Welcome to outdoors people with me.Cw Getz and her Maya mar Zaki.
Good evening. It's Wednesday, Decemberthirteenth, twenty twenty three. We've
(00:53):
got a you know, it's thatterrible, but it's still on the little
chili side. Thirty eight degrees.I'm such when it comes to winter.
Thirty eight degrees fahrenheit and sunny, sunny outside. Where you got that going?
That equates to three degrees in onthe celia. So let me try
that, ne English Celsius. Yeah, what do you got down there in
(01:15):
San Polo in Medicana, Brazil?I know that's not a very Brazilian an
accent. But so we are morelike twenty tree more than degrees than you.
So here it is twenty six degreescelsius and it means for you seven
to nine degrees fahrenheit. Is thathot for you or no? You think
(01:41):
that's hot? It's kind of hot. Yes, really, I mean I
think that's ideal. That's like myideal temperature. Of course, humidity matters,
you know. I don't know, you've probably got a lot of that
going on. Oh yeah, yes, for sure, you always feel like
melting melting. Yeah, No,it's okay if you're in a pair of
shorts in the tank top or somethinglike that or you know. Yeah,
(02:04):
but if you're in regular clothes youhave to wear them. Yeah, I
can imagine that's not comfortable. Yes, it's not my clothes when I'm working,
so I need to wear pants andyou know, like shoes. So
it is too hot for me forsure. Yeah. And that's the weather
that the underwear starts sticking in placesyou don't want to do, so that
Yeah, that's uncomfortable. I understandthat. Yeah, so you're like,
(02:28):
what and look at it. Icould just see wand back there in the
control room just going oh, mygod, why does he do that?
Right? You know what you makeme? Remember the day we were in
the drug star in Aruba and youwere as keen a in sanny screen for
the guy who works there. Youremember, Yeah, the chest was war
(02:53):
no roomy chest was out read becauseof the sun. Yeah. We stopped
in some drug store and just they'llnever forget us. I don't think as
I made an idiot out of myself. I usually do. That's usually what
I do wherever where I go,make an idiot yourself. Remember you comes
that guy again. Yeah, butwe had a fun time just the same.
(03:16):
So yeah, yeah, and thatwas really good suntand otion, I
might add, so it really was. It was a local brand with followed
that yeah. Yeah, but hadall kinds of stuff like maybe a whole
oil or something. I mean itwas only like three hundred and forty dollars
I think for that little tube ofyou know, it was pretty expensive.
(03:36):
I made that up, but itwas expensive, it was sure, Yes,
I think it was thirty some dollarsfor that. So they are very
proud of their own products, forsure. Somebody was proud of it.
Yeah, either the store or whoevermade it, because it was, but
it was good stuff. It didn'tcome off in the ocean like most of
the stuff. So yeah, well, uh so let's just zoom right into
(03:59):
this show, this last show ofthe season, So let's go straight into
it. Tonight's episode of Outdoors Peopleis brought to you by Rudabaga Panel Sports
providing time on the water, byKem Grund Views making campaign easier, by
the Luthpack made in the USA sinceeighteen eighty two, and by Jackson Kayakers,
(04:19):
so we enjoy it through pedal Sports. Tonight's episode is reflecting on twenty
twenty three with our special guest MayaMarzaki. Usually that's right and leave that
welcome, see doublin Maya. Yeah, tonight, kids were We're just gonna
wing it ourselves. And you know, the fun part about this is we've
(04:41):
got some I think, you know, because I picked these out, some
fun photos that we yeah, wehave collectively and try at English, collectively
from yeah, from this year. You know, a couple of trips Maya
made here. Well, no onetrip you made here in one? Two
where do Aruba? That's right,But first we you know, and we
(05:06):
kind of I have to ask you. There's a couple of questions here that
I would just like to know, and I know you've got a couple from
me, and and I think, well, we'll start with we'll start with
this one, and I think thiscould be an easy two parter. But
I'll just ask you, what ifyour what have been your favorite episodes that
(05:27):
we did this year? I meanI like all of them. I mean,
or we wouldn't have done them, but there are certain ones that stand
out a little bit. Yes,for sure, it's going it's going too
hard. It's going to be hardto answer that question because I love it
all of the shows, and I'mnot making that up. But I have
a few that I can highlight.Of course, Arubas and Lous episode Yeah
(05:56):
five because we were traveling. Weare have fun and working hard for sure,
and it was a great experience. So there's no doubt that they are
my two favorites. But I,of course I do have many. For
example, Cliff Jack Jackson Show becausehe's my hero. I love that,
(06:19):
I love that you love it meetingin person and his wife Sue and I
have more shows, actually can Ican? I this is your show man.
