Radio Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my
bes friend Mike Harmon. Yes, we are sorry, Frank the
tank not happy the Devil's losing tonight to the Hurricanes.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Did we find any video of him soaking through a
concourse or anything that?
Speaker 1 (00:44):
It's only one game? I think he's okay. It's one
game that was in Carolina.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I mean that guy rides the lightning. What are you talking?
And I think he's alright. Though, he's alright, it's one game.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
They beat the They're still living off that high of
beating the Rangers, man, I mean, that's this This series
hasn't even started for them yet. Well, when you can

out of the NBA playoffs tonight to get to We
got Rick Bucher coming up in a few minutes. We'll
see visit from him like it always is. But we
watch the Sixers tonight. Completely validate Joel Embid's MVP trophy.
I complete. They came out tonight in game two. They
threw the hammer down on the Celtics one fifty five
(01:38):
to seventy nine. Joel embiid forty nine points, twenty eight rebounds,
twenty one assists, really validating the day after winning MVP,
obviously motivated by the big MVP rolex James Harden gave
him before the game. Oh wait, he validated that MVP. Man,
I'm the MVP. Look at this, I'm the whiz and
(01:58):
nobody beats me except at all.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
I think the rolex weighed him down. Did he had
that on him?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Maybe that's why he didn't go up as high for
the rebounds. Maybe if we only had three rebounds tonight yeah,
he really had three. Look, the Celtics just absolutely boat race.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
But it was an eight point game and half right,
I mean, it's a close at my signal, a.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Thirty point game by the time we got to the
midway point of the fourth quarter, and you're sitter, going,
do I do live betting here at thirty two and
a half? Do I take the live betting that absolutely blow.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
And taking the over cashed?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
And you know, and that's the thing is that I
can't say I'm surprised. Look, the Celtics are the better team.
They lose game one, but here are the Sixers and
Joel Embiid. They've gone to such great lengths to tell
us about the MVP and how great Joel Embiid is.
He doesn't play in game one and they win. He
comes back for game two and he's barely there, and
(02:56):
he scores fifteen points. He pulls down three rebounds. Three
rebounds for well, Embiid, come on, man, three rebounds and
you're not even close in this game.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
That's why I said yesterday, I'm glad Embiid won the
MVP so I can stop hearing him in the Sixers
complain about how how come he's not the MVP. But
what did I say yesterday? Now, show me you're the MVP.
Come back and show me why you should win. This
is the effort we get coming up the day before
you win the MVP, and because you're so self satisfied,
because winning the MVP was so incredibly important to Philadelphia
(03:29):
and incredibly important to Joel Embiid. He wanted to win,
He wanted to win, he wanted to win.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
He won. Why am I not? Why am I not?
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Doc Rivers making sure after every big game I again
to believe he's not the MVP. Well, when he has
a game where he scores fifteen points and has three rebounds,
we're not talking about him being the MVP. Oh, we're
gonna we're gonna cherry pick when we can decide when
Joel Embid's the MVP, when he's not, when Steph Curry
is the best point guard of all time, and when
he's not a couple of games ago, Yeah, the last
games they played. No, So this is what I want.
(03:57):
I want joelnbi to show me you care about when
he championship and you really care about being the MVP.
Show me you're the MVP. Show me come out instead
with an effort like this tonight, where you are Philadelphia
and you have a chance to really win the series tonight.
You know I get going in saying hey we got one,
We're okay going home. Well, you know what, going home,
you gotta win both games. It's not like going home,
(04:19):
we's got to win one.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
It's going home.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
We still gotta win both games. Still a lot of
pressure to win both games at home. You go up
to nothing and you have a Celtics team that's asking themselves,
what is happening to us? How do we lose this
We had a big lead late, they didn't have Embiid?
