In this episode of Accelerated Health with Sara Banta, I uncover the truth about colon cleansing—a wellness trend that’s been around for thousands of years but is now making a major comeback.

Many people swear by colon cleanses for better digestion, less bloating, clearer skin, more energy, and even a stronger immune system. But here’s the reality: not all colon cleanses are safe or effective.

While some methods can truly reset your gut and support your body’s natural detox pathways, others may actually do more harm than good if done incorrectly. In this episode, I break down what colon cleansing really does for your body, the myths versus the science, and how to support your digestive health naturally without gimmicks or risks.

If you’ve ever wondered whether a colon cleanse could transform your health or if it’s just another wellness fad, this episode will give you the clarity you need to make the right decision for your body.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Are you pooping two to three times a day like
you're supposed to? If not, you might want to tune
in to what we're talking about today. Welcome to Accelerated
Health with Sarah Banta, where I cut through the noise
and fast track your journey to better health. I'm your host,
CEO and founder of Accelerated Health Products and certified by
the National Association of Nutritional Professionals. I'm here to share

(00:54):
the latest unsupplements, wellness hacks, and natural health solutions that
actually work, from boosting energy to detoxing to balancing your
hormones and pooping and I will help you reach your
optimal health. So let's dive in, let's zoom out, and
take a moment to think about our overall health. We

(01:16):
always talk about the foundation of our health is our gut.
Your gut health is the foundation of the whole health picture.
When I hit my rock bottom, I had no digestion.
Food was rotting in my stomach. I was going through it,
from constipation to diarrhea. I felt like I was pregnant
when I wasn't pregnant. My hair was falling out, my

(01:38):
skin was breaking out. Everything your gut influences your immune system,
your hormones, your mood. You're thyroid, how clearly you think
if you're not pooping, you literally have poop in your brain. Why,
because you're recycling the toxins. All of that waste that's
supposed to get out of the body is just sitting there,

(02:00):
hardening against those walls and then being reabsorbed. So not
only are you taking in new toxins that we talk
about all the time, but you're reabsorbing the old ones
that your body says, I'm ready to get this out.
And at the center of the system. Some something most
people never hear about in school is your got microbiome.

(02:20):
This is a vast university of trillions, yes, trillions, of
microscopic organisms living in your intestines. Bacteria, fungi, viruses. They're
all supposed to be there working together. I call it
the sandbox. They kind of play nice in the sandbox
until the bad guys overpopulate and take over the good guys.

(02:44):
That's why we want to keep it nice play right.
This is where you digest your food, you absorb your nutrients,
You regulate inflammation throughout the body, protecting against all those pathogens.
I've talked about my issue with the pairs sites. In
the last year, things went awry and I had the

(03:04):
bad guys take over the good guys. You don't think
that I had issues with constipation and bowel movements. Yeah,
I had stuff coming out of my skin because my
liver was overloaded, and then the toxins didn't know where
to go, so they had to come out of my skin.
So it affects everything. And it even is where we

(03:25):
manufacture our serotonin and our dopamine. And guess what likes serotonin,
those parasites, so they will eat it up, making you
more depressed. So here you're reaching for your antidepressants or
anti anxiety medication. You might just need a good clean
fix for cleaning out that colon. So this is why

(03:47):
we call the gut the second brain. It literally talks
to your nervous system. I've talked to Kieran Krishnan on
the podcast multiple times. Doctor Nathan Bryan. We touch on
it leaky gut. If you have not educated yourself on
gut health, go back and listen to those podcasts and
read the articles at Sarah Bantae health dot com. I

(04:08):
have so many why because this is my passion, this
is what I started with, where I was hitting rock bottom.
I could not figure it out. I literally will tell
people that if I've pooped, my day's amazing, right, And
if I haven't, it isn't because you feel stuck. Because

(04:29):
when you're constipated, it can back up your limph. You
can get swollen fingers, you can't take your rings off,
your ankles look fat, you're not digesting your food. You
feel full all the time, even if your stomach's empty
and you haven't eaten. There's a lot that goes on
when you're constipated or have had a movement. I even

(04:50):
feel my metabolism speed up when I've pooped. I know
this is all getting a little TMI, but I feel
like we need to talk about it. I had someone
contact me this week saying I need help. I haven't
pooped in a week, and I said, okay, I want
you to take these supplements. Let me know how it
goes tomorrow morning. Okay, there was a little movement. We're