You can do anything you want. You love that I know. It's
great. Yeah, that's my timeto speak. It's you got the whole
(06:44):
freaking you're broadcasting over the world rightnow and it's your show. So yeah,
there you go, a rock star. Do it? Do it?
Man? Love it? So Ilove it alone the I think it's like
the last show we did, thegirl who stayed for like forty five or
something days alone. Oh, Meganhanda check Yeahgan, yes, Megan yeah
(07:10):
from Canada. Yeah, yes, from business suits to baffing suits with Stephanie.
That was a cool, great job. And then now she's leaving a
boat traveling the world. That's socool. That's so cool. That's something
I would love to do in mylife. Yeah. That was a great
episode, right, such a nicestory and nice girl and the two High
(07:39):
It's leg Line and High High Lineswith Jenda Haigily and just Sallow mcloy.
They are just so nice, funand sweet. I love it both off
shows. They're like girls I wantto be friends, and they really are
amazing people and ladies man, Imean very very talented, very talented.
(08:03):
So yeah, yeah, and sois going talkachi fun. I love it
talk to both of them. Mountaineeringof course with Lucy and with any the
younger one and then the oh thetone. Yeah, yeah, of course
Montaineering is going to be my favorite. Yes, right down your alley,
(08:26):
right down your alley. I lovethat, right and California is take Border
with Valerie love Forge. She wasso nice as well. I miss her.
I love that show. She messsomeone I want to be friends as
well, right right, very cool. And with lindsen biha Beida. She
(08:50):
she she is just so smart,Like I got afraid of how smart she
was. It is the one.Really, she's so smart. I love
it. I love it. Rememberit is this, It is the one
that she she's a neural yeah, neuroscience. Yeah, and actually what is
(09:11):
that neuroscience meets something here where myrosciencemeets the outdoors. Yes, that's exactly
what it was. Yeah, right, and I love it. Her job
weave free diving. Yeah I can't. I tried to, you know,
I've had little nightmares about that, running out of air free diving underwater.
(09:33):
It's just kind of a it's alittle phobia. Really, yeah, my
god, yeah, I can't.I almost drowned several times in my life,
so I think that's probably has somethingto do with it. Yeah,
and every time it was my fault. It was nothing that you know,
some stupid Absolutely, I'm an idiot. I don't just say that, I
mean that. I mean I'm areally an idiot because I do stupid things
(09:56):
knowing better. It's one thing ifyou don't know any better and you're just
uninformed, okay, your naive.A true idiot does things knowing how dangerous
or how stupid they are, andthey do anyway, right, you know,
but he is too choosing and youdo and you know, really giving
(10:18):
damn. But yeah, that's exactlywe get along, right, Well,
yeah, probably is probably is howdo you spell idiot? You know that's
kind of a but yeah, anotherone, how how do you spell freedom?
I love it at you? Ilove it so much? Yeah that
was that was you know what menasericson. Yeah. Yeah, in fact,
(10:41):
we had so much. I hadso much fun there. She is
just a blast, and her storyis something else to you know, really
coming from where she came from andovercoming a lot, right, I think
everyone can kar learned from her history, what from what she did, and
she what she achieved. So nice. Yeah, and what an amazing personality
(11:03):
too, you know, terming personality, I should say. Yeah. I
mean, we've had some really fascinatingguests, you know on the show.
