(00:01):
Gid evening, and welcome to thelive edition of Race Denation. We've been
waiting a long time to make thisfinally happen going live, and I'm going
to bring up some stuff here thatyou can talk and interact with us here
on the show for the first time, which is going to be great because
now you have a chance to makesome questions, bring some points up if
you like about a race that youmay have watched. But today, let's
(00:25):
start with what today is all about. And I'm going to hand it over
to my co host, Michelle RayHall for that. Michelle, go ahead,
Yeah, thank you, Rob.I appreciate that. You know,
we often confuse in this day andage some of these holidays that we have
or these celebrations. This is notso much a celebration. This is Memorial
(00:48):
Day. And what that really meansis we're honoring those veterans, those those
people that died for this country.Over a million people gave their lives so
that we could live in freedom, absolute freedom, and I hope that people
really grasp what that means. Wehave a day for veterans, that's a
(01:08):
Veterans Day obviously, but Memorial Day. It's for those who have fallen to
keep us free, and I prayto God that we remain that way.
It's a beautiful day here in Floridawhere I'm broadcasting from, and I sincerely
hope everyone's enjoying it. With thebarbecues, with the food, with the
(01:29):
eating, stop and say a littlebit of a prayer for those that have
fallen for us. And that's whatMemorial Day really is. That's right.
And you know, we couldn't dowhat we do today, not just today,
but every single day in this countrywithout those men and women who've made
the ultimate sacrifice. And that's exactlywhat today is about. So honor and
(01:53):
remember, as we always say.And this is another special day in racing
as well because it has the MonacoGP in F one, which is a
huge race. We'll talk about thathere in a second. The Indie five
hundred, where I gotta tell you, the crowd looked amazing. It's back
to the old Indie I mean,I really am impressed with what's going on
(02:15):
with the IndyCar Series right now,and especially the Indie five hundred. And
then right now we're kind of inthe pre race of the Coca Cola is
six hundred at Charlotte in the worldof NASCAR, So let's kick it off
and get started in Monaco like theday kicked off today. First of all,
please don't forget to follow us onYouTube. You can do that and
(02:38):
subscribe and hit the little bell thereso you can get all the notifications.
You can follow us on that's right. Michelle's got the sound effects down today.
We also are on Twitter at raceday Nation, Instagram at race day
Nation, Facebook at race day Nation. So now that we're live, you
can interact with us. I actuallyhave the chest pulled up here that we
(03:00):
can see people live chatting with us. So if you have a comment that
you would like to make, pleasedo so. You can put it in
there and we'll talk about it hereon the show. Maybe depends. That's
what they're commenting on. You twosuck. I bring that up. Actually
we've sucked for fifteen years. That'sright, but all good, So don't
(03:28):
forget check us out Race da nationdot com. You can also follow me
at rob Demiko. It's r OB D A M I C O and
Michelle. Where can they follow you? Ma man? It is Michelle ray
Hall. That's am I H E. L E. Ray Hall. R
a h A L. That's onFacebook and on Instagram. It's at Michelle
Ray Hall m I C h EL E r h A L and the
(03:53):
weird number nine. Still haven't figuredthat one out. Gotta gotta get Elon
Musk and his dream team of lawyersto figure this one out. I would
rather have just been what the hell, that's right, it happens. You
move on and everybody's still interacting withyou, which is great. They don't
(04:13):
hate you because they're the number nine, Yeah they do. I hate odd
numbers. Well that's between you andthe number nine. Yeah, and the
three and seven six in front ofit. I'm a happy man. Yeah,
exactly, aren't we all? Aren'tthat? Indeed? All right,
let's start off Monaco a little weatherin the beginning, which I thought was
(04:35):
bizarre because this is F one.We don't have those problems in F one,
and here we are new race control. Uh this is I guess this
was their second rain with this racecontrol, um and um. It just
didn't work out. It was likeeven what. I also give props to
the commentators in F one because theseguys were like, well they call them
(04:58):
out, Yeah, what the hell'sgoing went? On here. I mean,
they thought MASSI did a bad job. And I'm sitting there looking at
this going you got to be kiddingme. I mean, how many races
it's Formula One, they race inthe rain, they start, they do
standing starts in the rain. Theycould have run this race, and you
know, they delayed an hour andthey could have started it right away.
(05:20):
They didn't. But then again, the complexion of that race changed so many
times. It was I thought itwas a brilliant race. Actually I did,
and I predicted it only because theweather people predicted it. But the
little piece I did earlier in theweek, I said, you know,
just watch this. This is goingto be quite the crash fest or a
(05:43):
master class. It was both.It was absolutely both. I mean,
to keep the Formula one on trackin the rain. Your first experience driving
a car in the rain was thefirst time you ever drove a race car.
It was with me as well. And that isn't That is an eye
opener. It really is an eyeopener, but it's also an equalizer.
