Speaker 1 (00:06):
Today's podcast is a little different to normal. Usually on
a Thursday it would be a doctor's desk conversation where
we unpack the latest science. Today we're going to unpack
something else it arrived in the mail. Today is an
unboxing and unboxing on the Happy Families Podcast. You won't
be able to see it, but you will be able
to hear it, and we think it might be one
of the most important boxes we've ever unpacked. Hello, Welcome
(00:27):
to the Happy Families Podcast, Real Parenting Solutions every Day.
This is Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast. We are Justin
and Kylie Colson. I'm not going to even pretend that
this is nothing other than a pure sales pitch today,
but it has nothing to do with us. We have
a platform, being Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast, where we
can tell you about things that matter, things that can
(00:48):
change lives. And Kylie, we've been through something that has
been life changing, which is why I now do some
of the work that I do, specifically with a group
called Gotcha for Life.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
November six, twenty twenty three literally rocked our worlds as
we were awoken to the news that Justin's nephew had
taken his life, and as a result of that experience,
the conversations that we have with our children, the conversations
that we have with others has changed. It's different and
(01:22):
the opportunity that you have to work closely with Gotcha
for Life is an absolute reaction to that experience, but
one that we hope will actually make a difference in
lives of people all around.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
The world such privileged to work with. Gus Wallen to
the team at Gotcha. For those of you who are
not familiar with Gotcha for Life, they're based out of Sydney,
but they do work up and down the East Coast
and across the nation wherever they can. The goal of
Gotcha for Life is to bring suicide to zero in Australia.
Some people say that's ridiculous, you can't do it. Gus
is undeterred. Why because when you have been through it,
(01:57):
you just don't want anyone else to ever ever go
through it.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
The idea that we could bring that number to zero
feels extreme, It feels so far fetched, it feels so
unbelievably unachievable. And yet just the very fact that we
have that goal, that that there is somebody or a
group of people who are desirous to do that means
(02:23):
that a life will change as a result of this. Yep,
and one less life lost to suicide. It's worth it.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
So let's get to the point of what today's podcast
is about. It's an unboxing. Got your Full Life have
a relationship with Chemist Warehouse. Chemist Warehouse as a chemist
have relationships with pharmaceutical and self care companies all over
the place. And each year, at this time of the year,
if you go into a chemist Warehouse, you will find
(02:59):
box with the Gotcha for Life logo on them, this
Men's care box. In fact, let me have a look
at the box that I've got right here on my
lap because it just arrived in the post today. Gotcha
for Life Men's Care Box supporting men's mental health from
Chemist Warehouse. You can buy it for twenty dollars and
all money raised from the sale of these boxes goes
(03:22):
to Gotcha for Life and doing the important work of
inspiring meaningful conversations about the importance of opening up and
sharing what's really going on. I love what Gus and
Chemist Warehouse and Gotcha have done, and each year they
send me one so that I can tell people about it.
When I've got a platform this big, I'm going to
tell people about it. So Kylie, I'm going to dig
into the box. You can make any commentary about it,
(03:43):
because I might not know what all these self care
products do, because I don't care for myself that well
when it comes to this sort of stuff I'm opening,
I could probably groom better. Look at this. The first
thing I've pulled out is something from Swiss, the multivitamin company.
It's I don't know how to say it, luronic acid
skin glow. I'm going to get a glow up. It's
(04:03):
got vitamin C from Aceerole. It contributes to normal collagenformmation
and healthy glowing skin in peach flavor that is in
the box. Each that in and of itself. Just to
highlight this is a twenty dollars gift box. This thing
would cost you twenty dollars or more just for the
just for the glow up.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
I was literally just going to look that up right
now because I know how expensive these are.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Good luck spelling it as well as that. Oh look
that there's a sampler of you remember yup the toilet.
Oh nice, I'm going to be smelling way nicer than
I normally do with the yup. I've got a Listerine
Total Care ten and one. It's one hundred miles of listerine,
which means you can even take it on a plane
overseas and be allowed to use it. I'll look at this.
There is a Gillette skin guard razor, three steps to it,
(04:49):
all the great shaved stuff that's said. Holy smokes, I'm
not going to be able to fit this on the
desk here.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
So I'm still stuck on your hydra.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I can't say it either. On the Ironic Yep.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Acid skin glow. They retail for twenty three dollars, so
literally that one product gives you your money back.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
You know how much it costs for a Gillette razor. Yeah, okay,
there's also, like I said, the listenerine, there is a
I call it a shower puff that's probably not what they're.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Puff would be.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Shower puff puff a men's exfoliating sponge. I got one
in last year's box and I'm still using it. It's
one of the best ones I've ever used. I'm just
saying it's a really good one. Spend forty nine dollars
there's a there's a Gotcha flyfe special. You can get
thicker full of hair. You can get a discount with Nihox.
