksonville with a
quad injury. Back to you the saga really quick. We'll
have you up and we'll have you back in about

(01:49:15):
ten minutes for your extended update. What do you got
for us. Well, now, not just the details, more on
some of the college football games. And Washington looked impressive.
Oregon as well. But we'll review the day of Appalachian State.
It'll bring a smile to your friend. Unbelievable, the saga
we cannot wait, thank you very much. All right, I'll
tell you what. Don Let's give us some music. Let's

(01:49:36):
get to some more. Week one NFL overreactions. Uh so, Arnie,
we talked about the Dolphins taking care of business against
New England Patriots. Patriots stink they have they don't have
an offensive coordinator. Bill Belichick doesn't look like very much
of a genius right now. If I told you Bill

(01:49:56):
Belichick is not the Patriots head coach, whether he retired
years or Robert Craft, they go, you know, six and
eleven ish and Robert Kraft says, maybe we give you
a consulting gig or something like that. On a scale
of one to crazy, how once to tend crazy? How
crazy do you think that is? Well? Get I answer
it this way. And I love when people go, I
don't give a hot sports opinions. I don't give a

(01:50:18):
hot takes. I don't know why hot takes all of
a sudden bad thing to give. I think Belichick or
retire before Tom Brady. How about that. I think that
the Patriots are gonna be so miserable this year. Uh.
And I said they're gonna be a five win team.
If they're gonna win five games, when you're a Hall
of Fame coach and you're used to winning and winning
Super Bowls, five wins might be something that kind of

(01:50:40):
forces you in the retirement. If he doesn't retire from it,
five wins maybe enough to say I want to get
the hell out of here. I'll be like, Tom, send
me someplace else, and I'll go ahead and rebuild it
that way. But I don't think he's going in the
last too much longer with the Patriots if they continue
to be like this, or if I'm right, they only
win five games. Yeah, it's really interesting that you and

(01:51:01):
I were on air um the night that everything ended
against the Tennessee Titans and that that divisional round of
the wild card round. And I bring it up because
I remember asking you when Tom Brady went to Tampa,
you know how long of a leash until with Bill Belichick?
And and I think we both kind of real you know,
he you know, he can name the date whatever. I

(01:51:21):
kind of think we're getting to that point where, like
you said, he was winning at such a high level.
The other thing that strikes me about that, Martie, I
don't think he has a plan, Like what's the plan?
I mean, I know they have mac Jones, but we
know what his ceiling is. The coaching staff is kind
of a weird conglomerate. They don't draft well. I just
don't believe that. Um you know that that I don't know.

(01:51:42):
I wouldn't be surprised they have nobody offensively exacting to
scare me. I mean, yeah, let's say Damian Damien Harris
is good. He's average, but there's nothing. I'm not gonna
sit down and go, we gotta stop this guy and
we'll stop the Patriots. Um. Mac Jones is a average quarterback.
He's okay. Um, But it's not like I'm like, oh boy,

(01:52:03):
we gotta make sure we take away the receiver's m
he's going to kill us. Jacoby Myers is what their
best receiver. I just there's nothing on this team that says,
WHOA watch out for the Patriots. They're gonna come right
at you, you know, and again they haven't had that
dating back to the last couple of years of the
Brady era, because I remember thinking Tom Brady was washed up.
It turned out you didn't have anybody throw a minute.

(01:52:25):
They still had Brady and Grunk though that year you
said the last couple of years. But I mean he's
a tight end by the way. I mean two has
got Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill and he Tom Brady
has a beat up ground. Give me a break. So
last one, aren'ty? I do want to get this one? Tried?
I tried, he did. It was a good effort. Were
you like the brasket football? You try, really try? But

(01:52:47):
last one? The San Francisco forty Niners make the playoffs
and make a run with Jimmy g Is their quarterback.
Is that an overreaction as in Trey Lance ain't for
the the long haul as the quarterback of the San
Francisco and ain't gonna be with Trey Lands, that's for sure.
And by the time they make the move to Jimmy Garoppolo,

(01:53:07):
it's probably gonna be too late, especially in that division.
They'll probably have to wait till like they're one in three,
maybe one in four. If they have to make a
change like that. I just don't think if you want overreaction,
Tray Lance ain't the guy my friend, Um, he needs
some more time. They're back on the bench to learn,
though people say the best way to learners get them
out there. Forty nine and faithful won't go through a

(01:53:30):
one in three one in four start without yelling for
Jimmy Garoppolo. So uh, if they go to Jimmy Garoppolo,
they still won't make the playoffs, but it'll be too
late by them. By the way, I don't think it
is an overreaction or a hot take too to say
he ain't the guy. I mean, listen, you know with
the thing that with Trey Lance, it strikes me is
and I've said this is it's okay to put in
a young quarterback, where when it's not okay to put

(01:53:51):
in a young quarterback when you is when you definitively
have a better guy and your super Bowl window is
right now. Like, I think that's the part that people
are getting t dup on is the idea that this
is not the Jets with Zack Wilson or the Bears
with Justin Field, Trevor Lawrence, whatever in Jacksonville. They have
a team built to win. Now, I don't think Trey

(01:54:12):
Lance is the funny you say, play Jimmy G. But
yet the Steeler fans want to play the rookie. But
I don't that the Steelers don't have an across the
board roster like they don't have an across the board
roster like San Francisco. And I would add, they don't
have a starter that's definitively better like Jimmy G. Mr Bisky,
ain't that guy? So Fox Sports Radio Aeron Torres, Arnie

(01:54:35):
Spanier in for Jason Martin. Coming up, we bring back
to Sager. He gets us caught up on all the
stuff we missed, including, as he said, a crazy finish
in college football. That's next. Errantoris, Arnie Spanir, Fox Sports Radio,
Welcome back, everybody, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday. Aaron Torres,
Arnie Spaniard in for Jason Martin. We are of course

(01:54:56):
coming to from the tire rack dot Com studios, and
as we do every week at around twelve forty five
Eastern time, let's bring in Steve to Saga. There's actually
a lot to get us updated on it this hour
to Sager. The floor is years, my friend, Iowa football
will continue to ladies and gentlemen in roughly ten minutes.
They will resume the game after two third quarter lightning delays.

