Speaker 1 (00:00):
Going right around the country with the biggest Ozzy hits
at night for os May it's medi gowd and representing
this country right around the world. Morgan Evans, he's got
some brand new stuff out Country Out of My Girl.
We can't stop spinning it here on oz May. But
there's a new one featuring Rivers from Wesa. We got
to find out how this came about, so we're going
to catch up with Morgan Evans right now. Morgan, thanks
for stuff online Australia.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
It's good to see you. It's good to hear your accent.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Man.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, this is this is super exciting for me, this collaboration.
I mean growing up in the early two thousands playing guitar,
like Weezer was just a band you learnt songs by,
you know. It was kind of at the end of
last year, right after Country Out of My Girl come out,
and I got a call from my manager who also
manages Weezer, and he asked me if I was a
fan of Weezer, and I was like, just said the
same thing I said to you. I was like, of course,
(00:47):
and he's like, Rivers really wants to be on Country
Out of My Girl, Like that sounds like a weird
collaboration song, Like, what is there not a different song
that we could do. He's like, he's already written a verse.
If you don't like it, we don't have to do
anything with it, but check it out as you hear it,
Like it was exactly that, and to me, like those
lyrics are so quirky. The fact that he got like
(01:08):
vampire in there, and he got like fish net I
was in there like in a country song. I just
thought that was too good not to share with the world.
And I'm still going to have it out.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
And you shd your own cover of Island the Sun
as well, which kind of got his attention a little
bit first off too.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Maybe, so yeah, yeah, that could have been where I started. Actually,
that's funny. Where we got to I think is just
hilarious and amazing and I'm stoke. People are digging it.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
We are digging it, and I was made and digging.
How many shows you've got going right around the world
before you actually get back into Australia as well? How's
all that going for you? Ah?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Dude? I mean at this point we're just like crossing
our fingers it. Everything should be okay, but we're definitely
making up for lost time. Obviously CMC roxx has been
pushed back since twenty twenty, but then we're doing two
months of touring here in the States that were supposed
to happen in January, and so now it's this kind
of three month window where we're going to twelve thirteen
different countries, and some of us with Brad Paisley, which
(02:03):
would be unreal. We're playing arenas in Norway and Sweden
and Denmark, which is crazy to think about doing arenas
of country music in those places, but I'm stoked for that.
The America too is gonna be great. And then by
the time we get to Australia, we are just going
to be dialed in and ready to come down and
play the biggest show of our lives.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
And we saw huge success with country music in Australia
just recently with the Golden Guitars, some of my fellow
Tazzie boys repping it with the Wolf Brothers. We're seeing
people like Amy Shephard moving from you know, more of
a kind of pop feel into finding our owning country
as well. Like country is just really becoming a part
of the staple of the top forty at the moment,
even in the contemporaries. I love that.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
That's great to hear. I feel like I've felt that
every time I've come back to Australia. But obviously you
work in that business, so to hear you say that
feels really good.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
I mean, I think it's just real music, real stories.
There's been something about the last couple of years of
people being cooped up on their own Yep, there's been
less connection, and so maybe people looking for that kind
of connection through music has led to what you're talking about.
But either way, man, I'm stoked to be a part
of it and to come down and do it in September. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Well, people are looking up to you and seeing you
as a role model on someone who is killing it,
you know, like Australian boy humble down to earth to
see that. But then also your little nas X's jumping
in on the Ray Cyrus stuff and Kane Brown and Blanco.
You know, it's just really cruising along.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Even the artist you mentioned there. It feels like the
boundaries of every genre I'm kind of widening. You can
almost do whatever you want. If it's great, if it
connects with someone, it'll find its place and that's an
exciting sort of space to do making music count too,
and like you.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Said, the authenticity of it as well. We're going to
be seeing you, like you said, in September as well.
Obviously heaps of shows in between that we're talking about.
What else is coming up from Morgan Evans throughout twenty
twenty two. We're having all music with the Country Out
of My Girl and stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
For Yeah Man. We actually we just had a big
conversation today about like picking the next handful of songs
to record. So I can't tell you exactly when they're
going to come out because we haven't actually got them
recorded yet, but I can tell you that I'm super
excited about them. It's my favorite stuff that I've done
so far. We're not going to sort of mess around.
I want to get them out as soon as possible,
(04:19):
So just to everyone listening out there, that's that's what
we're aiming for and hopefully be a little bit patient,
but we'll get there.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
So well, we're not going to be patient now because
we're going to play Country Out of My Girl featuring
Rivers Ryani on Oz Made. It's an absolute river mate.
We're spinning it so much and we love what you're doing,
representing Australia, representing country music, setting a good example for everyone. Mate.
We love it.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Thank you mate. I appreciate the Colm words. Thank you. Hey.
This is Morgan Evans and this is my brand new
single Country out of My Girl featuring Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.
Right here on OZ made