And there's some twenty band aid strips. There's a Fuss
(05:37):
Free Naturals Original Man Mask. This is a mask that
goes over your face. But it's beard friendly. Not that
I'll ever have a beard. You won't let me, you
won't kiss me if I have a beard. There's a
skin control pimple patch. We've got some goat soap with
lemon myrtle. When I say goat soap.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Oh, that's what I can smell. As soon as you
opened that box up, it was instant.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Okay, so I mean the goat soap's there. There's there's
also white glow whitening toothpastes in there. The laureal Men
Expert Intense Relaxing Shower Jel. I love that. It's intensely relaxing.
How do you have something less intensely relaxing that feels
a little bit too. There's also the dentist Formulated Fresh
Breath oral rints from Thorough Breath. I think I've said
(06:19):
that right. I hope I got that right. There is
some freshwater farm Australia, Lemon Myrtle and Manica honey body bar.
Oh no, that's the smell. Oh my goodness, it smells
lemon Myrtle. I could if I.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Just have to correct you if I die Manuka, Manuka?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
What do I say Manica? In Camper they say Monica.
There's a couple of Bond Eye, Protein Company, Collagen and
protein bars. There's also a couple of level Up hydrations,
and last, but not least, there is a Headgear high
performance matte shaper for men with hair like mine. I'm
going to check that all back into the box. Now,
(06:55):
twenty bucks for the whole thing. I mean, I don't
know one hundred dollars worth of gear in there for
twenty dollars. I mean it's great because you get a bargain,
but I think the main thing is it actually makes
a difference in the lives of people who who need it.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
I want, so I spend my twenty dollars to get
one of these boxes. Where does that money go to?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
It goes to Gotcha and all of it. Yeah, yeah,
they donate the lot Chemists warehouse doesn't keep anything here.
This is a donation. These brands, White Glow and Headgear
and listenerin Laurel and My Oxen and Swiss and Fuss
Free Naturals and My Beauty in Calvin Klein and Thera
Breath and Jillette and Go It's Open whoever else fresh
Water They have all donated. So this is a donation
(07:33):
so that Gotcha can continue to do the really important
work that they do as we work towards a suicide
free future. I just think it's great.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I don't know if men are the same, but if
I got a box like that, I would be stoved.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yes you would, Yes you would. I'm pretty stoked. I'm
pretty stoked. But what I want to do now is
I'm going to go down to Chemists Warehouse and buy
a couple of these for some guys in our lives
that need to know that they're love.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah. I have. Actually, as we've been talking, I'm literally
making a list thinking about people in our lives that
could really do with knowing that somebody's looking out for them.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Yeah, they'll sell out. So when you listen to the pod,
get down to chemist ware House straight away. If you've
listened to the entire thing, thanks so much. I know
it's a little bit I don't know, and you can't
see what we're doing. And I've just rattled off a
big list of all this cool stuff that I've been
surprised by as I've opened up the box. We're going
to wrap it up there. Just a huge plug for
the team at Gotcha. Check out their Mental Fitness Gym
online and have a conversation with someone. Just check in,
(08:28):
ask them if they're doing all right, tell them what
you're noticing. If things aren't quite right, let them know
that you're there. And if you're having a hard time,
seek support. The conversations matter, and new matter, and the
people around you matter. We've got to do so much
better at helping so that we can get this to zero.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Just as we wrap things up, I was thinking about
an experience I had the other day on the bike.
You and I ride our pushies first thing in the morning.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It's pitch black, Yeah, it is a moment.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
And the other day, as we were riding, I watched
this bike coming towards me, but all I could see
was a headlight. I knew that it was a bike.
I couldn't see anyone or anything.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
On the stands side of the roads.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, I could just see his headlight. It wasn't until
we were literally parallel with each other that I realized
not only was it a bike, but there was a
guy sitting on that seat, peddling furiously underneath that light.
And when I think about this experience, so often we
see the light that's a life, right. We see somebody
going about their day to day. We have no idea
(09:24):
what they're experiencing or how hard they're peddling to stay afloat.
And what Gotcha for Life does is just gives us
an opportunity to be mindful of the people around us
and let them know that they're seeing that they're loved
and they're valued.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, well said, They might look like they're just cruising along,
but when you get up close, sometimes you can see
a very different picture. And it's worth asking the questions
and doing the investigations. Got You for Life Men's care
boxes available at chemist Warehouse. Grateful to be an ambassador
for Got You for Life and on their advisory board.
What a privilege to be able to do that work.
I wish that we didn't have to do the work,
but what a privilege to be able to do it.
