Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Cruelsy are performing at Freo Prison this Saturday. Tickets
are available through Ticketmaster. Tax Perkins is joining us now.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good morning, good morning, indeed, how are you good?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Congratulations on the album The Honeymoon is over celebrating its
thirtieth birthday. I can't quite believe it because I still
very clearly remember when it came out. But do you
I mentioned before that it won five ARIA Awards at
the ninety four Arias. Do you remember this moment? We

(00:30):
read in the paper yesterday that we're expected to clean
up at these awards, So if you could help both
stacking your chairs and pick.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Our bast phrase.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
That was that was ken when you accepted the Best
Album award, so clearly not taking it too seriously on
the night.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah, well, I think we were well, indeed we were.
It was predicted that may make her, I mean it was,
I think we we we swept the pool because basically
the Pharnzies and the barn Zi's, and the inexcesses and

(01:12):
the and the crowded houses of that that had their day,
and the silver chairs and the and the look urgitators
and the new ms and the savage gardens, they yet
to come yeah, I was gonna say.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
So we had we had a gap.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Of about two years which it was sort of was ours.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, I think that's a touch modest, But anyway, I.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Couldn't do anything wrong though with that album and then
the Three Legged Dog and to strike the number one mode.
It was a little it was a sweet little purple patch,
wasn't it.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yes, And they expect the The Three Legged Dog anniversary
too in a couple of.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Years, of course.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
It's yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Look it's been thirty years and I still have yet
to see a sexier film clip than the Honeymoon's Iver
text perk. Now it's the brands, it's the bands, I
should say, first proper tour in a decade. Why has
it taken so long? And how has it been getting
back on the road together. It's like riding a bike.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well, riding a bike with that needed the tires pumped
up and the train had gone, the chain had got
definitely gone rusty. But no, I've taken us a while, well,
I guess mainly because one of our members, James Crookshank.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Passed away eight years ago.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, so I mean that was the biggest hurdle to
get it over and and I don't know. We just
all went on and did other things in them. And
then there's a very very persistent promoter called Dwayne McDonald's.
So you get the cruise, so you're back together and
get to the thirtieth anniversary. And I said, oh, well,

(02:51):
it's not as simple as that. But anyway, we decided
to ask my very good friend and good friend of
the band, and we've known him since the nineties, Matt Walker. Yeah,
great great musician, great guitar player, great great human being.
He's he's joined the band and and and it's taking

(03:16):
the place well, no one can take.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
The place of Crookers.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Exactly, but.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
It's it's it's going well.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
We've done four shows now and it's getting better and better,
and I think we'll be peaking by the time we
get to Free.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
That's what we want to hear, Mane. Now, I remember
seeing those two nights with the Stones at Perry Lakes
was nineteen ninety five, so you know a lot has changed.
Lost lost James and lost Charlie Watson, lost Perry Lakes itself.
It's all houses now, but they were. That was a
couple of great nights, Mane. You must have fond memories
of it.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
We did two nice did Yeah, there.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Was I remember I was there both nights, just one
big night for he wasn't.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Well well a little while ago.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
But I particularly remember about that one because I was
we were being the support man. We were privy to
the stone sound checks and and they'd always play music
that they didn't play in the actual show. They would
play sort of you know, like a obscure more obscure tracks,

(04:20):
which was like a real treat. And they also just
play the music without putting on a big show and
you know and running around and you know, they actually
play the songs.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
And it was I was adored the sound checks, especially.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Way more than the Muddy Waters or something here we go.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, well, you know, things like fool to Cry, which
they didn't put in.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
The show, things like that. It was as a stone
sand it was. It was a real treat.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah. Uh, I think you just might have wrapped up
another tour of a Man in Black. I read and
now you've got the Cruel Sea shows and I'd love
to see some more Lady Boys stuff. Is it keeping
it mixed up that keeps you so fresh?

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Absolutely, as boring as this saying is, but It's true.
It changes as good as a holiday, especially for me,
which I can't afford to take holidays. But actually, any
holidays that I give my family, it's a working holiday.
It's usually done. You know, let's go to Africa. I'm

(05:33):
playing in Africa, and yeah, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
So, I mean, but I just feel very fortunate and
I'm very grateful that I do have all these things
and this history that I can revisit, and especially with
the Cruel Sea, but all these things that a bit
of time goes by and then I come back to

(05:57):
I get to I get to view it and I
get to participate in it with a completely fresh perspective.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, wonderful.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
I sit down. They're doing the same set every night,
with the same line time exactly.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
We haven't been channing it out all this time. It's
it's all all this all this stuff is like wow,
And I kind of understand why it worked more now
than than when I was in it.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
What's happened? Yeah, I can.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Sort of have an objectivity of the of the work
and our work. Yeah, and I kind of get why
it worked.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Things things text can change pretty quickly, too, So I
was just remembering chatting with you, getting you to sign
a shirt for Lisa here by the Sea at City
Beach two years ago, and we're having a bit of
a chat. And that was the night that Pete Murray
got esco escorted after he said off the stage by
the police because he had COVID or there was.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
A COVID scathing else there was a COVID scare.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
And I was remembering how much fear they were backstage
and it was so bizarre. But you must really love
the fact that the fans are just out there and
just can do you know, pretty much whatever right now?

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, oh absolutely.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
COVID was a big crippler for the for many people,
but especially the music industry.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
We're still getting over it really actually. I mean it's.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
The landscape is different after COVID. I mean everything's more
expensive as well. But now, yeah, we're very very grateful
to be able to play in front of people, and
lots of people too.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Well, we're very grateful to have you coming back to
town for prison this Saturday. It makes me a little
bit sick to think that the honeymoon is over. Is
thirty a little.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Bit, well, not a big it's not a large amount
of time as we absolutely.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Realized true true to scare me.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah yeah, season.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
It wouldn't be funny if we were still here talking
to you on the fight about that text. That would
be right, let's make it out.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Definitely will be at the show anyway. So tickets through
Ticketmaster with the cruel say at for a prison This
saiday night God text Perkins, thank you good to talk.