How do we lose this game? And you come out
and you just get smoked like that at halftime when
Embiid is still pretty fresh after sitting out a couple
of I don't get it. I don't get it. This
is how do you not validate? How do you not
(04:42):
come out with an MVP performance and show everybody this
is why I just won the MVP yesterday. I'm gonna
show you why I'm the MVP today. That's only natural
you would get some kind of performance, and instead you
got no performance. His performance talk about em Bean's performance.
The guy had three reabuns. We talked about his performance
three ReBs.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
We are on a four LA Sports and anybody in
Los Angeles listening to that in their cars heading home
from work or listening wherever you may be, maybe at
work right now. You laughed because you invoked the memory
of Tommy Lasorda and that famous rant. They were just
commemorated the Lee Elia rant the other day. Over the weekend.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
It was hand runs office.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Just performance these people out here and you have performance
one hundred percent. Yeah, it's it's a difficult thing to
watch because we we had embid gets his MVP and
everybody's excitable. All right, now he gets one in the column.
We can have the debates and you see a lot
of talking heads getting after each other. Well, how did
this guy not win it? Why did this guy not
get the vote? Like all the award's done?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Who cares?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Okay, yeah, maybe voter fatigue is part of it. One
guy actually left jokicch off his ballot. Altogether, you're fired.
You don't get to vote again. But go on down,
Jannis and whoever else you're a guy. Uh. Jalen Huson
wasn't in the top six but he was there in
our hearts. But all of that aside, we had nebulous
(06:08):
injury information about Joel Embiid. Yeah, he's progressing every day. Well,
if he's just sitting on his ass, Yeah, in theory,
he's getting slightly better every day.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Where's it well?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
And then all of a sudden we get the notice
yesterday he intended to play this morning, that's upgraded. And
now we get him back in and it's like Jimmy
Butler for your game against the Knicks. A lot of
questions of whether he was gonna play, and then he didn't.
Then he's on the sideline and we watch what transpires.
But that was the question with him, beat of well
(06:36):
should he sit because they've already stolen that game that
they were able to get game one long. Instead, he plays,
and right alongside his effort, you get a thirty two
minute two of fourteen effort from James Harden. Well efforts
so bad I have to watch it.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Right, that's not surprising because we be told you the
other night, Yeah, Harden's gonna can give you this once
in a great while. But now you're asking him, hey,
come back one night after and had that no you
can't do that any much.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Twelve points. Not that player Forward's four assists. He was
zero for six from three point range. And right alongside
him Maxi only had thirteen points. Like the two of
them combined for twenty five on eight of twenty eight shooting.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
But in Beid looked good. He moved around well, it's
not like I thought a beads really he moved around well.
Three rebounds, four nine, not active on the glass. Great
effort by the Celtics. You saw some good contributions on
the board from their bench, and overall you got a
big effort that coming off of the game one loss,
which you would have expected. And the one thing that
(07:36):
you circle on this one, the cant get a whole
hell of a.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Lot from Jason Tatum, you know, the other guy that
was in the early season. Yeah, no MVP talk. This
hasn't been that quieted and moved on. He had seven points,
seven points, nineteen minutes, he was in foul trouble, one
of seven from the field, and.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
They win by thirty four. This is why the.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Knicks are going to the finals. That beat the crap
out of either of these teams. Knicks, Lakers, get ready
man passed.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Jimmy Buckets red any Buckets has been getting jamping around
the clock.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
He is ready, Nah, get read. Jimmy Buckets has done
his thing. Get ready, get ready, getting warmed up for
you kid Nicks Lakers.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Adam Silver, I mean it, still in his office in
New York, petting a white cat, pressing buttons, saying things
like you have seth Greenhay, things like Moneypenny.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Come on, just put the Nixon Lakers in the finals
right now. Now. We can't do that, Scott. They have
to actually play the games.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Why you're the commissioner just making Nixon Lakers. Nobody's gonna care.
Everybody's gonna be happy now, Scott. We gotta have the games.
