(00:47):
Tirerac dot com the way tire buying should be. Well,
the UCLA Bruins, I've just hit the wall and they
have screamed into it at one hundred miles an hour. Yeah,
that take did in age. Well, they have not made
a field goal in the last ten minutes of this game.
Gonzaga has outscored them at this point thirty nine seventeen
(01:11):
in the second half, and they have a nine point
lead with just under two minutes left. To go. You
could see UCLA as exhausted. Their jumpers are short, they
have no jump to get to the rim. This is
where the injuries have caught up to UCLA. Look when
you're missing the players that we talked about, it's gonna
come back to you at some point. It was an
(01:32):
unbelievable first half by UCLA, but no one to come
in and play a few minutes to give guys rest.
You can see that Campbell's exhausted hawk has is exhausted.
They can't guard Drew Timmy, who's got thirty six points
and fifteen rebounds, one of the all time great NCAA
tournament games ever, and Gonzaga has just put a strangledold
on this game over the course of the the last twelve
(01:52):
minutes of play. Oh I talk about depth, especially at
the bigs and how it would show up, and Timmy's
obviously gotten his Strather and Smith combining for twenty four points.
Tail of the tape. You run it down, you've got
Gonzaga with fourteen turnovers, UCLA just five free throws. And
(02:15):
this is where the lack of bigs and to some degree,
how they've called this game. They've let him play a
bit We've seen some complaining about falls that well, guys
that were expecting to get, particularly the veterans. When you
look at UCLA, you know Hawks has that move where
he comes in the offhand is going into a guy's chest.
(02:36):
There's a lot of contact, and if you go back
and look at the regular season, a bunch of those
are falls. Here. They're letting it play because technically, I
think I would argue with a lot of those are
offensive falls, but that's me. With the elbow being extended here,
it's no call play on. But you got a guy
and Drew Timmy who's taken twenty four shots. He's sixteen
to twenty four. He's been to the fall line four
(02:59):
times times, Jason four times. He's a sixty three percent
free throw shooter. He's almost just good from the field
year to year as he is from the fall line.
And he's been to the fall line four times. It
feels like I'm watching a Knicks game. This is as well,
especially when it's like Smith they didn't play very well. Uh,
(03:20):
this is yeah, this is a bit of a You
talk about reversal of fortune for everything you sill A
did right in the first half. Look, you can't buy
a basket. You get tired, you don't have the bench,
you're getting late in the tournament. Now you've played a
game on Friday, a game on Sunday, now a game
you know, then now a game on Friday again. Uh,
it gets to that point you get mentally tired. And
USAI looks like a team that just they can't buy anything. Right,
(03:43):
But the first half it was, man, it was energetic.
They're they're deaf and around, they're flying around and and
look like they were going to potentially run away with
this thing. But as we know, halftime adjustment Smith, well,
I wouldn't be surprised if the big halftime adjustment is
more few telling in Zaga they're going to be exhausted.
Don't worry, we got it. They're going to be exhausted
(04:06):
because you know, look the Zags have a couple of
guys come off the bench. You can give them a
big minutes. Look, Smith, to Night's got fourteen off the bench.
But you silly doesn't have anybody, right, you have guys
that can bear because you know, look, because you're down,
you're down two of your rotation players. I understand that,
and that's gonna happen, and I just just just play
it out. They're gonna get tired suddenly, their jumpers are
going to be short, they're not gonna be able to
(04:27):
burst by us, and just just play it out. Just wait,
stay with it, stay with it. And that's kind of
what's happened. Like how many jumpers are hit in the
front of the rim and they're they're not even close.
I mean, UCLA, this long time out right now for
the review of this out of bounce play is going
to help them immensely, but it's too late because you're
down nine with a minute twenty five left to go. Yeah,
veteran leadership and those guys have you've carried them as
(04:51):
much as they can right. Hockeys has twenty one, Campbell
with fourteen, and Bailey has sixteen. Fantastic run little life
left as you get a bucket and a fall here
with a minute fourteen one of those drive into the
lane and bowl your way way through. I mean that's
what hawks game has been. Another guy, he only has
(05:13):
two three throws tonight before this, again owing to how
the officiating has let the contact go at Normally, he'd
be setting up a picnic lunch, so right now, you
silly going to the free throw line could make it
a seventy two sixty six game, a two possession game,
still minute and a half left to go. We'll keep
(05:34):
you updated on this throughout the rest of the game.