We've been blessed with that. We'veonly been stood up maybe twice. I
call it stood up. People justdecided not to show up, or maybe
at the last minute they said,I got a pizza comment. I can't.
(11:26):
I don't know, but I don't. I don't blame those people at
all. That's fine. I willdo the same. What's on the pizza?
It depends what you got coming.I mean, you know, Pepperoni.
I'm like, you know, reallyI feel cheated, but if you
got the supreme, especially the almostseafood and yeah, wow, but your
(11:50):
turn and tell me what have yourSorry, I forgot my English. I
will try again. Okay, Ido that a lot, trust me.
Fin daily. Oh go ahead, your favorite episode that we're broadcast. Wait,
(12:11):
say that again? My favorite way? Your favorite show? Well,
my favorite oh episode? Okay,I'm sorry. Well, you know,
I've got a few. I'm justgonna mention some of them, I really
think, and one of them thatI was really like, oh wow,
I got her in the show andshe really is the rock star celebrity worldwide
(12:33):
people know her, you know whoI don't know. Yeah, you love
her so much? Yeah, exactly, Kim Alexis. And interestingly we've become
friends friends. I mean, wedon't hang out at the tavern or anything.
But I'm saying, is you knowwe actually she knows who I am
now that I'm not just you know, some dude. And we've actually changed
(12:56):
comments before on post and I'm thinkingit's cool. And she's really really a
wonderful lady, really good christianly everything. And I tell you something, we
want to have her back on theshow next year, and she's agreed to
do it. We just got of, you know, just figuring out the
dates and things like that. Butshe she'll be back, and I'm sure
that some of these people will otherpeople will be back as well. But
(13:18):
another episode that I enjoyed was uh, Chasa and Mari. They were a
lot of fun honey fire Yeah,oh yeah, I love it. Yeah,
they were fun right and yeah, and some of these you've mentioned,
I'm just gonna do the ones youdidn't, But yeah, Johnny and Colleen
(13:39):
always fun to have those Those guysare funny. They are always make me
laugh there and they're a great couple. It's such a good time speaking of
fun people and funny people. KevinCallen, you know it was funny on
the show. Yeah, you mentioned, you mentioned the good you mentioned some
really good ones too, And I'mlike Alona uh jidego kite surfing around the
(14:05):
world. She was actually our firstlight surfer. Yeah and yeah, and
she's actually an airlines toardise and Iwanted to have her back on the show
to talk about her career as anairline suitors. And I don't mean so
much her career as I do puttingup with idiots. And I mean that
(14:28):
like when we are traveling. Couldyou imagine I mean honestly that putting up
with people on the flights and I'veseen no and you you kind of run
away because you are in the plane. You're there, You're there. You
cannot troll down away charda windows. No, you can only think. All
the think you can do is probablyeither get them drunk, and maybe that's
(14:48):
even thrown gasoline on a fire, but you know, so they pass out,
but maybe the air marshal. Ithink that's your only recourse, there
is an air marshal and going sickthem, you know, and you know
you mentioned Clip Jacobs, Dennis Rogers, Dennis ca Newhound Rogers. You know,
I always always a blast to havehim on to He's such a great
time. But you named you namedthe ones that I was going to name
(15:13):
too. I mean, I thinkthey're really Yeah, well we think alike
and that's that's why we work together. And I love that we work together
well too, I think. AndI'll take you. Now, let's let's
pose that question to where she's fivetwenty. We're already zipping by here.