Gotta have the game.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
In all seriousness, is there anything in the by laws
of the NBA that allows him to I don't think
that actually playing games.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
I don't think some Wait, Frostburg, this is the best
for our league.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
You have in this moment. You have the buyelaws of
the NBA.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Does Adam Silver have the power to make a Knicks
Lakers finals begin tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Absolutely not. He's gotta be Lakers Celtics.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
You're a jerk. I try to say something nice, prosper
Why was that something nice?
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Because the Knicks Lakers is the joke on the show.
It's Nicks Lakers. It's now is that nice to me?
It's it's Lakers, So they're obviously in it.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Obviously. How is the Knicks in it? Nice to me? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
I think that's one of the in the agreement and
the operating Charter of the NBA, all of these things
of commissioner powers and then it's got you know, whatever
it is. Line one is particularly relevant if the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Are in fact back, but the writers are off now,
so how are they gonna get the How they're gonna
get that stuff?
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Chat GBT right now, I can't do anything yet, Scott, No,
come on outam Silver. Just send Scott Foster to every
game and you got the Knicks in, you get the
Lakers now.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I can't do that, Scott. People are gonna say questions.
He trends on Twitter every time we send him somewhere.
I can't do it. Can't do it, Scott, come on,
just do it. Just put him in.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Everybody wants you thought Lakers Warriors ratings were good, Lakers
Knicks would be in the they would beat the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Oh my god, it would be insane.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
We talked about those yesterday. I mean, he wasn't believing
those numbers.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
They would say, they would they would ABC would say
three billion people watched it.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Yeah, and they would say, we can't have four out
of seven. It's got to be eleven out of twenty one.
We need to this guy. This has to go all
the way to training camp.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Now, stay tuned for a special Craze anatomy coming up next.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
If this series is now seven three Lakers, is it over?
Can the Knicks come back at seven three? They would
get Stu Lance and Clyde Fraser on the call. Oh no,
they all call the games together. You got the Knicks
in the they all call the games basketball. Where there's
a line of like thirty seven people, Yeah, thirty.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Seven shot up. No, it's in like a naked gun.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, Kirk Gowdy, Jim Palmer, dig Vital, doctor Joyce brothers.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Yeah, all the way. Soon as you get doctor Joy's
brothers in, you've won. Pop gun.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
The last time the Knicks were relevant, Wait a minute,
wait a minute, eighty six, he said a naked gun. Oh,
naked gun. Oh ninety four?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Yeah, okay, well, ninety nine went to the finals, don't forget,
and then said relevant and then oh okay, well ninety
nine going to.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
That ninety or had some other things having to do
with that was relevant. Yeah, yeah, no, you're right, you're right. No,
that was rough.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
And then we went to the second round in twenty twelve.
So it's been it's been, it's been a minute.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Did you hang the banner?
Speaker 2 (11:15):
But out here that yeah, second round twenty twelve. You
know what else happened in twenty twelve? A lot of
hope in Indianapolis went Andrew Luck because.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
And also a lot of people thought the world was
gonna end twenty twelve, the Mayan calendar, It's going to end.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Wait, was that a Nick Cage movie?
Speaker 1 (11:30):
No, that was no, there's John Cusack guy. Oh even
when the Capitol records. Yeah no, it was flying off.
Yeah it was qsack.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
You know what I love is everything ask for the
White Sox for tickets after stumping for the Cubs.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Again, you know, every time just just just went. Every
time we get to a point in some calendar where
people think the world's gonna end, right, the world's world's
ending tomorrow. Okay, and they get publicity for the world's ending,
the world tomorrow, The world is ending tomorrow. The World's
ending tomorrow. And then what happens when you get those people, Well,
I think I might have screwed up the calendar. No, no, no, no,
don't scrub the calend Is there any mistake on the calendar?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Any mistake on the calendar?
Speaker 5 (12:04):
No?