(05:13):
getting there. Let's increase the dosage. And then I said,
I want to see you pooping at least twice a day,
and they said, what, I normally poop every four days.
Think about babies, they eat, they poop, they eat the poop.
That is what the system is supposed to do. And
so just because you're older doesn't mean that you're not

(05:33):
supposed to do that. So the fuel for these beneficial
bacteria in your gut are not found in sugar, fried foods,
artificial sweeteners, the processed foods that make up seventy percent
of your diet. It's found in the fiber rich food
things like the wild vegetables, berries, resistant starches, prebiotic fibers,

(05:56):
but foods that are on the Accelerated Food Guide because
there are a lot of fibrous vegetables that seem healthy
and they could actually trip up your detox pathways and
make you more constipated and bloated. Have you ever felt
bloated after having a healthy grain drink, Well, it's probably
full of oxalates and sulfur vegetables. These things cause gut inflammation.

(06:22):
Slow thyroid, brain fog, a whole bunch of other things.
They can actually back up the liver, and the liver
is a very important part of your digestive system. Everyone thinks, oh,
I'll just take some laxative to get the poop moving,
or I'll do a kolonic, but you actually need to
start with the liver too, because if your liver doesn't

(06:43):
have the right bile, which is the detergent soap to
emulsify the fats and get it out, things might get
a little stuck. So if you starve the good bacteria,
they start to die off and the bad guys move in,
and this imbalance is called dysbiosis. And this is where

(07:05):
you might feel the bloating food sensitivities when you didn't
have them before, brain fogs, skin breakouts, constipation, joint pain
that could be related to the oxalates and the good
healthy foods you're eating, like the nuts and the berries
and the kale and the spinach tumeric. I know they're

(07:26):
supposed to help right anxiety and even autoimmune flares. So
this is where you want to get reset or a
colon cleanse. But here's what you need to understand. Not
all colon cleanses are created equal. Like every other topic
we talk about, supplements out there are not created equal.

(07:47):
You don't know what you're getting sometimes. Colon cleansing is
not a new idea. In fact, it dates back to
ancient Egyptians and it's been practiced in different cultures for centuries.
There's a lot of different options. Number One klonic hydrotherapy.
I've done this and it works. This involves pumping warm water,

(08:10):
sometimes with herbs or probiotics or even coffee into your
colon with a tube instirted in your rectum. And this
can be done using a closed system where the technician
controls the water pressure coming in and out, or an
open system. This is where your own body is hitting

(08:31):
that point where I need to evacuate, I need to release,
and this if you're going to do colonics, this is
the system I recommend. Closed systems can actually make you
lose that peristalsis action in your colon. And I know
a lot of people have done these over and over
and over again. Now they can't poop on their own

(08:54):
and that becomes a problem. With the open system, the
muscles in there are getting extra size light just like
you go to a gym, and it can help your
own system learn how to poop again. So this is
an upgrade, right. It gives you also more privacy. The

(09:14):
technician doesn't necessarily have to be there. It's more controlled,
more comfortable. You lie back, you let gravity do its thing, right, Okay,
So that's one option. Now to say that I used
to do them, I have not done them in a
couple of years because of the things we're going to

(09:35):
talk about down the road in a minute, I haven't
needed to. You also have option number two, where you
do enemas at home, and you can get these at
home enema kits. They're mini cleanses. You can use herbal tease, saline, coffee, salt,
or even goat soap in them. They're more localized, clearing

(09:59):
the lowering colon rather than the full large intestine. They
can help in a pinch, especially for short term constipation,
but again not meant to be a weekly habit. And
I would love your feedback on this. Do you find
them so that they actually make it worse for you
to poop on your own regularly or better when you're

(10:22):
fully constipated, like someone who hasn't gone to the bathroom
in a week. You kind of need to get that
initial push or the plug unplugged, and then the rest
will come. So that is an instance where you could
use this. Now, using accelerated ancient salt in an enema

(10:43):
is very helpful because there are things called salt flushes
where you just take a whole bunch of unrefined salt
orally and it will actually induce bowel movements. If you're
dehydrated from drinking too much water without electrolytes, that can
be a cause of constipation. Then number three, you've got

(11:04):
supplement based colon cleanses. These are the most common and
often include ingredients like cascara segrata or senna. These are
natural stimulant laxative cilium husk. Now, this is something that
bulks up the stool. Cilium husk does not work for me.
It actually makes me more constipated, But a lot of

(11:26):
people love it and they feel better and bigger bowel movements,
so that is an individualized supplement. These work together by
stimulating the peristalsis the muscle contractions that move the food
through the colon, bulk up the stool, make it easier

(11:46):
to pass. They don't repair the gutlining. They don't help deliver,
and they certainly do not fix the dys biosis, so
they're very temporary. We want to get to the to
the problem. We want you pooping on your own, nice
good poops that are easy that you're not obsessed over.