(06:04):
My car was much lighter than theone you drove. You were driving a
Mustang, if I'm not mistaken, that's right. That had to be a
handful in the rain. Brother,Oh, it was tough and I was
scared to death. And you know, when you're racing a car like that
and you know you don't have themoney to paper crash damage, right,
(06:25):
you get really nervous in a car, and that's not the way you want
to be out there racing. That'sthat's what sucked. I will say this.
When they were racing, they gettingall everything ready. You know,
teams are trying to make the prediction, Okay, is it gonna be intermediate
to be going full wets. Ithink we're gonna have all those tire trolleys
were running up and down pit lanethe whole time. That was if they
(06:46):
start the race under the safety car, if it's going to be a rolling
start in the rain, if theydeem it wet enough, everybody has to
start on full west. They can'tstart on intermediates. It's gotta be full
wet. And that's the way theystarted full wets. Uh and and changing
the tires. I mean that wholething was a super strategy which backfired bid
(07:10):
time. On Ferrari, Frory receiveda giant kicking the balls at Monaco.
That's exactly what happened to and especiallyLeclair. This guy goes into his home
race, he's on the poll,he's leading, and they do this whole
pitch strategy and it's like, sorry, Budd, you're not even on the
podium now, I know. AndRed Bull is just going, thank you,
(07:34):
God, thank you. You know, we would really appreciate this.
And Perez, I mean, I'mreally happy they didn't throw some team order
at you know, at checkout letthe stopping buy. Yeah, I mean,
we're stopping. They knew they weresitting there calculating it, and they
want to keep They want to keepPerez. That was very obvious. Horner
(07:57):
actually came out and said, allhe's got to do to keep that seat
is keep doing what he's doing.And he's done a brilliant job, I
think, and I think everybody wasshocked that Checo was the measure of Red
Bull for the weekend, for theentire weekend. Or Stoppin just couldn't seem
to come to grips. No punintended with that car, even though I
(08:20):
think he drove a brilliant race. They all did, but they managed to
undercut Ferrari. Yeah, you knowwhat's neat in this aspect that the second
drivers on the teams were the guysin front of the main drivers on the
number one drivers. So it wasa big game changer this weekend at Monico.
That was pretty cool. Did youhappen to see Mick schumacherstwoods? I
(08:43):
was just about to say that splitit in hash and he walks away.
But you know, the cars aredesigned to do that. That's exactly what
they're supposed to do. They're supposedto break away, split in half,
and keep the cockpit intact. Thatentire cockpit air area is supposed to remain
intact. Then the engine and theheavy stuff is supposed to move away from
(09:05):
the car. That's what it did. Schumacher managed to walk away from that
and ponder that he was only tencentimeters off, but he apparently hit a
tiny puddle. And at those speeds, you know, at those speeds and
that much horsepower, that's all ittakes, especially at Monico, as narrow
as that track is and as slickas it must have been. You know,
(09:28):
a thousand horsepower car that weighs maybefifteen fourteen hundred pounds somewhere in that
neighborhood is there's no way that youcan do anything, but really bring your
driving skills to bear to keep thatcar on the track and not in that
wall because those walls are right there. Oh it's it's a very difficult track,
(09:52):
no doubt about that. Hey.And after that red flag for Mick
Schumacher's crash, the guys came outof the pits. I've you see,
it was staggered. You had PerezSans Verstappen, Leclair and they Red Bull
guys were actually on the medium tiresand this is another strategy, and the
Ferraris were on the hard tires, thinking, okay, we can get to
(10:15):
the end of the race with thesetires and have something there at the end
for us to really compete and getback in the game. For these guys
at Ferrari and they were gaining, they were gaining. It just didn't work
out the way they wanted it to. And unfortunately Leclair sits outside the top
three and didn't even get the podiumfor his pits. Twice they made a
(10:37):
mistake, you know. Michael Binottowas you know the only thing he could
do was protest Red Bull, claimingthey ran over the yellow lines on pit
exit. Um, it's a bigno, no, but you know race
control said, no big deal. You know they really didn't infringe anything.
(10:58):
They noted it. You know, there was no reprimand no nothing. There
was nothing ferrar It could do.Uh. I would imagine whoever the race
strategist was that called that is indeep crap right now. He had to
take he's eating you know what, that's right? He is, Uh,
(11:20):
he had He was left behind bythe crew on purpose, you might exactly
walking back wherever he came from.I mean, can you imagine, seriously,
can you imagine making a call likethat. You're in the lead.
You could take the world championship, you could you could lead the world championship
by winning. Leclair was absolutely screamingmad on the radio, mad at the
(11:46):
team, mad at the strategy, mad at everybody. And who can blame
the guy he knows for stopping veryvery well. They've raced each other since
they were eight years old. Heknew what was about to happen, and
there was nothing he could do aboutit. But that's Formula one. It's
it's a chess match. And theywere playing against not only each other,
(12:07):
but they were playing against the trackand the weather and everybody's trying to and
then they end up with a blankspot when all their radar screening rains where
they can't see when is somehow thathappened? And so for fifteen minutes or
so they're all blind. They don'thave a clue. Is it gonna rain?
