Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now now, I tell you what it's been a it's

(00:02):
been a busy morning in here and we are continuing
with the with the busyness because we've just caught up
with the canine unit of the Northern Territory Police. But
I am so excited to say because this weekend is going.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
To be massive when it comes to footy.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
We caught up with the chairman of afl n T
Sean Bowden a little bit earlier this morning and we
know this weekend Saint Mary's set to take on the
Nightcliff Tigers in the Women's Premier League Grand Final, the
season finale, or final, whatever you want to say, is
kicking off at four point fifteen at TiO Stadium and
the Tigers they are on the brink of their first

(00:40):
women's premiership following one of the most memorable preliminary finals
in recent memory. I was there on the weekend and
the women were awesome. Joining me in the studio right
now is to Shinter Kendall. Good morning to you, to Shinter.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Good morning, thank you for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Lovely to have you in the studio. And of course
I've got c J. Thirsty Land where.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Good morning to you morning Christy I should say, I
do apologize I was so concentrating on your surname, but
I know that we all call you CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Right, everyone knows you're CJ. Ladies. How you're feeling head
of the weekend? Wow, you're pumped, so pumped.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Is so exciting that we're in the position that we
are to be playing off in a grand final? Yeah?
I mean I've played at Nacliffe the last three seasons
and this has always been something that has been the goal.
So yeah, it's so so exciting.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
What about you to Shinty, You're feeling the same way.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah? Absolutely. I think the attitude around the club has
just been excitement. We've got two of our under eighteens teams,
our boys and girls playing tonight yep, But unlike Cj'
this is my first year at Nightcliff, so different, but
the same attitudes. We're all very excited.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah right, So who are you playing for? Before?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
So I actually moved up here from Queensland, So I
actually met CJ and a few of our girls playing
in the koffl and just decided to come up for
the year. And here we are.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
How wonderful do you know?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I've loved hearing that actually over the last couple of
weeks is the way that the population actually grows and
the you know, players moving to the Northern Territory to
play footy.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I think that's a wonderful thing to see.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, absolutely, especially up here, you know, the culture around
Darwin and just how laid back everything is. All different.
People come up here and just seem to enjoy it
so much.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah. Hey, last Saturday, it was an awesome game.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I mean, you girls looked so consistent, You were so like,
your ball handling was so safe in terms of no,
you know, not sort of dropping the ball. You just
looked like you were there to play. You weren't there
to muck around, and you got the result that you
were after. Are we expecting more of that this weekend?
What's the game going to be like?

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Oh yeah, I mean definitely expecting more than that. I
think we've come into the pointy end of the season
playing our best footy, so lots to be excited about,
and hopefully we can continue that into Yeah, this Grand Final.
We played Saints not too long ago in the pre

(03:08):
so yeah it was it was a really really good
game and we definitely had moments in that game that
we were really happy with, but yeah, time to put
it all together.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
So it's it been a few things you've been working
on this week at training that you really want to
make sure that you execute on the weekend.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Absolutely, I think we've been working on everything and building
as the season progresses. I think we've won at the
right times and we've lost when we needed to because
it taught us a lot of valuable lessons and each
week just building on those things, tweaking things, sticking to
our systems, but also understanding that, like we're a group
of very talented players, and our coaches have been really

(03:45):
collaborative in their efforts with our players and in terms
of how we play in our structure. So definitely learned
a lot from that game, but also every game that
we've played in.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Terms of looking at your opposition, I know, it's like
it's always a tough thing as you go into a
Grand Final. You know you're thinking about yourselves and what
you need to do when you look at your opposition.
I mean, are there any players that you're sort of
going to be keeping a really close eye on or
trying to keep a lid on how you're feeling when
you look at the St. Mary's team at the moment.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
I mean, yeah, Saints are really talented team. They've shown that.
I mean, what sixteen games in a row they've won, so,
I mean that's no easy feat. But we have faith
in our game and our structure. I think we're just
we're gonna just kind of not stray far from what
the type of football game that we want to play,

(04:37):
make sure that we're still sticking to our style. But yeah,
I guess keeping an eye on them and shutting them
down when we need to will be the aim.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yep, It's going to be an exciting game now.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
I mean for you guys, you made the Grand Final
three years ago, you've not won a flag yet. Does
that play on your mind as you're headingto Saturday or
do you try not to think too much about it
and just concentrate and go out there firing no matter what.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
We've had a lot of change at the club since
that time that I wasn't at the club then, and
there's been a turnover of girls, and Shannon Miller was
coaching the team then and now we've got Rocky in
that position. So it's really it's really a new experience
for everyone and we're just embracing it as the journey
that this year has been and yeah, hopefully we can write.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
A piece of history.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
One of the big prevailing themes that I've kind of
like echoed throughout the club this entire season is all
the women that came before us. Our captain spoke about
that earlier this week, and I think we really do
carry their strength and their determination throughout us and it's
a big driving factor for the girls that are there currently.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
It's really nice. It's a beautiful thing to hear.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
One of the things I really liked actually when I
was there watching on Saturday last week and there's you know,
there's always so many people there from all different places.
But what I noticed watching you girls on the weekend
is the number of girls that are actually in your
junior teams that were there watching. That must be a
really beautiful thing for you guys to see to, you know,
like to look at the young girls and the way

(06:11):
that they're watching you and looking up to you and thinking,
you know, like in a couple of years, if not already,
you know, they're going to be on the cusp of
joining your side, aren't they.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yeah, it's so exciting and it was a massive focus
this year for women's Premier League players to be involved
in the junior side of things. That was a massive
push from Rocky and I think that it's really step
the tone for not only the senior program, but for
the junior program too, because there's so much support that
we get from them, and you know, on game day,

(06:43):
they're the only thing I hear on the side. You
to hear them screaming for you, and it's just the
best feeling ever.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
So how good. That's so nice?

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Or now to shinter cj any rituals, anything that you
do ahead of Saturday to make sure you have good luck.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
We're actually Halfnates as well. You do a little like
bacon and egg Brecky have a little boogie in the house. Yeah,
so I know, unofficial official.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
As a team, we like to get into the changing rooms,
put on some music, enjoy each other's company because that's
you know, a big part of our game is together
in us. You know what we say, it's just us.
So it's just really nice to have that time together
before we get out there and you get to work.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
And always a little bit of a boogie before we have.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Is there any any particular song that you like to have.
There's been a few.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Parts. Has been in charge of the tunes, but I
do know we do a bit of everything I'm written.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
It's always a good one, never too much Luther Vandross.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, a good stuff for all the best for the weekend.
I hope you have a fantastic game. I really appreciate
you both joining me in the studio this morning. Thank
you so much for your time, Thanks for having us.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Thank you