Speaker 1 (12:04):
No, look good, because I'm gonna call you tomorrow. I'm
gonna call you tomorrow. No, that's the world's not gonna
be here. It's not gonna be Here'm sorry, it's not
gonna be here.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I went to work at Yahoo early nineteen ninety nine.
Guess who had to sit at that damn complex for
like forty eight hours because of why.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Two k Guess who had a feed us alive?
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Don't get me wrongly at midnight on New Year's Yes,
you know that would have been a great practical joke
for midnight. What the pilot gets on the plane and
goes let Everyboddy know that everything is all okay up here,
and then just the lights go off in the cabin.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Just kidding. We'll get back to your end flight server.
Everybody get three.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Drys I don't think that. I think that, I think
you might have some problems. Although no second that point, yeah, no,
second thought they.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Were right in twenty twenty three. Yeah oh hell.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
No oh you no, no, no, I mean like back
in yeah, back in maybe there was a chuck Yeah, yeah,
the age of innocence over there?
Speaker 3 (12:56):
That was it bigger hoax? Why too, k or the
Jets being good with Rogers? Oh, stop with that. That
Jets are not a hope. Well, at least that could
have been bad coding.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Here's just bad decision making and a guy being all
phony and smiling everywhere.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
It wasn't. There wasn't anything really with Y two. I
can't remember anything that What are you talking about? It
was like the biggest thing ever we were thought the world?
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Was it? No?
Speaker 2 (13:17):
I know there was some bad coding that went on
and but some but institutions, But it wasn't. It wasn't
a full rupture of the industrial complex. How do you
like that?
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Yeah? No, that maybe sound smart print that no electronic
was automatically gonna crash at midnight.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
It was either gonna crash or was going to attack
you because Skynet becomes.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Aware that cam right, watch out you're gonna go to
knock on the door. All of a sudden that cassette
player decided to choke you out.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
It's gonna knocking door, Sarah Connor, shut the door. Shut
the door, say no, say.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
No, shut the door.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Never heard of her.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Oh you know, the white was it? And I'm it
was like what because it was what plane supposedly? Oh yeah,
all the electric have the uh me an electricity ability
to go to uh.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
To that we don't have that.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
We don't.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, yeah, no one, no one's made that anymore right,
And everything was fine a joke.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I said.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
We had this conversation on the day my daughter laid
out the final piece of an ap computer science problem
for like a half hour, like going to work, and
she's just going line by line writing out the code.
This is what I got to and this is like
I understand parts of this and I really dig this,
but I don't think it would make a plane crash.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
So I think that was good. It All that's good
was the money was all the money, ground money.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
They update all their software eight seven for sure.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Hey you know, I bet you Norton anti virus they
cleaned up money there.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Oh yeah, yeah, they made so much security.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, armed sentinels outside your house
because the electric electronics weren't going to work. Saw what
he got a whole line of guys ready to come
and arg.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
That was the idea for the Purge, you know, the
heye because Ethan Hawk was selling home security from the Purge, right,
but that was the idea. Hey, remember y two k
people spend all that money on stuff. Yeah, let's uh,
let's let's watch how it can go terribly ready, what
if it's a whole thing where like crime was legal
for a day.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Let's do that. Let's put that in the movie, right,
And that's why they were met.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
That's why they attacked his house because, oh, you made
all this money off the white jerk Twitter it out
about a Fresco, Mike hat swollen down, the Jason Smith Show,
My best friend Mike.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
Cars and you know what's funny, What's up show? So
if you think about it, someone was right though somewhere.
So like with Greek time, Roman time, POMPEII, there was
somebody was like, no, this time is the time, and
everybody's like, nah, there's no way, and then they were right.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Ryan.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Nowadays you can put up a new video every morning
on TikTok or YouTube. Just take down the last one. Yeah, Sam,
And so you could be right all the time.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, but no, people, what were people right about?
Speaker 7 (15:54):
Well, I mean, didn't those civilizations ended? So somebody was
predicting and they're like, no, you're crazy, child's it's just end.
