Speaker 2 (00:17):
This is the Brian Mud Show as we are honoring
our fallen heroes protecting the Palm Beaches on this Friday,
and this weekly tribute is to recognize those who have
paid the ultimate price in service of their communities, but
also service a reminder of what are police do resk
every day they leave their homes, they leave their families,
(00:38):
they go to work, to put in a badge, never
knowing what might happen next, and far too often that
has been something horrific. Last year, line of duty deaths
rose by seventeen percent nationwide. We had five additional LODs
in Florida. Across the country, three hundred and forty two
officers were shot in the line of duty last year,
an eight percent increase over the previous year, and in total,
(00:59):
on hunch and sixty five heroes were lost nationwide, including
eight in Florida. So far this year, twenty one law
enforcement professionals have fallen in the line of duty, including
one in Florida, and over the previous week, well, we
have this unfortunate story.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Paleo Garcia, south Fulton police lieutenant is being remembered as
a hero after losing his life in the line of duty.
Garcia was killed in a head on crash when another
driver crossed into his lane. Garcia leaves behind a wife
and three children who called him the steady heart of
their lives and thanked the community for its support.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah, Fox is Ted Linda on the report there. So Yeah,
in Fulden County, Georgia, Lieutenant Helio Garcia, and he does
leave behind a wife and three children. And about that.
As we honor those we've lost, we also remembered their families.
The average age of a fallen law enforcement professional is
only thirty nine years old with nine years of service,
(02:01):
and they have left behind this year twelve widows in
twenty seven children greeting the loss of a parent. So
this is the weekly reminder to back the badge and
spread the word, because Lauren know's we need them just
as much as they need us.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
All Right, let's get a look at your Florida headlines.
A sheriff's deputy's son in custody after allegedly shooting and
killing two people, wounding six more at Florida State University
in Tallahassee. Leon County sheriff says the gunman is the
son of one of his deputies. Shot by police, hospitalized,
expected to survive and face charges now. Eichner is was
a member of the Sheriff's Youth Advisory Council Phoenix. Eichner
(02:39):
he was engaged in a number of their training programs.
Officials say that gun that was used in the shooting
had previously been Eichner's mother's service weapons. She had bought
it for her personal use. Governor de Santa, sending prayers
to the FSU community, posted a video to x yesterday
saying ENA's family or mourning those who were killed, praising
law enforcement's response, and promising the killer will be punished
(03:00):
to the fullest extent of the law. Closer to home,
two students at Wellington High facing charges after bullets were
found on campus yesterday. School district police received a tip
and the students now face criminal charges. A search found
no weapons on campus. No school today for what the
school district calls a spring holiday on this good Friday,
(03:20):
and the heats there on the verge of making the
NBA postseason team, tipping off against the Hawks, and the
latest play in game tonight from Atlanta. The winner will
advance to take on the top seeded Cavaliers Round one
from Cleveland. Those are your headlines.
