Speaker 1 (00:10):
My Heart podcasts here more Gold one on one point
seven podcasts.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Playlists and listen live on the Free iHeart app.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Jersey and Amanda jam Nation. What a treat to be
joined by Ali Langdon. She lights up our screens every
night as a host of a Current Affair, a new show,
or it's returning tonight Parental Guidance. And I'm thrilled she's
nominated for the Gold Logi and we must vote.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Hello, Ali, how are you?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We must vote?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Can I ask you?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Because I was up for the Gold Logi a couple
of times and I found it so hard to sell yourself. Yeah,
having the qualities that get you nominated is a different
skill set to try to sell yourself, isn't it?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Because also we represent a team everything we do, even
like Parental Guidance, there's this huge team. I'm a very
minimal part of Parental Guidance, right, I'm just there as
the example of what a bad parent looks like. And
and with a Current Affair or with the Olympics that
we did, you were just such a.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Tiny part of it. So it is very very strange
when you were then singled out.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
But you also then have to kind of lean into
it a bit and say, you know, make it clear
that you're representing everybody and kind of just enjoy it
and sit in the discomfort.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yes, yeah, because I think some people are better at
that than others. But it's a wonderful accolade and congratulations.
Just to be nominated is a great thing. Well done,
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yes, it's fun sitting in discomfort? Is that the underwear
situation for the night.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Probably what's your outfit?
Speaker 4 (01:39):
I haven't even had the initial conversation as to what
I wear or what because obviously we've got parental guidance
coming out. I've just been filming a big domestic violence forum,
which was going to wear this week.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I literally my brain is so full.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Of job stuff that I haven't been able to think
about the fun things like the frock.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah, and maybe I just leave it to others to
decide and I'll just wear whatever.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well, everyone's showing skin these days, maybe you should.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I'm past the point of showing too much ski.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
That's a girl I see someone from It was an
overseas clip, but this woman getting out of a car
and she had a front flap and a back flap
and they weren't joined it's like the sort of thing
you put over.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Are you suggesting this is what? I go something like
this for the log thinking there's an awkward moment. I
think you'll be.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Fine to bring back the element, Come on the element.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
She wore the piano keys at the bring it back
there was there was quite a bit of frontage from
from Memory, tickling the ivories all over there.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
That's why the TV upfronts from started with her.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
So tell us about parental guidance. I've got a friend
whose son is really well. The family is really struggling
around his use of the computer for gaming.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
For is it Land? What's that game? They're all playing Minecraft? No,
not Minecraft Land?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Ryan? You'd know it? Fortnight Fortnite, That's the one I mean.
But it's affecting behavior, It's affecting the family, affecting your sibling.
This terrifying stuff, isn't it?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Which is why we've done the show differently this time.
You know, I feel like we've done We've covered things
like smacking and all the parenting styles. We still have
the different parenting styles, but we've broken it down into
four main subjects, and the one we've got tonight is
screen time, and it is huge the different things we're
getting the kids to do. And we have some families,
like we have a family on the show who are
(03:31):
called pro tech, so the kids actually make money from gaming,
which then I just couldn't quite get my head around.
So you have people sort of watching the kid in
his bedroom playing games and he's making money for me.
There's a bunch of red flags there as to like,
who's who's signing on to watch, you know, a kid
in their bedroom play video games. But there's a lot
(03:53):
of positives to what they do as well, because they
understand it. And you've got a bunch of us in
the room who are really anti tech families, and I
kind of almost fall into that category and just made
us realize, we don't know what our kids are doing.
They're gonna be doing it. We've got to be across it.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
But if this was a young sports star the family,
would he be encouraging them. This is a money making
venture for these kids. They can this could be their jobs,
and this is what they're looking at at doing.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
This is probably and they're and they're making a small fortune,
but more than that, it's about keeping them safe online
and the expel like how much time so and one
of the challenges we do it is just like, okay,
everyone in the house, give us all of your devices
and we're going to add up how much time. What
is interesting is how often the parents are going get off,
get off, get off your screen, and then how much
(04:40):
time they're spending and what they're spending their time on.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Is pretty telling.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
But there's some really big conversations around things like consent,
which was a real eye opener in the room of
where some of the parents sit and just showed me
we have a real problem with it. And some of
the other stuff we're looking at too, is like chatbot
friends because we were so behind the eight ball when
with social media.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
This is the next thing coming.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
And as parents is what we need to be across.
And when you see how those challenges play.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Out, which is tonight.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
Okay will terrify you, but LOSTO, then go okay, right,
this is what we need to do.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
That deep deep fake AI stuff is very scary, isn't
it though.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
That's the and all of that, all of that plays
all of the plays into it. But with the chatbot friend,
because these are free sights online so anyone can do it.
We set the kids up, They create their profile and
their friend. If you think you're that kid at school
who doesn't quite fit in, you're bullied, or you're just
socially awkward, you come home and you set up your
chatbot friend. How quickly that line blurs that that is
(05:46):
not real and when that becomes your your closest friend.
And we saw the really horrible example in America last
year where the chatbot friend, you know, but the boy
took his life.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, it was the chap by friend say to take
his life.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Take your life and then we could be together forever.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
And when you watch these kids online for just might
be twenty twenty five minutes. You grooming is a word
I would use because it is utterly unregulated in this country.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
But this is AI grooming, So it's not a human
it's an algorithm grooming you.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
And we had to make it clear in the room.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
We had some families who had really strong you know,
some like with religious beliefs and all the conversation that
the AI friend brought up with their child. We're to
make it really clear we have nothing to do with this.
This isn't some producer behind the scenes kind of dictating
where this goes. This is just from keywords that they'd
put in and I think, you know, part of it
(06:40):
was I think she'd said, oh, boys are gross.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
From that where that took the conversation with a twelve.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Year old girl was was just eye opening.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
That's scary, scary stuff. Well, Ali will be watching tonight
watch you on ACA. It's the Ali Langdon network, straddling
all the shows.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
And if you need any material, what about when you
get up on stage. Remember when I was on the
Today Show with you come on the elephant joke?
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Come on, this is great. You get an elephant into
a safe way. There, you take the F out of
safe and the F out of way, say.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
And the way.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Allison Langdon language like that.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Jonesy jonesy Jones, he has his Joke's got any better?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
No, that was a peak moments.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Since then, seven thirty tonight on Channel nine and nine.
Now you'll see parental guidance and you'll see a C
A and seven good good luck with the logo.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Yeah, absolutely, thank you. It's gonna be it's gonna be
so much fun.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
It'd be so much sounding hysterically.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Thank