Speaker 6 (16:00):

Buker and Rick I will welcome you with two words tonight.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Nix yo, Nick.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, that's all I need to I've been saying it
all year and nobody's believing me. How good the Nick saw?
And I'm telling you I'm telling you we're going to
the NBA Finals. We're gonna here we go again, Rick,
We'll beat either of these pretenders. Here in Boss and Spin.
Philadelphia Knicks Lakers, NBA Finals, Let's go.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
I'm ready, all right.
Speaker 8 (17:05):
First of all, we have to correct something. You haven't
been saying it all year. You have been saying it
for years and why. That's why, while you may be
correct as far as them being good this year and
better than a lot of people gave them credit, for
(17:27):
the fact that you've been saying it for years sort
of discounts your ability to say. See, I'm telling you
something that I knew and you didn't.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
I disagree. I disagree.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Why trying to put Tom Brady in retirement for a
decade and a half and many years ago.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Two years ago, I told you the Knicks were good
last year, I did not. This year, I'm telling you
they're good.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I've been right. I've been right those times. I've been right.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Jalen Brunson, best guard the Knicks have had in the
last fifty years.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Come on, yeah, all right, yeah there, yeah, yeah, all right.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
So here's the thing that's not that's not that's not
a compliment. That's not a good thing.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I'm just celebrating we're here now. I mean, I can't
do anything about the fifty years proceeding.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
That's the guy that stepped forward. You are tribute. Why
because I'm better than no you step forward?
Speaker 3 (18:19):
I could just do something about now.
Speaker 8 (18:21):
I would kind of be quiet about that. I don't
know that i'd be after.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
So sort of like Joelle embiid all chessy about winning
the MVP. Should not be that loud about it after tonight.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
Yeah, well, look, I you saw the emotion that he
had in winning it, and and I think that that
emotion carried over like I'm going to play, I should play,
or and I just I don't think that he should
be playing. It's not clear exactly how bad the knee
is or what he has in it. And I fully
(18:54):
get like being full of I want MVP and I
want to help my team. And they won, you know,
they won one without me. Let me go help them.
But that's where, you know, and I don't know the
ins and outs in terms of did somebody from the
Philolphy seventy six ers try to stop him from playing tonight?
(19:15):
But I just you know, seeing him play it it
had the exact opposite effect. He was. He wasn't an
m v P NOA tonight, and he wasn't in any way.
Speaker 5 (19:28):
The guy that that I voted for uh as MVP
and and so, and you could tell like he was
trying to look like an MVP. He just look he's.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
Didn't look in shape, didn't look like he could move like.
It just was not It was not a good idea.
And I just I don't know whether you know, he
convinced the Sixers that he should or he could, but
quite clearly he shouldn't have.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Well, getting back on the court, they change up offensively
and James Harden disappears after that game one heroics.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (20:06):
Well but here's the other thing too. I mean, I
don't know that Hardin, at this stage of his career
could have given you two of those in.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
A row anyway, right, you talked about that the Light
Night for sure.
Speaker 8 (20:16):
Yeah, so I get I get that. I just I
don't know, you know, if Joel doesn't play, then does
Tobias Harris or does somebody else step up? Does does
Tyres MAXI? I mean I do think that they obviously
in game in the first game, the Celtics not facing
(20:40):
Joel Embiid are thinking well, we've got this and played
it like there was guys in the league call it
a professional win. You just do enough to win. You
get to the fourth quarter and you like that, and
that's when you try to turn it on and in.
When you're playing about enough team, you can get away
(21:01):
with that. But when you're playing a team that has
James Harden who can go nuclear like he did, then
you're you're playing with fire. And they ultimately paid the
price for it. And so I get where that worked
to the benefit of the Sixers. Not having it was
almost like a psychological advantage that they had over the Celtic.
(21:21):
Celtics just didn't approach them the same way, playing far
different than they than I'm sure that they prepared for
them when it came to watching Cape going into this series.
