(00:21):
Radio. Welcome to outdoors, Peoplewith Me. CW. Getz and her
Maya Marzaki. Good evening, It'sWednesday, March twenty seven, twenty twenty
(00:52):
four. It's me better late thannever. CW. Guts and her Miss
Maya Marzaki. That are related thenmore late right. I don't know what
happened, but I somehow told ourguests the wrong day, and so that
you know I do things like that. So I apologize to her. But
we are late. It's my faultand that's the name of that too.
(01:15):
So I'll do this quickly. Wedon't want to take away any more airtime
from her forty one degrees here innorth central Illinois. That's forty one fahrenheit
and fort degrees celsius. Miyamar Ezaki, what do you have in so Polo,
Brazil? Exactly like you? Sevento one? It means twenty one
degrees celsius for the free world. So it's getting chill here because the fall
(01:38):
is coming this weekend. And I'mvery happy and excited because for who doesn't
know, it is the molden seasonhere in Brazil. So we enjoy outdoors
in the winter time here Brazil. It's so funny. Yeah, climbing season
is upon you. Man, thatis so funny. But yeah, you're
excited because now you can go outsideand you don't have to worry about to
(02:00):
Yeah, I mean just rain everyday or I don't know. When I
was there, it rained every day. You didn't make that up. It
does rain every day, sometimes twicea day, which is like wow,
yes it all works. Summertime hereit is too hard, so rains every
day and no stop. That's whywe like winter. I don't know,
I think I would enjoy it,to be honest with you, I could
(02:21):
live in I could easily live there. Honestly, I almost didn't want to
come home. Sometimes I wish Ihadn't come home, but that's another story
further day. Ah, let's getright to our guest here, a twenty
eight year old Italian ski instructor andkitesurf instructor. Isabelle ace Venturini grew up
in val Gardena Dalamite's, Italy, where she attended Ski College. From there,
(02:45):
she went on to earn a diplomain tourism and economics in with that,
(03:38):
Welcome to the show, Isabel,Hello, thank you and very much.
I'm doing very well. But todayhow is everything in Italy? And
no I'm not in Italy at themoment, I'm in Switzerland, Switzerland,
Okay, in Switzerland right now?Yeah? Well, actually we got eleven
(04:00):
pm, damn close to midnight.Damn. Thank you so much for joining
us this hour. Thank you you. I try to pick the cool guests
so they don't really like get madat me or anything too much, you
know, so they're like, yeah, that's cool, we'll come to you
love it, yes, and thenand she didn't, right, so that's
cool, very cool. I appreciatethat. Thank you. So did you
(04:29):
really learn ski before you could walk? And how old were you? Well?
More or less. Let's say, yeah, I could just walk,
and I went skiing first time whenI was two and a half, so
yeah, more or less when youstart working. Because I had a bigger
(04:50):
brother, so I wanted to alwaysdo the same things as he was doing.
How did you know? How didthat work out? Did they carry
you to the ski slope or becauseyou know you were before you walk?
But I mean, how does thatwork you? You really? Yeah?
Well, my mother would bring meto the ski slope where the other kids
would ski and try to teach mesking and yeah, I actually always tried
(05:14):
to do everything on my own.She told me so. She would just
bring misking and I would see down, up and down the hill ten thousand
times in the afternoon. And yeah, just a tough I'm struggled, lady.
I think I think you and Maare kind of like the same sort
of people. You just I gotit, I'll do it, thank you.
(05:35):
Yeah exactly. Yes, I meanI'm kind of tough, but I
don't have so many skills like her. You know, I was trying to
walk when I was years old, right, you doing it too, I
know That's what I was doing.Yeah, I was better in skiing than
(05:56):
walking, because walking was much moredifficult. I guess rapily true, probably
true. And then you went toat some point you got past the whole.
You know, I'm two and I'mskiing. But you went on to
attend a ski college. Is thatright? Tell us about that? I
mean exactly. Well, basically,in Italy you go to high school.
(06:20):
I need choose, let's say, what subjects you'd like to study in future.
