Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've been having a conversation. We had Teagan, Cory's lovely
wife on air who had a great story about how
they met. Tigan also happens to be the daughter of
Queensland Rugby league legend Geene Miles, and she told us
about the time she had to tell him about her
new relationship. We were working together at the time and
I saw him in his office. I ram passed, put

(00:20):
my lunch in the fridge, ram passed back to my
office and on my way back, he's like, you're in
here now.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
And he's like, is he a good guy?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
I was like, yeah, it is good and he's like, okay,
he's got one chance.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
One chance.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
And Geene Miles joins us on the phone now and
welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Make great to have you on my pleasure. Mate.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Hopefully we're going to be hearing a lot of you
over becoming years. Mate, I reckon we could we could
be drawing from this well many times.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Cory is a little nervous that we have so tell
us your side.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Of the story.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well, if he wants to keep that a good job
he has now he needs to tell the truth all right,
lesson number one, so that my recollection of it was
that I was kept in the dark about the early
times in the relationship. And then we were having a
family barbecue Fortigan's birthday, and that's when Corey put us

(01:21):
knocked on the door of my house and they sort
of trapped me into going out and opening the door,
which I wasn't expecting anybody that he was standing there
all right, what are you doing here? And that was
the first bad spoken.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So he had a nineteen year old footballer and where
was he at in his career at that stage?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, very important states that career because back in those
days I just happened to be the chairman of selectors
of the Queensland State of Oregon team. And here he
is having a barbecue at my place, sucking up to
the gym. And obviously, anyway, cut a long story short,
we enjoyed a barbecue and then I got up pretty

(02:15):
abruptly and just said, oh, I've got to go now,
we've got to go and select the team because it
was a Sunday afternoon and on the round of the
foot he had finished, so we've got the medical reports
on everybody. And and as I left, I just said
to Correy, I said well, listen, if you know, if
your name's right out tomorrow tomorrow morning, you can give

(02:37):
me the wraps for that. If it's not, it's those
other two blokes at the time, Darren Lockyer and Kevin
Wallas was the coach of the State of Origin team
in those days, and it all turned out very well
because obviously that's Corey. Corey was named in that particular
team and made his debut for Queensland amazing. So was
it a unanimous decision? I can't. He was. He was

(03:08):
flying pretty well back in those days, so he's obvious selection.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
So that is another reason for I mean not just
the fact that you're six foot four, one hundred as
a father in law, but the fact that you really
had his career in your hands.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah yeah, yeah, well that's uh yeah, that's a very
really nice part of it. When you I might like
him a little bit more after that. You know, he's
now he's now a representative stuff. So he had to
deal with that, but he had to produce it on
the field and he did and went along when and

(03:41):
played end up playing nine games. So yeah, he's done well.
But I've never given him a wrap for.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
All jokes aside, though, Jean, you guys get on really well,
don't you.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Of course we do. We've got a lot of things
that you know, we're both passionate about. He loves, he
loves what he's doing at the moment. I know that,
and uh, you know, apart from that, we got two
great grandchildren there that we loved early. And about your
golf game, how's your golf game going. I love my
gy know you know exactly how my golf. It's been

(04:14):
shelved for the past three years. So you had enough,
haven't you.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Well, thank you, thank you, thanks for clearing that up
and now that will chat to you more next year.
Thanks mate,