And then the reverse happens where the Sixers get Joel
mb back and they're thinking, well, we beat them without them,
and then we got the MVP, and the Celtics play
(21:47):
at a much higher level because they're thinking, well, we
got beat by these guys without Joel and beat now
they got Joel, and now we have to play that
much better and it sounds so simplistic, and it sounds
like you got I'm sure there's people out there listening
right now going are you kidding me? These are professional
professional athletes, either professional basketball players who played for years
(22:07):
and do it. I'm telling you, Mentally, when when a
guy is not there, I've seen it time and time
and time again. We'll probably go to your Knicks playing
the heat without freaking Jimmy Butler, same kind of deal.
Guys just they mentally let up because they're the fear
(22:29):
or the respect for that other team is just not
at the same level.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Rick Buker, our guest here the Jason Smith Show with
Mike Carmon Live from the tirec dot Com studio, is
all right, let's go from the East to the West
at Well two look a series that is dwarfing everything
you swatched. From the tip off last night. It felt
like an NBA Finals game the way it's been treated
Laker Warriors. It comes down to the final play. And
this is a conversation we've had on the show before.
(22:53):
Not very popular takes it because I know you and
I are on the same page with this. Is that
but watching the Warriors and Steph Curry. If you want
to talk about him being the greatest point guard of
all time after he scores fifty against the Kings. The
flip side of it is in close games, he can't
get his own shot off at the end because he's
not big enough. And the Lakers did exactly what they
needed to do last night. The Curry brings the ball up,
(23:15):
they run two defenders at him, and now the best
point guard of all time is completely out of the
final play. I mean, that's something that I would think
the Warriors would have a plan around that by now.
Speaker 8 (23:25):
Rick Well, they normally would, and there was just there
was a number of mistakes on that and in fact
they do. I think that they won. They got lulled
by that fifty point performance the previous game, Game seven,
when he was able to come up and get what
(23:46):
he needed or what they needed, and in that circumstance,
like Steve Kerr was caught between calling a time out
and setting something up but me but then having to
face thes also being able to set up their half
court defense with a relatively short game clock, or trusting
(24:09):
that he has guys out there that are four time
champions and I'm going to let them go and figure
it out. And it wasn't just on Stepp but Draymond
Green and Jordan Poole were slow getting up the court.
They were behind the ball and they should have been
(24:32):
ahead of it in that circumstance. They were also practically
standing next to each other at the top of the key,
so the ball was going to go to Draymond in
the middle of the floor. Jordan Pool's about three four
feet away from them and doesn't start to get wide
until the ball gets to Draymond Green. And now his
(24:53):
angle's not going to be the same. He's not at
the three point line, and he doesn't have the option
of catching it and swinging it Klay Thompson in the
corner if they close out hard on him. So they
made a mess of that that you would have expected
that a team with their experience would not have. And
(25:14):
that's at the heart of it, because honestly, you're right,
and we talked about this many times about the ability
to trap steff the ball out of Steph's hands. But
if they trap him and he swings it to to
Draymond and Draymond either hits Jordan Poole with his toes
on the three point line or Jordan swings it to
Clay and they hit that three, then we're not complaining
(25:37):
about this play. And their counter for being able to
trap the ball out of Steph's hands is that he
gets it to Draymond and then he's able to run
off of however many screens you want to set, but
make Jared Vanderbilt or Dennis Shuter, whoever it is, chase
him and then catch the ball and be able to
(26:00):
shoot in the microsecond that he needs to get it off.