Is it not gonna rain? Isthe mountain gonna shove some rain our
(12:31):
way? It was just it wasbeautiful. That's all I can say.
It was a beautiful race. Iwould like I would love to see Ferrari.
I love to see Ferrari back whereFerrari is. But I have to
tell you, I really like Verstapand I really like his style. He
reminds me of me of Joe Villeneuve. He reminds me of Alonzo. The
(12:54):
guide did a brilliant job. ButCheco Perez can all congratulations to him,
he got his win. I thinkthat he's the first Mexican to win Monaco.
Am I mistaken in that? Ithink, yeah, the first Mexican
to win Monaco. He's his thirdcareer win, bringing him to the winningest
(13:16):
Mexican in the series. Congratulations tohim, and I think this was the
first time the a Mexican one inMonaco. So that's pretty cool for these
guys and amazing. So let mebring up the results here we could talk
about it. We see Sergio Perez, Carlos sans Max verstapp In, Charles
Leclair not on the podium, GeorgeRussell sitting there in fifth, Lando Norris
(13:39):
sixth, Fernando Alonso, great racefor him, ends up seventh, Lewis
Hamilton back there in eighth, ValteriBotas in ninth, and Stabashton Vettle getting
some points, much needed points bythe way. For Aston Martin, I
don't I don't expect him to staywith Aston. No, not unless uh
(14:01):
not, not unless Stroll does somethingeither relinquish his power to you know,
to the team principle, really letshim do what he needs to do,
or takes himself out of the picturesomehow. You know. I know that
I believe Audi was making an attemptto buy them or has made some you
(14:24):
know, suggestions, some forward queriesinto whether or not they could take that
team as a as a factory teamthemselves. I don't know whether Stroll would
sell it or not, because thatwould absolutely mean that his son Lance would
be out of a ride. Yeah, I don't, I don't well,
you know, money does talk, right, so you does it? It
(14:48):
does, It's Formula one. Theother interesting thing is uh Ferrari has actually
admitted that they and the top teamswill not be able to do the season
and meet that budget cap that they'regoing to have to stick. They won't
be able to update the cars ata certain point, and that's going to
(15:09):
bring the midfield teams further up towardsthem. That'll be very interesting to see
because I don't see Formula one orthe FIA relinquishing or adding to that budget
so that they can, you know, keep updating those front running cars.
And you know, the midfield teamshave done well with what they've had and
(15:30):
they're allowed to update, and onceyou hit that budget cap, that's it,
baby, you can't do anymore updating. So three teams aren't getting near
that. They're remaining. They're remaining, you know, below the budget cap.
They've got it planned out pretty well. You know. Gunther Steiner's got
to be over the moon about that. What he's not over the moon about
(15:52):
is Mick Schumacher. Mick Schumacher crashing. It's not that the kid doesn't have
talent. He does, but didhe get tossed into the deep end too
soon. They're about six drivers thathave Frankly, Latifi needs to hang up
the helmet here and step aside.I think Piostra is the one that needs
to take that william seat, andI think Williams will develop that car over
(16:18):
the season. The Latifi needs togo. I mean, I hate to
say that he's a nice guy,but he's not performing. He's crashing all
the time. Too many red flags. You can just about count on Latifi
affecting the outcome of virtually every race. Yeah, so, um, I
don't Did you get to watch thepost race interview with Perez when David Coultart
(16:41):
came up to and said, ohman, you gotta be one of the
most popular guys in Mexico right now, and maybe he should run run for
president. What a great question forthe guy, you know, But he
looked totally like like, I don'treally want to answer that, you know
what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, might want to stay out
of that one. They completely stayout of a Mexican politics. No,
(17:03):
thank you. Our politics are badenough. That's right to drive yourself to
get yourself in the middle of Mexicanpolitics. Uh No, no, thank
you. I didn't get to seethat interview. I was I was actually
in church, so I was makingmyself right with the Lord. Well,
(17:23):
I hope you drank a gallon ofholy water on you know, then you
walk up, you put your littlehand in their man was in the in
the tithing plate. Oh there's aHamburger Tuesday. Yeah, exactly, all
(17:45):
right. Congratulations again goes to uhSergio Perez and the Red Bull team for
getting one in three on the podium, and then obviously Carlos Saints with the
second place for Ferrari and unfortunately McLearsent home mad as hell, and uh,
you know, I don't blame himfor being mad me neither. Did
you see the picture of Signs.Signs is absolutely pissed off two because he
(18:11):
believes he Keithy and Schumacher cost himto win. Yeah, that's what he
thinks. Well, you know, hey, at least Signs got where he
got and he didn't crash out,you know, I mean, because Signs
is another one Ricardo. I don'tthink Ricardo's gonna make it. Man,
he know whatever he had. Youknow, he's questioning himself in public.
(18:34):
That's the last thing you want todo. I mean, Zach Brown brought
up the the you know, themechanisms for escaping that contract and replacing him.
