Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda gam Nation.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Well, our next guest is, without doubt one of the
greatest racing car drivers we've seen. Craiglounds is celebrating thirty
years of tearing up the track of Bathist, returning this
weekend to the Repco Bathist one thousand the iconic Mount Panorama.
It'll be an adrenaline fueled extravaganza. And to tell us
all about it, he's the man himself, Craiglounds Flow here.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Is Good morning, guys, Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
It's always great to talk to you, mate, because I
just realized I've been talking to you probably every year
for Bathist far as long as you've been racing around Bathist,
and now you're going for your eighth How good is this?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Well, yeah, sort of A couple of them have eluded me. Unfortunately,
we're sort of we're very close in a couple of years.
But when I talk about it, it's been interesting, obviously
the journey. When I first wanted back in ninety six,
it took me ten years to win my second, So
it just shows how tough this race track is. I'm
not in the racetrack, but just the event itself and
at the moment I was sitting in pitt Lane some
(00:58):
sort of China been through the clouds. All the teams
are just getting garages ready and prepped and we hit
the track tomorrow, which is a great opportunity just to
make sure that everything's all ready to go.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
And the car's good. You're loving the Chevy I am.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
I think these new generation cars are very different. They
actually remind me when we did the testing with them.
They remind me of the older days, like the back
to the late nineties, back to the VT, that style
of car where the cars move around more. They're very
quick and straight line, so in comparison to our.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Previous car down Conrad, these current cars are about ten
kilometers faster and the straight line so we're almost close
to three hundred clometers an hour again coming down into
Conrad straight So it's an exciting little cars for me.
It's a great opportunity to still be involved in the
sport and to help that next generation coming in.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Well, you bound out a full time competition at the
end of twenty eighteen and this is the only race
you do. Does that mean that you're relaxed and ready
to go, or does it mean that the other drivers
are more match fit because they've been racing throughout the season.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
I think it's a bit of both. I think that
I'm definitely more relaxed. I'm sort of enjoying the journey
that we're on at the moment with this wild card
and to help that next generation get involved into this
level of sport. Yeah, the main drivers are all match fitted.
It's like, you know a football game that you know
you can practice as much as you like, but the
intensity of having that game and all the adrenaline and
(02:22):
the competition really keeps you sharp. And for me, you know,
I'm still fans enough. I think I am, so it's
you know, we had a great result at Sundown and
fifth and Koper Marray did a great job with bringing
the car home, and you know our plan this weekend
is to do the same. Our highest finish year was
eight couple of years ago, so we wanted better that.
(02:43):
Last year we had a bit of a mechanical failure,
but you know, this year, I'm really excited. I've got
a good feeling about this year.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
If you've let the other races go, what is it
about Bathtist that still fascinates you? Why Bathist?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
I think the enormity. I think when you drive through town,
the town grows by probably fourfold. The campers are still
coming in and setting up. It's just a really an
amazing buzz. And I remember, and I said this in
an interview a couple of days ago, that I remember
driving into this complex in ninety four with Peterborough and
I was at awe because it was a race track
(03:15):
that I always wanted to be part of. He was
obviously a very much experience this and he just when
we drove in, he just said, look, look at the place,
look at the mountain, look at the vibe, look at
the campers. And you know, I think I've really embraced
that now it really get the opportunity to do that
side of it. We've got track to townpening wide race
cars down into town, and again just the atmosphere in
(03:37):
town and doing the signing sessions. All that is just
what makes this race such a great event.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
It's the vibe. I always wonder. I like to think
that you listen to Jones and Demanda when you're going
around the track, but that might be a little bit distracting,
but you'd have do you ever listen to music when
you're going around the track.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
That's the one thing, the first thing they take out
of the race cars with the radiosa.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Because I'd imagine, I'd imagine you'd have something like this,
like a bit of Maiden or now hang on, Landsay,
what about this? Or kicks down my heart? You're going
across Philip mcphillamy, you know that bit where Dick Johnson
lost at that time. You just come across there and
you've got you see what I'm saying here.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Absolutely, I would do with the middle section of the
A C DC. And I think that whenever we drive in,
when Lara and I drive into the circuit, every we
do a bit of a tradition we put back in
black as we drive into town and and it just
really pumps up the vibe of what this weekend.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well, this is my song suggestion. Craig use like that.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Considering considering that we're sponsored by super Cheap. He could
have got the big red cart and the Whiggels.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Well, Landsay, I'm all for you getting eight. This is
for you because the car it's triple eight. You're going
for eight. I just feel it's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Well, it's a good vibe. I think Cooper Murray, young kid.
He's getting involved. He's got a main game drive next year,
which is the shows that teams are looking at, those
that next generation. He did a super job at Sandown
and he's really pumped on pumped. Yeah. As I said,
I've got a good feeling about this weekend. We just
got to do the fundamentals right, get the Sunday and
see where we end up.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
You can't wait to shiny side up, my man. You
can catch all the action of the twenty twenty four
ripco bath A's one thousand live on Fox Sports and seven.
Craiglands good luck, Thank you guys.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Nice to talk to Craig