And this ski college is basically ahigh school which gives you all the
tools and preparations to go on withthe career as an athlete. So while
(06:41):
school, you also train on theslopes, and that's basically the ski college.
So you go to school and yougo to ski. How much time
do you spend studying and how muchtime do you spend skiing when at a
ski Well, during season, duringwinter season, you ski quite a lot
because there's many athletes, let's say, so it's like time off from studying.
(07:08):
They study beginning of season, let'ssay, from September to December,
and then again from April to June. That's like the intense study where everything
gets concentrated in order to keep skanningthe whole winter without thinking too much about
school. You don't need any chemistryto ski, right, So no,
(07:34):
and actually they just do it thefirst two years because it's mandatory. But
after well, let's say you havea direction where you have to go,
you have to ski, and thenyou do like economics more more or less,
but no chemistry or biology and noneof that. Right, I'm a
(07:58):
few guys here here in Brazil. We don't schools don't learn sports in general,
so we need to go through allthe chemistry, organic chemistry, physics,
the whole the whole college, andwe don't learn how to do any
sports. So it's not cool.So I DoD jealous of you guys in
Europe eight because you guys are likeencouraged to learn more than just school subjects.
(08:28):
That's that's very absolutely absolutely, we'revery lucky. Yeah, and that's
very good for the kids growing upas a people, as a person,
right, it's very cool. Butwhat made you decide to become an instructor?
Oh? You know how they saymake out of your passion and job
(08:50):
something like that. I just thought, you know, I'm very good at
this, and I also feel likeI can I like teaching a lot,
and so why not be outside, have the possibility to do sports and being
also job, So what the mainreason that's cool? We have a saying
(09:13):
here, if you work with somethingyou love, you will never moral love
anything else. Yeah, yeah,I love it so much. In America
we have a saying it says thosewho can do and those who cannot teach.
But that's just in America. Idon't think that applies anywhere else.
(09:39):
And by the way, I haveto ask you what kind of a what
kind of a child did youhood?Did you have? Were you a good
student or did you Behave you getin trouble or like like I did?
Or what what did you do?Oh? Can we skip this question?
I think she might have been abit of a Helia. What do you
think? Well, now I wantto know. Actually it was actually yeah,
(10:05):
I was very very funny and veryopen girl. But yeah, I
was okay, you know so.Actually, but I've always been very very
nice. I was not a badgirl. I was just a little bit
yeah, energetic, let's say toomuch. I love that, very politically
(10:26):
correct exactly. I never did anydamage or something like that. Well,
then you didn't have that much, you know, that's true. That's true.
It was too. It is justfor yourself judo when you were when
you were a kid. Yeah, that's another sport. I started very very
(10:48):
very young because of my brother becausehe was doing it, so I had
to do it. So I started, yeah, when I was like four,
just for the of the teacher whosaid because I was just screaming and
I wanted to go, and hesaid, all right, I just put
her in the group. I willmanage to Oh wow. So yeah,
(11:09):
did you ever ever beat anybody, even like maybe your brothers, did you
ever beat anybody up with the judo? Or he just you know, just
just learned to know it. Theyhave to whoop ass. Yes, I
beat my brothers up mostly, butthey were beating a bee as well,
(11:31):
so it's you know, fair thing. No, but judo is a very
good base for respect and discipline, and I think that any kid should try
doing yodo at least once because itgives such a big, nice, good
pace for future for any sport. And yeah, as I said, for
(11:54):
discipline, so yeah, I wouldagree with that. I think it's one
of those things were and I studiedthe hakto for a short time. In
any martial arts, it's discipline, you you know to degree. Yeah,
I think that's absolutely yeah, yes, that's very true. It's really good
for our kids learn they just spointand how to behave that's very nice of
(12:20):
those martial arts and uh so inour school you could learn ski and because
of our broader you could all learnas you do. But how was your
parents? So they used to encourageyou guys to do that? How how
they look like? How how youknow? So my parents have always been
(12:43):
very sporty. Of course, they'vealways brought us on holidays or on Sundays
and hikes, our bike tours orwhatever like. They've always pushed us a
lot to stay outside to enjoy nature, and of course our surroundings were the
(13:03):
best to do that. And soyeah, we just tried to follow a
little bit their path and and yeahthat's it. So our parents, yeah,
very quitely boarding. Well, theyreally strict with you and you guys,
and you had to you had chores, you had to do, you
had a curfew all that or no, yeah, yeah we did have that.