He actually brought that up on hisway to out of Indy and Ricardo
uh Dni actually put up that.Yeah, you know, I feel I'm
(18:56):
feeling that, you know, Ican't get come to grips with this car,
and I'm not doing as well asI should, and I'm losing a
little confidence. The last thing youwant to say in public, what a
nice guy, but don't ever saythat. You know, Yeah, I
feel bad for the guy because thisis a guy that I thought, Oh,
he's gonna make some changes, He'sgonna be put in the car.
(19:18):
You know. Granted he was withRed Bull at the time. Red Bull
wasn't what they are today, buthe was going with McLaren and McLaren was
a team that I know that hecan make things happen, and he came
in as the number one driver. Now Lando is doing a much better job
and handling the position much better thanDaniels, And unfortunately, I have a
(19:40):
feeling that maybe he doesn't end upin that seat and has to go to
a small team. He's not thatthat seat is gonna go to Paddle Award,
I believe. So I was gonnabring that up because we're getting ready
to switch gears over to Indie fivehundred, and they had Paddle Award in
the lead for a little bit andthey thought, oh, this looks good.
(20:00):
Could we have a Mexican for thefirst time, Windy. Yeah,
I kept I kept thinking, I'llgo run, I get some Yeah you
can do that. I'm yeah, yeah, I got you. No more

of the other, you know typesof things. I mean, Montoya is
(21:47):
totally taken with the Big Green Egg. He actually goes to Italy to get
what is it, his briskets,Ye, take it back to Spain so
he can cook it on the BigGreen Egg. It's all. He's a
giant egghead man. He loves it. If you missed that episode, you
can find it on our YouTube channel. Or just go to race day nation
(22:07):
dot com. You can find everythingright there, great stuff there. Okay,
switching gears. Going to the Indiefive hundred today obviously a big day
of racing. We already h recapthe Monaco GP. So now we're moving
forward into the day. You're aboutmid day right now, and sun is
out. It's a great day forracing and the Indie five hundred starts and
(22:29):
they get it going. Which atfirst Scott Dixon on the pole, congratulations
to him, the old guy getsit done. For a while, he
did, he did well again, bad luck constantly follows that poor guy.
I mean when it comes to theInde five hundred, this guy, he's
been in the league so many timesthat he should have he should be six
seven deep with those Inde five hundred. It's no worse than Mario ANDRETTI remember,
(22:55):
Yeah, a two dollar part costhim his second win. It's like
it happens. It really does.I mean that's the whole thing. I've
said it before. All's fair andlove, war and racing, and anything
can happen in love, war andracing. I mean it absolutely can.
You hang in there, you keepfighting, you pick you know if you
(23:17):
feel like you're behind, just keeppushing, digging, digging, digging,
because you never know what's gonna happenin front of you. I saw Paul
dolinback was in front of me andBob Boom. He crashes, loses all
his wheels and he's a friend ofmine too. He's a great guy.
Love the guy. But he losesall his wheels and I'm heading right at
(23:37):
him. He's looking right at me. I knew he'd be gone by the
time I got there. But youknow what, that was my first professional
race and I finished fourth. Andit's all because you got to just hang
in there. It's like it's likea Navy seals man. You never quit
the fight. You never quit thefight. That's right. So the five
(23:59):
gets underway, Dixon drops back alittle bit, but then he's back in
the lead pretty quick. I'm justgoing through my quick notes that I wrote
down the lap thirty nine, firstcrash of the day, Rena's VK hit
the wall and turned two. Prettyhard, man, I mean that was
a pretty hard and in front ofDixon, I thought, oh, Dixon's
getting caught up in this one.But no single car crash and all the
(24:19):
crashes today single cars, which IJohnson was the one that I sat there
and went, oh God, hereit comes, because he went nose first
into that wall and that Yeah, that's just a testament to the strength of
that De Lara chassis. I mean, hats off to d Lara. I
mean that two bills a Hawes Formulaone chassis. So I was really glad
(24:42):
to see that that was just anose cone. You know, it could
have been so much worse. Thatwas really worried for Johnson. So they
had Islet, which is another onewho had a pretty hard crash. He
actually did hurt his wrist a littlebit. He's gonna see what that's all
about. U at that point wascaught on pitt Lane, which is another
guy that I thought, Man,he's been looking pretty strong out throughout the
(25:06):
day. Grojan gotten that crash unfortunatelytakes him out of the race. What's
new, I know, man,I you know, it's weird. I
know the guy. Listen, theguy is very aggressive on the racetrack.
This is talented and he's aggressive, but he I mean, he cost Alonzo
a world championship. Another one hewent right over Alonso's head. All Alonso
(25:29):
had to do was finish that particularrace a number of years ago. He'd
be a three time world champion. But Grojan goes right over the top of
him. I mean it, justif Groshan could just back off just a
little bit and be a little bitmore strategic, I think he would really
really be one of the really strongchargers. He really would be. But
(25:52):
I don't see him changing, youknow, I haven't seen him change since
f one. Then you had ScottMcLoughlin getting that crash, unfortunately for him,
because this was his first Indy fivehundred. Yeah, I's had a
pretty good season so far and Ithought, oh, he's having you know.