(01:55:19):
Iowa at home is leading in the third seventeen nothing
against Nevada. The first weather delay was eighty minutes. Then
they played for about ten real minutes and then had
another lightning delay. One of the columnists in Iowa, Chad
listick Oh, said that there was an unintentionally hilarious moment
during this delay outside the stadium. A bunch of fireworks

(01:55:41):
went off behind the scoreboard, because apparently once those are
loaded in, it's a safety hazard if there aren't launched.
So the game's not near over. There's no touchdown score,
but they let loose with those. And now you do
during the break, by the way, do you have a meal?
Do you lay down, take a nap? What do you
do for announcers or players? Players? Oh? Yeah, players, I'm
I'm sure there's food involved, but yeah, the getting up

(01:56:02):
and stretching and going back to I mean, this is
a third time and this is really well, you had
the halftime plus two third quarter weather delays. This is
really ridiculous. At this point. Kudos to Gus Johnson, who,
according to Fox Sports pr is said to be doing
well and will return to his play by play duties
next week. If you were watching today's Oklahoma Nebraska telecast,

(01:56:23):
Gus Johnson had to leave just before halftime due to illness,
and so the analyst Joel Clatt did play by play
for the rest of the day, and they brought Brady
Quinn up to the booth to join him for the
second half. And kudos also to the Sun Belt Conference
the kind of month they have had already. In college football,
South Alabama Same came so close to winning at the

(01:56:45):
Rose Bowl today, U c l A kicked a field
goal at the end for a thirty one win. Old
Dominion came so close in state at Virginia Cavaliers with
a game winning field goal sixteen fourteen. And then there's
app State who had the crazy opening game where they
got host North Carolina in state wacky fourth quarter and
app State lost sixty sixty one. And then Appalachian State

(01:57:07):
one at Texas A and M last week, and remember
college Game Day was reportedly going to be at A
and M this morning. And then once app State I've
said him, they said, let's go to the mountains of Boone,
North Carolina, And that's where the show was on cable
this morning with thousands of fans who had slept overnight
to get a space and welcoming them in. Now they
weren't carrying the game. It was Appalachian State hosting Troy today.

(01:57:30):
But they also during the show today on ESPN, had
you know the signs are always held up, hundreds of
them at scenes behind the announcers. For the best signs.
The three finalists each got as a surprise free tuition
from a man, and the winning sign was something like
Texas A and M. The only a t M where

(01:57:51):
you can withdraw one point five million years, which is
the guarantee they got for going to college station last week.
So then you get to the actual gay him and
all this incredible week in this little town and app
State is losing six in the final seconds to Troy.
It's time for them to try. The hail Mary from
beyond Midfield was high into the air. It's up for grabs.

(01:58:14):
It is juggle. Can you tell this is app State Radio?
The varsity? App app State wins the Ferrico Park. Don't

(01:58:37):
you give up? Baby? App States through the Hail Mary pass.
It was tipped in about the five, caught and run
in for the score. They perfectly short of the pass
in the air on Miracle on the Mountain Park to
thirty two to eight the final truly crazy. What a

(01:58:59):
season they've already. Meanwhile, in the Big Twelve, Kansas State
lost at home to two Lane seventeen to ten, while
Kansas wins by double digits at Houston thirty. The Athletics
says the Kansas Jayhawks football have won three of their
last four road games. Before this, Kansas football was two

(01:59:19):
and sixty four on the road in their previous six
in Vegas. I think it was two and a half.
They hit over today and actually Vanderbilt hit there over
today to Vanderbilt. Yeah yeah, and Duke has isn't Duke
Kansas coming up? It's just ridiculous. Should I mention that
the national attention that Connecticut football got today, Listen, backup quarterback,

(01:59:41):
true freshman, top three wide receivers out with injuries, top
two running backs. I want to heart the worldcasting what
sound effect would be talking it was fifty nine, not
think Michigan over Yukon. Just for the record, in that one,
and as far as games in Prague, remember the Iowa
game is going to be in progress. There is a

(02:00:04):
game on FS one and it's Arizona seventeen fourteen over
north early third quarter, ladies. And I don't know what
else to say. Fox Sports Radio, Aeron Torres, Arnie Spanier,
thank you, Steve to say gerste coming up back to
the NFL week to preview ahead, Fox Sports Adio, Welcome
in everybody our four Fox Sports Radio, Aaron Torres, Arnie

(02:00:28):
Spaniard in for Jason Martin his Arizona Wildcatcher plant. So
you know how that one's gonna end. It's gonna be tough.
It's this we'll end the show before that game ends.
But it's seventeen fourteen Arizona. Getting a little nervous right now,
really quick. I'm guessing you're gonna stay up until the
bitter end on that one. Absolutely, of course. I am.
I got a basketball game early tomorrow though, Oh what time? Ten? Am?

(02:00:51):
So very interesting? Not really at all, but anyway, we're
excited for you. Who what's the scouting report? Oh big
run from North Dakota State. There you tumbling? What was
Chris Berman? I'm sorry I'm not Chris Burman, so I
should mention. By the way, we're coming to you live
from the tire rack dot Com studios. Tirac dot com
will help you get there and unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,

(02:01:14):
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect
dot com the way tired buying should be. So, I
so you got a game at ten am tomorrow, Anie,
Huh ten am. I'm averaging five points of games so wow,
Um yeah, it's uh, I gotta get up early. And
then I got a full day of NFL. I'm ready
to roll a week, two lots to get to. So
I'm ready to ready to look through the games. Well,

(02:01:35):
let's look through the games. Then let's uh, let's just
start kind of going through them. You know, I want
to start with I want to start how about this one, Arnie.
Well we'll start in a place that I wouldn't normally start.
But for the first time in what about three years,
the Detroit Lions are a favorite tomorrow against the Washington Commanders.

(02:01:58):
How about that Detroit coming in off that loss to Philly.
Obviously it was a close game, they lose by three.
The Commanders, Uh, coming into their their playing this game.
Excuse me, sorry, I'm watching this. Uh this this this
compelling Arizona North Dakota State game. But the game is
obviously in Detroit. Commanders coming into this game want to

(02:02:19):
know really quickly, how about the Malians as a favorite
coming into week two spanning? You know, I was a
little disappointed with with Detroit. Uh. It wasn't even that close.
I know they got a lot of touchdowns late, but
it was thirty one fourteen in the third quarter. That's
when Detroit started making the run a little bit. Um.
You know, the defensively, they gave up two way too

(02:02:40):
many points to Philadelphia. I think they're gonna be a
better team, but I was a little disappointed. I expect
them coming out of the gate though, you know, show
that ferociousness, especially on defense. Um, but got even can
Philadelphia credit for putting up thirty game points out there.
I think they'll be better though, and it isn't justesting.
I think they go ahead and and beat Washington. But
there's certainly a better team. Note out about that. Speaking

(02:03:01):
of making a run, North Dakota State has taken the
lead on Arizona midway through the third quarter. Uh, and
it also appears as though this Iowa game maybe in
another rain delay. I'm not sure we'll get to sigarette
on that one at some point. I'm by the way,
I'm with Deon Detroit just in general. Um, you know,
I don't want to say that I bought into the
hard knocks hype or anything like that, but I did think.