(12:10):
Am I pooping before I go out for my day?
I feel sick because I haven't gone to the bathroom today.
All those things. We want to get those thoughts out
of your brain because you don't want the poop in
your brain. So a lot of these claims from the
cleanses say, oh, I'm gonna flush out the toxins, boost
your energy overnight, jump start your metabolism, heal your skin

(12:33):
and your hormones. You're bloating all in three days. That
all comes down to your liver. People. You got to
cleanse your liver and love on your liver because remember
that is the beginning part of this whole digestive system,
to get the toxins out. If your skin's breaking out,
it's because your liver's overloaded. That's your detox organ and

(12:55):
the biggest detox organ is your skin. So if your
liver says i'm skin, you got to come in you're
going to see roseatia and at me and things coming
out of your skin. So you want to love on
your liver first. But I get it, you're hearing about
all of these. It's seductive. You want to get more energy,
you want to feel like you've lost weight, all those things.

(13:19):
It's not fat weight you're losing. It is affecting your
nutritional absorption. But you got to fix your gut, got
to get rid of the dysbiosis. You do have the liver,
the kidneys, the limph and the colon. They all work
together every single day, not just the colon. You cannot
separate it. But saying that you want to clean the

(13:41):
lower pipes before you clean the upper pipes. You want
to make sure you're pooping before you do a liver flush.
You can start cleansing the liver, but you've got to
address the gut and the colon all together. So with
the aggressive colon cleanses, they don't dress the root causes,
and worse, they can strip away your good bacteria along

(14:05):
with the waste if you do them too often, So
this is where we want to be careful. They can
lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalances disrupt the hormone clearance
and in some cases increase the risk of gut infections.
So what do we do instead? Number One, start with

(14:25):
real food, real fiber, real hydration. And you think fermented food,
but sometimes those fermented food And this kills me because
I love the taste of kombucha. I used to eat
sauerkraut all the time and I loved it, and I
ignored the fact that it made me bloated right away.
Oh well, it's okay, it's supposed to be good for you.

(14:46):
Those things can actually populate your gut with too much
of the wrong bacteria. But you need the hydration, intracellular
hydration that comes from water and salt. That's where accelerated
ancient salt comes from. But too much fiber, if you're constipated,
could back you up even more. So fiber is that

(15:06):
too little, too much Goldilocks scenario. You want to be
careful and assess where are you with your constipation issues.
If you're constipated, be careful having too much of that
fiber move your body that lymphatic drainage. I know we're
not supposed to do chronic cardio, but going on a

(15:28):
little bit of a jog can help your bowel movements.
Walking after your meals like that. It is magic for me.
Getting on a vibration machine, getting on a trampoline, I
use those all the time. Get sleep. This is when
your body clears those endo toxins, repairs the gut lining,
and rebuilds the hormones. And if you're stressed out, we

(15:52):
call it anal retentive for a reason. Do you know
those kids that get out of their diapers and they'll
act actually urinate in the toilet first when they're potty trained,
but they'll hold under their poop. They tend to be
anally retentive people for the rest of their life. Does
stress ever give you diarrhea or make you constipated? Makes

(16:14):
me constipated. There's a reason. It's part of your nervous system.
So the sleep also helps with your nervous system. Stress.
You need to do some stress management. Walking helps with
the stress. Maybe that's part of the reason it helps,
But it also helps with the lymphatic movement, and that

(16:35):
will help with that. Peristalsis in the colon, reducing toxic
exposures from the seed oils to the ems to the
tap water. Your gut is under attack. We've talked about
that clean your terrain. So we've got to address the
microbio and we can do a multi phase supplement protocol

(17:00):
all the one that I'm going to talk to you
about that can help bind and eliminate the toxins, re
steal the gut lining, reset the healthy gut flora, support
that bile flow and liver function super important, and restore
the smooth natural vowel movements without dependency or irritation. So
number one step number one is the accelerated cellular detox powder.