It wasn't really thrown out there untilhe started really passing some cars and
(26:12):
I noticed, and this guy's prettyfast working his way up there. And
then had that incident take place.Well, Pinsky knew what he was doing
when he hired him, because hepulled him out of Australian supercars and for
him to be able to adapt tothe indiecars that quickly is a testament to
his ability and a testament to RogerPinsky's faith in him. So the Indy
(26:37):
five hundred, five hundred, youknow, McLaughlin got to feel it see
it. The Ovals scary. Yeah, I mean Indie Indianapolis. You and
I both know how big that trackreally is. Most people don't know.
There's a gigantic golf course in themiddle of it. Yeah, and a
museum. It's huge. And thegolf cours what we play off the golf
(27:02):
course. We didn't play golf onthe golf course, you and I.
We were playing beer can Champion orsomething. Yeah. My brother passes out
on the hill. On the hill. Yeah, the fingers dug into the
hill, he passes out. That'sclassic right there. That's a that's a
season vet right there. When heknows put the claws in there and get
(27:23):
it on the side of the hill. All right. So then we had
UH Colton Herda. He gets parkedfor being too slow just after that crash
on Friday, and the car wasnot the same as a backup car.
It was a car that he wonwith the UH Indie GP. Unfortunately,
you can't get anywhere at that point. Scott Dixon gets busted for speeding on
(27:45):
and here's the penalty. He getsbusted for speeding, has to do a
drive through and that screws up histotal opportunity today with Chip Gnassy racing Scott
Dixon, but it was still um, you know, and very impressive.
I think it was with four togo is when everything got really interesting,
because that's when Yeah, Johnson gotinto the wall hard crash like you mentioned
(28:10):
nose first, always dangerous. Theywere talking about on television as well,
how tough that is to take acrash like that. And that's why one
of the things Jimmy was nervous aboutwas that happening at an oval, because
that's what he didn't come into thesport to work, you know, the
race the ovals, and now hedoes with the Indie five hundred, has
done some others, but they knew, hey, this is one of the
risks that you run. What isyeah, when you wanted himself very well.
(28:33):
I mean, I'll say that anybodythat's got the guts at his age
to dive into an IndyCar which arevery hard to drive, anybody that's got
that kind of tenacity. He wentthrough all the slings and arrows and the
critics about his road racing, butat least he got it under his belt.
He knew what it felt like andhe was familiar with the Ovals and
(28:55):
familiar with the strategies, so itwas sad to see that happened. But
you know, don't rule this guyout on the Ovals from this point forward.
But when it was four laps togo, it was Award really attacking
Ericson. I thought, up,this is it, He's got him.
But that Swede wasn't gonna let ithappen. Man, he did. That's
(29:17):
more emotion than I've seen out ofa Swedish driver in my whole life.
I mean, my old coach wasbertal Ruse. Uh and it was always
they you know, they talked withtheir hands all yeah, they are so
stupid, you know. I mean, and it's very slow and methodical.
But you know, Ericson was cryingand uh, wow, does he have
(29:38):
a smoking hot girlfriend? That's allthat's I kept getting text that girl's Wow,
girlfriend's pretty hot. Oh yeah, there was no doubt about it.
I mean, and she was wearingI know, she had the outfit she
had on. Was that was prettyfetching? I mean, yes, yes,
uh yeah, I was getting sometext about that. I thought that
(30:00):
was pretty interesting. It was prettysimilar to what you normally wear that's right.
Without without those beads. Yeah,I just get into my waist.
Yeah yeah, yeah, keep gettingaround my fat gut nowadays. Man,
I've been working on his dad boughtfor a couple of years, you know,
covid, I know what that's like. I got really good at it.
(30:22):
Hey, speaking of that, wegot our first comment here in the
chat. I'm gonna bring it upon screen and read it live here.
Let's see here. It says fromCooks and Cars, Rob is so handsome
and Michelle, well, he's there, kiss my ass. Hey. I
just wanted to put up a testone to see if it was working.
(30:47):
So if you are watching, knowthat you can post. We do have
some people watching. I didn't noticethat you had there. You're like,
oh, hey, somebody meet him. I thought it my been you know
who? No, no them?Okay, but I will say, um
an x F one driver with Marcusericson winning the race. It was pretty
(31:11):
cool, chipkin Assy. You sawRob Kaufman there, those two walking up
to their co owners in that umuh race team and uh, you know,
just a spectacular moment. And uhyou know that's a guy on a
hell of a job. Yeah he'snot a hell of a job. He
just turned. He's he's as fatas a dad gum hippo from Africa.
(31:33):
Chip, lose some weight. Youwant to live longer, get some of
that weight off. You got twonecks going back there, bro, Yeah,
he's listen, it's it is unhealthy. Let's let's say if you're talking
health, you know, let's behealthy in and because he has put on
a ton of you can see itin his face. I mean, it's
just he's put on a ton ofweight. And yes, I may have
(31:57):
to wear a bro here's short,it's that bad. But again he's got
to kick my ass. Well,it looks like we're not going to the
Christmas party, so that's for sure. All right. Let me look at
the indiecar results here again. Itwas Marcus Ericson with the win Paddo Award,
which I thought would have been reallycool. If he could have pulled
(32:20):
off the win and two Mexicans goingback to back, then we would be
looking for tonight for Daniel Suarez toget the victory lane at Charlotte and have
the three Mexicans. What you know, it could have made a new holiday.