(02:03:23):
You know, you look at their drafts. You know, drafted
Adan Hutchinson from UH Michigan, Jamison Williams, who obviously can't
play yet from Alabama, but many thought he was the
best wide receiver. You have the cornerstone defense, offensive tackle,
and Pinney Sewell. I thought they'd be a little bit
further along than they were. Just in general, Areny really
quick on the lines? Are Do you buy into the
Dan Campbell stuff? Do you buy into the hype that

(02:03:45):
he's the guy he's gonna eventually turn it around or
do you think it's a lot of sizzle and no steak. No?
I think he I like him a lot. Um. Yeah,
I know we all made fun of him about to
bite the knee caps and and stuff like that. I
think we can see the team has turned it around
a little bit, especially at the end of last year
they looked a little bit better. Um, losing to the
Eagles not a good way to start in Philtelph. He
has a playoffs even, probably gonna win their division. We'll

(02:04:07):
see what they do against the Commanders. I I expect
him to win this game, go to one on one,
even things out and see what happens after that, is
that they go to Minnesota, the Seattle uh and then
the Patriots and the Cowboys. So very winnable games. After
the Minnesota game. When you play Seattle, Patriots, Cowboys, that's
three winnable games right there. I don't want to basically
over analyze Alliance Commanders game, but really quick, Carson Wentz

(02:04:32):
third third opportunity is an NFL starter. Usually don't get
the third shot. But to his credit, you know, he
looked pretty good last week forty one four touchdown passes,
obviously had the two picks. Any chance that he's the
right guy, that he's finally found his spot or was
this just a weird one off to you? I I
like Carson Wentz. I I don't do you you like him?

(02:04:56):
You know I'm out. I mean, my whole thing is
I'll just be quick, I'll touch a back to you.
Is that? Um? Is that when I look at Carson Wentz,
if it wasn't gonna click, you know, I get it.
He almost wanted super You know, he was really good
in twenty seventeen. That was a million years ago. The
team obviously won the Super Bowl without him. Um, and
I just look at it. It didn't work in Philly, Okay,

(02:05:18):
he gets a pass. When you go to Indie with
Frank Reich, the guy that got you to an m
v P caliber level, and after a year he's basically
doing anything he can to get get away from you,
That to me says you're not the guy so but
but you seem to like a Martin. I don't know.
When you go twenty or forty, when you're over threw
in your yards with four touchdowns, that means that says
to me, Um, you may be the guy this year.

(02:05:39):
I don't care what you've done in the years before.
But if you can keep boarding and putting up those
type of numbers, we'll go pretty damn far. Especially with
the Cowboys and in disarray, and we're better than the
giants they're taking to themselves. I I gotta feel good
about Carson Wentz, especially now you go to Detroit. Another
Winnabowl game for you. I have a lot of confidence
of Um Washington and Carson Wentz. Let's keep going. You

(02:06:01):
mentioned or we mentioned earlier in the show, we talked
a little bit about Tom Brady's personal life. Uh. The
Tampa Bay Bucks going to play in New Orleans. A
couple of interesting things here, aren'te. One, obviously, New Orleans
Wild win against Atlanta last week. But then two, Uh,
Atlanta or excuse me, Tampa hasn't won in New Orleans.
You know during the regular season. They want a playoff

(02:06:23):
game there, but they have one a regular season game
in New Orleans since twenty seventeen. And that injury report
for Tampa is just insane. Among the many players who
are questionable for this one, Mike Evans, Julio Jones, Leonard
four Nette, Uh, the left tackle, Donovan Smith, the right tackle,
Tristan Worth's this I get it like I get it's

(02:06:45):
Tom Brady. I get it's the Bucks. They are beat
up coming into this game, Arenie in New Orleans against
the Saints. What I don't know this did? Maybe I'm
not Maybe I'm looking at this wrong. Uh. There's people
that as you think that the Saints are the best
team in the NFC. A matter of fact, Peter King
put that out on his newsletter. Some people that you
like to say someone that division Tampa Bay has beat up.

(02:07:07):
You just read the injury report and it's like, uh,
a mile long. Why are the Saints the underdog in
this game? Can you explain to me why that's happening?
You know, the only thing I can think of, Arnie
is we know how much the public perception plays into
how lines are are made. Um but by two and
a half and then throwing the three points for home advantage,
they're taking a neutral scale that Tampa to be about

(02:07:29):
a six point favorite in this that's insane. Well, the
only thing I would say is, I do think that
Jamis Winston revision I think there's a lot of Jamis
Winston revisionist history. Like, you know, he was who he
was as a starter, and I get he's had he
had a year to back up Drew Brees and kind
of learned the game and da da da and this
and that. But let's not forget he's playing for a
defensive coach in Dennis Allen. Sean Payton, ain't there anymore?

