Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now, Maddie, can you see yourself behind the front bar
pulling schooners and then on a Sunday afternoon, so chicken
snittis as a part of the menu through the week,
but a traditional classic style Sunday roast at a pub.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I feel like everyone could see themselves doing that. I've
worked a lot of different jobs and one thing I've
yet to do is pull a schooner ever before, So
I feel like this could happen.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Do you think it's actually there's a bit of an
art to it, and I've done it, so I have
done it. I haven't worked behind a bar, but I've
done all sorts of promotions and stuff where I have
stood behind the bar pull and schooners and that, and
so there's a's a technique.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
To it, yes, I feel like there is. But if
it's something that someone has wanted to ever do, maybe
become an innkeeper by pub by a pub and we've
got one for you. It's just up the road in
Golban and to talk about it with us this morning
is Carol James, Director, licensed real Estate, stock and station
agent at Carol James Real Estate in Golbin. What it's
titled Good Morning Carol.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Good morning everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Very exciting all right, So yeah, we're excited to be
talking about it.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
This is the Fireside In in Golblin. It's been on
the market for a little while. Can you tell us
about first of all the history of the pub.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah, the fire sight In is in twenty three Market Street, Gobin.
It's in a great position and it was built in
nineteen thirty four. A well known businessman then John Norman,
went overseas and had a trip through England and he
came back with this concept of having something with a
lot of character and ambience, so he built his tutor building.
(01:30):
Then it's in a great location, as I said, right
opposite Filmore Park, near the courthouse, close to our new
performing arts area. Has he built it as a tea room,
not as a pub. Okay, tea room originally. But it's
got the lovely timber, thick timber being ceilings and a
huge open fire and hence the name the fireside In.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Okay, okay, tell us about the layout. What do you
see when you walk in? What comes with the sale
all of those things?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yes, well, it's very very open it walk in and
walk out, south wall, chairs, tables, kitchen, everything's there's a bar,
of course, So it was a tea room until after
the war, and then it became an a la catte
restaurant and it was very famous for its roast pork
(02:21):
and its lovely soups and sticky date pudding, and it
always served local wines and beers. So it is quite
a famous place in Gorbin. Everybody celebrated there, all the weddings,
of the christenings, everything was held in this beautiful place.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
There's sort of like a romantic notion about owning a
pub like this, but in reality it's twenty our days
and there's a lot to do. So what are some
of the commercial aspects that people need to know about?
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Well, it could be lots of other things. I mean,
we've had lots of people look at it for different reasons.
It's got two flats above, it's got a flat on either,
so someone could live in and run something, or you
could rent those two places out. We've had people look
at it as an Irish pub, as a B and B,
(03:11):
a whiskey bar, there's another thing you could do there.
So there's lots of opportunity here for anyone that wants
to do something in Golbon and as I say, it
is in the best location and it's quite historic where
it is. It's a lovely, lovely building. People used to
come from Camber and Sydney just to sit by the
open fire.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I love that the pub is just down the road
from the courthouse as well as across the road across
there you go across the road.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
But another great thing it could be as a wedding
venue because you've got the courthouse for the wedding, the
park for photos and your reception here.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Oh there we go on. I feel like you're trying
to buy it at this point.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
You could do that as well. Absolutely fabulous. It is
a really wonderful building with so much potential. So we're
really just looking for someone who was really interested to
make it, to open it again, because it hasn't been
opened since COVID sadly very much missed in our community.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Okay, for those that are interested, when and how are
you selling?
Speaker 3 (04:17):
We're selling private treaty. They can give us a call anytime,
so they can call us on four nine for eight
three seven double six. We're happy to show them through
and give as much information as we can. But it
is a great opportunity for somebody who wants to live
in and run a business.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Definitely, thank you so much for joining us. Carol the
director and licensed real estate agent of stocks and station
at Carol James Real Estate in Goulburn,