Yeah exactly. Yeah, Tony Cannonthat's exactly it. Tony Canon third,
congratulations Zam. I thought it wasa good run for him, Felix
(32:43):
Yeah, Felix Rosenquest, Alexander Rossie, Connor Daily, the home guy,
Eleo Castroneves going for five, unfortunatelynot his day. Simon Pagino in the
top ten, finishing eighth. Youdidn't hear his name, not once mentioned
during the broadcast with I thought wasweird. And Alex Polo ninth and Santino
Ferrucci, who was actually up fronta little bit battling it out, ended
(33:07):
up rounding out to top ten forthese guys, So some great stuff there
and I thought it was a goodrace that made it very interesting at the
end to see how it went.Um I did. I always am impressed,
and I say this every time we'reat Indy or any oval for that
mentor with with the IndyCar guys, that crew, the medical crew that gets
(33:29):
out there is on scene in secondsmillis seconds of that car coming to complete
stop, and it's amazing. Agood friend of mine out of Savannah,
Georgia, Ricky Times, doctor RickTimes, he was part of that crew
for the longest time and they reallytake what they do very very seriously,
(33:51):
and you know, shout out toRick and Savannah Georgia, awesome job you
did in the past. And uh, did you notice how close the cars
were and that snake train that theywere all trying to break the draft?
Yes, that was very cool.I mean he being Ericson on the last
lap coming around the wall. That'swhat I thought. I'm Mike, is
(34:13):
he paying attention here? Because youcan see paddle Award actually coming out first.
I was like, yeah, yeah, I thought it was a hell
of a good finish. It wasa great race. Nobody got hurt that
I'm glad for Monico was fantastic.I thought, um, you know,
(34:34):
and I believe uh Aberbaijan is comingup next for Formula One. I don't
know where Indie goes next. Theygo to Detroit. Um, they're going
on the bell Aisle. Yeah, this is the last year at bell Aisle,
I believe. And then they goto the streets of Detroit. They're
gonna do a street race there,so that'll be pretty interesting. All right.
(34:55):
So now we're gonna switch gears.Just like the rest of the the
day has gone. We've had threeraces, great Memorial Day, and don't
forget. You could check us outat race day nation dot com, follow
us on YouTube, don't forget tosubscribe and hit the little bell. We
also have Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, ding ding. That's right. He's
(35:16):
got to sound effects all built inhere. And if you're if you're on
watching right now, you can leavea comment. If not, you can
leave a comment later when you dosee this and we'll bring it up on
the next show. We plan ondoing these things live again so we can
get interaction with the fans, becausethat's what we love best is talking to
(35:36):
you guys about this stuff. That'swhat makes us uh pretty interesting. This
is like a hobby for us,and we enjoy doing it. We watched
the races where you love racing. It's in our blood. Can never get
rid of it, right, buthere it is. I do believe,
I swear to you that the rayHalls developed the gene. My father started
the ray Halls racing in the nineteenfifty three, and somehow I think we
(36:00):
were all genetically altered. There havebeen eight ray Halls that raced. Four
professionals, uh, I mean youknow the others were the fathers, basically
Sean ray Hall, he's one ofeven though he spells his name slightly differently,
Um, it is uh, he'sour cousin, so honest to God,
(36:22):
it's it's like a genetic mutation.And wait, I still at my
age, I wake up thinking aboutthat, being in one of the cars
and holding that wheel, and uh, I go to sleep thinking about that,
and women, you must be astud in your dreams. My man.
(36:46):
That was the old days, brother, that was the old days.
That was the old days, allright. So at Charlotte we got the
Coca Cola six hundred, the longestrace you know it was back in the
day. These guys said, Okay, how can we do outdo the Indie
five hundred and we'll go Coca Colasix hundred miles? How about that?