(02:07:51):
I'll just say in general, like, forget this game. I
don't buy the Saints are the best team in this division.
The Saints are super Bowl threat. Maybe I'm missing some thing,
and I get there's a lot of weapons there. Alvin
Kamara obviously Michael Thomas was back last week. I do
not buy for a second that this team is a
legitimate threat uh in in the NFC. I really don't.
Maybe they're better than I gave them credit for. Maybe

(02:08:12):
they're a legitimate threat for the division. Um, and maybe
I just kind of overlooked m uh to start things off,
especially if Tampa Bay is gonna have all those injuries,
why shouldn't they be a team that steps on up
with the again Michael Thomas, man, I'm like, wow, that's
that's the Thomas of all the VI's be able to
do that all year long. All of a sudden, the
Saints are a team to be reckoned with. Very good

(02:08:34):
let's keep it going. Uh new Way just talked about
New England Bill Belichick. We both think that there's a
chance that even though just independent of his age, like
you know, he's we both think that there's a good
chance that that time is short for him with the
way things are trending. They obviously look awful offensively against
Miami playing a Pittsburgh team. Weird game. They win the game,

(02:08:56):
but they obviously lose t J watt Uh. You know,
Joe Burrow throws a million and picks in that one.
They do end up beating Cincinnati in overtime in Week one,
but but you know, Pittsburgh is playing New England. Pittsburgh
is a a slight underdog at home in this one,
which is amazing. I don't even know why that's even happening. Yeah, well,

(02:09:16):
I I mean I think Pittsburgh is like one of
the best picks of the of the weekend or tomorrow.
Oh absolutely, So what the Patriots did against Miami, Yeah,
they moved the ball a little bit, but they only
put seven points on the board. What are they gonna
do against Pittsburgh when you have no offensive weapons? Uh.
Pittsburgh defensively certainly created a lot of turnovers against Cincinnati.
I think they do the same thing against New England.

(02:09:37):
I just don't understand how you're getting to and have
points with Pittsburgh. I know a lot of people are
down on Pittsburgh. I I certainly understand that, but I
don't know where any of the love is coming in
with this Patriot team, because right now the Patriots, I
think are like a five win team. I said earlier, Yeah,
I just I look at the Pittsburgh game last last week.
I mean, when you it's almost two to one in

(02:09:58):
total yards, in terms of the angles, almost doubled you
up four thirty two to two sixty seven, Bengals, turned
the ball over four times, you lose t J. Watt,
and you need all of that to go right, and
you still only win by field goal and overtime. I
guess what I would just sit there and say is
I'm not a believer in the Patriots long term, but
I do think in the short term this is a
good spot for New England. I I you know, I

(02:10:20):
get what you're saying, Arnie, but I would also say
as bad as New England was, what don't you agree?
I mean, one, Mr Bisky is not the guy too.
They largely got outplayed by the Bengals, and Joe Burrow
was erratic with the ball, and three there's no t J. Watt.
So I know you like Pittsburgh, but I think there's
a lot of questions coming in there, there's tons of questions.
There's no doubt about that. I totally agree with you.
And um, how long is is Mr Bissy gonna be

(02:10:41):
the starting quarterback? Time will tell on that. But again,
I I go to the Patriots where they are just
absolutely nothing. A matter of fact, I think they can
finish the last place in the a f C East.
I think maybe the Jets could be a better team
than than the Patriots this year. Last one really quick
before we get to a break. Uh. You mentioned this
one earlier, Arny, but Miami going on the road of Baltimore.

(02:11:01):
Miami gets that win over New England. You said you
were a little bit underwhelmed by the Miami Dolphins against
the Patriots. They are playing the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore, of course,
in Week one, took care of business convincingly against a
bad Jets team. Who do you like in this one? Yeah?
I know, Littmar went ahead and put up three touchdown passes.
I think this game is gonna be a lot closer,

(02:11:21):
and people think. I think the consensus is that gamblers
are taking Baltimore minus three and a half. I just
like the Dolphins so much. I want to see him
open up that offense their defense. I know statistically have
him like in the fifteen sixteen, but I think there's
so much better than this. Does that show out there.
I just think this Dolphin team is just undervalued right now.

(02:11:44):
People are slowly starting to jump on that barewagon, if
they haven't jumped on that bail wagon already. And offensively,
they've got some serious weapons. We've seen that they got
the ball to Tyree kill like there it's supposed to.
I gotta tell you to uh made some horrible decisions.
I'm in horrible A couple of times he fumbled the ball,
but they said no, no, it was a pass and

(02:12:05):
they had the review it. One time late in the game,
there was a minute over a little over left in
a minute left in the game, the Patriots had no
time out to a fakes. The handoff rolls out. He
either has to go sliding now to keep the clock going,
run for the first down and then the game's over,
or even if you run for the first down and
go out of bounds, the game's over. He throws a

(02:12:28):
pass which is incomplete clock stops. Out of all the
things you can do, that's the one thing you didn't
want to do. So I'm still, you know, wondering if
he's making the right decisions. Uh, that's gonna cost the
big games sooner or later. This is Fox Sports Radio,
Aaron Tors, Arnie Spaniard in for Jason Martin. Couple of
college football updates. The Iowa game that has been in

(02:12:49):
two weather delays all night long. They come back on
the field and already within minutes go to a third
weather delay. Still gotta call this thing, don't they? Or
what I would think so? I would hope so, But
it does not appear as though as of right now,
they are going to at least nothing that I have
seen yet. USC has just scored to go up thirty

(02:13:11):
four to seventeen on Fresno extra point pending third quarter,
seven thirteen left. And how about the You already know
what this is about the Arizona Wildcats. They have retaken
the lead. What a valiant effort against the FCS North
Dakota State. What you have to say, that's the that's
their subdivision, that's where they play. I know that, but

(02:13:33):
you don't have to bring that up, though, I mean,
how could I not bring it up? It's where they play. Anyway,
The Arizona has taken the lead. It's a valiant comeback.
They'll be telling You're gonna be telling your grandkids about
this one. Arnie four beat number one. How you beat
number one. That's a great point. That's a great point
I should mention. By the way, I haven't even mentioned
Utah is playing tonight. Utah's rank number fourteen in the country.

(02:13:53):
They have a thirty five to seven lead, just a
couple of minutes left against San Diego State coming up.
Bernie Fratto of The Bernie Frido Show joins us. He
will get you caught up on everything in the world
of gambling, in the world of sports, and of course
preview his show. At the top of the hour, Bernie
Frido was next. This is Fox Sports Audio. Welcome back everybody,
Fox Sports Radio. Aaron Torres, Arnie Spaniel filling in for

(02:14:16):
Jason Martin, will come to you live from the tire
Rack dot Com studios. And when you hear Big Pimp
in it one twenty Eastern time, well, it could mean
a lot of things, but in Fox Sports Radio's case,
it means that Bernie Friddo's joining us. You can hear
him at the top of the Hour, the Bernie Frado Show,
Bernie my Man, what's going on, guys? Uh? Not for nothing.

