Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now we know the Australian women's cricket team is going

(00:02):
to start preparations for their fifty over World Cup defense
with a five day camp in the Northern Territory later
this month. Their visit to the Top End is going
to include a cricket clinic at DX Arena as well
as a two day trip to Kakadoo. And joining us
on the line to tell us more is Anti Cricket
CEO Gavin Dovey. Good morning to you Gave.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Good morning Katie, mate.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
This is fantastic news. How big a coup is this
for the Northern Territory.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, it's huge, Katie. And obviously hot off the announcement
about a month ago that we got the Isralie men's
tein playing T twenty Internationals here in August. Yeah, we're
delighted that the Israline women's teams also decided to make
the most of preparing up here in the Top End.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
So tell us a little bit about what they're going
to get up to while they're here.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Well, you know, they're just announced their contract list, so
eighteen players for the next next year that will be
arriving into Darwin and for them it's about setting goals,
resetting as a group and casting their eye towards a
fifty over World Cup later in near in India. So
they'll be coming together off their sort of off season break,

(01:18):
looking forward and doing some physical preps, tactical prep, and
looking about how they go and claim their eighth World Cup.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
And I mean it all sounds like it's going to
be fantastic and such like, such a great thing I
think to have them here, not like not only for
the broader cricket community, but for like the young girls
that play crickets.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean, I don't know if there's been
too many more successful Australian female team sports than cricket,
and this Australian team has I said, as one seven
fifty over World Cups, they've won sixty twenty World Cups,
and they've just been an incredible team. And yeah, a
great opportunity for our next sort of generation of young

(02:02):
female athletes to get close to their heroes and see
them up close. So we're delighted to host them.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
So are people going to be able to attend that
clinic that they're having or will it be open to
the public.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, we're just working through the details of that now,
certainly our cricket community will definitely get an opportunity, so
there'll be some clinics for the younger cohorts as well
as the older generation to engage with the team. But
we're just working through the final details around how we
can potentially open that up and give everyone here in

(02:36):
dah And the chance to come down and meet Alpa
Healy or a Best Money or a Leash Perry, whoever
it may do. They've got some incredible talent in the team,
so we will certainly do our best to try and
make the most of the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
How good and then they're heading to Kakadu as well.
What are they going to get up to while they're there.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, I mean, I think the Australian women's team's being
really good in this space, sort of constantly trying to
learn and evolve, and they've got a strong interest in
the sort of first as space, so they were really keen,
you know, obviously being in this part of the country
to spend some time out in community. So we're sort

(03:17):
of working with them on a couple of days out
in Kakadu where I know they're going to be doing
some different cultural experiences, spending some time at the school
and you know, obviously Ash Gardeners in the group, you know,
one of Australias mo successful indigenous atholutes. So you know,
I think they're going to just try once they finish

(03:39):
their sort of prep, I think, get get out to
Kakador and enjoy a few days together with some cultural experiences.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, how awesome. I think it's wonderful to have them
here in the Northern Territory. And I know it's not
the only thing that's been happening when it comes to
cricket here in the end, to the Australian men's cricketers
with an intellectual disability. That team's just completed along training camp,
a week long training camp here as well, haven't they.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah they have, Yeah, just just wrapped up last week.
And again I think it just speaks to the opportunity
that we think exists up here Kadi, you know, to
make the most of the dry season of weather which
is perfect for cricket. So you know, they had a
fantastic camp. They don't often get the opportunity to get
together as a group. Their schedules maybe not as full

(04:25):
as some of those other teams, so when they expressed interest,
we were only too happy to work with them on
making that possible. They played a few games against their
academy which was a great experience and that a roll
into the Australian women's team being here and we've already
talked throughout the men, so there will actually before Australian
teams here throughout the course of the year and again

(04:46):
that's a great opportunity for us to showcase what we
think the territory offer is a sport.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
What sounds that there's plenty happening for you, Gavin at
when it comes to cricket in the Northern Territory. There's
lots going on, seem to be getting plenty of people
from around Australia, plenty of cricketers from around Australia here
to experience the NT.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, I mean that's that's the opportunity we think, you know,
cricket offers it. It's a huge sport, at global sport.
You know, there's building defense around the world that are
incredibly passionate about it and we're the only only country
that can play cricket all ye all year rounds and
so we want to try and make sure that we
continue to promote and advocate that opportunity. We think it

(05:30):
will deliver a number of benefits for the territory and
this year is probably the watershed year for us, I reckon.
So if we can do a good job, I think
you know there's going to be plenty more of these
opportunities in years to come.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Good stuff. Well, good on you NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey.
Always good to catch up with you mate, Thanks so
much for your time this morning, Brian, Thanks Katie, thank
you
