Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda gem Nation from.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
The Daily os She is the editor, m gillespie, Is
you are the editor? Aren't you keep making your face
when I say that? Oh, it's just you know you
haven't been demoted.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
No, just imposter syndrome. I don't know. You make it
sound very important.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
And then we're talking about Presidente.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
It's yes, well it's actually our Presidente on the LinkedIn.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
So thank you, Amanda, thank you.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
We're talking today about another celebrity speaking of high status,
important people in the community.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
And Hathaway is being well a little.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Bit canceled over an interview that she did twelve years ago.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
She was clearly having a bad day.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
It was during the sort of press junket promotion for
Le mis Le Misserable back in twenty twelve, of which,
of course, she won an oscar for. And this journalist
from Norway has resurfaced this cringe interview and it's gone viral.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Here's a little bit of it. So I was going
to ask you to do the first question in singing
can sing it to you and you can sing back
the answer. Oh I won't be doing that, but you're
mother welcome to sing here. Steve Flower from TV too,
Norway and you have speeded, okay, I'll try.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
So were there any awkward moments like this on the
sets because I had to sing and talk? Do you
feel that love was more passionate back then or people
would sacrifice more for long than we do today. No,
it's the whole interview is just one word answers. She
goes on to ask her, oh, do you remember your
childhood crush the first time we had a crush, and
she says no, she clearly.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Doesn't want to be there. And I saw one word answers,
but that was twelve years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
It was twelve years ago, and in a kind of
unusual turn of events, her publicist has reached out to
that journalist. So her name's Kirsty Flower from Norway. She
posted that on TikTok and that's eleven million views, and
then she did a follow up video revealing that she
got this long email from Hathaway's publicist, written by Anne
Hathaway explaining what she was dealing with at the time.

(01:51):
She apologized apparently was this really lengthy, thoughtful response. The
journalist said that they had both decided to keep it private,
so whatever the kind of decided now to keep private
whatever she said to explain her behavior. Obviously she was
going through something. She's a famously lovely person out away we've.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Spoken to well.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Either way, it created this huge pylon and Kirsty flaher
the Norwegian journalist who shared the video. If that name
is familiar, it's because she also resurfaced the Blake Lively
video that kicked off this whole saga recently with it
ends with us that you might have heard a grab
from that where Blake Lively is pregnant and the journal
says to her like, oh, congratulations on your bump.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
She says, congratulations on your bump.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
And obviously not pregnant and very rude yes, And that
started a whole cascade against Blake Lively exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
That is this journal, maybe the Norwegians, because they're a
little bit how you say newance really when they talk
to you.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
So but it's this the new thing that you can
get canceled for having an off day. It's interesting, isn't
it a number years ago reading it in of You
that was really slagging off Shirley Bassi of all people,
she had an album out and the guy was really
slagging her off and it's only afterwards I sort of
thought differently about it, because she said, I just want
to put an album out and I do publicity for it.

(03:15):
But they were raking over the coals of her family
had involved suicide, estrangement from the children, blah blah blah.
She said, do I have to rake over my entire
life to do an interview with you about an album?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
But it's when Keith Urban came on our show and
you asked about Nicole and you just said, and you
started talking about.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
How you first they met it out.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
And I could tell instantly he didn't want to go
into it because he wants to talk about his tour.
He wants to talk about what he's doing. He doesn't
want to talk about his misso and that's what happened
because you've only got a finite time to talk in
these segments, so he doesn't want to bang on about
her for the most of the interviews especially.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
I think TikTok's really changed the way that celebrity interviews work.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
It's the long form interview has kind of died.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Unless you're ready to sit down and pick up a
glossy magazine and read a profile on someone, no one
really cares about the full thirty minute context or the
ten minute context of the chat. It's you know what's
going to make the fascinating twenty second SoundBite that's going
to go viral. And you're exactly right that you could
just be having that bad day and then it goes viral.
But the intentions of this journalists have really.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Been called into question.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Whereas after the Blake Lively moment, people were really sympathetic
and saying that was really unfair that she'd had to
copy that behavior from a celebrity, But now that she's
dug up old content a second time and recirculated that
and gone viral, things have sort of shifted where people
have come to Anne Hathaway's defect.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I'm team Hathaway on this one.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah. They've said, you know, she didn't do anything wrong,
she was firm in her.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Answers, and the thing was what she was doing in
that is lame. When you watch it, it's just lame,
don't you said?

Speaker 5 (04:43):
You know, we've interviewed Mark Wohldberg a couple of times.
One was the best interview we've ever done, one was
the worst.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Memory flirted with you on the last one.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
But it's also the same as Ashton Kutcher. You catch
people on a bad day, but you think, how you're
here to publicize a movie when they go on those
talk shows, Yeah, go on co Conan.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
How old's that now? But they'll go on that stuff
Jimmy Kimmel and give give everything.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Oh they give their best exactly.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
So it's frustrating when you don't get something from them.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
And I'm sure for the journalists it feels awful. You
walk away and you think, oh, wow, that was my
hero when I met them, and they.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Were awful to me.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
But you know, in the context of that famous person's day,
they might have three hours of it that's exactly rive
minute block.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
So I forgive them for that. That's absolutely right.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
I think we've just got to be a little bit
more forgiving. Ask ourselves, Okay, what's the broader context of this?
What else have they done? If you know, loads and
loads of interviews come out and we start to think,
all right, this person doesn't know how to treat people
in the media, or they don't know how to do
their job well, or they're not very nice. Then you
get a reputation. Yeah, sure, it's worth calling into question.
But I think you know one TikTok that shows Anne

(05:45):
Hathaway having a little bit yeah bad mood.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
I don't know. I forgive her.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
That's why I stick with what do you think of
Australia so far?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Because that doesn't take up any time in an.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Interview if Urban comes into what do you think of
Australia so far?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
This is your first time here?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Do you like Australia?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
But are you gonna live here?

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I think some Yanks would think you were saying sofa.
They won't understand you.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Jd Vance, he's ad prick up.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