Let's ask I told Marry all thattoo, So let's ask one are fearless
(15:39):
producer slash engineer? Yeah? Whatuh? What? What episodes? Because
he'll probably have a different perspective onthis than what we do. You know,
Let's ask Uncle Jan favorite episodes?Uncle? I think, I mean
(16:00):
every episode has been great with youguys, but I think my the ones
that I had the most fun doingwere the ones where you guys, it
was just you guys, your triplike to either like the one with Chicago,
with with the Bean and Aruba.I liked the Luther Pack one too
as well. That was a funone to do. That's cool. Yeah,
(16:23):
you know why because because he didn'twork the whole show. He just
should play it. See I wasn'tgoing to say it, but so he
really could like to see and enjoy. He didn't have much to do on
the the loote back. That wasgreat. All the engineers to show.
Gotta get this. I was overhere just eating popcorn. I don't know
about that. It's like, wayto go, guys. Yeah, good
(16:48):
keep it up. I think heprobably had to push the buttons on the
commercials and that was about that, just about yeah. But you know,
next time on one can enjoy usin. I think he should. I
think he should a little about thosetrips. And plus we get to get
him drunk on the trip and seesee who around you get try if you
(17:10):
have enough money. Well, youknow, here's it's probably a seasoned alcoholic
and we don't know it. Butyou know the thing is, you really
don't know someone until you get themdrunk, and then you see what they're
really there, you know, andyou get that out. Yeah that's true.
I've been drunk once. You wouldn'tget to know me. Well,
(17:32):
I'm usually be drunk. They dosomething stupid, then you can hang them
out. I fall asleep like Ijust look for a couch and I fall
asleep. That's my go to.Well, he sounds like a lot of
fun. Maya take more fun's soberif Okay, I can't take that.
I am. I am never fun, but I can get drunk and I
(17:55):
don't sleep when I'm drunk. ButI'm never fun. At least your wife
on suburb that's cool. Yeah,I do more crazy things sober than drunk.
If them, I don't even wantto know about that. One thing
about this road tripping stuff one andis Maya and I we had a grand
(18:15):
plan when we started this. Westarted working together, and the grand plan
was this we wanted to We hadall kinds of ideas about this. We
were going to take. First,we were going to take all it was
like a Winnebago, yeah, motorhome, and we were going to pull
the trailer behind us with all thebroadcast equipment, and then we would go
(18:37):
place to place and we would hireengineers depending on what city we were going
to be. Okay, and soonwe realized that, okay, well,
these these Winnebagos are these motor homesare expensive to drive and most people and
by the way, the trailer thatwe haul is about a little about little
(18:59):
over fourth thousand pounds isn't going towork, wouldn't work well for that,
But most people were just more thanhappy to put us up in a hotel.
That's cool, we'll do that.So then it came to be,
you know, my truck and pullingtrailer. But our plan was we were
going to tour some places in America. We're going to tour some places in
Brazil because we could drive there. We're connected, you know, and yeah,
(19:26):
and then we'll figure out how todo Europe. When we get to
that point, you know, maybewe'll be millionaires. We can just fly
everything over there, because get yourstuff over there're anyway. But that was
the plan. And uh so wewe acquired a bunch of broadcast equipment,
all that kind of good stuff, and that was already and we still want
(19:48):
to do that. So sponsors,Coca Cola, you know, red Bull,
all you people at McDonald's, bringit on. We're ready for it.
So yeah, yeah, I'm ready. We are ready to hold your
world and broadcast it. Yeah.Absolutely. Okay, So I just got
a message from miss h and Ithink that's what it is. Yeah,
(20:10):
okay, Yeah, let's go dothat maya, let's go do that well,
send us out to a commercial andwe'll come right back with the other
questions that I have. Wow,that's go ye out of time right,
so don't go away, We'll beright back. A few years ago,
(20:37):

we Are we are Jackson Kayak.Hey, kids, and we're back
(22:59):
with the last episode of Outdoors Peoplefor twenty twenty three. That's my radio
voice. How does that sound?I do that? Geez right? I
do have one question for you beforewe go to because we're in docing commercials
and we're gonna I'm sorry, somephotos. We're gonna skip the next commercial
and let him ssue me. Sohere's here's my question. To you.