(13:26):
Yes, Actually, our parents havealways been quite strict because they had
to work a lot and they hadus to be independent as soon as possible.
So that's also why sports help alot, I think, And yeah,
you know skiing. Going back toyour skiing here, have you ever
(13:48):
had any really bad accidents skiing whereyou know, maybe you broke something,
put you in the hospital or anythinglike that. Well, I did break
some bones, but fortunately were sobad. I have friends they've had much
worse. So I wouldn't say I'vehad bad accidents. I just some random
classical accident that broke me my clmy arm and my breast. But you
(14:16):
know, like I wouldn't define itsuch a terrible accident. That's another Monday.
I wouldn't feel I would respect myfriends saying that. I know what
I mean. Yeah, did youdo jumping and stuff? I mean,
(14:37):
did you jump things? Yeah?Yeah. When I was younger, I
used to do that. I hadfun doing that. I can see you
doing it. Yeah yeah yeah,Well nowadays I'm very scared. I'm very
scared for my knees and stuff. But in the water, I have no
problem doing it, right. WouldI love to do it exactly? Well?
Yeah? Sometimes yeah, but I'mfor sure it's always softer than snow
(15:07):
or yeah, absolutely much. You'rebelly flapping off of a cliff. Oh
boy? Uh now, a girlquestion girl for girl, Okay, girl
for a tough girl, So benot accomplished it skiar as well being a
(15:30):
ski instructure, plus knowing Judo area man ever intimidated by you? Intimidated
just scarried? I hope not.I hope not. No, I don't
think so like they're not intimidated. They might be surprised or but I don't
(15:56):
think like Judah. I almost nevermentioned I do judo because I was,
well, it's good, but it'slong time. I don't touch it tatami
or my kimono, so it doesn'tcome to my mind so easily, even
though I've done it for almost twentyyears. And yes, the moment I
(16:18):
mentioned I did judo, some peoplethey look weird and they're like, oh
okay, but actively around you. Then when they know and they go,
okay, I'm not going to messwith her exactly. That's what everyone says.
So, yeah, that's a goodthing you can you know. Yeah,
it depends I use it when whenwhenever I use it, I need
(16:41):
it. I use this thing aboutthe judo. Use it on a date.
The guy was like a little toofresh. Yeah, well if he
gets too close A right, look, man, I for eighteen years.
I would pay pottention if I wasin here. You know, did that
really happen? I love it?But do we say it just happened?
(17:03):
You know? The guy brings youknow, the guy brings a date home
and then hear whatever, and thenthe guys all beat up, and nobody
can figure out what would happened exactly, even because I'm very small, so
it wouldn't be very people wouldn't believeit. Yeah, yeah, they're going,
what the hell happened here? Iknow what you mean. I mean,
(17:29):
well, so people don't want tobelieve that I'm that strong, So
that's funny. Yeah, dynamite comesin small packages, right, Yeah.
Ask you where do you see yourselfyour career? You're skiing and kite sirping
career, where do you see thatgoing and being in ten years? Where
do you see yourself going professional?Or No? Oh I am skiing.
(17:56):
I don't think so. A kuidingwould love to, but I might probably
stay more on the working side ofthese two passions of mine, I've got
more than become professional kit ser foror skier. I mean, what what
does professional mean? I will alwaysgobs of money and then you make fancy
(18:22):
cars and all that. More likean athlete, so or yeh pro?
No, I prefer my poor littleItalian car than a Ferrari, So yeah,
I would. I would probably stayon the teaching side of sports.