(02:14:37):
I've got a call into the Ryan Fowler Real estate company.
I want to find out what five million will get
me in Burlington. A. Well, there's that five million will
get you a lot of egglues in uh uh, right
next to Arnie real quick burns. So one game Artie
and I really didn't get a chance to talk about
earlier was the Michigan game I forgot. I don't even

(02:14:58):
know who they played. It's insignificant, but it appears as
though j. J. McCarthy is their quarterback. They did beat
ukon my alma mater by a lot, but all right,
so j J. McCarthy is their quarterback, um, And I
know you have the backstory on how this all came together,
just just for some context for people. Of course, Jim
Harball about a month ago, said Kade McNamara. Last year's
starter was going to start week one, Week two was

(02:15:20):
going to be the backup J J. McCarthy and then
they would decide from there. And I know you have
the backstory on how it all came together, right, And
of course Kade was a captain in a Big ten
champ in hardball would have gone with him, but they
had an open competition. You know, I found out a
really cool story, and I don't want to pick on
hardball a lot, but you're gonna like this. When Jim
Harbaugh entered Michigan and eighty three, he never saw the
field as a freshman, barely played as a sophomore. Maybe

(02:15:43):
garbage time heading into his junior year broke his arm,
head to red shirt. So the spring of his junior
is walking across campus, he sees Boschan Beckler, legendary Boschen Beckler,
and his peripheral visions coach. He's his man. I hope
I don't see coach boll. I don't want to talk
to him. Sure enough, two seconds later, Hey, Jimmy, how
you doing good? Which How are you coming from class? Jimmy, Yes,
they're coach, I'm coming from class. Sean Beckler looks, walks

(02:16:05):
right up to him, stares at his feet, stairs at
his head, looks him up and down, says, what are
you waiting now, Jimmy? Too old to coach? Jimmy, I
want to tell you something. You might be the greatest
quarterback recruit I've ever had in the history of University
of Michigan. Or you might be the biggest mistake I've
ever made the University of Michigan. And he walks away

(02:16:26):
hard about didn't see him for sixty days, and he
admitted it messed with him for two or three months.
He woke up in August and said, I know what
coach meant. My fate. My fate is in my hands.
And that's what he told Kid McNamara and j J
McCarthy in August. Mcnamerica or j J. I was confused

(02:16:47):
Dylan McCaffrey with j J. McCarthy because they're similar. J J.
Really couldn't compete in spring because he was injured, so
they had an open competition and everybody saw that he wanted.
Coach said, though, look, I don't want you guys looking
at this is one guy beat out the other. I've
got two good quarterbacks. He looked at Caden says, listen,
this is football. You don't how this works. You're gonna

(02:17:07):
see the field again. Sure enough, he saw the field
of day one pass. He injured his leg. He's out
six weeks. So there you have it. Onward and Nupper
in Michigan will begin the season. J J. McCarthy, Bernie,
what's going on? One season long prop has already been
paid off? What happened there? Yeah, So here's a real
vote of confidence for you, Dallas Cowboys fans. I've been
touting all summer that they're gonna stink and they'll be

(02:17:29):
under ten and a half wins. If you're holding an
under of ten and a half points bet. The sports
book points bet has already paid out all Dallas under
bets already after a week one. So of course it's
a nice marketing ployer, right for a vote of confidence
you're Dallas Cowboys. That is actually pretty funny. Is speaking
of funny, North Dakota State has taken the lead Azona

(02:17:53):
really quick burn. I don't know if you would know this.
I can't imagine it's very often that an FCS team
actually enter says a favorite against an FBS opponent, But
every sports book that I saw today had North Dakota
as a slight favorite. North Dakota State, excuse me as
a slight favorite. Do you have any idea on how
often this actually happens? Well, that's a superb question, and
I probably could have researched it before the apologize it's

(02:18:16):
no problem. Uh, they actually opened up North Dakota State
is minus one closed at minus two and a half. Look,
there are no joke. We've seen him beat Oregon Kansas,
they went there. There there are no joke. Not only
a favorite, there a road favorite. So I would just
say this that that's you know what, that's a great question.
I don't have to answer for you next week, Bertie.
What's going on with the Survivor pull over at the

(02:18:38):
circuit contest? What's going on? So this is crazy. This
tells you how tough this is. Like Jimmy Vicarro said
last week after week one of the NFL, he says,
you know what, instead of trying to make money betting,
just apply for a job at Target. It would be
a lot easier. So there were six thousand, one hundred
and thirty three entrants in the Survivor UH contest at CIRCA,

(02:18:58):
and you guys all know who hows of riberpools were
heading into Monday. Half of them had been eliminated because
the four popular favorites were the Colts, Titans, Niners, and Bengals.
All of them lost. By the way, ties lose as well.
So if you tie you lose and then head into
Monday Night. Yes, there were five hundred and sixty nine
entries on the Denver Broncos. So now they're down to

(02:19:20):
about twenty after week one, and there's a belief this
card is pretty tough this week. It could be down
to fift hundred after week two. That has never happened.
You know, you know you mentioned Monday night burn um
just in general. With two Monday Night games this this week,
how crazy are the sports books going to be on

(02:19:40):
Monday again? A great question. There'll be extra crazy for
two reasons because anytime you have a standalone NFL game
going on, and that's the only game being played, and
you'll have two of them, one at four fifteen Pacific,
the other at seven, the action is through the roof.
But most S fourts books know, most bookies, no legal, illegal, whatever,
that people who are gonna chase on Monday, and they're

(02:20:01):
gonna try to catch up. And a lot of teasers
are tied to those two games, and a lot of
parley as we're tired to those two games, and so
it will be absolute pandemonium when Monday rolls around. You know, Bertie,
we were talking about a couple of games we didn't
understand the line. One of them was why is the
Saints playing it at home against Tampa and there are
two Adolf point underdog considering all the UH injuries that

(02:20:22):
Tampa has, And I still don't understand why the Patriots
are two enough point favored on the road against Pittsburgh. Well,
a couple of things. First of all, you got you listen,
Tom Brady carries a lot of cashier. That's is still
a very good football team. I don't care what anybody says,
and so does Bill Belichick. It doesn't hurt the t. J.
Watt is out. There's one defensive player that's probably worth

(02:20:42):
one point. But you got a couple of situations here
where it's a market line, it's not necessarily a scientific line.
Lines are always made based on power ratings, and frankly,
the Saints aren't power rated much better than UH than
than than Tampa Bay is, and in neither is Pittsburgh
over New England, quite frankly, But then they put the

(02:21:03):
send offline out in the market speaks and a lot
of the folks in the market believe that the Patroots
will get right against Pittsburgh, and in game two. I
don't know. I'm not going to be involved in that game.
I can tell you this team's on the road after
a Week one loss. It's only thirty six and fifty
six against the spread. That's that's not great. And I
thought you brought up some really good points about New Orleans.

