Speaker 1 (00:10):
My heart podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hear more Kiss podcast playlist and listen live on the
free iHeart app. I have done something last weekend that
has made me think that I need to do it more.
Something from my childhood, something I think a lot of
adults are no longer doing.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Right.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Hear me out.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I had an adult sleepover, but not a sexy kind
because my husband lives in Italy, so I live alone
in my house with my dog.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Like a slumber party.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, and I didn't have to go away for it. It
was like half an hour away. And I was like,
do you know what? I'm going to come over and
sleep over? Fully packed a bag?

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Can I just stop you for one second?

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
So you invited yourself over? Is that was it?

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Well?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
She said do you want to come over for dinner?
And in my head I was like, oh, it's half
an hour, which is just so far, it's an hour total.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
What's your normal bedtime?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Very late? Actually this is midnight every night?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Would you like a ten o'clock kind of gown midnight.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
To one am?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
WHOA?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I could not say last time I went to bed
before midnight?

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
My brain turns on at about APM. I do nothing
all day and then my brain turns on at night.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
It's that interesting. I'm the same, are you so what?
So you thought?

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well, I was just like, do you know what, it's
too much driving. I said, Hey, here's a thought. What
if I come over for dinner and then don't leave.
What if I stayed the night?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
And so I packed my bag, My dog came with me.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I packed my dog's sleepover bag because she has a
dog too, So it was almost like we were just
gonna I don't know what it was, but I cannot
tell you how good it was. It was like being
on holiday, but in my own it was like a
staycasion in my own city. I could go home in
the morning, but I had dinner there.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Where did you sleep do?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
They had a very comfy bed and she's just room. Yeah,
proper bed.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It was like a hotel quality bed. And then I
had a coffee brought to me in the morning.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
What about?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Like, this is what I'm not quite sure how this works?
And tell me the mechanics here, because I haven't had
a sleepover for a very very, very long time. How
do you signal that you're ready to go to bed?
How does that work?

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Well?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I think the adult sleepover rule, we need to call
it the wholesome adult sleeper because it's not a sexy time.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
The wholesome platonic adult friendship.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Sleepover only really happens with somebody you're really close to,
because you're not just going over to Sally from.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
The coffee shops house, because that would be weird.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
It would be very weird, bit of a stalker.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
So I think, with me, this is like one of
my closest friends. There's no rules.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
It's just like, Hey, I'm going to go to bed,
do you want to come hang out?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Do you want to stay here? Do you want to
watch TV?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And like I went to bed when I was ready,
and then she came into bed with me and we
just talk.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
I could never the anxiety right now of.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
What of being feeling rude, like you can't just.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
The not knowing like what the other person wants of
Like imagine if you're like, well I'm off to bed
and they follow you to bed for a chat, You're
like the chat in the living room. Why I have
a chain of scenery you?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I mean, I guess it only works.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I don't think you can have these adult sleepover dressful.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
But you've also got three kids now, Like, imagine if
you said.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
To Laura, You're like, honey, you just got to say
at my friend's house.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
But that's like divorce level.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I also don't think i'd do it if my husband
lived here, Like that's weird, right, but I think under
my circumstances, the adult sleepover lives on.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Well, do you know what I've started doing? And I
have found it very very relaxing. I don't know if
other parents do this, but I love to color in
It's very soothing to set your mind off things. Yeah,
that's really surprised and say like Miley will be like,
who's been coloring into my book? And I'm like, oh, Lola,
you coloring. I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
It's a whole other thing in that. That is it.
Let's get out here. I've got Sleepover to get you.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