I think it's kind of past thatnow, right, the whole gimmick of
(37:08):
it being the six hundred miles, and they could easily make it five hundred
and be just as interesting. Becauseright now, I agree, we all
know it's that last fifty laps thatthey're all setting up for, that last
fifty laps, and Indy car it'sthe last ten laps they look for,
yeah, or twenty, but it'sit truly is the last fifty laps that
(37:31):
everybody's racing for. And to drivesix, you know, for five hundred
and fifty miles to set up forthat last fifty miles is like, Holy
Moses, anybody can win this one. I mean you've got a lot of
first time winners in the six hundred. Yeah, because it's one of those
(37:51):
things that's not only a race you'reracing against equipment to sometimes you're racing against
the puree in the car, youknow. So there's some cool mints to
it to make this all right.Maybe this is a cool thing to have
its six hundred. There's a littleendurance built in it. You're actually preparing
it days before, you know, eating your car. I'm just drinking water,
you know, you know, takingnice sleep, um and dreaming about
(38:14):
hot women and being behind the wheelthe next day. Sorry, very horse
fantasies, but seriously, you know, shallow. Actually, I think we
got yeah, I think we gotpast all this. You know, six
hundred deal. I think if youwent even four hundred, I don't even
(38:35):
care. But it'll be a longrace. It'll be about four and a
half four and a half hours probablytonight. Um, I just wonder how
many screw ups with those center lockwheels. We're gonna see, Yeah,
pit on pit road because part ofthe problem is when the car heats up,
those tires swell and that's what's causingthis problem. I mean it was
(38:58):
a couple of weeks ago they couldn't. One of the guys was Eric Jones
was in the pits and they hadto literally cut the rim off the car
to get the hub off, whichis it's just ridiculous. Put them seven
laps down? Why even bother atthat point, right, I think this
should be not a difficult fix.It really shouldn't be a difficult fix.
(39:19):
You've got Hawes to to, youknow, to to help with this because
they know what the center locks areall about from Formula one m I remember
we had I had was ran asmall racing team out of Charlotte, North
Carolina, a road racing team.Uh and ed Zinc God rest his soul,
(39:39):
What a beautiful man, what awonderful man. We developed a special
wheel wheelgun, center lock wheelgun forWillie. You're not gonna believe this right
now. What I was staring atis that the actual the cup races on
at the moment and Daniel Suarez isleading right now. There you go on
(40:00):
today, and that's not a racistthing. But if you got to get
hell for that, I know it'snot. It was just one of those
things politically correct. And you know, if people can't laugh at themselves,
I mean, I'll laugh at myselfall the time, what's not I laugh
at you quite often. I knowyou do. I mean, you know,
(40:22):
but it was like that I wasgay. It was a Mexican celebration
because of the three Mexicans I couldhave won today. That's what I was
getting at. I know what youwere getting. Okay, I want to
clarify just in case I don't needany politically you got correct police on my
ass. Who gives a crap letter? You know? I mean that canceled
(40:42):
culture, they can go to hell. Yeah all right, so I canceled
me real quick. Exfinity was therelast night, the truck race. I'll
be honest with you. It sucked. I didn't like it. Um the
Exfinity race. Josh Berry put ona great race there with his teammate,
Uh justin all guy who ended upfall go back to seventh. But it
was Josh getting the win. TyGibbs's second. Sam Mayor ended up third,
(41:06):
Noah Gregson was fourth, Ryan Priestwas fifth, Daniel Hemrick sixth,
Justin All Guy as I said, seventh, Sheldon Creed eighth, Trevor Baine
was ninth, and Mayatt Snyder roundedout the top ten. So what does
that do for points now? Well, A j Almaninger is still your points
leader with five hundred and thirty.Noah Tye, Justin Allguy or Josh moves
(41:29):
up, Sam Mayor, Brandon Jones, Austin Hill, Riley Herb's, Rayhall's
buddy, and Daniel. See ifyou could actually pronounce it straight, I
got it, But that's all buddy. My name Michelle. I mean,
I got no right to laugh atanybody, but you know I probably would
(41:52):
change the last name a little bit. Yeah, tweaking is something, all
right? So uh, today's uhthe Coca Cola six hundred. Obviously the
endurance race. We've been talking aboutit. They started today with Denny Hamlin
on the pole, Kurt Busch,Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, William Byron,
Austin Cindric, who's a name wehaven't heard and quite some time.
(42:13):
It's amazing. That's true, BubbaWallace seventh, Tyler Reddick, Alex Bowman,
and Michael McDowell round out your topten. I want to make some
notes here because at the back ofthe field you have Kyle Larson and Brad
Keslowski, and that should be prettyinteresting to watch, Not so much Kyle
Brad Keslowski, but Brad Kyle Larsonbecause he's coming from the back and uh
(42:38):
didn't get it. They have tochange cars or something. They had to
repair to hell out of that thing, so he didn't go to a backup
car. They literally tore half behindthe doors, basically all the way back
off and put a new body inshellback on. So pretty amazing with those
guys did over the nighttime and gothim back in and now he's participating in
(42:59):
the race and he's, you know, gonna come from the back. We'll
see how it all plays out today, but tonight, I should say,
with this uh race going on now. But so that's I think that's pretty
much it with today's race. I'mtrying to think if there was any news
and rumors out there that were floatingaround. You know, we talked about
at the beginning, Key is gonnamake his first Cup start with the track
(43:24):
House racing and walkins Glenn. Allof a sudden he gets a call and
he's like, yeah, do it. Yeah, I love to do it,
kemmy yeah, yeah, do youwant to race? Yeah? I
love too. That's it. He'sa man of few words, unless you
get a few drinks in him,then he su Yeah. He's a he's
(43:47):
definitely a party animal. Because theiceman cometh. He's coming a NASCAR and
I bet he does quite well atthe Glenn and even in the heavy car
like that. Yeah, that's partof that Project ninety one, which is
ahead in the Lama. Uh,they're gonna race that Camaro out there.