(02:21:25):
We've all heard that they've beaten Brady four times in
a row. We know they get home on that a
gap blitz. I think you're gonna see under Todd Bowls
a much more unfriendly team. You're gonna max protect three
sets drops or three step drops, two receiver sets, much
more conservative game plan. I like the under quite a
bit in the Tampa Bay game. So to answer your question,
it's more of a market situation based on past performance.

(02:21:49):
There really is no home field advantage of three points
like it used to be. Home field advantage now is
maybe one point, maybe one and a half depending on
the quarterback. Because travel, simpler, technology is better, all of
those things, it's not as hard to play on the
road as it used to be. One of the quick
things I heard you guys talking about the Lions and
watching that's a scary trap game. I'm gonna tell you

(02:22:09):
why guys, I love the Lions. Last week they got
the back door cover hard Knocks teams that are a
home dog week one. It's only happened five times five
and oh against the number the Lions carried that trend.
But here's a bigger trend. If any Hard Knocks team
is a favorite at any time between week one and
week eight, they're only twenty two and thirty six against

(02:22:30):
his fread that's about and uh, you know what, the
Lions have been an underdog twenty five times in a row.
Something weird happens when you're dressed a team up as
a favorite. It's just not the same. He is Bernie Fritto.
He can hear him at the top of the hour
the Bernie Fritto Show. Also, by the way, you can
hear him on Friday nights at eleven pm Eastern. How's

(02:22:53):
the Friday Night Show going? Burn? So far? But having
having the time in my life, I did a real
rundown on Scott Frost last night. Clearly he was a problem, right,
I don't know they were. They were at least fun
to watch when he was coaching him. They were fun
to watch today listen to a lot of sharp money
was on Nebraska today plus eleven they come you know,
Oklahoma comes in there, Nebraska takes a ball down the field.

(02:23:15):
Seven nothing not up in here, man, not in then
later you know, guys, it just seems they're talking about
Marcus Freeman. Had he lost today? You know, what are
they gonna do? They're gonna come on, man, three games
just seems like yesterday in eighteen that Nebraskas started out
three and one, three and one in Scott frost tenure,
including a win over Alabama, South Alabama from Alabama. Yeah,

(02:23:39):
that's right, come on, don't don't mix me up. Don't
you know? He's fact funny? He is. Bernie Freddick. Can
hear him at the top of the hour. Also make
sure to follow him on Twitter at Bernie Freddo Bernie,
we appreciate your time. Will we listen to the top
of the hour? My friend, Hey man, you guys are fun.
If you ever worked together before, you're natural. He's something. Yeah,

(02:24:00):
more show I've done a long time burn, but you
spruce this thing up. Bernie Fredday. Can hear him at
the top of the hour. Uh, let's switch over. Let's
get to for the final time this evening. Our man
Steve di Seger with what's trending? What's up to Sager? Well,
let's talk NFL before we get to the college football.
Because coltwide receiver Michael Pittman is out for tomorrow at
Jacksonville with a quad injury, Titans running back Dontrell Hilliard

(02:24:24):
out for Monday Night at Buffalo with a hamstring injury.
And yes, we have two Monday Night games coming up
on the one starts at seven fifteen Eastern, Buffalo hosting
the Titans. The other game separate channel, is at eight
thirty Eastern with Philadelphia hosting the Vikings. Bill's wide receiver
Gabe Davis questionable limited in practice today with an ankle injury.

(02:24:46):
Saints running back Alvin Camara listed is questionable for the
home game against Tampa Bay with a rib injury, but
he's missed the last two practices. There's an Adam Schefter
report that Camara is out tomorrow. He does say Alan
Lazard should play. Packer wide receiver has been limited in
practice this week with a bad ankle. As for the
college football in Progress Number seven USC on Fox TV,

(02:25:10):
leading to start the fourth quarter thirty five seventeen against
Fresno State and the Trojans have first in goal. Meanwhile,
number fourteen Utah has beaten up San Diego State thirty
five to seven. The game at Iowa is not yet called.
They're in a third lightning delay. At the moment, the
earliest they can resume is the next ten to fifteen

(02:25:33):
minutes is seventeen nothing over. Nevada is still third quarter.
Is there any reason they can't call it? Is it
maybe Nevada refuses to let them call it? I mean,
what would be the reason? Would have to be agreed
to by the two parties, including the two athletic directors.
But if I'm Nevada and it's not a Sunday, you
know I'm there on the road. You're paying me to
be there, so be it. I still at the game.

(02:25:57):
That's what I want to know. The counter is you're
going to get the check either way. I mean, that
could be part of it here. Maybe yeah, that could
be part of it. Is if the game isn't finished,
then they don't get the check. That could be why.
I think there was a situation like that a few
years back where something happened and the team wouldn't get
the check unless the game was completed. And you better
believe that team. I forget who it was, but they

(02:26:17):
made him complete the way bets are off, the the
game has to go what fifty five minutes or fifty
seven minutes for it to be official, So no bets
are You're right. We're a third quarter with all three
lightning delays at Iowa tonight. Here it is after twelve
thirty Central time. Touchdown Trojan's extra point will make it
seventeen over Fresno State very early in the fourth quarter
on Fox. End of three quarters at Arizona. No, No,

(02:26:42):
it's Arizona. The Wildcats are losing it home to North
Dakota States. It's twenty four and Eastern Michigan is leading
at Arizona State in the third to fourteen. The late
game at Hawaii halftime home team up fourteen six over
du Quesne. Southern Illinois I one at Northwestern Syracuse Edge

(02:27:02):
per Due, Indiana needed overtime to beat Western Kentucky. Rutgers
won sixteen fourteen at Temple. The Temple starting quarterback was E. J. Warner,
son of Kurt Water one touchdown, one pick six. Also earlier,
we had Dominance in the top twenty five wins for Georgia,
Alabama and tonight Number three Ohio State seventy seven twenty
one over Toledo. This is how dominant. Buck Eys had

(02:27:24):
over seven hundred sixty yards of offense, eleven touchdowns, only
one penalty, and no turnovers. Number four Michigan got five
touchdown runs from Blake Corum and beat Connecticut fifty nine
nothing Yukon's at NC State next Saturday night. By the way,
Connecticut ten punts only six first downs. As far as
NC State rank, Wolfpeg beat Texas Tech four team Tech