(18:47):
I would say, so no aspirationsof being a professional or a professional athlete,
were you, Well, no,because I'm too old for it already,
so real and centers of course.Nowadays, I think all the athletes,
like I mean, in any sports, they're so young. They start
from fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, whatever, they're kids, So I'm already
(19:12):
the old. The old she mightimagine how old I am now I'm I'm
kind of thinking the same. Idon't know how young athletes start. I'm
sure they start well like you know, grade school like, but still I'm
thinking, are you too old attwenty eight to want to turn pro?
(19:36):
Well, yes, for sure,I'm not too old to turn pro.
But I mean if once I getthe pro and the other pros are maybe
fifteen years old and they have anotherbody, so I don't know how long
my pro could last. Let's say, I just think I'm a bit out
of the run, and actually Idon't like to be in this spot light
(20:00):
so I prefer to coach and teachkind of the behind the scenes sort of
position. Yeah, that's interesting, that humble position. But well, you
have done so much. You kitesurf, your your ski, you have
done judo, and you have traveled. So do you have chill book at
(20:26):
list? And what kind of thingsare still in your book to list if
you have? Everyone? So,well, the first thing on my bucket
list? Which is there? AndI hope to do this series start to
skidie for sure. Nice. Ohthat's so cool. I would really really
(20:47):
really love to do that, addinganother sport extreme sport to my list.
That's a good one. Yeah, actually yeah, and for sure to open
my own kite school. Yeah inItaly one day. What is that?
What is that? What does thatlook like? Open your own kite school?
(21:11):
What do you do? You justbasically that's that's your only what you
do for money? You just getpeople coming in, they pay you,
you train them, and then justkind of a turnover thing. Exactly well
yes, exactly like a normal anyother sports school. But as I'm based
on the lake, we teach fromboats, so it's kind of different,
(21:33):
like you get continuity with people andI would really love to push a group
of women girls because trying to coachgirls mostly because it looks like such a
scary sport. It is. Itmight be if you don't really know how
(21:56):
to do it, but everyone cando it. So are they try to
stay behind women in this? Andso I would really love to put on
a project for these kind of things. I see the people up and looks
like they look like they're and Idon't know height feet, let's just go
(22:17):
feet. They look like they're fiftysixty feet in the air. It looks
like they're flying. I mean thatlooks dangerous. And yeah, I mean,
I'm but are there more men thanwomen that do things like kitesurfing and
things like that? Because of maybethe person I would say so, yeah,
I would say so. In myopinion, there's much more men at
(22:38):
the moment than women still kite surfingfor sure, because from the outside it
looks like super scary and I canunderstand that absolutely that's as it started.
It's not scary at all. That'svery nice a few I think we most
as a woman's support more women startsports in general. So that's very cute
(23:06):
of you. And I actually Ijust read article because Brazil is a very
sexist country, and I just sawarticle that we have more women in the
Olympic Games in Brazil and it's thefirst time that it happens. So I
(23:26):
was so happy. I was sobeautiful. I can't imagine. That's beautiful.
Yes, good for you. Absolutelywomen power, always power. Absolutely
absolutely. Well, now we arein my favorite part of the show.
(23:48):
We are going to look up somephotos and talk about that. I love
that part very much. Show thepictures. It's kind of like show and
tell at school, remember that,Yeah, exactly. Well, wow,
this is my friend and we werepretending to be teacher and student for wingfoiling.
(24:15):
Now, wingfoil is the one thatjust you hold you hold this up.
There's nothing else that holds it toyour book, exactly exactly. You
just hold this sale and they gotaboard with the foil underneath your feet and
they just tried to fly over thewater. I can't remember, but are
there slats for your feet to gojust like when you're kite surfing that they
(24:37):
fit into the Yeah? Yeah, you got some like yeah straps? Yeah?