But another Elite eight ticket was punched a few moments ago.
Talk about a second half comeback. Florida Atlanta comes from
behind to beat Tennessee sixty two fifty five. The Owls
are headed to the Elite eight. And this is where
(05:55):
everybody doing brackets rejoices because either Florida Atlanta or Kansas
State is going to the Final four. And I know
k State was a three seed, but how many people
outside of Manhattan, Kansas really took Kansas State to get
to the final four. Nobody. This is a great This
is great for everybody who does a bractets. Now it's okay,
(06:15):
that whole bracket now is shaded, right like when you
have like, hey, the bracket looks good, but the one
that that's dark and shaded means it's it's it's it's
no longer in play now that that's out now, So
everybody doing a bracket should be very excited because k
State and Florida Atlantic going into the Final four, and
everybodys still gonna root for Florida Atlantic because at least,
you know, some people allegedly would have Kansas State, but
(06:36):
this is Florida Atlantic and k State going to the
One of those teams is going to the plow. We
start doing all our let's get through the brackets. How
many people pick Kansas State Final four in their in
their brackets? It's gonna be a small percentage based on
as you laid it out. Let's see, it's uh two
point four or now point three percent for Florida Atlantic,
(07:03):
two point one percent for Kansas State. So there you go. Yeah,
but here's the best part. Here's the best part. Anybody
who picked either of those teams to go to the
final four, you know, their bracket looks like like a
bunch of lunatics. That's what doesn't matter. They probably didn't
go with the obvious anywhere else either, you know, no,
no one, It's not like the who's your bracket? Well,
I have Alabama, and I have Houston, and I have Yukon,
(07:24):
and I have Florida Atlantic or I have Kansas State.
No nobody's got that. It's I got Kansas State, and
then I had Saint Mary's and then I had Pitt
and I had Ferman. Like you know, back to someone's
final four is gonna be when you do that, and
that's not it's not. No one's got that kind of bracket.
It's a freebee. It's great news everybody doing brackets right now,
great news for everybody. It's brilliant. I mean, it's bad
(07:46):
news for me because UCLA looks like they're gonna go home,
they're gonna lose, and I had them winning the championship.
So now I completely am done losing because I had
Arizona in the final four, which I'm never gonna do
that again. They're on my never again list, and then
Ucla year I had them winning at all um so
this is your fault in a minute? Was your fault
in a minute and four seconds? Ucla maybe on my
(08:08):
never again list as well. I might put them on there.
They could. I could make another addition to my never
again This is your fault? Yeah, how is it my fault?
I told you no, no, no, I'm gonna tell you.
I'm gonna tell you what you told me him. It's
I took them, but I'm gonna tell people what you
told What happens when you take people. No, no, no,
no, no no, listen, hey, listen, I'm gonna tell people what
(08:30):
you told me off the air about an hour ago.
I said, yeah, halftime, but we'll see. And you said
UCLA is not losing this game. You said that. Alex
Tischert knows he heard you say that. This is the horse.
I said, now, I gotta keep the positive vice something
here with your negativity? Negativity? I mean, what's my negative?
You're upset that I picked them to win? How? Yeah,
(08:50):
now the streets run red with the blood of your
brackets on the night that that negative. He will not stand,
will not stand. I picked you CLA to win. House problem.
He doesn't want you on his bandwagon. Every time you
pick the Dodgers, he gets pissed. And in a week
or two, who's Jason gonna take the Dodgers but you
(09:14):
can't take the Mats? No Dias, you know, Uh no,
that's fine, we'll fig we'll figure it out. Well, we'll
make a trade. Well, we'll trade for Kershaw in middle
of the season and turn him into a closer. So
are him and Hoskins gonna get a podcast? Oh hey,
too soon too, So it's broke po man, no more,
no more spring training. That's the argument you have to make.
Now everybody's gotta cry and stomp around, or you just
(09:36):
blame the WBC for it. Let's get rid of the
World Baseball Classic. Let's get rid of spring train. Let's
just have people show up in Florida, sign autographs, do
media day, and then fly to your home city for
opening It. It's like college college football. There's no ramp up.