That's that's how they've operated it, and that's been their
counter to the fact that because he's six ' three
to one ninety, you can trap him with sixty five
sixty six, you know, normal sized defenders, and in this
instance they simply they didn't. They didn't execute, plain and simple,
(26:24):
otherwise they may have done it different. It reminds me, honestly,
it reminds me a lot of Game one against Sacramento Kings,
where they came in they weren't sure exactly what they
were facing, and as the series went on, they could
have sold that game and it probably would have made
for a shorter series, but they didn't. But they made
(26:44):
adjustments along the way. And as I look to I
look at this series, I think the Lakers are what
they are. They're very good at what they are. But
the Warriors have like they have multiple adjustments and things
that they can change about how they play. Now, will
(27:05):
it ultimately be good enough? I think it will be.
I think that they can win the series. I expect
them to win the series, but we're going to find out.
I just look at the options that Deep Kerr has
at his disposal and his experience making those changes, and
I can't expect any of that out of Darvin Ham
and the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Yeah, Rick, I got I screamed myself horse calling for
a time out before Pool heave the shot.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
But for the Lakers, conversely.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
You got many a weary minute out of Anthony Davis
second half stats clearly dip in production zone defense work
because the Lakers can't shoot. But can you get those
kind of minutes out of Lebron and ad consistently in
this series before they wear down?
Speaker 8 (27:48):
Boy, it's going to be It's going to be a
challenge for sure. I'm what I'm really interested in seeing.
I mean, they don't really don't have any choice if
those guys aren't playing deep minutes. Then I don't know
how they're are going to succeed against against the Warriors.
I don't know that they're necessarily going to be able
to Anthony Davis if he wants to get thirty and
(28:13):
twenty every night, which he hasn't shown the ability to
consistently do that. But if he has the aggressive, aggressive mindset,
he can get thirty and twenty. He can get thirty
and twenty, and the Warriors can still win. What I'm
really fascinated to see in this next game and the
upcoming games is who do they put on Lebron James,
(28:35):
Because they put Andrew Wiggins on Lebron James, arguably their
best defender, and as Raymond Green noted on his podcast,
like they's surprise that Lebron is playing off the ball
and letting other guys play. And I don't think that's
by accident. I think Lebron at thirty eight, with what
(28:58):
they've the minutes he has to play, can't he can't
go get He can't go get you thirty or forty.
And so what I want to see is who they
put on Lebron and if they take because my feeling
is that they can let ad eat. You can't let
Lebron get nineteen, Dennis Schroeder get nineteen, and d Lo
(29:22):
get ninety whatever he got. Those three got nineteen or better.
You take one of those guys away, and it's a
different game. And so and I don't think it's unreasonable
to think that you can take one of those guys away,
because I don't know how many times, how many games
they've had four guys who have had nineteen or better.
(29:46):
And that's where I think the defensive adjustments are going
to go. Offensively, excuse me, I think the Warriors are okay.
It wasn't a great game for them because they didn't
score well in the paint. I think they can fix
that too, But it's defensively. Getting the right matchups, to me,
is going to be the key to the series.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker, That is at Rick Buker.
Check him out on FS one is on the Ball
podcast as he breaks down in an hour and a
half podcast what a Lakers Knicks Finals would actually look like.
Rick is always buddy, appreciated, my friend. We'll talk to
you next week. Enjoy the games.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
Ah, yes, indeed, next yo, Yo.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
You're the best Fireck. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Tell Allan, this is too many people remaking Tom's Diner. Okay,
too many people?
Speaker 3 (30:44):
What's the limit?
Speaker 6 (30:46):
Four?
Speaker 2 (30:46):
This is like the fifty remake of it. And if
all fifty of them made money, and she did two
and on, everybody everybody wins, like, you know, we need
another version of Hallelujah. Let's have another version of halllu.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
No no no, no, no, no no no. Leonard Staple, Leonard
Cohen is great. Jeff Buckley does a definitive version. That's
all we need.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Incorrect, that's all you need it slow it down to
Leonard Cohen. I actually read a book on the the
the movie.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
It's amazing and how popular it is about all the
different artists recording the song is awesome.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
You read a book. I read all the time. I
read all the time.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
I probably read I don't know, fifty books a year,
probably fifteen novels a year, probably like picture books average
one a week, some of them at pictures. And I'm sure, yeah,
it's not safe Harvard just yet. Curious George talks about sports.
