Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda jam Nation.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Lynn wrote to us about her brother Grant, who's experienced
a really tough couple of years.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Grant's a widower. He's got three adult children.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
He and his wife, Debbie, were married for twenty five years,
and in two thousand and one, Debbie was diagnosed with MS.
She became paralyzed, she was bedridden, and in twenty twenty
her condition deteriorated significantly. Grant lost his job of twenty
years at a printing company. It was closed down due
to a lack of customers, so he stayed home and
gave Debbie twenty four our care. In September last year,

(00:32):
this is tough, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and
not long after that, Debbie passed away. So Grant is
on fortnightly chemotherapy to maintain his life for as long
as possible. Lynn knows that her brother would never ask
for anything. Here's the guy that looks after everyone else
and puts himself last. So she's trying to put together

(00:54):
well a bucket list for him of things that he
can do with his family. So we have Lynn on
the line. Hello, Lynn, Hi, Amanda, Hi drooned he Oh, Grant.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Sounds quite extraordinary and what a tough time.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, he is an amazing man and he's really struggling
at the moment.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Oh man, but I I feel powerless. What can we
actually do?

Speaker 3 (01:14):
What would he like? What's the sort of thing that
would cheer him up?

Speaker 1 (01:21):
You know, honestly, my brother is the kind of man
that would never ask for anything, and he has worked
so hard, and it's meant that as a family, they
haven't really done a lot of things that you and
I would do normally, go out for dinner, go to
the movies, a concert, you know, a weekend away. They
haven't done any of those things for such a long time.

(01:45):
Twenty years Debbie was sick and they just never went
out as a family. Someone always had to be home
to help her and look after her. They're the sort
of things that I think he's missed out.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah. I guess when you have someone like that, you
sort of work in a tag team, so you don't
share those experiences. Would that bring some joy to his
life if we could organize that kind of stuff for him, Oh.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
You have no idea. Absolutely, he is just struggling so
much at the moment.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
And just to get an idea of what we can
put together for him. What does he like? What's he into?

Speaker 1 (02:20):
You know, my brother is he's a bit of an
amateur photographer, so he loves to get out into the
into nature and take photos of landscapes and animals and
nature and all those sorts of things. And as I said,
you know, they just haven't been out to restaurants or
movies or concerts or anything like. But you know those

(02:41):
sorts of things that you know, the average family probably
takes for grants.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
And he's up to go to a concert or something
like it.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
Could you know, if we got like, I don't know,
there's a lot of people performing at the moment. I'm
just off the top of my head, anyone would you
like to go and see that's coming to town?

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Oh look, I don't think he'd be too concerned as
to who. It was, just the fact that he could,
he could have a night out and have some kind
of experience like that. You know, he would just jump
at anything, you know, And when he's when he's not
recovering from chemo, he's out trying to do what he

(03:17):
can at the moment.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, look that's given us some things to work with.
I think the brief here is for him to hang
out with his family and to bring some joy into
his life. I think we can help you with this, Linn.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Leave it with us.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Lin We'll put it. We won't put it on the
back burner. It's on the front, but it's on the
big front.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
It's actually on our favorite burner on the stove, and
everyone has a favorite.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Amazing.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Well, you know, we haven't done anything.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yet, but I'm so glad Lyn that you got in
touch with us because I reckon we can help Grant here.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
And thank you very very much.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Oh, thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
We'll get back to you. Coast to coast.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
It's time for another round of sibling rivalry, where's siblings
take on each other?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
We have Granted Linn. Hello Lynn?

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Hi, don't see Hi? Amanda? Hi?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Grant?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Hey, Hey, how Amanda? How we go on?

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Very well? Let's talk about your your history, Grant. Do
you get on with Lynn?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
A bit of rivalry there from time to time?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
From time to time? Is there any stories you can
tell us about Lynn?

Speaker 5 (04:16):
You know, when you were younger, how she irritated you
or did she break anything of yours?

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Oh? Could I go on for hours?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I've done that it come around your house and break
your stuff. Grant, all right?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I know?

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (04:30):
And Lynn, you can't say anything about Grant, can you?
Is there anything that he does that irritates you?

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Oh? I could give him a run for his money
on the stories. But you know, as he's got older,
he's not too bad.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Well you know what. In fact, Grant, there isn't much right.
I feel like I'm going to cry. There's not a
lot of rivalry going on here. Because Lynn got in
touch with us and told you how told us how
hard things have been for you in the last few years,
well the last twenty years, Grant, Lynn loves you very much,
and she got in touch with us to see if
we could bring some joy into your life. She said,
there's a lot of family experiences you haven't been able

(05:04):
to have because you've been looking after your wife and
now with your own illness. So she said you liked music,
she said you liked outdoors yep.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
And she also said you want to be on the
radio and sort of asked for this stuff. So we've
set up the guise of a sibling rivalry competition just
so we could get you on.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
So what we've done lured you in grand a.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Manner life, put our heads together and come up with
one big ugly head and we've.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Put together just on my sister's shoulders.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Just some stuff, just some stuff for you.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
So this is what we'd like to do for you, Grant.
We know you like live music.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
We're sending you to rod Stewart with two double passes
so the whole family can go. We know that you'd
really like to have a meal out, and having a

very easy for you to do, so we're sending you

This is time with your family where you can all
spend time together and hopefully bring some joy into your life.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Grand thank you for those. But there's other people that
need things more than me. You know, I'm all right,
don't I don't need to do things. I've got my family,
and you know there's other more deserving people than me.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Lynn said, you'd say that, and that's why we got
you under the guys at the siblings.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
All these things planned to bag my sister.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
She's so lovely, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
She told me this stuff coming, and you know we're
going to do this game. And now I can't lie.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
And now she's telling you how she's got you a beauty.
I think she's won this round, don't you, grand.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
No, no, she hasn't. Well, thank you very much. It's
very generous of you and W S f M and
all your sponsors and supporters that have given me these things.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
But granted was actually it was nothing for us to do.
It's quite easy, it was.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
And yeah, and Lynd just sings your praises. You're an
incredible man, and we just want you to spend some
time with your family and love yourself.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
She didn't say the word incredible. Pain in the ba.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Did so amazing.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
There was a superletive thing.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
That's right.

Well, enjoy your time. You too so much for a
sibling rivalry. You sound like you have a great time
when you're together. Lynn, Thank you for letting us know
the story of Grant. You're right, he would never have
asked for these things on his own. So Grant you