Let's go. We're just gonna start the season. Let's go.
Came You should show up ready to go, right, you should?
(09:56):
You should show up ready, all right, we gotta be
ready to go. And I say that we don't show
up and we we work ourselves into shape. Don't need
to sit here and throw for a watch. We're ready
to go. You should on your own time. You don't
have to be a milkman in the off season anymore.
We don't have to be a beer distributory. Get your
ass in the gym. How many how many pitches could
you go on opening day? I'm thinking you can go
(10:17):
one hundred, maybe one twenty. But I haven't thrown all.
It doesn't matter. Come on, then you're a professional. You
can go. You can go the entire you can go
the distance. On opening day, I might throw you for
one hundred and forty five pitches and see if that works.
It's not a bad way to go. Let's go back
to old school. Rub some dirt on at baseball. Maybe
not banned from Westwood after all. Jason h Yes, Gonzaga
(10:39):
just threw the ball out of bounds, and I think
he was about ready to choke his players out right there.
It looked it looks like that was a bad look
form Mark. It really looked like they tried to pass
the ball to mccronin. I really he was the closest
guy in the I got you. And now it's another
himI Hoskes lay in laying and a free throw coming
(11:00):
for Hawks who now has twel got twenty six and
it can be a three point game with forty five
seconds left to go. Suddenly, Hey, I told you that
that time, when they looked at that ball going out
of bounce for so long, that was a huge help
for UCLA. How piss is Mark Cuban going to be
about that play? Oh, he's been very upset, very very
(11:23):
He's already filed an appeal on behalf of Gonzaga to
win this game. He's already done that. Yeah, it's happened,
so seventy four, seventy one Hawks. His free throw is good.
He's got twenty seven to go along with eleven boards,
forty one seconds left to go Gonzaga the free throw line.
As my dad would say, we have a lot of
(11:43):
golf left on this game. Twitter at, how about a fresca?
Mike gets swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon coming up next. Are we talking
about UCLA in the Elite eight and my bracket is
still alive? Or is it Gonzaga and the game of
his life for Drew Timmy? Keep it right here, Jason
and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
(12:04):
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. Wow. All I
can say is wow, I wish I had trademark sentence.
Are you blanking kid? Wow? Wow? Wow? Wow? Okay, lare's
(12:31):
there's let me explain, No, there is too much. Let
me sum up. UCLA has just had a tremendous comeback.
They were down nine with less than two minutes left
to go in the game, a furious comeback. You had
a couple of and ones by Jimi Hakez, and then
you had a three by Amri Bailey with thirteen seconds
(12:54):
left to go to give UCLA the seventy six seventy
five lead. Drew Timmy missed two free throws that could
have really put the icing on the game, but instead
Amari Bailey hits a three with twelve and a half
seconds left to go to give UCLA the lead. USLA
calls time out. Gonzaga has to inbound the ball from
(13:15):
under their basket. They get the ball up the floor
very quickly, and with seven seconds left on the clock,
Julian Strother hits a three from about the edge of
the Madness logo that gives Gonzaga a seventy eight seventy
six lead. There was no we're looking for a bucket here,
(13:35):
we only need two at seventy six seventy five strokes
the ball seven seconds and hits a Damian Lillard three
Like that's a that's the heroic shot of shots that
give them the lead. Gonzaga gets the ball back because
Tiger Campbell turns it over. With a couple of seconds left,
(13:57):
Ucla had the ball and everybody watching this game is
thinking the same thing, I am right. Strawthor hits the three,
and then what it's Thias Edney. Right, it's Thias Edney
and Tiger Campbell up the floor in the final seven
seconds and it looked like he was getting set to
pull up for a pull up to stop for a
pull up jumper, and he lost the ball. Strawthor picks
(14:19):
it up. He hits a free throw to make it
seventy nine seventy six. Tiger Campbell gets a last second
off balance three from just inside half court. It doesn't go.
Gonzaga beats Ucla seventy nine seventy six. What an unbelievable
thriller we just saw and Drew Timmy goes from hero
(14:41):
to goat back to Hero because his great game, he
missed those free throws opened the door for U and
he missed two. Wow, and then had the opportunity right.