Oh yeah, you know. Iwas teaching her. Oh, this
is actually in USA. This ison Lake Michigan. You're kidding me,
you know, to the Midwest America? Oh my, yes, And this
(25:02):
was in Green Bay. It wascold, no town near there. I
really loved this place and how everythinggets frozen. I love this place,
mich Sorry, how do you likeLake Michigan? Well, I have to
be honest. I've been there forlike about three weeks and the weather was
(25:26):
always really really bad. But yeah, it was beautiful. It's like being
on the sea, and I reallyloved it. But I think I need
to go back once it's a nicerseason, summer season. I think check
out Lake Superior, right, Maya, Yeah, that's true. It's a
(25:48):
beautiful place. Yeah, all right, I will check it. But yeah,
exactly, this is my favorite placeEgypt for kiting. Or I'll be
back very very soon. When wasthis a few years ago? And yeah,
(26:15):
I was very lucky. I catcheda photographer who was staying on the
boat and photographing all the people around, and so that's what it is.
It looked like so happy, that'sso cool. I love it. I
don't know how high this is,but I can think about maybe three meters
(26:37):
something like that. Three meters notreally so high. Yes, it looks
like you're about thirty meters. Ohwell no I was. It's not right,
No, that's not it's true. And this is still Egypt exactly.
This was I think the second treebecause I had long wet suits, so
(27:02):
it was much colder, very unexpectedcold in Egypt. And yeah, yeah,
magazine cover right there, I think, so thank you a rock star
picture. Absolutely, it's yeah magazine, you know, this is actually paradise
(27:23):
exactly as how I expressed myself onthis picture. It's really is having fun,
it really does I do. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know.
We we interviewed so many kite surfershere and all those pictures, you
guys look like so happy and havingso much fun. I'm trying to write
(27:47):
out I knew that that you haveto it's really like freedom sports or they're
all drunk and I can't imagine that. So sports must be that much fun.
Absolutely and warm. This is Philippinesaround. That's so cool. Yeah
(28:15):
yeah, I was doing my favoritetrack in here. These kite surfers go
everywhere, you know, I meanthey go everywhere. Oh yeah, would
you travel a lot? You checkout new spots. Yeah, that's also
a reason why I really love kitesurfing and get to travel much more than
skiing. I was just going toask you that. Yeah, yeah,
(28:37):
it's a bit easier, you know, being in a summer sport. Plus
you don't have to dress, youhave to put hardly any clothes on.
That's exactly, absolutely exactly travel.Yeah, the backpacks are much lighter and
cheaper. What do we get here? Is this beautiful it's a beautiful mountain.
(29:03):
It's Nature Park in Sardinia on theisland Italy, And this is this
massive mountain just in the middle ofthe sea, which I really really love.
And uh yeah, I go backto Sardinia quite often because it's a
stunning, magic place in my opinion, for cat surfing, but for anything.
(29:27):
And here we always travel by then, so that's and also it's a
good place for appreciate a good wineas well. Yes, actually, yes,
that's true. That's true. Wineis always appreciated there you go.
(29:51):
Yeah, everything is possible here.We got the little photo shooting I did
for a surf shop and where Ilive. And yes, I used to
have pink hair at the time. And if you wonder at the yeah,
(30:12):
yeah, yeah, yeah, that'scool. Sometimes little bit dispair as was
your whole the whole, your wholehair was pink. Yes, yes,
really, yeah, well here itwas very at the end of it.
But yes, I really love tohave pink hair. I didn't get in
those pictures. I didn't see thepictures. Sorry, No, that's so
(30:37):
cool. That's so cool. Iusually to to do that in my hair
every carnival. You see, youdo it for a carnival. I did
for being normal. Yes, wellwas my my excuse, right, okay,
there we God, I didn't know. Yes, this was I think
(31:03):
this year beginning of season, firstsnowfall, we got so one of the
first three rides and it looks likeyou got some obstacles there. Yeah,
we came down from that upper part. But we know the area really well,
so the rocks is not a problem. You know, in the snow
(31:26):
and you don't know it's there andyou hit that with your ski and it's
bam, flying through the Yeah.Well, fortunately with the first snowflake,
you can really see every obstacle,so if you know the area, it's
more or less quite safe. Asyou can see, there's a lake in
(31:51):
the background, and that's my homespot where I live and where I kite
and teach kiting. And here Iwas just on the mountain behind my house,
let's say, in my backyard ona bad weather day. We just
hiked up in a very early morningand because there was no wind for a
(32:14):
guy surfing, you're pretty high upthere because you're bustam. Yeah, it's
it was quite cold. It's twothousand here, two thousands above the sea
levels. So yeah, like, yeah, it's a lot of difference in
altitude from the town to where Iwas there, so very cool. Yeah,
(32:37):
beautiful, Oh yeah, there yougo. I love it. Yeah,
travel here. We were set uplike quite hippy this day here,
as you gets see, I wassitting on the floor on a mat.