(02:27:49):
with four turnovers. Clemson in Oklahoma with wins. Oklahoma State
in Kentucky had dominant victories. Arkansas ranked tenth, had to
come from behind to beat Missouri State. Washington pounded Number
eleven Michigan State Oregon all over b y U. Today,
Texas A and m beat Miami seventeen nine. Will repeat
that the Hurricanes had no touchdowns despite twenty seven first

(02:28:11):
downs and a couple of missfield goals. As well Tennessee
and Baylor with easy wins. Florida ranked eighteenth at South
Florida thirty one twenty eight a. South Florida had three turnovers,
including a pick six and Miss forty nine yard field
goal attempt at the end after a matched hold number nineteen,
Wake Forest a point better than Liberty thirty seven thirty
six is Wake stopped him on a two point try

(02:28:32):
which just over a minute ago. Wins for Old Miss
and Texas for pitt and Penn State number two Penn
State one at Auburn forty one twelve. NASCAR win for
Chris Busher. Easy boxing victory in Vegas for Canelo Alvarez,
unanimous decision. Cameron Smith leads the live golf event in
Chicago by two strokes. And we had a fifteen inning

(02:28:52):
ball game and there's more to it in Cleveland. That
was the second of a double header. They won the
first game five one over the Twin and Cleveland took
the nightcap seven six in fifteen That is the second
longest game by inning since they introduced that automatic runner
to start an extra inning at second base. Cleveland sending
Minnesota now to a record of seventy two and seventy three.

(02:29:14):
We may be able to say out loud that the
Twins are not going to the playoffs this year. Milwaukee
beat the Yankees Mets in Atlanta, each one. The bad
news for the brave second baseman Ozzie Albi's left with
a broken finger. St. Louis swept a double header from
the Reds. Back to you. Thank you, Steve de Sager.
This is Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Saturday eron Tores,
Arnie Spaniard taking me up to the top of the hour.

(02:29:37):
Bernie Fratto. Of course we'll follow us with the Bernie
Fratto Show. Alty really quick, let's get to a couple
of the other games. Uh, Sunday afternoon. This was supposed
to be the big one, then Dak Prescott got her
Cowboys traveling hosting. I should say the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals
about a touchdown favorite Bengals, as we just discussed a

(02:29:57):
minute ago, coming off the loss to Pittsburgh. Joe Burrow
for Uchta for interceptions zero point being he wasn't very good.
They're playing at Dallas. Dallas has a backup quarterback in
What do you make of this one? You know we
were doing the overreaction or knee jerk reaction after a
week number one. We should probably have gotten the Cowboys,

(02:30:17):
but there's no knee jerk reaction. It feels like the
season's over um even with even if Dak didn't go down,
you you were wondering about this team to begin with.
Now that he went down, you're like, oh my goodness.
I mean the offense didn't look good when he was
running in there with Tampa. Anyway, against Tampa, Now, what
are they gonna be without him? It just looks it
just feels like the whole thing is absolutely crumbling right now.

(02:30:41):
Uh for for the Cowboys, and it doesn't look like
it's gonna be a playoff, but I don't think Cooper
Rush could do it. So I think it's gonna be
all Cincinnati in this one. You know what's funny I
I thought of this with the Dak Prescott injury is
I'm not saying that he's happy about it, but Mike
McCarthy is gonna get a pass for this year man
like Nless. It's I mean, I guess in theory he

(02:31:02):
might not, but I think he's gonna get another year
because of the Dak Prescott injury. It's unbelievable. This guy,
you know, two years ago, Deck gets hurt. He you know,
nobody knows how bad he was. Last year. They make
the playoffs, but it's a disaster. Deck is hurt as
well Sunday night, Um, Arnie. I mean, I know that
the Bears are one and own. I know the Packers
are owing one. I don't think there's much of a

(02:31:24):
case for the Bears keeping it close. Do you think
there's any chance of the Bears keep this thing close? Yeah? Yeah,
I like the Bears plus the points. Um. I don't
think the Packers look good at all in their opening game.
They looked in disarray. Now I remember what happened to
him last year and how they bounced back, and I
just thought, so sure they're gonna bounce back this time strong.
They don't have the weapons like they did the last

(02:31:45):
year now that Davante Adams has gone. Chicago kind of
surprised me. I mean, they hung in there, pulled out
a gutty win against the San Francisco team that looked awful.
I know the weather had something to do with this,
but I'm not so sure that this might not be
a one score game and the Bears keep it close.
I kind of like the points in this one really
quick too. Monday night games, And by the way, what

(02:32:07):
is do do you know the story? I don't know
if I missed this story or why there's two Monday
night games in week two instead of week one. Do
we know why? And no, I'm not sure why they
put it in week two instead of the first week.
So I'm not sure why they decided to go ahead
and do that. Me neither. Tennessee. Buffalo um Tennessee. Of course,
coming off that loss to Arnie's New York Football Giants,
the Buffalo Bills have not played since the opening night

(02:32:29):
against the Rams. Buffalo a very heavy favorite in this one, Arnie, Listen,
I'm not a Ryan Tannehill guy. I'm not a Tennessee guy.
Feels like a few too many points to me. Derrick
Kenny did not have a very good game to start
things off, even after with the contract uh and the
more money only had eighty two yards. They did not
look good at matter of fact, that was one of
the worst losses a week number one is what that
happened to them against the New York Giants. Meanwhile, Buffalo

(02:32:51):
looked like a juggernaut. They look like the best team
in the NFL. So you know, as you mentioned, Buffalo
is a big ted point favorite. I'm not so sure. See,
this is the game that's probably that's Not's not gonna
be closed and I can see Buffalo winning this one
by three touchdowns. I don't think the Titans are gonna
be able to keep up with the Bills in this one,
really quick. Any final thoughts on the second Monday Night
game on Monday, Well, I mean, let's see what Minnesota

(02:33:13):
does as an encar. We know what Philadelphia could do,
but that was against Detroit. So I guess we're gonna
find out with the real real good team, please stay
it up. Was it Minnesota who had a good game
against maybe a average or just wasn't ready Green Bay team,
or was it Philadelphia against a Detroit team that people
kind of, you know, put a little bit high in