He goes to the file line with two shots. He
misses the first one, makes the second, making it a
three point game, and then they did the hook and laugh. Yeah.
(15:04):
And you know, here's the thing I want to say
this right away is that the Strath shot is just unbelievable.
That is uh. I don't even know how to your
best describe that in terms of your analogy. I am.
I am going to say this. I'm gonna go out
on a limb here, Mike Harmon, I'm gonna go out
on a limit. I'm gonna say, I don't think that
was the play that Mark you drew up in the
(15:24):
in the huddle, I don't think that's what it means.
I don't create the lead blocker and then as he
runs up he fires up at three, which seven point
five remain Noah, probably not. I don't think a three
from the logo was the shot that he called up there.
I'm thinking that was more let's get it into Timmy,
who can either take it to the or find us
find somebody because he's such a great passer. I don't
(15:46):
think that was ad. That was one of those give
me the ball, I'm gonna make this shot? Was that
play right there? Yeah? Cold, yeah blooded? If you say
what you know, hey, you know, help me out with this.
I don't know what they mean when they say a
blooded three. You just show him that video right there,
because that's what that was. That was a cold blooded three.
By man had no conscience. It was like he knew
(16:08):
he was facing John Wick and this is the only
way he was going to survive for this movie. You know,
shooter or shoot right, this is the guy he's you know,
he averaging fifteen points a game, but he's four out
of fourteen on the night. Doesn't matter. I'm gonna take
this shot. He knew it was. That was a That
was a Lillard logo three for Strawuthor and I again,
(16:29):
I don't think that was That was one of those
player where Mark Few was like, no, no, no, what
are you doing? Yes? Yes, yes, right now, his family
and friends are all scrawling things on napkins and every
piece of paper they can find in the house to
create some turn of phrase to nil to hell out
of this thing. Gee, somebody get Timmy a trimmer. Get off, dude. Yeah,
(16:50):
but that's how Timmy's looked for years. Now. I mean
that that's it, and he's got four more years of eligibility.
He's gonna be a thirty eight. Yeah, he's gonna be
an He'll still be a Gonzaga when the Mets are
done paying Bobby Benia. Oh that's how long he's gonna
be there for. Look at that. I mean, really, U
cele Gonzag get him together, right, you get a game
like this, But you know, but the thing Tiger Campbell,
it's like on the final drive after they get the ball,
(17:13):
you know, he makes the shot, he's got time to
get up the floor because he's fast, and they and Gonzaga,
you know, falls back, they allow them to inbound the basketball.
And I think he felt like he got caught because
he went to the right side. He had two defenders there,
and rather than look for a pass because he had
a couple of seconds, he panicked and he just lost
the ball. I mean, he just lost the ball when
(17:36):
it was either a pull up jumper or some kind
of play because Campbell had a couple of seconds. But
he's got it. It's he's got like three and a
half seconds left and he goes up and the defender
just slaps the ball out of his hand and it
goes to Gonzaga, and Gonzaga wins the game. Who unbelievable.
Oh man, this is March. This is March. I'll tell
(17:57):
you this is absolutely Jason, just a fact that you
LA was still in it and took it to the
final one point four. It is amazing itself, but that's it. Right,
They're down nine at two h five, can't score for
nine minutes, getting outrebound them like fifty to twenty. Final
second half numbers forty six thirty is the scoring in
(18:18):
the second half. They were down nine, they didn't have
a bucket till a minute fourteen eleven, still grabbed the
lead temporarily and then we see the shot of shots man.
This is just an incredible end. Wow, I really, I mean,
Gonzaga survives. They eliminate UCLA seventy nine seventy six, a
(18:38):
game that it looked like USLA had in the bag
in the first half they were up by thirteen. Then
it looked like Gonzaga had it because useilated hit a
shot for ten minutes and then getting back in it.
