Caroline and I'm Kristin. And on our last episode we
talked all about the history of fashion modeling and where
those ladies came from and gents to be honest. Um,

but today we returning our focus to fashion itself specifically,
and the fact that today we are having sort of
the same conversation about fashion in terms of feminism that
we've had for a long long time. Yeah, So this
has been a really interesting thing to look at in

terms of this intersection between fashion and feminism, because those
two things might seem completely at odds. Feminism doesn't care
about about fancy clothes and handbags and high heels, but
in fact, it has always cared about clothes so much.
I mean, we we've talked before in the podcast about
Amelia Bloomer and dress reform and early early feminists who

are like, hey, you know what's awful wearing corsets and
like ten pounds of clothing that is literally dangerous if
we ever get wet. We should change how we dress.
The same thing happened with Second Way feminism as well, right,
Linda Scott writes about this in her recent book Fresh Lipstick, Redressing,
Fashion and Feminism. She says American feminism takes a dim

view of beauty. Across the spectrum of academic and popular literature,
feminist writers have consistently argued that a woman's attempt to
cultivate her appearance makes her a dupe, a fashion, the
plaything of men, and thus a collaborator in her own oppression.