(02:33:34):
the pedestal. So I'm I'm gonna find that with a
real good team step forward, that's we'll find out. This game. Well,
I'll tell you the real good team is stepping forward
in Tucson. North Dakota State is driving up two kill
USC up forty two to seventeen. To say a real
quick to say Monday night football. They said last year
they didn't have it on the opening doubleheader. They instead

(02:33:56):
had it at the end of the season a Saturday
doubleheader and out they're keeping the end of season, and
they just staggered the start times and made it week two.
More important to them was putting it on two separate channels,
both owned by Disney. And the update on Iowa football.
The Iowa offense has not had the ball in four
hours and the game is still in the third quarter

(02:34:17):
in a third lightning delay of the period. Up seventeen.
Nothing on Nevada, but the teams are taking the field again.
There are a few fans in the stands. It has
to be a check thing. It has to be that
they don't get the check unless the game gets finished.
I know, we gotta get to break. I think it

(02:34:38):
was an I wanted to say it was a Nebraska
game early in the year FCS small school opponent, and
it was something like this where it just they kept delay, delay, delay,
and the team was like, we ain't leaving because we
don't get the check until the game goes final. So
my guests would be that that's probably what's going on.
But the Big ten announcers have stayed there. They have
resumed coverage, so we've got that late. We've got the

(02:34:59):
Arizona l on FS one. The Fox TV game still
has ten minutes left from USC. At this hour Saturday,
is still a lot going on. I know. Now we
just gotta get Hawaii back on TV. Is nobody wants
to send a crew out there anymore. They're playing still too,
So thank you to say your Fox Sports Radio, Fox
Sports Saturday. We have a field goal attempt in the
Nevada Iowa game right out of the break, so we'll

(02:35:22):
keep you updated on that. USC is rolling in North
Dakota State driving on Arizona coming up. We wrapped the show.
Give you our week two NFL picks. Aaron Tors, Arnie
Spanning your Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back everybody, Fox Sports Radio.
Aaron Torres, Arnie span you're taking you to the top
of the hour. Bernie Fratto will join us, will follow us.

(02:35:44):
Excuse me with the Bernie Fratto Show, Arnie. Yeah, let's
make some picks. You go first, my friend, you're the
guest tonight, So who you got Who's your best pick
of the week. I will go ahead and start at
the top. We didn't talk about the game. That's Judson
Cleveland and I really believe that. Well, first of all,
it doesn't make a difference who the quarterback is. It's

(02:36:05):
not gonna be exact Wilsons anyway, but the Jets are
just not a very good team. Cleveland proved that they
got it out a win. I think they do it
again this time, though it's a lot easier. I'll lay
the lumber. I think it's six en right now, but
whatever it is, it's under seven of that magic number.
Give me Cleveland minus six against the Jets. I'm gonna
take a game that I know that you feel the

(02:36:26):
opposite of. I actually do like New England is a
slight road favorite at Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh, as I've said many times,
barely survive against the Cincinnati Bengals, that is with Joe
Burrow throwing four interceptions. T J. Watt obviously will not
play in this game. I don't think New England's good.
I do think this is the right spot for them.
I like them as a slight favorite on the road. Uh.

(02:36:48):
You know what I really like is we talked about
Detroit gave up a thirty eight points to Philadelphia and
their home opener. I kind of like the over between
them in Washington. It's in forty eight and a half.
Detroit's defense is not very good, but they could score Also,
I think that one goes over pretty easily. Take the
over forty eight and a half in that one. Very good.
I'll keep it going. Um. Listen, Carolina at your New

(02:37:10):
York Football Giants, Arnie, I'll say this man is I'm
done with Baker Like I don't think he's an interesting story.
I think he's a fine quarterback. Whatever. I need to
see him win games that matter. He's on his second team.
The Browns got rid of him. I don't buy that
he is the fixing Carolina. I actually like your New
York Giants to improve to two and oh cover the

(02:37:32):
two points at home. Yeah, I'm taking the Giants. Also,
just for your information, SUPs, I'm taking Pittsburgh UM. One game.
We didn't talk about the Rams, of course, not impressive
in their opening game. The Falcons should have won UM,
but they went one slipped through their fingers. I think
ten and a half a little too much for the
second game of the year here. I know the Rams
are playing at home in Atlanta. Keeps it close. Give

(02:37:53):
me the ten and a half with the Falcons. Very good, Uh, Falcons, Rams,
you know I can't. I was gonna I was gonna
make a play on that one, but I don't really
like it. Uh, let's go to instead. We will go
to the late afternoon window. I'll tell you this, Arnie,
is it possible that I do like the Cowboys to
cover at home against the Bengals. Listen, you know sometimes

(02:38:17):
you gotta hold your nose on these. And I'll say
the Super Bowl hangover stuff is real. Joe Burrow is
not good last week. I think he'll be better. But
at home, everybody's given up on the Cowboys. I think
the Bengals win. I think the Cowboys keep it close,
all right. Moving on, Look, I already saw how bad
San Francisco looked in the opener against Chicago. And you

(02:38:37):
don't think Chicago is a very good team about. In fact,
a lot of people thought Chicago could have been the
worst team coming into the NFL this year. Seattle surprise
a lot of team with their game up against Denver.
But do those two together. I would have to take
the nine and a half points with Seattle. I think
that's just way too much for a game that they
might be able to win. Give me Seattle plus the
nine and a half. I have no really strong NFL picks,

(02:39:00):
aren't Do you have any other strong picks before. We
like the over Minnesota Philadelphia. We talked about how Philadelphia
put up thirty eight against Detroit. Minnesota certainly look good
moving their offense against a Green Bay defense. I kind
of like the over fifty one in that one. Also, Uh,
and I may take Arizona plus the six against Las Vegas.
I want to share kind of a quick story, aren't

(02:39:21):
before we get out of here? Brian Brez a player
for Clemson. He actually had a sister pass away from
cancer this week. Uh, Clemson play Louisiana Tech today. Just
seeing a report that Louisiana Tech every player on the
team wrope Bryan Brese a card, kind of a apology cards.

(02:39:43):
I wanted to share that story really quickly. Iowa is
still going on their usc at forty two to seventeen.
North Dakota State up twenty twenty four over the Arizona Wildcats.
Five minutes to go. We gotta get out of here.
Want to thank the crew, Steve de Seger, producer Bo
Don on the board for my partner Arnie Spanier. I

(02:40:03):