(17:24):
We call it the gut Superhero. If you drank that night,
or if you've had food poisoning, or if you're traveling
and you don't know what you just ate, this is
a must at night. I take it daily to sop
up the heavy metals, the toxins that I don't even
know I'm getting, even from my organic food when I'm

(17:45):
at home. It helps with it's with binders with the
following ingredients. Micronize theolite. This targets the heavy metals like mercury, lead,
aluminum plus fluoride, and broaminge Zeolite's honeycomb structure binds positive
ions with a net negative charge, getting them out. Titisin.

(18:09):
I love this. It's unlike charcoal. Titasin doesn't bind essential minerals.
It is a fiber that grabs the mold, toxins, the pesticides.
It also grabs the excess dietary fat that you just
ate and cholesterol. It gets them out of your body.
It's great for Candida cebo micotoxin exposure. Trifila this is

(18:33):
an aravetic herb that supports the gut tone peristalsis natural cleansing.
It's not a stimulant. It helps retrain your colon. A
lot of people take Trifla on its own because of
its power. Dimonitatious earth breaks apart biofilms, those sticky coal

(18:53):
colonies where the bad bacteria and the parasites hide. I
had to go through this, guys. Those parasites are nasty
and the bilefilm is a big part of it. It
protects them. It makes it so your immune system can't
get to them. Dimitatious earth goes after that. Then we
do put activated charcoal in it that absorbs the gases
and chemicals. It's excellent for food poisoning and bloating and

(19:17):
then slippery coasts. The intestinal lining reduces inflammation where while
the other binders work. I use one to two tablespoons
a night. It's tasteless, non stimulant gentle on the system.
It is a daily detoxifier, and we're releasing toxins from

(19:39):
the accelerated or accelerating iodine some other supplements, so we
need to get the toxins out. It binds up those
toxins that you're releasing from the accelerated liver care. We
need to address our liver right, but we don't want
those die off symptoms, so we bind them up and

(19:59):
we get them out of the body quickly with the
accelerated cellular detox powder. Step two, the accelerated leaky gut bundle.
This is a trio. The megaspore biotic. This is a
spore based probiotic, which means it survives the stomach acid
and colonizes where it matters the small and large intestine,

(20:20):
and it goes down in there. It finds what you need,
what you don't need, and it will individualize what it
does for you versus me. That is what's so great
about it. But then it's paired with the megapre. So
megapre is there to feed the good bacteria from the megaspore.

(20:41):
Megapre only feeds the beneficial keystones, not any of the
bad ones. It increases short chain fatty acid production, especially butyrate,
which is a post biotic. And you can also get
that with the tributorin X and that is very helpful
with that concent to patient diarrhea situation as well. The

(21:04):
third one is the megamucosa. By the way, megapre megamucosa
tastes great, so you're gonna love drinking them. Drink them
all day long, with food, without food, whatever you want
to do. This is the only product that helps the
musin building amino acids. These immunoglobulins, buying toxins, neutralized pathogens.

(21:24):
They build up that gut lining that is the cause
of leaky gut. So it's literally building up and repairing
the leaky gut. So these three together are restoring your terrain,
resealing the tight junctions, supporting your immune system. And then
number three step three, this is accelerated liver care. This

(21:47):
is a game changer for me. I will not go
without this and my accelerated detox powder you cannot cleanse
the colon effectively without addressing the liver. It's the top
of the pipe, right. We want to unplug the bottom
of the pipe and get pooping, but we got to
start at the top. And this is your bioflow activator.