(32:58):
Normally we're much better organized, buthere it was. We had some problems
with the parking, so I wasjust waiting for things to be set.
As you can see, I wasa princess and my man was working.
Not just kidding, actually he was, that's exactly. So. Yeah,
(33:22):
this is after a very long tripand we arrived to this beautiful spot here.
So the sunset, that's very beautiful. And is that the old Italian
car that you mentioned? No,this is my boyfriends than my car.
I didn't put it in the pictures. Well, I know why you want
(33:45):
to have a relationship with him goodcar, Yes, exactly, exactlyfriends with
vents, no man, no boyfriend. That's the guys exactly here here.
I had fun because last week lastyear, I discovered, let's say,
(34:09):
a new hobby, which is acrow yoga, and I was using all
of my friends or relatives or whateverto try and do my moves. So
here was trying it with my withmy good friend mm hmm. And yeah,
I think I managed to do thatvertical. I'm the one up upside
(34:31):
down here? What's that called again? What kind of you said? A
crow yoga? A crow yoga?A crow yoga. I've never heard of
that. Cracrobration. You should checkit out. It's really nice. Yeah,
well it's because I love acrobatics,so it's quite close and it can
(34:54):
do it at home. Yeah.I just didn't know had a name.
I guess. I mean I've seenoh, okay, okay, I've never
heard that name before. You.It's interesting. Yeah, that's very cool.
Mark True surveying. This is Sardinia, Yes, this is Italy.
(35:16):
I just really like the picture becauseI was basically lying in the water and
still being dragged by the kite.Maybe as a non kite surfer it's a
bit more difficult to understand. Butthe lower you get in this trick,
(35:37):
the more stylish it looks. Andhere I think I was really laying into
it. So for those kites arefirst listening, let's see what they think.
I love it. Well, letme ask you what before we let
you go here? What inspirational advicewould you like to share with our audience
(35:59):
before you go? There's something youcould say, Hey, listen, if
you do anything, you know whatever, or you know whatever, what would
it be? Uh? My inspirationaladvice is, if you want to do
something, you can do it.Yeah, no limitations, no limitations like
(36:21):
if you want it or you cando it otherwise you don't really want it.
That's very good. I like that. Yes, that's very true.
So just do it up man,you just do it. It's scared,
just do it. Do it?And Isabelle, where can people find you?
Aline? People can find me onInstagram on my name Isabelle ace Venturini.
(36:51):
Uh. Yes, that's my mainpage where you can fail and find
what I do with my stories andif you need help, we have some
comments here. We'll see here, let's see what those are. We got
comments? Do we have comments?I thought somebody said we had there we
(37:15):
go having a job that doesn't seemlike a job is super Absolutely yeah,
that's true. Absolutely Hello, Hello, Hello? Are you? Are you
a Jim Carrey fan by any chance? Ace Venture? Oh? Of course
that's why my nickname is Ace exactlybecause of that. I love it.
(37:40):
I love it all right? Anymore comments that we go on the show
or is that it pretty much?Uh? I guess I'm thinking that's it
all right? Well, hey, listen, thank you. Uh. I
want to thank you for being ourguest here tonight. It was a pleasure,
absolutely pleasure, absolutely pleasure having youhere with us. Your your wonderful
(38:00):