And maybe maybe I'm overestimating this this a little bit
because part of the drama at the end was the
fact that USA looked like they were out of gas. Right,
they were out of gas, They were tired, They don't
(18:59):
have a big bench. There miss a couple of players,
we've talked about that. And there was a little bit
less than two minutes left to go, and Gonzaga had
the ball and they were facing a shot clock violation
where it was the clock was ticking down. Gonzaga took
a shot, it didn't draw iron. It looked like it
was going out of bounds and drew Timmy comes and
tries to do the I'm gonna save it by throwing
(19:20):
it off the UCLA player, And he throws it off
UCLA player and the ball bounces, and it bounces out
of bounds, but it bounces out of bounds right around
the time the shot clock hit zero, which it doesn't
go out of bounds, and they've had the ball, it's
gonna be a shot clock violation. So they spent a
good few minutes, I want to say at least four
or five minutes. First they were looking at did the
(19:41):
ball hit the rim, because it clearly went out of
bounds off a UCLA player, But did the ball go
off the rim? Did it not? And then if it
didn't go off the rim, then did it go out
of bounds before the shot clock hit zero? And that
four if I mean, I kind of said it, but
I was kind of only half serious, but I wonder
if that amount of time just gave the UCLA players,
We got time to just sit back and rest and
(20:03):
and and gear up for the last minute and a
half because they had they were done, and now somebody
they couldn't miss hawks is at the rim for end
one and end one and then a big three and
it's like all of a sudden, here comes you know,
Ucla is back like they were, like they were never gone.
I wonder if that four or five minute stretch of
looking at that play let them just catch their breath
(20:23):
for a couple of minutes and either clear their heads
and reset and get them back or at least get
them time to just not have to worry about running
up and down the court and get some energy back. Yeah,
just did And look, we know the resiliency, right, get
the back in the tank for you, and you're coaching
your daughter's teams, here's some orange slices like Peyton Manning.
I mean, you gotta follow the and emulate the best, right,
(20:46):
and you can get rolled through like they're highly conditioned,
pressure packed tested athletes up and down the line. So
you know you're at the finish line and that you.
You had a moment to regroup, somebody maybe said ted
Lasso like inspirational quote or a grunt like your Roy Kent,
(21:09):
and you got back out there and you gave it
a hell of a show in that final minute fourteen
seconds that you know, you got a lot of folks
nervous man on also all fronts, because as soon as
it opens the door again, it's like, oh, we're gonna
lose a heartbreaker again. And that shot, Man, that that's
(21:29):
one that Cronin and all these guys are gonna be
seeing for forever. Man, you're gonna know exactly where he
was above the arc when he let that thing go.
Unbelievable ending. This is March. This is March. I mean
we've seen that play before, right, we talk about start.
We've seen the three where hey, I'm coming up and
(21:52):
the trailer takes it. Oh it's good, it's a good,
uh but licking move. But I can't believe at that
moment that was there in the game where Timmy's got
thirty six points and I mean, maybe they would get it,
they would collapse on him, they would send him the
free throw line. But ah, you only need you only
need a bucket. You don't need a three. I really,
I really wonder if that was the play that was called.
(22:14):
As he pulled up and was getting ready to shoot,
I stood up in the studio here like wait what
and then it goes down like wow. I mean, you
talk about clutch pressure, whatever terms you want to use
on it, and I'm sure the phrase you'll come up
with a few burminisms before we get out of here
for it. But yeah, that lead blocker, I mean, you
(22:36):
can't defend in front of him right, No, unless you're
chasing him down. So that's about as clean a look
as you're gonna get, even if you drive to the
basket at that point, because you're also moving the ball
up quickly. Timmy's not back on the block at that point.
So you know, the one thing I will tell you
about this, watching it as many times as I have,
is that it doesn't look like Timmy is moving for
(22:59):
the ball at him right like I'm watching, because obviously
that's where the ball's gonna go. It doesn't look like
he is moving to get the ball at any point,
and you want to get it to him because you're
talking about a game in which you have less than
ten seconds left to go at this point, right, you
want it. You don't want to give it to him
with like two seconds left, So maybe it was well,
I mean, you gotta get Look, the worst thing that
can happen is trying to get cute and say, all right,
(23:21):
we're going down on the block and you got seven
seconds left, right, But UCLA one of your better defending teams,
even without the space. Like you see, Timmy is kind
of walking up and then he starts to aggressively work
towards a potential rebound situation frantically. Yeah, but he wasn't
gonna get that if that, if that missed, he wasn't
getting that ball. He was he was just standing there.
(23:43):
He was he got to end a rope a dope
and then he spun back. But yeah, it's that's it.