(22:09):
It helps balance your hormones that phase one into detox,
all without sulfur or oxalate ingredients which are in a
lot of other liver supplements. A lot of liver supplements
put in glued to thion and nac dandelion. Those three
also have sulfur or oxalates that could actually back up

(22:32):
your liver, and we're supposed to be helping our liver.
The key ingredients in the accelerated Liver care tud cut
you may have heard of it, a bio acid that
improves that bioflow, breaks down the sludge and supports the
mitochondrial membranes, especially in the brain and the nerves. Milk
thistle that increases your own glue to thion, supports liver

(22:54):
cell regeneration, Cooke d and gold coin. These are aravetic
herbs for fatty liver, and over fifty percent of you
have fatty liver disease. I don't care if you're an
alcoholic or not. It is now across all adults and
twenty five percent of our children. It has eclipta and
philanthus these support bile thinning, immune modulation and getting rid

(23:17):
of those viruses. It's great for epstein bar cmb hepatitis.
And this supplement does not have that DIM, which is
those cruciferous vegetables right the broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage. Those are
sulfur based vegetables and concentrated in DIM, which backs up

(23:39):
your liver for most people. So you pair this with
the detox powder, the toxins will flow and be out
of your body and then rebuilding your gut with the
leaky gut bundle. Okay, so step four we got to
get pooping. There's options here. You've got the oxy powder.

(23:59):
This is an an ozonated magnesium to slowly release oxygen
into the colon, soften the old ways, stimulate the peristalsis,
break apart any anaerobic sticky sledge and get it out.
We use this in the liver flesh cleanse on that
last day where you're supposed to create diarrhea to get
all of the gallstones out of your body. But you

(24:22):
can't take it on a daily basis for that constipation.
It is not habit forming and it does not overstimulate
the nerves. It's gentle, and magnesium in general can help
soften the stools. Now that it's important to know that
even though this is a magnesium it is not meant
to be taken as a magnesium supplement. It does not

(24:44):
give your body the amount of magnesium it needs. You
want to be focused on magnesium Breakthrough, which have all
seven types of magnesium in it for that purpose, and
magnesium Breakthrough can help with the constipation as well, so
you get this queer quick reset during a cleanse. It
supports the elimination without the binders. So start with two, three,

(25:07):
four capsules and as you are going. If it doesn't
work that and produce a good, healthy bowel movement the
next morning, increase the dose and then increase the dose.
Once you have that big, massive bowel movement that got unstuck,
you probably are able to back off the dosage. The

(25:30):
next one that is an option is laxic comfort, and
some people like to combine a little bit of the
lax of comfort with the oxypowder. This is a game
changer for anyone who suffers from constipation for their whole lives.
When people come to me saying Sarah, I've tried everything
for my constipation, I say, you haven't tried laxa comfort.

(25:52):
This will help produce that bowel movement and it does
it very quickly, And like with the oxy powder, you
just increase until you get what you need. Okay, now
we need to talk about your daily habits. This is important.
You don't just drink water, you drink it with minerals.
Increase that accelerated ancient salt on your food, in your water,

(26:16):
in your pre workout drinks, put it in your coffee,
tastes grape. It has no microplastics, it's scalar enhanced, and
it has over sixty trace minerals. But salt is known
to increase that peristalsis and to help with flushing out
the colon. Next, you want to move. If you're set

(26:38):
in tary, your body's set interary, your bowels are set
in tary. Get on a rebounder, get on a vibration machine, walking, yoga,
dry brushing, jumpstart your lymphatic and it will jumpstart your
GI system. Sleep super important. Your gutlining rebuilds at night,
aim for that seven to nine hours you need it,

(27:00):
and it also is going to help with your hunger
hormones and your muscle building and your diet and your
fat loss. You gotta sleep. Avoid the gut triggers. Those
healthy oxalates. The sulfur foods, so the oxalates once again. Almonds, spinach,
those are the worst offenders. Tumberic dandelion, You've got most

(27:21):
berries and most nuts. Those are in that category as well.
Kale is not just oxalates, but it's also sulfur. Sulfur
foods are the cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, garlic. Take no
if you get bloated when you eat any of these foods,
that means you probably should stay away from the whole category.

(27:43):
Stay away from the seed oils. They inflame the colon
and they stain your system for over a year. They
impair the liver detox. You can use the Accelerated Food
Guide to list out the foods that are not oxalate,
not luctins, not sulfur. All the foods that you want
to focus on and make sure you're managing your stress.

(28:05):
Soper easy to talk about, but I know it's harder
to do. Cortisol and gut inflammation go hand in hand.
Using breath prayer, grounding that walking after meals that down,
regulates your nervous system and will actually help you poop.
So believe me, I'm the first person to say, if

(28:27):
you're not pooping, life is miserable. So you got to
get pooping. Comment below let me know. Are you going
once twice three times a day or is it more
like once a week. I'd love to know, and I'm
