Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Neil Savedra.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
You're listening to kfi EM six forty the four Report
on demand on the iHeartRadio app. We're all running around
like chickens with our heads cut off over here. It's
total chaos because you know what life happens. But I
appreciate you tuning in and hanging out with us today
until five o'clock. A great program stacked with a lot
of neat people. So thanks for hanging out. Right now,
(00:25):
I want to introduce you to somebody who I've primarily
communicated with via email. I think we probably have each
other's numbers as well, but I don't know that we've
ever chatted once or twice. Maybe her name is Shida Purat.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Is that okay? Excellent? And she's with Bargain Fair.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Bargain Fair is on Pico and Robertson in LA and
I have been going to it since I can remember
when it was in the Fairfax district on Fairfax. It
is one of the most beloved one off shop. This
is not a chain or anything like that. This is
(01:05):
owned by you. Correctly in you and your family and
staff run at right exactly explain to everybody what a
kitchen supply story is. I know it sounds simple, but
you have more things than most people would assume.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
So we started the business about forty five years ago.
My father started it and I joined about thirty years
ago helping came out and I'm still there.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
We do cater a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
To restaurants, caterings, event planners, households and any chefs and anyone.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Who loves to cook.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
We do have a plates glass where silverware, cookware, candles,
anything you need to bake, anything you need to entertain,
serving pieces. So we have attracted a lot of customers
from different of life, homes, parties, weddings, you just name it.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
And I know there's other change out there, and we
support everybody. You know, the community has enough for everyone.
But I love the longevity of Bargain Fair. It's beloved
and has been talked about in the food in food
and culinary circles for as long as I can remember,
long before I even started this show. And one of
the things I've talked about on the air many times,
(02:28):
and it comes up during the holidays. I've talked about
how you can go to Bargain Fair and the stoneware
there is it's all white, you know, you have a
lot of it. You have black and things like that.
But I said, it's so easy to replace. So I
have many of your plates and stemware and things like
(02:48):
that in my home, and if I break one, I
know I can get something that looks almost exactly like it,
so I never have to worry when we have Thanksgiving.
I have told people to go out there in the
LA area. You've got to check it out. If you
want to come for a day trip and go check
out parts of Los Angeles. Bargain Fair should be on
your list if you're a foodie or you're looking for
(03:09):
anything that deals with serving or gosh, anything like that.
So it's one of those places that I can I'm
like a kid. I can stay there all day and
look around at the different things you have. But I
was sad to hear that times have you know, after
forty five years or so, times have gotten tough. You
had to move out of your original location. They've pretty
(03:31):
much gutted that that street there in Fairfax.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Yes, they do you know what's going up there? Or
they were kind of having.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Everybody so apparently they were.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
They asked, they forced us to get out within a
very short period of time and they got it out.
They were supposed to make condos on the top and
retail at the bottom, but apparently they're having some problems.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Right yeah, because it's kind of left in it. It
looks like they've dug They've torn some things down. There
was a movie theater there that had been there for
a long time, the Marquee. I think I saw it
was still there.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
It's a landmark, so they had to keep the facade
of the building. But I think they found water underneath everything,
so they don't know what they have to do.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Oh wow, they should have stuck with bargain fair.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
I think it was. It was a huge move.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
It was very difficult to move all that items, ten
thousand items forever and we've been there forever, and to
set up a new space with new aisles where to
put things. But honestly, within twenty four hours to thirty
six hours the move was done.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
We're all set up.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
It's a new location and busier, more family oriented.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
We're happy to be there.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
But right now, I think with the economy and what's
going on, I think it's a little bit of a slowdown.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
I would say, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
And we've seen a lot of things going on with
restaurants and the like as well, so that's part of
your business as well. We come back, we'll talk more,
because not only do if you've been incredibly sweet to
me anytime I've needed anything, and long even before I
had this show, that I would go in there for
things for my family because I have a big family,
(05:18):
and you do Thanksgiving at my house, and I trust me,
I'm going to need four gravy boats and you know,
twenty four plates and everything else, and I could just
in one stop get everything in one location. We of course,
we're talking about bargain Fair, and we're talking with Shida
Parat Parat there at bargain Fair and we'll come back
(05:39):
and talk more with her. You can find out more
at its bargainfair dot com. Right okay, I'm trying to
make sure that it doesn't have any spaces or anything.
Just Bargainfair dot com, Bargainfair dot com and bargain Fair
Underscore La on Instagram. Bargain Fair Underscore La on Instagram.