I mean, that's that's the call of calls. And you
know what, it's just like we drew it up. That's
the that's the answer from few and everybody else. You know,
we run that trailer play, you know it's like the
old uh Duayne Wade Lebron James play with the dunk
(24:05):
and he's staring at the camera after he lobs it
up Yeah, that's it. That's what we did right there,
except it's a three point and from thirty feet away. Wow, unbelievable. Hey,
how did it sound when it looked like UCLA was
gonna win there up by a point and Gonzaga's shot.
That's gonna live in March Madness forever. Here's how it sounded. Strawther,
we'll get it in. Salas picks it up, clock Star.
(24:27):
It's eleven seconds, Salas across the top one pitch a
back straw the deep free from the top of the key,
got it, Scraber from the top seven seconds loft. Campbell
on the run into the front court, drives the right
side script, come on, Strawler's got it filled with one
point one to go, Ryan rad Key Westwood one on
the call. There it was the Strawther three tiger. Campbell
(24:49):
loses the ball and Gonzaga moves on unreal to the
elite who eight where their prize is? Oh a Yukon teen.
That didn't break us sweat tonight against Arkansas? Oh that
was it was a nice rollover win there. He came
in and took care of business and again now and
now my bracket has done. Uh and get zaga. Did
(25:13):
you have a get zage? I did nice, But so
I at least have one of eight teams. Yeah that's good. Yeah, yo,
you can still win. You can still win, yeah if
you have. But now you're talking about the games tonight.
We have a three and a four playing for the
final four, and a three and a nine playing for
the final four. Who this is great? Maybe? Hey, can
(25:35):
I still win if I don't have either team in
the National Championship game? Can I still wink? No? You
can go through all the permutations. If you want to
go and look at everybody's bracket that is in that contest,
head at it. I might be able. I'll leave that
for you. I'm gonna get ready. Just know you beat
one person's bracket that's in the studio tonight. Oh who
did I beat? Tshirt? Howd UCSB winning it all? Oh?
(26:04):
Better than tight shirt? Um, better than much better than
tight shirt? Better than tight shirt? Who else in your
final four besides UCSB? Oh? Gosh, I have to look,
but I think I had them against Pittsburgh for the final. Okay,
UCSB in Pittsburgh, Yeah, I was. I can do the
same too, Okay, all right? Yeah? Would that would be tough.
(26:24):
You're right. Well, either way I win. Then you know.
Oh no, that is true. That is true. There you know?
Or I would say maybe the old Nick Pacai push
there are no winners here. If you had UCSB in
pitt and it happened that way, you would be able
to quit Fox Sports Radio because you would do interviews
with people for the rest of your life. A millionaire,
(26:45):
How did you have this? How did you have a
fourteen and eleven? I just did. I just did. I
don't really pay attention. And you work in sports. Yeah,
but I don't really pay attention. I do. I do
anime stuff while the show was on the air. Yeah,
and I do that stuff. Yeah, I do anime. But
but how did you pick those? I don't know. I
just did. What do you want to talk about? I'm
a health food guy too. What do you want to know?
(27:05):
I look good. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeart Radio app Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith
Show with My best Friend Mike Harmon. The Jason Smith
(27:26):
Show with My best Friend Mike Harmon as always is
live from the tire rack dot Com studio is where
we just watched an all time thriller. Gonzaga beats UCLA
seventy nine seventy six. Julian Strawthor hits a three from
the logo with seven seconds left to go. Tiger Campbell
turns the ball over on the subsequent drive. Gonzaga moves
(27:47):
on to the Elite eight. Ucla goes home. Now the
big question here is this, right, I'm gonna ask you
a question, my carman, I'm gonna give you, give me
your gut reaction. We watch a game like this and
you see Gonzaga, who were years has been the first.
They were the mighty engine that could look at Gonzaga
in the early two thousands, they were a team that
(28:08):
every year, who are they? And here they are pulling
all these upsets in the NCAA Tournament. And then they
turn into a power and they become a one seed
for a few years, and suddenly Gonzaga is an overwhelming
favorite and maybe Gonzaga finishes the year undefeated. No, they can't.
They lose. Drew Timmy can't close the deal. He's been
there now eleven years at Gonzaga seems it. Now they're
(28:30):
a three seed. They're still a really good team, but
they don't have the bulls eye on them like they
did in years past. They win this game over UCLA.