So I think that's setting all thisup. And you know track House,
Justin uh Marks, the guy whoowns that with the pit Bull, Um
(44:12):
he's no no pit Bull, Yeah, the singer, he's part owner in
track House. Yeah, I didn'tnot a Dutch team track House, No,
no, no, it's Justin Marksowns it. He's been in NASCAR.
He's just uh he's doing like theSTEM program stuff and uh he's got
some money behind it, but fromsome of these guys. But I gotta
(44:35):
tell you what he's doing, right, Now, granted he did buy this
equipment from chip Ganassis, so hestarts off better than correct um. And
but this is a really good teamand they have a great opportunity with some
of these international drivers that they wouldlike to bring to the table, which
I think is great. I loveit. I love you know. The
(44:57):
big story for me today UM wasat uh Monico. I wanted I really
wanted to see Leclair win that racebecause home guy Ferrari's doing well. It's
great for the sport, right,it would be great move to Indy.
You know, I wasn't sure Ireally wanted there, but once Pato Award
was up near the front, Ithought, man, I really like to
see that Mclair and get to victory. Lane Zach Brown was there. You
(45:21):
knew this was very important to them, and I thought, Okay, this
is an opportunity for them to reallyshine and make a name for themselves.
And they just couldn't pull it off, which I all the f one people
were watching that as well. Yeah, absolutely, I mean because they they
are. He's earmarked, let's faceit, to take Daniel Ricardo's place.
And I feel terrible for Ricardo becausehe's such a great guy and awesome.
(45:47):
You know, he basically said, when I'm done, I think I'm done.
You know, he'll be in Americafor probably most of the time.
He loves it here. Yeah, particularly loves Texas. I was gonna say,
he is a big Texas boy.He loves barbecue, he loves Texas,
he loves the number three. Hewas a big NASCAR fan. I
(46:08):
mean, this guy, I couldactually see him moving over into NASCAR,
because I really do think, yeah, yeah, because it happen. He's
loved this sport. He's got plentyof connections here. He could probably pull
that off if he really The otherthing about Monaco was, if you took
a good look at it, whatdid George Russell do again? Whiney little
(46:30):
bitch that he is? I thinkopinion back, No, I'm not,
but he he's beating Hamilton steadily.Everybody says, well, you know,
all the Hamilton fans are like, well, that's because you know, Lewis
has never driven a car that wasbad, and now he's got a bad
(46:51):
one. Well that's too bad. He's won seven World championships and he should
be able to overcome what he's done. Absolutely, Russell has driven crap when
that was the Williams and now he'sgot what he considers a decent car,
even though Lewis's believes it's crap andso does Toto Wolf. But Russell's just
outperforming him. That has got tobe working on him mentally. It really
(47:15):
does surprised if, if truly ifthey don't get that car really dead sorted
out, because I think Mercedes ison that bubble as well, running into
the budget cap, so there's gonnabe a point where that they get to
where they can't update it anymore.I got a feeling that Hamilton might might
(47:38):
retire. He's got too many otherthings going, too many other interests.
You know, he's an activist, all the Hollywood stars or friends of his,
so you know, I think he'sgot a lot of other interests that
he'd he'd rather do and that'd befun. Fun with me. Well,
I'm down with that too, becausethis is a guy to listen, he
(47:59):
got seven championships. Like you said, he's sitting there. George is doing
a much better job at being thenumber one driver, if you will.
Yeah, and I really do thinkthat Hamilton might have been a little pissed
off that Alonso was in front ofhim, and there was no way Alonso
(48:20):
was gonna let Hamilton get by,and he didn't. I mean that just
had to. Even though Hamilton saysnot, I wasn't frustrating. No big
deal. It's a big deal.Mentally. It works on somebody at that
level, it works on you. What I thought was neat in that race
as well as they were saying, well, you know, Alonso was making
the car really wide and he's backingsome people up. That man was saving
(48:45):
some tires for the end of thathe was doing. Yeah, what he
was doing, he was for fifteenlaps. He had to conserve and then
blow it out for fifteen That guyis incredible because he can call a race
from the cockpit. He amazed Ferrarithat he actually could call the strategy and
make them, the guys on Ferrari'spitwallops look bad. And Bonoda said to
(49:09):
because Boda has been with Ferrari fora long time. All right, well,
hey, great stuff with the liveshow. We do appreciate it.
And again, if you're watching, you kid, actually chat with us in
the comment section. You could puta comment in there and we would definitely

(49:52):

He baked those the ribs, gotthem all, you know, smoked
them, got all done. He'ssitting on the couch with the wife datter
t shirt on. Here's Born ofthe side drooling on him. Yeah,
he knows I can get a goodthree hour nap in and then watch the
end of this race. It's gonnabe a good one. And he's not
(50:15):
lying. You can do that.Yeah, have a two and a half
hour nap and the race is stillgoing on. That's right, all right,