(23:19):
We did a lot of and MadyEllie brought this to my attention. I
really she made this made a greatpoint. So we introduced a lot of
sports on this show to people.I mean sports, and honestly, some
of them I've never even heard of, and I don't know about you,
(23:40):
and and and encourages people to getoutdoors and to stay active and to be
healthy. And Maddy Ellie is abig health advocate and I and I think
that's great. I really appreciate thatabout her. So thanks Maddy Ellie.
She's got me doing some habits, very very healthy habits, by the way,
and quitting some ones that aren't healthy. But we don't go into that.
(24:03):
But here's the thing I want toknow of all the sports that we
highlighted and featured on the show thisyear, and I know it's not outdoor
stuff or outdoor sports. It's outdoorspeople is the focus. But they do
some really cool stuff and it's throughthose sports that we meet them or are
introduced to them. Of those things, maya one are maybe the top.
(24:29):
Let's just say five that you wouldsay I want to try that. I've
never done it, but I wantto definitely want to do that. Are
there? Oh my gosh, Yeah, that's that's a hard question because I
ever think that I have never done. I feel like I need to do
That's very hard, right, youare like me? But I can.
(24:51):
I can. I can highlight themfor sure. Can you in a wild
raverse like Cliff because he's my hero? Yeah, I think you're his hero
too, by the way, youknow, it's funny. I never would
imagined you saying that, but that'sthat surprises me. That's cool. Yeah,
And actually before imagining, I alwayswondering how would do that like here
(25:15):
in Brazil because I love canoeing kayaking, but like you know, like with
people in regular places and regular reavers. But what she what he does,
it's like unreal, that's unbelievable. And I really want to try that one
day, maybe with you guys UnitedStates or Canada. I never worry.
(25:37):
I think it would be fun takingyou on a canoe trip with Cliff and
we would Yeah, whitewater, Ican't. I can't die for it.
Oh my gosh, so much,so much fun. And uh for diving
free did Yeah? I love itall shows about for diving. I really
want to do that, like thisso where. Thanks knowing you. No,
(26:03):
I mean that's great. I thinkyou'll be great. You'll be great
at it. You were almost aprofessional swimmer, so you guy. Yeah,
I was before before university and kitesurfing, yeah, kitsurfing, Yeah,
definitely that's easier for How about uh, skydiving? You know something,
(26:33):
I don't know why I am notinto that. You you are not going
to believe it, but I amafraid of heights, even though I love
climbing and mountaineering, but I don'tknow if I can just jump through the
airplane, it doesn't make any sense. You're afraid of heights and you climb
up the places. That kind offreaked me out. And I was the
(26:53):
one that was a skydiver, Imean, not professional. I mean,
I'm telling you, And we almostdid that. I had us signed up
for that when you were here, remember, yeah, and you're like,
oh my god, oh my god. But you were willing to go and
I was really proud of you forthat. And I don't know why we
didn't go, And it might havebeen a time factor. Yeah, we
changed up our plans about going toChicago. We needed to tend our plans
(27:15):
because I had like more three dayslast and stuffing like that, so we
changed the plan. Yeah, Ido remember that. I just kind of
wondered, you know what you're yeah, because you know, I some of
these things I haven't I wasn't awareof either, and I thought it was
pretty cool that you know when youcan, yeah, when you can kind
(27:37):
of like your co host goes,oh wow, I never heard of that
before. I said, well, that's great. Then, you know,
I'm feeling like we're doing some edumacationto a lot of people. Let me
I've been. There's a comment herebefore we go to the pictures. Must
think seven seven four, Good evening, my NCW. Hi, how are
you doing? And yeah, absolutelygreat to thanks for tuning in. Scuba
diving is awesome, he said, you know what it is. It is
(28:02):
school diving is cool. I almostdid that in Mexico and then I check