They get Yukon coming up, who's been playing out of
their shoes, and I don't think anybody had to take
a postgame shower tonight because they took care of Arkansas
kind of early. Is this a Gonzaga team that gets
(28:51):
blown out of the next game and goes home? Or
is this is this is the year Gonzaga breaks through
and finally wins the NCAA tournament. Which if you had
to go one way or the other right now, which
way are you leaning? Next game? Hey? This was their escape.
They're emotionally drained. What do they have left after this
game two days later? Or is this no? Here was
(29:12):
that game where suddenly we know we survive, we advanced,
This is our time and they win the tournament. I
don't know if they win it, but succeed in proceed
is a time honored tradition in college buckets. Man Mark
Fee will have them ready for Saturday and they'll shift
some things here and they know they got a little
bit of an escape here, showed great resiliency. He's gonna
(29:36):
talk and they're gonna spend their time talking about that
part of it, which was the positives, but obviously cleaning
up a little bit of that frantic final minute fourteen
that they went through. But to your point, you look
at the years that they became the powerhouse, and he
started to pick them, saying, all right, the number one seeds,
they're going to roll through, and they would be on
(29:58):
that list of teams you can never or pick to
go all the way through, right, just based on past proceedings,
and like, yeah, even with the big guy, even though
he's one of the few names everybody that follows college basketball,
it all knows that they possibly they weren't jumping back
onto this iteration of it, especially with UCLA sitting there
(30:21):
in the bracket. And then, like anything, it takes strange
turns because nobody was talking up Yukon before the season,
and certainly even during the season, they kind of laid
low on a national level, and then you come in
and you're starting to look for darlings in the tournament
and guess what, not only are they playing well and winning,
(30:42):
they're kicking ass and the opportunity today they just went
and absolutely obliterated the opponent and moving on. So now
it's the they're rested that that's going to be the
hard part. So playing the slow it down to Timmy
game is going to be one hundred percent. But are
you going to be able to shoot well from the
(31:02):
outside or those guys the secondary player is going to
be able to rise up because you can't expect Timmy
to uh, you know, be Atlas again. I'm gonna say
this is gonna be Ukon and they're gonna win by
double digits. Look at you, right, not just because of
the Hey you're coming back from an emotional game. You
have the day off and Saturday, Gonzaga was able to
(31:23):
win this game. So it was a bad matchup for UCLA, right,
they were missing Bona, they're missing Clark, two of the
best players. Yeah yeah, and it was a bad matchup
and UCLA had no bench and they were still able
to nearly pull this off and they need a heroic
shot from Strathor to pull it off at the end.
You're talking about Yukon that is playing at a really
high level. Right. They're scoring a lot, their defense is
(31:46):
really good, I don't think this is a great matchup
for for Gonzaga. Look, look, Timmy went nuts because US
late didn't have anybody to guard him, right, I mean,
I think Ryan Hollins was getting his gearback on to
go back out there, and hey, I can give you
a couple up downs and get in front of Timmy
make sure he doesn't get to the basket. But I
just don't. I don't think this is a great matchup
(32:06):
for Gonzaga. That yes, they they they're able to to
get by with this one, but this is not your
classically great Gonzaga team. They have a little bit of
holes and Yukon is a pretty complete team. And it's
gonna be hard for me to say, hey, here's how
Gonzaga is gonna do it again. It's like it is
Timy gonna score thirty again. It's hard for me to
see that. So I'm gonna take, even though it's a
(32:27):
great win tonight, both games tonight, I'll take Yukon and
Dan Hurley on Saturday. Yeah, I think they I think
it Zaga loses, but I don't think they get blown out.
I think they slow it down enough that they hang
uh And then so like thirty thirty ninety five. It'll
be in the sixties. Slow it down, baby, oh like
(32:47):
the weather. Hey, we gotta we'll be in the sixties here.
Uh So, there you go. There's your quick preview of
Yukon Gonzaga three fours uh three verses four headed to
the Elite eight on Saturday. I'm excited that we have
another full day of regionals. Like it feels like all
I've got enough with the games to night. Now we
got another full day tomorrow Syracuse plays Northwestern. It's gonna
(33:10):
be awesome. We got exciting night Tomorrow night Syracuse Show.