Where do you think I learned how to.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
The talk show host?
Speaker 7 (31:36):
George?
Speaker 3 (31:37):
I read it for the articles. Mom.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Hey, the interviews were always great, very in depth.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Hey, George, what do you think Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
Jason over under twenty pages in these books?
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Oh? Under?
Speaker 6 (31:53):
Under?
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Yeah yeah, come on.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
If there's more than fifteen pages, I'm done. Yeah, I'm
done at fifty now with the number.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Of involving curious George, couldn't they do a citywide orphans
and ban him? He caused a lot of damage. What
the hell did the man in the yellow hat dude
that he had so much disposal income, because you know
he had to pay.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
For all those so sure, sure he was on the run,
for sure. I mean he was uninsurable, but he didn't
spend a lot on clothes. He wore the yellow outfit
all the time, dry cleaning to keep that.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
It's George, all right.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Two MLB World Series favorites going in absolutely opposite directions.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
You know, if only George George still around.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
The Dodgers and the Yankees, they both win today. The
Dodgers went to walk off Grand Slam by Max Munsey,
Yankees winning tendings over the Guardians. Dodgers back in first
place game and a half, they've won six in a row.
Yankee still in last place. I am buying the Dodgers there.
It just took a monthish of them to get used
(33:00):
to what the new normal is gonna be, at least
till the trade deadline. They didn't go after a lot
of high priced guys in the offseason. They're waiting maybe
for Otani. They're waiting for the deadline. They did it
last year. They got knocked out of the playoffs early.
It was gonna take a little bit of time. Dodgers
seem to have found their stride. Yankees not so much.
You get old overnight, which is my big worry for
the Mets. You don't get old over. You get old fast.
(33:23):
And there's two ways to get old. You get old
and you can't produce, or you get old and you
can't stay on the field. And that's what's happening to
the Yankees. They have so much talent that's hurt now.
Guys who are older up over thirty that are on
the injured list, whether it's Judge or Stanton or Rodin
or severaena. All these guys and they're having a difficult time.
It is a loaded Al East.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
I know.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Brian Cashman said today, don't count us out. It's a
championship ball club. You had a lot of good teams there, man,
And the pressures just ratcheting up on Aaron Boone. How
long will it go until he's not the solution anymore? Yeah, No,
I'm believing on the Dodgers. I'm not believe it on
the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
I mean, we talked about the Yankees a lot coming
into the season, about the expectations of what this division
would be picked. The Blue Jays expected great things from
the young and up and coming Orioles, and you got
the Eggies. Now they're a five hundred team. But what's
that getting you? Thankstack that that ain't even getting into
the wildcard at this point because you're chasing in your division. Division,
(34:22):
you chosing everybody in the division and the injuries, and
you always look at where can you find answers. Obviously
both can go to the the money vaults and find
themselves some additional help. The Dodgers always have the there's
someone in the farm system ready to come up. Yankees
were banking that the young, the kid Jason Dominguez would
(34:43):
be moving up. Guess what is it? Like a buck
forty in double A like that help ain't coming, that
bat ain't ready and it's not going to.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, maybe not so much, but he's not jeter yet.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
But it was an exciting moving like it was a misdirection,
like we got issues over here. And if they can't
stay hell healthy early, sure as ll ain't staying healthy late.
So you got a problem in cash man. They don't
spend money like they used to. So for the Dodgers,
a nice big run ahead of a weekend series against
the hated Padres with Fernando Tatis Junior back in full
(35:15):
of fact and Fernando Vealenzuela shit do but you know
Hershiser will be there to curse you. Yeah, oh, I'm
sure he will believe it in the Dodgers not believing
in the There's another remix for you, Jane.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Coming up next, we get back into one of the
biggest NBA stories of the day, why things look even
better for the Lakers going into Game two.