it out because I get claustrophobic.I have to have a seat on the
yeah, in the aisle on anairplane. By the way, speak of
that. I was supposed to say, Hi, there was a young lady
that helped me from American Airlines Aliyahat American Airlines. Hey, I hope
(28:22):
you tuned and stayed this far inthe show. Oh my god, she
helped me so much. The otherday we just found out Brazil where I'm
heading to. And I'm not gonnasay Wednesday, you can come over to
my house and rob me, butI'm going to tell you they just didn't
reinstated a a visa visitors visa anduh, I said, whoa, Well,
(28:48):
my trip was going to be afterthe day that they and I,
so I just moved it up tothe day before it's effective, So a
couple of days. I'm like, but she helped me redo this trip and
it was a pain in the labanza. I apologize to her. I think
it was her when I got onthe funny said I'm just gonna start with
this conversation with I'm sorry, butshe was amazing. So a Leah,
thank you so much. Oh mygosh, that's funny. Yeah, but
(29:11):
I'm claustrophobic, and that the wholeaisle seat on the airplane reminded me of
this scuba diving was something that Ijust go, Okay, I can see
me getting claustrophobic underwater going came outof here. Yeah, and I said,
no, yeah, that's true. But at least you know yourself and
then you don't try because you knowwe were going to panic anyways. Absolutely,
(29:32):
yeah, I kind of just sawthat coming. So I said,
no, well, hey, let'ssee some pictures here. Let's just go
to some pictures. This is somephotos. Yeah, let's see here.
Yeah. Sorry, So now weare going to do my favorite part of
ourselves. So that's cool, that'sabsolutely And I think you can narrate this
(29:55):
and I'm just going to try toshut up if I can do that.
And what let's let's roll in oneand one jumping? Yeah, okay,
so we started. This is howwe start. I put this in here
because this is like Maya day oneand yeah, she's got a new microphone
and I'm very proud of it.And this was her, yeah, the
(30:19):
start of her professional broadcasting career. And I thought, that's so cute.
Let's let so that was day one. I love that picture. I can
believe that you don't even you don'teven know what's in these pictures. I
love that. So no, yeah, where was this? Was this at
the airport somewhere? Yes, inthe airport in Chicago, right? Yeah?
(30:42):
Was this? This is? Wasyou coming or going no coming.
It was like my first me nudein Chicago. Oh that's okay, you
like to take a picture. Weare fine. We are trying to to
find the driver. Oh yeah, the the attack, the airport shuttle.
Yeah, it's so funny. Iforg I figured this was in an airport.
(31:03):
I just didn't know which one andwhere it was at and come in
or going, oh my gosh, you remember this, I remember, which
I can't remember because we kind ofdrunk Colito beat that night, like I
actually was an evening, right was, No, it's actually a whole day
there. There was a band andeverything and yeah, and that's probably my
(31:26):
Heineken on the bar there, bothof them, and in fact I know
it is because nobody else drinks that. So so this at this bar,
it's called the petticoat Junction. It'sa place called Zering, Illinois. And
uh, the owner's name is Julieand she's had like thirty one years now
and good for you, congratulations,Julie. Fun place. You get to
(31:48):
write your name on the ceiling inthe wall anywhere like that in this place,
and it's kind of cool. SoI was like, yeah, Maya

eat lots, no drinking, nopartying, probably, but with my
family and the friends who are here, because I don't know there but here
(46:06):
in Brazil this summer. So everyonelikes to travel in the Christmas and New
Years, and I do that.I do like backwards, I do the
opposite, So I travel the wholeyear and then in the Christmas and New
Years, I spend with my family, my mom and my sister, and
we cook together, we drink together, and we just chill and enjoy ourselves
(46:30):
and have good conversations because we nevercan do that. So it's the only
time of the year we can enjoythe family. So that's my plan.
I love that it's like it's likeChristmas in summertime. I love that there's
summer, but only if you livein North America. But yeah, I