(06:01):
They are a worthy follower, follow to follow and check
them out. We'll talk more when we come back.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
You're listening to the Fork Report with Nil Savedra. On
demand from KFI AM six forty.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Neil Savadra here with you on the Fork Report, and
I'm talking to someone you should know. If you love
cooking at home, you have a restaurant. If you're a bartender,
you should know Shaida. Shaida is with Bargain Fairs. It's
family owned and operated. They're on Pico and Robertson in
Los Angeles. You can find them on social media. Go
(06:35):
to bargain Fair Underscore La, Bargain Fair Underscore La, and
they're a kitchen and restaurant supply place. But I will
tell you that when you go, you're going to be
addicted for for one, because I've taken many friends there,
bartender friends, chefs. If you don't know about it, you
(06:57):
got to find out about it. And if you're a
chef that does know about it, let people know that
they've moved. Their bargain Fair is now on Robertson, Robertson
and Pico and it's the same great place with all
the great buys. You will freak out at the true bargains,
no pun intended. And so I was really bummed to
(07:19):
hear that the move that was forced from your original location.
You've been around for over forty years. It's really bummed
to hear that things were getting a little tough. So
I am from the mountaintops screaming that you've got to
learn about bargain Fair.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
With the holidays coming.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Up, you want to be able to get inexpensive flatware,
your plates.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Anything like that. It is so great.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
And sometimes when I feel like, oh, I want to
cook Asian tonight, I look around, I'm like, I don't
want to put it on a round plate. I want
to put it in a triangle dish or a square dish.
I know I can go to bargain Fair and find
those things. So that's my soap box about the service
that I've received from Shada, the love that I received
(08:09):
and attentiveness there. You know, what do you want to highlight?
What do you want to tell people about bargain Fair.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Bargain Fair is a small store with over ten thousand items.
You can do all your shopping within twenty minutes under
one roof. If you need cookware, you need plates, you
need that special wine glass romantic dinner. We have wine
(08:45):
glasses from dollar ninety nine. We have wine glasses twenty dollars.
A piece of fancy you want to be or how basic.
You can always find anything you need at bargain Fair.
We are a small store, a few number of people
working there, but we give all our love, as Nil says,
and attention to the customer and we want to make
(09:07):
their event special.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
And for me, you always have and something I know
we're coming out of summer quote unquote, because it's always
summer in southern California. One of the things that I
love is melomine or acrylic or they have and it
blows people away all the time. If I'm serving people
in your acrylic glasses, whether I'm serving a drink up
(09:29):
in a cocktail, is serving it in a cocktail glass
or serving it up in a martini glass or something.
And then they lift it up and they go, oh,
this isn't glass. I go, no, it's a crylic. Because
we're out by the pool and stuff. I don't want
it to break. The different supplies and things you have.
People may not think about, but when they go there,
they'll go, oh, my gosh, this will be great by
the pool. Looks like glass, but it's not going to
(09:52):
break and it's not going to cause any problems. Or
just in the yard and things like that. So I
know we only had a limited time today, but I
I just wanted to make sure that people learned about
who you guys are.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Again.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Bargain Fair underscore La on Instagram is where you will
find them. As far as finding I mean, anybody that
knows Los Angeles in the restaurant scene has heard of
bargain Fair. The thing is, we can't let them fall
by the wayside. It's one thing, you know, because then
we hear, oh they're no longer around anymore. Oh I
(10:27):
love them. Yeah, Well, when was the last time you
spent your money there? When is the last time you
went in popped your head in to look for something?
And it's Bargainfair dot com, Bargainfair dot com, bargainfair dot com.
Please check them out and when you go see them,
it's not a paid ad or anything. Just tell them
that you heard her on the show on the station
(10:49):
and that you're there to support her. Because I got
to tell you, even if you don't buy anything, even
if you walk through and just check it out, businesses,
especially small businesses, love to know that you're out there
just supporting them. And if it's just a look and
see if there's something you need, I will tell you.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Uh, it's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I've found things like when I'm doing buffet style, you
have the little buffet note hard card holders that you
can have waited and you can put though this is
you know, goolash or whatever it did. So there's there's
just so much there and I really wish you the best.
You and I have communicated for a long time.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I am very honored and humbled by being a guest
on your show.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Let's not make it so long in between. And and
that's they will treat you right. You say that you
heard about it here on KFI. They will treat you right.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Thanks so much. And it's a pleasure to meet your
son as well. Handsome kid.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Look at that, thank you.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
He looks like trouble. No, not really, lock lock up
the ladies all righty, But good to see you. Thank
you so much, my friend.
